and the University of Georgia. It's a great spot for a picnic lunch on the grass or to listen to the babbling Trail Creek as it runs under the lower park bridge who governed Athens from 1926-1935 and 1938-1939 the long-awaited Firefly Trail officially opened in Athens-Clarke County and now includes a 1 mile segment which includes a stunning 500'-long bridge over the North Oconee River and a connection to Dudley Park and the North Oconee River Greenway TSPLOST funding will help to complete the eight miles in Athens-Clarke County and Winterville.  North Oconee River Park is bisected by the North Oconee River Access into the park can be found from Willow Street and Martin Luther King Jr It features several sitting benches and a small shelter and picnic table to enjoy riverside views Expansive grassy areas are great for walking your leashed pets and taking in a bit of nature in the urban landscape.  Located near the site of Daniel Easley's original saw and grist mill the overlook offers a glimpse into Athens history by allowing travelers on the multi use trail to see the stretch of river that became the industrial hub for the small community of Cedar Shoals that would go on to become the city of Athens.  The overlook at Easley's Mill is located on the North Oconee River Greenway at the foot of Carr's Hill and across Oconee Street from Dudley Park.  Sandy Creek Nature Center is a gateway to outdoor exploration  The property features 225 acres of woodlands and wetlands with over 4 miles of trails including an ADA interpretive trail and connections to the North Oconee River Greenway and Cook's Trail The SPLOST-funded Education & Visitor Center includes live reptiles  There is also a circa 1815 log house and several wildlife observation areas on site The North Oconee River Greenway is more than a recreation space for residents and visitors of Athens-Clarke County the Greenway encompasses a corridor of natural spaces along the banks of the North Oconee These spaces provide many benefits to the river  By acting as a natural buffer between sources of runoff and the river the Greenway helps to improve water quality in the North Oconee River and other ground cover help to slow runoff water as it drains toward the river This allows sediment and other pollutants to drop out of the runoff before it enters the waterway Larger vegetation helps to secure the banks and surrounding area against erosion further reducing the amount of sediment filling the river while also ensuring the area remains stable for users The North Oconee River Greenway and other areas like it provide space and habitat for many different species in an otherwise urban or suburban environment Many species large and small benefit from access to the river as both a source of food and water The protected corridor along the river also serves as a migratory path for animals connecting many different areas and environments of Athens-Clarke County that would otherwise be cut off from one another by urban development Below are examples of work Athens-Clarke County Unified Government has done to protect this vital resource with help from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and hundreds of volunteers During July 1-3, 2019 over 150 employees from Pilgrim’s Pride worked with Athens-Clarke Leisure Services Department and Sustainability Office staff on the Reclaim Our River Project The effort focused on removing destructive invasive plants and trash next to the North Oconee River and reclaiming this incredible community resource and 30 tires from the area as part of the effort The option to volunteer was made available to Pilgrim’s Pride employees to ensure job security by the company while the local plant was shut down temporarily for equipment retooling.  Watch the Outdoor Stewardship Program (GOSP) “Conserve Georgia” grants has awarded $550,000 to Athens-Clarke County Unified Government for 2020.  the $829,000 project will be used to help further the vision of the “Restore our River” project which was started in 2019 as an effort to restore approximately 1 mile of a highly urbanized river corridor into a species-rich  While plans for SPLOST funded trailhead restrooms and teaching pavilion were already underway GOSP provided additional funds to build a canoe launch at the College Avenue Bridge a fishing pier/canoe launch in Dudley Park The project also includes the restoration of 20 acres of Dudley Park and creating an in-stream pilot trash trap project  The grant award is significantly enhancing Athens-Clarke County’s effort to restore and create a unified habitat and ecosystem services management plan that involves multiple parks as well as multiple departments and stakeholders.  The Restore our River Project is a Sustainability Office Adelaide-based Electrolux Home Products has started shipping ovens to the US in a major company milestone celebrated today.  Premier of South Australia Peter Malinauskus MP and Ai Group Head of Adelaide Jodie van Deventer joined senior members of the white goods manufacturer in launching the export program.  “This is the first time the Electrolux Dudley Park facility has exported into the US market and represents a major milestone for local operations,” Electrolux Home Products General Manager Phillip Saloniklis (pictured, far right) said.  “This is a real game changer for us as the size of that market is 14 times greater than that of Australia and presents a real opportunity for us to further build on what we have been able to do here at Dudley Park.  “The US market has more than 350 million people and provides the volume opportunity for growth the business is looking for.”  Dudley Park, which employs about 400 employees and has its own local R&D group, is the last of the white goods manufacturers in this country.  While 95 per cent of its total production is destined for the Australian & New Zealand markets, it also manufactures a large range of ovens for the Africa, Middle East and Asian markets.   Popular brands such as AEG, Electrolux, Westinghouse, Chef and Frigidaire all fall under the Electrolux umbrella.  Sporting the Frigidaire badge, the ovens heading to the US come in two sizes: first off the rank is a 600mm (24”) built-in product and from early next year, a 900mm (36”) freestanding product will also be exported.  They will offer US home chefs features not currently available in that range such as air fry and steam bake.   “The products we are supplying are high-end, high-niche and low volume, so it’s much cheaper for us to make the ovens here in Australia and freight them to the US,” Mr Saloniklis said.  “It's a bit like Ferraris. You don't set up factories for Ferraris all around the world because you only sell 20 or 30 in each country. You make them in Italy and send them out. In our case, we are initially expecting to sell between 20,000-40,000 units of these ovens, with the opportunity to grow this volume." A 600mm built-in product is also destined for the Canadian market.  The extra volume is excellent news for the Adelaide plant.  “The US market is where we see our growth,” Mr Saloniklis said.  “That growth reinforces the presence we have here, and it also benefits the Australian market because the more volume, the more our fixed costs get spread, which makes own local product even cheaper.”  On target to produce more than 360,000 ovens this year with a goal of producing more than 400,000 units by 2025 and more than 500,00 by 2030, Electrolux continues to be a large employer within the Adelaide community.  “The additional volume as we hit 400,000 and 500,000 will require us to bring on more staff,” Mr Saloniklis said.  “There is immense pride among employees and within the community to know they are manufacturing products that are being exported around the world.   “It’s a real recognition of the quality coming out of Australia and a real boost for the brand.”   Picture: (L-R) Kevin Fiske, Chief Operations Officer, Electrolux Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa; SA Premier Peter Malinauskas; Sally Neville, General Manager, AmCham South Australia; Ai Group Head of Adelaide Jodie van Deventer; Andrea Satireyo, Team Leader, City of Port Adelaide Enfield; Minister for Trade and Investment Nick Champion and Phillip Saloniklis, General Manager, Electrolux. Bishop Dudley Hospitality House staff could use the parking stalls in the fenced in area to park and City teams could use the remaining area to store equipment used by various departments This lot next to the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House has been a topic of conversation since I started at the City in 2019 and the issues have only escalated each year generating a significant number of calls for Sioux Falls Police and EMS this is about the safety of the area and managing bad behavior — not about future development.” The Riverline Center proposal was announced by TenHaken early last year, and would see a new convention center built on a plot of land near 10th Street and Cliff Avenue — assuming that it is approved by voters in an advisory election for which a date has yet to be set. No official cost for the plan has been released though TenHaken has estimated a figure in the range of $200-$250 million One person did speak up in support of the fence near the end of the meeting saying that the behavior of people in the lot was often concerning to him and frightening to his children The comment kicked off an argument among several attendees that lasted until Councilor Rich Merkouris announced the meeting had concluded The final vote on the lease/fencing proposal is set for March 4 at Carnegie Town Hall Ensign Services has sold a major Dudley Park industrial investment with a 30 year leaseback The laundry service provider is banking $20.075 million for 2-4 Oxenham Street On 2.78 hectares at the north west corner of Exeter Terrace the holding contains 12,390 square metres of gross lettable area There is also significant hardstand and car parking built two five year options into the sale agreement The purchaser is a private investor; Colliers’ Paul Tierney, Gavin Bishop and Sean Thomson were the agents (story continues below) The sale comes two years since Peak Equities paid $16m for a neighbouring modern office/warehouse which has a head lease until 2035 to Spotless which recently sub-let it to the Department of Defence Last month, the laundry service provider offloaded neighbouring sites in Melbourne’s inner north Northcote Colliers’ Joe Kairouz and Robert Papaleo brokered that deal Subscribe to our newsletter at the bottom of this page A former property analyst and print journalist Marc is the publisher of realestatesource.com.au Forgot your password? (ABC News: Chris McLoughlin) Link copiedShareShare articleFour people have been hurt in an explosion at a house at Dudley Park in Adelaide's inner northern suburbs. Emergency crews rushed to the unit in Young Street about 2:20pm. The Metropolitan Fire Service said a small fire was out when crews arrived and it is believed a gas canister exploded. A 23-year-old man with serious burns to his arms and legs was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital. A 24-year-old woman, a 12-year-old boy and a 28-year-old man were also taken to hospital but police said their injuries were not life-threatening. Neighbour Bianca Hooper said she heard the blast and went outside to investigate. "I was just in the kitchen there, pretty much about to make a snack, when I heard a big bang and came out the front and the girlfriend was screaming, the house was on fire," she said.
