Doctors have reported concerns about executive interference in clinical decision making at Caboolture Hospital
Clinicians believe the actions are putting patients at risk and causing undue distress amongst hospital staff
AMA Queensland urges Queensland Health to ensure there is no executive interference in clinical decision making at any hospital and health service to protect patients and staff wellbeing
We also support our members’ views that new beds must not be opened until there are sufficient medical and nursing staff to service them safely and sustainably

Local Government and Planning and Minister for Public WorksThe Honourable Meaghan Scanlon
The Miles Government’s social housing Big Build is well underway with 24 new social homes under construction in Caboolture
Queensland-based Murphy Builders are delivering the project
which follows the recent completion of a 10-home complex and 20-home complex in Caboolture
The homes are being built with accessibility in mind
with three apartments being built to Platinum
nine to Gold and 12 to Silver standard under the state’s Livable Housing Guidelines
suitable for people with a disability and seniors with mobility needs
The one-bedroom units will also allow people to downsize from their current home
Among 53,500 social homes to be delivered as part of the Miles Government’s Homes for Queenslanders plan
the complex is expected to be completed mid-next year
weather and construction conditions permitting
Quotes attributable to Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon:
“Our Homes for Queenslanders plan is getting more shovels in the ground and tradies on the tools to build the homes Queenslanders need
“That’s in stark contrast to the LNP
who are right now blocking 8,000 Queenslanders from buying their own home by getting in the way of the Help to Buy shared equity scheme.”
Quotes attributable to Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan:
“Meeting with the local housing team
and hearing the stories of people our social homes are helping reinforces why we’re delivering the Homes for Queenslanders plan
“One-bedroom units such as the ones we’re building here also provide an opportunity for seniors to downsize their home
freeing up larger social homes for families in need.”
Quotes attributable to Murphy Builders Qld Pty Ltd Director Mark Berry:
“Murphy Builders are proud to be working with the Queensland Government on this worthwhile project
“The demand for housing throughout Queensland is well documented and my organisation is thrilled to be associated to and building a solution for this issue.”

Solicitor claims Kaine Thomson-Gleeson was acting in self-defence when 23-year-old was fatally shot
A solicitor for one of two brothers accused of shooting dead a woman after chasing her down a residential street has claimed his client acted in response to an armed threat
Codye Ian Thomson, 29, of Marsden and Kaine Raymond Thomson-Gleeson, 32, of Caboolture
on Tuesday had their one charge each of murder mentioned for the first time in Brisbane magistrates court
The pair were arrested without incident in Logan
Warrants were issued for the brothers’ arrest after Chloe Jade Mason
was found unconscious on a Caboolture street

outside court on Tuesday claimed his client had acted in response to an armed threat from Mason
“What is not in dispute in this case is that Chloe Mason came to the front of Kaine’s house armed with a rifle,” Mackenzie said
“Kaine explained to police he did not kill Chloe
he did to defend his home and his family against a murderous attempt.”

Mackenzie disputed the police’s statement about his client’s arrest and claimed Thomson-Gleeson was metres from a police station and about to hand himself in.
Neither Thomson, whose job was listed in court documents as a meat worker, nor Thomson-Gleeson, a plasterer, were required to appear in court in person or via video link on Tuesday.
Thomson’s solicitor, Brendan Beavon, asked for the matter to be heard next on 13 January at Caboolture magistrates court so that a full brief of evidence could be ordered.
The police prosecutor Jordan Theed said the timeframe “might be a bit tight” but he did not oppose the application as it would just lead to police being ordered to disclose their evidence at a later date.
The magistrate Lewis Shillito granted Thomson’s application.
Mackenzie asked for the same application to be granted for Thomson-Gleeson when his client’s charge was mentioned.

“Your honour has no power to consider an application for bail,” Mackenzie said.

Police had been searching northern New South Wales for the pair since the incident on 22 December
Authorities alleged Mason knew the two men and had attended a Caboolture address where an altercation occurred
They also alleged the pair fled to northern NSW in a white Holden Commodore station wagon after being interviewed as witnesses on 22 December
The brothers remained in custody, as defendants charged with murder in Queensland can only apply for bail in the supreme court.

The Queensland Government has announced funding of $71 million
will be committed for the Caboolture River Road upgrade
Over the next 40 years Waraba will provide around 30,000 new homes for approximately 70,000 people
The future community will have access to around 17,000 jobs associated with employment
The upgrade to Caboolture River Road will provide access and support the initial stages of development within the Waraba PDA and cater to growing and future traffic demands in the growth area
The Caboolture River Road upgrade will transform the stretch between Grant Road and Morayfield Road into a four-lane carriageway with two traffic lanes in each direction and new cycling and pedestrian paths on both sides of the road
depending on weather conditions and other factors
The Queensland Government funding is from its $100 million contribution to the South East Queensland (SEQ) City Deal Growth Areas Compact (GAC) to help support new residents moving to Waraba and existing local communities following detailed infrastructure master planning and prioritisation by the City of Moreton Bay
In August the Queensland Government announced $13 million in GAC funding as part of the $38.5 million funding for wastewater infrastructure as Stage 1 of the GAC to unlock more than 2,500 new houses in Lilywood
Queensland Minister for State Development and Infrastructure
will provide around 30,000 homes for an estimated 70,000 people and support an estimated 17,000 jobs
“We’re investing in the infrastructure the community needs and this includes $71 million to widen the Caboolture River Road to four lanes
traffic flow and provide new pedestrian and cycling paths
“It will also support existing residents in Morayfield and Caboolture helping to ease congestion and improve road safety
we’ve earmarked $100 million from the SEQ City Deal Growth Area Compact to help develop Waraba
“We’ll continue to work with City of Moreton Bay on delivering the infrastructure Waraba needs for the future.”
“City of Moreton Bay is experiencing a rapid increase in population
with Waraba just one of our many growth areas
“We have been calling for critical infrastructure investment and planning to enable more connectivity and housing in our City
so this funding is very welcome and highlights why the City Deal is just so important
“We will continue to work closely with the Queensland Government on detailed planning for the remaining $16 million allocated to City of Moreton Bay in GAC funding
including our own commitment of $10 million
We are working with the Federal Government to try and convert their loan as part of the GAC funding to fast track delivery of Buchanan Road
to be delivered by the City of Moreton Bay
highlights how vital SEQ City Deal funding is for our local communities.”
