Eagle Vale High School principal Craig Butler said the local community was excited about the new sports facilities
“They think it’s wonderful that we’re supporting our kids and showing a commitment to the Macarthur area,’’ he said
“We are going to have kids who will become Olympic champions and professional athletes
we can allow them to manage their study so they don’t have to make a choice between academic success and sport

Eagle Vale High will be converted into a sports school under a state Labor Government
Opposition leader Chris Minns says the move would give budding sports stars in the growing South Western Sydney region the opportunity to hone their talent without having to travel long distances
the closest sports high school to the Macarthur area is Westfields Sports High in Fairfield
One-way public transport travel times range from one hour and 36 minutes from Campbelltown to two hours and 25 minutes from Camden
Some parts of Wollondilly do not have public transport options to Westfield Sports High
A sports high school at Eagle Vale would ensure students from the entire Macarthur region would have public transport access to the school within one hour. The upgrade will involve a new multi-purpose hall
sports oval improvements and changing room upgrades. This will enable the school to run the talented sports program (TSP) which is designed to cater for students who excel in sport
“We want children in South Western Sydney to have the best opportunities for success – whether that’s in academic fields
“Sport is such a big part of our culture it’s important that no matter where you live you have the same opportunities and access to excel.“A new sports high school means kids from south west and Western Sydney get an opportunity to fulfil their sports dreams.”
The announcement by Mr Minns has been welcomed by members of his Labor team in South Western Sydney
Member for Campbelltown Greg Warren said families in South Western Sydney should not have to travel hours just to get the same opportunities as others
Member for Macquarie Fields Anoulack Chanthivong pointed out that the Macarthur region has produced exceptional athletes including the like of league superstar James Tedesco
“By creating a new sports school at Eagle Vale we will see the next generation of sporting talent develop through this region,” he said
Labor candidate for Leppington Nathan Hagarty noted that with Macarthur FC Bulls and the Wests Tigers playing in elite competitions
children in South Western Sydney are aspiring to be like the sports heroes they see every weekend

a Labor Government would build new high schools in Gledswood Hills and Gregory Hills

a pool and an outdoor entertaining area “large enough for family get togethers”
it also has good access to public transport
the property was once called home by serial killer Ivan Milat – a fact that selling agent Sue Parkes from Century 21 Realty said shouldn’t be a big deal
[the media] are making a mountain out of a mole hill,” she said
“The home has been very much loved for the last 20 years.”
The Eagle Vale house was built by Milat and his brother Walter in the early 1990s for their sister Shirley Soire
Milat, now 71, stored firearms in the ceiling, along with some camping equipment and clothing that once belonged to his victims. He was arrested at the property in May 1994, before he was convicted in 1996.
Ms Parkes said the vendors knew it had belonged to Milat’s sister when they bought it, and are selling because the property is too large for their needs.
The previous owners bought the home off Milat’s sister for $160,000 in 1995, and added the pool before selling it to the current vendors for $386,000.
Ms Parkes said the current owners, who have repainted the house, purchased it because of its location and size.
“The kitchen really sold them on the property, it’s a great home for entertaining,” she said. “It’s just time for them to downsize.”
The well-kept property might need a little updating to make it a modern home, but Ms Parkes said the good storage and great floor plan makes it a smart purchase.
“It’s a very lovely, comfortable home, someone could be proud to live there.”

This is not the only creative way that Eagle Vale Anglican is reaching its community
the saints have ramped up their evangelism game
with multiple initiatives running for their neighborhood throughout the week
Future ESL and life skills classes are on the cards
“These activities were chosen because

“We wanted to meet people where they were at and have regular contact..
so that there is time to develop trust and friendship
which is a good platform to share the gospel with people.”
the church-run self-defence group offers families the chance to affordably get fit together
“We wanted to start a class that was free – we only ask for a voluntary gold coin donation,” Mr Thurgar says

“We’ve gone through Mark’s gospel
and at the moment we are picking up Old Testament events and looking at how they relate to Jesus’ ministry
Last week we had 30 people come to karate class
and two-thirds stayed back for Bible time.”
With a class made up of many faith backgrounds and non-church people
Mr Thurgar finds this a huge encouragement
The classes have also provided opportunities for him to read the Bible with several men
and has even seen some families come to church
“It’s been a good ministry to just meet people and share our faith with them
what Jesus means to us and what the Bible says about Jesus,” he says
Also seeking to make the church more visible to the community

church members have open bibles and would one day love to see others join the discussions
“The hope is that they would meet people who go there regularly and that we can start a conversation with them and tell them a bit about Jesus,” Mr Thurgar says
“What we’re trying to do is see that Jesus’ name is glorified in our area
and we’re trying to do that by caring for people’s social
physical and spiritual needs in a Christian way

A house once owned by Australia's most notorious serial killer
is up for sale - with the real estate listing describing it as a 'stress free haven'
Milat's former home is in Eagle Vale, western Sydney, and is available for between $685,000 and $715,000, according to RealEstate.com.au.
'In this popular family neighborhood is this well presented home... a stress free haven on a sunny north facing block of approximately 562 square metres,' the property's online listing reads.
The listing also claims the house is close to local schools, the motorway and public transport.
Milat was arrested at the house in May 1994, after more than 50 police officers surrounded it to arrest the infamous killer.
'Souvenirs' and items that belonged to his victims were found stashed in the walls and roof, including a stove, sleeping bags and clothing.
Guns, knives and ammunition were also discovered in the western Sydney house.
The house has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and an outside entertaining area - and is just an hour away from the Belanglo State Forest, where Milat dumped the bodies of seven young backpackers he killed.
The first bodies discovered were British travellers Caroline Clarke and Joanne Walters, and they were found by runners in an area of the forest known as Executioners Drop.
His other victims were: Deborah Everist, James Gibson, Simone Schmidl, Anja Habschied, and Gabor Neugebauer.
Milat is currently serving seven life sentences for the killings, which took place between 1989 and 1993.

This was the first time in five years that Sarah Redfern High did not reach the statewide play- offs
They also have made it through to the quarter-finals of the Schoolboys Cup (previously called Arrive Alive Cup) and will play the champion school from Victoria in the next two weeks
They will bring a team big in size and who have physically tried to intimidate the sides they have played with great success
However they also possess outside backs with size and speed who have figured in the try scorers list for their team
They will present a huge challenge for the Dubbo College team
Dubbo College come into the game after a strong 48-10 win over Riverina champions Yanco High
However injuries have not been kind with captain EJ Fernando and half Matt Toole currently on the injured list
The forward pack will be a key to the chances of the Dubbo team with under-18 Country representative Jackson Merritt and CYMS under-18 star Tom Alchin needing to be strong for the team
David Hoyt and James McKinnon will all need to be at their best against a team looking to dominate in the physical exchanges
Captain Kieran Cubby-Shipp will look to lead the team with his electric attack and kicking game crucial for Dubbo
Charly Runciman and Jyie Chapman will provide important experience for the team
Perhaps the player to watch will be Corey Cox
He has been in dominant form in all the big wins the team has had in the year with faultless goal kicking and great finishing a feature of his game
However he has been much quieter in the games the team has lost this year
This game will be a good opportunity for Cox to show his talents against quality opposition
The match will be refereed by NSW Country’s number one whistle blower
He is sure to keep a tight rein over what promises to be an exciting clash
The winner of the match will take on Chifley College from Sydney in an away game
Other sides left in the University Shield include Farrar Agricultural High

It wasn’t that long ago that Raby Road was a goat track connecting Campbelltown Road and Camden Valley Highway
These days though Raby Road is a major arterial crossing to the Hume Highway for residents from Camden and the wider Macarthur region
It now also connects with Camden Valley Way at a second location
All this means that motorists who travel along Raby Road know that negotiating most of the intersections along the way requires patience and a lot of care
Two intersections stand out: at Spitfire Drive and Eagle Vale Drive
because that’s where most of the traffic is funnelled in this precinct
But turning into Spitfire Drive from Raby Road
is also a risky proposition because it’s a blind spot and there are no traffic lights
The same applies for the roundabout at the Raby Road and Eagle Vale Drive intersection
All that will soon be in the past because traffic lights will be installed at both intersections as part of a $7 million upgrade of Raby Road
“These upgrades will ensure more efficient and safer traffic flow on a road which has become an important connection for many people across the region travelling to work via the Hume Highway,” says Campbelltown mayor George Brticevic
“This upgrade is another step in ensuring our local road network assists with access into and across our city and the greater Macarthur region
providing improved connection to the health
education and commercial services we have to offer,” he said
“New tree plantings on the corner of Raby Road and Eagle Vale Drive will also enhance the visual appeal of the area and reflect the pride residents have in their local community.”
The upgrades were identified as part of a traffic
safety and scoping study conducted by council for the Raby Road precinct
It was also funded by the Local Roads Package and responds to feedback received by council from the community about traffic congestion in key connections across Campbelltown
The $7 million project is funded by the Federal Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan which aims to support population growth and access across the region
The upgrades are scheduled for completion by December next year
