The new two-storey branch includes a five-bay ambulance garage, six rest and recline areas for paramedics to recuperate, training facilities, a fully equipped kitchen and improved security and car parking.
The project involved demolishing and rebuilding the previous ambulance branch from the 1990s to provide new, modern amenities that meet the paramedics’ needs.
The branch is home to 35 paramedics and has been operational since mid-November.
Alongside the Epping Ambulance Unit, the new branch also houses the South Morang Ambulance Unit, Woodstock Ambulance Unit and the Epping Clinic Car.
AV Executive Director, Specialist Operations and Coordination Anthony Carlyon first appointment as a senior team Manager was at Epping where the team expanded after the 2009 wildfires to serve the communities of Epping, Whittlesea and King Lake and said it’s great to see the area receive such a welcome upgrade.
“I look back on my time at the Epping branch in 2009 fondly and remember the wonderful team I worked with during those years” he said.
“It will always hold a special place in my heart and it’s great to see the crews get a new branch that will support them to serve the community well into the future.”
The Epping team attends more than 560 emergency call outs a month and covers one of the largest local government areas in metropolitan Melbourne.
The updated branch provides space for the service to grow as needed to meet the needs of the rapidly growing community.
The branch was funded by the Victorian Government’s Ambulance Victoria Development Program and delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority (VHBA) in partnership with Ambulance Victoria (AV), and builder, Bowden Corporation.
In 2023-24, eleven stations were completed: Inglewood, Gisborne, Rochester, Clyde North, Avoca, Paynesville, Oak Park, Craigieburn (Yuroke), Karingal (Langwarrin), Epping and Morwell.

The Epping Road Upgrade has rebuilt historic dry-stone walls to help maintain local heritage while working to delivering safer
more-reliable travel in Melbourne’s north
The project team called in specially trained experts to rebuild the walls using traditional methods at 3 sites in Wollert
With the original walls dismantled to make way for new lanes as part of the upgrade
the specialist wallers expertly reassembled them from the original basalt stones
The painstaking process involved fitting together the variously sized stones to rebuild the walls without using wet binding materials such as grout or mortar
Each of the walling specialists involved was qualified for the job with an International Certificate of Craftsmanship in Dry Stone Walling
is located on the north side of Lehmanns Road
The wall beside Lehmanns Road was rebuilt over 8 weeks earlier this year
The others were finished in October after 6 weeks of work
Dry-stone walling is regarded as one of the oldest trades in the world
The sturdy walls have been built in rural and urban areas throughout Europe
Africa and the Americas for thousands of years
Victoria's dry-stone walls are considered European heritage because they reflect aspects of the agricultural
economic and social life at the time of settlement
The walls began appearing in Australia following the arrival of European migrants
who were typically from countries with long histories of dry-stone walling
Dry-stone walls were commonly used in the past to form land allotment boundaries or to contain livestock
reducing the need for shepherds on pastoral estates
the builders of dry-stone walls in the Wollert area used weathered basalt found on the ground’s surface
the use of the surface stones helped clear paddocks to increase livestock feed growth
The Epping Road Upgrade is adding extra lanes and improving intersections between Craigieburn Road East in Wollert and Memorial Avenue in Epping
The project will also build sections of shared walking and cycling paths and new on-road bicycle lanes to improve safety and connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists
more-reliable journeys for the 35,000 drivers who use Epping Road daily in Melbourne’s north
MRPV is delivering the Epping Road Upgrade with construction partner McConnell Dowell
More information about the Epping Road Upgrade is available on the Epping Road Upgrade project page.
A major upgrade is underway in Wollert as crews begin significant works at the intersection of Linfield Parade and Epping Road– part of a $131 million investment aimed at easing congestion and improving safety for the 35,000 drivers who use the key arterial each day.
The works mark a fresh milestone in the Epping Road Upgrade project, with northbound lanes set to be rebuilt, a new median and kerbs installed, and critical drainage, lighting, safety barriers and traffic signals added.
The state government’s goal is smoother, safer, and more reliable travel between Wollert and Epping.
“We look forward to improving Linfield Parade’s intersection with Epping Road, which is vital to the project’s goal of safer and more- reliable travel between Wollert and Epping,” said Major Road Projects Victoria program director Dipal Sorathia.
To allow the works to proceed safely, Linfield Parade is closed at Epping Road until early July.
However, access remains available via Lyndarum Drive and De Rossi Boulevard, with delays of up to five minutes expected.
Access to nearby Baltrum Drive is also temporarily changing.
Vehicles travelling northbound on Epping Road will need to use Pine Park Drive to reach Baltum Drive, while access for southbound traffic remains unchanged.
The intersection’s traffic lights will be turned off during works, but businesses along Baltrum Drive will remain open.
The Fulham Way/Epping Road bus stop will also be temporarily closed, with route 356 passengers redirected to Pine Park Drive.
Once the intersection is complete, Linfield Parade will reopen in a temporary format until the final phase of the Epping Road Upgrade– widening northbound lanes between Craigieburn Road East and Lyndarum Drive– is finished.
The project will also deliver new shared-use paths for cyclists and pedestrians, alongside added lanes between Craigieburn Road East and Memorial Avenue.
“We thank the community for its patience as we continue working to deliver the Epping Road Upgrade,” Mr Sorathia said.
The works are being delivered by Major Road Projects Victoria in partnership with construction company McConnell Dowell.

The $26 million upgrade of Epping Pool is in hot water, with new information revealing a cost blowout of the much-anticipated project.
Whether its swimming carnivals or a successful community campaign to keep it off the Hornsby Shire Council chopping block pre-amalgamation, the Epping Aquatic Centre has always been considered a well-loved swimming hole among locals – even when it fell on tough times.
In 2024, swimming regulars were excited to take advantage of their last summer ahead of the pool’s closure to finally make way for an upgraded facility.
The long-awaited upgrades were slated to deliver more pool facilities, improved accessibility and a new family play area, while still retaining the unique character of the centre locals have come to love.
Like many residents, Parramatta Councillor and Deputy Lord Mayor Cameron Maclean learnt to swim at the Dence Park centre. He said he knows firsthand how important a local pool is to the community.
“Macquarie pool is, as the crow flies, close by, but it’s not by the time you get in the car or by the time you contend with the traffic on Epping Road,” the Councillor said.
“Epping Pool is the local pool for people who live immediately in this area, so I think people are missing it.”
Construction of the project was expected to take about 18 months to two years to complete, following the end of the 2024 swim season.
But commencement of the tender process has revealed a significant increase in construction costs that far exceed City of Parramatta’s project budget.
It’s led to the Council not accepting any of the tenders, bringing development of the project to a halt.
“At the 25 November 2024 Council Meeting, Council opted not to accept any tenders for the Epping Aquatic Centre following a significant increase in construction costs that has put the tenders beyond the approved project budget,” a City of Parramatta spokesperson told Parra News.
“Council is exploring options for the staged delivery of the endorsed concept design within allocated funding, to best deliver on the needs of the community.”
Discussed as a confidential matter during the meeting, it’s not known how much the construction costs exceed the initial budget.
As a “worst-case scenario,” Maclean added Council Officers are also investigating the costs of reopening the pool to the public sans any upgrades – saying, ultimately, “Epping needs a pool.”
“My commitment to an upgrade remains, but if it’s the case that there’s going to be some kind of lapse timeline associated with that then I think we should be investigating whether we can open the pool in some capacity sooner than that,” he said.
A report into the possibility of reopening the pool, as well as options for the staged delivery of the approved design, is expected to come back to Council in April.
Maclean understands residents’ concerns about the project stalling, but said he doesn’t envision a circumstance where the community doesn’t have a pool.
“This is a project that has been going on really since 2016, and when Parramatta Council took over this area a lot of people saw that as finally ensuring the security of the pool, because it had gone through, by that stage, years of uncertainty,” he added.
“We gave the community a lifeline, so I fundamentally believe we owe it to the community to deliver them a pool in Epping.”

A woman who allegedly attacked two Muslim women at a Melbourne shopping centre has been granted bail
despite police telling the court her criminal history constituted 130 charges including an attack on a woman wearing a hijab
appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday evening charged with intentionally and recklessly causing injury
unlawful assault and aggravated assault of two women at the Pacific Epping shopping centre last week
Police allege two women were targeted because they were wearing head coverings
Police allege Gonulalan attacked two women wearing hijabs at the shopping centre in Melbourne’s northern suburbs in separate incidents on February 13
leaving both traumatised and fearful of being in public
Police told the magistrate Gonulalan had a history of offences including threats to kill and contravention of a family violence order that made her an unacceptable risk to the community
“[Gonulalan] was walking past when she … approached the [first] victim from behind and pulled at her hijab,” police sergeant Leanne Parfett told the court
“The victim was extremely fearful due to being heavily pregnant
They said Gonulalan then walked around the shopping centre before approaching another woman – Ealaf Al-Esawie – and allegedly “slapped her” and pushed her
Both incidents lasted no longer than five seconds and were captured on CCTV
Parfett told the court the attacks had “caused outrage among the Muslim community” and that “the victims have personally expressed their concerns for their personal safety”
she said Gonulalan had previously been convicted for attacking a woman in a hijab in 2020
Gonulalan had bumped into the woman while leaving a health clinic and tried to strike her with a chair
She had also prevented a receptionist from calling police
For that assault and other previous offences
Gonulalan was in August 2021 sentenced to a community corrections order for 12 months
magistrate Justin Foster said he believed any potential sentence imposed against her might be shorter than the length of time she would spend on remand
He said Gonulalan was considered a vulnerable adult under the Bail Act
as she had mental health disorders that had developed after a car crash when she was 21
Foster said that while there was a risk of her reoffending
“I think there is a risk … but I think that the risk can be properly ameliorated,” he said
Gonulalan will be required to report once a week to Broadmeadows police station
engage with a court integrated services program
abide by a family violence order imposed earlier this year and not attend Pacific Epping shopping centre

Shepparton ultra-runners Peter Ralph and Vic Bovalino ran the equivalent of almost four full marathons back-to-back in less than 22 hours to arrive at Deakin Reserve early on Thursday morning
It was more than two hours quicker than they had predicted a couple of days earlier when they saw the weather was forecast to be unseasonably warm for this time of year
The pair set out from Epping at around 5.50am on Wednesday
and ran 161km in their Under the Same Stars spinoff event
to raise money for the same Salvation Army North East Youth Services youth homelessness cause
A group of their family and friends gathered at the gates to welcome them
while participants in the sleepout tossed and turned beneath makeshift cardboard teepees on their dampened cardboard mattresses spread across Deakin Reserve’s football oval
The runners shuffled in the gates at 3.41am
Mr Bovalino said they had taken turns experiencing highs and lows throughout their journey
he said he’d experienced a rough patch around Wahring
while his running companion had only begun to struggle around 5km from home
It was the first time either runner had attempted a 161km run before
with their next closest distance a far lesser
While this run puts a tick against a bucket list item
both agreed it was not a distance they would be attempting again any time soon
“We could not have done it without our support crew,” Mr Bovalino said
“They hand-fed us when we couldn’t hold anything
gave us drinks and made us eat when we didn’t want to eat
the cheeseburger at Seymour and various energy gels
they weren’t chasing food at the finish line
their appetites were for a hot shower and a long sleep

The winning bid of $2.55 million at auction on Saturday for a North Ryde home was placed by local investors who plan to knock down and rebuild
The two-bedroom, one-bathroom deceased estate at 9 Clarence Street had no guide

Withdrawn auctions are counted as unsold properties when calculating the clearance rate
It was one of 776 scheduled auctions in Sydney on Saturday
Cooley auctioneer Michael Garofolo said the slow start was probably due to a similar property in Ryde that was going to auction later that day

“There is absolutely no place in our society for discriminatory, racist or hate-based behaviour and such activity will not be tolerated,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
Ealaf Al-Esawie, who wears a hijab, said she had been living in fear since the alleged attack. The 26-year-old said she was randomly hit in the face and then pushed to the ground.
“I am terrified to go out, I am terrified to leave these four walls of my house, something I never thought I would say,” she told Guardian Australia on Monday.
“My mental and physical health is at zero, even below zero. Every day, it gets worse for me, it was so random it has traumatised me.”
She said she believed it was an Islamophobic attack.
