Apparently, Chubb is drawing interest from another NFL team, and word on the street is that it's the Chicago Bears
who are definitely in need of some running back depth
how hard will the Browns fight to retain the four-time Pro Bowler
And is it really even worth it at this point
there was a time when Chubb was one of the most explosive offensive threats in football
He made four straight Pro Bowl appearances between 2019 and 2022
racking up well over 1,000 yards in each of those seasons
He hit his high-water mark with 1,525 yards during the latter campaign
a devastating knee injury that Chubb suffered in September 2023—coupled with the broken foot he sustained this past December—has absolutely torpedoed his career
It's an incredibly sad state of affairs
Chubb played in just eight games this past season
rushing for 332 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 3.3 yards per carry
It was painfully clear that his burst was gone
and with Cleveland selecting a pair of halfbacks in the NFL Draft
it's now time to move on from the fan favorite
and he will forever be remembered as one of the most talented offensive weapons to ever step on the gridiron for the Browns
But unless Chubb wants to return for the novelty of it and not actually get any touches
Cleveland is surely eager to move forward with a tandem of Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson in the backfield
There really is no room for Chubb at this stage of his career
The Browns have begun a quasi-rebuild this offseason
and keeping Chubb around just wouldn't make much sense for either party
Chubb should go somewhere he would actually have a chance to get playing time—like Chicago
It was undoubtedly a fun ride for Chubb in Cleveland
but the time has come for the Browns to part ways with the University of Georgia product
It's entirely possible that Cleveland has already reached that bitter conclusion

Gregory Moore at a hearing in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court in 2016.Marvin Fong/Plain Dealer
The arrest marked a stunning twist to a case that has gone unanswered for years
Prosecutors said Moore lured Sherman to the Stafford Law Co
An indictment unsealed Friday charges Moore with aggravated murder
“The Sherman family has waited over a decade for answers regarding their mother’s homicide,” Prosecutor Michael O’Malley said in a statement
He called Sherman’s death a “brutal murder.”
Police responded to a call about a screaming woman about 5:30 p.m
to find Sherman with injuries to her torso
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said the state’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation spent thousands of hours applying advanced technology to help solve the case
Moore had a history of calling in bomb threats to courthouses where he was scheduled to be in trial in order to delay proceedings
In 2017, Moore pleaded guilty to two counts of inducing panic and a misdemeanor count of falsification related to bomb threats and misleading statements he made to detectives during the Sherman investigation. He was sentenced to six months in prison
Shortly thereafter the Ohio Supreme Court suspended Moore’s law license
After Moore “and at least one other unnamed individual” learned he was under investigation
he hatched a different scheme to delay Sherman’s divorce trial
which he was unprepared for: He sought to kidnap her
The indictment includes messages between Moore and Sherman that show he summoned her to the law office
she repeatedly asked Moore when he would arrive before he eventually responded with a “been here,” according to the indictment
Sherman messaged that she was returning to her car about 5:22 p.m.
an individual who was either Moore or an unknown co-conspirator approached Sherman from East 12th Street
chased her … and then stabbed her over 10 times,” the indictment reads
Prosecutors said the man Sherman was seeking to divorce was not a person of interest and has since died
Moore had swiped into the law office about 3:51 p.m.
but he either did not enter the building or left prior to Sherman’s arrival
It says he returned to the building about 7:30 p.m
through an unobserved entrance and messaged Sherman after the attack to mislead investigators
a Stafford law employee deleted a voicemail left by Sherman without making it available to law enforcement
Moore told Cleveland police homicide investigators he was in his office when Sherman sent him the messages and walked down to let her in but she was gone
Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer attempted to reach the law firm
Court records showed no attorney for Moore on Friday
He’s expected to be arraigned in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court at a later date

After dismantling Cleveland at five-on-five in Game 1
Laval knew it had the advantage going into Game 2
This was a Monsters team that failed to beat the Rocket in regulation during the regular season
Fans and media speculated whether Cayden Primeau would retake his role as starter after his stint with the Canadiens
deservedly so after his 23-save performance in the opener
setting up quickly and confidently on their first offensive rush
They didn’t have to wait long before seeing a result either
with Jared Davidson cashing in a one-timer from the top of the right circle
thanks to a cleanly won draw from Florian Xhekaj
the Rocket got to the Monsters’ netminder early in this one
The goal went straight to the Rocket’s legs
with Laval probably committing to the body a little too much immediately afterward
Cleveland got a great chance right after the goal
with Laval chasing and scrambling in its own zone
The chance was a sobering moment for Laval
and the Rocket cleaned things up immediately
Laval got a flurry of chances with just over 15 minutes left in the frame
the nicest of which had Sean Farrell spring Owen Beck from the neutral zone for a one-on-one chance that Greaves barely stopped
The Rocket took advantage of the scramble created by Beck’s rush
with Logan Mailloux getting it back on net and Joshua Roy getting two chances to bang in the rebound
Logan Mailloux was noticeable early in the first
and continued to be throughout the game (he ended up a +1 with three shots on net)
as the defender took his first penalty of the playoffs; he led all Rocket defencemen in penalty minutes during the regular season
Cleveland’s first power play was dangerous
a blast from the point that Fowler handled
The Rocket didn’t give Cleveland a second to breathe
and were largely successful in creating turnovers leading to scoring chances
the Rocket took a defensive formation for the final two minutes of the period
content with shutting down scoring chances and flipping the puck to neutral ice
the Rocket received a gift from James Malatesta
who chose to insert himself into an altercation between Brandon Gignac and Sam Knazko after the final whistle
Malatesta received the only penalty on the play
I suppose he thought it was a worthwhile call while trailing in a playoff game and heading to the locker rooms
The Rocket only got one real chance on their period-opening power play: a shot from the left circle from Alex Barré-Boulet
Fowler had carved a circle around his net with several puck retrievals
Fowler had some work to do after the failed power play
flashing the leather on a slot shot from Malatesta and stumping the Monsters once again
with Lucas Condotta beating Greaves high glove off the rush just over three minutes into the period
Condotta was looking at Xavier Simoneau all the way
but I don’t think he had any intention of delivering the puck anywhere but the back of the net
Fowler would be tested again but stood firm
deflecting a golden scoring chance from Justin Pearson into the corner
The Rocket had taken their foot off the gas physically just a little
and Cleveland responded by finishing every check available
Florian Xhekaj certainly noticed the tone shift
he went right up to Roman Ahcan after a whistle and punched him a couple of times
picking up a roughing call and sending Laval to the penalty kill seven minutes into the period
The Rocket held the Monsters shotless for the man advantage
and Cleveland’s second effort looked marginally less dangerous than its first
Laurent Dauphin got a breakaway opportunity
but Monsters defenseman Hunter McKown saved the puck on the goal line
The Rocket could have easily had another three goals at that point of the game
Xhekaj continued to be a nightmare for the Monsters
toeing the line every shift and certainly causing more than his fair share of headaches (literally)
with both teams struggling to gain consistent
offensive-zone pressure and the Rocket got their third power play of the night with just over five minutes left in the second after a bench minor was called on Cleveland for too many men on the ice
I also thought he was fairly sound defensively for most of the game (ignore the clip further down as an example of this)
Laval wasn’t credited with a shot on its third man advantage
and Owen Beck got a great look from the left circle in the dying seconds of the man-advantage
the five-on-five possession they had right after the power play was both more organized and more dangerous than the power play that preceded it
Xavier Simoneau missed an open cage by inches after a great passing play
he took a tripping penalty just seconds later while battling for the loose puck behind the net with less than three minutes to go in the frame
Cleveland couldn’t really get anything going on its third man advantage of the game
and the game headed into the third with the Rocket leading 2-0
Cleveland was buzzing when the puck dropped for the final period
controlling play for the opening three minutes
forcing a turnover and giving Fowler a tough save through traffic
and by that point Cleveland had been cycling the zone for 80% of the period
It needs to be mentioned that Cleveland was in Fowler’s grill all night long
Cleveland alternate captain Trey Fix-Wolansky tailed Fowler to and from the bench in between whistles
presumably complimenting him on his performance so far
After Fowler’s next save on Stanislav Svozil
with Malatesta and Xhekaj unsurprisingly in the middle of it
Davidson and Joseph Lebate also picked up penalties
and everything ended up still at five-on-five
robbing Rocco Grimaldi with the glove in what was arguably the Monsters’ best chance
A great cross-ice pass set up the solid one-timer
That save from Fowler seemed to suck the life out of the Monsters
The Rocket would control the next minute of play and extended their lead by one more with 12:45 left in the third
then can only watch the puck soar over his shoulder into the net
Barré-Boulet is taking a nasty high stick in front of the net
Things got a little chippy midway through when Davidson and Denton Mateychuck (who’s got a heck of a mean streak
just don’t tell them that) took offsetting calls
capitalizing on lazy play from the Monsters
had been phoning it in for at least six minutes
I’m not sure if Laurent Dauphin wanted the shot or the pass
but the rebound was served on a silver platter to Gustav Lindström
Both teams had a few chances in the final minutes of the frame
Cleveland came alive once it was playing for pride
Fowler made five saves in the final four minutes of the game
including two unbelievable stops on Luca Pinelli
The one below was sensational with less than a minute left in his shutout bid
The Rocket closed the game out with maturity
as Montreal Canadiens coach Martin St-Louis would have said
They outshot Cleveland 29-20 and were inarguably the better team at the end of the night
but it was a team effort from Laval in Game 2
Laval will be back in action at home for Game 3 on Sunday
It’s unconfirmed whether Jacob Fowler will get the start
considering the netminder’s performance through two road games to start the series

Ohio (WOIO) - Gregory Moore was secretly indicted on Friday for the murder and kidnapping of Aliza Sherman
Moore was indicted on charges of aggravated murder
MORE: Who is Gregory Moore? Former divorce attorney charged for murder of Aliza Sherman in downtown Cleveland
Aliza Sherman was violently stabbed outside of her divorce attorney
MORE: Who was Aliza Sherman? Victim stabbed to death in downtown Cleveland; Divorce attorney charged
Sherman arrived for a meeting with Moore outside his office at 55 Erieview Plaza in downtown Cleveland for her upcoming divorce trial
Sherman was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead
the scheme to kidnap Sherman began on January 3
The scheme began because the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office was looking into Moore’s cell phone usage in 2012 when bomb threats were called into courthouses where Moore was supposed to be in trial
The indictment said Moore exhibited a pattern of delaying court appearances scheduled with bomb threats
The indictment said Moore purchased a new cell phone when he learned of the new investigation
The indictment said prosecutors believe Moore planned the kidnapping of Sherman to delay her divorce trial
though the it is unclear why Moore wanted to delay the trial and why she was ultimately stabbed to death
Moore and Sherman texted back and forth setting up their meeting outside Moore’s office
“If u are here why don’t you let me in?” one text from Sherman to Moore said
The indictment said Moore was not inside Sherman Law office at the time of the text messages
the indictment said either Moore or an “unknown co-conspirator” approached Sherman from E
and chased her from 55 Erieview to 75 Erieview
Moore or his co-conspirator then stabbed Sherman over 10 times
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Cleveland Police conducted the investigation
“Since receiving the request in June of 2021 to lead the Aliza Sherman cold case investigation
BCI’s agents have spent thousands of hours applying advanced technology and implementing investigative techniques to help solve this homicide,” Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said
and confidence in our investigation that led to today’s indictment and arrest.”
Moore previously spent six 6-months in jail for lying to detectives about being inside his office building at the time of the murder
He sent Aliza text messages before and after her death
released a statement to 19 News after the arrest:
I am overwhelmed with relief that we are finally getting justice for Aliza in her unsolved murder
I’ve always felt that Gregory Moore was involved with Aliza’s murder
19 News has reached out to Jennifer Sherman

It was a surprising result, after the Cavaliers — the wire-to-wire No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference — rolled through their first-round opponent, the Miami Heat
back-and-forth series; the Cavaliers recorded consecutive losses just three times during the regular season
Here are three things we learned from Game 1 of the conference semifinals series between the No. 4 Indiana Pacers and No. 1 Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavaliers sorely missed Darius GarlandIn a game in which the Pacers sprinted out in transition
point guard Darius Garland’s absence was palpable
Missing his third consecutive game with a toe sprain
Garland provides a counterpoint to Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton
Although Garland can be a liability on defense
his speed and athleticism would’ve helped diversify Cleveland’s offense
especially from 3; the Cavs shot just 23.7% from beyond the arc and snapped a streak of 91 games with at least 10 made 3s
but regression is likelyWith the tempo the Pacers unleashed Sunday
they were able to unsettle Cleveland’s defense
And when Indiana was able to put up clean looks from beyond the arc
a steep regression to the mean should be expected
and the Pacers were tied for a very respectable 9th this season in 3-point percentage
Though the stats for fastbreak points appear at first glance to be even — with the Pacers winning 15-14 — that was not reflective of the way Indiana relentlessly scooped rebounds and loose balls and galloped up the floor
The Cavaliers did far better in the second half at getting back and protecting the rim and rushing to close lanes in transition
Game 1 proved that one half will not be nearly sufficient against a team that ranked 7th in pace (100.76) in the regular season

so there could be a path for Donovan McMillon to find a roster spot
Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry addressed the defense with the team’s first two selections in the 2025 NFL Draft before turning his attention solely to the offensive side of the ball
That was an understandable strategy after the 2024 season, during which the Browns fielded some of the worst quarterback play in NFL history
Related: Browns Roster: 4 UDFAs who could make the roster in 2025
Still, the defense needs to perform even with an improved offense. And one of the biggest question marks on the defensive side of the ball is at safety
who is somehow already entering his sixth season with the Browns
Pitt safety Donovan McMillon is officially a Cleveland Brown. He talks getting signed by the Browns and what the Pitt program has meant to him @PghSportsNow. pic.twitter.com/gUsf9ZS2Na
since signing with the Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2023
has slowly worked his way onto the field more and more
Behind Delpit and Hickman is not much else at the moment, which is why Donovan McMillon, part of this year’s undrafted free agent class, could be a player to watch this summer, according to Nick Baumgardner at The Athletic:
203) played both safety spots and in the slot the last two years for Pitt
He ran a 4.46-second 40-yard dash with a 35-inch vertical and a 10-foot
McMillon broke up five passes and forced six incompletions last year
McMillon has the size to play the position at the NFL level, but also has “inconsistent instincts and execution” and is a player who will need “better consistency as a run stopper and tackler in the open field,” according to his draft profile at NFL.com
Donovan McMillon is a SS prospect in the 2025 draft class. He scored a 9.20 RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 99 out of 1228 SS from 1987 to 2025.https://t.co/zoGwxIJZn0 pic.twitter.com/qsn2QhSPDU
He did rank high in Relative Athletic Score
99 out of 1,228 strong safeties from 1987 to 2025
According to Dawg By Nature's Damon Wolfe
that level of testing makes McMillon the exact type of undrafted free agent the Browns covet
This isn’t to suggest that McMillon is a lock to make the roster
but given Cleveland’s lack of depth at the safety position
if he is willing to work hard on special teams
there could be a path for McMillon to see the field this fall

The Rocket struck first with a goal from Jared Davidson at 2:22 of the opening frame leaving the Monsters trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes
Laval’s Lucas Condotta notched a tally at 3:12 pushing Cleveland’s deficit to 2-0 heading into the final intermission
The Rocket added goals from Alex Barré-Boulet at 7:16 of the third period and Gustav Lindström at 14:32 pushing the final score to 4-0
Cleveland’s Jet Greaves stopped 25 shots in defeat while Laval’s Jacob Fowler made 20 saves for the win

The Indiana Pacers stunned the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 1 behind an all around dominant performance
The Cavs now have their backs against the wall
Grades are based on our usual expectations for each player
There was an A+++ version of Mitchell in this game
His huge third quarter put the Cavaliers back in front
He was pushing the tempo and forcing his way to the rim every other possession
It’s just the rest of the game that held him back
He ended the opening quarter with consecutive three-point attempts that felt rushed and finished the game 1-11 from deep
much of Cleveland’s offense in this game felt rushed
Certainly a product of not having Darius Garland available
A more patient approach from Mitchell would have been beneficial
He’s capable of running an offense better than he did tonight
His activity early on led to a few Indiana turnovers and Allen was effective when he caught the ball near the basket
The Cavs' double-big lineup will be tested in this series
in games where Indiana is burying shots at a near 60% rate from deep
Allen is a versatile defender for his position
but combining him with Mobley is leaving the Cavs behind Indiana’s offense
Allen and Mobley both looked better when they were the lone big in Game 1
His three-point shot-making has so far burned opponents who dare him to shoot in the playoffs
He finished 9-13 from the floor as Mobley worked his way into the paint for a few confident floaters
Mobley’s status as Defensive Player of the Year was one of the catalysts for Cleveland’s comeback run
His ability to anchor a defense paired perfectly with Dean Wade and De’Andre Hunter’s versatile perimeter coverage
I’m hoping to see more of Mobley at the five in this series
He was blocked on at least four floater attempts and his supreme confidence led to a handful of head-scratching three-point jumpers
One in particular stood out — when he pulled up in transition for an unnecessary jumper that took the wind out of Cleveland’s sails
I’ll give Jerome slight credit for converting a few shots that kept him in good graces for moments of the game
But the Cavs very much missed Garland’s playmaking
Jerome’s decision-making was totally off the mark as he repeatedly ran into a brick wall and was unable to deliver when the Cavs needed him most
Jerome will be important for this series and I expect him to play better
But this was a disastrous performance in Game 1
Merrill started in place of Garland again and outside of a bail-out three-pointer to start the game
He held his own against Tyler Herro in Round One but is already being abused by Indiana’s motion offense
This will be a tough series for Merrill to make himself impactful
This game was begging for a Strus explosion
His three-point shooting could have sparked a run if he had it going
the Cavs finished 9-38 from deep for their worst three-point shooting game of the season
He brings a level of intensity that you want in the playoffs
His rebounding was big and he created good shots in the few opportunities he handled the ball
Hunter’s pull-up three-pointer in the first quarter made it feel like this night would go differently
he only attempted one more three-pointer the rest of the game
Hunter was run off the line — and found success attacking the basket
His overall scoring output just wasn’t enough to make a difference
Indiana did a fine job keeping him contained on the perimeter
Hunter’s defense was a huge plus in this game
His versatiliy made him one of the most impactful defenders on the floor
It would have been nice for Wade to make a shot
But his defense was a legitimate game-changer
Wade stifled Tyrese Haliburton and Pascal Siakam at various points
scrambling to switch whenever one of Cleveland’s guards was stuck in a mismatch
Wade was brilliant on defense and should be an X-Factor for this series
Okoro looked good in this game when he was grabbing offensive rebounds or making simple drive and kick passes
He was a glaring weakness whenever Indiana left him open in the corner
Okoro has a clear place in the rotation if he can break even offensively
He was one of the only players (alongside Mobley
Wade and Hunter) who showed they could make a difference defensively in this game
Okoro’s ability to contain the point-of-attack will be valuable..
if he can just hit a dang three-pointer while doing it
TORONTO - Daniel Schneemann drilled his first career grand slam homer in the ninth inning to earn the Cleveland Guardians a 5-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday
Schneemann's second homer of the game halted Toronto's win streak at three games and wasted a one-hit, nine-strikeout effort over six shutout innings from Jays starter Kevin Gausman
With Cleveland (19-14) trailing 3-1, Schneemann's game-deciding blast came off reliever Yimi Garcia (0-1). Schneemann's eighth-inning solo shot was off Chad Green
After giving up a third-inning, two-out single to Steven Kwan before 40,507 at Rogers Centre
Gausman retired the final 10 batters he faced
Bo Bichette belted a leadoff homer for an early lead for Toronto (16-17)
The Blue Jays went up 2-0 in the third when Anthony Santander led off with a double and later scored. They added another on Tyler Heineman's sacrifice fly in the fifth
Cleveland starter Gavin Williams (2-3) lasted only four innings
He yielded two runs on seven hits and five walks with nine strikeouts
Kolby Allard (2-0) notched the win for his four relief innings
Guardians: Third baseman Jose Ramirez did not play after suffering a right ankle sprain Friday
Blue Jays: ESPN's Jon Heyman reported Toronto has signed veteran right-handed pitchers Spencer Turnbull, 32, and Jose Urena, 33. Turnbull hasn't pitched since last June because of an arm ailment. Urena made one three-inning appearance for the New York Mets last month
Bichette smacked Williams' first pitch into the left-field seats for the shortstop's first long ball since May 27
George Springer's fourth-inning strikeout ended a streak of safely reaching base in his first six plate appearances in the series
Bowden Francis (2-4) will start the series finale for the Blue Jays, while Cleveland will counter with Tanner Bibee (2-2)

Ohio – Cleveland Hopkins airport will have extra staff on hand next week to ensure a smooth start to the approaching deadline for Real ID
travelers flying within the United States will need to show a Real ID

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- Darius Garland is listed as questionable for the Cleveland Cavaliers going into the first game of their Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night
The All-Star guard is dealing with a sprained left big toe. He missed the final two games of the Cavaliers' first-round sweep of the Miami Heat after being out for the final two games of the regular season due to the same injury
Garland did not practice on Saturday after going through a full-contact session on Friday
Coach Kenny Atkinson said the status of the 6-foot-1
sixth-year pro will likely be a game-time decision
"We're just in this kind of area where you just got to kind of see day by day and see how it feels tomorrow morning," Atkinson said after Saturday's practice
Garland averaged 20.6 points and 6.7 assists during the regular season. He scored 27 points in the Cavaliers' 121-100 victory over the Heat on April 20 in the opening game of the series
Atkinson said Garland is likely going to have to deal with the injury for the rest of the playoffs
Sam Merrill or Isaac Okoro would get the start if Garland is unable to play
After a first round that was filled with tough and physical games
what are the best bets to make in the conference semifinals
Jim McCormick and Steve Alexander provide the bets they like most for each series
Odds are updated as of publication. For latest odds go to ESPN BET
I have argued with myself all season that the Cavaliers are not as good as their record
The Cavaliers are clearly a better and much deeper team than the Bucks
but the Pacers are also deep and won the season series against Cleveland 3-1
While the Pacers won the regular-season series 3-1 and finished 15-4 to close the campaign
expect Cleveland to outlast them in a competitive series
The Cavaliers team at full strength is significantly better than the Pacers and can beat them at their own style
but I could see them taking this series in five
Series correct score: Cavaliers 4-1 (+250)
A theme developed when looking at these Eastern Conference matchups; the higher seeds have massive advantages that will prove difficult to overcome in a long series
The Pacers have been a great two-way team for much of the calendar year
yet there is another tier of offense in the half court and in turnover-driven transition production from Cleveland that should overwhelm Indiana
This isn't just strategy; the Cavaliers have much more size and skill in the frontcourt and more depth and playmaking talent in the backcourt
The Knicks' lack of depth is a huge problem
but everyone is healthy and New York is a good road team
The playoffs lend themselves to short rotations and big minutes
and that means more time with their best lineup on the court
I see the Knicks winning at least twice in this series and pushing the series total to six or seven games
but I envision it closing the series with relative ease
Series correct score -- Celtics 4-2 (+400)
The Knicks simply can't score with this Celtics team over a full seven-game series
But the Magic were able to find success against Boston by closing everything out when possible and allowing them to live at the rim
There should be opportunities for the Knicks to make this a competitive series
but ultimately the Celtics' wave of wings and 3-pointers will prove too much
Over the summer, I predicted that the Thunder were going to win it all this year, and nothing I've seen thus far has changed my mind. However, any team with "Playoff Jamal Murray" and Nikola Jokic is a threat to not only win games
but I do like Denver to get at least one game
and the +175 seems like a reasonable payout if the Thunder can win 4-1
but five games feels like the smartest bet to me
but I'll be surprised if Denver gets that many wins in this one
Series correct score -- Thunder 4-1 (+200)
Building on Alexander's take for a five-game outcome
it's somewhat clear from betting markets that a short series is expected
A one-star team faces a juggernaut that is rested and ready to go
Jokic was astoundingly good against the Clippers and it still went the distance
there is a limit to the competitiveness of that model when faced with a Thunder team this deep
Series correct score -- Thunder 4-2 (+450)
The Thunder are the better team in this series, but the Nuggets have enough offensive playmakers to win a couple of games, especially with three-time MVP Jokic leading the charge. Denver's momentum from a Game 7 win over the LA Clippers could carry into an early home victory
and the Thunder might be rusty after a long layoff
defense and star power should better position them to win the series
This bet offers strong upside without the risk of backing the Nuggets outright
This will be added once the series is finalized. The Timberwolves will play the winner of the Houston Rockets/Golden State Warriors series
The Cleveland Browns entered the 2025 NFL Draft with plenty of quarterback uncertainty; Deshaun Watson is out indefinitely with an Achilles injury, and the top of the depth chart might be veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. The Browns needed to leave draft weekend with a quarterback — they left with two, in Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders
On the latest episode of the “Scoop City” podcast
Dianna Russini and Chase Daniel were joined by The Athletic’s draft expert Dane Brugler to discuss why the Browns taking Gabriel at 94 was such a surprise
A partial transcript has been edited for clarity and length. The full episode is available on YouTube below or in “Scoop City” feed on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
I want to talk about quarterbacks because that’s what I know — and that’s what you know
What was the biggest surprise pick for you
and then in my final mock draft I had the Giants trading up for Jaxson Dart
But it was interesting on Day 2 to see the order
We knew the Saints liked Tyler Shough a lot
after I reported a couple of weeks ago that he got an invite to the draft
there was a lot of buzz with people saying
he must have assurances that he’s going in the top 50.” But then he ended up falling to 92
it was a no-brainer roll of the dice for them
But Dillon Gabriel is probably the answer here
and he’s like a point guard in the way he operates
He’s a perfect example of how important spring is for quarterbacks
Because I had multiple teams telling me that Gabriel was the most impressive interview they did throughout the process
That’s the Senior Bowl and combine — he was the most impressive interview that teams did
It’s not a huge surprise when you talk to his coaches at UCF
He showed up at Oregon this past year in his minivan
and one of the reasons he has a minivan is so he has enough room to take his teammates places
That’s the kind of leader that he is and the kind of guy that he is
He quickly became the captain of that team
and with quarterbacks — you know this better than anyone Chase — it’s an intangible position
but how you operate behind the scenes is what led Gabriel to be a Day 2 pick
Chase: Speaking of what happens behind the scenes, obviously, there’s been a lot made of Shedeur Sanders’ draft fall
the second round is exactly where he should be.’ What do you think was the main reason he fell so far down draft boards
Dane: It’s the juxtaposition of what we just talked about with Dillon Gabriel
I heard you guys talk before about the recruiting process
you can’t go into this if you’re a prospect and think you have the leverage
There were only so many teams in for Shedeur Sanders in the first place
so the pool of potential landing spots was already small
and some of the other teams go with different quarterbacks
you’re talking about less than a handful of potential landing spots for you
We thought at one point maybe the Steelers in round three would take him
Then when we got to day three with the Browns
and I don’t think they had any intention of drafting him
no big deal.” It’ll be interesting to keep an eye on the Browns’ training camp and how this plays out
We’ve seen it before where teams carry four quarterbacks into the season
but it would be a surprise if the Browns carry all four of these guys in Joe Flacco
and then the two rookies in Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders
GMs and people in general talking around the league since the draft have been giving the media
and people who do what you and I do a hard time asking
“How could you guys be so wrong on Shedeur?” I’ve been pushing back because I don’t think anyone was wrong
I just think we didn’t have enough information about what happened in the spring
but I think teams were really trying to keep that private
And a lot of the people who were watching the film were just doing it based on his ability
which is why he was projected to go higher than he did
What would your response be to that when we’re getting pushback
“The people who do this for a living have been so off on the Shedeur Sanders story.”
Dane: I remember joining you guys back in the fall and saying
That’s not the type of player we’re dealing with here
That’s what the talent says.” If Shedeur Sanders had Dillon Gabriel’s intangibles
I 100 percent believe he would have been drafted somewhere in the top-50 picks
and I don’t know about you guys but the sources I talked to still thought someone was going to take Shedeur
So we’re going based on the information that we’re getting from teams
they still believed somebody in the NFL was going to take a chance on him
But it didn’t end up happening until much later than we anticipated
The biggest key here is the fact that there were so few teams at the beginning
were not going to do all the legwork needed on Shedeur because they didn’t need a quarterback
and he’s probably not going to make it to us at 64
So we’re not going to do all of the legwork required on a prospect like this.” There are a lot of teams that were just out because they didn’t anticipate even having to consider him in the third
The pool of teams that were potential landing spots was so few
and that really changed the whole dynamics of the situation

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Cavaliers said all the right things to the media about the Indiana Pacers last week, from a repetitive, almost droning on about how quickly they get up and down the court, to insisting Tyrese Haliburton is anything but “overrated.”
Nembhard had every bit as much to do with the Cavs’ 121-112 home loss to Indiana in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals as Haliburton did; for it is Nembhard who leads the Pacers’ surprising pressure on the perimeter that led to so much of what went wrong for Cleveland on Sunday
he went 5-of-6 from 3,” the Cavs’ Donovan Mitchell said of Nembhard
and he damn near (averaged) a triple-double against the Celtics
when he’s able to give them that … it’s huge
and he’s able to get in there and create.”
The numerical damage was such: Nembhard led all Pacers in scoring with 23 points
added 22 points with (checks the stat sheet again) 13 assists
But the pain they inflicted on the Cavs runs deeper than the statistics suggest
but he was noticeably pressing Cleveland’s ballhandlers and working hard to bother any perimeter shooter near him
Mitchell was also right that Nembhard did indeed have a big playoffs last season
though the best he did against the Knicks in the conference semis was shoot 3-of-4 from 3-point range
and he was nowhere near averaging a triple-double in the conference finals against Boston (21 points and 7.8 assists are close
Nembhard made himself a lot of money with the Pacers by shining like he did last year in the playoffs
especially with Haliburton out for much of the conference finals with a hamstring injury
going for 32 and 24 points in narrow losses
Nembhard is 6-foot-5 and possibly remains underrated because he plays next to Haliburton
who is a two-time All-Star and an Olympian
But when you hear about the “pace” at which Indiana plays
Nembhard has as much to do with it as the point guard Haliburton
because he speeds you up when you have the ball
which allows the Pacers to get out into the transition game they want to play
When you see the Cavs were 9-of-38 from 3-point range
and Indiana took too many open shots en route to shooting 19-of-36 from deep
and you begin to understand where the lopsided 3s in favor of the Pacers started
getting into passing lanes and putting a hand in the face of Cleveland’s normally solid shooters
Haliburton doesn’t just score and create; he also moves the ball ahead to teammates as soon as he gets it
This is part of the “pace” with which Indiana plays
which starts on offense with Haliburton throwing it ahead to a teammate who’s already made it to the frontcourt
that’s when Haliburton utilizes screens and those open lanes Mitchell mentioned to attack
“I think it’s not only the pace of their speed
and Tyrese is a master of just … he’s like a hockey distributor
and that’s hard,” Cavs coach Kenny Atkinson said
and I think we struggled not only with their pace
The Athletic’s anonymous NBA player poll
in which dozens of players were asked a bunch of questions and granted anonymity so they could speak freely
had Haliburton as the league’s most “overrated” player
The Cavs vehemently refuted that idea in the run-up to Sunday’s Game 1
They genuinely seemed to view Haliburton as one of basketball’s preeminent playmakers
the Cavs pointed to Indiana’s “pace” as a primary concern heading into the series
But being aware and prepared is not the same
Cleveland may have known what was coming in Game 1
you don’t practice at that pace,” Mitchell said
this series opener was a pretty bad one for the No
Darius Garland missed his third consecutive playoff game with a sprained big toe on his left foot
Atkinson continues to stress that it’s a day-to-day thing
an injury that has gone on for more than a week
It’s not quite into Jarrett Allen territory with the rib injury that cost him most of last year’s playoff run
despite being listed as “questionable” for every game
but it was pretty clear all week that Atkinson doubted Garland would be ready to play
De’Andre Hunter was knocked out of the sky on a transition dunk attempt by Bennedict Mathurin and dislocated a finger
Evan Mobley stepped on Myles Turner’s foot and rolled an ankle
was hobbling around as though he suffered a leg injury
Cleveland felt it made some halftime adjustments that helped (down by 12 in the third quarter
the Cavs regained the lead a few times before a brutal final three minutes cost them the game)
the opinion shared by players was that poor offense led to worse defense
Atkinson started Sam Merrill again in Garland’s place
Isaac Okoro nor Ty Jerome could quite match Nembhard’s effectiveness and impact
A healthy Garland gives the Cavs two dynamic scoring threats at the guard position
Perhaps getting the ball in the hole more often and knocking down more 3s takes away Nembhard’s chances to shoot 70 percent from the field like he did Sunday
But it’s a safer bet that there is something schematically that Cleveland will have to do to account for him
and only a few teams in NBA history have won a championship with two small starting guards
What happened in Game 1 does not suggest the Cavs will fail in their pursuit
but it demands a more balanced and forceful performance from their guards
Because Haliburton and Nembhard crushed them on Sunday

TORONTO - Gabriel Arias's two-run single was part of a three-run fourth inning as the Cleveland Guardians beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 Sunday in the rubber match of a three-game series
The Blue Jays (16-18) replied with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the fourth
but their bats then went silent for their second straight loss before 30,641 at Rogers Centre
After Daniel Schneemann, who hit the game-winning grand slam on Saturday, doubled in a run, Arias sharply singled to right to score Carlos Santana and Schneeman
Arias scored the game's first run in the third inning thanks to an Angel Martinez base hit off starter Bowden Francis (2-5)
surrendering four runs on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts
Guardians (20-14) starter Tanner Bibee (3-2) departed during his warmup pitches for the sixth inning with leg cramps
He yielded two earned runs on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts
After a Jose Ramirez error ignited the Blue Jays' fourth-inning rally, Andres Gimenez delivered the big blow with a two-run single
Reliever Brendon Little walked three Guardians in the ninth to lead to a final run. Emmanuel Clase earned his seventh save despite a throwing error and sacrifice fly to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the ninth
Guardians: Steven Kwan made a fine running catch in the left-field gap on Bo Bichette with one out and one on to save a run in the third inning
Blue Jays: The home side only had two hits in the final five innings in the series finale after being no-hit in the final four innings on Saturday
Anthony Santander worked Bibee for a 12-pitch walk to load the bases in the third inning. But George Springer smacked a fly ball to centre field for the third out
Kwan belted seven hits and drew a walk in the series
The Blue Jays have Monday off before hitting the road for three-game sets against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday and the Seattle Mariners on Friday

Gambrell snapped a scoreless deadlock with 1:55 left in the second period and then added another goal 7:32 into the third before Roman Ahcan
Jet Greaves (3-2) made 18 of his 36 saves in the final period to earn the win in net
When facing elimination over the last two postseasons
Greaves is now 4-1 with a 1.66 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage
Laurent Dauphin scored the only goal for the Rocket
breaking up Greaves’ shutout bid with 6:34 remaining
