One man remains at large more than 15 hours after the Tuesday morning pursuit, and police have released CCTV footage of a man they wish to speak with. About 1.30am on Tuesday, police went to a home on Calaria Close in Edensor Park after reports that two men armed with guns were attempting to break into the property. The resident, whom police allege has links to organised crime groups, was not home at the time. CCTV footage shows a white Hyundai parked in a residential street on Calaria Close in Edensor Park. A man wearing a mask, black hoodie, track pants and black gloves closes the car door, approaches the house and is seen attempting to kick down the door. Police say the men left in a Hyundai sedan, which a short time later was spotted by police travelling on Cowpasture Road in Hinchinbrook. When the men refused to pull over, police began a pursuit. The driver was behaving so erratically on the roads that the initial chase was abandoned, police said. A short time later, the car was spotted again on St James Road in Varroville. Another chase was initiated, and in the course of the pursuit, the passenger leant out of the window and fired multiple shots at a police car. Two of the shots hit the vehicle, police said, but the police officer and police dog inside were unharmed. Police deployed road spikes, and shortly after the car ran off the road and crashed. Inside, police allege they found three guns – one longarm gun and two handguns. The driver, a 20-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Campbelltown police station. He was charged with nine offences including possessing or using a military-style weapon without a permit, possessing an unauthorised pistol, possessing a loaded firearm in a public place, and special aggravated break and enter with intent and armed with a dangerous weapon. He was refused police bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday. The passenger was able to escape into nearby bushland, triggering a major police operation with dozens of officers including heavily armed tactical units – including the NSW Police Bearcat armoured vehicle – combing the area. The search was abandoned by 10am when no trace of the man was found. Deputy Commissioner Peter Thurtell said the man on the run is probably armed. “This was a very dangerous situation where the lives of our police officers were put at risk,” he said. “Of the two projectiles that hit the vehicle, one of them hit the wheel arch and another one hit the grille. Police said they seized more than 50kg of drugs from a box trailer in Sydney's south-west. Link copiedShareShare articleA Sydney man charged after the seizure of $20 million worth of drugs and eight guns will remain behind bars until at least March. To Hoai An Thach, 27, was arrested last week after the items were allegedly found at a home and inside a car and box trailer parked several streets away at Edensor Park in Sydney's west. Drug squad detectives allege they found 50kg of drugs, including 14kg of heroin and 6kg of amphetamine tablets. It is also alleged they found eight firearms including an Uzi machine gun, an assault rifle and silencer, four handguns, two shortened shotguns and assorted ammunition. Police said one of the guns had been identified as a Glock pistol imported from Germany several years ago. Thach, from Greenfield Park, was charged with 20 offences, including supplying a large commercial quantity of a prohibited drug. He did not apply for bail when the matter was heard at Campbelltown Local Court, and it was formally refused. Court documents show police opposed bail because of concerns Thach, a Malaysian-born Australian citizen, could flee the country. The documents said Thach held an Australian passport, but police could not establish whether he also held a Malaysian passport. Police allege Thach is a "frequent" overseas traveller with access to tens of thousands of dollars, and officers had intercepted telephone conversations that confirmed Thach had sold large amounts of drugs. Thach is scheduled to appear in court again in March. The car and trailer where the drug and weapons haul was discovered have been towed to a police holding yard for further investigation. The Glock pistol was found in a box trailer along with other firearms and drugs at Edensor Park. In the 3’ minute Luka Glavas broke free down the right flank and charged into the box only to find James Chronopoulos waiting to diligently block his shot. It was the opening salvo of the game. In the 11’ minute Marconi responded through Sean O’Connell who blasted his shot just wide of the intended target and a minute later Mitchell Stamatellis fired just over the crossbar for the home side. In the 30’ minute Marconi opened the scoring. Matthew Thompson, recently signed from Sydney FC, scored a brilliant header in the box after receiving a stupendous cross from the left from his brother Mitchell Thompson. It was a clinical finish by the experienced A-League player in his new adventure with Marconi. A free kick from O’Connell in the 39’ minute hit the side netting as the Stallions went in search of an equaliser. However, in the 41’ minute Sydney United equalised the ledger when Stamatellis danced his way past opponents into the box and cleverly slotted the ball home with a nice diagonal finish. In the 43’ Stjepan Paric fired a shot across the face of goal and it narrowly sailed wide of the post and it could have been two for the home side just before the beak. In the second half in the 50’ minute Matthew Thompson broke free down the right and Diego Barcena in goals made a good reflex save. In the 65’ minute O’Connell from outside the box brought out the best in Barcena who turned a very powerful shot just wide of the box. It was a close chance for the visitors. In the 70’ minute though Luka Glavas did bring Sydney United ahead after receiving a nice long ball forward and in clinical fashion he found the top of the net. Marconi didn’t wait too long to level again because in the 75’ minute a square ball from the right found Milorad Simonovic who easily found the back of the net. In the 77’ minute from a corner Thompson scored after Barcena appeared to drop the ball under pressure and Marconi had taken the lead again. In the 84’ Marco Sama dragged the ball back into the area for Zakeriya El-Rich who fired into goal and Barcena turned it away for a corner. Shortly afterwards at the other end Mitchell Speer fired just wide of the post as the Sydney United faithful desperately wanted the equaliser. It was to be the last real chance of the game. After the game Marconi coach Darren Iocca was very pleased to pick up all three points away. “I was very pleased to win a game away from home especially at the moment because we are doing it a bit tough,” he said. “We knew that we would come here with a well-structured team defensively and it was going to be a tough one. “I was very pleased with the way we acted in the second half. Matty Thompson has made a huge difference for us especially with his experience and he’ll just get better especially as he gets to know the players.” Meanwhile, Sydney United 58 FC assistant coach Jerry Bilokapic was very disappointed with the result. “Yes, very disappointed because I thought that we had the majority of the game, we had chances and again we let a lead slip,” he said. “It was very positive that we created chances but we are always disappointed with the loss and there are not many positives out of it and we’ll get better.” We’re sorry, this feature is currently unavailable. The vehicle was then caught on fire just moments after it pulled down power lines during the collision - as the homeowners escaped unharmed. Witnesses have told police the car was being driven at speed when it smashed into the property, causing significant damage to the house on Momosa Road. Nearby resident Herman Luna said he dragged the driver out of the wreckage after the chaotic scene unfolded. 'I came out and tried to see if anyone was okay... making sure if anyone else was in the room,' he told 9 News. 'And I was talking to the driver, he was like erratic. An officer joined me to see what was going on, see if there was any fire to the car. 'We dragged him out and he had to be restained.' Two residents escaped unharmed, while a 33-year-old driver was taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory testing. He has non-life threatening injuries. Fire & Rescue NSW Urban Search and Rescue also attended the scene to stabilise the building as it suffered significant structural damage in the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
