'We apologise for any inconvenience caused to the local community due to the temporary closure of these stores, and look forward to serving hot and fresh pizza again very soon.'  It is not clear when the stores will likely reopen.  The sudden closure has left the stores' predominantly young staff out of work just days before school holidays start. Fortunately for Domino's fans, six stores remain open in Kirwan, West End, Hermit Park, North Ward, Aitkenvale and Fairfield Central.  Domino's in August announced its first month of the 2025 financial year had seen a 1.3 per cent drop in sales. In November, chief executive and managing director Don Meij announced he would be retiring after two decades in the role. Succeeding Mr Meij is Mark van Dyck, the former Asia-Pacific regional managing director of food service multinational Compass Group.  Domino's chairman Jack Cowin thanked the outgoing CEO, who will spend the next year working with the board and Mr van Dyck. 'Under his leadership (we) grew from a Brisbane-based company to a truly global business,' he said. Mr Meij said the decision was not easy but it was the right time for the company. 'Domino's really has been my life,' he said. 'When I started as a delivery driver in Redcliffe, Queensland, I never imagined I'd become CEO of a truly global company with more than $4billion in sales. 'I leave knowing that the business is well-positioned for an exciting new chapter.' Domino's had 387 stores and $300million in sales when it listed on the ASX in 2005. It now has 3,700 stores and about $4billion in sales. Major terror attack 'was just HOURS away' before it was foiled by the special forces and police:... Australia for home owners looking to take the next step “Sellers in these areas can confidently enter the market knowing that conditions are in their favour,” said Property Credit CEO Giordano Stepancic If you check the box above before you log in you won’t have to log back into the website next time you return even if you close your browser and come back later The researchers looked for suburbs where listings were shrinking selling times were short and asking prices were steadily rising – indicating low supply and high demand “Our report not only identifies the suburbs where sellers have the upper hand but also provides actionable insights into the factors driving these trends,” said Stepancic Here are seven suburbs where vendors are sure to come out on top: “Western Australia and Queensland dominate the list particularly in the Perth and Brisbane metropolitan areas,” said Stepancic With Perth currently in the grip of an investor frenzy many sellers are able to take advantage of elevated demand and a fear of missing out that is gripping east coast investors saw listings drop by 27 over the past month creating extra interest as buyers competed over the remaining homes With a 9 per cent reduction in selling time over the past three months the affordable asking price of $542,000 is a magnet for buyers With a massive 24 per cent reduction in days on market over the past three months the south-west Perth suburb of Hamilton Hill is ideal for vendors after a quick sale the median selling price offers an attractive option for buyers priced out of more expensive areas of Perth many of the suburbs identified as best seller’s markets in Australia had a median price under $750,000 indicating that “affordability is a key factor driving favourable conditions for sellers in these areas” The waterfront suburb of East Perth is an apartment seller’s dream with listings plummeting by 21 over the past month The drop in competition has sparked high demand from buyers with the suburb seeing a 9 per cent reduction in days on market over the last three months the median East Perth apartment is an affordable entry option for buyers wanting a piece of this bustling urban community “South Australia presented several suburbs from the Adelaide metropolitan area […] characterised by competitive market conditions and asking prices that largely fall below the $750,000 threshold,” the report stated At the top of the list for Adelaide seller’s market is Andrews Farm a north Adelaide suburb where both listing numbers and sale times are going steadily down With a median house price of just $534,000 it’s no wonder buyers are keen to purchase a home in Andrews Park Burdell is one of the few regional suburbs to make the list Burdell’s $511,713 median asking price is clearly a drawcard for buyers with sale times shrinking by 11 per cent over the last three months with listings numbers decreasing by 20 over the last month indicating strong conditions for property vendors Moreton Bay is a great market for sellers wanting to achieve strong results located 34 kilometres north-east of the Brisbane CBD has large numbers of buyers looking to snap up an apartment for the median asking price of $515,100 With days on market declining by 12 per cent over the last three months those who take their unit to market will have fewer competitors to contend with With median house prices in Sydney increasing sharply in recent years many buyers are flocking to the outer suburbs to secure a home for comparatively better value with a typical asking price of just $845,000 Days on market in Blackheath have declined by 12 per cent over recent months Copyright © 2007-2025 Smart Property Investment Heran Building Group has introduced their luxury iconic or tall as southern Marin's Mount Tamalpais, Novato's Mount Burdell offers its own kind of charm and appeal for families looking for an easy outdoor outing Mount Burdell Open Space preserve boasts plenty of wide fire roads and trails that are perfect for a hike with kids of all ages visitors will be treated to a spectacular spring wildflower display Those after more challenging treks can head uphill and look for the seasonal Hidden Lake, hike to the top of the 1,558-foot peak for amazing views of the San Francisco Bay Area, and even drop down into neighboring Olompali State Historic Park Mount Burdell is popular with mountain bikers and equestrians and seasonal streams burble and splash their way down the hillside as well as a variety of colorful butterflies Spring is really a magical time of year here One of the great things about Mount Burdell are the many different options you have for a hike here You can stick to the relatively flat San Marin and Big Tank Fire Roads and Michako Trail all of which cross the sweeping grasslands that cover the lower slopes of the mountain or challenge yourself with a hike further up the mountain on the San Andreas Fire Road where you can continue on to Hidden Lake or ascend to the summit Another favorite hike here is the Dwarf Oak Trail which offers some lovely scenery and great views of the North Bay You can start this hike on the trailhead on Novato Boulevard where it intersects with San Andreas Fire Road you'll pass through open grasslands and lush forests but it's a relatively gentle climb and so rewarding The fire roads and intersecting trails make for a good assortment of loop hikes that are suitable for a family with smaller kids who aren't going to be up for climbing up onto the mountain Keep in mind that the Marin County Open Space District (MCOSD) allows off-leash dogs under voice control on fire roads There's also a chance that you'll encounter a herd of dairy cows while on the trail at Mount Burdell but they can be big and intimidating to children Our kids of course always want to run up and say hello to the cows the moment they see them Make sure you firmly close all the cattle gates that you encounter lest you inadvertantly cause a bovine breakout The trails on Mount Burdell wind through grasslands and oak and bay forests Since chance are you won't be in the shade all the time sun protection in the form of sunscreen and hats is a must Make sure everyone has masks or other face coverings for when you can't keep a six-foot distance between other groups on the trail No water or restroom facilities are available. Keep in mind that rattlesnakes and mountain lions are spotted in the area from time to time, so don't let kids run ahead on the trail ahead of the grownups in the group. Also, make sure you check everyone for ticks after your hike especially if anyone's been walking off the trail in the tall grass There are numerous trailheads in northern Novato that lead onto the Mount Burdell preserve but the most popular and easily accessible one is near the end of San Andreas Drive take Highway 101 to the San Marin/Atherton Avenue exit; go left onto San Marin Drive and follow it to San Andreas Drive right before the San Marin Plaza shopping center Turn right on San Andreas and follow it up the hill—you'll probably see cars parked on the side of the road near the clearly marked trailhead They're a great way to introduce the little ones to the great outdoors and learn more about the plants and wildlife that make the preserve their home SponsorsPromote your business here Please upgrade your browser to improve your experience Non-members can add the privileges at checkout through our 30 day free trial By continuing I accept the Terms & Condition and Privacy Policy. Stockland’s North Shore estate in Burdell recently released its largest lots to date The Larmona land release features nine lots and is part of the development’s Horizon precinct — and their size has already captured the attention of buyers North Shore project director Andrew Astorquia said one lot sold within days of the official land release and the sales team had been inundated with inquiries The lots range from 707sq m to 1059sq m in size “These are the largest new home sites ever released within North Shore and have been created in response to market demand,” Mr Astorquia said “Larmona is aimed at those who don’t want to sacrifice size for location Most lots on the market at this size are in outer suburbs that are traditionally rural residential areas which The larger lots are close to lifestyle amenities which Mr Astorquia said also attracted buyers “This release is set among a masterplanned community within walking distance of the North Shore shopping centre kilometres of walking tracks and parklands “Though the traditional lot is still very popular we have definitely found that a market exists for well-positioned larger lots where people have the option of purchasing land with room to create their dream backyards “There is plenty of space to park a boat or caravan plus add a pool and entertainment area if they so wish.” Lot prices in this release start at $180,000 and range up to $225,000 for the largest lot of 1059sq m within North Shore is for lease for $520 per week in the Townsville region The Townsville rental market remains tight as new data reveals dangerously low vacancy rates across Queensland with only one rental market in the state deemed healthy The Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) Residential Vacancy Report for the March 2024 quarter said vacancy rates were as low as 0 per cent in Queensland with rental availability remaining dangerously low across much of the state the vacancy rate was sitting at 1 per cent in the first quarter of 2024 This was unchanged from the December 2023 quarter but up from the September and June quarters when the vacancy rate dipped to 0.8 and 0.9 per cent respectively The vacancy rate was at its lowest in the June and September quarters of 2022 and had not risen above 1 per cent since June 2020 when it dropped to 1.7 per cent from 2.9 per cent in the previous quarter is one of just eight Charters Towers properties listed for rent on realestate.com.au Picture: realestate.com.au The overall state vacancy rate was at 0.9 per cent in March the percentage of rental properties available to lease was sitting at just 0.1 per cent While in Goondiwindi the vacancy rate was 0 per cent At the opposite end of the spectrum was Mount Isa (3.4%) which was the only area to land within the 2.6-3.5 per cent range considered “healthy” by REIQ Of the 50 local government areas and sub regions covered in the report more than half were in extremely tight territory with movement confined to a modest 0.2 per cent in most cases REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella said Queensland’s rental market was not in a healthy state and faced a long road to recovery “Another quarter and it’s sadly the same old story of seriously scant rental availability right across Queensland,” she said “Property Managers are still overwhelmed by the volumes of applications and the inability to give every applicant a property no matter how perfect a tenant they would make.” McGrath Estate Agents Townsville principal Kaye Matheson said Townsville was experiencing one of the tightest rental markets she had seen in 30 years of working in real estate “In the last month we had 671 enquiries on 10 properties … and 23.2 per cent of enquiries were from outside of Townsville,” she said “So tenants are competing with people trying to move to town is for lease for $680 per week in the Townsville region Ms Matheson said the rental market would likely only get tougher for tenants “We have all these troops coming to Townsville and nowhere really for them to go,” she said people who used to be able to afford a four-bedroom home may now only be able to afford a three-bedroom home.” Ms Matheson said low-income earners and first-time tenants were the worst hit while a lack of new housing being built was negatively impacting the rental pool “The most important thing for tenants at the moment is to have a record as clean as can be,” she said “For the next three properties their rental history will follow them so they need to make sure they’re not in arrears they clean their property at the end of their lease and get their bond back “They also need to inspect the property and get their applications in as soon as they can.” Principal of McGrath Estate Agents – Townsville Ms Mercorella called on the Government to “step up” in the form of social housing and rental assistance to keep the most vulnerable people in communities housed the longer-term solutions including a concerted effort towards improving productivity and affordability of the construction of new dwellings are essential to fixing this supply issue,” she said “While we agree that build-to-rent initiatives could also be an important piece of the puzzle to boosting supply and the rental market will still heavily rely on everyday citizen investors choosing to rent out their properties “Our view is the incentives given to institutional investors should be extended to private investors acknowledging the crucial role they play in housing Queenslanders and encouraging them to continue to do so.” Police were forced to chops and fried chicken deeper understanding of the cooking tradition which chef Geoff Davis believes deserves more respect as one of the first true American cuisines Burdell is Davis’ platform to expand diners’ conception of the cuisine while showcasing its constant evolution The restaurant opened this summer in Oakland’s Temescal neighborhood Burdell absorbs you into its sepia-toned world with a gallery of family photos lime-green bar and vintage 1970s sound system that imparts a crackly age to new and old songs Top: Pork neck with peaches is one of the outstanding mains at Burdell in Oakland Above: The gallery wall of family pictures is a charming touch at the restaurant yet every service carries the gravity of a big family supper and the ritual of gathering turns to cherished memories a tradition marked by its triumph of adaptability and survival in response to the constant uprooting of Black Americans Nostalgia, naturally, is a driving presence at Burdell, only it isn’t tied to specific dishes but rather to seasons and agriculture.  Peanuts are boiled in miso until soft at Burdell in Oakland. The chef’s grandfather ran a small farm New Jersey. That informed his family’s vegetable-centric soul food recipes — a reality that bucks against the flattened idea that soul food is a limited scope of sweet and fried dishes. At Burdell, modernizing the cuisine also means recognizing its past agricultural roots — disrupted by the Great Migration and redlining. Marinated, smoky Jimmy Nardello peppers ($10) showered with cheddar curls took full advantage of the summer harvest. A ranch-dressed iceberg lettuce salad with juicy in-season tomatoes ($16) had the earnestness of one you’d get at a salad bar — served on an ornate crystal plate. The summer succotash ($13), a side of crunchy squash with pops of sweet corn, carried the sunny warmth as the season entered its slumber. Comfort is delivered in many ways. Sometimes it manifests as simplicity with key tweaks, like a charming take on ham and melon ($19), where sheets of Lady Edison country ham were draped over bite-size blocks of ripe honeydew, cantaloupe and tiny cubes of tart pickled watermelon rind.  Country ham draped over melon at Burdell in Oakland. Other times, like with the chicken and waffle ($17), dishes are a genius deconstruction. In place of fried poultry, the chicken came in the form of pinkish liver mousse embellished with crunchy skin, dressed in a tart, sweet maple vinaigrette. It comes with an airy half waffle, textured with milled corn kernels and crunchy like a carnival corn dog. This dish marries technique with imagination but never loses sight of why chicken and waffles inspires constant fascination.  Davis and his team are making avant-garde food but what’s most striking is the way dishes are stripped of intricate presentation in favor of a homestyle approach. Mains are the anchor of the dinner table and the restaurant treats them with the utmost reverence. The pork neck ($38) was a cunning reinterpretation of a soul food favorite: neck bones, a favorite of Davis’ grandfather. He roasts a marbled cut of pork neck until tender and juicy, and serves it with a mustard jus and peaches. Similarly, a blackened cod ($38), plated over luscious creamed grits and a halo of tangy tomato and seaweed broth, was stupendous.  The chicken and waffle at Burdell looks simple but tastes spectacular. Sides are crucial in the same way a Korean meal is incomplete without banchan. Don’t miss the aged Charleston gold rice enriched with butter ($11) and collard greens ($13). The latter follows tradition with the inclusion of ham hocks, but extra vinegar, ginger and an austere dusting of Ethiopian berbere spice reveal deeper intentions: Davis is making connections to other Black diaspora dishes, threading foodways on the plate.  Some items are still coming together. While the scone-like biscuits ($10) worked well to mop up sauces, they were ultimately on the drier side. I liked the barbecued shrimp ($26) with a Worcestershire-bolstered brown butter sauce, but it was a few granules too salty. it consisted of hits from the a la carte menu — peanuts boiled in miso until soft; condensed versions of the aforementioned marinated peppers and ham-draped melons — leading to an explosive finale of peppery The dredge was crisp and the succulent meat had an almost cheesy gaminess — encouraged by a gravy made from bunny innards You could use a knife and fork to avoid the saucy fingers but eating it with your hands is a distinct pleasure of its own Burdell’s relaxed atmosphere has a way of disarming its guests and encouraging the latter works in the kitchen at his first restaurant The seed for Burdell lived in Davis’ mind for nearly a decade but he’s long known that an inviting warmth would be central welcoming all souls with the affectionate tenderness reserved for family Davis will open a takeout window with more straightforward dishes like oxtails over rice The food is matched by an enchanting drinks program of low-ABV cocktails a mix of new and mostly established producers — and vintage Barolo bottles if feeling particularly baller Burdell perfectly embodies Oakland’s dining scene: self-assured cooking that’s distinctive and poignant It feels like Davis has stepped into his grandparents’ proverbial kitchen armed with the technical skills earned in his career ready to show them his vision of soul food Flowers sit on the lime green bar at Burdell 4640 Telegraph Ave., Oakland. burdelloakland.com Transportation: Near MacArthur BART Station Best practices: For a comprehensive experience Or order a few small plates like chicken and waffle and the pork neck as a main This story was updated to reflect Geoff Davis’ relationship to his grandfather’s farm Reach Cesar Hernandez: cesar.hernandez@sfchronicle.com; Twitter: @cesarischafa Despite not winning any hardware at the James Beard Awards on June 10 two Bay Area restaurants were just named among the best new restaurants in America In an annual list by Robb Report Oakland’s Burdell and San Francisco’s 7 Adams made the list of the 10 best new restaurants in the country Burdell a soul food restaurant from chef Geoff Davis Davis’ first brick-and-mortar restaurant opened to immediate and wide acclaim in Sept His vision of nostalgic soul food plays out in an array of dishes like boiled peanuts with peanut miso and house spices “bbq” whole shrimp in a tomato gravy spiked with Worcestershire sauce as well as a pickle-brined fried chicken sandwich that can only be ordered while eating at the bar paying homage to his own family’s tradition of enjoying wine with soul food at gatherings A customer enters during a soft opening at Burdell in Oakland “Bay Area didn't get much love last night.” Davis was a finalist for Best Chef: California at the James Beard Awards ceremony in Chicago on Monday night but did not win That honor went to Los Angeles chef and restaurateur Lord Maynard of Filipino restaurant Kuya Lord The five-course menu changes regularly based on seasonal ingredients but diners can expect items like seared black cod with confit sunchoke along with pork collar plated with cheddar grits The exterior of 7 Adams restaurant in San Francisco which serves French cuisine with Japanese influences SFGATE reached out to 7 Adams but did not hear back in time for publication Get SFGATE's top stories sent to your inbox by signing up for The Daily newsletter here. If you’ve been dying to check out Burdell, chef Geoff Davis’s much-anticipated and ambitious Oakland restaurant that currently operates as a pop-up then here’s some good news: Davis is heading back to his old stomping grounds in the city for a night of live jazz On Monday, August 15, True Laurel will celebrate Monday Rumday, an event the bar first held outdoors two years ago during the pandemic but now brings back for a second run. Mount Gay Rum is co-hosting and the bar will bust out its manual sugar cane press to squeeze fresh sugar cane juice for use in those rum-filled daiquiris Attendees can taste the fresh cane juice squeezed from California-grown sugar cane or go for something boozier including Mai o Mais True Laurel’s milk-washed mai tai riff capped with a coffee-rum float “I think that Burdell is something that hopefully will change a lot of people’s minds about what is Black food what is possible with Black food,” Davis said in July The pop-up will start at 4 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m. — but it’s first come first served, so get there early if you want to make sure to get in on the food and drink. Some proceeds from the event will go toward the Two Eighty Project which works to increase equity and diversity within the wine industry Two young debutants shone as the Bulldogs took down the Northern Beaches The new restaurant draws on chef Geoff Davis’s family history to show diners another side of soul food If you buy something from an Eater link, Vox Media may earn a commission.
