Home to one of the largest salt water lakes in Australia
Lake Macquarie is a veritable mecca for fishers
Whether you’re a pro-angler or you’re just looking for some places to take the kids
here is our list of the best places to go fishing in Lake Mac
Known as one of the best places in Lake Mac to experience shore fishing
Located in Shingle Splitters Point Park on Queen Street
you’ll mainly be catching Flathead and Whiting if you visit here
relax and enjoy waterfront views after your long day of fishing
Belmont Bay features a pier and boardwalk with plenty of space to cast your line
The Bay has a few different areas to try when casting your line
Belmont Bay North to Speers Point is a popular deep-water option
while the area out from the rocky shores between Green Point and Valentine fishes well for Bream
Tip: The average depth of Belmont Bay is 10 metres
the water surrounding Speers Point Jetty is the place to find species like Tailor
Whether you plan to stay on land or take a boat to explore Cockle Creek and Five Islands
Tip: Saltwater will take a pretty big toll on your fishing gear
If you don't invest in fishing gear that is specifically designed to withstand corrosion
you're going to find that your gear rusts and quickly becomes unusable
be sure to give it a thorough rinse with freshwater after each use
Drive over the Swansea Bridge and you are sure to see plenty of keen fishers out and about
The Channel’s tidal current and proximity to the open ocean attracts a wide variety of larger fish species that are harder to find in the Lake
The area is known for its schools of Australian Salmon
Tip: If you’re looking to catch bigger fish
you’ll need big baits like squid heads
If you’ve tried Swansea Channel and are looking for something different
head round to the lakeside near Marks Point
The waters are calmer and home to schools of Flathead
Tip: Before you go fishing, familiarise yourself with the Department of Industries, Rules and Regulations for fishing so you can keep safe and follow the rules
The lakeside suburb of Pelican is nestled between Swansea and Belmont
Pelican foreshore has plenty of space for picnics and outdoor activities
Tip: If you head a little further along the coastline
This a great place for catching Whiting and Bream
as well as the ideal location to go for a dip in summer
Pulbah is a place for the more experienced angler
the fish varieties available are usually Bream and Tailor
The water at Pulbah can be more than 15m deep depending on the tides
Live prawns are most popular if you can find them
The large spanning foreshore hosts a playground and barbecue picnic area so the whole family can make a day of it
Tip: Tracking the weather and the moon is a good way to determine the best days to fish
The highest tides of the month align with the new or full moon
Many fish like the higher water so those days are often most fruitful.
there is plenty of space to cast your line
Pack a picnic and enjoy the beautiful bushland and lake views
This is where the waves break and a popular spot for fish
Croudace Bay has a larger boat ramp that is user-friendly for those with larger craft and two-wheel drive vehicles
this is the perfect location for those who like to fish out on the water
The most popular species caught here are Dusky Flathead and Australasian Snapper
Tip: Let your bait hit the bottom of the sea floor
This means your bait has touched the bottom which is the perfect spot to catch fish
lightly shake the rod so that it mimics the movements of a live worm

Changes to replace a dwelling with two commercial units in an already approved industrial complex at Green Point have been given the go-ahead by Central Coast Council
In July 2017 the then Gosford City Council approved construction of a new residence and four industrial units at 389 Avoca Dr
Construction started in June 2023 and is ongoing
in December that year approval was sought to remove the approved dwelling from the development to instead add two more industrial units to make a total of six
The original approved building has been reduced in bulk and scale at Council’s request
there is an extra five parking on-site spaces as there is no parking along Avoca Dr
and the frontage visual impact will be softened with more landscaping

Cape Town
you'll find crafts and koeksisters (and koesisters too!) at one of Cape Town's best-loved weekend markets
most of the money earned from holiday jobs went to two things: beer and CDs
The first was to be found in the pubs of Claremont and the city
The latter bought second-hand from the city's vibrant flea markets
And my favorite hunting ground was the Green Point Flea Market
where I'd be sure to find a bootleg live album or late edition for my collection at a bargain price
But then the Green Point Flea Market went the way of CDs themselves
after a 15-year break – during which the Green Point precinct has been entirely transformed – this much-loved city market is making a comeback
11 May – which also happens to be Mother's Day – when this buzzing Sunday hangout will be rebooted with stalls filled with clothing
Operating every Sunday from 8am to 6pm – except during major stadium events – the revived market is intended as a multicultural celebration of Cape Town's informal trading culture
"This market was the heartbeat of informal trade and entrepreneurship in Cape Town
it's heritage and identity for many families," said Rosheda Muller
chairperson of the Green Point Flea Market and President of the National Informal Traders Alliance of South Africa
As with any Cape Town market worth its salt
expect everything from hand-stitched clothing and hand-crafted ceramics to flavor-packed samosas and fresh koesisters
and an open invitation to a vibrant future," said Muller
Perhaps that means there will also be some CDs for sale
Until it opens, check out our guide to the Best Markets in Cape Town!

Add articles to your saved list and come back to them any time
As our national anthem a little eccentrically attests
That translates to more than 35,000 kilometres of coastline
That’s so many beaches that it would take you 30 years to spend a day at each one
But what makes Australia’s beaches so special isn’t just the wonder of those that make the international lists for best strips of sand
there are beaches only locals know about which are often just as good
Some of these secret beaches are not far from our biggest cities
while others are so remote that they are yours to enjoy virtually alone
How this piece of North Queensland perfection remains under the radar is anyone’s guess.Credit: Tourism and Events Queensland
clear waters where the wonder is all too obvious
can be visited by estuarine crocodiles (this is Australia
after all) or have dangerous rips and currents
making them completely unsuitable for swimming
it’s the wildness of the beauty that provides the charm
Seek them out: You don’t have to find all 12,000
but do plan to find at least a few or more of Australia’s lesser-known beaches
Here are Traveller’s best secret beaches (and our take on five not-so-secret ones) to get you in the swim
The lowdown Ever seen photographs of kangaroos and wallabies feeding on a tropical beach
The animals come at sunrise to feed on mangrove seedpods and seaweed along the shoreline right where the rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef
The lowest islands of the Whitsundays protect the waters
How this piece of North Queensland perfection remains under the radar is anyone’s guess
Sunrise brings wallabies and kangaroos to graze on the beach at Cape Hillsborough
See + do There are hikes all over the adjoining national park
along volcanic headlands and through eucalyptus forests that are home to koalas
Snorkel and swim at the foot of the cape and offshore at Wedge Island
Must know The best time to visit is winter, but that’s a popular time for locals, especially during the July and September school holidays. Book early at Cape Hillsborough Tourist Park
Make it happen Cape Hillsborough is 50 kilometres north-west of Mackay. Visit between May and October, outside stinger season, when swimming is safe. See capehillsboroughresort.com.au; queensland.com
Sheltered waters are surrounded by rock formations at Madfish Bay in WA’s William Bay National Park
The lowdown Overshadowed by its famous neighbour
Madfish Bay is part of William Bay National Park and has a secluded beach sheltered by an offshore island
Waves come from two directions around the island and collide spectacularly
Its name is derived from local folklore suggesting that schools of fish go mad when the waves and tides collide
Huge boulders dating back to when Australia split from Antarctica rise from blue water
See + do There’s a natural playground of pools and places to snorkel – the warm pools by the rocks provide a safe
At low tide you can often walk out to the offshore island
but always be alert for underwater currents
Watch out for snakes if you walk to the island
Make it happen Madfish Bay is only 15 kilometres from Denmark in south-west WA. It’s safe to visit year-round, but the water gets cold in winter. See australiassouthwest.com
Rapid Bay Beach on the Fleurieu Peninsula is considered one of the best dive sites in South Australia.Credit: Ben Goode
The lowdown South Australia’s beaches are vastly underrated
and chances are that if you’re not a diver
silvery sand beach ends at clear aquamarine waters that are home to more than 70 species of fish
This is also where you’re most likely to see endangered leafy sea dragons
While it’s barely 80 minutes’ drive from Adelaide
See + do Rapid Bay Beach is considered one of the best dive sites in South Australia
with two long jetties that provide sheltered homes to a huge variety of marine species
but the other provides a walkway over the water
Must know The beach is unpatrolled but its calm waters make it safe for most swimmers
Make it happen Rapid Bay Beach is on the west coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula, 105 kilometres south of Adelaide, so it’s best to visit in summer if you’d like to swim without a wetsuit. See southaustralia.com
Remnants of the Trinculo shipwreck on Gippsland’s Golden Beach
The lowdown Somehow this quintessential Australian beach and the adjacent town
remain largely unknown to all but loyal regulars
This beach is as wild as it is picturesque – kangaroos
Strong currents make it ideal for beach fishing – but not so ideal for swims
See + do Check the wreck of the Trinculo – iron ribs from the carcass of this cargo ship that was shipwrecked in 1879 remain on the sand
There are plenty of foreshore camping areas – and some well-positioned holiday homes by the next-door Paradise Beach
Although there are few shops in Golden Beach
Must know Should you require even more isolation
get lost in the wetlands of the Gippsland Lakes Coastal Parks
Make it happen Golden Beach is 250 kilometres east of Melbourne – consider a visit in winter for ultimate isolation. See visitgippsland.com.au
The lowdown Maggie Island is home to some of North Queensland’s top beaches – but the best is a secret to all but the locals
It’s on the island’s remote north-east tip
so you’ll have to hike in or risk a very bumpy four-wheel drive-only road
The reward is a 250 metre-wide sandy beach flanked by granite headlands
It’s home to a derelict 54-year-old resort; passionate locals have kept the site undeveloped for generations
Magnetic Island’s Radical Bay rewards the hike or bumpy drive in
See + do Keep your eyes open for green and flatback turtles
which pass close by offshore in the marine park
along with humpback whales between July and November
should you find another person on your beach
Must know There have been plans for a fancy new development on the site since 2011
but at the time of writing no action has been taken
Make it happen Rental cars aren’t permitted on the dirt road, so walk up Radical Bay Road or follow the walking trail from better-known Horseshoe Bay. Don’t swim in stinger season, between November and March. See magneticislandonline.com.au
A sunset view at Bushrangers Bay on the Mornington Peninsula.Credit: Alamy Stock Photo
The lowdown The peninsula is synonymous with beaches
but you may not have heard of this hidden gem
It’s surrounded by tall basalt cliffs that are smashed by thunderous waves
and you can reach Bushrangers Bay on foot only
the bay has Australia’s cheapest spa baths – rock pools you can see and use only at low tide
See + do The walk in means this beach never gets crowded – and that’s one of the best things about it
You’ll admire Victoria’s best coastal scenery as you stroll along the path
Pack a picnic and sit by the beach watching waves explode against the headland; offshore
black volcanic rocks emerge from clear blue water
It’s best to arrive when the tide is still dropping
Make it happen Drive 90 minutes south-east from Melbourne, then walk from the car parks at Cape Schanck or Boneo Road. Try visiting outside summer too, when fewer people hike in. See visitmelbourne.com
Fingal Head greets sunrise moments after neighbouring Cape Byron on the NSW North Coast.Credit: David Kirkland
The lowdown With a border of basalt formed by an ancient lava flow from a nearby extinct volcano
and an entrance through thick littoral rainforest you’ll need to traverse by foot
secret spot just a few kilometres south of the Gold Coast’s mega-popular beaches
Its northern corner gives rare protection from summer’s prevailing north-easters
Walk south to the popular coastal town of Kingscliff
See + do Facing due east and protruding out almost as far as Cape Byron 40 minutes to the south
Dreamtime Beach is the sweet spot for a watery sunrise
Must know Dreamtime Beach is unpatrolled and can be dangerous in rough seas; even when it’s calm
Make it happen Take the M1 motorway turn-off to Fingal Head, near Tweed Heads, on the Queensland-NSW border, then follow the signs. Consider visiting outside summer to avoid local crowds. See visitthetweed.com.au
The lowdown Tasmania’s best big wave surf spot (home of the Rip Curl West Coast Classic surfing event since 1975) presents plenty of options for non-surfers too
Walk 5.7 kilometres of deserted white sandy beach fringed by dunes that get taller (more than 30 metres) the further you walk
and the cleanest air on Earth (as measured by the CSIRO) blows in from the ocean
Watch wild Southern Ocean waves at Green Point Beach at Marrawah in Tasmania’s north-west
there’s a free camping site with an electric barbecue – and a breathtaking view
but just watching the biggest waves the Southern Ocean can produce will keep you occupied
Order a steak from Cape Grim (50 kilometres to the north) at the 111-year-old Marrawah Inn
Consider taking a tour of the nearby Tarkine rainforest
Must know There are more than 15 known rips
Make it happen Green Point Beach is 180 kilometres west of Devonport, on Tasmania’s remote north-west coast. You probably won’t be swimming, so visiting year-round is fine. See northwesttasmania.com.au
an enclave for the elite on the NSW Central Coast.Credit: Central Coast Tourism
The lowdown Once conceived as an estate for Sydney’s wealthiest residents after World War I
this beach reachable by ferry from Palm Beach is a quiet
sheltered swimming spot surrounded by native bushland at the beginning of the Woy Woy Peninsula
such as Andrew Denton and the late Mike Willesee
See + do There’s a 25-metre ocean pool to swim laps at the southern end
While the beach appears calm and safe for swimming
Nature reserves provide great vantage points and
Must know There’s an array of hidden islands and bays on the peninsula
the southernmost point of the Central Coast
but this is what locals dub the “Palm Beach of the Central Coast”
Make it happen There’s a ferry from Palm Beach to Ettalong (but then you’llhave to take a bus, or get an Uber) or drive 90 minutes from Sydney’s CBD. Come during the week or in shoulder seasons to increase your chances of isolation. See centralcoastaustralia.com.au
Macassan Beach’s white sand contrasts with the surrounding red rocks and the green of the monsoonal forest
The lowdown You won’t hear much about the beaches of the Northern Territory because of the estuarine crocodile danger
Stunning white sand and turquoise waters make Macassan (Garanhan) as good as any beach in Australia
It’s surrounded by monsoonal coastal vine forest and its shelves of bright red laterite stand out against all that silica-white sand
See + do Visit historic clusters of stones beside the beach
left by local Indigenous elders as a record of the annual visits by Macassan traders hundreds of years ago (to trade for sea cucumber and turtle shells)
You can walk along a coastal trail with stunning scenery to other beaches
Must know You’ll need a visitor access permit from the Dhimurru Aboriginal Corporation to visit
and a camping permit if you wish to stay overnight
Make it happen Macassan Beach is 38 kilometres from Nhulunbuy (the biggest town in East Arnhem Land). Access is via an easily driveable dirt and sand track, and it’s best to visit in winter. See eastarnhemland.com.au
Whitehaven Beach regularly makes lists of the world’s best beaches.Credit: Tourism and Events Queensland
In the top five of practically every world’s-best-beach list and reachable only by boat or helicopter, this seven kilometre strip of white, squeaky silica-sand is part of the Whitsunday Island group. Visitors on day trips walk its silky smooth sand and swim in the turquoise sea beyond. See queensland.com
It requires a two-hour return walk over granite mountains, but this isolated white sand beach in the Freycinet National Park on Tasmania’s east coast is worth the sweat. The views from the lookout above are enough for most, but make the extra effort to walk beside wallabies down to the beach to swim in its chilly, transparent waters. See discovertasmania.com.au
Longboarders ride waves rolling off Cape Byron as Byron’s rich and famous drive to some of the most expensive homes in Australia. Take the coastal walk to the lighthouse, or just sit back and watch dolphins surf the swell – or humpback whales from June to November – at this cosy bay. See visitnsw.com
Fiery ocean sunsets on view at this 22km white sand beach on the edge of tourist hot-spot Broome are a rare treat for east-coasters. So are the red ochre cliffs behind the beach, which show just how close the outback lurks here (as do the photogenic camel rides). Choose a drink at a beachside bar and get set for the show. See westernaustralia.com
Melbourne’s most famous beach might lack surf, but it compensates with beachside attractions. Stroll its palm-lined boardwalk, stopping at al fresco restaurants and bars. Explore the huge parks and lose yourself among the pastry shops of Acland Street. Check for penguins at St Kilda Pier, or just chat to the fishermen. See visitvictoria.com

amateur astronomers and anyone in between with a fascination at what soars above are invited to attend two viewing nights at Green Point Observatory
people are invited to look up and learn with members of the Sutherland Astronomical Society
Society President and astronomer Lou Pagano says it's a chance to view the magnificence of the night sky through two very large telescopes located inside the observatory
"There will be many large telescopes adjacent to the observatory as well," he said
astronomy images are obtained at the touch of a button
but it is even better when you place your eye at the end of a large telescope and observe the night sky in real time."
Observations will be made of the Earth's closest neighbour
ancient lava seas and mountain ranges will be seen
"With Apollo 11's first human lunar landings 55th anniversary just celebrated last month
telescopes will be pointed at its landing site on the beautiful Sea of Tranquillity," Mr Pagano said
There will also be observations of deep sky objects including multiple star systems
with many located in the rich centre of the galaxy

The State Government has included seven Central Coast sites that will be affected by its new Low and Mid-Rise Housing Policy.
The reforms change planning controls within 800m, or 10-minute walk, around town centres and stations to allow dual-occupancies, terraces, townhouses and residential flat buildings.
The areas are around: Erina Fair; Green Point shopping centre; Westfield Tuggerah; Woy Woy station and town centre; Wyong station and town centre; Gosford station and town centre; and The Entrance town centre.
The announcement was made on Friday, February 21.
The Low and Mid-Rise Housing Policy will reintroduce the “missing middle” between high-rise apartments and greenfield development such as terraces, townhouses and flats.
The NSW Government’s changes will remove the restriction on developing these types of buildings on R1 and R2 zoned land.
It also removes the restriction on medium-rise residential flat buildings on R3 and R4 zoned land in these areas.
Sites were selected considering access to goods and services in the area; public transport frequencies and travel times; critical infrastructure capacity; hazards and constraints and local housing targets and rebalancing growth.
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said the policy filled a gap in new housing supply.
“Allowing low and mid-rise housing in more locations will help increase the number of homes in our state, improve affordability for renters and buyers and give people a choice on the type of home they want to live in,” he said.
The Planning NSW website states that low-rise housing refers to dual occupancies, multi-dwelling housing (townhouses and terraces) and low-rise apartment buildings (including manor houses). Low-rise housing is generally no more than one to two storeys.
It does not include freestanding single houses.
Mid-rise housing refers to apartment buildings (residential flat buildings) and shop-top housing that are generally between three and six storeys. Shop-top housing is a building that has shops or businesses on the ground floor and apartments on the floors above.
Premier Chris Minns said these types of homes had played a really important part in delivering homes over the past century but recently councils had effectively banned them.
“This reform changes that,” he said.
“Housing is the single largest cost of living pressure people are facing and these changes will deliver more homes for young people, families and workers.
“The homes built under these reforms will be close to transport, open spaces and services that people need, creating better connected and more liveable neighbourhoods by making the most of existing critical infrastructure.”
The policy will come into effect on February 28 and covers areas in Greater Sydney, the Illawarra and the Hunter as well as the Central Coast.
This is good policy and sorely needed for the Coast. More density and more diversity in the available housing stock.
Not everybody needs, wants, or can afford a single family dwelling with a big backyard so it makes sense to add more supply close to public transport, parks, schools and other ammenities.
I do think public transport needs urgent investment to accommodate this increased density. Dedicated bus lanes or a bus rapid transit system that travels the length of central coast highway through Erina, The Entrance and through to Wyong, Tuggerah etc seems like it makes obvious sense.

including affordable housing and commercial opportunities
The item will now serve on the City Council’s agenda on Thursday
5 December 2024 for authorisation to commence public participation
The property - situated at 1 Three Anchor Bay Road
Green Point - is remarkably well-connected to key destinations along the Atlantic Seaboard and Cape Town’s CBD
close to key landmarks such as the Sea Point Promenade
The site is conveniently located near public-transport routes serviced by Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said the City envisages a mixed-used development to help drive economic and socio-economic benefits while increasing affordable housing in the area
The City further intends to retain existing community amenities such as the library service point and civic hall on the site
with the land-release process set to identify parts of the site that may need to remain in public ownership to accommodate this
"We are proud to kickstart the land-release process for yet another well-located property to drive economic growth and inclusive development
This Green Point site represents some of the highest value land in the southern hemisphere
with an estimated desktop market-value of R680m
"This is a long-term development that will bring major economic and social benefits for Cape Town
making our city an even better place to live as part of our vision to build a City of hope for all," said Mayor Hill-Lewis
Besides the Sea Point Library and civic hall
other current uses of the property include privately operated sports grounds and clubhouses
and vacant undeveloped land that is used periodically as an informal market
The City will consider the possible inclusion of the existing tenants where feasible
There are four active leases in place on the site that will be considered based on the outcome of the planned specialist studies
The City will be engaging the tenants in this regard
All existing use-rights to the site are due to expire by September 2025
A heritage impact assessment (HIA) will be required as part of the process
and a socio-economic and market-demand analysis will be undertaken to inform a suitable mix of land uses and residential affordability options for the development
"The next exciting step is for this item to go to Council for approval before we embark on the public-participation process
and the road ahead will include detailed studies into the best development plan for the site that resonates with the market
while advancing the City’s socio-economic objectives
"This will inform the City’s submission of a comprehensive land-use application to secure a basket of mixed-use development rights to unlock the full potential of the site
Development rights will be offered to the market through an open and competitive process
"The City is seeking to realise the full market value of the land and expects to raise significant revenue from the land sale
and future rates contributions from the development
for reinvestment in service delivery and infrastructure upgrades throughout the metro
"Communication with the public is key
and we will provide ongoing updates to stakeholders and residents regarding public engagement and comment periods," said Alderman James Vos
mayoral committee member for economic growth

reading some biographies and letters of Chekhov,” Gasda said in a recent interview
It was so much about just meeting to work on the play—hearing things in new ways—coming to understand the construction and meaning of the play
You really have a superficial understanding of a play until you direct it–and are forced to have something to say about it."
André Gregory’s long-gestating adaptation that emphasized process over performance
“They had five years; we had one,” Gasda noted
we wanted to gesture to the rehearsal process—the sense that we were staging the play in the same place that it germinated.”
"that doesn’t mean our play is exactly like Gregory/Shawn’s–in fact it’s not
I think we all love the film and are moved and influenced by it–but ultimately what happens in the room is its own thing."
For Gasda, the sense of artists drawing authentically on their lived experience is essential to the production. “It’s a humble, straightforward, non-pretentious show,” he said. “We put ourselves into it. We’re not doing this for money—there isn’t enough for it to really change our lives. Our Vanya gets its emotional energy from our own experience of being stuck—stuck in industrial Greenpoint, making indie theater.”
“Actors have to live with the characters,” Gasda added. “In our case, I think the play really affected people, affected the actors; it’s not an easy play to endure—we had to digest that.”
The Brooklyn Center for Theater Research will continue to refine Vanya on Huron Street, the production remaining a work in progress—just like Chekhov’s characters, suspended between resignation and the lingering hope that something might change.

Little ol’ Green Point has dominated a national report that recently revealed Australia’s most popular streets
Researchers at realestate.com.au have analysed data from their property portal over the past three years to February and determined where the most in-demand streets are
Eight out of the top 10 most in-demand streets in Australia were located in NSW
with an astounding four of them in Green Point
Asca Dr and Bayside Rd were the list and Bellbower Cl appeared on a New South Wales top ten
No other Central Coast suburb’s made the cut on either report
Realestate.com’s Nerida Conisbee said that the popularity could be attributed to a few factors
the beaches and Gosford train station,” she said
“It also has a great price point for first home buyers
This house on Bayside Dr was sold by Gittoes last year
the suburb is above average for the Central Coast
who often can’t even afford a unit for this much
Local real estate agent Blake Stretton from Gittoes East Gosford has been working in the Green Point area for about eight years and said that it was one of the best suburbs on the coast
“It has such a convenient proximity to everything and a big variety of homes,” he said
Aldi and plenty of other small businesses and restaurants.”
Mr Stretton’s clients Mark and Cherie Brown are lucky enough to own property on two of the in-demand street’s
The couple purchased an investment property from him near the water on Bayside Dr and they also currently live on Asca Dr
Mr Brown said that he was surprised to hear about the street’s being so popular
it’s good value compared to places like Point Frederick
Our house on Asca is on the water and we will probably move there in the future,” he said
Mr Stretton noticed that Asca Drive was a particularly popular street due to its waterfront reserve location and privacy
“I know people in this street that own multiple homes and plan on owning more homes on this street,” he said
is a well-known street in walking distance to the Green Point shopping complex
Mr Stretton suggested that the location was great and the street may have become more prominent because of recent land sales from the Salvation Army

CAPE TOWN - Housing activists are closely monitoring the City of Cape Town to ensure affordable housing is developed in Green Point
This was after the city opened a public participation process for prime property at the Green Point bowling greens to be redeveloped
said that the property had been earmarked for mixed-use development
"The release of prime land in Green Point for mixed-use development, bringing commercial, retail and residential opportunities, will boost economic growth will preserving key community spaces."
Researcher for Ndifuna Ukwazi, Nick Budlender, said that activists had been campaigning for the land to be released for affordable housing since 2018.
"We are increasingly worried about how many affordable homes will be included and how affordable they will actually be. A major red flag is that the city expects to extract maximum value for this land."
Budlender said that the city's decision to sell the land to the highest bidder could prevent affordable housing from being built on the site.
