The new McDonald's will be built at 5/11 Waltham Street, next to a daycare centre, and across the road from the Halls Head Shopping Centre.
It is set to inject $7.86 million into the local economy and create over 180 jobs for local construction workers and restaurant employees.
McDonald’s Halls Head will be owned and operated by Licensee, Clayton McIntosh, who also owns three other McDonald's stores in Busselton, Vasse and Falcon.
“We are excited to start construction on a new restaurant in Mandurah and create 100 construction jobs, as well as a further 80 operational jobs once the restaurant opens," Mr McIntosh said.
“McDonald’s Halls Head is committed to playing an active role in the local community through providing jobs, training and development opportunities, as well as supporting local causes and groups that are important to our customers and people.
“We look forward to serving up our great tasting, great quality menu once the restaurant opens later this year.”

One local family’s Christmas is a lot merrier after purchasing a million-dollar lotto ticket from AP Newsagency in Byford on Saturday
Saturday’s draw saw two division one prizes of $1.05 million each go to games from Byford and Halls Head
On Monday Lotterywest urged anyone who had purchased a ticket for Saturday’s draw to check their tickets
check it twice,” Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney said
But the hunt for the lucky local came to an end yesterday
with Lotterywest confirming the Byford winner had made contact
arrived at Lotterywest HQ earlier this week to claim their $1.05 million Saturday Lotto prize
“For some reason I checked the numbers on Saturday night
but something made me check,” the winner said
“When I saw I had all six numbers I started squealing
my daughter came running from her bedroom wondering what was going on
“We checked the numbers together and then she joined me in the excitement.”
The woman’s husband said he heard the commotion from the garage and came running
thinking there must be a snake in the house
he checked the numbers and quickly joined in the celebrations
It’s going to make our lives much more comfortable.”
“We called our other child and told them we had some good news to share next time we saw them
and so we had to tell them right there and then.”
AP Newsagency Byford’s Suman and Subhash Chander said they were thrilled to have sold the winning ticket
“We are really happy that AP in Byford continues to be lucky for our customers
and that we have again sold a division one ticket,” they said
The pair have now sold three division one tickets and five division two tickets (including some syndicates) since they took on the business opposite Coles in March this year

Detectives allegedly spotted the woman driving a Holden Commodore sedan through the rear car park of a Silver Sands supermarket around 9.30pm on Sunday, February 23.
She allegedly failed to stop for officers and accelerated away, driving recklessly and at speed through several streets across Mandurah, Halls Head and Falcon.
The woman then allegedly abandoned the car on Old Coast Road after it ran out of fuel.
She allegedly fled on foot but was arrested a short distance away.
The woman from Busselton has been charged with failing to stop, reckless driving to escape pursuit, stealing, unlawful possession, possession of a prohibited drug, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled weapon (OC spray).
She is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today.
Eligible voters do not need a reason to vote early and can do so at over 60 polling places in the State.
Most early polling places operate Monday to Saturday and are closed on Sundays.
Early voting will not be available on the Labour Day public holiday (Monday, March 3).
Greenfields Primary School and South Halls Head Primary School scored above-average literacy and numeracy results when compared to schools across the country with a similar socio-educational standing.
The results take into account the student's parental education levels and occupations, its geographic location and the Indigenous status of its students.
Parents can now log onto the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority's MySchool website to view their child’s school results.
Around 1.3 million children in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 underwent NAPLAN testing in March.
ACARA CEO Stephen Gniel said it is important to consider all of the information provided for each school on the MySchool website.
“We need to know how our schools are doing, but it is also important that this information is presented in a way that considers the individual circumstances of a school, especially its level of socio-educational advantage, which our reporting takes into account," he said.
“That’s why the full suite of data on ACARA’s My School is so valuable for Australian parents and carers as well as the broader community.
“This helps parents and carers understand the full value and quality of a school, inclusive of NAPLAN results within the broader context in which each school operates.”
Relax into the laid-back lifestyle on Mandurah
Danish recycle artist Thomas Dambo has installed five large-scale art pieces – known as the Giants of Mandurah – around the region (and one more in Subiaco) in an Australian-first outdoor exhibition
Heading out on the interactive trail to find them is a great excuse to get out and about in the city
exploring the natural landscapes and many meandering waterways
Mandurah is just 70km south of the Perth CBD
a 50-minute drive along the Kwinana Freeway or a 55-minute train from the Perth Underground Train Station
It’s ideally located en route to the Margaret River Region
Twenty-four hours mightn’t seem so long
but there’s plenty you can pack in on a one-dayer
Start with the hunt for Giants of Mandurah
ticking off two of the most easily accessible installations
Santi Ikto and Yaburgurt Winjan Cirkelstone
The bushy-bearded Santi Ikto sits cross-legged at Halls Head, a 10-minute drive from the Mandurah Visitor Centre and your starting point on the Giant hunt
Follow the bitumen path from the car park and through the dunes to find him
enjoying the coastal wildflowers and ocean views as you wander
where the friendly-faced Yaburgurt Winjan Cirkelstone lies
It’s just around the corner from the 29-hectare Creery Wetlands: a marshy habitat for some 22 species of migratory shorebirds and native quendas
and you’ll get the lay of the land as you go
Book a three-hour Ride the Giants tour with The Bike Kiosk
If you’re hoping to see more in a day, hop aboard a coach tour to see all five giants without the need to navigate for yourself. There are several options, which you can find here
Treat yourself to dinner at Boundary Island Brewery.(Image: Visit Mandurah)
Ramp up the giant hunt and add another two to the list for your second day in Mandurah
Finding Little Lui will take you to swampland at Marlee Reserve
parking in the small carpark off Marlee Road and following the signposted track 20 minutes into the heart of the reserve to the seated Giant
He’s propped up against a naturally fallen tree
the roots of which make up part of his unruly mane
Wander through Marlee Reserve to find Little Lui
Rather than walking out to see Seba’s Song perched on the rocky Wannanup/Dawesville Channel Groyne, join a Soulmate Charters’ Scenic Cruise and see it from the water
It’s the only way to get a front-on view of the installation
The cruise leaves from the Port Bouvard Marina each hour
making its way up the Port Bouvard Channel
Join a Soulmate Charters’ Scenic Cruise to spot Seba’s Song
For a longer, more sumptuous day on the water, hop aboard Mandurah Cruises’ Wild Seafood Experience
which meanders through Mandurah’s inland waterways for 3.5 hours
no less than seven blue manna crab and crayfish-laden courses will be served
the menu designed by ex-Cape Lodge chef Tony Howell
If you’re still hungry after seven courses, stop in at Brewvino – home of Mandurah’s best steaks – for one last dinner
or a loaded seafood linguine with unparalleled views of Mandjar Bay
Hop aboard Mandurah Cruises’ Wild Seafood Experience
Start the morning gently with an hour on Mandurah’s glassy waterways. A pitstop at the WA Gold Plate Award-winning Wood & Stone Cafe for a bacon, chilli, and mushroom scramble or their delectable pancakes is the perfect precursor to your Mandurah Cruises Dolphin Cruise embarkation at 10.00am
but dolphin sightings are almost immediate
the experienced guides heading straight out to the regular hotspots
Fuel up for the day at Wood & Stone Cafe
If you’d prefer to be your own skipper, hire a vessel or kayak from Mandurah Boat Hire to navigate the canals. Another option is having a unique houseboat holiday (with a minimum hire of three days and two nights) and call the Murray River home
Those heading onwards to Margaret River after Mandurah can see the fifth and final Giant on the way down
Jyttes Hytte and his spear stand guard at a secret location in the Yalgorup National Park
the Swan Coastal Plain’s largest national park
But don’t just make a beeline for Jyttes
there’s plenty to be seen in and around this 12,888-hectare RAMSAR-recognised wetland system
Seek out Jyttes Hytte standing guard at a secret location
Some 10 lakes span the national park, a thriving natural habitat for migratory waterbirds, kangaroos, and wallabies. The most renowned lake, Lake Clifton, is home to a more unique species: the otherworldly thrombolites. Follow the boardwalk out atop the 2,000-year-old living rocks and marvel at their form before stopping in at the nearby Thorny Devil Brewery for a sampler of their Kakadu Plum sour or Choc-Maple imperial stout
It makes for a fitting finale to your time in Mandurah
Take your time to enjoy Yalgorup National Park

Bronwyn White was stood down after sending a letter that was at odds with Education Department advice
Link copiedShareShare articleThe principal of a WA public school who was stood down for urging parents to keep students at home against Education Department advice has been reinstated
Bronwyn White, principal of Halls Head College near Mandurah, was reprimanded after sending a letter to parents asking only children of essential workers, or those unable to stay home, attend the first week of term two
The letter was at odds with the WA Government
which fiercely defended its decision to reopen schools for all children
It came after a public fight between the Government and the State School Teachers Union of WA
which posted full-page newspaper adverts asking for parents to keep children home
we will do our best to accommodate every learner who attends face to face," Ms White's letter said
we cannot adequately apply physical distancing and safety requirements if we have the entire College community recommencing Week 1
"We simply do not have the physical space required with 1,450 students."
Read our full coverage of the coronavirus pandemic
Ms White sent a retraction four days later in an effort to clear up any confusion.
The retraction came one day before the start of term.
"I apologise for any confusion created by the letter sent out last Friday," Ms White wrote.
"I need to retract the letter sent last week that was not in line with Departmental expectations.
"I am writing to confirm that school is open for all students to attend.
"The expectation is that school will be running as per normal. All classes will run face to face with a normal timetable operating and both at home and online learning will also be accommodated."
She was stood down from her role on April 30, with Alen Kursar named as her replacement.
This afternoon the Education Department confirmed Ms White would return to her role as principal from tomorrow.
"A performance issue was identified which prompted the department to ask Bronwyn White to explain the letter she sent to her school community on April 24," workforce executive director Damien Stewart said.
"Ms White has provided her response and has been reminded of the limits of her authority and obligations as an employee of the Department of Education.
"She will be returning to her role as principal at Halls Head College tomorrow."
Public schools in WA returned on April 28 with attendance rates of 58.5 per cent, but since then attendance has climbed to 73.5 per cent.

Picture supplied"We have spread it out over the two properties
It goes from behind the letterbox all the way through the backyard
curls back around and over into the neighbour's yard," he said
There have been up to 12 friends building the display every afternoon for around five hours for the last two months
Each year the display gets "bigger and more expensive"
Cockburn Bunnings stores out of PVC piping and tarps," Taylor said
a 29-year-old vehicle detailer and brickie's labourer
expects "no less than 5000" people to visit the display this year
The self-professed "big kid" just wants to have fun and bring joy to others
He also does a big Christmas display every year
my parents took me to this Christmas display
they had these tunnels you could walk through
Michelle and Rosie will be haunting a maze at a local Halls Head resident that is open to the public on Halloween weekend
Picture supplied"I thought I could do that for Halloween
and he has deepened many of his friendships through his passion
"This year should be the best and busiest we've had - and of course it'll go bigger again next year," he said
Taylor expects people to travel from as far away as Perth to see the display
and said people will not have trouble finding it if they drive along Peelwood Parade
The display will be open from 3.30pm to 8.30pm daily from Friday
He is asking that each family donates $2 - half of which will cover some of the costs for next year's display
and the other half of which will be donated to a charity
the nature of which they are still deciding

Part of the former Castle Fun Park site, on the corner of Old Coast Road and Leisure Way in Halls Head
the fun park was a popular stop for people making their way to or from Perth
it comprised a miniature village including a replica of a Bavarian castle
The park closed in the early 2000s due to declining visitor numbers. Many of the buildings were razed then and a couple of bushfires have torn through since
All that remains now is the graffiti-daubed castle and the derelict pool
“We used to come down to visit my gran and other family members and we would head over to the castle to have a wander round and explore the park,” he said
“I was a lot shorter then so the buildings all seemed bigger and very exciting
“The pool in the shape of Australia was always exciting and the park itself just always had a really nice feeling about it
Both my gran and my uncle have since passed away so it’s nice to think back about the happy times.”
The site – now owned by someone not associated with the original park – has been an issue of contention in recent years
with proposals for it to house a multi-storey retirement village and hospice or commercial showrooms

Meanwhile, sections of the community have rallied for it to become a family-friendly recreational area again
with the castle restored to its former glory
But Mr Green said he believed the castle – built by George Kaspar and inspired by King Ludwig II’s Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany – was beyond repair
the squatters get in there and it’s covered in graffiti and very smashed up,” he said
“I’d love to see a housing development go in there with maybe a small park in the middle with a replicated small castle or swing set in the shape of a castle to allow development to happen along with keeping a small memory of what used to be there.”
Mr Green said the 1.05-hectare block had endless possibilities
“The zoning has progressed from Special Development to a zoning that has a base of R30 but then allows further uses such as multiple dwellings up to R80
“It is up to a buyer to discuss their future plans with council
“This location is in a great spot that is only a stone’s throw away from the Mandurah foreshore and all the restaurants
It also leads down to the estuary and the new parklands in the Osprey Waters development.”

lot 89 is on the market with a set-date sale for May 15
Mr Green said there had already been interest from a couple of parties
who “see the chance to develop the property and gain a large parcel of land in a prime location”
Lot 88 – an adjoining 1358 square metres of land on the corner – is being sold through Prestige International
It is not known what the owner plans for the remaining and biggest parcel of land

counter-cyclical investment opportunity within Western Australia’s second largest city
“The centre benefits from a high proportion of non-discretionary retailers while presenting value-add opportunities through tenant remixing or potential redevelopment,” he added
“Western Australia remains a standout state for retail property….Greater Perth’s population has increased by 3.6pc throughout the previous 12 months and when coupled with low forecast retail supply and vacancy
it provides compelling fundamentals for the retail sector,” according to the executive
Centuria also holds in the area the Erskine Shopping Centre and Mandurah Greenfields Shopping Centre
