Reusable product brand Frank Green has opened its first standalone store in Melbourne
establishing a home base while pursuing international ambitions
Located in the fashion hotspot Chadstone Shopping Centre
the airy space showcases Frank Green’s full line of bottles
Central to the store is a display made of more than 1,600 chrome Frank Green bottles
highlighting the product that drove the brand to cult success
Shoppers can personalise their purchases with unique colour combinations
The store will also launch Frank Green’s new recycling initiative
allowing customers to drop off their battle-tested bottles
Frank Green’s physical store arrives just over 10 years after Melbourne entrepreneur Benjamin Young launched the brand
Young said the brand and its product range have grown enough to warrant a physical outlet
“It’s time to showcase the entire Frank Green lifestyle we’ve thoughtfully created to make sustainable living irresistible,” said Young
The shop arrives at a pinch point for physical retail
as cost-conscious shoppers turn away from many discretionary purchases
But Young said more physical Frank Green stores are in the works
expanding its store network beyond the world-famous Chadstone precinct
The brand operates its own e-commerce site
but has also prospered through a robust retail operation
Its products are also stocked in retailers across New Zealand
Young maintains those domestic and international relationships will not change
despite the expansion of its own store network
“We have always worked really closely with our retail partners to ensure the right product mix to suit their customer needs,” said Young
“Australia (and Melbourne) is our home so we want to celebrate while we are underway with realising our global ambitions,” he added
Young said the brand is keen to develop more products capable of reducing day-to-day waste
Frank Green will work with partners using “innovation
creativity and design to find solutions that empower people to make more sustainable choices”

Melbourne
Holy moly! Gone are the days when, mid-shop and feeling hungry, all you could find at your local shopping centre was the somewhat satisfying-yet-predictable trifecta of basic fast food outlets. From the 2014 unveiling of Emporium's glam food court to the post-pandemic opening of Grazeland in the west
today's dining-scape of foodie wonderlands around Melbourne is broader and brighter than ever before – and the newest addition to our very own suburban 'fashion capital' is no exception.
That's right, folks. Chadstone has just opened the floodgates to a sprawling new haven for all your epicurean shopping and dining needs. At 26,500 square metres, the Market Pavilion is technically larger than the MCG
what can you actually eat and buy here?
the Market Pavilion boasts about 50 popular retailers offering artisan-made meals and treats
fresh produce and rows upon rows of gourmet ingredients for all your home-cooking whims
the development is set to become one of Melbourne's most buzzing hives for dining and specialty grocery shopping. There's even a complimentary food concierge service
so that visitors can store their fresh produce for refrigeration before picking it up at the end of their shop
“With the opening of the Market Pavilion
we are redefining the way Melburnians experience food,” shared Chadstone's manager
Immersive food experiences are anticipated in the next several months
masterclasses and pop-up collaborations with some of the country’s most exciting chefs and producers

The three-bedroom house at 21 Hume St was listed with a $3.35m-$3.45m

she said the abode’s location was a major drawcard

“It was a single level property with garaging and if we look at who the target audience were
they were in that downsizer model,” Ms Fetter said

It’s good news for the sellers of more than 1300 auctions scheduled across the state this week
with 1330 in Melbourne and 49 in regional Victoria
The suburb with the largest amount of residences going under the hammer is Kew with 25 scheduled auctions
PropTrack economist Angus Moore said Melbourne’s clearance rates had been bouncing around the low to mid-60 per cent range which was “reasonably solid”
“(It’s) certainly better than what we were seeing towards the end of last year … through spring and into December when it was around the mid to high-50s,” Mr Moore said
He added that demand had started to grow off the back of February’s rate cut
“Melbourne has underperformed relative to pretty much everywhere else in Australia,” he said

In February, Singer married Jason Sibio (not her date to Aladdin) in the centre. The venue was the upmarket Cityfields restaurant in the new social quarter
a restaurant and entertainment development
has a grand terrace looking towards the distant CBD skyline
The couple didn’t feel they were marrying in a shopping centre
“We saw it as we were getting married at this venue that happened to be here and also had this great hotel attached to it

Something changes when you walk into the 500-shop retail behemoth that is the Chadstone Shopping Centre
Underneath the massive steel and glass grid-shell roof
Everything in the world you could possibly want is here
Except a gym or a Woolworths (both closed and under renovation)
It turns out that strange difference is not imagination
The building is pressurised so customers feel a rush of air coming at them when they walk in
and free bus from Federation Square that brings nearly 100,000 shoppers annually
is all part of the retail strategy to allow visitors “to live all of their life needs” on site
“We essentially like to keep it at 23 degrees,” says centre manager Daniel Boyle
Is that to make me hungry and drive me to the food court
that is certainly an urban myth,” Boyle says

I thought the Hello Kitty cafe was just another food outlet

A side corridor to a service lift displays large black and white photos of Chadstone past. The Myer family built the first iteration of Chadstone in 1960 (there have been about 50 updates since)
The original open air mall with 72 shops and a Myer department store was built on part of the old site of the Convent of the Good Shepherd
where young girls were sent by their families and the children’s court
the lands were occupied by the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong peoples
who used to camp along nearby river and creek banks
Businessman John Gandel bought the shopping centre in 1983 and enclosed the mall the following year
At opening (1960) it was worth £6 million; today
The Gandel Group owns 50 per cent and the publicly listed Vicinity Centres the other 50 per cent
“Of everything I have achieved in business I am most proud of Chadstone,” Gandel tells The Age in an email
he says it is remarkable that Chadstone is one of the world’s five most successful shopping centres
“There’s a high chance that if you’re a Melburnian
I will walk through the mall or sit in the food court and just watch the people around me
It’s a nice place to be and it gives me great pleasure to see this.”

Boyle says any large public place will have its share of anti-social behaviour
“The benefit of somewhere like Chadstone is that we can curate the environment around the deployment of security resources
security infrastructure and a very swift level of response.”
the centre will open a new fresh food offering
“I have lost count of the number of development applications that have come through council for Chadstone,” said Melina Sehr
mayor of Stonnington Council and a councillor since 2001
She criticised the state government’s proposal to make Chadstone one of its activity centres
which will throw an 800-metre catchment for high-rise residential towers around the shopping centre and rob locals of the right to object to planning decisions

The centre is a “good corporate neighbour” but transport needs improvement
“We all know the Chadstone car parking disasters around Christmas and Boxing Day – that has always been a big issue for us
We cannot continue to rely on the dependence of cars around Chadstone.”
“There’s few conversations I have with anyone that I meet that don’t involve car parking,” he says
Next year when the fresh food Market Pavilion opens
the centre will have just under 11,500 car park spaces (in 1960 it had 2500)
but shoppers who stay more than two hours in zones near the redeveloped food section will pay for the first time
but endless circling is a “bit of an urban myth”
“Habitual customers wanting to park in the same spot – that may not necessarily be the spot where the free car parks are,” he explains
Electronic monitoring takes a snapshot of cars every five seconds and a computer system calculates the quickest route to the park
which is displayed on digital signs on approach roads
“That may not be where they thought they’d park
but we’ll get them there very quickly,” Boyle says
the centre will have up to 40 traffic controllers supervising parking
“Vic Roads will adjust the sequencing of the traffic lights off property to make sure that we can get people in and out,” Boyle says
Boyle doesn’t agree that Chadstone swallowed Chapel Street
the experience is not curated to meet the needs of the consumers
then they will make a decision to go somewhere else.”
Gandel and Vicinity decided Chadstone needed to become a second city
adding the social quarter dining and entertainment precinct
the revitalised fresh food precinct Market Pavilion
“There’s strong demand for neighbourhoods where people can live
and play within a 20-minute walk from home
I sometimes think that the various levels of government don’t see what Chadstone could be,” John Gandel says
“They’ve not adequately considered the opportunities
With meaningful government support and support of the many others

Good question. At 1.30pm midweek, we struggled to find a seat at one of the three new restaurants upstairs. There’s food-court-style seating (more beautiful, of course) where you can bring sandwiches or sushi from nearby stalls, but if you want to lean into the fanciness of Market Pavilion and eat at Amalfi pasta bar or That’s Amore, prepare to queue (and then squish in).
Is this the Vegas of food shopping? It’s probably closer to the high-quality malls in Asia, where dining, shopping and recreation meet. Foreign exchange brand Travelex has relaunched its store in Chadstone Shopping Centre, Melbourne, which attracts more than 400,000 visitors a year.
Chadstone is the largest shopping centre in the Southern Hemisphere and home to over 500 local and international brands. Travelex first opened at Chadstone in 2008, with the newly relaunched store forming part of a broader $485 million redevelopment and expansion of the retail destination.
Located in the renovated Market Pavilion, the store enables customers to conveniently purchase or pick up pre-ordered travel money in over 50 different currencies, as well as use an ATM to obtain US dollars, Euros, Japanese yen, and Indonesian rupiah. Travellers can also top up their Travelex pre-paid Travel Money Card (TMC) at the store, which features a new modern design in line with the Chadstone’s premium retail experience.
“Our new Chadstone store offers unparalleled pre-trip convenience at one of the world’s most iconic retail destinations,” Travelex ANZ head of commercial partnerships, Dominic Mesiti, said. “We’re excited to form part of Chadstone’s wider redevelopment and to provide our customers with a premium experience.”
The relaunch of the Chadstone store comes as Australia’s outbound travel market continues to surge, with ATIA reporting a 16 per cent increase in international trips by Australians in 2024. This includes a 57 per cent increase in trips to Japan and a 23 per cent increase in trips to Indonesia. Last year Australians also took 12 per cent more short-term trips abroad – a 56 per cent increase on pre-pandemic levels.
“Outbound travel is absolutely booming, and we know Aussies like to spend via both cash and card when they go abroad,” Mesiti added. “Increasingly, we’re seeing travellers also like to acquire travel money in advance of their trip and our new store is conveniently located for those last-minute pre-trip errands.”
Travelex opened 18 new stores and kiosks across Australia in 2024, including in prime locations in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra.
“Chadstone really is so much more than a shopping destination – it’s a lifestyle destination and a cultural hub, for Melbournians, Australians, and tourists from far and wide,” Chadstone Centre manager, Daniel Boyle, said. “The Market Pavilion is a celebration of quality, craftsmanship and the rich food culture that makes our city unique. We’re proud to have over 50 market-leading retailers across the 26,500sqm.”

An electric vehicle owner has been blindsided by 'idle fees' after leaving their fully-charged Polestar plugged in for hours at Australia's biggest shopping centre
They left the Polestar charging for an extensive period while running Christmas errands at Melbourne's Chadstone Shopping Centre
The incident has sparked a heated debate about charging etiquette after a fellow shopper shared a photo of the offending EV online
'That's gonna be one hell of an idle bill,' they wrote commented
Idle fees usually cost a dollar per minute and are charged to owners who keep their fully-charged EV connected to a car park charger
The fees were introduced to stop drivers from using the limited charging bays for extended periods
A fellow EV driver led calls for tougher deterrents for EV owners using fast chargers at public places such as shopping centres
'All fast chargers should have idle fees,' they said
The incident has sparked a plea from the Electric Vehicle Council for EV owners to show respect to fellow drivers during the busy post-Christmas sales and holiday period
'Don't overstay your charge, leave home with a full battery, and be courteous to your fellow EV drivers,' legal, policy, and advocacy head Aman Gaur told Yahoo
Western Australia first trialled idle fees in mid-2023 and is expected to expand increasingly across Australia
Tesla applies the fees to busy superchargers
and the NRMA has indicated that it plans to introduce them in the future
Tesla's idle fees only apply when a station is at more than 50 per cent capacity
Almost one in 10 new cars sold in Australia are electric, according to the EVC
More than 100,000 vehicles were added to Australian roads in 2024.
Authorities and businesses have rushed to build and maintain enough fast public chargers
There are reportedly 1,059 charging locations in Australia
the public charging network is growing to keep up with demand
the number of public chargers and their locations has nearly doubled across the country
with more public and private investment in the pipeline to expand this further in the new year,' Mr Gaur said
EV drivers in need of charging faced a bumpy road
largely due to Covid-related supply chain disruptions that impacted the availability of spare parts.'
Electric vehicle sales are expected to continue rising as major brands continue to target the Australian market.
Chinese brands are closing in on established EV manufacturers with Australia's electric appetite extending to brands like BYD who surpassed Tesla as the biggest EV manufacturer in the world last year.
The federal government is also encouraging Aussies to purchase electric cars through different environmentally-geared policies.
However, hybrid vehicle owners will lose their ability to claim a Fringe Benefits Tax exemption on plug-in hybrids from April 1 2025.
Announced in October, a reclassification of the law will mean plug-in hybrids are no longer considered zero or low-emissions vehicles, but fully electric vehicles will remain eligible for the exemption.

Japanese retailer Muji – best known for its elevated yet minimal homeware
clothing and stationery – is holding the second Muji Food Market at Chadstone
following a wildly successful first pop-up in May
The market celebrates the arrival of new Muji Food Japanese teas and condiments, including yuzu salt and furikake, as well as the introduction of the Found Market, a collection of food products made by local brands such as Daylesford’s Kao Kao Miso
The Naked Asian Grocer will also be selling sustainably packaged customised ramen kits
Entry to the market is free, but RSVPs are required.
goes on display in MelbourneBuilt in right-hand-drive for the Australian market in Tennessee
the Lyriq is available to see in the metal in Melbourne's Chadstone Shopping Centre
+ 6 PhotosCadillac has today opened a pop-up store at Melbourne’s biggest shopping centre
displaying the first right-hand-drive example of its incoming Lyriq SUV to arrive in Australia
The Lyriq will be on display at Chadstone Shopping Centre next to David Jones on the lower ground level for the next two weeks, showcasing it to the public before it formally arrives in local showrooms towards the end of 2024
will be electric only and aimed at the luxury end of the market
General Motors Australia and New Zealand’s Director of Marketing
said there has already seen a wealth of interest in the Lyriq from potential buyers
but the brand has a lot to do to leverage the history of the name Cadillac
“We've got to launch a brand in Cadillac and also our product,” he said
“I think there's a great awareness of the brand in the market
but the familiarity probably isn't there around where we are heading to and we really want to redefine what luxury is over the next decade and really position Cadillac as that leading luxury brand in the marketplace
“There's a lot of work that we have to do around familiarity
I think the heritage that this brand has is strong in terms of its popularity from a cultural perspective
but also its credibility and people know Cadillac make great cars and where it sits from a luxury standpoint
So we'll leverage that and leverage the design cues
but then bring it into what we would define as modern luxury
“[The Lyriq] touches to the history of Cadillac as well
So if you look inside the dials and the rotary jewel in the middle are things that probably only Cadillac can get away with putting inside and there are touches to its history
the rear lights were actually designed as a tip of the hat to the traditional wings on Cadillacs as well
After leaving the market in 1969, Cadillac has twice attempted to make a comeback here – once in 2009 and again from 2015 – though both never made it to fruition
Mr Walker believes the timing is right in 2024
“Electric vehicle sales within the luxury segment are actually continuing to increase and that keeps us buoyant in market around the launch and the timing,” he said
"We think we're launching at probably one of the best times that we could potentially launch
the security and the excitement around Cadillac in the marketplace and our hand raisers have shown that as well
We’ve got thousands of hand-raisers that have wanted to see the car.
“I think one of the great things about the audience that we've got is there's people that know Cadillac and want to be a part of that journey
Cadillac fans – but also people that have put up their hand because of the marketing or the interest that they're showing because we did launch last November
so there's been a period of time that people have been able to discover the brand.
“We haven't opened orders yet but it does excite us that there's people that are wanting to put their money down immediately.”
Last week, Cadillac announced the location of its first Experience Centre in Sydney’s Engine Yards retail and lifestyle precinct
Soft launching at Chadstone “the fashion capital” is no coincidence either
with Cadillac looking to sit among other luxury brands to lure in buyers with cash to burn
or an “empty-nester” looking for an electric vehicle in the luxury segment that “isn’t too polarising” but who wants to make a statement by having something different from the norm
“As our first product in market it's a great vehicle for those that are coming across from an internal combustion engine,” he said
“It's not too polarising from a futuristic-looking point of view
“It's [also] a great vehicle for people that have had an electric vehicle previously and want to take that next step up into a more luxury segment
And I think if you look at the electric vehicle market that are true electric vehicle brands that are coming into the market
there's not too many that sit in that luxury space.
“The vehicle's obviously big enough for a family
but I wouldn't discount those that are empty-nesters or those that are pre-retirees that really want that luxury feel that want to stand out and want to extend their brand as they take it around to friends or host the grandchildren as well.
“And so I think it is a vehicle to place to multiple audiences
which is really exciting for us because there's no one type of buyer that we have to play to.”
Pricing and specification has not yet been announced for the 2025 Cadillac Lyriq, but it is expected to target Germans like the BMW iX and Audi Q8 e-tron that start at $130,900 and $153,984 respectively.
