Who knew a 1999 Toyota Camry could go so fast 25 years after it rolled off the production line?
On Thursday, August 1, an 18-year-old driver on a Provisional 1 licence (red P-plates) was clocked by Tuggerah Lakes Highway Patrol officers allegedly travelling at 192km/h in a 50km/h residential zone in Woongarrah.
Police allege the Hamlyn Terrace man said upon being pulled over that he “had a rough week at work” and “was just blowing off some steam”.
His licence was immediately suspended, and he was issued with a court attendance notice for driving at a dangerous speed and exceeding the speed limit by over 45km/h.
For the latter offence alone, he’s looking at a $2959 fine and six months off the road.
Police note he was pulled over less than 2km from the site of a recent fatal collision, where speeding was believed to be the cause.
The driver was behind the wheel of a 1999 Camry Conquest V6, which is understood to have a top speed of more than 200km/h.
The 3.0-litre naturally aspirated V6 produces 141kW of power and 279Nm of torque, and has a 0-100km/h time of 7.8 seconds with the standard five-speed manual or 9.2 seconds with the four-speed automatic.
However, that 0-100km/h claim is best tested on a drag strip… not on a suburban street!

Police are appealing for public assistance after a hit and run crash at Hamlyn Terrace.
At about 8.15pm on Thursday, December 12, officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Police District were called to Minnesota Rd, Hamlyn Terrace, after reports a cyclist was hit by a car.
Police were told a 14-year-old boy was riding an e-bike in a southerly direction in a bike lane when it veered into traffic and was struck by a white utility.
The white utility failed to stop and left prior to police arrival.
The boy was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment, where he remains in a stable condition.
A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash commenced.
As inquiries continue, investigators have released an image of a vehicle seen in the area at the time of the incident.
Police wish to speak with the driver of the vehicle, who might be able to assist with inquiries.
Anyone with information, CCTV footage and or dashcam vision in relation to the crash is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Plans have been released for two new childcare centres at Hamlyn Terrace and Toukley
Little Miracles has lodged a development application with Central Coast Council to expand its childcare centre at 6A Pioneer Ave in Tuggerah Business Park
There are plans to add a 125sqm first floor
An extra three educators would be employed in the new playroom for 15 children aged three to four
There would not be any changes to parking or access to the childcare centre
but a shared parking agreement with The Lakes Evangelical Church allows use of their 70-space car parking area from Monday to Saturday
a new childcare centre is proposed for a vacant lot at 166 Warnervale Rd
It would be a single-storey centre with six playrooms for 120 children aged up to five
The centre would operate from 6.30am to 6.30pm and employ 19 caregivers
A third centre has been proposed for 102-104 Evans Rd
Approval is being sought to demolish the existing house on the block to make way for the 100-place centre
The centre would employ 16 caregivers and one manager for children aged up to five
All three applications are open for public exhibition and comment on Central Coast Council’s website
Submissions for the Tuggerah centre (DA 362/2022) close on May 27

New plans for a medical centre in Hamlyn Terrace have been lodged with Central Coast Council
to modernise the building and bring it up to building code standards
In 2005 Council approved a combined nursing home and medical centre project at 88-102 Louisiana Rd with Hakea Grove Aged Care opening in 2015 and the medical centre planned as stage two
Since then surrounding sites in the health precinct have evolved
including a major upgrade at Wyong Hospital
and Austvina Education & Immigration Services Pty believes their original medical centre design is now less than the highest standard for market expectations
A report in the development application says that changes to the relevant Australian Standards and Building Code of Australia provisions over the past 17 years render parts of the original approved design non-compliant and impractical
The report says that modified plans are a result of detailed design development but retain the same approved use
The internal floor plan has been revised for increased functionality and flexibility for future tenants
the exterior façade of the building will be modernised including passive solar design elements and there will be improvements to basement and external parking provision
There will be 238 car parking spaces allocated to the medical centre as well as a pedestrian link to the adjacent Wyong Hospital
The modified development application (236/2005/F) can viewed on Central Coast Council’s website and submissions will be received until Monday
Dramatic scenes as heavily armed police storm a property at Hamlyn Terrace on the New South Wales Central Coast
A man was shot dead at a property on the New South Wales Central Coast after a car pursuit Thursday morning, NSW police have confirmed.
Police say the man was killed in a dramatic standoff at a property in Hamlyn Terrace.
Assistant Commissioner Max Mitchell told a press conference that police opened fire after he pointed a long-armed firearm at them.
A search is still under way for a second man believed to have fled the scene, with officers scouring the bushland behind Warnervale public school.
Mitchell said a member of the public initially pursued the two men in the stolen vehicle at about 9am, before alerting authorities.
Officers then lost sight of the vehicle after it rammed another vehicle.
Another member of the public alerted them to the Hamlyn Terrace address, where the confrontation occurred, the commissioner said.
When police arrived, they found the vehicle, thought to be a Toyota Land Cruiser, set alight, Mitchell said.
Officers could be seen taking cover on the property with their guns drawn, with aerial footage showing a body on the ground, covered by a sheet.
The men chose the property at random, according to Mitchell, and were seen trying to break into the garage before the shooting occurred.
Heavily armed police stormed the property near Minnesota Road at Hamlyn Terrace.
Mitchell said he thought the actions of the officers were courageous, considering the situation.
“Having a double-barrel firearm pointed at you, fear of life, there can be no more strenuous position for a police officer to be placed into.”
Emergency services were on the scene, and road closures put in place and local schools placed in lockdown.
A police statement said a critical incident team from the homicide squad will investigate the incident, which would then be subject to an independent review.

Central Coast Council has completed its draft Greater Warnervale Structure Plan which is expected to go on public exhibition from January to March 2023
It’s a land-use strategy for future planning through to 2041 with a long-term vision and principles to guide development in the Greater Warnervale area encompassing Jilliby
Greater Warnervale is now home to about 21,000 residents and 7,000 homes and it is expected by 2041 there will be an additional 35,000 residents and 12,000 dwellings
which is about a third of the overall future housing supply for the Central Coast
The Plan also considers providing enough employment land for an additional 8,500 jobs to improve the local economy and jobs close to home
The aim is to ensure orderly development of land with short
medium and long-term progress with recreational improvements such as playgrounds
shared pathways as well as promoting natural features including waterfront areas
Among the long list of actions set out by Council in the Plan is a range of proposals to Transport for NSW for improvements along Sparks Rd/Pacific Highway; to advocate for a Food Innovation Centre within the Greater Warnervale area; to improve walking and cycling networks and ensure they are incorporated in subdivision designs
Sporting and community facilities will be bolstered with plans for a regional playspace
a new sports ground in the southern area; an aquatic/leisure centre with multi-purpose community facility; upgrade and expansion of sports complexes at Woongarrah
Wadalba and Warnervale Oval; a new community facility at Wadalba; and a park in Peony Pl
The Plan also considers boundaries for biodiversity corridors throughout the area with a suggestion they should be a minimum of 50m to 100m wide and Council will liaise with private landowners to encourage conservation opportunities
Council’s Director for Environment and Planning
said at Council’s Tuesday meeting that the plan showed anticipated staging of growth
“Short-term development is focussed around Central Coast Airport
the employment precinct and existing residential areas with medium-term development at Charmhaven and Kanwal and expansion of housing in Wallarah and Woongarrah to occur later,” she said
There are 10 precincts in the Plan for more localised future rezoning and planning investigations
Precinct 1 is Wyong Employment Zone including Central Coast Airport
large areas reserved for biodiversity and a small amount of rural-residential land west of the M1 motorway
Precinct 2 is Warnervale Village surrounding the railway station where medium and low-density housing is planned
along with educational and recreational land uses
Regional commercial and recreational uses planned for the western portion of Precinct 2 will rely on the future Warnervale Link Road to connect through to Wyong
Upgrade of the railway crossing on Warnervale Rd is an important planning issue as it is increasingly busy and prone to flooding
a greenfield release area between the Wyong Employment Zone and the railway
and includes large-lot residential around Bruce Cres where a change is proposed to increase low-density housing development
Precinct 4 is Warnervale Town Centre which was initially intended to provide key commercial
civic and community services for locals and a new train station
Although the station is no longer in future plans by Transport for NSW
development of a smaller commercial centre has already started and housing will occupy the remainder of the land
Proposed outcomes for this precinct include a traditional shopping main street with connections to the residential Hill Top Park and a shared path network to the Wyong Employment Zone
Lake Haven and Wadalba commercial and retail centres
Predominantly residential areas – Precincts 5 to 8 – are Wadalba
The medical Precinct 9 incorporates Wyong Hospital and health services as well as seniors living and retirement housing
a large-lot residential and industrial area
with plans for more employment uses and possibly an aged care sector
Residents in the northern suburbs have been on high alert for almost two weeks with two low pressure systems leaving a trail of destruction in their wake
Only days after recovering from the first low
which swept through on July 12 causing widespread damage
emergency services were again bracing for the next onslaught and warning residents to make preparations to protect their properties against damaging winds and heavy rain
The Bureau of Meteorology was forecasting a coastal low which would bring heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding
damaging winds strong enough to bring down trees and powerlines
and large and powerful waves resulting in hazardous beach conditions and erosion
Wyong SES Unit started severe weather warnings on Thursday
calling on people to secure their properties
The deep low pressure system that formed off the southern Queensland coast moved south to batter the Central Coast on Saturday and Sunday
with winds averaging 70km/h and gusting up to 90km/h
Relentless heavy rain fell overnight on Saturday
causing widespread flash flooding at houses and on roads
Bureau of Meteorology figures show Wyee as the Coast’s wettest suburb with over 200mm rain since Sunday with Hamlyn Terrace recording 163mm and The Entrance 109mm
Wyee Point Rural Fire Service reported a busy weekend with six incident calls ranging from assisting NSW Ambulance Service to extract a patient
a search and rescue of people lost in bushland west of Wyee Point
Tuggerah and Ourimbah RFS crews responded to an unknown fire at Kangy Angy around 4pm
Crews were then called to reports of a motor vehicle alight some distance into the Ourimbah State Forest just after 5pm
The vehicle and a small area of bush were extinguished and police are investigating the cause of the fire
said three crews worked all weekend to keep up with the 26 incidents they were called to
“We had just cleared up all our weekend jobs by Monday afternoon and then we were called to nine new jobs on Tuesday morning,” Robson said
She said most of the jobs were helping with rain inundation at houses and flash flooding around houses and on roads
we had to clear up a few trees that had come down and a few flood rescues where cars had got into trouble,” Robson said
“We went to Burns Rd in Ourimbah three times to rescue cars out of flood waters
we assisted police when a car crashed into a house and knocked the corner of the house out.”
Central Coast Council announced road closures at: Louisiana Rd
between Warnervale Rd and Georgia Rd; Hue Hue Rd

completely flooding the yard and lapping over into the swimming pool
residents are saying that the aftermath is often worse
NSW real estate: suburbs where homebuyers have the advantageSam Murden
Interest rates are predicted to continue rising in 2023
New data has revealed a number of suburbs across NSW where conditions are favourable to buyers and investors have sizeable bargaining power
The research commissioned by mortgagee lender Well Money took both house and unit markets and discounted suburbs that were experiencing stagnant demand over the past decade
Suburbs were then ranked based on the number of years’ profit (from lowest to highest) that vendors would give up if they sold at a 10 per cent discount
The Northern Rivers town of Alstonville topped the list of suburbs where conditions were most favourable to buyers and investors
Alstonville has experienced a net price gain of 165 per cent over the past decade
with a median asking price of $901,600 in December 2022
Alstonville topped the list of the best suburbs for buyers and investors to purchase a property
with homes like 20 Elliott Ave available for $850,000 – $900,000
Well Money CEO Scott Spencer said the ranking was designed to help investors and buyers who wanted to buy in quality locations across NSW while also holding the negotiating power over vendors
“Buyers hold a negotiating advantage in each of these suburbs right now
because vendors have enjoyed capital growth of at least 45 per cent over the past decade
“Another reason why buyers have the edge in these suburbs is because market conditions have been turning in their favour
as demand relative to supply has been falling.”
Market conditions have been turning in favour towards buyers due to falling demand
the house market of Valla Beach ranked second on the list – experiencing a net price gain of 147 per cent over the past decade
Valla Beach also enjoyed the lowest median asking price for houses on the list
with the average home costing $560,000 to buy and only a year of profit lost if sold at a discounted price
Of the 20 suburbs identified as being buyer and investor friendly
Valla Beach ranked second among the best to buy or invest in NSW
with homes like 30 Seaforth Drive available for $935,000
The unit market of Kellyville Ridge experienced an 89 per cent net price gain over the past decade and has a median asking price of $508,250
A vendor would lose one and a half years of profit if they sold their unit at a discounted price in the suburb
Kingswood was the only other unit market to make the list
experiencing a 118 per cent net price gain with a median asking price of $958,000
Kellyville Ridge ranked the highest among units in NSW
While the suburbs in the report were indicative of being strong locations for investors
Mr Spencer urged them to be prudent with their finances
“All of the suburbs have low inventory levels
which will put upward pressure on price growth
which will put upward pressure on rental growth,” he said
Units only made up two of the top 20 best buyer and investment suburbs
“Interest rates have been rising and will probably increase even further in the first half of 2023
so investors need to budget for higher repayments
It’s risky to enter the market if you don’t believe you’d have the capacity to cope with higher interest rates.”
