Transport for NSW is trialling left-turn bans from Victoria Road citybound at Lyons Road and Edwin Street
The bans apply to all vehicles during weekday morning peak periods
Left turns for vehicles under six metres are permitted at all other times
(Vehicles over six metres are not permitted to turn left at these intersections)
New ‘No Left Turn’ signs are installed on Victoria Road citybound on its approach to Lyons Road and Edwin Street.
The trial will help determine if left-turn bans can reduce “rat-running” in east Drummoyne’s local streets
which is causing congestion and impeding local residents’ access to their properties
The left turn bans will also improve safety during the morning peak at Lyons Road and Edwin Street
Transport invited the Drummoyne community to have their say on the proposed left-turn ban
Transport announced the bans would be the subject of a six-month trial
which will allow sufficient time to assess the effect on local congestion and local resident access
Transport will continue to work with City of Canada Bay Council to identify other potential traffic mitigation measures within Drummoyne and will keep the community informed
Transport will advise the community on the outcome of the trial after it concludes

The limited-edition address is on the market with a guide of $6 million.
A semi-razed home and luxury infrastructure, including an in-ground swimming pool, are already in place.
Currently a land-value proposal with trophy home prospects, the property will be auctioned on April 12 through PRB Real Estate.
It is rare to find a blank canvas address with an established swimming pool and deep-water mooring.
The pool and jetty are in very good condition, agent Marcello Biviano says. However, the home at 378 Victoria Place, Drummoyne, will require attention.
Its position on Parramatta River provides a front-row seat to a private marina.
The property’s mooring pen can hold a sizeable cruising vessel.

I had $1m to buy a house for a friend. What could go wrong?
Influencer and AFL great list renovated property for $2.85m-$3m
The labour to remove the house has started. Impressive homes on either side should inspire the new owner.
The outlook over the Gladesville Bridge Marina ensures there will always be magnificent views.
“It is such a rare offering,” Biviano says. “Buyers are a mixed bag. We have upsizers – those who want to get onto the waterfront.
“And then there are the downsizers, who are looking to build a luxury home.
“Or, it could be a multigenerational family who will build and develop it into two properties on the one lot. Because of the zoning, you have that capacity.”
The 628-square-metre block is covered by R3 zoning, which enables applications for dual occupancy, townhouses, terraces, villas and apartments.
A development approval for apartments was previously in place and provides a reference point for buyers who may wish to take that path, Biviano says.
“It is great to have the marina on one side, and residential homes next door rather than apartments,” Biviano says.
“I am looking forward to seeing who will purchase it and what they will do with it.”

it’s the fried-chicken sanger we reckon is the mandatory purchase here
The fried chicken sandwich at Tonino’s International.Edwina PicklesTell me more about this deli
Tonino’s International is the brainchild of Stefano De Caro
head chef of Surry Hills restaurant Cicerone Cucina Romana
The precursor for Tonino’s began years ago at Cicerone when they operated a Sunday deli selling sandwiches during COVID lockdowns
and with years of ideas and experience on their side
the opportunity to bring Tonino’s International to life was realised
Tonino’s deli is located within a Harris Farm in Drummoyne
Edwina PicklesAdvertisementThe deli has a nostalgic vibe
“I wanted to make it feel like my dad opened this in New York in the 1960s
1970s and I took it over in the ’90s,” says De Caro
which doubles as a bistro serving pizza and pasta by night
Co-owner Stefano De Caro with his sandwich
Edwina PicklesBut back to the fried chicken sandwich
While the Italian delis of New York might have shaped Tonino’s
the fried chicken sanger draws influence and ingredients from the Middle East
southern United States and Asia (in particular Korean fried chicken)
“I don’t want it to be too Italian,” says De Caro
He brines corn-fed chicken thigh (or breast
depending on mood) in buttermilk and harissa (North African red chile paste) for 24 to 48 hours
resulting in an incredibly tender and juicy piece of chicken
The secret sauce? A spicy mix of kimchi mayo and sriracha. Edwina PicklesIt does, but it’s also got extra crunchy batter. “I use three types of flour [mixed with] spices, then we dust the chicken,” he says, not revealing what’s in the spice mix. The chicken is then fried, and before it’s placed on a round Big Marty’s sesame seed roll, it’s dipped in hot honey.
Kimchi mayo, sriracha, sliced Lebanese cucumber, shredded lettuce and cheddar are also added. The lettuce and cucumber add freshness, making it lighter. The chilli is noticeable, but I wouldn’t call it spicy, and although you might think the flavours clash, it all sings in harmony.
Spices are also added to the batter for extra kick. Edwina PicklesAdvertisementThe large orange-hued chicken sandwich comes with a steak knife so that you can cut it in half, but we reckon you should get messy and enjoy it as it comes.
“What’s your bestseller?” I ask. “Oh, definitely the chicken sandwich,” says De Caro.

The six-bedroom home at 44 St Georges Crescent was well looked after by the same family for 40 years.
Bidding opened at $11 million, with $250,000 increments driving the price up before they shortened to $50,000 and $20,000. After thirty minutes of bidding in the living room overlooking Cockatoo Island, the property sold before a crowd of 50, including 10 members of the vendor’s family.
Selling agent Matt Ward of McGrath Hunters Hill didn’t disclose the reserve but said “the vendors were thrilled that it hit the reserve”.
“[Waterfront homes are] something that people aspire to – to be able to look at the water and the city and Harbour Bridge view is something that this side of Sydney, especially on the waterfront, doesn’t really come up very often,” he said.
The waterfront house last traded for $400,000 in 1984, records show.
The inner west buyer has a building background and will be making improvements for his family. The vendor plans to downsize locally.

It was one of 923 scheduled auctions in Sydney on Saturday. By Saturday evening, Domain Group had recorded a preliminary auction clearance rate of 62.6 per cent from 850 reported results across the week, while 218 auctions were withdrawn. Withdrawn auctions are counted as unsold properties when calculating the clearance rate.
In Strathfield, the owner of 2 Jersey Road, purchased in 2023 for $4.35 million, sold his front yard for $2,875,000.
1 Bath1 ParkingView listing The corner block was 535.7 square metres and had dual access from two streets, making it attractive to developers interested in building a duplex.
Five parties registered, all developers, and four actively competed. Bidding opened at $2.1 million, which was above the $2 million guide.
Bidding rose in $100,000 jumps which then fell to $50,000, $25,000, $1000 and $5000 increments. The block sold for $375,000 above its $2.5 million reserve to a developer.
“It was raining at the time. We had to have umbrellas out, we had to try and shield people,” James Kaye of Belle Property said. “So the weather could have been better. But it didn’t stop those buyers from coming out, seeing the value there.”
Kaye said the vendors were happy with the result, adding that the subdivision sale would fund their new build, as the original structure had already been demolished.
In South Coogee, an upsizing Maroubra family secured the keys to a five-bedroom, move-in ready house for $4.7 million.
Three registered, and all actively bid on the home guided at $4.4 million, with swimming pool, at 133 Moverly Road.
Bidding opened at $4 million, with $50,000 and $25,000 bid increments until it sold bang on its $4.7 million reserve.
3 Baths5 ParkingView listing NGFarah’s Martin Farah said it was good value for the size and for the area. “The home was done with a lot of quality. All the little things were done right.”
The vendor is relocating within the same suburb.
The property last traded for $2.3 million in 2019, records show.
In Marrickville, a sweet single-level semi sold for $2.1 million. The two-bedroom courtyard semi at 26 Charles Street sold well above the vendor’s expectations. The reserve was $1.7 million.
1 Bath2 ParkingView listing Eleven registered to bid and seven were active; some were first home buyers, some upsizers and one was an investor.
Bidding opened on the street in front of the house at $1.5 million, with $50,000 bid increments before they dropped to $20,000 and $30,000 rises. Then the increments climbed again to bold $40,000 and $50,000 offers towards the end.
BresicWhitney’s Frederico Fraga-Matos said the vendor was “pleasantly surprised”.
“He was a carpenter, so he was very houseproud.”
The semi last traded for $175,000 in 1994, records show.
After 30 years there, the vendor will be changing lifestyle with a move to the Central Coast. The buyer had been renting locally in Marrickville.
AMP’s chief economist Dr Shane Oliver said Sydney’s clearance rate of 62.6 per cent was still a fairly soft outcome for Sydney.
“The basic problem remains that there’s been a pickup in listings, 1345 listings [last week] compared with 1185 a year ago,” he said. “Part of that is seasonal, but part of it is forced listings on the fact that it’s still high interest rates.
“And at the same time, demand is being constrained by those high interest rates.”
Thirty-five people gathered on the balcony at 7/68-70 Wrights Road, with the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the backdrop, and watched the rapid-fire bidding for the luxurious flat with three car spaces guided at $4 million.
the price shot above its $4.2 million reserve to $4.3 million
Selling agent Matt Ward from McGrath Hunters Hill said “it was a magical morning”
“There are a lot of apartments in Drummoyne but not many big ones
This was just under 200 square metres internally
as well as the low maintenance of the amenities
“The building itself is a waterfront complex which has a swimming pool
“The market is cautious but good-quality real estate is still attracting astute interest.”

In Concord, a brand-new sophisticated home at 4 Inverary Street sold above its $4.1 million reserve for $4,265,000.
4 Baths4 ParkingView listing The home was guided at $3.8 million and bidding opened at $3.6 million
Six inner west locals registered for the stunning property and four actively competed in rises of $100,000 down to $5000
McGrath Strathfield’s Tarun Sethi said “it was a turnkey proposition … brand-new home.”
Sethi said the market is quite strong and a good testament to a highly competitive market
The address last traded for $1,635,000 in 2020
In Cabramatta, seven buyers registered for a five-bedroom house with a guide of $1.6 million. The single-level family home at 70 Sussex Street attracted owner-occupiers, a mix of growing families and older ones.
2 Baths4 ParkingView listing Six of the seven buyers were active in the ring. Bidding started at $1.3 million and rose rapidly in $100,000 increments.
When the price hit its reserve of $1.65 million, two buyers battled it out with smaller rises until a final $3000 bid secured the home for $1,803,000.
LJ Hooker’s Henry Thai said Cabramatta has changed, and he thinks it will become Burwood “one day”.
“People that can’t afford Burwood or Strathfield – they come here,” Thai said.
“Long, long time ago, nobody wanted to stay in Cabramatta … now it’s a different story,” he said.
Cabramatta’s median house price is now $1.1 million, Domain figures show, up 44.7 per cent in the 12 months to December.
The buyers are a local family. The vendor is moving to a retirement village.
AMP chief economist Dr Shane Oliver said Sydney’s clearance rate of 63.5 per cent is down slightly from last week.
“We are in the run-up to Easter. So typically, selling activity tends to occur before Easter, and then after Easter, it slows off as we go into winter. So this is sort of the last of the strong weekends in terms of listing activity, but obviously buyer demand wasn’t that strong, and so we’re seeing demand cool off.”
Oliver said he believes Trump’s tariffs are starting to take a toll.
“There’s ongoing uncertainty around the election, but I think the big drag at present on buyer confidence is the uncertainty around the impact of Trump’s tariffs,” he said.

The Hurricanes won the first encounter by 31 runs
thanks to a strong batting performance by Nicola Carey. The inverse happened in the next outing
with Heather Knight leading the Thunder to a 33-run win
She'll be unavailable for this game as she's with the England squad
Top-order batting is a huge strength for both these sides
Thunder duo Georgia Voll and Phoebe Litchfield finished fourth and fifth in the competition for most runs
Elyse Villani (ninth) and Nicola Carey (tenth) all finished in the top ten for runs scored
The Hurricanes finished the home-and-away season second for total runs scored
while the Thunder came in fourth. The difference for these teams starts in the bowling attacks
The Thunder have four players in the top 25 for most wickets this season
with Samantha Bates the star there with 19 wickets
The Hurricanes have spread their bowling around a bit more
but may lack that one player that's capable of really tearing the game apart
A spot in The Challenger against the Brisbane Heat is the reward for the winner
The road for the ultimate glory is the same for both sides however - just win three games in a row to be crowned WBBL|10 champions
The Knockout: Sydney Thunder v Hobart Hurricanes | Drummoyne Oval | Wednesday, November 27 at 7.15pm AEDT
The Challenger: Brisbane Heat v TBC | Allan Border Field | Friday, November 29 at 7.15pm AEDT, 6.15pm AEDT

A council has promised to change its signage after residents of one particular street complained about copping parking tickets 'daily'
Meha from Drummoyne, in Sydney's Inner West
was issued a $264 fine even though she claimed the 'no stopping' sign was not visible from the parking space
Although there is a sign mere metres from where Meha parked on Formosa Street it is obscured by a tree and is facing the opposite direction
'Locals are saying that the sign is easily missed. The council should mark it on the road too,' she told Yahoo
'It breaks my heart to see a fine every day on this street on this particular spot
This is a no-stopping sign and easily missed.'
Other residents on the street have similar complaints about being fined over a sign that was out of view from where they parked
The City of Canada Bay Council has said the existing sign complies with Australian standards but that it will add additional signage in order to help reduce confusion.
Other residents have similar complaints to Meha after being fined over the same mistake.
One man said how 'grateful' he was to a passing driver who warned him not to park in the notorious spot.
Another resident suggested painting additional stripes on the road to warn drivers about where they can and cannot park.
The City of Canada Bay's Traffic Engineers determined the sign was 'compliant with the appropriate Australian standard' but agreed to installing 'an additional sign at this location to further assist motorists to be aware of the "No Stopping" restriction'.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted City of Canada Bay Council for comment.

Sydney Thunder head coach Lisa Keightley has named a 13-player squad for her side's rematch with the Perth Scorchers at the MCG on Friday
This fixture marks the second meeting between Thunder and the Scorchers this season
following their encounter at Drummoyne Oval on Tuesday night
Keightley emphasised the importance of recalibrating and building on their strengths for this next showdown
“While we didn't get the result we wanted on Tuesday
and we'll be focusing on refining our execution and playing to our strengths
The players are ready to respond in Melbourne
“We can’t take anything away from the Scorchers; they played with great intensity
and we’ll be looking to match that energy on neutral ground
“Playing at the MCG gives us a fantastic chance to regroup
and the team is excited to put on a strong performance.”
This match will be a landmark occasion for WBBL veteran Sammy-Jo Johnson
who will be making her debut appearance at the iconic MCG
who has been a part of the league since its inaugural season
shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming experience
“I’ve been looking forward to this game all season,” Johnson admitted
“It’s an incredible feeling to finally get the chance to play on one of the world’s most famous grounds
and I can’t wait to be out there with my teammates
“The MCG is such a special venue in Australian sport
and it's a bit surreal that this will be my first time playing here
I have played at every other stadium in Australia and will now be able to add the MCG to that list
I’ll be giving it everything to make it a memorable match for Thunder fans.”

As the Australian sailing community prepares to support our Australian Sailing Team athletes and their fellow Aussie teammates at the Paris Olympics
clubs and associations around the country are registering to host official watch parties during the Games
With a special personal connection to some of our sailors
Drummoyne Sailing Club (DSC) is one club already registered with the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) to host an official event
Club Commodore Stephen Brady is grateful for the support of the AOC and says the club is excited to come together and support our Aussie sailors from afar
“Hosting a watch party really is a special way for us to engage with club members – we’re excited for the opportunity to bring our community together,” said Brady
“We’re really excited that Olivia [Price] and Evie [Haseldine] are on the team – they were kids that grew up at the club and over the years have both been instructors for our junior sailing program
“Everyone is excited to watch the girls and the entire Australian Sailing Team compete
It really is inspirational to our current juniors that there’s others just like them who have gone on to do really well and most importantly just really enjoy their sailing,” he said
In registering their events with the Australian Olympic Committee
DSC will receive purpose built resources to assist them with the promotion of their events
The resources will assist DSC to prepare for and host their AOC Watch Parties
therefore aiding them to engage with their community
“The Australian Sailing Team is one of the country’s most successful teams at the Olympics and when you watch the racing and listen to the expert commentary
it’s just a really exciting way to participate and learn more about the sport,” said Brady
“We’re planning to host a couple of events
We know there’s a window when medal races will be on
invite everyone along and really have a bit of a celebration.”
has witnessed the importance of engaging juniors with events like these first hand
“Evie was an impressionable 10 year old at the time of London 2012
she came home and told us that her dream was to go to the Olympics,” said Haseldine
“You just don’t know how and when dreams are started for young sailors
and Paris 2024 is potentially a big dream starter for that next generation of sailors

The Stars and the Heat go head-to-head at Drummoyne Oval
with this game looming as a crucial one ahead of the finals
How to watch: Channel 7, 7+, Fox Cricket, Kayo Sports
Buy tickets: Tickets are on sale here
For all matches in WBBL|10 there will be a Weber Baby Q up for grabs during the innings break
Live scores: Match Centre
Melbourne Stars: LLLWW (Most recent first)
Back-to-back losses to the Renegades has really put the Stars in a tough position
The Heat have re-found their form and are looking better with the ball
Kim Garth had the Renegades in all sorts early
but she ended up conceding a few more runs than she would have liked
Shikha Pandey has been a wrecking ball for the Heat lately
taking out both Alyssa Healy and Amelia Kerr very cheaply
this game should keep them in the mix for a top-two spot with a win
Sydney Thunder are one step closer to WBBL|10 glory after taking down Hobart Hurricanes with six balls to spare
Phoebe Litchfield has led from the front to keep Sydney Thunder alive in the Weber WBBL|10 finals
steering her side to a six-wicket win over Hobart Hurricanes in the Knockout
who was given a life on 23 when Hurricanes 'keeper Lizelle Lee missed a stumping opportunity
striking 46 from 36 deliveries as the Thunder reeled a target of 127 in 19 overs
On an evening where only the skippers looked at home in the middle
Elyse Villani's unbeaten 49 off 42 had helped Hobart to 6-126 in difficult batting conditions
giving the Hurricanes some hope of their first ever WBBL finals win
When Lee missed the chance to remove Litchfield off the spin of Molly Strano in the 15th over
the Thunder still needed 42 off 31 and the Hurricanes were building pressure
But a big Power Surge over from the Thunder skipper and batting partner Anika Learoyd (23no from 24) in the 18th over
where they took Heather Graham for 14 runs including three boundaries
left them needing just 10 from the final 12 balls
Litchfield's first six of the match put the result beyond doubt
and while she was dismissed with her team still two runs shy of victory
Georgia Adams found the boundary first ball to ice the game
where they will meet the Heat in the Challenger at Allan Border Field on Friday night
The winner of that game advances to Sunday's final against the Renegades at the MCG
The Thunder had been bowled out for 121 and 97 at the same venue during the regular season – offering hope to the Hurricanes despite their low total – and the hosts were immediately on the back foot when in-form opener Georgia Voll was caught off the second ball of their chase
Second ball...Georgia Voll is out! #WBBL10 pic.twitter.com/vj6PLSVgdE
The Hurricanes were able to make regular breakthroughs to keep the pressure on the Thunder
with Heather Graham removing Tahlia Wilson for 14 after she was promoted to first drop
and leg-spinner Amy Smith intervening to dismiss Chamari Athapaththu (31) just as she was looking ominous
But the Thunder's experience on the Drummoyne surface shone through in Litchfield's patient innings
Hobart had made a change at the top of the order as they elected to set a target
calling in Ruth Johnston for her first game of the season to join opener Lizelle Lee
and shuffling Villani back to the middle-order
Johnson's stay in the middle lasted just six deliveries before she was bowled in bizarre fashion
skying a delivery from quick Shabnim Ismail and losing sight of the ball as she started running down the pitch
WOW!Have you ever seen a cricket dismissal like this?! #WBBL10 pic.twitter.com/XH1oPt9g6A
it was to see the ball land directly in front of the stumps and roll into them
When Athapaththu (2-24) picked up the key wickets of Nicola Carey (1) and Heather Graham (10) with her off-spin
and Taneale Peschel (2-24) had Lee bowled for a 26-ball 23
Well off the pace at 4-47 midway through their innings
Villani pulled out a captain's knock of her own to give her side hope on a difficult batting deck
Her shift back to No.4 paid off for the club as she smacked five fours and hooked Ismail for six
With handy contributions from Suzie Bates (16) and Kathryn Bryce (10)
the Hurricanes scored 49 runs from the final five overs to set the Thunder 127 for a spot in the Challenger
Sam Bates continued her outstanding season with a four-over miserly spell of 0-14
The Knockout: Sydney Thunder beat Hobart Hurricanes by six wickets with six balls remaining

which will be one of the highlights of the competition league wide
and Drummoyne is one of the most picturesque

Samantha Hassan bought a house that had one less bedroom
was far older and cost $200,000 more than a nearby home that sold five years ago
Hassan and her husband have been faced with not only rising prices but also rising mortgage rates that left them almost priced out of Drummoyne
even though it was one of the weakest-growing suburbs in that time

our pre-approval was just under $2.4 million
our pre-approval was $1.4 million,” said the 36-year-old who works in events
including Drummoyne’s 9.3 per cent slide in the past year to March
Hassan said it made little difference to their home-buying aspirations as the suburb remains 24.3 per cent higher than five years ago
What was so hard over that time was everything we wanted was just out of reach
It has been a common story for most home buyers in Sydney in the past five years to March 2024
as even the weakest-performing housing markets still recorded increases
rose 14.8 per cent to a median house price of $2,353,000
It was followed by a range of even less desirable and more far-flung suburbs that recorded steeper growth despite small declines in the past year
Rising prices were compounded by an unprecedented pandemic and the fastest rate hikes in a generation
leaving the average home buyer behind if they were hoping to get into a house in any pocket of Sydney in the ensuing five years
Domain chief of research and economics Dr Nicola Powell said Sydney’s property market is more expensive than five years ago
House prices rose 57 per cent in that time
“There are no suburbs that have fallen over the past five years because we’ve seen house prices have made a full recovery,” Powell said
“What that shows at a suburb level is the lift is broad-based.”
units had recorded declines that were down by 22 per cent in Kingswood to -2.5 per cent in Strathfield in the bottom 20 suburbs
Powell said it highlighted Sydneysiders’ strong preference for houses
“It showcases the strength in the house sector
part of that is we’ve seen weaker or slower growth in units by comparison,” Powell said
St George chief economist Besa Deda said Sydney’s broad-based house price growth was driven by low interest rates for some of the period
strong population growth and market expectations that the next move in interest rates are a powerful mix of factors that are supporting growth in dwelling prices and likely to see dwelling prices supported over the period ahead.”
House prices haven’t fallen in any suburb of Sydney over the past five years
Deda said that while she is not expecting price growth to continue at the same rate as last year because of affordability and borrowing capacity constraints
prices were likely to continue rising due to demand and undersupply of housing
“It means that potential home buyers may move towards more affordable areas further away from the coast and the CBD
or from areas that have good access to infrastructure and transport to relatively more affordable areas,” she said
“It includes potential home buyers considering apartments over a house with a backyard
and it may mean looking at homes that contain more confined living spaces.”
The Agency Inner West and Drummoyne’s Fayez Yammine said it was undoubtedly harder to buy property in his pocket of Sydney than in 2019 despite concerns that never materialised
“I remember 2019 was quite a tough market because there were talks just before the election of the Labor Party getting in,” Yammine said
“The market went really flat because of the potential of negative gearing being abolished and talks of interest rates going up if the Labor Party got in.”

There is no shortage of amazing waterfront properties in Sydney
There is also no shortage of properties with tennis courts
But when it comes to waterfront tennis courts – well
On the market for the first time in 84 years, ‘Shalimar’ at 16 Drummoyne Ave, Drummoyne is a rare find for this very reason
The five-bedroom Federation house on 2,982sq m has a lawn tennis court right on the water’s edge
with genuine claims of being Sydney’s best sporting venue
The lawn tennis court and tidal pool have held a prime waterfront position for more than a century
It might not be a national icon nor have a naming sponsor but it is every bit as impressive as the SCG
Parramatta’s CommBank Stadium or the new Sydney Football Stadium
In terms of pristine locations in tennis world
it might mirror the Dubai helipad Roger Federer and Andre Agassi played on
Roger Federer and Andre Agassi playing on a court on the helipad of Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai
Shalimar was originally the home of George J
the property was held in Pauline’s name until Mr Crowley’s passing in 1933
Well known in the Sydney business community as the chairman of directors for the City Life Assurance Society
a bust statue of Mr Crowley is on display at Sydney’s Rockpool Bar and Grill in Hunter St (formerly his office)

Shalimar was sold to Charles McNiven of McNiven’s ice cream and is now held in a family business ‘Shalimar investments’
Selling agent Martin Schiller of Savills Sydney said the heritage site was unique
“If you were to highlight the significant properties in the Drummoyne area
it would be one of a handful,” Mr Schiller said
“It is likely to sell to a family who will restore the home to live in long term.”

On just short of 3,000sq m of waterfront land
period wallpaper and ornate cornices adorn the walls and windows while a marble fireplace in the dining room adds further grandeur
The living area and two of the bedrooms have panoramic water views
a tidal harbour pool sits beside an old-fashioned cabana with three change rooms
There is also a billiards room above a separate double garage which was originally used to store horse carriages
Mr Crowley’s granddaughter Bettena Henty said the tennis court and tidal pool were original features of the 124-year-old house
The 81 year-old daughter of Mr Crowley’s youngest child
visited the property in January this year and discovered her mother’s room “100 years since she was there
Ms Bettena Henty (81) and her brother Mr John Madden (79) visiting their grandparents’ house in 2022
“When talking to Mother about her days growing up at Shalimar in Drummoyne
she recollected lots of fun days playing tennis and swimming with friends – and rowing in their boat across to Hunters Hill for Mass on Sundays and to Marist Brothers Convent School at Woolwich,” Ms Henty said
Shalimar has been listed for sale by private treaty and has a price guide of $15m

The Marist Brothers are selling a 3000sqm landholding on the Parramatta River
A religious order of the Catholic Church is selling a historic landmark waterfront estate that could rewrite property records in Sydney’s inner west
The 3000sqm estate in Drummoyne known as Melton
has been owned by Marist Brothers for the past 70 years and is believed to have a $12 million price guide
Comprising of a three-storey mansion and another two-storey building, the huge complex at 14 Drummoyne Ave has been used as a residence and offices of the order
The original three-storey mansion is full of character detail
The property sits on the Parramatta River and is one of the largest private landholdings in the inner west
It has R3 Residential zoning which means the property is expected to be popular with both owner occupiers and developers
The zoning permits the owner occupiers to recreate a waterfront home or for developers to explore options such as a school
accommodation or possible residential redevelopment
The landmark listing has the potential to challenge the Drummoyne suburb record of $12.2 million that was set in 2017 when hotelier and race car driver Rod Salmon sold his three-level mansion
A $12 million result would also see the estate claim the third most expensive sale in the inner west
with the current record set last year after property developer John Gobbo paid $14.25 million for a waterfront mansion in Birchgrove
Listed with The Agency’s Tony Laing and Michael Laing
the duo are courting buyers via an expressions of interest campaign
The online ad describes the property as “a never to be repeated opportunity” with a roof top turret offering views of the Sydney skyline and over the Parramatta River
It has a tidal pool that is leased from the RMS
Property records reveal the Drummoyne property
is under the ownership of the Trustees of the Marist Brothers who also own at least 80 other properties from a one-bedroom apartment in Potts Point to a number of schools
It is understood the order’s focus as a property player is to provide accommodation for retired and ageing brothers
The original three-storey Federation home has a wealth of character features and is configured to feature several sittings rooms
The estate has been under the order’s ownership for the past 70 years
Connected via a covered walkway is the second building
which has a library and a floor dedicated to offices
The ground floor has 12 bedrooms — all with their own bathrooms
Other features include manicured landscape gardens with a level waterfront lawn area
a boatshed and an enclosed tidal pool that is subject to a RMS lease
Marist Brothers is an international religious order founded in 1817 by a French priest
