Fire crews pulled the 38-year-old woman out of the bedroom where the fire started, but she died at the scene. (ABC News: Anne Barker)
Link copiedShareShare articleA 38-year-old woman has died and her husband and son have been injured after a house fire in Sydney's south-west.
Neighbours called triple-0 and alerted emergency services to a house fire on Sulman Road at Cabramatta West just before 7:30am.
Firefighters doused the flames that damaged the single-storey home and neighbouring houses were evacuated as a precaution.
Superintendent Josh Turner from Fire and Rescue NSW said the woman was trying to escape through her bedroom door when they found her.
"Fire crews made entry through the front door and have pulled a lady from her bedroom and have conducted CPR on the front lawn before handing her over to police," he said.
"There was quite a bit of force needed to make access to the bedroom, she was actually behind the door," he said.
Superintendent Turner said the woman died at the scene.
The working smoke alarm alerted the two gentleman and was what gave them an indicator that there was a fire and allowed them to get out.
The woman's family, a man in his 40s and a boy about 15 or 16 years old were able to escape the fire and were treated by paramedics for minor injuries and smoke inhalation.
Superintendent Turner said the working smoke alarm in the house saved the lives of the woman's husband and son.
"The working smoke alarm alerted the two gentleman and was what gave them an indicator that there was a fire and allowed them to get out," he said.
"And if it wasn't for that working smoke alarm things here could've been much worse."
A resident on the street who did not want to be identified said she witnessed other neighbours trying to help free the woman who was killed.
Firefighters doused the flames that damaged the home, and neighbouring houses were evacuated as a precaution. (ABC News)
"Neighbours were trying to smash the windows in, [but] by the time the firies got here and got her out, she was deceased," the resident said.
Fifteen firefighters and three trucks worked to extinguish the blaze, which started in the woman's bedroom.
"It was very quick to be able to extinguish because the fire was contained to the bedroom and the area of origin and there was little spread throughout the house," Superintendent Turner said.
"But unfortunately the large amount of smoke is seemed to caused most of the damage here."
Police said after early investigations, the fire did not appear to be suspicious.
Superintendent Turner said heating in the house will be examined as a possible factor in the cause of the fire.
"Heating is always a possibility through winter. Heating systems that aren't checked properly, carbon monoxide and overloaded electrical [equipment] can always be a concern for us," he said.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
