Parma will have to postpone their celebration of Serie A safety
as Gabriel Strefezza and some truly shocking finishing gave Como victory
While Cesc Fabregas and co were already safe, the Ducali needed one last push to be mathematically sure of Serie A status
Valentin Mihaila and Gabriel Charpentier were just some of the injury absentees
See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.
as Patrick Cutrone’s weak finish was straight at Zion Suzuki
while Jonathan Ikone’s acrobatic back-heel flick was over the bar from a Maxence Caqueret cross
Suzuki got down quickly for a fantastic one-handed reaction save to keep out the Marc Kempf header on a corner
Parma wasted a golden opportunity to take the lead moments later
as Ange-Yoan Bonny managed to squirm to the by-line and flick it back off the outside of the boot
only for Mateo Pellegrino to blast over from six yards
The hosts came out fighting for the second half
a crucial Maxi Perrone block preventing a tap-in on the Antoine Hainaut pull-back
then on the resulting corner Pellegrino’s header bounced off the ground and onto the crossbar
Emanuele Valeri couldn’t get enough on the ball as he came sliding in to meet a Hainaut cross at the back post
while Nico Paz forced Suzuki to fingertip a very long-range scorcher over the bar
Como really should’ve taken the lead on 72 minutes when Ikone sprung the offside trap and sent Suzuki to ground with a shimmy
as Valeri tried to return the pass to Jacob Ondrejka rather than go for goal and the move fell apart
ITALY – MAY 03: Nico Paz of Como competes for the ball with Emanuele Valeri of Parma calcio during the Serie A match between Parma and Como at Stadio Ennio Tardini on May 03
(Photo by Alessandro Sabattini/Getty Images)Moments later
as Douvikas sprung the offside trap on a ball over the top and his awful first touch turned into an accidental assist for Gabriel Strefezza to sweep home from nine yards
The hosts simply should’ve equalised in stoppages when first Dennis Man forced a tricky save from Jean Butez from the edge of the area
then ran into the box and was ready to tap in the roll across from the left from six yards
forcing another Butez save and seeing his rebound deflected over by teammate Delprato

A dramatic Parisi fireplace incorporating floral wallpaper at Villa Bolgiana
Villa Bolgiana's intriguing main staircase features a colour scheme and diamond-shaped handrail
A built-in bed and bedside drawers by Parisi at Villa Bolgiana
A string of sculptural sanctuaries by architect Ico Parisi on the banks of Lake Como helped cement the area as the heartland of Italian modernism; we explore his work in an article from the Wallpaper* archives
It is the centre not because it has the most modernist buildings
far from it – but simply because Como is where the architect and designer Domenico Parisi
Parisi studied in Lausanne and then moved to Como in 1935
where he swiftly established himself as one of the area's key architecture and design scene movers and shakers
Parisi joined the studio of Giuseppe Terragni
an ambitious promoter of strict rationalism
local modernist pioneer and designer of the (in)famous Casa del Fascio
Terragni laid firm foundations for modernist Italian architecture
but Parisi took his work to new heights after the war
Como made regular appearances in Italian architecture magazine Domus
thanks to several significant design exhibitions that took place there – including the 1957 show 'Colori e Forme nella Casa d'Oggi' (Colours and Forms in Today's Home)
for which husband-and-wife team Ico and Luisa Parisi designed a holiday home concept – as well as the construction of a string of local modernist residences
Como's Sant' Antonio apartment block and Villa Bolgiana were both designed by Parisi and are both
highly representative of the architect's approach after the war
He and his then-wife-to-be Luisa Aiani established their La Ruota studio in 1948
committed to incorporating all fields of art into a single design expression
are characterised by a fine integration of sculpture
Situated in the narrow lanes of Como's Monteolimpino neighbourhood
along with three other Parisi-designed residences
Villa Bolgiana is a first-class example of the architect's typically lyrical style
It takes the formality of Terragni's pre-war designs and makes it more human
shifting architecture away from being a 'machine for living' and more towards a fine-art form of hedonistic enjoyment of life that reflects both the international organic design styles of the time and the Italian post-war optimism
infused with a hefty dose of local atmosphere
Villa Bolgiana and the three neighbouring villas
were all constructed between 1951 and 1953
Luisa and architect Giampaolo Allevi worked towards a Gesamtkunstwerk ('total work of art') exercise; the complex not only works with its surroundings
but showcases a series of artistic collaborations in the form of the villas' unique
escapism and design stories from around the world direct to your inbox
Parisi's furniture is perfectly documented at Villa Bolgiana
overhung cornices and freestanding architraves create a dynamic
expressive structure reminiscent of South American villas from the same period
Parisi's villas are further enriched with sculpture by the likes of Fausto Melotti
Mario Radice and Francesco Somaini (his abstract ceramic plates still feature in the villa)
an abstract painting panel by Mario Radice
and a colourful staircase with its flowing wooden ribbon of a bannister are just a few of Villa Bolgiana's intriguing features
in which the architect lived until his death in 1996
provides a unique insight into his entire body of work
from the early post-war modernism days to the radical thinking of the 1970s and 1980s artist-philosopher
situated at the top of his Sant' Antonio block and reached by private elevator
at the time of Wallpaper’s visit in 2011
who religiously kept her relative's legacy almost untouched
'I attempt to preserve the atmosphere of my ingenious great-uncle
There are many of his paintings on the walls
complemented with works of art by my mother
who is also a competent artist,' said the owner
with her eyes on a miniature model of one of Parisi's automobile installations from the 1980s
This modernist residential building on the steep slopes of Como is undoubtedly one of the architect's masterpieces
with prefabricated concrete units applied on the façade and bannisters
the apartment feels almost like an independent object
an attic refuge with dynamically shaped windows and a terrace offering breathtaking lake views
It is home to a unique selection of artworks
but there is also a discreet Lucio Fontana piece on concrete tiles on the terrace floor
Fontana created an intimate relief painting on which he incorporated decorative glass marquetry
Parisi makes extensive use of dark varnished wood
found not only in some of his most iconic furniture creations
but also in tiling and built-in storage systems in the apartment
An accordion door between the living room and bedroom
and a small open staircase leading to the attic study area
with its original crystal-shaped fireplace
create privacy between spaces yet at the same time maintain a spacious feel in the relatively small apartment
It's this combination of art and design in every project that makes Parisi's architecture distinct and his legacy clear
and all the objects that moved him and contributed to his unique creative and theoretical explorations

Chanel has a fresh-faced, avant garde new designer but it still stands for classic glamour. This was the loud and clear messaging at the first Chanel show since Matthieu Blazy took up his role

Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich holidayed and which Alfred Hitchcock

First on to the pebbled catwalk weaving through the hotel’s terrace was a white bathrobe-style coat
Then there were capri pants in the butter yellow of the hotel parasols
and a lilac tweed suit to match the wisteria trailing overhead

while gold lamé cover-ups glinted as dazzling as sun on the lake

Set against the impossibly cinematic backdrop of Villa d’Este
the House's latest collection reimagined hotel life as more than just an experience
and that very specific kind of dressing that says you’ve arrived without ever trying too hard
"the joy of getting dressed up to be noticed."
The CHANEL Creation Studio captured this mood through a palette of light
floated down the runway in gelato shades—blush pink
soft apricot—each one a nod to the lake’s light and the villa’s grandeur
one of the greatest joys of dressing up for a night out is ending the evening on the dance floor
Think: trouser suits crafted from lightweight tweed and swathed in multicoloured sequins that caught the light with every rhythmic step
metallic lurex fell to the floor like liquid gold
in both a gown and backless jumpsuit (worn under a matching sweeping cape)
adding a touch of dance floor movement to the collection
Even the more demure pieces came alive with cinematic glamour—an ivory blouse with voluminous sleeves and beaded braids
paired with flowing white taffeta trousers
felt as though it had wandered straight off the set of a Luchino Visconti film
given his close friendship with Gabrielle Chanel and his deep ties to Lake Como.) There was romance
in the botanical motifs borrowed from the Villa d’Este’s gardens—wisteria
oleander—reimagined in lace and chiffon appliqué
A black skirt suit was trimmed in beaded florals
bloomed with the soft detail of hand-worked embroidery
Cruise signatures made their inevitable appearance, but always with a twist: sailor stripes reimagined in knitwear
and crisp white trousers dripping with sun-soaked nonchalance
they gave way to a collection not about a destination

Built in 1847, the heritage-listed Como House & Garden was last home to the Armytage family, who sold it to the National Trust of Australia in 1959 after living there for 95 years. Today, the estate is a destination for locals and tourists, a popular wedding venue and housed a cafe in the old stables until its temporary closure last year
the former gardeners’ sheds have been transformed into a cafe by the Scott Pickett Group
While the estate is known for its Australian Regency and Italianate architecture – a 19th-century style inspired by Italian farmhouses and villas – the new cafe takes cues from Paris
“We’re creating a cafe that combines the heritage of the estate with my love of classical French cuisine,” Pickett tells Broadsheet
travel spots and more – curated by those who know
The menu, developed by Pickett and group executive chef Stuart McVeigh, will be overseen by head chef Adam Lai (ex-Hardware Societe) who brings expertise in French
Breakfast consists of the usual cafe suspects including shakshuka
But the team amps up the offering by using items from two of Pickett’s restaurants: the cured salmon in the eggs royale is from Matilda
and there’s XO sauce from Longrain in the chilli scramble
there are changing grab-and-go salads and sandwiches such as a croque monsieur and a Wagyu pastrami option
there’s also market fish with herb dressing
and a wild mushroom and goat’s cheese quiche
Developing the venue took more than six months
with renovations focussed on restoring the space and designing an interior that honoured its history
the 60-seat cafe’s look mixes neutral shades with pops of green
While chic white marble tables are offset by rattan chairs in shades of pistachio and beige
the most eye-catching feature is the seven-metre green-tiled counter
But if you’d rather surround yourself with the outdoors
you can also order a Como Lane hamper and enjoy a picnic in the gardens

I argued they had a good chance of staying up
but it would be dependent on their experienced star signings delivering
I got that part wrong, but I don't think even Fabregas knew then that he would come to rely on youth for Como's Serie A safety
Como are officially safe from relegation after four consecutive wins elevated them to 11th in the league
with a chance of finishing the season in 10th
which would be an incredible achievement for a newly promoted side
This team is more than just Serie A survivalists
the story of this successful return to Serie A has not always been so smooth
After failing to win any of their first four Serie A games
Fabregas quickly found out the scale of the challenge ahead
the step up from the second division to the first is like night and day
then you will fall back down - promotion to the top division can be unforgiving
Losing a player of Varane's experience so early in the season was an added challenge for Fabregas as the former Real Madrid and Manchester United defender decided to retire after sustaining a season-long injury
It quickly became clear that survival was the aim
The positive for Fabregas was that despite only winning two Serie A games by mid-December
his side rarely lost by a big margin and accumulated six draws in that time
The negative was that they needed to start winning games soon if they wanted to stay up
and it wasn't obvious where the goals were coming from to do that
Cutrone had begun the season as the starting striker
and five goals from his first eight games were promising (even if Como had only won one of the games in which he had scored)
Aside from one mini purple patch at the turn of the year
Cutrone's start to the season would prove to be a false dawn
so much so that Fabregas has left him on the bench for three of the last four games
Cutrone's story is a familiar one for the bigger-name players in Como's squad who (for different reasons) have fallen out of favour at different stages of the season
Fabregas had good reason to be unhappy with the state of his squad by the January transfer window
as some high-profile summer signings were proving to be past their best
With Belotti loaned out to Benfica until the summer
January signings were needed to freshen up an underperforming and ageing squad
Despite back-to-back home wins at the end of 2024
Como were in a relegation scrap come the new year and needed something to change in the second half of the season
Those were the three most expensive signings
but Fabregas also brought in four more players on permanent transfers and two more on loan in an extremely productive transfer window
Those signings would prove to change the direction of Como's season for the better
Amongst the key successes have been Carqueret and full-back Alex Valle, who signed on loan from Barcelona
Carqueret has quickly become a regular starter in Fabregas' midfield and has produced three assists already
the Spaniard plans to trigger Valle's release clause to sign him permanently in the summer
No other January signing has come close to the impact made by Diao
The Senegalese winger has been a revelation for Como
having struggled to get consistent game time at Real Betis
Diao has scored eight and assisted one in a dream start to life in Italy
The 19-year-old is particularly dangerous on the counterattack with his blistering pace
exquisite ball control and composure beyond his years in front of goal
Diao has also formed an impressive understanding with Argentine sensation Nico Paz
as the two teenagers have taken Serie A by storm
This can be highlighted by Como's recent 3-0 win at Lecce when Paz threaded an inch-perfect pass for Diao
who timed his run before effortlessly scoring with a side-foot finish
Diao would add his second and Como's third in stoppage time with an unstoppable strike from the edge of the box to cap the perfect afternoon
Assane Diao's stats vs LecceMAURIZIO LAGANAGETTY IMAGES EUROPEGetty Images via AFP / StatsPerformThe one other notable incoming was the signing of free agent Dele Alli on an 18-month contract
The England international's only appearance so far was a disastrous cameo
which ended with Alli being sent off after less than 10 minutes into his first professional match for two years
if Premier League legend Fabregas can be the man to resurrect a career that at one point seemed destined for greatness
then it will prove to be a stroke of genius and a gamble that paid off
there had already been signs of players getting to grips with Fabregas' tactical approach
which is built upon a solid defensive structure and controlled build-up play focused on playing through the middle of the pitch
The January signings have only elevated the effectiveness of his system
with Diao being the perfect attacking threat for Fabregas with his darting runs through the middle
The result has seen Como move clear of the relegation zone and up to 11th in the league after an impressive second half of the season
Fabregas can turn his attention to an exciting future
Como in the Serie A standingsFlashscoreThe future looks bright After an extremely encouraging return to Serie A
which has seen Como pull off wins against Italian giants Roma
and Napoli on their way to securing safety
there is good reason to be optimistic about next season
And although keeping hold of emerging stars Diao and Paz will be no easy task
are supported by a level of financial muscle that affords them the luxury of turning down significant sums of money
the club have showcased with recent signings that they have excellent talent ID
so you would expect them to replace any unwanted departures wisely
With Fabregas set to stay at Como despite interest from some big clubs in Italy and abroad
the young coach can build on this season in the 2025/26 campaign
Como will be ready and aware of what to expect from the start of the 2025/26 season
if Fabregas can continue to build a team with the right balance of youth
Como fans - who waited over two decades to watch their side back in the top division of Italian football - can enjoy at least one more season of their club playing against some of the best players in the world
they have Fabregas to thank for that - the Spanish mastermind is showing signs that he could become as good a coach as he was a player
If he reaches even close to the heights of his playing days
he will become one of the best coaches in the world
And although it seems unlikely that Como will still have Fabregas for his prime coaching years
they look set to enjoy his football for another season at least
Fabregas will always be the man who gave Como something to believe in again after helping to forge them a pathway with exciting possibilities

Could they have a Champagne stay in the glitzy Italian resort on a shoestring?Lake Como is one of the world’s most glamorous destinations — but a visit doesn’t have to be expensiveALAMYCristo FoufasFriday May 02 2025
The Sunday TimesI’ve always lived beyond my means
it’s the reason I identify with one of my favourite songs: Eartha Kitt’s Champagne Taste
The most scathing lines are: “Do you wanna take me cruising on an ocean liner
with my champagne taste and your beer-bottle pockets/ Don’t forget to write me when you get there in your row boat/ When you’ve paddled across the sea without me.”
My identification with Kitt’s pain couldn’t have been more evident than when I chose to surprise my partner for his 40th birthday with a trip to one of the world’s most glamorous and expensive destinations
Lake Como — somewhere we’d always longed to go
Recent holidays had included a beachfront suite at a five-star resort in Goa and a staffed private villa with friends in Morocco
I resigned myself to having to stick to a three-star budget
That would mean none of the trimmings: no luxurious lake-view hotel with terrace

Watch 1m 53sResidents in Como are bracing for clean up after thousands of litres of water spilled in Sydney's south after a major pipeline burst.
AEST = Australian Eastern Standard Time which is 10 hours ahead of GMT (Greenwich Mean Time)
Stop by this lovely part of South Yarra, drift into Como Lane and unwind over brunch while taking in picturesque garden views.
To drink, you can enjoy coffee from Merchant Coffee Roasters, hot chocolate, tea, chai latte and cold pressed juices from Market Juice.
The grab-and-go offering will eventually expand to become a boutique market and retail section. Drop by for a takeaway coffee and pastry, then purchase fresh flowers, jams, preserves and other food items made in-house and from local producers.
Como House & Garden is a popular place for weddings and functions, so the cafe also has catering packages if you’re celebrating something special. Como Lane seats up to 60 guests both indoors and outdoors, and is bookable for private events. You can also purchase picnic hampers to enjoy in the grounds.
Scott Pickett Group has partnered with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria), so the cafe will host events such as flower workshops, high teas and cultural activities throughout the year.
The cafe is open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 3pm and on Sunday from 10am to 3pm.

A Lake Como villa by Tuckey Design Studio celebrates the history of its site and references the surrounding landscape through materiality
two-bedroom home that frames the area's cinematic views
‘We always start a project by establishing what is present on the site as we find it,’ says Elena Aleksandrov
the existing concrete shell was uninspired
and it would be easier to start from scratch
have tried to celebrate it as much as possible
‘The weathering that took place over a period of ten years of abandonment made highly textural surfaces that
when paired with a warm and refined palette of materials
The landscape is also referenced throughout
with colour tones paying homage to the rolling hills of Lombardy
The polished marble and concrete aggregate flooring in the kitchen blends seamlessly into the lake beyond
blurring the transition between outside and in.’
The resulting series of spaces takes on a painterly and serene quality
This was created through careful consideration of the material palette
as Tuckey Design Studio’s interior designer Yael Shmueli-Goetz says: ’While the villa’s location above Lake Como is advantageous for spectacular views and design inspiration
it is slightly exposed when it comes to privacy
This offered us a challenge of how to retain floor-to-ceiling glazing whilst introducing a sense of seclusion and intimacy
we introduced ethereal wool curtains that serve as semi-translucent screens which can be drawn across the entire space when needed.’
The project's context continued to be an inspiration for the design
Green-stained oak timber panelling is threaded into the kitchen and living space
creatively nodding to the leafy Lombardy region
The polished concrete and marble flooring offer smooth visual textures that reflect that of the lake
The layout of the villa consists of open-plan volumes split into two wings
which branch into the kitchen and living space
curved doors and bespoke cladding wrapping it in warmth
‘I’d like visitors to feel a sense of serenity and calm when walking into the project,’ Shmueli-Goetz says
‘The location helps contribute to this atmosphere
There is something deeply cinematic about the interiors
glazed corridors and the way natural light interacts with marble
Although there is a clear design narrative now
the team had to work through the villa’s ‘identity crisis’
which started with a complete reimagining of the landscaping
Courtyards were added to create small slices of intimate moments with nature from which to observe the unobstructed views
Taking in the villa’s holistic redesign and seeing it through to completion
Aleksandrov says: ‘I feel the most successful part of the project is the exposed concrete ceiling
Unrecognisable from what greeted us a couple of years ago
and made to look beautiful and considered following the curation of other materials and furniture that now adorn it
aligns perfectly with the seams pressed into the concrete
drawing one’s eye to look upward and appreciate its newfound vigour.’
The project is the latest to complete by Tuckey Design Studio following the opening of their new Swiss office in Andermatt
strengthening connections and collaborations in mainland Europe where the practice has long been working

It was the second straight game that Pulisic helped rescue victory for Milan

Reijnders completed the turnaround with a close-range goal in the 75th minute, much to the relief of the home fans and manager Sérgio Conceição
Reijnders said it was difficult to explain Milan's inconsistency this season
"This is something we are suffering this season
but we are making personal mistakes and these things can't happen when you are playing for Milan," Reijnders said
and right now is the best moment to do it."
