There's a lot of pressure on a band kicking off an Australian Tour especially now we're starting to see the likes of Anniversary Tours and Album Milestones etc but UNDERØATH have a lot of pressure on them with their Rebirth Australian Tour their first tour back together again following a very public break up of sorts which saw the band almost completely unrecognisable with it's remaining members The night started relatively early with doors opening to mass crowd of skinny jean wearing show goers all keen to get their dose of Oath into them Supporting act sleepmakeswaves hit the stage shortly after 8pm amidst an alluring backtrack which slowly proceeded into a fast paced rock show This kept going for a few minutes and I couldn't help but wonder.. It wasn't until they stopped playing their second or third song that I realised "Oh they're a band that play music without lyrics!" Instrumental rock is the genre which don't get me wrong shows off their talent but it lacks attention The audience stood in awe of what seemed to be elevator music for a post-hardcore shop like Hot Topic or something but for me they didn't grab me enough due to the fact they didn't have words to accompany their songs Various punters told me they're similar to a band called Explosions in the Sky whom I had no idea about and due to the fact they also don't have a singer If you can get past that little factor you'll appreciate the energy these guys put into their set but for me the whole instrumental rock idea went over my head The whole point of the Rebirth Tour was a chance for fans to see and hear two of UNDERØATH's best releases back to back and that is exactly what we got to witness tonight Their show kicked off with 2004's They're Only Chasing Safety which to me They returned to the stage like no time had passed and were welcomed to a large crowd of fans keen to hear some of their favourite tracks "Young and Aspiring" started playing out and the band lost their shit jumping up and down and moving around like it was the end of the world tomorrow treating fans to a spectacle worth remembering At this point my eyes catch keyboardist/synth lord Christopher Dudley absolutely getting into more so than any other band members which can be quite hard for a guy who uses his fingers but seriously it was like the guy was trying so hard to please fans and fuck me Living In Black and White" brought out the singalongs which continued well into "The Impact of Reason" with both front-man Spencer Chamberlain and drummer Aaron on point with their screaming/singing combination "Reinventing Your Exit" started up and not one single person stood still Arguably Without a doubt the BEST song of their entire set left fans wanting more following everyone jumping around and moshing their little former emo hearts out but the show had to go on and literally just like someone had put on their actual cd we breeze through instrumental track "The Blue Note" and were greeted with yet another sing along with everyone giving their all yelling out "DROWNING IN MY SLEEP I'M DROWNING IN MY SLEEP" for "It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door" Upon it's end Spencer addresses the crowd for the first time in the evening talking about how it's been 5 or 7 years since they last played in Australia before telling the crowd the next song has never been played live until this tour and without a second to spare "Down Go" begins and the crowd welcomes it with open ears Rounding out the album "I Don't Feel Very Receptive Today" increases the energy in the room "I'm Content with Losing" shows how easily Spencer jumps between clean and unclean vocals effortlessly and the entire venue fills up with mobile phone lights as "Some Will Seek Forgiveness Others Escape" fades out act one of the band's set The stage fades to black and a loud creepy drone sound effect fills the room as the band prepare for the next instalment of the Rebirth Tour It literally feels like someone is changing CDs in a stereo as the band reemerge on stage ready to throw 2006's Define the Great Line down our throats beginning immediately with crowd favourite "In Regards To Myself" erupting the mosh into a frenzy as the band play without missing a beat or looking fatigued in anyway Its at this point I think for a second "Imagine if more religious groups were like this expressing their belief through music without hurting anyone The sheer effort these guys put into their shows proves they're back with a vengeance to stay in the limelight for years to come "A Moment Suspended in Time" and "There Could Be Nothing After This" set everyone off and once again hats off to Christopher Dudley for rocking his fingers the fuck out with his keyboard The only man I've ever witnessed getting into playing that thing on stage in front of 100's of people Spencer stops the show for a quick evaluation on where the band is/has been and the fact Define The Great Line is celebrating 10 years He tells fans they'll continue coming back for another 10 years hinting at a return to Australia in 2018 He then goes into the story we've been wondering what went wrong with UNDERØATH 4 years ago Tensions were high and they were at a point where "friendships were broken and they weren't the same band anymore" "The next 3 years were hell" for him but he feels that it was supposed to happen Since then "friendships have been rebuilt as well as the band and time heals all wounds He's back playing with his 5 best friends." Once the sappiness ended we were back on with the show and straight into "You're Ever So Inviting" with everyone screaming the opening words "The time has come for you to sit this out" with all 6 members bouncing off each other with big smiles on their faces As the rest of the album played out fans and attendees alike couldn't take their eyes from the stage The alluring nature in which this band play is something that captures your attention from start to finish As the band exited the stage they leave behind a crowd of pleased fans who never would have thought they'd see this line up again I guess the big question the rest of the country want to know is "Did UNDERØATH kill it tonight? Bloody ØATH! they did!" - Browny (@brownypaul) Facebook: Candace Krieger: PhotographerTwitter: @candacekriegerInstagram: @candacekrieger Tickets Here a new initiative has pedalled its way into the hearts of local families was inspired by her sons‘ eagerness to ride to school and the challenge of ensuring their safety This spark of inspiration led to the creation of the Eatons Hill Bike Bus a community-driven project aimed at promoting safe The idea took root when Mindy stumbled upon Sam Balto’s bike bus concept from Portland on Instagram she decided to introduce a similar initiative tailored to the unique needs of the Eatons Hill community Recognising the potential to transform local perceptions of children’s cycling behaviour Mindy’s Bike Bus operates with a simple yet effective system ensuring no child is left behind and assisting those still honing their riding skills with Louie enjoying a free ride on her bike The initiative is open to all children attending Eatons Hill State School with three designated stops to collect local riders Even some Warner and Cashmere residents drive their children to these stops Dedicated volunteers are what has brought Mindy’s brain child to life—and success Adrian—known affectionately as Bruiser—often helps by collecting the children’s bags in the afternoon ‘The kids love seeing him [Bruiser] waiting at the base of the hill and give many giggles throwing their bags at him on the way past.’ the reception from the local community has been overwhelmingly positive What started with Mindy‘s inner circle has expanded as more children join the Bike Bus each week greeted by toots and waves from supportive neighbours has added excitement and joy to the daily commute ‘I really feel like the community my husband and I fell in love with has proven time and time again why raising our family in Eatons Hill was the best decision we could have ever made,’ Mindy reflects The Bike Bus has also fostered new friendships among the children Students from different grades who might not have interacted otherwise now share a special bond They wave and cheer each other on at school breaking down barriers and creating a supportive network This increased interaction helps children feel more connected and confident But that’s not all—Mindy has big plans for the future of the Bike Bus and she hopes to expand the number of volunteers to accommodate more riders Potential route extensions are also on the horizon aiming to include stops closer to Queen Elizabeth Drive ensuring all children can participate safely The ‘Rider of the Week’ award recognises children who demonstrate responsibility Winners receive an award and get to pick a prize from the prize box Mindy is also seeking support from local businesses to offer additional incentives fostering a sense of community involvement and recognition Mindy wants to instil valuable life skills in the children ‘I want them to experience firsthand the outcomes that can occur when we choose to action something ourselves,’ she explains children learn the power of initiative and community action—lessons that extend far beyond the school commute Last Friday’s mantra was ‘practice makes progress’ emphasising the importance of continuous improvement over perfection These positive messages help build resilience and a growth mindset among the young riders The Eatons Hill Bike Bus is more than just a way to get to school—it‘s a movement that fosters community spirit it continues to embody the values of safety making Eatons Hill an even better place to live and raise a family Hats off (and helmets on) to local legend Mindy For more details, visit the Eatons Hill Bike Bus on Facebook or Instagram or email Mindy here Be the first to know about local news and events   Echo News is bound by the Standards of Practice of the Australian Press Council If you believe the Standards may have been breached you may approach Echo News or make a complaint to the Australian Press Council in writing at www.presscouncil.org.au The Council may also be contacted on 1800 025 712 Alpha Wolf‘s curated music festival experience made it’s triumphant debut in Brisbane for a hot and sweaty day of indoor moshing, markets and mayhem. must-see opportunity for Aussie fans like myself So I was stoked that the already rescheduled Brisbane date finally got the go ahead Opening up the night were local metal/hardcore upcomers Nerve Damage you could tell how passionate this group were about spreading their politically-infused brand of hardcore into as many ears as possible Hailing from the Yugambeh/Bundjalung lands vocalist Shaun Allen in particular articulated his passion towards issues close to home They set the scene for what was to be a momentous evening The Melbourne metalcore group brought the biggest moshpit party Eatons Hill has ever seen… or as it looked Their legion of fans rushed to the front of the stage in droves and tonight frontman Jack Bergin put on one of their best live performances I’ve witnessed thus far this was my third Void of Vision show in the space of two months (following Knight & Day and their surprise appearance at Alpha Wolf a few weeks back) I’ve been enjoying their manic blend of nu-metalcore more with each show that comes 10/10 a band everyone needs to experience live The diversity of bands that The Amity Affliction/Live Nation had put on for this event was topnotch which was then followed by a top-tier metalcore act who are currently sweeping the nation It felt like a mini-festival and reminded me of 2019’s Heaven & Hell Festival at the Riverstage The ample amounts of fans wearing their Amity shirts loud and proud just kinda increased the excitement tenfold throughout the entire evening Brissie rockers WAAX gave fans a taste of unapologetic punk rock Frontwoman Maz DeVita effortlessly owns the stage and holds an infectious attitude that’s bound to rub off onto anyone that comes across her If they felt outta place amongst the metal-clad lineup the band sure as shit didn’t show it nor care A huge highlight of their stage time included a fucking cool cover of My Chemical Romance’s ‘Teenagers’ to which the crowd showed much enthusiasm with a good ol' emo singalong When The Amity Affliction finally took to the stage though As soon as the white sheet dropped to reveal the internationally renowned four-piece and they kicked off with the opening bars of ‘Don’t Lean On Me’ Out of all the times I’ve seen the band live where a group of fans beside me in the pit got together towards the end during “I'm not searching the sky for a reason to live 'cause I found beauty right here and found the passion to give…” for what was a wholesome moment Joel Birch gave his first speech about looking out for another and mental health which made for the ideal segue into the live debut of ‘Like Love’ and that heavy breakdown towards the end was borderline insanity https://www.instagram.com/p/CZqpqAxjCZG/ Their entire performance proved to be the band’s strongest yet despite it being their first headliner in two years Giving us a combination of new and old songs from their extensive catalogue I would go as far to say that the night had something for every kind of Amity fan tonight As the closing bars of ‘D.I.E.’ slowly merged into the title track of 2012’s Chasing Ghosts While they brought in tracks from albums as far back as 2012 the biggest surprise came with the epic return of ‘Youngbloods’ (2010) which I don’t think I’ve ever heard live myself although I did notice that this song in particular didn't hit quite as hard as their newer releases like ‘Give Up the Ghost’ guitarist Dan Brown and drummer Joe Longobardi have matured and are putting their focus on more current tracks and their future It should also be mentioned that due to issues with him getting over to Australia from his native USA instead Ocean Grove’s Sam Bassall stepped up to the drums and he absolutely filled the spot with precision and professionalism https://www.instagram.com/p/CZqERVFgF8h/ As the band reappeared for one final time for their encore performance of ‘Soak Me in Bleach’ I couldn’t help but feel absolutely elated from the performance it felt pretty fucking amazing to see Amity live on stage again and this show will most definitely go down in the history books and I personally wouldn’t change a thing about this show — there was something in it for fans from all eras of the band’s existence Which just proves how much of a staple they've become in Australian metalcore with a massive legion of fans behind them Review by Tamara "I would like to try to make it at least every 8 to 9 months to get back We'll definitely not wait 6 years!" 2018Supports: These Four Walls and The Flynn Effect Last Night Seether made their return to Brisbane to play songs from their new album Poison The Parish (our review here) and give fans a night of rock alongside locals These Four Walls and Flynn Effect In what could only be described as one of the most interesting line up gigs of 2016 Pierce the Veil's Australian Tour kicked things off in Brisbane at Eatons Hill Hotel amidst a collection of over 18 fans and a massive array of underagers (majority of them female) hanging out ready to watch some great bands including Beartooth hardcore veterans Silverstein and Australia's very own Storm the Sky As an "older" fan of 3 quarters of the line up it was going to be harder for me to be completely impressed by all the acts however they managed to catch my attention for the entire evening and we'll start things with Melbourne act Storm the Sky After 7pm the boys hit the stage to approximately just under a half filled venue and began showcasing material from their latest release Sin Will Find You as well as their previous critically acclaimed album Permanence and judging by the audience who showed up to check them out Their newer songs sounded much heavier in person than first expected following the departure of their unclean vocalist however the reigns were taken on board (quite fittingly well) by front-man William Jarrett who managed to grab everyone's attention with his blend of both clean and unclean vocals while the rest of the band played their best to keep the crowd hooked and wanting more The ongoing theme of the night for myself was "Damn I wish these guys were playing longer" because just as we all seemed to get into the band that was playing it was time for them to wrap things up and make way for the next act Storm the Sky left the stage to a round of applause from all across the venue The time between setting up for the next act and when the band hit the stage seemed to go on forever well actually to be honest the next act was the main band I was so unbelievably stoked/pumped to be seeing again since discovering them for the first time last year Around 7:45pm Beartooth took to the stage and the crowd of eagerly awaiting fans collectively lost their shit First song up was "The Lines" and although it was early in the evening around half of the audience managed to get up off their feet to welcome the Ohio act back to our shores but the room wasn't at their full potential even though front-man Caleb Shomo was egging them on to get moving I always feel for bands who try to get everyone involved yet have to deal with a lacklustre effort however the boys played to perfection and moved on though their 8 track set list following up with crowd favourite "Beaten in Lips" sending the back half of the mosh into a windmilling/expression hardcore dancing frenzy Title track from their new album "Aggressive" up next which managed to pick up the mood and spirits of all those watching with many fans at the back pushing their way as close to the barrier as possible Next we moshed our way though "Hated" which at times sounded a little softer than the previous few songs however the levels were fixed towards the end of the song and we were back on track for a great night again That was until "Dead" began and it became obvious during the song we had some guitar problems but without making a big song and dance about the issues the band tried their best to resolve the situation and move on with the song Unfortunately the hiccup wasn't fixed straight away but the rest of the band came together to make it work even including a drum solo by touring drummer Connor Denis who managed to captivate the audience enough to take the focus away as the techs resolved the problem quicker than you could finish your drink between songs "Fair Weather Friend" got everyone jumping again and the vibe was back on track as Caleb informed us the band had only two songs left and we were to not stop moving until the end of their set "In Between" started a sing-a-long of sorts for those who knew the lyrics (not many from what it seemed close up) but that didn't stop the big fans from running into each other singing at the top of our lungs The band wrapped up their short (like very short they needed at least another hour or so added) with "Body Bag" after Caleb Shomo announced to the crowd that when he screamed the numbers 1-2 we all had to scream back 1-2-3-4 and instantaneously the biggest circle pit of the whole night was formed and seemed to continue for half of the song From there the small amount of punters from the pit collectively lost their shit as the band played the fastest and heaviest song of their full set which they somehow dragged on as long as possible for everyone to lose their breath and make the most of the band's short time on stage panting and applauding Beartooth as they headed off stage and out of our lives again For those who thought that would be the end of the heavier sounding acts of the night they were certainly wrong when Canadian hardcore legends Silverstein hit the stage to a large applauding venue which almost doubled in size of attendance and the hard rock was back again for the hungry fans Second song "Sacrifice" kept the momentum flowing with no signs of the guys slowing down anytime soon and older (aka loyal) fans welcomed the bands earlier song "Massachusetts" with open arms and loud cheers It was around this time I looked up at the balcony attendees (the underagers) who when I thought about the band's career may not have even been born yet when that song was released Their lack of enthusiasm also highlighted the fact the Canadian band may have been a wrong choice to open for the headliners Pierce the Veil but the genre legends continued on playing with precision and were feeding off the fans in the crowd who egged them on and made the guys feel at home A circle pit was formed again during the song "I Am The Arsonist" but it was the band's newer song "Milestones" which managed to bring the fast and furious vibe back to the venue Following on from this front-man Shane Told jumped down from the stage (failing in the process and hitting the ground between the stage and the barrier) only for him to jump back up and straight into the crowd to get closer to those fans loving every second of his performance Silverstein kept the heavy rock going for their final song of the set and as the exited the stage it seemed as if everyone had finally come around to their set and gave them the support the rightfully deserved with a round of applause heard across the venue (including upstairs with the youngins) Pierce the Veil began their headlining tour when guitarist Tony Perry entered the stage and opened up his guitar case to a bright light shining our (very Pandora's Box style) and the rest of the band joined him amongst an ear piercing scream session from everyone in sight The band opened with "Dive In" and we were treated to lights smoke and confetti eruptions all within a matter of minutes Seamlessly playing though "Caraphernelia" too I at times wondered how many of the punters would lose their voices halfway though the set Front-man Vic Fuentes oozed with the kind of sex appeal a newer generation of gig attendees could only adore as he sang effortlessly while the rest of the band behind him played to perfection while jumping across the stage (or in Mike Fuentes' case By song #3 everyone needed a second to catch their breath but it wasn't going to happen as Vic announced the next song is the fastest song they've ever written and "Texas Is Forever" created a pit of energy which managed to keep everyone actively jumping around until just after halfway through with the energy from the fans subsiding towards the end As the band caught their breath back Vic addressed the crowd stating this was the band's first club show in Australia in about 6 years and how they always love coming down to Australia to play for fans (more screaming followed) and the guys went straight into newer song "The Divine Zero" from their latest record Misadventures which surprisingly was a hit amongst the crowd The San Diego four piece then asked the crowd of screaming fans who would like to join them onstage and I immediately thought "The last time a band at Eatons Hill called for girls to jump on stage was Steel Panther and we all know how that went down..." but this wasn't that kind of show and a girl by the name of Jess was the lucky fan who sat in a chair and was serenaded by Vic Fuentes as they started playing "Bulletproof Love" Following this the boys got into "Floral & Fading" before slowing things right down for an acoustic jam of "Kissing in Cars" a song that wasn't supposed to be heard by any fan It was written for a friend of the band's wedding however it slowly became part of their set Dive InCarapherneliaTexas is ForeverThe Divine ZeroBulletproof Brisbane days before Queenslanders head to the polls.  Coalition Leader Peter Dutton has joined Sky News Australia host Paul Murray in front of a live Brisbane audience on Wednesday evening before Queenslanders cast their ballots at the state election this weekend Queenslanders will select Premier Steven Miles or Liberal National Party Leader David Crisafulli to lead the state while the Federal Election looms on the horizon in early next year Mr Dutton took questions from Murray and various audience members at the Eatons Hill Hotel on a variety of topics including Senator Lidia Thorpe the upcoming elections and the importance of ministers keeping their promises Mr Dutton said it was "entirely predictable" Ms Thorpe would perform "some stunt" in the presence of King Charles adding the government "should have been prepared for it" due to their slow response to her tantrum in the Great Hall of Parliament House Mr Dutton said Ms Thorpe needed to honour her oath but it was up to the Australian people to "vote her out" which is quite a phenomenal statement," Mr Dutton said Mr Dutton told young people to listen to their mothers and fathers and that he was taught a good work ethic and to respect people older than him The Coalition Leader shared how one of his friends said "you look better with longer hair," which he joked was not something he could help you've got to make the call yourself," he said Mr Dutton said there was a "natural instinct" some people have in leadership settings The Coalition Leader said good prime ministers are able to delegate well while bad prime ministers have "40 balls in the air by Tuesday" Mr Dutton said Australia would be in a "hell of a mess" if the Voice went through as it would have caused roadblocks for all kinds of parliamentary developments "It would have given rise to a really angry reaction from the public and rightly so because people would have felt deceived," Mr Dutton said "To this day the Prime Minister hasn't been honest with the Australian people about the Voice about the true extent of its application." Mr Dutton said there were multiple ways to ensure young people were guarded against the dark side of social media and the adult content and "grooming" which takes place online "We have a responsibility to provide a safe environment," Mr Dutton said The Coalition Leader said there was an opportunity to see what an incoming Education Minister could do to review the curriculum and the "indoctrination" in the classroom "Parents will always have the primary responsibility but nonetheless when we send our kids to school we expect them to receive an education Mr Dutton said the government needed a purpose and time to develop a plan for governance they won't be making promises unless they genuinely believe they can carry through on the commitment," he said "Breaking that trust with the Australian public can be catastrophic in the relationship you have with them." Mr Dutton said the Labor campaigning machine could not talk about achievement and outcomes and instead resorted to "distractions" "There will be people Labor win over with this lie and their devious campaign "But I think most people will see through it." Mr Dutton said Premier Steven Miles was only trying to distract people from "his own failings" Mr Dutton said many Australians were barely hanging on and were desperately hoping for interest rates to come down adding a lot of families and businesses would continue to struggle "It is a very difficult time and I don't think we should understate it," Mr Dutton said The Coalition leader said if Labor are re-elected Australia would "very quickly" see a change in Prime Minister "I think Jim Chalmers is biting at the bit at the moment Tanya Plibersek sees herself as the next alternative Tony Burke out there Please enable JS and disable any ad blocker Four-time GRAMMY-nominated band The Fray is bringing their highly anticipated “How to Save a Life” 20th Anniversary Tour to Australia this December   These shows are part of an extensive global tour and will celebrate their timeless debut album giving fans the chance to relive the music that defined a generation The tour will kick off in Perth at Metro City on Wednesday before moving to Brisbane’s Eatons Hill Hotel and concluding in Melbourne at the Forum on Sunday Fans can gain early access to tickets through the artist presale which begins at 10:00 AM (local time) on Thursday General public ticket sales will start at 10:00 AM (local time) on Tuesday Thursday 27TH March 10.00am > Tuesday 1st April 9.00am (local time) available here Friday 28th March 10.00am > Tuesday 1st April 9.00am (local time) available here Tuesday 1st April 10.00am (local time) available here New Zealand reggae group L.A.B are set to return to Australia in 2025 in support of their new album They’ll be joined on their tour by an all-star cast of New Zealand openers - Stan Walker playing Eatons Hill Outdoors with Corrella and Taane on February 8 HOTA in the Gold Coast can expect the same lineup on February 15 L.A.B will then play the brand-new Over The Ditch festival in Newcastle on February 23 before heading to Adelaide’s Hindley Street Music Hall with Corrella and Taane on March 1.  Perth’s HBF Stadium on March 2 will be the last show with Taane on the bill who will play the final two shows of the tour alongside Corrella and L.A.B at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion on March 8 It’s been two years since an L.A.B Aussie tour “Stoked to announce six headline shows + the Over The Ditch festival in Newcastle.. Hi Bich and Gucci Flip Flops see the setlist to an end with Bregoli freestyling with no backing track, calling out Iggy Azalea. “A performance that needs to be seen to truly understand what an unusual experience it is, it's not only entertaining but surprisingly good. Thank you, Bhad Bhabie!” It’s festival season in Australia and prior to the antics we’ll all get up to at Good Things Festival along the East Coast this weekend several bands have arrived early to give us a sneak peek and Brisbane scored the ONLY I Prevail sideshow which was a surprise none of us saw coming but we Queenslanders lapped it up like a 6-pack of Milton mangoes But before getting into last night’s review of their sweaty third headline show in Brisbane I need to pivot and tell you the story about how I discovered these metalcore gems from Detriot My brother Jesse (who I care for/venture to many gigs with) first told me about them on the back of their Taylor Swift cover and Heart vs Mind EP in 2014 and since then we’ve both been hooked We made a pact that any time they came to town singing/screaming like no one was watching It’s the one place in the world he loves being immersed in because no one bats an eyelid at him or treats him any differently because of his disability he knows the words to every single song and last year he got to meet the band while assisting on the set of Wall Of Sound TV – something he’s been an integral part of since its earliest conception we were met with his first-ever roadblock since turning 18 (12 years ago) when two security guards employed by the NSRG Security group accused him of using a fake ID The ID in question was a government-issued 18+ card he’d received back in 2011 and has been using ever since without issue including many visits to concerts at Eatons Hill over the years Despite my efforts to explain the situation to them they remained adamant with their arrogant and staunch demeanour talking down at us and not listening to anything I had to say (as Jesse’s primary caregiver) we were offered to be escorted to the underage mezzanine section to watch the show but this also meant we weren’t able to access the merch desk where he was hoping to purchase a tour shirt as he had done each time the band visited Australia this kind of discrimination happens quite often for people with a disability and usually goes unnoticed or addressed Wall Of Sound will always use our presence in the scene to call this kind of behaviour out so everyone can enjoy watching their favourite bands without barriers Both the venue and security have been contacted for comment Eatons Hill Hotel venue owner and promoter Destroy All Lines have both since issued personal apologies for the incident calling out the ‘appalling behaviour’ by security it sadly put a dampener on the start of the evening and we both missed The Plot In You because we were addressing what had happened Stand out songs from what we did hear included ‘Face Me‘ with that alluring melodic delivery from frontman Landon Tewers and the sing-along-inducing finale ‘FEEL NOTHING‘ Make sure to get in early at Good Things to catch this powerhouse post-hardcore act dominate so did the number of parents bringing kids along to the show The section we found ourselves watching had no less than 8 kids jumping around and taking in the sights as I Prevail hit the stage wasting no time getting heavy with ‘Bow Down‘ and ‘Body Bag‘ delivering the goods The mosh by this point already looked hotter than hell as punters swayed in the crush with several bros taking off their shirts while bouncing into each other and taking attention away from the stage with their antics including unnecessary row pits I Prevail infamously broke onto the scene with their Swifty cover but three different covers throughout the course of the evening The first being Limp Bizkit‘s ‘Break Stuff‘ which had screamer Eric Vanlerberghe amping up the crowd for this weekend’s festivities (where Limp are also playing) and to segue into their killer track ‘Come and Get It‘ in an absolutely genius move I can’t help but applaud the boys for https://www.instagram.com/p/C0MPIBcSWzV/The second cover was System of a Down‘s ‘Chop Suey‘ which kept the crowd moving just shy of the hallway mark and Slayer’s ‘Reign In Blood‘ intro was performed leading into their riff-heavy track ‘Judgement Day‘ I would have killed for a section of ‘Blank Space‘ to be played but since the band retired it from their sets the heavier tunes were a worthy replacement Non-stop hit after hit (predominantly tracks from latest album True Power) including a sea of middle fingers in the air for ‘FWYTYK‘ which served as a personal calming mechanism from the evening’s earlier disruptions to the phone’s out anthem ‘Deep End‘ resulting in a sea of lights bobbing around during the melancholy section of the night also including a sombre rendition of ‘Breaking Down‘ where singer Brian Burkheiser shared stories of his recent struggle with imposter syndrome The crowd gave him a boost of confidence as the band wrapped up the evening with ‘Choke‘ and the song for the OG fans ‘Scars‘ before returning for one final body mover in the form of ‘Gasoline‘ I Prevail once again proved why they’re one of the scene’s greatest and have only got better at owning the stage with every visit to Australia Special shoutout to guitarist Steve Menoian and the awe-inspiring guns show he brought with the bulky arms he’s sporting these days After witnessing the lads at Download UK earlier in the year, you’re in for a treat when they take to the stage at Good Things Festival – which will be the band’s last trip down under for a while (as they prepare for new music) so make sure it’s a worthy send off to make them come back quicker Gig Review by Paul ‘Browny’ Brown @brownypaul Bow DownBody
