(Audience submitted: Allan Maddison) Link copiedShareShare articleThe manager of a north Queensland shopping centre, which was partly destroyed by fire, says most of the demolition work will finish this week. Earlier this month, a large blaze tore through the western side of the Cannonvale complex, destroying nine businesses, including an art gallery and several banks. Whitsunday Shopping Centre manager Theresa Manning said crews hoped the demolition site would be reduced to the immediate fire zone by Friday. "The way they're tracking, it's so quick, I'm just amazed with how well they've been progressing, how quickly," she said. Ms Manning said locals had rallied around the tenants and employees of the fire-hit businesses. "Just [the] support in the community has been overwhelming," she said. "What I've heard, it's just the Facebook interaction and support of the tenants has been amazing, just constant, keep up the good work, keep your spirits high. "All this type of support is just really good to see and hear." The fire burning at the Whitsunday Shopping Centre at Cannonvale, in north Queensland, earlier this month.
