The official opening of St Josephine Bakhita Catholic Primary School in Clyde North was attended by over 100 people
from new students to teachers and local members of Parliament
attended and led by the Catholic Bishop of Sale
Most Reverend Greg Bennet and Very Reverend Denis O’Bryan
the official opening also served as a commemoration of St Josephine Bakhita
the saint after which the school was named
opened the mass by welcoming over 100 people who were in attendance
“It’s absolutely amazing to see the whole community come together and really unite,” she said
“We’ve got a really diverse population here so seeing the acceptance from everyone and the warm welcome that everyone’s got
considering that we’re in the building phase
but they’re all keen to get into the school and they want to be part of that foundational community.”
Pepper added that throughout the coming years
the school will be able to accommodate over 700 students
not just for them but for the residents and their children to receive “quality Catholic education for all families”
and that is our way to be inclusive,” she said
The school recently accepted 64 new preps into its fold
with allotments for 2026 already filling up as 100 preps are ready to be taken in for the next year
State funding for the second stage of construction has been confirmed and was also announced during the ceremony
This second stage includes eight new classrooms
a dedicated STEM room and a basketball court
expanding for what principal Pepper said would be the school’s growth of 100 new preps every year
South-eastern Metropolitan MP Lee Tarlamis
and former Victorian Deputy Premier and current Victorian Catholic Education Authority chair
all sharing their support of growing education in a growing suburb
Richards acknowledged the breadth of new schools that have opened in Clyde North in the last year
saying that “it’s important for our students to gave the facilities that they need and deserve”
it’s also for our educators to give these top-notch education facilities
“This is integral in making sure that the said facilities are here as growing families and emerging communities arrive,” she said
seeing as that the City of Casey and Clyde North harbour fast-growing communities
“This is one of the fastest growing dioceses in the country and we’ve got a responsibility to make sure that we can provide that Catholic school education for local parents looking for it
and in partnership with the Victorian Government and supportive parents
Tarlamis always sees the growth of schools alongside new suburbs as essential
considering that it is where the youth “learn their values and prepare them for what comes in life”
“It’s really our foundational support and values they learn that is important
people-purpose modern schools that have all the facilities they need in that growth is key
but having that diverse offering for those who want that Catholic education is important too,” he said
The mass saw the younger students who were sat at the front take an active role
from delivering the communion to the Bishop
to being directly addressed during the sermons
went around the numerous classrooms and blessed them with Holy Water
The finale involved the cutting of a red ribbon and the unveiling of the school’s official plaque
the director of Catholic education and ceo of the Diocese of Sale Catholic Education Limited
said that it was “exciting” to be able to attend the opening ceremony
“This is exciting in terms of opportunity for Clyde North and its community
to have a school that will support those looking for Catholic education,” he said
With a waiting list already filling up for their classes

Local business owners on a greenfields estate are slamming a government body that has tried to close off access to their car park
as part of a long-running easement dispute
The attempted restriction by the Victorian Desalination Project (VDP) would have meant the business owners and their tenants at 1 Radon Court in Clyde North would not be able to access their carpark at the rear of their property
An easement is a legal right to use part of someone else’s land for a specific purpose
It allows the VDP access to a nearby Ausnet high-voltage electricity transmission line
which is approximately 48 metres in length and 10 metres in width
bridges the front and the car park at the rear
The car park serves recently built warehouses at the front of the site
Warehouse owner Victor Vp was appalled when he was notified by his tenants in the morning of Monday 14 April that a huge crane
The crane was eventually removed after Victoria Police came that day
Vp had been having back-and-forth discussions with VDP
and Climate Action (DEECA) since March on the usage of the easement
A crowd of more than 20 community members showed up on the Monday to support Vp
a proposed Hindu temple and other business owners in Radon Court and Palladium Circuit
who will also be restricted from building car parks due to the easement
The Ausnet easement runs through a series of adjoining lots
The crane also intended to block access to the rear of those lots
the representative for the proposed Hindu temple next door
said the temple would need a carpark at the rear
and it was too late to stop them from doing that
after building and setting up businesses and now people want to park their cars
We’ll give it to you based on the market rate.”
DEECA has required the business owners to comply with the easement usage requirements
These included no parking within the easement
no vehicles greater than 5 tonnes permitted to cross the easement except with permission
and no stockpiling or storage of materials within the easement
VDP issued warnings to Vp in March this year
claiming that “apparent” breaches of the requirements occurred
VDP claimed that new rock fill was placed on the easement
and an excavator appeared to be working there from 19 March
resulting in a crushed rock path laid over it
vehicles were observed crossing over the easement to access the rear carpark
VDP demanded the owner cease any existing and future activity in breach of the easement rights
which included the vehicle crossing to access the rear carpark and justified the dispatching of the crane on Monday
Vp denied there were encroachments on the easement
and all contractor works had strictly adhered to the conditions imposed by DEECA and Casey Council
“We hold all necessary permits and have complied fully with the development approvals granted,” he said
Vp said the ban on the cross-over on the easement was just ridiculous
as it would render the carpark useless with no alternative access in place or even feasible
VDP suggested an arrangement with the Casey Council
which might be able to approve access at the other side of the carpark
but Vp said there was no further action following the promise
“We have independently approached the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP)
but DTP does not support an alternative access route,” he said
“The City of Casey also advised against access from Australorp Drive (at the back of the car park
a DEECA spokesperson said there are strict rules around activities that can be undertaken on top of underground power easements
failure to follow the rules can put individuals and the wider community at risk
“The unauthorised work is being conducted is on top of the power connection for the Victorian Desalination Plant
which is critical to delivering affordable
safe and secure drinking water to Victorians,” they said
The department noted that critical power supply equipment runs underground through an area in Clyde North to deliver electricity to the Victorian Desalination Plant
It provided written notice to the local landholder on 8 April and the leaseholders on 10 April that AusNet could exercise its right to protect the easement
The department shared that AusNet Services had tried to work with the landholder for alternatives to working near the easement or avoiding the easement and accessing the back of the property from another without impacting the protected zone
Vp said: “We have no issue with them (Ausnet and VDP) upgrading or maintaining their assets
“Our request is solely for access to our properties

An ironic nightmare in Clyde North occured in early 2024 when a residential fire just opposite the undelivered Clyde North Fire Station destroyed eight garages and one townhouse in early March
When owners realised the proximity of the could-have-been-there fire station
they were left wondering if the reality would be any different
The damaged site on Spartan Avenue was less than 400 metres from the proposed station site
FRV’s Cranbourne senior station officer and United Firefighters Union delegate
said at the time that if the Clyde North Fire Station had been built
it would have significantly minimised the property loss
He recalled that it took some 10 minutes for the fire trucks to arrive on the scene
which was unacceptable by both FRV and CFA standards
“By the time the fire trucks arrived on the scene at 8.21am
one townhouse and damaged seven others,” he said
one of the union members for Cranbourne Fire Station had talked with the paper about his frustration at the failure to deliver the promised fire station as it posed operational difficulties to Cranbourne Fire Station
The proposed Clyde North Fire Station was first identified in 2009
FRV announced the site for Clyde North’s fire station nearly four years ago
which would be situated on the corner of Matterhorn Drive and Thompson Road
it was estimated that work was expected to begin in 2021 and finish in 2023
By the time the Clyde North fire engulfed the houses
who lost the townhouse her family had been residing in for only two years to the fire
told the paper that she remembered when she called Triple 0
it was mentioned there was a nearby fire station
She later searched for the nearby fire station and saw there was a plan for a fire station just one road across her house
“But that’s been a long-time plan,” she said
“I was surprised when I read that piece of information
I think this party has failed the people of Clyde North because this has been like a plan for the longest time for a fire station to service Clyde North.”
Berwick MP – and now opposition leader – Brad Battin commented at the time that immediate action had to be taken to finally get the emergency service infrastructure built in Clyde North before more events like this occurred
we are no longer talking about what could happen
but what is happening due to the absolute failure and incompetence of years of Labor government’s inaction in Clyde North,” he said
An FRV spokesperson said at the time that the planning for Clyde North Fire Station was complete
“FRV will communicate a timeframe for construction once it is established
FRV and CFA continue to ensure the local community is provided with a high level of service,” they said
Clyde North has received another boon to its future Springleaf Avenue Recreation Reserve following a $9.2 million fund from the State Government
the federal government announced over $129 million for 26 projects in the city and surrounding suburbs
with the Doveton Pool in the Park Revitalisation Project also receiving $7.4 million for its second and third stages
regional development and local government minister Catherine King said that it’s “all about building better cities”
with the projects getting funding across Victoria set to increase the community cohesion
community facilities are the backbone of connected societies – and they’re becoming increasingly important,” she said
titled the Springleaf Active Open Space Development
will see the greenfield site transformed into a multi-purpose sporting
recreation and green space facility complete with accessible fit-for-purpose amenities
This will include two AFL and cricket ovals
Senator Jess Walsh added that projects to “uplift our cities and suburbs are needed now more than ever”
“I am pleased to see the Australian government is providing this funding for our community
“I’m thrilled to see this funding flowing to a range of local priorities
like Springleaf Active Open Space Development to take them off the drawing board and make them come to life,” she said
situated adjacent to Springleaf Avenue in Clyde North is also surrounded by one of the fastest-growing estates in the suburb
with Berwick Springs Estate looking to home a future town centre
and in close proximity to a number of schools
according to the most recent 2021 Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) census
with 10,537 of these people living in the northern end of the suburb
Working ages between 15 to 64 also make up the majority of the northern end of the suburb
Stefan Koomen said that on behalf of the city
“I would like to thank the Federal Government for supporting our community”
“It’s fantastic to partner with all levels of government to deliver these amazing facilities and better outcomes for our residents,” he said
It was also announced in October this year
that the Raleigh Springs Village shopping centre has been approved and is expected to open by early 2026
with major retailers such as ALDI and Woolworths alongside cafes
medical facilities and other amenities to be present

A former Clyde North woman reportedly accused of arson and property damage against her housemates and landlord is facing additional charges at the Victorian County Court
Tsai-Wei Hung appeared by video link with an interpreter during a committal hearing at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 11 February
She pleaded guilty to three counts of criminal damage
one count of burglary as well as a summary charge of driving in a manner which was dangerous to the public
These property damages also extend to the garage roller door
a 2011 Honda Jazz and a 2007 Mazda 3 sedan
the count of burglary detailed that Hung entered the premises as a trespasser with intent to cause damage
Hung had reportedly pleaded guilty to charges including arson and property damage
The five further charges were part of an alleged “course of conduct with the same victims“
The court noted Hung’s custody management issues – a risk of self-harm
and her vulnerability in custody due to her age and/or appearance
She had limited English and was diagnosed with depression
Hung was remanded in custody to appear at a plea hearing at the County Court on 19 May
Berwick and Beaconsfield brigades were paged to a reported house fire on Grices Road
VicFire advised that a large number of calls were being received for a structure that was well alight and that a large contingent of people were gathering outside the historical homestead on Grices Road
Based on the further information and the large glow that was visible from some distance away
Berwick Captain Craig Sanderson made an escalation for two pumpers
three tankers and all trucks to proceed Code 1
Upon Berwick Pumper’s arrival on scene
it was evident that the iconic and historic building located on the homestead was fully alight and threatening buildings to the east of the structure
With further resources arriving on scene shortly thereafter
crews donned breathing apparatus and worked to extinguish the fire and protect the exposures
including tall overhanging trees above the structure
crews also utilised three separate water sources to supply Berwick Pumper and Beaconsfield Pumper-Tanker and this included a hose lay by Narre Warren Pumper from some distance away to support Berwick Pumper’s roof monitor
Approximately 40 firefighters worked for an hour to bring the fire under control with multiple BA crews working into the evening to conduct extinguishment
salvage and overhaul operations with multiple 38mm hose lines and thermal imaging cameras utilised to locate hotspots within the property
With extended BA operations into the night
Bayswater BA support unit was responded to assist with the refilling of approximately 25 BA cylinders and cleaning of BA masks on scene to support firefighting operations
RDO 8 and Victoria Police were notified of the event and the cause is being investigated.
Power Company and Gas Company also attended
The Incident Controller was Captain Sanderson and the Operations Officer was Lieutenant Obeth both from Berwick Fire Brigade
The Water Sector Commander was Lieutenant Goodman from Narre Warren Fire Brigade

Tributes are flowing in for a father and son who were fatally stabbed at a child's first birthday party in Melbourne's south-east on Thursday night.
Social media tributes are pouring in for a father and son who were stabbed to death at a child's first birthday party in Melbourne’s south-east on Thursday night.
Karl Gruber-Terrick, 23, and his 54-year-old father, also Karl, were killed when a brawl broke out at the birthday party.
Witnesses heard a loud altercation inside the Clyde North home about 9.30pm, prompting an emergency services response.
Homicide detectives revealed about 20 people had gathered to celebrate a child’s first birthday when an argument broke out at the party.
The disagreement quickly escalated into a brawl, which spilled out onto Observatory Street when Mr Gruber-Terrick and his 54-year-old father were stabbed.
Paramedics attempted to save the father and son, however, they were declared deceased at the scene.
Detective Superintendent Janet Stevenson said the two men were closely related to the toddler whose birthday the group was celebrating.
Tributes have flooded in since news of the pair's death broke, with the younger man a beloved member of the Fitzroy Stars Football Club.
“The Fitzroy Stars Football & Netball Club send our condolences to Margaret and the Gruber Terrick family,” the club said in a Facebook post, which has surpassed 600 reactions and the comment section has flooded with grieving friends and family.
“We are grieving the sudden loss of one of our much loved playing members who was a true gentleman at our club, wore his heart on his sleeve and let his footy do the talking.
“We also send our condolences to his team mates and all those close to Karl. Rest in peace.”
Loved one, James O'Dwyer, also posted a touching tribute to the younger victim.
“I will never forget our memories together that we shared and that we were so close to each other we become inseparable," Mr O'Dwyer said.
“You were my brother, my rock and someone I could always rely on. I will miss you Karl, and I pray that I will see you again in Heaven. I love you with all my heart.
“I will always remember just how happy you were when you found out I wrote a song for you and how you could never let us be together and not listen to it, my prayers and condolences go out to my Aunty Margaret and Rebecca and Jasmine and all the Terrick mob I love you all.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam/CCTV footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.

Clyde North local and auctioneer Andy Reid has just launched his first book last month
wishing to help people build better connections with their vision of success
explores the common challenges people face in their careers
and personal lives and aims to provide tangible and practical steps towards self-improvement
who spent a lot of time volunteering in the local soccer club
has a portfolio of high performance and chasing success: Australian auctioneer of the year 2022
director of an auctioneering company servicing more than 130 different real estate agencies throughout Victoria
unlike many personal development authors who like to insert their success stories to constantly prove their strategies
Andy tried to be invisible in the book and only showed up when necessary
believing that the book was not about him but about whom he could help
“I’m the least important person,” he said
It has been out of a professional habit as an auctioneer
“You got a vendor whose biggest asset is being sold
You got a buyer who’s making a massive decision in the context of their lives
You’ve got a real estate agent whose reputation in future business is relying upon it,” Andy said
and that’s what puts me into a flow state
“When I can wire it in my head for it to be about everybody else
The Clyde North local admitted that the chase for success sent his mental health into the drain
which was the reason he initially wanted to write this book
He became curious about the concept of success
he thought he could now articulate quite well on what he found to help others
“I’ve been lucky in whatever I’ve been doing in my life
It’s not like I’m the best thing ever
“When mental health really got a grip on me
and I knew that I had to change as a human because I was in denial almost
“It was almost like I had to chase success to make up for how bad I was feeling at times
“One of the best things I ever did was become a student myself
the psychology around emotion and all that sort of stuff
the student was hoping to find evidence to disapprove a lot of commonly known things around success
but only to find out everything out there is correct
If everything out there about success that everybody knows about is right
“The easy answer is to tell is because it’s hard
the theory around being successful has been around since Ancient Greece,” he said
“But we’re looking at it the wrong way
and this is the biggest thing I’ve learned
The problem is not that it’s challenging
The problem is the gap in connection between the knowledge and the identity of the human being.”
The book further explores potential answers to the question and other elements of success
Each chapter begins with a question that people ask about success
and Andy tells a story related to his life
Andy hopes this book can actually help to make every version of success more accessible
“This book is not going to tell you something you don’t already know
but it might help you feel that what you do know is actually half achievable,” he said
As motorists paved their way through the newly opened Bells Road
Stefan Koomen and Dillwynia Ward councillor Anthony Walter took time to marvel at the new arterial passage
six-kilometre road connecting Clyde North and Berwick has since served as a critical passageway and has been crucial in easing congestion on the main path of Clyde Road
Looping through O’Shea Road to Heather Grove
it has effectively replaced the former Soldiers Road which was notorious for its congested t-intersection
especially with neighbouring schools during peak hours
Koomen acknowledged not just the local residents’ concerns
but motorists who frequent Clyde Road on its congestion
it’s a big boost for our local road network”
“We want to say a big thank you to our local residents for their patience while works were taking place to get this new stretch of road opened up
“We think it was worth the short-term pain of road works to get Bells Road opened up
to support our growing community and make travelling to work
Local councillor Walter echoed the same sentiments
saying that there is an “extreme importance” in Bells Road
especially considering that “at any time during rush hour
to be able to get down to O’Shea Road and onto the freeway much easier
Koomen added that advocating for further works to be done in the area
“The Thompsons Road extension and the connection between Officer and all the way to Pakenham is one of our most vital road links
it’s been on the forward plan for many years
“We’re advocating to all levels of government for the federal election coming up,” he said
provides an alternative route for residents to travel between the northern and southern ends of Casey
which previously met delays due to gas pipeline works
now also supports new bus routes that service the greater Clyde North area
Building on the importance of future upgrades to Thompsons Road
Walter agreed that the removal of the roundabout is a “major topic”
that’s going to help divert the traffic when the construction begins to get those traffic lights up,” he said
the vision has always been to ensure that there is infrastructure that accommodates the growing needs of newer areas in the city
Mayor Koomen said that these roads “have been planned”
but it’s “just about getting on with it and delivering them”
“We want to work with all levels of government to make that happen
and Thompsons Road is a particularly important link for employment precincts
it’s about getting people home quicker to be with their families
and it’s an absolute priority for this area,” he said
adding that there needs to be more motions on being “proactive and less reactive when it comes to city planning”
“Maybe instead of just making two lanes for a road
The Federal Government announced its $41.75 million investment in the upgrade of the Thompsons Road Intersection in Clyde North on Saturday 22 February
The project will upgrade the intersection of Thompsons and Berwick-Cranbourne Roads
replacing the existing roundabout with traffic lights and completing associated works to the bus bays and shared user pathways
The upgrade will increase capacity and improve traffic flow at the congested roundabout by installing additional through lanes and dedicated turning lanes
It will also improve safety and enhance freight productivity by cutting time off the freight trips around Melbourne’s south east
The project will deliver new walking and cycling paths to improve connections through the area
along with upgrades to several bus stops near the intersection
The Federal Government and the State Government are jointly funding the project
with the State Government already committing their half
according to a media release from Federal Minister for Infrastructure Catherine King
Construction timeframes will be determined in consultation with the State Government
Ms King said: “We’re building Australia’s future
investing in Victoria’s road network to make it safer and more resilient
“Unlike the Liberals and Nationals who starved the Victorians of infrastructure funding
we are investing in projects across the state
“There are more than 110 active major projects across Victoria and the Albanese Labor Government is getting on with delivering all of them.”
Holt MP Cassandra Fernando said she was pleased that she had been able to successfully advocate for this crucial road upgrade
“This $41.75 million investment by the Federal Labor Government will ease one of our community’s worst bottlenecks
making daily commutes smoother and safer,” she said
“This means less time on the roads and more time spent with your family.”
Bruce MP Julian Hill said Victoria was totally screwed for a decade by the Liberals on infrastructure funding
“The Federal Labor Government is treating Victoria fairly
and fixing this terrible intersection is a community priority,” he said
“Numerous locals have raised it when I’ve been doorknocking in Cranbourne North
so I’m pleased to champion funding to fix this.”
The suburb of Clyde North has finally welcomed its first mobile cell tower which was installed on Thursday 25 July
after years of residents’ connectivity struggles
The new tower marks a significant stepping stone for the local community and is one of the many steps in the Connecting Victoria campaign
Situated in the corner of Ramlegh Park Reserve
the mobile coverage is more than just a welcome sight
with the suburb and surrounding areas battling a lack of connectivity since residents first began settling around 2017
Advocating for better infrastructure within growth corridors like Clyde North in the southeast
Mr Galea recently addressed the addition at a 31 July legislative assembly meeting where he called on the Minister for Government Services for further development following the installation
“It should not be up to the state government to step in where the private telco market has failed
but that is what we have done – step in,” he said
“We are not prepared to allow people in this area to be without mobile reception
so it is great to see this first tower up and running.”
Mr Galea also added that residents in Clyde North have been waiting for telcos to realise the need for these towers
and as part of the Connecting Victoria campaign
it’s “about stepping in where there are those lapses
the telcos would have already gotten these towers into place years ago
but there’s always space for us to do something as well
to help fire that investment to get these tower projects up and running
because the more we wait the harder it is on the people in Clyde North,” he said
Principal Linda Corcoran said the new tower is a boon not just to residents
but especially to facilities and services such as themselves
“It’s vital that people are able to communicate with each other and that has been a serious issue for many years in this area,” she said
Touching on specific benefits towards the school
we were reliant on mobile phones for that communication
whereas I know other schools use mobile phones
“We still have some concerns; I’m with Telstra for example and I have great service now
but other staff are with Vodafone or Optus and their connection hasn’t improved at all,” Ms Corcoran said
adding that staff and parents alike have had multiple
repeated issues of getting in touch with one another; internet cutting off
the families are all connected with us and we have this platform where we put all of our information,” she said
the previous lack of connection made it difficult for the website to be accessed
where on other occasions parents who were waiting for their children are seldom able to get in contact with others outside of the facility
“They had to walk outside or go to the road to call someone
so I think this is a big thing for the community,” Elsee said
and even they have to go outside to make calls
and even for myself whenever I’m working on the computer it would suddenly just stop connecting
Mr Galea is passionate about the needs of suburbs such as Clyde North
“it’s a booming and growing area and there are a lot of investments going in”
While big conversations could be had about the possibilities for infrastructure investment in the vicinity
to not have mobile connectivity in such a populated area as Clyde North really isn’t good enough”
“There are a lot of growing pains that we’re experiencing
particularly in these pockets of the outer southeast,” he said
Mr Galea also added that there are a number of other investments happening in not just Clyde North
but surrounding areas as well; which range from co-funding with local councils on local projects such as transport expansion and more
as well as the addition of a number of schools in the near future
Mr Galea thinks that what is being observed is that “we’re throwing all this investment in and we’re still barely keeping pace”
“So what’s really important as well is that we continue to grow our suburbs
but we grow with them in a way that’s much more sustainable
“That comes back to the state-wide approach to planning
is currently doing a lot of round tables across the state to reshape the planning framework,” he said
He also added that while the growth of the outer suburbs is exponential
“too much” of it is being “carried” by them
“The outer suburbs continue to grow but they need to do so at a much more sustainable pace
“We need to be looking at having conversations about density in those inner and middle ring suburbs
better planning [on] some regional centres as well
“That way we are still having that growth in the outer suburbs
but doing so in a way that we’re actually keeping pace with the services and infrastructure that people need as they move in,” he said
A new Catholic primary school is coming to Clyde after the Bishop of Sale announced that it will be named after the Blessed Carlo Acutis who will be canonised in 2025
This was done in partnership with the St Thomas the Apostle Parish and the Bishop
making it the third Catholic primary school within the Parish
The first stage of the school is planned to open in 2027
at 121-123 Bellavita Avenue in Clyde was visited by parish priest Very Reverend Denis O’Bryan EV was enthusiastic about the construction
“The naming of the school after Blessed Carlo Acutis – a young Italian gamer and computer programmer known for his acts of kindness and devotion to the Eucharist will set the charism of the school for future generations,” he said
Father Denis was accompanied by the Director of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Sale Paul Velten and DOSCEL General Manager of Infrastructure and Support Services Dermot Cannon
who passed away from leukemia at the age of 15
utilised his media skills to work on projects to share the faith with a younger audience
embodying the values of compassion and dedication,” Father Denis said
Mr Velten said that new Catholic primary schools are needed in the rapidly growing areas of Clyde and Clyde North to cater for families seeking Catholic education for their children
“The existing St Thomas the Apostle Primary School at Cranbourne East has experienced significant demand with some 700 student enrolments,” he said
“Our second Catholic primary school in the Parish – St Josephine Bakhita at Clyde North has just been completed and set to open in January 2025 to serve the eastern part of the parish.”
Victorian Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Minister for Medical Research
Ben Carroll MP confirmed the application under the Victorian Government Capital Funding Program 2023-2027 for $6 million
The first stage of the construction will include eight general learning areas
site works and building services related to a green field site
Construction is planned to begin this year and is expected to be completed in 2026
Mr Velten added that the development of new schools is an example of the DOSCEL and the Parish community’s commitment to investing in infrastructure that “provides a nurturing and faith-filled environment”
As the fringes of Clyde and Clyde North grow
and with people always comes the love of sport
The local Clyde Cougars Junior Football Club was established in 2020
and after four years catering to the young ones’ aspirations
have recently announced their first official seniors’ division
with a women’s team also set for the 2025 season
said that considering that it has only been relatively recently that women have kicked off in the football space
“being able to provide a community place for women to come in
be comfortable and the facilities to train is amazing”
“Being able to have such an amazing facility here is fundamental
being able to funnel up with the juniors is going to be great,” he said
former Tooradin Ward candidate and Co-Proprietor of TerryWhite Chemmart has been announced as one of the sponsors for the club
“We know health and wellbeing isn’t just about physical health
but also mental health and belonging,” he said
“Creating more opportunities for women to participate in competitive sport is a cause worth getting behind
it’s good to look out for each other and look after one another.”
Tassone added that considering that many of these people who enjoy the sport are frequent visitors of the chemist
the least that they could do is show the same kind of support
The women’s team is still in the process of recruiting

Two men from the same family have died after being stabbed during a wild brawl outside a birthday party in Melbourne
A Melbourne family has been rocked by the deaths of two men following a wild brawl at a birthday party in the city's south-east.
The Homicide Squad is investigating after the two males - aged 23 and 54 - were fatally stabbed outside a home in Clyde North on Thursday night
They had been celebrating a birthday at an Observatory Street property when the jubilant scenes involving about 20 people suddenly turned violent
an argument has occurred and that's escalated into a brawl that's spilled out onto the street," Superintendent Janet Stevenson told reporters.
two men have been stabbed and they've both died at the scene."
Supt Stevenson confirmed the two men were family members from Seaford but their exact relation to each other is not yet known
all those in attendance at the birthday were known to each other
with the deceased "closely related" to the occupants of the home
You can just imagine how that family feels now
It should have been a great celebration but it's just a dreadful ending," Supt Stevenson said
Investigators are still trying to piece together how the stabbings unfolded
including who was responsible for delivering the fatal blows.
Police have spoken to some witnesses but investigators are attempting to track down a number of people who left the scene before officers arrived
"Some people left prior to police arriving and we really need to speak to those people so we can piece together exactly what happened here last night," Supt Stevenson said
especially for this family who's now grieving after losing two of their members
(that) we really need to sort this out very quickly
Police will also trawl through CCTV from the surrounding area for any clues as to how the incident unfolded

The suburbs of Clyde and Clyde North have welcomed Christmas early after the installation of yet another cell tower
the tower at 36 Bells Road in Clyde is a much-welcome addition for the residents of the suburb and surrounding area after the notoriety for unreliable mobile connection has grown over the years
which improves TPG and Optus coverage for over 8000 premises and delivers an 18-kilometre-squared upgraded outdoor 4g and 5g coverage
“We know the communities of Clyde and Clyde North have struggled with poor coverage in the area for some time – by supporting these new towers we are providing residents and businesses with better connectivity,” Williams said
the State Government has also backed the construction of two Telstra mobile towers in the area
one in Ramlegh Reserve in Clyde North and another in Berwick Springs in Narre Warren South
General manager of wireless access for TPG Telecom
said that they are proud to be part of the Connecting Victoria program and “helping to boost mobile connectivity for homes and businesses across the state”
“Initiatives like these are a big step forward in making sure our communities have reliable and high-quality mobile coverage to support their work
said that they are “delighted to play a key role in the Connecting Victoria Program”
“Unlocking greater opportunities for Victorians and enhancing connectivity for communities across the state
high-quality network coverage that empowers Australians to thrive in every aspect of their daily lives,” Grool said
Telstra regional manager for Eastern Victoria
said that these new towers are a “great example of what carriers like Telstra and the Victorian government can achieve by working together to bring new connectivity to regional locations”
The Clyde North tower and the Narre Warren South tower provide roughly 7.6 square kilometres of combined outdoor 4g and 5g mobile coverage across more than 6700 premises
This new tower provides much-needed support for local businesses such as Alana Taylor Photography
who previously only took enquiries and bookings via email due to the unreliability of mobile connection
who previously had not been able to communicate with customers through the phone
said that “the poor mobile coverage has been a significant challenge”
“Until now I’ve taken enquiries and bookings via email only because the mobile coverage has been too unreliable to do it by phone
but for my clients – many of whom are new parents who need quick and easy communication – that hasn’t been ideal
“Better mobile coverage will not only streamline how I run my business and improve client satisfaction
it’ll also make life easier for everyone in this community,” she said
Michael Galea was present during the previous instalment of the Clyde North tower
and has been a vocal advocate for more coverage in parliamentary discussions
“I know firsthand how frustrating the lack of mobile reception in Clyde North is,” he said
“That’s why I’m so pleased the government has stepped in to deliver these much-needed towers after a decade of neglect.”
around 153 eligible premises in Clyde now have access to high-capacity fibre technology
also funded nine mobile projects in Clyde and Clyde North with Telstra

Ms Bosdorf said she was preparing for it to go up to $600 this year
Things would start to get uncomfortable if it went up much more than that
Mr Bosdorf’s former mouldy rental in Cranbourne West was making her and her partner sick
yet they still incurred rent rises in their five years of living there — like many other tenants across Melbourne
She said the amount she pays in weekly rent had almost doubled in the past 10 years
but her salary had increased nowhere near the same rate
Clyde North is available to rent for $700 a week
Clyde North’s median rental price for a house is $600 a week
forecast to grow by 7.2 per cent in the next 12 months
she added that her and her partner paid only just below 30 per cent of their combined income on rent — the threshold before being considered to be in rental stress
Suburb Advice data forecasts Clyde North’s median rental price for houses to increase from $600 a week to $643
Ms Bosdorf said there was going to come a point where they just couldn’t afford rent rises and would have to give up living in a house and move to a unit

A Victorian local council has welcomed the pending addition of school bus services ahead of the 2025 school year
new bus services will commence in the City of Casey
connecting students in Smiths Lane Estate in Clyde North to the new Wulerrp Secondary College on Clyde North’s Soldiers Road
The Victorian government has confirmed another school bus service will be added in the second term of next year
connecting students in the Smiths Lane and St Germain Estates to Berwick’s Kambrya Secondary College
minor changes are being made to the existing school special services in the area to provide additional capacity for students attending Clyde Secondary College
City of Casey mayor Stefan Koomen says the council recognises that its growing population needs more investment than ever before
“The extra services and changes will provide more students along these routes with better access to public transport to get to and from school,” Koomen says
“Our current population of more than 400,000 residents is forecast to grow to more than 550,000 by 2041
The City of Casey is committed to advocating the Australian and Victorian governments for the critical projects and services our community needs
“Accessible public transport for our community is essential
we continued to advocate for infrastructure and service investments to support our growing community
“We were also pleased to hear that the Victorian government’s Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution (GAIC) funding has been allocated for an extended bus service on Bells Road
and a bus service extension to Clyde North via Hardys Road
“Council will continue to advocate for more buses to run more frequently to connect our city’s growing communities.”

Amy Bignell purchased a house in Frankston at the end of 2024
taking advantage of the suburb’s new-found affordability
A drop in home prices last year helped Amy Bignell snap up a house in Frankston following years of being priced out of the suburb
After buying her first home in Clyde North as a stepping stone in 2015
it was only following the pandemic when values along the coast fell that she was able to return to where she grew up
The 43-year old said her move to Clyde North had been her first time living away from the beach

“I did not like being away from the beach and my work is across on the Peninsula as well,” Ms Bignell said
“I got really sick of the commute after not having to do it during Covid
It’s about an hour each way with traffic.”
Ms Bignell managed to snap up a three-bedroom home on a huge block of land — an upgrade from her former Clyde North home

She added that by the time she started looking for a new residence
prices had fallen across the Mornington Peninsula and its fringes
“I was looking elsewhere because I didn’t think I would get onto the Peninsula,” she said
“But the prices did seem to drop for me at about the right time.”
PropTrack data shows Frankston’s median house price is $730,000 and has decreased 8.6 per cent from $798,687 in the year to December
while a typical unit costs $510,000 and is down 13.1 per cent from $586,882
The four-bedroom house has a $700,000-$740,000 — around the suburb’s median house price of $730,000
Ms Bignell said she managed to buy a three-bedroom house in Frankston — the same amount of bedrooms she had in Clyde North
“It’s almost 600sq m and I was on 350sq m I think
so yes I was able to get bigger land than what I thought,” she said
Buyer’s advocate Andrew Pereira said after a few years of home prices declining
he believed significant interest rate cuts could soon help increase property values in the region again

Two suspects have been arrested following the death of a Clyde North man when his body was discovered in the Yarra River earlier this month
Detectives from the Missing Persons Squad arrested two males on Monday 21 October
after two warrants were executed at residential addresses in Collingwood and Melton South
The 22-year-old Clyde North man was located in the Yarra River in Melbourne’s CBD around 4pm on Tuesday 1 October
after emergency services were called to reports of the victim’s body
Investigators alleged that shortly after 1am on 30 September
the 22-year-old victim left a licensed venue on Flinders Street in Melbourne’s CBD
He then had a conversation with a group of males where it is believed an altercation occurred; investigators do not believe the parties were known to each other
The Clyde North man was punched and elbowed in the head before he ran from the scene; he was then chased by two of the men
Just before 2:50am the victim jumped into the Yarra River in what is alleged to be an effort to escape his pursuers; he managed to scramble onto a jetty before once again falling into the water and subsequently drowning
An 18-year-old Collingwood man and a 16-year-old Melton South boy were both arrested and interviewed by police

The State Government has given the green light to 22,000 jobs in Officer South
but there is one crucial hurdle to overcome before the expansion of industry in the South East
The Officer South Employment Precinct Structure Plan (PSP) lays out the town’s transformation from sprawling paddocks to one of the shire’s largest industrial centres
paving the way for an expected 22,000 local jobs
as the major leaders in the South East have known for years
the full development is limited until Thompsons Road is extended from Clyde North through Officer South to Pakenham
the project is one of the many core issues Cardinia Shire Mayor Jack Kowarzik will be raising with prospective or incumbent MPs
Close to 70 per cent of Cardinia residents leave the shire for work
many of them have no choice but to join regular peak-hour congestion
The council welcomes the PSP approval but is eager for the Thompson Road extension as it would be a significant one-two combo for “fostering high-skill local job opportunities and cutting congestion.”
“This means our residents won’t have to rely solely on the Monash Freeway to access well-paid
The extension is laid out in the PSP to alleviate increasing bottlenecks through the freeway and Princes Highway
much of the heavy vehicles will have alternative routes to Dandenong
Port of Hastings and even a future South East Airport
Officer South will be a central link between the industrial and commercial areas stretching from City of Casey through to Pakenham
A 2022 report by planning consultants REMPLAN said that between Casey and Cardinia
more than 80,000 jobs would be unlocked by the extension
A further 60,000 would be created by increasing demand on supply chains and consumption to total an injection of $58 billion to the economy by 2060
Greater South East Melbourne Councils (GSEM) has led the charge on Thompson’s Road for many years
Chair Simon McKeon AO welcomed the approval of the PSP
for this precinct to realise its full potential
Thompsons Road needs to be extended and upgraded,” he said
The South East Melbourne Manufacturers Alliance (SEMMA) said the promise of Officer South is not just “jobs”
but “higher-skilled and high paid careers”
and SEMMA members are embracing advanced technology including AI
3D printing and building on the skills we have to ensure we have a Future Made in Australia,” SEMMA CEO Honi Walker said
The precinct stretches south from the freeway to Patterson Road and the majority of land zoned for industry resides in the southern half of the precinct where a close arterial road is crucial for a sound investment
“Thompsons Road extension is not just a road – it is the arterial that will give our regions’ industrial economy the lifeblood to attract new business
innovation and most importantly – people,” Walker said
paved and painted pronto so we can prosper.”
Infrastructure Minister Catherine King said the Federal Government has been investing in Pakenham roads through the many current or recently finished projects – when it came to Thompsons Road through Officer South
King left the matter in the hands of the State Government
“We work in partnership with State Governments and should the Victorian Government identify the extension of Thompsons Road to Kooweerup Road in Pakenham as a priority for future investment
we would consider funding through the usual Budget processes,“ Minister King said
the State Government announced they will upgrade the roundabout of Thompsons Road and Berwick-Cranbourne Road into a signalised intersection in collaboration with the Federal Government
the Gazette asked Premier Jacinta Allan if this could pave the way for the extension
“We always have discussions with the Federal Government about how we can secure support for really important road projects,“ Premier Allan said
“Of course doing this work provides for further opportunities to look at what more we could do into the future.“
The 2022 REMPLAN report estimated the budget at $785 million while stating that there is “$4.40 in benefit for every $1.00 of cost“ for the extension
Cardinia Shire Council is asking for Governments to dedicate $900 million to the project
“This initiative is about creating a more vibrant and diverse local economy
By facilitating job creation closer to home and reducing commute times
we are directly benefiting our residents and businesses within Cardinia Shire,” Mayor Kowarzik said

“These facilities are such a critical piece of the Berwick Waters puzzle and we’re so excited that residents will now have the opportunity to educate their children without having to leave their community,” she said
Zeljka Lenart said that her family couldn’t wait for the opening of the new school
“My family and I are very excited for the opening of Turrun Primary
together we’re embarking on this exciting journey with our children and the community,” she said

Communities beyond Cranbourne still feel left out of train access with the continued silence on the Clyde Rail Link
while a new station has recently been built not far away in East Pakenham
Growth areas Clyde and Clyde North have a current population of over 40,000 and are expected to have just under 110,000 by 2031 – yet these towns still lack a train station
said one of three people coming into the office would ask about the potential Clyde Station
The fledging estate along Pattersons Road is eight kilometres away from the Cranbourne Station
which would take residents about an hour to go by bus
the only public transport option in the area
it’ll be four kilometres from us,” she said
we have to say to our clients we don’t have any details around the Clyde station
recommending them go to the Cranbourne Station
“Even if you are driving to the Cranbourne Station
I think it’s about a 20-minute drive from here
A 10-minute drive to a Clyde Station would be a lot nicer.”
The estate now has 200 lots with a total of 1100 lots projected
Surrounding estates also have thousands of lots in the pipeline
With the demand and growth remaining strong in the area
Ms Davey believed that a Clyde Station would no doubt benefit the residents
Casey Council has long been advocating for an extension of the line to Clyde
Casey’s plan pitched a duplicated line across about 5 kilometres with three new stations: Cranbourne East
With a then-estimated cost of $1.5 to $3 billion
the State Opposition put down a commitment of just under $1 billion if elected in the last election
With the Liberal party failing to achieve Government
the project has largely fallen to silence since – with the State Government yet to even hint at the prospective extension
Ms Davey said that the envisioned Clyde Station had now almost become a running joke
“It’s actually pretty awkward because we do actually have the fact that there will be a future Clyde Station on a lot of our printouts
and then people will ask about the timeframe,” she said
“It creates a level of awkwardness for us in the explanation
and we’re having to turn to a running joke pretty much
“Just a running joke about when the Clyde Station will arrive.”
The Pakenham Line recently added the East Pakenham Station
which currently services a precinct with approximately a thousand residents – but is made in anticipation of the over 8,000 expected to live in the new suburb by 2031
Residents beyond Cranbourne are questioning when the Clyde Rail Link will serve a much more established area with an existing considerable number of residents
Public transport advocate and former Department of Transport bus planner Peter Parker believed that Clyde absolutely should get a rail extension along with improved buses
“Preparatory work has been done at Cranbourne
to make it logical that Clyde should be next
there are no significant difficulties to it happening
All it requires is a political commitment and funding,” he said
“The current government is beset by budget blow-outs and has borrowed heavily
“It is heavily committed to existing big projects like the West Gate Tunnel
I suspect its appetite for further big projects is limited
especially with concerns over funding for other areas like health
“If the government wants to announce rail for Clyde
I guess that they’ll hold off until nearer the 2026 election campaign.”
Mr Parker said from a purely patronage point of view the new East Pakenham station didn’t seem to currently make much sense
he noted that the add-up of the new station served operationally important purposes
“The Pakenham Line has both Metro and V/Line trains
That can have knock-on effects across Melbourne
Having trains sharing tracks or having to wait for other trains also makes it harder to schedule frequent timetables needed to ensure capacity,” he said
“East Pakenham Station is the most publicly visible but the least important part of that project
The really important part of it was reconfiguring all the tracks at Pakenham
This has many benefits including allowing trains to cross without delay and helping Metro trains turn back
That delivers better reliability and potentially frequency
“Another factor was that the HCMT trains are already stabled further east
Thus there was already overhead wiring at East Pakenham
being linked with the Metro Tunnel project it was probably an easier sell to government.”
Shadow Minister for Public Transport Matthew Guy said the State Government had ‘wrong priorities’
but while the state government pumps every dollar they have toward the Suburban Rail Loop
this vital link won’t be built,” Mr Guy said
“The state government has the wrong priorities as they focus on a $50 billion suburban rail loop for areas that already have trains and forget those like Clyde who don’t have any trains and badly need them now.”
The lack of commitment may be more than priorities
but factors of conservation may have the State Government’s hands-tied
the area of the old rail line in Clyde has been designated as a conservation area to be taken over and retained by the State Government in the future
the area is deemed to project such species as the Maroon Leek-Orchid
A potential project will likely involve duplicating the line
to Grassy Plains Network Facilitator Adrian Marshall it seems unlikely that both projects can be mediated
“Old roads and cemeteries have really good conservation values and places like the old rail line are some of the best areas for grasslands
“There are real values there and south east of it is really good habitat which it connects to
but as they would more than likely duplicate it they would have to smash the area.”
City of Casey chair of administrators Nolene Duff PSM said the Council had been advocating for the Clyde Rail Link for many years and continued to seek a commitment from the Federal and State governments to construct the duplicated rail extension from Cranbourne to Clyde
“This project is key to alleviating congestion on roads
and connecting the growing communities of Cranbourne East
Clyde North and Clyde to essential services,” she said
“The project also aligns with climate action goals
and will provide greater access to Casey stadiums and the new Cranbourne Community Hospital.”
Ms Duff said the estimated cost by the Council was now $3 billion to $5 billion
double the evaluation before the last election
“The Casey community have shown a strong desire to see this project start
and while the Council estimates a cost of $3-5 billion
the project will deliver hundreds of jobs and stimulate the local economy,” she said
“The Clyde Rail Link represents an opportunity to create a lasting legacy for the southeast region and act as a catalyst for positive urban renewal that reinvigorates and connects communities.”
a Victorian Government spokesperson said: “We invested $1 billion to upgrade the Cranbourne Line
including removing level crossings and delivering a full duplication of track between Dandenong and Cranbourne – by 2025 the Cranbourne line will be completely level crossing free
paving the way for more trains more often.”
“We are focused on delivering on our unprecedented investment in public transport including the Metro Tunnel
which will be the biggest transformation of the rail network in 40 years and deliver better services for the south east.”
The City of Casey’s first meeting on Tuesday 18 February was cut short after continued disruptions from the assembly
After answering all registered 63 public questions
the council managed to go through two officers’ reports for consideration before Mayor Stefan Koomen officially adjourned the meeting
The first report for Casey is to endorse the proposed notice of motion for telecommunications in growth areas and to proceed to the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV)
as well as a motion for early years education
the agenda looked for Casey to call on the MAV
to consider cellular telecommunications networks as an ‘essential service’
especially in new residential and commercial estates
There was also a motion for the MAV to request the State Government to consult with the council’s Best Start Best Life (BSBL) reforms
and issues that have been identified that will prevent Victorian children from having access to two years of funded kinder
Both motions were carried unanimously by the council but were echoed by protests of “no” from the assembly
Akoonah Ward councillor Scott Dowling first motioned the topic
seconded by Tooradin Ward councillor Jennifer Dizon
Dowling said “I think it’s an excellent motion
it’s looking after our young kids and the future of our society”
who said that she had been in touch with residents from in and around Clyde and Clyde North said that “residents have mentioned that they couldn’t even contact triple 0”
Cranbourne Gardens councillor Michelle Crowther
saying that “we are heading for a crisis in Casey kinders”
“Currently we can’t service our maternal health needs
in terms of appointments and there are also 100 children this year missing out on 4-year-old kinder,” she said
Casuarina Ward councillor Kim Ross also showed her support for the Early Years motion
adding that “given the high percentage of children aged zero to six years
and the need for support for them and their parents”
The second item of discussion was the road discontinuance of Sofra Road/Bells Road crossing at Clyde North
with officer Kathryn Seirlis saying that the motion was to finalise a small discontinuance of a section of the road
The reason was to make room for the desalination pipeline “at the request of the State Government and Melbourne Water”
“We went through public consultation for the proposal and got no submissions
so we recommend for this to be endorsed,” she said
Environment and Climate Action requested for Casey to discontinue to road ‘for the purpose of minimising the road reserve at the intersection of Sofra Road and Bells Road’
This would mean that the water supply easement could increase in size
with Dillwynia Ward councillor Anthony Walter moving the first motion of support
followed and seconded by Correa Ward councillor Gary Rowe
it was at this point that the gallery had risen in volume again
with mayor Koomen asking for the public to “show some respect to your councillors as they speak to the motion”
He gave the final warning with no reaction from the people and adjourned the meeting
The other motions in the agenda that were not touched on included the 2024-2025 Growing Suburbs Fund applications
for the Hallam Community Learning Centre expansion
Courtenay Ave and Hoystead Ave Reserve District Playground upgrade and Doveton Neighbourhood Learning Centre renewal
with $330,000 from the council and the other $330,000 from the Growing Suburbs Fund on the Hallam Community Learning Centre
The Reserve saw an estimated cost of $1.5 million
with $750,000 from the council and $750,000 from the fund/
the Doveton Learning Centre saw an estimated cost of $926,000 in total
with $463,000 from the council and $463,000 from the fund
The final officer report on the agenda included the Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution (GAIC) Fund Applications
with the council looking to submit applications for three active transport projects
This included the Graves Road shared user path in Akoonah Ward as the first priority
with 650 metres of shared pathway to be considered from Liara Boulevard to Domain Drive
the path would see safer walking and cycling routes along a 70-kilometre-per-hour arterial road
with $246,675 from the council and $246,675 from GAIC
The second priority would be the Berwick-Cranbourne Road and Clyde-Five Ways Road roundabout shared user path
with a proposed 800 metres of shared path network around the roundabout
also improving pedestrian and cyclist safety
this requires private land consent for a small section
with $307,450 from council and $307,450 from GAIC
the third priority was the Ballarto Road footpath in Cranbourne Gardens Ward
which would see a 1.5 metre footpath to connect existing footpaths between Houlder Avenue and Riverwood Drive in Junction Village
The estimated cost is $164.450 with $82,225 from the council and $82,225 from GAIC

With congestion being at the forefront of every local resident’s mind
Clyde North remains a suburb yearning for other arterial pathways
South-Eastern Metropolitan MP Michael Galea highlighted the issue following a parliament meeting on 19 June where he said he had heard from residents that both Thompsons Road and Soldiers Road are “no longer fit for purpose” in a fast-growing area
While he acknowledged that Casey Council had been undergoing the process of extending Bells Road through to Thompsons Road
he expressed his concern on these works’ delays
“As a user of the roads in the area myself
I know firsthand how much of a traffic nightmare the intersection of Soldiers Road and Thompsons Road has become,” he said
which runs north of Thompsons Road and south just after Soldiers Road
would serve as the crucial link for residents to access O’Shea Road and the Monash Freeway but has since hit delays due to complications with a high-pressure gas transmission line
While the intersection at Bells Road and Thompsons Road has been completed
further works are on hold as APA Group identified further requirements for the mentioned high-pressure gas transmission line that passes through the construction zone which was identified in May
Casey’s manager of growth and investment Kathryn Seirlis said that it is understood by council that the locale is currently experiencing congestion in the area on daily commutes
and that “is why the Bells Road extension project is a significant… priority for council”
council is working with APA Group and other relevant Victorian Government agencies to achieve a timely resolution in order to proceed with works
with council officers regularly assessing Soldiers Road’s condition and taking appropriate measures to maintain functionality and safety
Bells Road will relieve the pressure on the surrounding road network by offering an alternative north-south arterial road for commuters travelling through the residential estates developing in Berwick and Clyde North and an additional connection to the Monash Freeway,” Ms Seirlis said
The current intersection is home to Hillcrest Secondary College and neighbouring Rivercrest Primary School roughly 700 metres west of the former school; soon
it will also house the Clyde North Secondary School after it finishes construction in early 2025
Thompsons Road serves as the only main pathway from Berwick-Cranbourne Road and Clyde Road to the newer estates of St Germain and Smiths Lane
with a more roundabout method available through Hardys Road
the situation on the roads can be summed up in one word
I used to drop my boy to school and it was only showing a nine-minute drive
but it would take me more than an hour to drop him off and come back.”
It is not uncommon for vehicles in Soldiers Road to be backed up to Hillcrest College’s third gate at peak school hours in the morning and afternoon
covering the roughly one-kilometre stretch until late in the afternoon
local traffic coming from St Germain and Smiths Lane turns into Soldiers Road with more traffic from Thompsons Road roundabout doing the same
ultimately resulting in an uncontrolled T-intersection
A completed Bells Road would see a continuation of the intersection at Thompsons Road just before the Soldiers Road link
connecting with Huckerby Drive just east of the bend at Hillcrest Secondary College and running straight through to O’Shea Road
“The State Government is doing its bit as well
we have invested in the forthcoming works to significantly upgrade the Thompsons Road and Clyde Road intersection,” Mr Galea said
He also added that there will be additional funding for new bus services in the suburb
which will see an extension of both the 831 and 798 bus routes that “will significantly improve and alleviate congestion in the long term as well”
“But in the near term this is a major traffic issue which is causing grief for my constituents
and I call on Casey Council to finish these works as soon as possible,” Mr Galea said
the wait goes on; having lived in the area for just under two years
the congestion had her questioning the decision to move
and during that time and because of the traffic
I’d need to leave the house earlier and put my child in before school care
“They are telling people that this is going to happen
Ms Seirlis said that “council is currently responding to these additional requirements”
“This section of Bells Road cannot be completed until these requirements are resolved.”
