rather the Government’s and the Reserve Bank’s interests are ‘aligned’ but they have ‘different responsibilities’ We also learned from the Treasurer that WA is ‘the hope of the side’ when it comes to the state of the national economy It took a question from this masthead to Minister Carey to momentarily return focus of the presser to the subject of the social housing just unveiled before us The Minister confirmed it comprises 12 small houses which the Minister expects will be occupied by single member families or families comprising a parent with a child So somewhere between 12 and 24 people might be housed in this new Hami Hill development A small but important step in producing more social housing around Freo the pollies met some of the young folk who had worked on the construction of the social housing project and were taken on a tour of one of the new homes As a very occasional observer of these sorts of pressers introduced by local Freo Federal MP Josh Wilson plainly the efforts of the Commonwealth and the States to try to respond jointly and meaningfully to the housing availability and affordability crisis around the country are real though equally plainly the challenge is enormous final note – between now and the Federal election expect to hear one phrase * If you’d like to COMMENT on this or any of our stories, don’t hesitate to email our Editor. volunteer-assisted online magazine all about Fremantle *** Don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE to receive your free copy of The Weekly Edition of the Shipping News each Friday Here are some great Old Traffic Bridge and environs shots from today that include the HUGE Better Bridge Campaign.. a goodly number of quite Bolshie but suitably restrained Freo.. The suburb has performed well in terms of unit sales over the past 12 months, with PropTrack data revealing the median price was up 15% to $440,000, and rental yield was 5.3%. Locals know Hamilton Hill offers one of the best lifestyles in Adelaide. “Hamilton Hill sits on the eastern side of Adelaide in between the city and the foothills. You’re on the footsteps of Norwood Parade for restaurants, and Burnside Village which is one of the more exclusive shopping precincts,” says Nagel. He adds that the apartments are also close to the convenient Magill Village, where there are plenty of great local shops and cafes. St Andrews Apartments are designed by renowned Adelaide-based architect Enzo Caroscio. They feature designer kitchens and appliances, modern bathrooms, and premium fixtures and fittings. “One of the features is that we have gone for slightly larger balconies, above the standard requirements for one-bedrooms in Adelaide, with most sitting around 12 - 14sqm. We know how much people like to entertain and enjoy their outdoor space,” says Nagel. He adds that the apartments are light filled, offer plenty of living space, and are even pet friendly. “The legacy effects of Covid have been that more people living in apartments want pets. So, we've put forward a pet license where people can have one mid-sized dog or two smaller dogs,” he says. Nagel says that the building has solar panels to support energy efficiency. It is low-rise at just four levels, and designed for easy cleaning and maintenance to keep the strata fees low. Take a tour inside these stunning Adelaide homes: Gallery (5 images)Greenery and wellbeing at your fingertipsIn addition to the prestigious location and modern design, one of the biggest drawcards to St Andrews Apartments is the brand new, 6ha park located directly opposite. The park is stage four of the Hamilton Hill community, and features open grassland, walking trails, outdoor gym equipment, an outdoor amphitheatre, and a BBQ area for entertaining family and friends. “The park is named in honour of a local Kaurna man, Lewis Yarlupurka O’Brien. We literally just handed the park over a couple of months ago, and it has been well received by the community at large,” says Nagel. To soak up even more natural beauty, the apartments are a very short drive to Adelaide Hills. “Adelaide Hills has some amazing cafes, restaurants, and wineries. Within 10 minutes you can be at Norton Summit, which has one of the coolest Hills pubs in Adelaide, or at Ashton Hills Vineyard and plenty of other wineries,” says Nagel. Buyers at St Andrews Apartments have so far included first-home buyers attracted to all the benefits at an affordable price point, and downsizers keen on the great lifestyle the development offers. “They want the ability to lock up their property and travel, or just not have to worry about maintenance,” says Nagel. He says the small number of apartments in the block, just 53, will help to create a great community vibe. “You tend to know most of your neighbours, and I think when it comes to strata or community meetings, they will be more connected rather than in the larger towers where you don’t know anyone in the room.” The one-bedroom apartments on offer range from $400,000 to around $460,000. Nagel expects that with such strong sales so far, construction should start in October or November this year. Two more boys have been arrested by police over a series of homophobic attacks on men that had been lured to a meeting point via a dating app. A 15-year-old and a 16-year-old appeared in court on Thursday over the violent assaults, as two more teenagers — a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old, both from Hamilton Hill — were also arrested. Police are investigating.Credit: Peter de Kruijff WA Police allege a number of men had spoken to what they believed was a legitimate person online, before arranging to meet them in person where they were then allegedly assaulted. On Thursday, detectives revealed they had arrested a 15 and a 16-year-old from Hilton and South Lakes over two incidents involving men in their 30s. Police allege the group lured one of the victims to Stillwater Gardens in South Lake about 1am on Wednesday, where he was approached by a group of males who began to verbally abuse him. They claim the victim then retreated to his vehicle and locked the doors. Police say the group then surrounded the car, damaging the rear boot and side panel in attempt to steal it. “Several rocks were thrown at the vehicle as the victim drove away, causing irreparable damage to the windscreen,” a police spokesperson said. Police claimed a second similar incident occurred a short time later in the same location. That victim, they allege, had his jacket and keys stolen from him. They also allege the group stole his car and fled the area with it. Later that day police conducted a search of a South Lake home, leading to the arrest of the boys. All four teens have been charged with aggravated armed robbery, attempted aggravated robbery, criminal damage or destruction of property and steal motor vehicle. On Thursday two of the boys appeared in Perth Children’s Court which heard one of them was on bail for other offending at the time of the incident. It also heard the boys were armed with pepper spray, crow bars and a machete during the attacks. Police said the victims were subjected to homophobic slurs during the assaults and that some of the assaults were filmed and posted to social media. They are urging people who identify with the diverse sexuality and/or gender (DSG) community to exercise caution when arranging meetings through online dating websites and applications. “We take this behaviour extremely seriously and there is no place for this kind of targeted violence in our community,” Detective Inspector Matt Froude said. “While incidents of this nature are rare, we treat them with the utmost seriousness and we encourage victims to come forward so we can investigate.” Froude said dating app users should take steps to ensure their safety. “If you arrange to meet with someone over a dating app, meet in a public, well-lit place with plenty of people around,” he said. “Let your family and friends know where you are going and who you are arranging to meet. “Some of these apps have built-in safety features that allow you to share your live location with trusted contacts for added security during meet ups.” The 15-year-old boy will be back before the court on September 26. onslaught of feverish whispers about a couple of guys baking afternoon loaves in Willagee right) on a hot summer’s morning at the bakery the truth is a little less glamorous – although the loaves are well worth lining up for “Zach and I worked together for a couple of years “Zach was in charge of the bakery that we were working at at the time while I was managing the front of house section we were sweet to pull something together and do it for ourselves.” “We scraped together all our money,” Zach explains and we were looking at opening a retail site north of the river… And then we saw this place.” “We were a bit hesitant to come down and look at it ‘We’ll never be able to do anything out of here.’ But we opened it up scraped together a whole bunch of second hand equipment and then just went out to a few good cafes and restaurants and handed out samples they “didn’t hear a whole lot back” – but slowly the pair gained wholesale traction as they baked in the late afternoon and early evening “Some dude walked past and asked what was going on maybe we’ll try and see if we can sell a few loaves while we’re down here baking the bread for wholesale.’” The odd person walking past became a line winding down the footpath a homemade bookshelf became an actual shop counter and the cult status of Everyday Bread was established “There was obviously a bit of a demand for other products but we weren’t able to do that – we simply don’t have the space We’ve been a bit frustrated because we know it’s the missing piece to the puzzle of the bakery.” they’ve been quietly keeping an eye out for a location more suited to both retail operations and an expanded offering that includes viennoiserie sandwiches and coffee – finally finding a space in Hamilton Hill that’s set to open post-Easter “We’ve had our ambitions from the start that included a wider scope of what we’re doing now,” says Tom “And it’s our chance to step up and do what we think we’re capable of.” “It’s a little bit further south than from here but down there will give us the space to be able to produce viennoiserie and then still cater to the afternoon trade of bread,” Zach explains more visually appealing on the eye – not to say that this place doesn’t have character and charm!” But I don’t know… Kind of like freaky things What sort of pastries do they eat in Croatia What sort of pastries are people eating in Korea?” “We want to keep up the afternoon bread trade because we really stand behind that and believe in that particularly here in Australia that ‘You must go to the bakery and get a load of bread between 6 and 2pm’ and you’ve got to settle for sub par bread we’re not too sure what we’re going to do here afterwards it’s a good location – the other day we were thinking that perhaps we might put a mill in here and start milling our own grains.” inspire people to… Maybe inspire isn’t the right word “And making it accessible for everyone – that’s a big thing that Tom and I have focused on We don’t feel like we’re overpricing our product and it’s coming from a place of intent without compromise Intent without compromise feels apt: Zach is laser-focused and adamant when it comes to the product and their ethos and doesn’t give an inch when the conversation strays towards topics he’s not interested in discussing “That’s a big part of my makeup and my identity living in the city and going back to the country and standing up to bullshit as well – I think a lot of people in this day and age are just too scared to stand up and say something when they see something wrong go down.” that’ll humble you – because you’re working with something that’s alive patterns and collecting data to try to make the best bread that we can the unbaked loaves of bread dictate how we work.” Everyday Bread’s new bakery is scheduled to open in early April Claire Hill & Alanis HamiltonTop Prospects Hamilton & Hill Sign With Women’s TennisNovember 20 And Sarah Hackett’s marketing "Bassendean, Guildford, Hamilton Hills, Padbury, Ashfield, Doubleview," he said. Cafes, good schools and being close to transport are all affirmations that a suburb will be attractive to younger families to buy.  Mr White said that the southern Perth suburb of Hamilton Hill is one to keep an eye on.  "There's a lot of young crew out there that are more than willing to get in there with a cold chisel and chip up those 70s orange tiles and do something pretty trendy with them." The rental vacancy rate remains around 0.7 per cent — when according to REIWA it should be 2 to 3 per cent. Mr White believes the steep declines in available rental properties means people are looking to other areas to buy that they might not have considered before.  "Maybe the house is old..maybe the wet areas are dated, maybe the kitchen's not quite what you'd want today. "But if it's in a good location, your transport costs are less, the basic structure is well built and you can get in there and just live with it as it is and you can look to five years down the future when you can do it up," he said.  The amount of rental stock in Perth has dropped to 2013 levels. (ABC News: Kenith Png) Download the ABC listen app to text and call your favourite live radio
