playWhy Nicol can't argue Liverpool's draw with Everton (1:04)Steve Nicol reacts to Liverpool's 2-2 draw in their matchup against Everton
Everton manager David Moyes has described his team's last-gasp 2-2 draw with Liverpool as a "fitting" way to mark the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park and admitted it was "mayhem" inside the stadium on Wednesday night
while Liverpool head coach Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff were also sent off
"It was mayhem all game," Moyes said in his post-match news conference
"It was a bit of an old-fashioned throwback in some ways
The bit after the game is not what we should be talking about
I do know Doucouré got a yellow card which saw him get a red
It was an incredible atmosphere inside the stadium."
David Moyes' Everton earned a dramatic late point from the last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park. Liverpool FC/Liverpool FC via Getty ImagesThe result sees Everton move up to 15th in the Premier League table while Liverpool extend their lead at the top to seven points
"As an Everton manager I had some brilliant times here before
but I think tonight because I'm just back and having had very little time with the players
seeing the growing impact the players are having on the supporters and vice versa
"We want to get back to being a big club again
We've got a job to do this year first of all to stay a Premier League club but then we have to try to kick on."
Wednesday's game was the last Merseyside derby to be staged at Goodison Park
with Everton set to move to their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock next season
"I think it was hugely important that Evertonians get to finish off at this stadium as best as they can," Moyes said
I just feel like the support in here was unbelievable tonight
I think it was fitting that they got an end like they did."

playMarcotti backs Slot's Liverpool changes despite FA Cup exit (1:30)Gab Marcotti defends Arne Slot for making wholesale changes to his Liverpool lineup
despite crashing out to Championship Plymouth
LIVERPOOL, England -- The distance between Everton's iconic stadium, Goodison Park, and Liverpool's Anfield home measures at little more than half a mile
Separated only by Stanley Park -- where Everton played during the club's formative years -- Merseyside's footballing giants have spent more than a century as neighbours
even as the fortunes of the two clubs have veered in drastically different directions
with Everton set to move to their state-of-the-art new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock next season
It is for that reason that Wednesday night's Merseyside derby -- the 245th meeting between the two sides and the last in the league at Goodison Park -- feels particularly significant
with anticipation for the clash having only been heightened by December's postponement due to Storm Darragh
Liverpool are top of the Premier League table and could open up a nine-point advantage at the summit with a victory over their city rivals
have endured a turbulent campaign thus far
sacking manager Sean Dyche last month after a torrid run had left the club just one point above the relegation zone
who previously managed Everton from 2002 to 2013
though the gulf in quality between the Blues and Arne Slot's side remains stark
the form book goes out of the window on derby day and
with Wednesday's result set to be eternally preserved in the history books
both teams will be looking to make Goodison's derby farewell a memorable one
This stadium for me is the best stadium in my playing life."
Goodison is and will forever be the club's spiritual home
Having spent close to a decade playing at Anfield in the late 19th century
the Blues relocated in 1892 following a dispute with land-owner John Houlding -- who subsequently went on to form a rival team: Liverpool Football Club
With Liverpool's inception having been born from acrimony
it is perhaps little wonder that the relationship between the two city rivals has always carried an extra edge
Goodison has become an institution in its own right
playing host to some of the world's greatest players
"It is a kind of a 'Last of the Mohicans,'" actor and lifelong Evertonian Andrew Gower tells ESPN
they would tell you tales of Pelé and Eusébio
"It also speaks on behalf of the community
I grew up around Goodison Park and people have given their lives to the community there
We should be very proud as Evertonians of what goes on and how much goes into the community there."
For Gower, Wednesday night will be particularly special, with Gustaffson set to perform "Lights Under Goodison" live before the game in the stadium's Fan Zone.
"As a band, you don't always want to try and speak on behalf of a fanbase because everybody has their own individual memories and relationship with Goodison Park, but the response from the fans has been incredible," Gower says. "They've welcomed it with open arms.
"When Everton unite as a fanbase, especially at Goodison, I personally feel that there's no other fanbase like us. Sometimes it takes a lot for us to unite but, when we do, as we have done in the last couple of years with back-to-back relegation battles, the scenes at Goodison Park and the collective energy I've felt at that stadium is unmatched.
"I always say imagine if Everton won something again, that united energy would be off the scale. Gary Neville, Gary Lineker -- they all talk about Goodison under the lights and say when the gantry shakes there's nothing like it."
One of the places referenced in "Lights Under Goodison" is The Winslow Hotel, which is located on Goodison Road, in the shadow of the stadium. And Gustaffson are also set to perform the song live at the venue on Wednesday night.
Nicknamed "The People's Pub" -- a reference to the moniker of "The People's Club," handed to Everton by Moyes during his first spell in charge -- The Winslow opened its doors in 1886 and has been home to the Everton Supporters (Goodison) Club for close to three decades.
Derby wins at Goodison have been relatively hard to come by for both Liverpool and Everton in recent years. The hosts clinched a famous victory over Jürgen Klopp's side last term, signalling the end of Liverpool's already-faltering title charge, while the Reds have secured just two wins in their last 10 league trips across Stanley Park.
Four of the last seven meetings between the two sides at Goodison have ended in a goalless draw, with the desire of both sets of players to claim the local bragging rights often leading to tense, highly charged encounters.
"It means more as a local player because we know what it's about," former Liverpool striker John Aldridge, who was born and raised in the city, tells ESPN. "We live in the city so we know what it means.
"When I was a kid, I used to get so nervous for the Merseyside derby. I wouldn't sleep. You'd be going into school on the Monday and getting ripped by the Evertonians if you lost. "This is a really important game for both sides. Liverpool are obviously fighting to win the title so there's a lot riding on it. Everton would love nothing more than to stop Liverpool winning the league."
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Everton Stadium (@evertonstadium)
Last season, the Everton supporters took great pleasure in their team doing just that as goals from Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin secured a famous 2-0 win for the hosts
Chants of "You lost the league at Goodison Park," could be heard echoing around the terraces -- a taunt first coined in 2019 when a goalless draw at Goodison saw Liverpool cede their grip on the title to eventual champions Manchester City -- and Aldridge is under no illusions about the fact Moyes' side will be looking to repeat that trick again on Wednesday
"Goodison means a lot to Evertonians and we want to spoil the party
especially after what happened last year," he says
"We were outfought and outbattled so we need to make sure that doesn't happen again."
So far this season, Everton and Liverpool have enjoyed vastly contrasting fortunes. Following Klopp's departure in the summer, new head coach Slot seems to have reinvigorated a team that, by the end of last term, looked some way off competing with Manchester City and Arsenal at the top of the table
Liverpool are six points clear of second-place Arsenal, with September's shock defeat to Nottingham Forest the only major blot on Slot's copybook
though the fact three of those victories have come in their last three games should offer some encouragement to those of a Blue persuasion
I think that could be a platform for the rest of the season," says Bond
"I couldn't even put into words what a win would mean to Everton fans and
play0:32Nicol: Everton lacked heart in FA Cup lossSteve Nicol believes that Everton lacked heart during their last FA Cup game at Goodison against Bournemouth
While Wednesday will mark the end of an historic chapter for Everton
The club unveiled their plans to build a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock back in March 2017 and
against the backdrop of the club's myriad struggles on and off the pitch in recent years
the prospect of the move has remained a rare shining light for many supporters
Everton have spent the past few years as a club in flux
they were handed two separate points deductions for breaching the Premier League's financial rules
while a need to avoid further infringements left Dyche and his staff significantly stymied in the transfer market
Texas-based consortium The Friedkin Group agreed on a deal to take over Everton owner Farhad Moshiri's 94.1% controlling stake in the club
with the takeover having been officially ratified in December
Everton will be able to put some of their recent struggles behind them
But taking a stride towards the future will inevitably have some repercussions for many of the businesses synonymous with the club's past
"The move to Bramley-Moore has been seven years in the making so I have been looking at different contingency plans and different options down there but I walked away from all of those because it just didn't stack up financially," Bond says
"Obviously because of the connection between The Winslow and Everton it is extremely difficult but we're just going to have to adapt
We're going to run coaches on a matchday from the Winslow and a lot of the feedback from the fans has been quite positive
we're in talks with Sefton City Council about a possible joint venture at Salt and Tar in Bootle to utliise it as an Everton matchday venue with a Park and Ride service to Bramley-Moore
But the whole ritual around the new stadium is going to be entirely difficult to how it is at Goodison Park."
the focus remains firmly on the present and
there would be no finer way to commemorate Goodison's final season than to put their city rivals to the sword
although we mock each other over Stanley Park
it will be special for a lot of those away fans coming to Goodison for the last time
because it's played a big part in their lives as well," Gower says
and if we do get the three points it will be a special way to draw the curtain on the last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park."
Everton Park Service Station has functioned as a cornerstone to our community
Owners Desley and Les are beyond honoured to accept the credit for their station’s success
Desley and Les’s involvement in the service station industry began long before the inception of Everton Park Service Station
Their career kicked off in 1994 at Matilda Service Station
where they honed their skills and cultivated a passion for providing top-notch customer service
their path took a new turn when they seized the opportunity to purchase the freehold from Matilda Fuel Supplies
marking the birth of Everton Park Service Station
the station soon transitioned back to its roots as a Matilda service station
the station changed hands as Matilda was acquired by Newman Petroleum
With each change in ownership came a commitment to modernisation
Recognizing the need to keep pace with evolving standards
Desley and Les undertook significant renovations to keep the service station up to date
The transformation culminated in the rebranding to Caltex
a move that has been well-received by the community
Everton Park Service Station has evolved into a multifaceted hub
offering a range of services to meet the diverse needs of its customers
Desley and Les found many ways to embed their passion into the business; the station transitioned from a quick pick-up-and-go food bar to a comprehensive car servicing and repair centre
complete with logbook servicing for new cars
Desley and Les’ vision of a mini dealership service centre
But Everton Park Service Station is more than just transactional business; it stands as testament to Desley and Les’s deep-rooted connection to the community they call home
Having bought their first home in Everton Park in 1976
they have been active members of the local fabric for decades
have also played integral roles in the family business
After 20 years of ownership at Everton Park and 30 years at their Albany Creek workshop
Desley and Les’s passion for what they do still shines through in every aspect of their business
‘It’s always been our passion to provide the best customer service along with the best possible product at an affordable price
We both love being involved with the every-day running of the business,’ Les shares with Echo News
Desley and Les have no plans of slowing down
With a deep-seated passion for the industry and a commitment to excellence
they are poised to continue serving their labour of love to locals for years to come
‘We would like to thank all the community for all their ongoing support

These terrace homes range from a generous 164sqm to 218sqm and have been snapped up by a waiting-list of buyers

featuring flexible and considered floor plans with premium finishes
generous courtyards and a double lock-up garage
Buyers have the opportunity to choose from a large selection of curated design palettes
with a bespoke digital ‘finishes selector’ available to help customise – and visualise – their interior colours and finishes to suit their individual style
Terrace home residents will enjoy exclusive access to resort-style facilities in the Ashford Club

The anticipated first release of terrace homes comes on the back of the final release of homesites at Ashford Residences
with just a limited number of the 43 land lots now remaining following $12 million in sales
range from 405sqm to 555sqm and include a selection of lots with leafy outlooks overlooking the eco area and the Kedron Brook cycleway
Mirvac Head of Residential Stuart Penklis said Ashford Residences’ sought-after position alongside Kedron Brook and just seven kilometres from the Brisbane CBD was a significant drawcard for buyers of both terrace homes and homesites
“The opportunity to live in a brand-new terrace or home in this location is rare,” he said
“We received significant interest in the terrace homes even before they were launched and to release them to the market with 50 per cent already under contract is indicative of the strong underlying demand that exists for this style of living in this superb position
“The terrace homes sold to a mix of buyers
many of who lived in the local area and wanted to upgrade to a brand new home alongside the green space of Kedron Brook
with access to the fantastic amenities in the Ashford Club
“The peaceful and private enclave is also close to public transport
including both Woolworths and Coles supermarkets
health and beauty facilities and a new dining laneway featuring some of the city’s most popular restaurants and cafes in the newly renovated Everton Plaza.”
Mr Penklis said purchasers were also potentially able to benefit from Government schemes
and first time buyers the additional $15,000 First Home Owner Grant
which allows first home buyers to purchase with just a five per cent deposit

A Brisbane couple with Russian passports have become the first people to be charged under new espionage laws after a joint investigation between Australia’s spy and security agencies
AFP commissioner Reece Kershaw said a 40-year-old woman on long-term leave from the Australian defence force and her 62-year-old husband were charged with one count each of preparing for an espionage offence
which could lead to up to 15 years in prison
Defence raised concerns leading to Operation Bergazada
which culminated with a knock on the door of the couple’s Everton Park residential home in Brisbane

Kershaw alleged the pair “worked together to access Australian Defence Force material that related to Australia’s national security interests”
“We allege the woman was undertaking non-declared travel to Russia, whilst she was on long term leave from the Australian Defence Force,” Kershaw said.
“We allege that whilst she was in Russia, she instructed her husband, who remained in Australia, on how to log into her official work account from their Brisbane home. We allege her husband would access requested material and would send to his wife in Russia.
“We allege they sought that information with the intention of providing it to Russian authorities. Whether that information was handed over remains a key focus of our investigation.”
Kershaw said “no significant compromise has been identified” and Australia’s Five Eyes security partners had been made aware of the investigation. Australia’s spy bosses had not ruled out further charges or that others may be involved.

“I want to speak directly to the operatives of Russian intelligence services,” he said at a Canberra press conference on Friday
“This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Petrov defections
Two Russian spies gave ASIO and our closest allies the name of Russian assets in western countries
Burgess said the threat to Australia’s security “was real” and allegations were always treated seriously
“Multiple countries are seeking to steal Australia’s secrets,” he said
“We cannot be naive and we cannot be complacent. Espionage is not some quaint notion, espionage damages our economy and degrades our strategic advantage. It has catastrophic real world consequences.
“Foreign intelligence services are capable, determined and patient. They play the long game. The problem for them is ASIO does too.”

It was reported two men were starting a fire in the park before getting onto two scrambler bikes and riding away
Officers from Merseyside Police’s Roads Policing Unit
Matrix and the Dog Section attended and – assisted by the National Police Air Service – tracked the bikes from Everton to Croxteth
which one of the riders attempted to avoid
causing his bike to be ridden into a police vehicle on Croxteth Hall Lane
He fell from the bike and sustained slight injuries
The man received treatment in hospital before being discharged and detained by officers
The second bike was ridden to a wooded area off Alder Lane close to the M57 where he was in collision with a tree
Officers performed first aid to a leg injury he sustained and he was taken to hospital by the North West Ambulance Service for further treatment
An 18-year-old man from Gilmoss was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving
driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving without valid insurance
A 21-year-old man from Kirkby was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving
driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and possession of a Class B controlled drug (cannabis)
Roads Policing Inspector Jason Higham said
“The risk of bikes being ridden anti-socially and dangerously can be devastating
and our Roads Policing Unit work hard to proactively stop people from taking their own safety and that of others into their own hands
“We co-ordinated efforts with the National Police Air Service and across departments in the force to make sure the suspects in this case could be detained
“I hope this demonstrates that when incidents like this are spotted or reported
we can utilise a wide variety of tactics to pursue offenders
drones and partnership work with the National Police Air Service helicopter
“All are carried out by highly trained specialists
with the safety of other road users paramount at all times.”
the safest way to deal with the problem is always to identify where suspected stolen or illegally used vehicles are stored
so we can seize them before anyone is put at risk on the roads in the first place
“We proactively respond to all intelligence about stolen vehicles
and I encourage anyone with information to let us know so we can take positive action
“Each and every seizure like this one prevents further risk on the roads.”

Australian Strategic Policy Institute's executive director Justin Bassi told the ABC the arrests "clearly show" that "geographic distance is no barrier to these threats"

3:28amFri 12 Jul 2024 at 3:28am'We need to be vigilant,' former national security adviser saysCBy Courtney Gould
A former national security adviser to prime minister Malcolm Turnbull says espionage charges laid against a Brisbane couple are "very significant"
It marks the first time an espionage offence has been laid in Australia since new laws were introduced in 2018
Here's a bit of what the Australian Strategic Policy Institute's executive director Justin Bassi told the ABC:
"This case of espionage is about harming our national security and supporting a foreign government
"I think it clearly shows that we are up against
not just the physical contest that we are seeing in Russia's war of Ukraine but we are seeing a battle for a whole range of strategic competition areas below that threshold of war and we have to be mindful
we can't just wait and react to where bullets are fired
we have to act before the contest and the competition becomes conflict
we need to protect our own way of life and our intelligence agencies are a key part of that."

The AFP has released a picture of agents bringing in the 62-year-old Russian-born Brisbane man after his arrest on spying charges
The arrest of the man and his wife were the culmination of Operation Burgazada
which Commissioner Kershaw said was "complex but showcased the dedication and capability of the AFP" to target espionage and foreign interference in Australia
Burgazada is an island off the coast of Türkiye near Istanbul
I'm not sure there's any connection to this case — but the island was apparently a refuge for anti-communist Russians fleeing the Russian Revolution in 1917

Two Liverpool organisations have applied to manage and operate two of Liverpool’s Lifestyles centres
it was announced that Liverpool City Council was beginning a process which would ask for expressions of interest from external organisations to take over the running of Everton Park and Park Road Lifestyles
The ambition is for any new service provider to adopt an innovative and sustainable approach
which will ensure the venues remain a vital community asset
As part of the Community Asset Transfer process
City of Liverpool Gymnastics Foundation has formally submitted an interest in taking over the Park Road venue
and St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust has put itself forward in relation to Everton Park Lifestyles
The City of Liverpool Gymnastics Foundation is already based at Park Road and is one of Britain’s most successful gymnastics clubs
with a worldwide reputation for excellence
St Joseph Multi Academy Trust is responsible for Notre Dame Catholic Academy
which is located next to Everton Park Lifestyles and pupils utilise the centre
The Council has welcomed the interests from both organisations
and has been working closely with them to complete an assurance and due diligence process
before a final decision on the future of both leisure centres is made
The continuing process will ensure a comprehensive and robust business plans are submitted
including a continued commitment to community use
Once diligence – from all parties involved – has been undertaken
a recommendation will be presented to Cabinet later this year
which is when a final decision will be made
Council Tax payers are increasingly having to subsidise the centres – the average cost per visit to Everton Park is £15.85
and for Park Road it is £19.85 – compared to an average of £8.20 per visit for all Lifestyles facilities across the city
The Lifestyles service must deliver £990,000 of saving as part of the Council’s Medium Term Financial Plan – but is currently £3.4million overspent each year across all 8 Lifestyles venues
staff would be relocated to one of the Council’s Lifestyles fitness centres
including the newly refurbished Peter Lloyd Lifestyles
which reopened its doors earlier this month
To learn more about the Community Asset Transfer (CAT) process, visit the City Council’s dedicated web pages
The CAT policy and programme has recently been reviewed and updated – this review has no impact on the current process and scoring criteria in place for the Lifestyles Centres
on Wednesday (24 July) a City Council Extraordinary Meeting takes place at Liverpool Town Hall to debate a motion raised relating to maintaining and improving the Lifestyles estate
Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Health
Councillor Harry Doyle said: “To have two strong formal expressions of interest from such well-established and respected Liverpool organisations is a positive step forward
I know how important our leisure centres are to our communities
that’s why we took the decision in December 2023 to seek expressions of interest from community organisations
organisations that can access funding we can’t in order to improve and future-proof these vital assets
“We have a strong track record when it comes to Community Asset Transfers and it’s a process which really empowers communities and local organisations to shape their local area for the better
but we hope that we can move forward with a new way of working very soon.”
Everton are considering making Goodison Park the new home for the club’s women’s team
The men’s team are set to leave their historic Goodison Park home of 133 years to the Everton Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock at the start of the 2025-26 Premier League season
The 52,888-seater stadium — a £760million ($958m) development including ancillary works — is viewed as a necessary upgrade to Goodison Park’s capacity of 39,500
The departure of the men’s team has opened the possibility of Everton Women
according to sources who wished to remain anonymous to protect relationships
Everton Women currently play their home matches at Walton Hall Park
a 2,200-capacity stadium (500 seats) located in Walton
Walton Hall Park has been the team’s home since 2020
the home of National League North side Southport FC located almost 20 miles north of the city
Walton Hall Park’s limitations — its size, location from the city centre, lack of appropriate seating, lack of shelter from the elements and restricted catering options — however, are not seen as conducive to growing the profile and appeal of the women’s team for potential fans, a goal set by new owners The Friedkin Group (TFG)
The ground is owned by Liverpool Council and rented by the club
meaning any facility enhancement would need to be agreed in conjunction with the council
TFG has vowed to invest significantly in the women’s team
This was reflected in the January transfer window as the club brought in five players including midfielder Hayley Ladd from Manchester United
France forward Kelly Gago from Nantes and the loan signing of Barcelona defender Martina Fernandez in a boost to Brian Sorensen’s historically underfunded side
A move to Goodison Park is perceived as another sign of the owners’ ambition to breathe life back into the two-time FA Cup winners
The WSL also has a league-wide average attendance target every season as part of the Partnership Agreement with the collective clubs
While individual teams are not held to specific attendance targets
growing average attendance remains a priority for clubs to consider
The option of making Goodison Park the full-time home of the women’s team arrives as the future of the historic ground remains unknown
the club submitted an outline for the Goodison Legacy Project to local government
The plan suggested several ways in which the 3.39-hectare site can remain an important community asset beyond the Everton men’s departure
Moving Everton Women to Goodison Park full-time is viewed as not a replacement for the Legacy Project but a means of supplementing it
No decision on the Legacy Project and a possible move for the women’s team can be made until the men’s first team officially leave the ground and relocate to the new stadium
only Leicester City share the club’s main stadium with the men’s team for all home matches
though Arsenal Women committed to playing 11 matches at the Emirates this season
Brighton & Hove Albion submitted a proposal in 2023
to build a new purpose-built stadium for the women’s team by 2027-28

A development application has been lodged for a food and drink outlet (with drive-through)
Designed by Verve Building Design
the proposal seeks a single storey fast food restaurant within the north-western corner of the existing large format retail centre
This restaurant includes a drive through as well as an indoor dining area and additional parking spaces
The planners at Wolter Consulting Group state
“The proposal will make a positive contribution to the Stafford Road frontage and will improve the streetscape environment
The development will also not impinge on the retained strip shopping character closer to South Pine Road and contributes positively to the existing development on the site through improved presence”
“The proposed development represents an extension to the existing large format retail facility
utilising access from Woolworths Street and facilitating the current centre uses
“The development will deliver clear community benefits
including the activation of an underutilised piece of land on a key transport corridor”
“It represents a logical planning outcome when considering the context of the subject site”

Just arrived at my parents having driven from Devon before heading to Goodison tonight
I've been going since the 70s and my dad who is 87 since the early 50s when he'd go to Goodison one week and Anfield the next with his red pal
There's been loads of wonderful Goodison derbies but mid week under the lights
there's nothing like it - and I've seen football all over the world
But the 4-4 in 1989 when I used to travel back from Uni and stood with my dad on the Gwladys Street was both electric and crazy

One of my first and worst memories was Bradford City beating us in FA Cup in 1997
A team of a young Schwarzer in goal and Andy O'brien in defence
They scored 2 early second half goals to go 3-1 up

My dad is Liverpool through and through but has many fond memories of Goodison in the 60s
None more so than Portugal vs North Korea in the world Cup
He still raves about watching Eusebio score 4

Daizen Maeda's hat-trick against Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup at the weekend took his tally for the season to 21
Not bad for a player who has played out wide for most of the season
Three of those goals have come in the Champions League
including a brilliant curling effort to snatch a critical point against Club Brugge
Not that he lacked the ability to score good goals
but that he was guilty of some glaring misses
But this season his shot conversion rate has gone up from 13% to 22% in the Scottish Premiership
and his strikes have come in all different forms
Against Rovers he was so sharp in the penalty box for his hat-trick
but against Dundee last week he scored a sublime chip
Rodgers now has a decision to make for the visit of Bayern
with Kyogo now gone and no direct replacement brought in

I was a Liverpool fan in the Park End terrace which was heaving
Dalglish scored after 30 seconds in front of the Gwladys Street and you could see how many Liverpool fans were in there due to the number of red bobble hats that suddenly all jumped up at the same time
Kendall then took a defender off and went three up front
Everton battered us second half and got back to 3-2 but couldn’t find an equaliser
And there was still time for two Liverpool quick counter-attacks
both of which ended with Kenny fluffing chances that even I could have scored
Bobby Robson was there in his role as England manager
and he also said it was the best match he’d ever been to

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers says his side must be "alive in the tie" after the first leg of their Champions League play-off against Bayern Munich
The German outfit lead the Bundesliga by eight points and have scored 65 goals in 21 league outings
but had an up-and-down league stage in European competition
losing three of their eight games and finishing outside the top eight
Rodgers knows the task that awaits his side but is nonetheless bullish about Celtic's prospects
"Bayern Munich are one of the giants of the European game," he said
"They really are football royalty in terms of what they've achieved over many
"For us to be in a position where we can challenge them is a great marker for us
all our running power and physicality – which is something we're really improved on at this level – then anything is possible
"What is important for us is that we're very much alive in the tie going over to Germany
as we've shown in this competition especially at home
hopefully we can get what we deserve."

Everton Park State High School was successful at the end of 2019 in obtaining funds from the local School Community fund for the construction of their own Anzac Memorial Garden
The ANZAC Memorial Garden is now nearing completion and will be a permanent place in their school to honour all who have served and to ensure their proud military history is preserved for future generations
The school has reached a very exciting phase and they are now able to invite community members of Everton Park who would like to honour veterans and current serving members by purchasing a bass honour name plaque for their Honour Wall
The plaques are $50 each and will feature the veterans name
If you are interested in purchasing a plaque or plaques, please email sgall129@eq.edu.au to place an order

Liverpool City Council has announced several amendments to the experimental parking zone surrounding Everton Stadium as well as a number of improvements to the area
The zone, introduced under an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO), went live two weeks ago today (on Monday
17 February) to coincide with Everton FC’s inaugural match at the stunning waterfront stadium at Bramley Moore-Dock.
A major public consultation was launched as part of the ETRO and the Council has so far received 4,895 responses
Based on feedback from businesses and residents in the city’s North Docks community
as well as initial findings from that historic event
the Council will now implement changes to its operation.
The process to modify the ETRO to implement these initial recommendations (including new signage) will begin to be enacted within the next three months
The ETRO enables the Council to make these changes flexibly in the light of experience and analysis of their impact on a day-to-day basis
Further changes may also be made following the further two stadium Test Events
and throughout the 18-month process up to August 2026.
the Council will also explore the scope for on-street pay and display parking bays in key locations to identify options
Following these amendments and improvements
the Council’s Highways team will continue to monitor the impact of the ETRO to determine whether this has positively assisted businesses
and public opinion and if other amendments are required
When and where do the ETRO measures apply? The new measures introduced in the zone
which radiates out via a 30-minute walk from the stadium
operate between the hours of 10am to midnight each day.North of Boundary Street
South of Boundary Street it is operative 12 months of the year
This is except for the Great Homer Street area
which operates 8am to midnight all year round. The ETRO is to run until August 2026
but Liverpool City Council will be seeking to review and amend the measures within the first six months before the new football season begins in August
The measures can be made permanent before August 2026
What about Blue Badge holders?Blue Badge holders can park for as long as they need to within the permit parking areas in the experimental zone
and for up to three hours on a yellow line (unless a loading ban is in place)
Badge holders can also park on yellow lines
but they will need to clearly display their badge and blue parking clock as well as ensuring the vehicle is not causing an obstruction. For Blue Badge holders wishing to attend a football match at the stadium
Everton FC is in the process of exploring how it enhances its current parking offer to complement other transport arrangements such as the free shuttle bus service for disabled fans
said: “Since the Experimental Parking Zone went live on the day of Everton’s first test event
the Council has been listening to all the feedback and analysing what we can do to make improvements
“We understand the concerns being raised by businesses
residents and fans and we’ve wasted no time in assessing the necessary amendments that can be introduced as quickly as possible
“The measures that can be amended to alleviate concerns on issues like waiting times and number of permits will be considered as a priority
The major concerns from the first event around road closures and street lighting are also being addressed to ensure they are remedied by the second test event at the end of March
“We are also working closely with colleagues at the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority
Merseytravel and Merseyrail on their plans for public transport provision and we are in in active dialogue with them and Everton to ensure changes and improvements are made.”
Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity
said: “Given this is an experimental zone and we are in the test event stage
“I want to reassure everyone the Council is actively looking to make the necessary improvements to help businesses
especially as we build up to the final test event in May and then the start of the new football season in August
“The Council is keen to continue talking to businesses to explain the process and to hear how the measures and amendments are impacting their staff and customers and how we can work together to make improvements quickly
“A key aim of the Experimental Zone is tackling the problem of commuter parking 365 days a year
as well as illegal and unsafe parking on double yellow lines and pavements
These issues impact the area all year round and it’s vital we get this right to support its economic development and to tackle congestion
especially as more businesses set up here and more residential schemes are developed.”
