Aaron Violi retained the seat of Casey against Labor’s Naomi Oakley amid a Liberal fallout this election.
He said he was honoured that the community has re-endorsed him for the next three years.
“I’m very pleased locally that it looks like I’ve been able to increase my margin, it’s something I’ll never take for granted,” Mr Violi said.
The ABC’s initial election results forecasted Mr Violi to hold the electorate, but a midnight scare saw Ms Oakley briefly in front of the Liberal incumbent by a fine margin.
But Mr Violi said he was confident he’d pull through in the end.
“I was never nervous. I understood the mechanics of, you know, Boronia being a tough pre-poll for me. If it had been flipped and the Lilydale pre-poll had been added before Boronia, it would have changed that margin. But I know my booth in areas well enough to understand what was happening.
“So I was confident once the Lilydale pre-poll was added to the count, it would show the true reflection of the result.”
When asked about what went wrong nationally for the Liberal party, Mr Violi said it was too soon for him to tell.
“48 hours after the result, I’m not going to be making an analysis of what went right and what went wrong publicly.”
“There’s lots of lessons that we need to learn and diligently work through, understanding what happened here in Casey. Some areas moved away from me, some came to me strongly, so I want to understand that unique dynamic locally.”
Despite that, he said it was obvious the Liberal party needed to change to ensure it can face Labor in three years.
“Clearly we need to change when you get a result like this, as a party to make sure we can be a strong opposition and a strong government again.”
Mr Violi said there was a number of reasons why he maintained the seat of Casey and that he’d focus on continuing to be a strong voice for the community for the next term of government.
“The constant feedback I got from community members was that they appreciated that I was a genuine third generation local who’s engaged with the community.”
“I will continue to be out there and be a strong, authentic local voice, making sure Casey’s voice is heard. But I do know that for Casey to be strong, the nation has to be strong, and I passionately believe that we need a strong opposition and a strong Liberal government into the future.”
He also thanked the other candidates who ran for the seat of Casey and the members of the community who didn’t vote for him.
“I wanna acknowledge all the other candidates and also acknowledge that while I was lucky enough to get the majority support of the community, there was many that didn’t support me and that’s okay.”
“My role three years ago when I was elected was to represent every community member in Casey, not just those that supported me and I’ll continue to do that.”

I live in Maryborough with my wife and three kids
I’ve worn a few different hats: I’ve worked as a painter
and worked as a research analyst in Sydney
I hold a PhD in Applied Economics and Finance
Why do you think you would be a good candidate to represent the seat of Wide Bay
Because I’m independent – and that means I don’t take orders from a party machine
I’m not here to win points in Canberra; I’m here to represent our region with honesty and principle
Wide Bay is often overlooked because it’s considered politically safe
and I’ll work hard for every part of this electorate – including Noosa
which adds so much to the cultural and environmental fabric of our region
what would you do to address the following issues
my wife had a health emergency – and the care she received wasn’t what it should have been
I’ve heard too many heartbreaking stories: missed diagnoses
Things that should never happen in a country like ours
Wide Bay has one of the oldest and fastest-growing populations in the country
yet we still don’t have a single Medicare Urgent Care Clinic
people can’t find a home they can afford – whether they’re starting out or downsizing
That means training the next generation of tradespeople – something we’ve neglected for decades
Nearly half of apprentices don’t complete their training
I support a well-managed system that welcomes skilled migrants – especially in healthcare and trades – while maintaining strong
like the battery tech being developed in Wide Bay
scalable solutions – not billion-dollar energy projects like nuclear that may be obsolete before they’re finished
I back the My Safety Counts campaign – because road funding should be based on real crash data
I believe in evidence-based funding that puts safety first and prioritises the worst roads
our sound has always been a bit of a melting pot – full of different genres and sounds that might seem unconnected
It’s Rob from Casey Club here and I’m going to take you through 10 tracks that built the Casey Club sound – from genre-defining classics to brand new dubs that always get a wheel at every show
there was a small house party and someone playing on a tiny set of decks to about 8 people
They were playing a genre I’d never heard before
and the track was In the Dance by Flava D
I remember being so amazed at the track and asked the DJ loads of questions about how DJing works and what buttons did what
That was the start of me getting properly into music
Having had Flava D support us both privately and in public means an immeasurable amount to both of us on a personal level
this track defines what a good bass track from the 2016ish is
My Nu Leng were the first ever proper rave I went to at The Hub (RIP!) in Plymouth
I remember being absolutely blown off my feet during their set and instantly knowing this is something I wanted to do forever
I’ve had a signed copy of this record on my wall which I sort of have as a reminder of the experiences and quality of music I set out to make right at the start of my journey
I’ve always loved D&B and anyone who listens to D&B regularly will be able to pick out loads of influences in the music we put out now
Bonesaw for me was particularly special as it was kind of the first time the bridge between jump up and minimal was being crossed where people were properly paying attention
It’s been really cool hearing a lot of the yoi-type sound design get repopularised in the UK over the last few years in D&B
It’s definitely helped me find a sonic middle ground between the UK and North America
(Also shout out to Scruz and Kippo for the crazy remix of this – still gets a spin nearly every set!)
I can still so clearly remember Alix Perez uploading a teaser video filmed on his phone of his compressor VU meters and everyone sharing it on facebook
back when that was the undisputed way of doing promo
It’s definitely the sort of track where you don’t want to be skipping the drop
I think it’s hard to talk about UK dubstep without talking about Deep Medi in some capacity
When dubstep got yoi-ified (technically accurate term)
these guys stuck to their guns and went further the other way
This track specifically for me just defines that era of dubstep so well
it paints such a specific picture in my head of what dubstep from the UK really sounds like
The last D&B track I’m going to mention on this list
Para is a producer I’ve been a fan of for a relatively short amount of time but you can really tell he knows his stuff
This track makes such an impact when it drops
it’ll knock your head off if you’re not paying attention
I’m lucky enough to know him now as we both live in the same city
If you can get the chance to see him play I couldn’t recommend it enough
Cesco – Flump (Pineapple Records – 2025)
It’s really hard to pick which tracks of Cesco’s are the best
Swing King and Move Too Slow all deserve an honourable mention in my book
has his roots in DnB but has turned his attention to UKG and 140 with incredible style
I think there’s a good argument that he has the nicest drums in this era of electronic music
I’ve heard lots of people try to copy them but no one has managed (yet)
Hamdi – Counting (Taiki Nulight Remix)
If you’ve been paying close attention to either of our social media you’ll know that me and Taiki work together quite a bit
I was writing another track called ‘Papi Riddim’ which led to us both reminiscing about how much we both love dubstep and so he started writing this at the same time
We’ve both been travelling down the 140bpm rabbit hole together for about a year and a half now and have a few collabs in the tank!
Phrva has been killing it over the last year or so
for me he’s been a standout in the new North American wave of dubstep
Their sound reeks of the UK but you can tell it’s got that North American influence
I’ve been lucky to recently start working with these guys and it’s been really cool hearing their take on the 140 genre
I’m super excited to see what the next 12-24 months have in store for them
It’s hard to talk about dubstep now and not mention Skrillex
it’s much harder when he teams up with Sleepnet and Joker
I think there’s been a lot of the UK that were sort of angry with skrillex for “ruining” dubstep (I’m looking at you r/realdubstep)
but I think it’s fair to say he’s gone full circle and has been instrumental in it’s resurgence
What I love so much about the whole Quest For Fire album
is that you can tell how much Skrillex respects UK electronic music culture

Being active has been a part of Matthew James Young’s daily routine for as long as he can remember, and with that, he thought, why not add a special layer to his activities?
Matthew was recently awarded the City of Casey’s Young Citizen of the Year Award for his dedication to sports and charity, having raised nearly $20,000 for children’s cancer research.
Star News spoke to Matthew, and when asked what led him down the path of giving back, he said it happened during the pandemic lockdowns, and “I wanted something to do”.
“At that point, I just lost my grandfather to cancer, and I wanted to give back to a charity of some sort.
“So, I looked online and I wanted to do something active, and the charity was holding an event in October, and there was a bike riding challenge to raise money for kids with cancer, so I said, yeah, I’ll do that with a friend.”
Matthew rode for the Great Cycle Challenge, an event which he looks forward to, once more, taking part in later this year.
Tracking back to 2024, Matthew, alongside one of his friends, decided that Port Phillip Bay needed to be conquered.
From Melbourne, they cycled to Geelong on the first day, took the ferry and then cycled back up to Melbourne on the second day.
“I had a little backpack of necessities, but I didn’t really train for it, not much,” Matthew said.
“Maybe I went out for a bike or two before, but that was it; but I was like, I’m gonna do this.”
That, however, was simply the start of it.
While the two friends, along the way, got in touch with charities and other families for donations to the charities, Matthew wanted to go bigger.
“I wanted to do something that sounded crazy, something I knew would be a challenge for but also making it worth it,” he said.
“People are going to notice and see that, oh, he’s riding around Cranbourne, that’s good, here’s some money.
“But riding from Melbourne to Adelaide? That’s insane, but that’s why I wanted to do something that people would actually look at.”
His mind was already set, a – give or take – 10-hour drive, nearly 1000 kilometres, and over two days of non-stop cycling.
It was a challenge that Matthew took on, something that took him over six and a half days, but something that was ultimately gratifying.
“It took me around six and a half days, I planned for a week, but I got to the last stop and I just couldn’t,” he said.
“It was a massive (last) day going over the Adelaide Hills, and we got to Adelaide around 10pm.
”My stepdad was with me, he was the support crew in the car, but it was hard – day one was okay since I had some adrenaline, but every single day after that I couldn’t go an hour straight without falling over on the side of the road and having cramps.”
When asked why he wanted to give back, and why he did what he did, all he had to say was, “if we’re doing stuff we enjoy, why can’t we also help other people?”
“I can do something I like, but I can also help someone else, and you do it with the community.
“I do so many different sports and I’ve got so many people I talk to, so it might just motivate one or two people to go out there and maybe raise funds too.”
The most notable memory Matthew held during the trip was the pillow that he duct taped to his bike seat in an attempt to make it more comfortable.
While it did nothing to help, it attracted more than enough looks and gazes from passersby and locals in the towns he went through.
“I couldn’t have done it without the local communities along the way,” he said.
“Each night, I had people who would sponsor me, my mum reached out to local people, businesses; these people would give us a room for the night, some people made dinners for us.
“The community spirit along the way, the way people were looking after us, was really inspiring.”
More recently, during the night of the awards, Matthew was still reeling from the fact that he had been nominated in the first place.
Recalling the thoughts going through his mind, he didn’t “think I was going to win – I saw so many more people out there that do better than me”.
But his name was called, and when he went on stage, everything “was a blur”.
On the continuous progress of the funds raised, Matthew said that for the first two years, it gradually grew from $700 to $2000, but it was in 2024 when it took a leap, when his trip to Adelaide gained traction.
Throughout October last year, before the trip, Matthew “was reaching out, for countless hours tro companies for donations”.
“I would say that I would promote their page, run their raffles, things like that; I also had my niece and nephew help with selling tickets, and it just went up bit by bit,” Matthew said.
Holly, Matthew’s mum, said that she’s never been more proud.
“The achievements, he inspires me, and it’s not just about the bike rides and the charity and the money, it’s the type of person he’s turned into,” she said.
“He’s a great kid all around, and the charity runs that he does on Saturday mornings, all the things where he’s constantly just putting himself out there and getting recognition.”
The journey to Sydney later this year will also take place in October, and under the same charity and endeavour, where this time, he might just put some thought into training a little bit.
“I’m always motivated to go bigger and better, but the award is a big achievement, and I’m very grateful for it,” Matthew said.
Though it was a Labor landslide across the rest of Victoria, Naomi Oakley fell short of clinching the Casey seat from Liberal incumbent Aaron Violi.
A late shift in the polls briefly put the Labor candidate ahead of Mr Violi by a slim margin, but as the count continued it became apparent Mr Violi escaped the damage dealt by Labor on a national level.
Ms Oakley said she was disappointed by the result but would continue her work with the community for the next election in 2028.
“It’s disappointing but now it’s time to reset. Labor values are still really important to me and I’ll continue to advocate with community groups and ensure that the promises that the sitting member has said will be put in place.”
Her priorities would include organising forums on community safety and family violence, helping displaced peoples, aging residents and increasing awareness surrounding police veterans mental health.
“All these things that are really important. I think people still want people to advocate for those things.”
“I’m a bit of a fighter. So I’ll just continue to sort of work with the groups.”
Ms Oakley ran for the seat of Menzies in the 2022 election and despite losing to Liberal member Keith Wolahan, she managed to close the voting margin by seven per cent.
She said she had “chipped away” at the Casey electorate for this election and hoped to capitalise on that next election.
“I know there’s some gaps that we could fill and really it’s about continuing to advocate for community groups and I’m letting them know that we’re still here,” she said.
Greens candidate for Casey Merran Blair said this year’s campaign was the strongest ever for the Greens.
“I am so proud of what our team achieved this election.”
“We brought together a great team of passionate and dedicated volunteers. Over the country, the Greens primary vote was up and this is something we are really proud of. We are a resilient bunch and we will keep working because we believe politics should be about genuinely helping people and having ambition for a better future,” Ms Blair said.
Ms Oakley said she’d also focus on recognising police veterans

The seat of Casey remained on a knife’s edge until late in the night and a late shift has seen the seat still in doubt
The ABC had declared the seat had been retained by incumbent MP Aaron Violi but a 12am update reversed this call in an electorate not even considered a ‘Key Seat’ prior to election day
where 60 of 65 polling places in Casey and 99.99 per cent of have had a two-candidate-preferred vote count undertaken
Labor’s Naomi Oakley currently has her nose ahead 50.19 per cent to Violi’s 49.81 per cent
It’s a remarkable shift with Violi previously leading the TCP count 50.98 per cent to Labor candidate Naomi Oakley’s 49.02 per cent at 11.30pm on Saturday 3 May
The ABC had called the seat for Violi with 50 per cent of the vote counted
when he held 50.6 per cent to Oakley’s 49.4 per cent
expecting him to increase his margin to 1.6 per cent
now Oakley is ahead of Violi by a mere 262 votes (50.2 per cent of the vote) with 57.2
The Greens Merran Blair had 12.2 per cent of the first preference vote and independent Claire Ferres-Miles is not far behind with 12.1 per cent
They are followed by One Nation’s Ambere Livori (5.1 per cent)
Trumper of Patriots Phillip Courtis (3.3 per cent)
Family First’s Dan Nebauer (3.1 per cent) and the Animal Justice Party’s Chloe Bond (2.2 per cent)

The Casey federal election for 2025 is fielding a candidate pool of eight contenders, some returning to the ballot but most are new faces in the race for MP.
Casey’s ballot is also sporting the highest rate of female candidates since 2016, when three of the six (50 per cent) candidates were women.
For 2025, five of the eight candidates are women (62.5 per cent).
Compared to 2022 and 2019, which saw 11 and 10 candidates run respectively, this year is seeing a lesser number of eight join the contest, from all parts of the political spectrum.
Returning faces include incumbent Liberal MP Aaron Violi and Independent Claire Ferres-Miles, while Labor’s Naomi Oakley is no stranger to the election system having run in Menzies in 2022.
Previous elections also provide extensive insight into which suburbs are most likely to vote one way or another.
Typically the Liberal Party fares well in the urban centres, Yarra Valley and Upper Yarra, while Labor holds much of the Hills region but some outliers did occur in 2022.
In the Upper Yarra, while the Liberals pulled the majority of the two party preferred vote in 2022, sitting between 50 and 55 per cent, in Wesburn, Wandin, Woori Yallock, Seville, Yarra Junction, Gladysdale, Launching Place and Hoddles Creek, the outliers of Millgrove (55 per cent) and Warburton (63 per cent) backed Labor candidate Bill Brindle.
In the Valley, while places like Healesville and Badger Creek leaned towards Liberal in first preference votes, after the preferential distribution, seeing the Greens and Independent poll well, the townships swung red.
Much of the Hills region supported Labor barring Macclesfield and Silvan who voted blue.
The Greens and Independent Claire Ferres-Miles garnered the biggest percentages of votes in the Dandenong Ranges, with suburbs like Ferny Creek, Selby, Sassafras and The Patch leading this.
The rest of the Hillside suburbs, like Upwey, Belgrave, Tecoma and Kallista saw Bill Brindle haul the majority of the vote of 25 to 30 per cent.
The urban areas, from Coldstream, Lilydale, Montrose, Mount Evelyn and Chirnside Park, have previously voted strongly for the Liberal Party.
With experts suggesting a minority government may be possible, as voters turn away from the major party system, this election will be a watch and see scenario.

The Casey Demons have kicked off their 2025 VFL season with a gritty draw against North Melbourne at Casey Fields
finishing level at 76 apiece after a hard-fought
Despite dominating large portions of the match
poor conversion in front of goal saw Casey let opportunities slip away early before showing immense heart to claw their way back into the game late in the final term
Casey hit the ground running in the opening quarter
controlling the first 10 minutes and generating several forward entries
Tom Campbell opened the scoring for the red and blue in his first official outing
and Caleb Lewis followed up with a goal of his own after a clean inside-50 delivery from Riley Bonner
allowing North Melbourne to stay within touching distance with two straight goals of their own
The second quarter followed a similar script
with Casey again having control but struggling to convert that dominance into scoreboard pressure
North kicked the first goal of the quarter midway through to narrow the margin to one point
and although Casey generated more inside 50s
the Kangaroos defended well and rebounded with efficiency
North eventually snatched the lead late in the term with a composed set shot
but the Demons hit back immediately through Lewis
who slotted his second after a quick centre clearance
putting the home side back in front by a solitary point at the main break
The third term proved to be a genuine arm-wrestle
with both sides enjoying patches of momentum
North struck first before Casey responded with back-to-back goals from Tom Fullarton and Harvey Langford
The intensity lifted as both teams traded blows
the scoreboard reflected just how close the contest had become—level at 49 points each
while Riley Baldi continued to rack up touches in the midfield and provide plenty of drive
North Melbourne looked to have seized control in the final quarter
bursting out with three unanswered goals to take an 18-point lead
Chance Doultree’s first goal of the afternoon gave the Demons a spark
and Tyler Edwards’ superb snap from the boundary line levelled the scores once again
North responded with a goal to regain the lead
but a composed finish from Tom Fullarton—striking from 45 metres output Casey back in front by a single point with just moments to play
North pressed forward to register a behind and again had another shot on goal
leaving both sides sharing the points in a dramatic finish
While the team will rue the missed chances
there’s no denying the courage and effort shown by the playing group in the dying stages
To fight back from nearly three goals down and finish with a draw shows plenty of resilience—an effort the coaches and fans can be proud of
There’s plenty to take from the game and plenty to improve
but with the Gold Coast Suns coming to Casey Fields next week
the focus now shifts to banking four points in front of the home crowd

Casey has thundered back onto the winners’ list with a 21.17(143) to 3.7(25) walloping of Richmond VFL at Casey Fields on Anzac Day eve
The Dees kicked 20 goals to two after an even first quarter
possession footy wearing the Tigers down as the match progressed
Casey had skipped out to a 31-point lead but the better indicator was the inside 50 count – 32 to nine
Nine goals were slammed home in a last quarter procession
with Melbourne AFL-listed tall forwards Jacob Van Rooyen and Aidan Johnson combining for 19 marks and 8.6
Richmond VFL coach Jake Batchelor conceded to Richmond Media post-game that the Tigers got “close to giving up.”
Backline playing-coach Riley Bonner was a ball magnet
while Riley Baldi led the midfield monopoly with 33 disposals and 11 clearances
It continues a fine start to the season for the Gippsland ball-winner after spending last year focusing on local footy
ruck Tom Campbell finished with 17 disposals
The victory propels the Demons back into the finals-bound top 10 ahead of a bye this weekend
Beaconsfield local Kade De La Rue made his club debut for Frankston in a night fixture on ANZAC Day eve
The youngster crossed to the Dolphins in the off-season after being aligned to North Melbourne VFL last season
Cranbourne local Corey Ellison kicked three goals in the game

Melbourne Storm has welcomed the Labor Party’s election commitment of $10.68m to build a mini rectangular stadium at Casey Fields
Federal Member for Holt Cassandra Fernando
and City of Casey Mayor Stefan Koomen for the announcement
Eboni Heurea and Justice Mercedes Huriwai-Daymond
and representatives from local rugby league club
The proposed Casey Mini Stadium will help address the growing demand for elite rectangular venues in Victoria that can cater for the growth of both rugby league and football
“Casey and the surrounding regions are some of the biggest growth areas for rugby league in the state,” Rodski said
“This new proposed mini stadium will deliver significant benefits to the growing rugby league community in the Casey region and provide Storm with an alternate venue to host elite content in the future
Our junior pathways programs are fast outgrowing the facilities we have at AAMI Park and in Broadmeadows and we see this proposed venue as strategically important for the ongoing development of our game
this will be a high-quality venue that will be used by local community sport and also serve as a training hub for Storm’s male and female pathways into the future
Both rugby league and football need facilities to keep up with the growing demand of both sports
and we believe this sort of facility is needed to give all athletes the best chance to develop and one day pull on the Storm jersey.”
the new Casey Mini Stadium will host Storm junior representative matches for both male and female teams
while also being a possible venue for future NRL trial matches or NRLW matches
Melbourne Storm has a strong connection with the Casey region with almost 25% of its member base and 32% of all registered players living in the region
Storm has a long-standing partnership with the City of Casey with three trial matches played on the Casey Fields oval in recent years along with a number of community initiatives delivered for residents
said at the announcement: “Completion of the Casey Mini Stadium will ensure everyone in our community has a world-class sporting and training facility at their doorstep
The Mini-Stadium will be home to community sporting tournaments and will give the children in our area a leg up for training.”

Residents in uproar over issues including COVID-19 vaccines and the impounding of a family’s collection of hot rods and jet-skis under local laws have forced a wild council meeting in Melbourne’s south-east to be abandoned
Sections of the crowd also booed loudly during the mayor’s Acknowledgement of Country and his reference to LGBTQ people
prompting one councillor to lament “racist” elements within the gallery
A packed council meeting in Casey was abandoned on Tuesday night
the City of Casey attempted to hold its first fully public council meeting since emerging from administration in November
only for councillors to adjourn the meeting about 90 minutes later and exit the town hall under police guard
New mayor Stefan Koomen began the meeting by celebrating the full public gallery as a sign of a return to local democracy in Casey – Melbourne’s largest local government area – after the last council was sacked in 2020 following a corruption investigation by IBAC
Koomen noted that it was the first meeting the democratically elected council had held outside of business hours
which was intended to give more ratepayers a chance to attend
the mood turned sour as sections of the audience loudly jeered during an Acknowledgement of Country and the diversity statement – both standard features of council meetings in Melbourne
Casey mayor Stefan Koomen faced a barrage of criticism at the council’s meeting
attempts by councillors and their staff to respond to 63 pre-submitted questions were regularly interrupted as people in the audience shouted over the responses
with Koomen at one point being told: “Shut your f---ing mouth you c---.”
Most of the questions from the public related to an unpopular proposal to build a waste transfer station in Hampton Park
at a site close to homes and originally planned to be rehabilitated into parkland
But it was on other issues that the large public gallery was most voluble
leading Koomen to adjourn the meeting twice following multiple warnings and calls for silence
Councillors faced questions about the decision by Port Hedland council
to suspend mRNA vaccines late last year due to claims of DNA fragmentation
“These claims have been previously debunked by the Therapeutic Goods Administration and as such council did not support it,” a council officer responded
prompting boos and a reference to “crimes against humanity” by one audience member
A section of the audience was also there to protest against the council’s recent confiscation of several vintage vehicles and jet-skis it says were being stored on private property without a permit or the property owner’s permission
The issue had been reported by Channel 7 news and widely discussed on social media
the council said it “investigated a property in Hampton Park relating to six unregistered vehicles
jet-skis and trailers that were owned by the occupant of the neighbouring property”
Councillors were escorted from the meeting under police guard
officers discovered that these items were being stored on the property without consent from the owner
The owner of the unregistered vehicles lived adjacent at a neighbouring property and was found to be storing items on land that they were not the owners of
and did not have the authority to use,” the council said
Koomen told the public gallery the property had been owned by a local church since 2015
He said the local laws that led to the unregistered vehicles being impounded were not new or unique to council
But he conceded they had been poorly and confusingly explained in council documents
The explanation was shouted down by sections of the audience
Koomen said on Wednesday that he was “incredibly disappointed with the behaviour displayed at the council meeting” and that it would not be tolerated
“We had a number of residents attending the meeting in good faith
expecting to hear a response to their questions,” he said
along with our staff and my fellow councillors
The wellbeing and safety of community and staff attending our meetings is our top priority
The situation escalated to a point where the police had to be called due to the actions of some individuals in the gallery.”
Koomen told The Age councillors felt intimidated
but that the council remained committed to holding public meetings
He said it was particularly disappointing to hear loud booing during the acknowledgement of Country
“We have got a diverse community and the second-largest Indigenous community in Victoria
but a minority who had turned up to our meeting.”
a leading community campaigner against Veolia’s proposed waste transfer station
had a front-row seat and said the rancour began when council officers attempted to limit how many people could attend the meeting
He said people were told to go to their cars and watch the live-stream on their phones
and that a security guard at the gallery door was brushed aside
He said that at one point during the meeting he felt unsafe
though ultimately there was no violence or threats
“The crowd didn’t cross that black tape line
didn’t try to approach the council bench,” Dalli said
They didn’t have any input on the waste transfer station or the local laws.”
Dalli said he suspected many attendees had never attended a council meeting before
“They wanted to ask questions and get answers and that’s not what happens at council meetings
River Gum ward councillor Lynette Pereira said on Wednesday that she was “very disappointed” in the behaviour of sections of the crowd
“I was very happy to see a lot of people attend
I’m all for community engagement but certain people in the crowd were extremely racist
“They were just yelling through the answers
and they were not interested in listening.”
Koomen adjourned the meeting to a later date

Tim Schenken OAM inducted the new awardees while Mick Doohan AM uplifted Stoner to Legend status during the ceremony
The Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame was established in 2016 by the Australian Motorsport Council (AMC) and is constituted by Australia’s peak motorsport governing bodies across the five key motorsport disciplines – automobile
It celebrates and preserves the legacy of Australian motorsport
recognising the top tier of achievers and inspiring future generations of competitors
“The Hall of Fame honours our top tier of achievers and serves to inspire the next generation of racers,” said John Smailes
Chair of the Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame
“It is so exclusive that it accounts for less than one person for each of the 125 years motorsport has occurred in Australia.”
The Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame continues to play a vital role in recognising the extraordinary achievements of individuals who have shaped the history of Australian motorsport
Casey Stoner AM deservedly joins Sir Jack Brabham
Mick Doohan and Alan Jones as the quartet of legends
the highest echelon of the Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame
He won Ducati their first senior class world championship – and took Bridgestone along on the world title ride
On one of the fastest and most challenging motorcycle circuits in the world – Phillip Island – Casey won six times and then stunned Honda and his fans by announcing his retirement on his twenty seventh birthday
Honda offered him “more money than we have ever offered any rider or driver” – but with determination and maturity Casey declined
A decade on there are those who say he stepped down way too early
but Casey has remained firm to his commitment
wife Adriana and daughters Alessandra and Caleya has helped him built a new life One in which his legend continues to grow as one of the greatest racers of his generation
The 1960s heralded the birth of a new era of motorsport and Leo
his brother Pete and father Tom led the charge
When Sir Jack Brabham controversially branded his Cooper Bristol the Redex Special
Leo and Pete- too young to drive- were there for the reveal
Leo made his name in the emerging world of touring car racing
His streamlined FJ Holden won the first NSW Road Racing Championship for Sedan cars
Leo was always meant for open wheeler racing
The Geoghegan family secured the franchise for Lotus
Leo was so good that world champion Jim Clark implored him to come to Europe
But father Tom had died and Leo’s first duty lay to the family business
In 1969 he won the inaugural JAF Japanese Grand Prix in the ex-Clark Lotus 39 fitted with a locally made Repco V8
In a ten year span Leo won the Australian Gold Star Driver’s Championship
the Australian Formula Junior title and the Formula Two championship twice
With Pete he won the Bathurst Six Hour – precursor to the Bathurst 1000
Australia’s Great Race. The brothers won that event too
only to be protested back to second by their team-mate Harry FirthLeo was central to the development of the Chrysler Charger that took on the mite of Holden and Ford
co-driving for Colin Bond that he took his last Bathurst podium
a worthy and welcome inductee in the Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame
They’re the Matildas of Motorcycling – five times world champions in one of the oldest and toughest disciplines of all
Jemma Wilson and Tayla Jones dominated the Women’s International Six Day Enduro
It took almost a century for women to be admitted
and Australia ,along with France and the USA
Competitors complete a series of trials- more than 250 unique kilometres each day with a motocross on Day Six / fourteen hundred kilometres in total
They’re not allowed to recce on their bikes or use pace notes– so they walk the sections and commit to memory
They’re allowed just 25 minutes of non-competitive time a day to work on their own machines – no outside hands-on assistance allowed
Enduro bikes are slightly detuned full works motocrossers with headlights and side stands – but so tight is competition that when the occasion demands they’ll power up
Village by-passes serve up near impossible combinations of tight alleys and tyre eating rocks
The ISDE awards individual world championship medals
Jess Gardner and Tayla Jones have both claimed the top step
In Slovakia in 2015 the team totally dominated- Tayla Jones first
Jess Gardiner third.Injuries caused Jemma to retire in 2017 but by then the Aussie dream team had set a standard which has seen subsequent Australian attempts flourish
Locked in a tight annual battle with the USA
Australia can rightly claim its place as one of the world’s best ISDE world championship competitors
Tayla Jones and Jemma Wilson: deserving inductees in the Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame

eclipsing by three the previous record held by John Pizzaro
another member of the Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame
While he’s raced and won around the world against F1 champions like Charles Leclerc and Supercar star Mark Winterbottom
but never moving from the Karting discipline
Just 36,and now retired from active competition
he recognises Karting as motorsport’s pathway but steadfastly maintains a protagonist of club level racing
a family affair.Welcome David Sera to the Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame
At 63 years of age Australia’s most renowned Top Fuel Drag racer Chris Matheson became the first to break the six second barrier for the quarter mile – a feat equivalent to running the four minute mile
Born outside Tamworth in 1961 Chris was always meant to do great things on two wheels
Early dirt bike experience confirmed his skill and balance
but a career in property development got in the way of his competition ambition
Chris imported a top fuel drag bikes from the states and set out in pursuit of the elusive five second pass
Over a decade he became our country’s pre-eminent racer- eight championships
Matheson’s proud claim is that at 379kmh it was the fastest motorcycle crash in the world in which the rider survived
Undaunted he set out to build a bike even faster
Top Fuel bikes are powered by 1.5litre four cylinder supercharged engines- incredibly developing two thousand horsepower
Each component made from a single billet of steel
Ten years to the day after the crash he achieved his sub-second goal at Sydney Dragway
Now he’s working on building the first twin cylinder Harley to go under six seconds anywhere in the world: but someone else will ride it
and unique ,member of the Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame
They called him the Hunter Valley Hurricane but Australia was never going to be big enough for Chad Reed
At 18 the indigenous youngster from Kurri Kurri took himself and his girlfriend now wife Ellie off to Europe: First place in the 2001 Motocross of Nations in Belgium
Stadium Supercross was the coming super sport and Chad took it by the scruff of its neck
A mixture of genius let him take on a beat his all-time hero Ricky Carmichael
A twenty year stellar career doesn’t come without sacrifice
Although a super athlete Reed has battle injuries, combining the indoor supercross discipline with traditional motocross where he’s won on three continents ,a total of 19 championships
In 2009 he was named the AMA’s Athlete of the Year
a friend of MotoGp and F1 stars ,in their view not only their equal but a performer to be admired
In 2020 when he made his first retirement announcement it was an emotional moment
He’s come back since then; the rush of competition too great to resist
Eldest son Tate is now racing and Chad and Ellie are supporting his fledgling career
Welcome Chad Reed to the Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame
In the decade when the Calder Thunderdome challenged the concept of motor racing in Australia ,crew chief John Sidney ruled the sport
When high speed oval crashes caused chaos John Sidney introduced pit stop strategy
refuelling under safety car conditions- all were foreign concepts
With drivers Max Dumesny and Barry Graham his state of the art professional team won six NASCAR titles at the Thunderdome ,more than any other
His association with sprint car hero Max Dumesny
netted them the Australian championship and three world sprint car series
As a 17 year old John Sidney started out on the skids
winning regional meetings and then finally state production car titles
His Chrysler Valiant stock car may have looked rough
but in typical Sidney style it was super tuned with chassis and handling that was class leading
His mentor was ace development engineer Jack Godbehear
Sidney embraced early sprint car racing wheel to wheel on the rough hewn regional tracks of Victoria
His CRC sprint car soon grew wings – leading the aero-revolution
But it was in the workshop as an engineer and on the pit wall as a strategist that John found his true calling
He advised and worked with some of the best and most ambitious teams in the country
But it was his own team that became his passion and life’s work.
John closed the doors on John Sidney Racing last year
yet he still sneaks in occasionally to build motors for friends
a worthy inductee into the Australian Motorsport Hall of Fame

The former Australian Idol winner has opened up about using Ozempic and the effect it has had on her both physically and mentally
Casey Donovan has opened up about her weight
her critics and the impact of using weight loss medication.
The 36-year-old singer first found fame after winning the second season of Australian Idol in 2004
she has built a diverse career across music and television
starring in major musical theatre productions including Chicago
She's now preparing for a national tribute tour alongside music legend Marcia Hines
where the duo will perform the greatest hits of the late Donna Summer
But after spending most of her life in the spotlight
Donovan has spoken candidly about her long-standing struggles with body image and criticism, and why she's decided to partner with Juniper
a program that combines GLP-1 medications with holistic support.
GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic and Mounjaro help regulate appetite and are increasingly being used in medical weight loss programs
no matter what my size," Donovan told HELLO
and there's always been someone there to dampen that
"And that has been quite difficult to understand and to learn over the last 21 years."
Donovan won the reality show I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here
and reportedly lost a significant amount of weight while living on the show's strict food rations: just 25 grams of oats
200 grams of vegetables and two tablespoons of oil per day
she continued her health journey by joining a wellness program shared on Facebook
At her heaviest Donovan weighed around 136kg
however in 2022 she revealed she weighed under 100kg for the first time in her adult life and was feeling her "best self"
Donovan said food had always played a dominant- and at times overwhelming- role in her life
I’ve just been programmed to kind of go
What am I going to eat?' And stand at the fridge
She said medication had helped ease that constant mental back-and-forth
you're very much able to kind of see quite clear when it comes to food now
It's not about constantly arguing with yourself."
Donovan also said her decision to explore weight loss treatment was driven by a desire to protect her long-term health and reduce the risk of obesity-related conditions
and that’s OK," she said of using Juniper’s services
This article does not promote or endorse any medical weight loss treatments

The GIANTS’ VFL side has stamped itself as an early-season premiership contender after a red-hot start and a monster third term saw them remain undefeated with a comfortable 53-point win over the Demons at Casey Fields on Saturday
Coming off impressive wins over Williamstown and Sandringham prior to the league-wide VFL bye last week
the GIANTS scorched the Demons with a ruthless six goal to one opening quarter before taking it to another level after half-time with a clinical eight goal to one third term to see them run out 19.6 (120) to 9.13 (67) winners in hot conditions
Up against a Casey side fielding the likes of regular AFL duo Jacob Van Rooyen and Bayley Fritsch
the GIANTS’ pressure and ability to make the Demons pay for costly turnovers was too much for the home side to overcome as the GIANTS registered their third win from three starts thus far in 2025
Led early by another strong showing from emerging ruck Nick Madden (26 touches
the orange tsunami surged with a favourable wind in the opening term and despite some slight resistance from the Demons in the second stanza
were far too much for Casey to match over the four quarters
Holding a 30-point lead at quarter time and a 26-point lead at the main break
the GIANTS incredible accuracy and ability to punish the Demons on counterattack was a sight to see as they outscored Casey 8.2 to 1.3 in the premiership quarter alone to take an unsurmountable 67-point lead into the final change
The GIANTS were ruthless and incredibly efficient to start the clash
with Wayne Cripps’ men turning everything into gold as they kicked 5.1 from their first six inside 50s to race out to a five-goal lead only 15 minutes into the clash
While the Demons showed some resistance in the second and final terms with the wind at their backs
the GIANTS’ clinical first and third terms saw them easily account for the Demons to firmly entrench themselves inside the top four after a 3-0 start to the season
While Madden was dominant in the ruck – in which he had 18 touches
18 hit-outs and seven clearances in an outstanding first half – it was exciting young goal-kicking duo Max Gruzewski (five goals) and Nathan Wardius (four goals) who starred up forward to continually cause headaches for Demons defenders on Saturday afternoon
Gruzewski was a beacon in attack all day and had four goals to his name by the half
while Wardius backed up his career-best eight-goal haul from two weeks ago with another brilliant performance as he pushes for an AFL debut
VFL-listed GIANT James Lugsdin chimed in with three goals of his own in a brilliant VFL debut in GIANTS colours
While the forwards were getting the rewards on the scoreboard it was the brilliance of the GIANTS’ backline which also played a huge role in Saturday’s big win
Wade Derksen and Leek Aleer in particular shining against the Demons
seven marks) starred early as they repelled everything from the Demons to combine for 14 touches and eight marks in a brilliant opening term to help set the tone for a powerful performance from the GIANTS’ back six
Often matched up against AFL regular Van Rooyen (one goal)
Derksen won crucial one-on- one contests early and blanketed the young key forward while he was also able to help turn defence into attack on numerous occasions in a standout performance
Matched up against Fritsch (one goal) for most of the day
11 marks) was similarly as impressive as he nullified Fritsch’ influence throughout the day
while also finding plenty of the footy himself to lead the GIANTS in both disposals and marks
Leake’s performance down back highlights the youngster’s versatility after playing both up forward and through the middle so far this season in both the GIANTS’ AFL and VFL sides
A host of fellow youngsters also carried on their strong starts to 2025 on Saturday
five clearances) all solid contributors in victory
Saturday’s win also saw the successful return of a trio of AFL-listed GIANTS
five tackles) all getting through unscathed and showing positive signs in their first games of the season following their respective recoveries from injury
Exciting Western Sydney draftee Josaia Delana (10 touches
one goal) also had his moments against the Demons as he continues to excite in his first year at the club
Leading the way for the VFL-listed GIANTS alongside Lugsdin was midfielder Marc Sheather (16 touches
a goal) and brothers Louie and Harper Montgomery who combined for 30 touches and eight marks out of defence
The GIANTS will look to remain undefeated in the VFL when they host Footscray in Blacktown next Sunday at midday
GIANTS 6.1 9.1 17.3 19.6 (120)Casey Demons 1.1 4.5 5.8 9.13 (67)

With exactly four weeks until election day
four of the candidates for the electorate of Casey put themselves under the microscope of local voters in Tecoma
Held in the Tecoma Uniting Church on Saturday 5 April
Minister Matt Cutler opened the event to a full house before handing over to Foothills Community Care chief executive Stephen Barrington to MC the day
Greens candidate Dr Merran Blair and incumbent Liberal MP Aaron Violi attended
Mr Violi and Ms Ferres-Miles live within the electorate
while Dr Blair lives just outside in Emerald and Ms Oakley left the electorate in the last 12 months due to costs
After some lighthearted introductory questions to settle everyone in
the candidates were then asked to identify the three biggest issues in Casey they have identified
All four named the cost of living and/or doing business as the first issue put forward to them while they each had a couple of shared or differing views as to what else matters most
Mr Violi went first and also identified housing availability and affordability
particularly due to the limits large parts of the electorate face due to Green Wedge zoning
and communications infrastructure as key concerns to address as getting ‘foundations right for the future.’
Dr Blair was next and said putting ‘systems in place’ to tax big corporations which could be used to help alleviate the cost of living pressures (inciting a cheer from the audience)
climate change and protecting wildlife and the environment were key issues for Casey
Ms Ferres-Miles picked out housing and climate change as her additional issues to bring to the table
also making the distinction to address a concern that spanned the cost of living
housing and climate change; the insurance industry
citing an unnamed local farmer whose insurance premiums rose from ‘$5000 to $25,000 in three years’
Ms Oakley picked the particular costs of health
as well as improving communications in the region
sticking to emissions reductions targets and renewable energy use nationwide
Next candidates were asked to make three suggestions to help address the cost of living crisis
Ms Oakley went first and named a number of Labor policies which are targeted at the cost of living
$10 million in funding for social and affordable housing and Medicare and Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) investment
while leaning on her previous lived experience as a renter and sole parent to make clear she doesn’t ‘live in a bubble’
Ms Ferres-Miles made three suggestions for a supermarket ombudsman to help crack down on price gouging and anti-competitive practices in the industry
investment in renewable energy batteries for homes and businesses to help give residents ‘control’ of their energy costs and insurance industry reform to assist the under-and-uninsured Casey constituents
Dr Blair wants to crack down on illegal price gouging in supermarkets
add dental and mental health care to Medicare and crack down on the profiteering of the big banks
including through a ‘mortgage keeper product’ for owner-occupiers which would limit the interest rates a bank can charge mortgages for primary homes to only one per cent above the cash rate
Mr Violi used his background in the food industry to also take aim at the major supermarkets by introducing grocery divestiture powers to break up the duopoly of Coles and Woolworths if needed and hurt them by impacting ‘their market share’
as well as investing in infrastructure and housing and ensure people are able to insure their assets
Ms Oakley identified Labor’s efforts to reduce ‘feral animals and weeds’
reduce emissions and hit a target of 82 per cent of Australia’s energy grid being run on renewable energy
Ms Ferres-Miles expressed her disappointment in the current Labor government’s efforts (approving new coal and gas projects)
the lack of royalties Australia receives for our gas
putting forward a no-nuclear stance and aiming for large-scale investment in solar
getting many claps of approval from the audience
Dr Blair similarly disproved of the 25 coal and gas projects approved under Labor
praised the innovation into microgrids and virtual power plants in improving energy resilience which the crowd also enjoyed and called for subsidies to electrify Australian homes
Mr Violi faced a tough crowd when putting forward his idea to address the ‘three key pillars’ of energy
reliability and the journey to net zero by 2050
Mr Violi said the Coalition want a ‘balanced transition’ from a coal
The mention of nuclear energy was heavily booed
with laughs from the crowd after Mr Violi said there would be no nuclear power plant in the Yarra Valley and further boos when attempting to identify the potential for nuclear energy to use existing transmission lines and create zero emissions
Ms Oakley again identified Labor policies to improve bulk billing and invest in Medicare and the PBS
and was unclear on their policy for mental health but said through her experience working with people experiencing mental healths concerns that she would campaign for more to be done
Ms Ferres-Miles’ major concern was the complete lack of emergency department in the Casey electorate with Warburton Hospital remaining closed and Healesville Hospital’s emergency department having been closed
sharing a story she was told in Hoddles Creek by a resident who was told by emergency responders to drive her husband
to hospital herself and on the way was told Maroondah Hospital was on bypass and she had to keep going to Box Hill Hospital
Ms Ferres-Miles also identified the need to increase bulk-billing rates in Casey and approved of adding dental and mental health to Medicare
Dr Blair wants to triple the Medicare rebate for GPs
increase emergency care clinics across the country
increase access to Allied Health services and incentivise training for mental health professionals
Mr Violi pointed to the Coalition’s pledges to invest $400 million into youth mental health
to reinstate the 20 subsidised mental healthcare sessions which Labor cut to 10 and to deliver an Urgent Care Clinic in Healesville
Questions from the crowd wrapped up the event
Mr Violi was asked why Opposition Leader Peter Dutton allegedly removed LGBTQIA+ flags from the offices of Headspace Melton ahead of a press conference and after initially refusing to answer something that ‘wasn’t a question’
he later said media reports ‘are not always factual’ and he was not involved in the national campaign
Ms Ferres-Miles and Dr Blair expressed they were opposed to negative impacts of the industry and Mr Violi emphasised that agriculture neds to be supported to operate sustainably
On their thoughts on the conflict between Israel and Palestine
Ms Oakley said she was devastated by the loss of life
Ms Ferres-Miles said the actions of Israel are not proportionate
Dr Blair wants Australia to speak out louder against Israel and Mr Violi supports a two-state solution
Mr Violi was asked by an impressive young attendee where nuclear waste would be stored
and he identified similar facilities such as the one in Lucas Heights (New South Wales) where Australia’s only nuclear reactor is
sparking a hostile reaction from large portion of the crowd and Ms Oakley
Ms Ferres-Miles and Dr Blair all supported a woman’s right to choose and Mr Violi said it was a state issue and that we should ‘protect all people’
When asked whether they would keep showcasing the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags at their press conferences
The last questions was to Dr Blair and Ms Ferres-Miles about whether they would help the Coaltion form government
with Dr Blair firmly against it and Ms Ferres-Miles saying it was dependent on policy
but that she would currently edge towards Labor
More ‘Meet the Candidates’ events in Casey are set to be held before election day on Saturday 3 May
Life on Casey Station with the carpentry A-team
Life on Casey station has been an incredible adventure for us here as a carpentry team
from the vast amount of different scopes of work
to being able to go on weekend trips to huts and explore as much of Antarctica as we’ve been permitted to explore
Tas-man and Haydo’s and we’re all about one team one dream
Our team comes from many different backgrounds of construction as well as different parts of Australia so all of this adds to the perfect combination of an elite team that we are
We’ve been able to kick goals since we’ve been here in both our project teams and also our maintenance team and have made significant progress which we have all been stoked about
Here's some highlights that we all think were some great times
The sounds of joyful pitter pattering from the expeditioners was heard in the morning by all
The day started off with a obligatory station game of cricket in the morning at 9am
where sixes were hit and ducks were bowled all while Christmas tunes played from some fat speakers on a Polaris
from eggs benny to jam doughnuts and all the way to fruit platters as well
it's Santa’s sly and secret Santa gifts in the Wallow
We had Santa himself and all the way to the Grinch and some elves cruised in on the Christmas Hagg
Missus Clause and the Elves handed out pressies to everyone
it's cocktails and catch-ups in the bar from Shirely island ice teas to an Espresso martini called get Railzed (named after a plumber's nickname)
We had an amazing team making them all evening for everyone
Everyone helped out from setting tables up to hanging multiple flags up in the mess displayed around the beautiful food the chefs had made for everyone
The evening and food was incredible and it was truly one of the best Christmases I've had given we had a belated Christmas and away from family and friends
The community here and friendships made have made this a very special time
The team recently had a very successful overnight work trip to Robbo’s Hut
The trip began with us loading up the green hag with our tools
The trip took a bit over an hour with a couple of pit stops along the way to check out the incredible scenery as well as giving the boys in back of the hagg a break from the confines of being crammed between boxes of drills
saws and pee drums leaving little space for the workers
Rolling into Robbos we jumped straight into action
unloading all the tools and began sanding the weathered Antarctic deck which was well overdue for some TLC
We finished the day with a walk down to the water to watch the penguins migrate back to their nests
We were even lucky enough to see some chicks on the way
We then headed back to camp where we indulged in some left over tucker from the catch and kill fridge from the night before
The night's sleep was a bit rough with a symphony of snoring alternating between the 4 boys but we wouldn’t let it ruin our trip
Day two we had a quick breakfast and a well-needed cup of coffee
packed up the hagg and began work inside the hut
We sanded up all the internal window reveals
finished with some new oil giving them a new lease on life
We re-laid some tiles on the toilet floor to make a bit more sanitary
We finally finished with oiling the deck with some high quality oil
Very content with our works we jumped back in hagg and headed back to base already planning our next work trip adventure

The signing to the NBL1 South club will be a homecoming of sorts for the Melbourne product
after more than six years away from his home state
in both the United States and then Sydney - which really excited the Portland Pilots alum
"I couldn’t be more excited [to be back home in Melbourne after six years away in the US and Sydney]," said King #252 Robertson

Casey research station is turning into quite a nice home
there are quiet corners where you can have a chat
and you can now get a game of darts before 11pm
The kitchen is starting to feel more organised as the summer demand has gone
and the community side of things on station is really starting to happen
There’s even talk of a work crew to start pitting the 247kg of whole kalamata olives we have in the greenstore
who once had a near-fatal experience with black Sambuca
The Wilkins Aerodrome crew are still hard at it winterising and grooming the aerodrome in between weather windows
They've already experienced a few show-stopping blizzards as they push towards the end of the pack-down
Hopefully they’ll arrive on station next week
I've already put aside a couple of spare olive pitters for them
Their arrival will be another good excuse for a station event with the obligatory strange fashion choices
After a field operations recess last week (that's where we stop operations and field travel to allow the incoming Station Leader to assess the various emergency response capabilities) there’s now a bunch of field trips happening over the next few weekends
so you can expect a more coherent and focussed weekly update from now on
here’s some photos of the weird and wonderful sights and inhabitants of the local area here at Casey research station

Casey Donovan has opened up about the moment she decided to make a drastic change to her lifestyle in order to start a family with her fiancée
Casey Donovan has opened up about the moment she decided to make a drastic change to her lifestyle after consulting her doctor about the risks of developing heart disease or diabetes
Donovan, 36, recently lost a significant amount of weight after overhauling her lifestyle
including the use of a GLP-1 weight loss medication
the beloved Aussie singer revealed what prompted her drastic health overhaul after years of gaining and losing weight
“I’m 36 now and I finally realised that, if I want to be healthy and fit at 40, I need to take some real and lasting preventative measures now,” she told New Idea magazine
Donovan also told the magazine that she was hoping to start a family with her fiancée Renee Sharples in the “semi-near future”
revealing she was "in such a good place in my life right now"
The Australian Idol winner said she consulted her doctor about options to lose weight before ultimately deciding on the weight loss product Juniper
“I’d gone to my doctor to talk about what options there were for me around my weight
“I’d already started looking into medical weight-loss options and then Juniper came along
I’ve constantly thought about what I can eat and when
"That is so freeing and liberating.”
“I’m just trying to get myself to a place where I don’t have to worry about diabetes or heart disease and one where I can continue to do what I love and be with the people I love for as long as possible,” she said
The beloved songstress first found fame after winning the second season of Australian Idol in 2004
As the Antarctic summer begins to wind down
Casey research station is seeing a flurry of activity with the return of scientists and researchers who have spent the season working at remote field camps
One of the first signs that the end of the summer season is upon us came when a JKB plane made its way back from Denman Terrestrial Campaign camp
bringing with it a team of scientists who had been conducting important research in the area
Their return marks a significant milestone in the seasonal rhythm at Casey station
with preparations now underway for the transition from the summer campaign to the quieter winter months
The return of the Denman team is one of the first steps in what will be a series of departures over the next few weeks
the realization that the season is coming to a close is beginning to set in
and scientific observations are nearing their end
and soon Casey station will see a dramatic shift in its population as staff return to Australia
This annual changeover is a monumental logistical undertaking
involving careful coordination to ensure that all personnel
and scientific samples are safely transported back home
While the transition to the winter season is underway
the remaining residents of Casey station are making the most of the brief but precious summer conditions
many of the station members have taken part in the summer swim
a daring dive into the frigid Antarctic waters
the swim has become a symbol of the unique camaraderie and spirit that defines life at stations in Antarctica
As the temperature drops and the ice begins to encroach
these moments of warmth and fun are a reminder of the extraordinary experiences that come with working in one of the most remote places on Earth
With the increase in population during the summer months
Casey Station has seen a corresponding increase in its demand for supplies
More personnel means more meals to prepare
and the kitchen staff are working overtime to ensure that everyone is fed and ready for the upcoming logistical challenges
the kitchen team is also tasked with managing the inventory of food
ensuring that all supplies are accounted for
and minimizing waste as the station winds down its operations for the season
as the final personnel are brought back to base
attention has already turned to the meticulous process of getting people
and scientific samples safely back to Australia
This involves a coordinated effort between various supporting teams
The careful planning required to ensure that everything and everyone makes it back safely is a testament to the professionalism and commitment of the team at Casey station and the Australian Antarctic Division as a whole
the hustle and bustle at Casey station may be winding down
but the spirit of cooperation and determination remains strong
The station's staff have already begun laying the groundwork for another successful season of research and exploration in the Antarctic wilderness

The City of Casey Council's weekly meeting went ahead last night after banning the public from attending.
It follows an angry meeting last month where residents protested loudly, so councillors sought advice from Victoria Police about their safety.
Vice President of the Casey Ratepayers Association Anthony Tassone said 50-60 people gathered outside the closed meeting, but the mood was subdued.
