Corey and Margaux Parker’s home has sold for a suburb-record sum
Brisbane Broncos legend Corey Parker and wife Margaux have scored an impressive payout on their latest luxury home flip project
with the Daisy Hill property sold for $2.875m
The buyer was a local footy fan who signed on the dotted line after the former league star agreed to leave behind some of his treasured Broncos memorabilia
The Parkers paid $2.05m for the 2,870 sqm Daisy Hill parcel in May 2023
completing a stunning renovation before flipping the grand Queenslander home for a suburb-record sum after 15 days on the market
The couple are celebrating another property win
Records show the previous highest residential sale in the property hotspot south of Brisbane was $2.55m in November 2024
while median house prices in Daisy Hill were up 21.8 per cent over the past year to $1m
said the Highview Tce home had attracted strong interstate interest
and took out the title of the nation’s most-viewed property of the week on realestate.com.au
“The feedback from buyers was that Corey and Margaux had done an amazing renovation that was timeless,” Mr Strudwick said

as well as representing the Queensland Maroons and Australia
“The buyer asked Corey to leave behind a piece of sporting memorabilia in the games room to help start his own collection and tell the story of the home’s previous owner,” Mr Strudwick said

A mother accused of the “disturbing” hit-and-run murder of her partner’s ex-girlfriend outside a Logan childcare centre has been granted bail
was walking home on the footpath after dropping her young daughter at daycare in Daisy Hill
when she was struck by a Toyota Prado four-wheel-drive with false licence plates in July
The 23-year-old mother died in hospital later that night
The alleged driver was 24-year-old Larissa Rita Mae-Leigh Sant
Sant and her partner Tyler Scott William James were later charged with murder
James and Thompson were in an intimate relationship in the months before the alleged murder
was deliberately run down on the side of the road after she dropped her daughter at daycare
Detective Inspector Chris Knight said James was allegedly involved in the planning of the murder
Sant applied for bail in Brisbane’s Supreme Court on Wednesday
where the prosecution said she had changed the licence plates on the Toyota Prado before the alleged murder
Crown prosecutor Nathan Crane said Sant found a similar model vehicle on Facebook Marketplace and used its plates
She swapped the plates a couple of days earlier at a Logan shopping centre and changed them back after the alleged murder
“There is consistency in the way of the modus operandi,” the prosecutor said
Justice Peter Davis accepted the prosecution’s concession that it would have to prove Sant was the driver and had intent to kill the 23-year-old mother
“The Crown have evidence which taken on its face may suggest that there was a good deal of planning by Ms Sant and the gentleman involved before the incident where Ms Thompson died,” the judge said
“There are some disturbing aspects of the case
It seems the Prado was wearing a false number plate and that after the running down the number plate was changed back to its legitimate one
“There is evidence which certainly links the Prado to the accident.”
Sant’s defence lawyer said the accused was a mother of three children all under the age of six and was a low flight risk
She had no criminal history or passport and had never left the country
“The submission is that it’s unrealistic to think she is going to pack up three children under six and escape the jurisdiction,” the judge said
with the prosecution reading letters she had written to them while in custody
“I can’t be away from them for that long ..
I need to get home to them,” Sant wrote of her children
“I don’t want to spend 15 years in here ..
I can’t get over the fact that I could very well miss out on the kids’ lives.”
Sant was granted bail on strict conditions and must wear a GPS tracking device

Calls for suppression efforts to be extended after at least five nests discovered at Logan in the Daisy Hill koala bushlands
Fire ants have reached protected koala habitat and a koala priority area in south-eastern Queensland
with experts warning of the danger the highly invasive pest poses to native wildlife
At least five red imported fire ant (Rifa) nests were discovered in Neville Lawrie reserve at Logan
which is part of the Daisy Hill koala bushlands
The dense bushland is known for its prime koala habitat and koala corridor
Less than 2km from the location of the nests is the Daisy Hill koala sanctuary and the area is popular with families
0:32Queensland farmer captures rare video of invasive fire ants building 'large floating rafts' – videoNikki Liddell
“I never thought fire ants would have been in that area – I found them in the middle of the forest,” she said
“How in the hell did they get into this area?”
According to the national fire ant eradication program’s map of fire ant detections
no Rifa have been detected within the Daisy Hill conservation park or the Neville Lawrie reserve in the last 12 months
Sign up for Guardian Australia’s breaking news email
Koalas are particularly susceptible to fire ants because they move over ground and have thick fur
They were first identified as a species at threat from fire ants in a 2013 review
with the marsupials comprising one of 123 native species threatened by Rifa
Reece Pianta from the Invasive Species Council said
In February koalas were for the first time identified at the federal level as being particularly vulnerable to the fire ants
In a submission by the federal Department of Climate Change
the Environment and Water to the Senate inquiry into Rifa
platypus and echidnas could be killed or injured by them
A queen ant could easily fly at least 2km to start a new nest, Pianta said, and the koala sanctuary is well within reach of the nests Liddell discovered. A possible Rifa detection inside the sanctuary was reported at the end of August but was later determined to be a coconut ant, according to the program.
Liddell reported the nests to the fire ant suppression taskforce, which works alongside the program, but took the matter into her own hands when she had not received a response within a week.
“I got a bit cranky and said I’d [bait them] myself. I couldn’t live with myself if they didn’t treat it for a month,” she said from her Gold Coast home. “They need to be treated straight away so they don’t spread more.”
She returned to the area a week later and treated a total of five nests with bait provided by the taskforce for use on her rural acreage. She is experienced with fire ants and is treating about 70 nests on her property.
Pianta said he found it encouraging the community wanted to help solve the problem.

“The community are stepping up because they can see that this is an emergency,” he said. “This is an iconic location that was set up to keep koalas safe.”
The purpose of the suppression zone was to keep fire ants under control, he said, and Liddell’s experience suggested “suppression needs to be ramped up significantly so that it works”.
“Places that are supposed to be sanctuaries for threatened species will not be safe from fire ants unless we get them under control.”
Read moreBoth he and Liddell are calling for an extension of suppression efforts – including new self-baiting protocols – in the area
which will not be covered by the taskforce or the eradication program for two years from 2026
there is a two-year gap between the end of the suppression program and when eradication treatment will commence there,” he said
“We need to make sure self-baiting kits are still available over the next four years.”
A spokesperson from the program said Liddell’s report had been referred to Logan city council for treatment and a decision on future funding of the taskforce had not been made
Under Queensland’s Biosecurity Act and pest management regulations
only authorised officers or approved persons were permitted to treat fire ants on public land
“We do strongly encourage reporting any sightings of fire ants at a residence or on public land within 24 hours
Priority is given to reports in high-risk areas such as schools

Sinn Féin MP Dáire Hughes has slammed those responsible for abusing international Daisy Hill Hospital Staff
Recently five doctors and their families were enjoying a day out in a local play park when they were subject to vile racist abuse
“This is absolutely disgraceful and disgusting behaviour
“This is repulsive behaviour that is in no way representative of the people of Newry
There is no place in society for racism or racist acts
“The people of our community welcome and champion diversity in all its forms
“We have worked hard locally to promote and protect services at Daisy Hill Hospital
The recruitment of vital international health workers was a key component in securing services at our local hospital and providing the best quality local healthcare
“Up to 70 doctors and specialised nurses were recruited to local hospitals
Their commitment and contribution to local healthcare is supreme
These people and their families have uprooted their lives to provide essential services for the people of Newry and Armagh
“The overwhelming majority of people in our community welcome these people and their families
and recognise the immense contribution they make to local healthcare and wider society
The repulsive actions of a few racists will not change that
but their despicable actions have caused fear and anxiety.”
The Sinn Féin elected representative said that this unfortunately was not the first such type of incident
“Myself and my colleague Liz Kimmins MLA had some time back highlighted a spate of racially motivated incidents which had taken place in our city
“The victims had been local health workers and business owners
We had hoped that this warped behaviour would cease but unfortunately it hasn’t
“We all must redouble our efforts to stamp out these warped behaviours from our streets and continue to stand in solidarity with anyone facing odious and repulsive racism.”
“Anyone with any information about this specific incident

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has announced the completed scheme makes the station – which is run by Northern – much easier to use for passengers
The new lift is part of a £4m investment in accessibility upgrades at the station
which included installing an accessible toilet
enhancing the station’s accessible car parking facilities and upgrades to the ticket office and booking hall to create a new lift lobby area
Completing the scheme marks the beginning of a rolling programme of accessibility works
with TfGM to deliver step-free upgrades at 10 stations over the next three years – twice as many than in the preceding decade
fewer than half of the city-region’s stations (43%) are accessible
Using money from the government’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS) and the Department for Transport’s Access for All scheme
63% of Greater Manchester’s stations will be step-free by March 2028
This forms part of Greater Manchester’s wider plans to bring eight commuter rail lines into the Bee Network by 2028
building a more inclusive and accessible public transport network and delivering major improvements to stations
said: “Bolton was among the first areas to join the Bee Network back in 2023 and I’m proud that we’re now also home to the first of the railway stations that will see accessibility improvements
“Public transport is a vital lifeline for many people in our communities including those with disabilities and I would like to thank our local councillors for their hard work on this campaign
“Making stations accessible is not a ‘nice to have’
it brings an essential service into the reach of more people and improves their opportunities and quality of life.”
said: “It’s heartening that Transport for Greater Manchester has a programme of works in place to improve access for people with disabilities
"We need to bring our railways up to a standard that adheres to the 2010 Equality Act and into the 21st century
The lack of accessibility across railway stations in Bolton West is something which needs to be addressed
“I’m very grateful for the tireless work that Councillor David Chadwick has put into ensuring that Daisy Hill station has accessible facilities to the platform
"He has been a true advocate for those with disabilities to be able to travel on the rail network
Whilst there is still work to be done on other stations to make the railway a truly accessible form of travel
this is a great step in the right direction for the residents of Westhoughton.”
Rail Minister Lord Peter Hendy said: “Thanks to £2.75m of Government funding
a new lift and improved accessible facilities at Daisy Hill station will change how people get around Greater Manchester – paving the way for better connections around the UK
“We’re clear in our ambitions for our transport network to be accessible so people can travel easily
so it’s great to see the impact our Access for All programme is making.”
Passengers at Daisy Hill can now walk or wheel to the station and benefit from step-free travel directly into central Manchester within 35 minutes
Nathaniel Yates, welcomed the improvements at Daisy Hill station and the rolling programme of improvements
He said: “The installation of the new lift at Daisy Hill station is great progress and I’m delighted that it is now open for people to use
“I’m sure it will make a real difference to the wellbeing of people who require step-free access and potentially it will unlock another mode of transport for people who live in the Daisy Hill area.”
Work to install lifts at Irlam station are also due to complete this spring
Bryn and Reddish North are all scheduled to be underway next year
Greater Manchester’s Active Travel Commissioner
said: “People with disabilities or mobility issues should be able to make seamless journeys across the city-region and there shouldn’t be barriers to anyone using trains to reach their destination
“The much-needed accessibility improvements at Daisy Hill station are a welcome first step towards our ambition to make every station accessible for people with disabilities
as well as those with pushchairs and bikes
“Through the Bee Network we can build an inclusive public transport system that truly works for everyone
While we look to make more stations step-free we also need to audit and make sure that the routes to them are safe and accessible for people walking
wheeling and cycling that part of their journey.”
The improvements at Daisy Hill station are part of a collaborative effort between TfGM
with funding provided by the Department for Transport’s Access for All Scheme and GMCA.
said: “We’re delighted these fantastic new facilities are open and are confident they will make it easier for disabled customers and people with limited mobility to use Daisy Hill station
“We are working closely with partners like Transport for Greater Manchester to improve accessibility for people who travel across our vast network and give them the confidence to travel by train
we are not complacent and always welcome feedback so we can continue to make improvements and provide the best possible service.”
said: “The newly installed lifts at Daisy Hill station are an important milestone in our commitment to making rail travel more welcoming and accessible for all
“It has been an honour to contribute to making Daisy Hill station step-free
Accessible stations make it easier for people to visit friends
They are of critical importance to people who cannot travel without step-free access
We are determined to do as much as we can to promote accessible travel across Greater Manchester.”
Story Contracting has delivered the accessibility improvements at Daisy Hill station
which included using a 350-tonne crane to lift the new structure into place on the platform
said: “We are delighted to have delivered the construction works for Daisy Hill’s step-free access scheme on behalf of Transport for Greater Manchester
This project is a fantastic example of how we work collaboratively with our clients to deliver high-quality
community-focused infrastructure improvements
we are committed to delivering projects that improve connectivity and accessibility
and we look forward to continuing our partnership with TfGM to enhance rail travel across Greater Manchester.”

This Tuesday 18 February in the Armagh City Hotel there is an opportunity for people to have their views heard via a consultation that could have far-reaching effects on Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry
Local political representatives lobbied for a meeting in the Newry area but organisers to date haven't moved their stance and the meeting for this area will take place on Tuesday from 7-9pm in Armagh
The consultation “Hospitals – Creating a Network for Better Outcomes” was launched on 2 October and sets out the key principles to underpin service reorganisation including designating Daisy Hill as a General Hospital rather than a Area one like Craigavon
The Department of Health say the aim of the consultation is to address a number of areas including the need for hospital reconfiguration
how hospitals can work together for better outcomes
where services are and how people can get the services they need in a sustainable way
Health Minister Mike Nesbitt said: “The pressures evident in our health and social care system underscore the necessity for reform
Change is necessary to make sure the services we provide can be delivered safely and productively in order to meet the needs of both our current and future population
reconfiguration is not about cutting costs or closing hospitals
It’s about managing change in a controlled way to ensure our people have access to the right services at the right time
resulting ultimately in better outcomes for all
your opinions and experiences are essential
“I encourage everyone to take part in the ongoing consultation process and make your voices heard before the closing date of 28 February
My Department will consider all views expressed
“I welcome the meaningful engagement at recent public events in Newtownards
take part in the discussion and share your views.”
Police believe a young mother was deliberately killed while walking along a Daisy Hill footpath in Brisbane’s south on Friday morning in a hit-and-run attack
Detective Inspector Chris Knight said on Sunday police had charged a 24-year-old woman with murder after she allegedly targeted 23-year-old mother Kiesha Thompson with a silver Toyota Prado
mowing her down as she walked along Allamanda Drive just before 9am on Friday
suffered critical head injuries and died in hospital that night
Knight said the alleged victim had just dropped her daughter off at a nearby daycare centre when she was struck in what he described as a “targeted” attack
that the vehicle involved in this incident had been in that area for an extended period of time leading up to the collision,” he said
we don’t believe it was an unfortunate random traffic accident.”

She had walked in there with a young child and she was walking home

A young mother who was allegedly murdered in a love-triangle hit-and-run was recently caught up in a suspected revenge porn attack
Kiesha Thompson, 23, was allegedly deliberately struck by a four-wheel drive while walking home on a footpath after dropping her daughter at daycare in Daisy Hill, in Brisbane's south last Friday
Ms Thompson died in hospital that night and police have since charged her ex-partner Tyler Scott William James, 27, and his new girlfriend Larissa Rita Mae-Leigh Sant, 24, with domestic violence murder
Police will allege James was involved in planning the attack
before Sant carried it out - spending an 'extended amount of time' driving around the suburb in her Toyota LandCruiser Prado before mowing Ms Thompson down
Daily Mail Australia can reveal that a seemingly fake social media account in Ms Thompson's name was set up in April
The account features highly explicit pictures of Ms Thompson that appear to have been posted without her permission
The only time the account - which includes link in the bio to a non-existent OnlyFans page - appears to have been active was the day it was created
when 15 photos of Ms Thompson were uploaded
Daily Mail Australia does not suggest the incident and Ms Thompson's murder are connected nor that those accused of her death were involved
The revelation comes as Queensland Police revealed on Tuesday that they were aware of 'distressing' posts online and were working to have them removed
'We have taken steps to try to get those posts examined
That will form part of an ongoing investigation
but we've also taken steps to try to take those down
which is challenging,' Detective Inspector Chris Knight told reporters
Detective Inspector Knight said the social media posts have been compounding Ms Thompson's grief
it's distressing on so many levels,' he said
the grief that causes the surviving victims of this
'They are grieving the loss of their niece
The impact (her death) will have on her family is tremendous.'
Earlier this week, Daily Mail Australia revealed that Sant was a young mother-of-three who worked at a Brisbane petting zoo
Police have said James and Ms Thompson broke up several months ago
but have not detailed what they will allege motivated the tragedy
who is from Acacia Ridge and the father of Ms Thompson's child
was remanded in custody and did not appear in person in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday
Sant also was remanded in custody after a separate court mention
Their cases will next be heard together as a committal trial mention before the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on July 31
Ms Thompson's brother Koby Torto said she was taken from the family in a 'cowardly act' while her aunt Amanda Matthias called it 'horrific and senseless' in a video released by police on Monday
said the pain of losing her sibling could not be put into words
'We are struggling with the enormity of her absence in our life,' she said
Her family vowed to raise her baby daughter who was 'the absolute light of her life'
'We are here to support her (daughter) throughout her whole life,' Mr Torto said
A GoFundMe set up to raise funds to honour Kiesha’s memory and help provide for her daughter's future has already raised close to $20,000
'The family cannot express enough gratitude for the heroic efforts of all involved in caring for Kiesha following the collision,' the page states
Kiesha 'had created a warm and stable home' for herself and baby daughter
who had just started daycare so Kiesha could pursue an apprenticeship as a painter
'As they grieve and focus on caring for Kiesha's daughter

Aaron Hunt’s talent on Football Manager has led him to take on an extraordinary challenge
The streamer has now been asked to put his virtual triumphs into reality for North West Counties Football League club
this beloved club is part of league history
yet it has never had the thrill of promotion
Affectionately known as ‘The Cutters,’ the team calls Westhoughton in Greater Manchester home
Hunt joined Hawksbee and Baker on talkSPORT to share the remarkable journey that began on the footy simulation game to boss in real life has brought him here
all the way up to League Two [on Football Manager]

"The team were really struggling, the club was going to have to fold and exit the league, and it’s a 113-year-old club," he explained of his reason to join.
"Everyone on the board is in their 70s or 80s; they don’t want to do it anymore. I’ve ended up stepping in. It could be a blessing or a curse; we don’t know yet, but I’m there now.
“It is a commitment, and people are so emotionally invested in the club, whether that’s people who watch, play, or have been involved. You can’t do it half-heartedly; there’s too much at stake.”
