Heidelberg Materials Australia has made an acquisition
Heidelberg Materials Australia has confirmed its acquisition of Midway Concrete
The two organisations have entered a conditional purchase agreement
Midway Concrete specialises in premixed concrete and operates four concrete plants in Laverton
“This acquisition complements Heidelberg Materials’ existing concrete and quarry operations within Melbourne and aligns with our strategy of acquiring bolt-on assets that support the company’s existing integrated positions in major markets,” Heidelberg Materials Australia chief executive officer Phil Schacht said
“Midway’s proven track record over the last 20 years will be a valuable addition to Heidelberg Materials’ operations.”
Midway Concrete has built a reputation for supplying high-quality products
especially in the Melbourne and Geelong areas
The acquisition is conditional on gaining informal merger clearance from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission
It is expected to be completed by mid-2025
“We established this family business 23 years ago in Sunshine (Melbourne) with two trucks and it grew to become one of Melbourne’s most trusted concrete suppliers,” Midway Concrete owners David and Sharon Boxshall said.
“We would personally like to thank all the Midway employees and customers for their friendship and support throughout the decades and we look forward to watching Midway Concrete’s next journey with Heidelberg Materials.”

while former Turtles Brent Macaffer and Matthew Williamson shone for the Blues

With a classy midfield sending the ball to the dangerous forwards

Betts alone will be worth the price of admission alone as intrigue surrounds how well he’ll sync with his fellow Stars teammates
The Turtles recovered from a loss to Heidelberg West in the opening round to withstand a challenge from an improved Reservoir outfit in Round 2
Matt Sleeman’s men are renowned for finding a way to win in recent years and have been consistent finals performers as a result

While both outfits hope to be well entrenched in the top five by year’s end
Laurimar is 1-1 and currently seventh on the ladder while the Demons are 10th and without a victory
Mernda will be desperate to get on the board this round
but it will be a difficult assignment to be able to overcome Laurimar on their home deck
Robert Fletcher’s men do have Lachlan Evans and Matthew Campbell in form
while teenager Lincoln Coffey impressed in the previous round
If they can restrict the supply to Patrick Fitzgerald
it will go a long way towards Mernda getting the four points
Jimmy Atkins’ men rebounded from a loss to the Stars to record a hard-fought win over Epping last round
With classy players of the ilk of Kaiden Arthur and Joel Lawson up forward to support Fitzgerald
Power fans would approach this match with a good degree of confidence in what shapes as an important early season encounter
Epping has back-to-back home games either side of the Easter break

The Lakers had a strong win against 2024 wooden spooners in Lalor in their only game so far this year and now get to test themselves against a team that played finals last season
Brad Hollow’s team should be hard to beat on the back of a convincing win over Mernda followed by a close loss to the Power
Macaffer and Williamson have hit the ground running and have added to an already dangerous midfield and forward setup
Dave Florance will be keen for his team to get off to a good start just like they did in 2023 when they started with a 7-1 record
With games against Kilmore and Laurimar to come
the Lakers will sense this clash as an opportunity to stay in the pack
Two teams looking to establish themselves as a finals contender in 2025 face off when Heidelberg West hosts Kilmore at Heidelberg Park

Paul Derrick’s men have won the last two clashes at this venue
including a shock two-point triumph in 2023 as huge underdogs
Blues fans will be hoping that this trend continues
In what has become an important contest in recent times
Lalor lock horns with Reservoir at Lalor Reserve
These teams have been cellar-dwellers in the past few years but have both been on the improve over the last 12 months
The Mustangs look to have performed better so far this year
especially when considering that they led Old Eltham Collegians at half time a fortnight ago before going down by 36 points
Newly acquired Aaron Edwards has proven to be a target up forward and sits equal second on the goal-kicking table with seven majors
He has been well supported by Joshua Grabowski who has four goals for the season to date
while captain Joseph Palazzolo has been influential
The Bloods have been soundly beaten so far
but both losses came in the two longest road trips the team will make this season
Lance Whitnall’s men will feel much more comfortable on their home deck
and they would have pencilled in this match-up as a chance to secure their maiden win for 2025
Hirsi Twomey’s return to the club as captain has been a success and he has impressed in both games so far
Bloods fans will be hoping he gives his team first use of the ball and that they can get the ball into the hands of Sam Rexhepi

Southern Ports’ Port of Bunbury has gained a new customer
Heidelberg Materials exported more than 50,000 tonnes of high-quality silica sand from the Port of Bunbury last week to South Korea where it will be used in glass manufacturing for smart phones
The silica sand was hauled 200 kilometres to the Port of Bunbury
for exporting on a bulk carrier Tomini Dynasty
“We’ve had a host of new customers at our Port of Bunbury over the past year including the likes of Sugar Australia and Helix Energy Solutions
all with very different requirements and we’ve been able to work closely with them to ensure we can meet their needs,” Keith Wilks
“We’re continuously looking at how we can work with our customers to build trade and ensure shipping is moving efficiently
so we’re thrilled when new customers like Heidelberg Materials join us based on what we can offer.”
Heidelberg Materials Silica Sand Program Market Development Manager Phil Green said the Port of Bunbury is now a part of Heidelberg Materials’ expansion plans
“This development is expected to further enhance our capabilities and streamline our operations
providing us with more flexibility and efficient shipping options,” says Phil
“We’ve started working with Southern Ports to determine how we continue to increase our exports
which have previously been restricted by access to berth space and vessels at other ports.”
We’ve trialed rotating container technology for the first shipment of silica sand out of the Port of Bunbury
and will work with Southern Ports and Qube on what future loading options might look like.”
Heidelberg Materials has become the second exporter of silica sand at the Port of Bunbury joining Kemerton Silica Sands
Heidelberg Materials (once known as Hanson Australia) has previously exported silica sand to 10 different countries with approximately 16 vessels per year – and is now looking to return to these markets with the support of Bunbury Port and available shipping slots

Heidelberg dominate at Lakeside as South Melbourne suffer heavy defeat; Quintas’ quiet farewell sparks coaching change
Esteban Quintas is no longer head coach of South Melbourne
following a crushing 3-0 home defeat to Heidelberg United on Sunday
While no official statement has yet been released
sources have confirmed to Neos Kosmos that the Latin American coach has parted ways with the club
His exit appears to have been in motion even before kick-off
Quintas’ behaviour ahead of and during the match raised eyebrows
with the coach embracing staff members around the pitch before the game in what seemed like emotional farewells
Throughout the game—and even after the final whistle—his calm and subdued manner was uncharacteristic
suggesting the decision had already been made
South Melbourne’s performance reflected the turbulence behind the scenes
dominated from start to finish in what was their fifth consecutive win
the scoreline masked South’s struggles
The home side registered just two shots in the entire 90 minutes
a statistic that underlines a performance described as “disastrous” by club insiders
They attacked at will and broke through with three second-half goals: Alexis Lesiotis in the 58th minute
and Akinari Yokokawa sealing the win in the 84th
Coach Anastasias was full of praise for his team’s second-half display
which saw them convert flair into substance and secure a commanding victory
The 3-0 result sends a clear message to the rest of the NPL—Heidelberg are serious title contenders and won’t be pulling any punches this season
As South Melbourne now face uncertainty and regroup without Quintas

Heidelberg United FC - 3 (Josh PIN 43’ 105’
Sean ELLIS 120+1’) Central Coast Mariners FC - 1 (Mikael DOKA 53’)
Heidelberg United etched their name further into Australia Cup history by downing reigning A-League champions Central Coast Mariners
It is only the second time in the Cup’s history that a federation member club has knocked out the A-Leagues’ reigning champions and the first time in eight years
Heidelberg held their own in the first half despite Central Coast’s fast start
they were given the chance to make the breakthrough
Asahi Yokokawa raced into the left of the box and was tripped over by Brian Kaltak
Josh Pin stepped up from the spot and blasted the ball towards the top left corner
where Central Coast goalkeeper Adam Pavlesic’s right hand could not prevent it from going in
United took their lead into the break; halfway to securing another upset in the 2024 Australia Cup
the Mariners worked to snuff out a historic result and restored parity eight minutes after halftime
Mikael Doka’s left-footed effort from the right of the area and took a deflecting
United withstood the Mariners’ attempts to find a winner in the rest of the second half
meaning extra time was required to separate the teams
with Heidelberg’s desperate defending keeping them in the game
the home side retook the lead at the end of the first period of extra time
Pin received the ball in the right of the box and picked out of the left side of the goal with an accurate finish
Heidelberg finished off the Mariners in dying embers of extra time
Jayden Gorman chased down a seemingly lost ball into the left channel that Pavlesic had come out to
He played it into the box with a vacant goal where Mohamed Aidara effectively dummied for legendary winger Sean Ellis to fire home
Ellis’ fairytale goal was the final act in United’s stunning Cupset to make the Round of 16.
Olympic FC - 1 (Linden FARR 96’) APIA Leichhardt FC - 0
The teams played out an even first half as they wrested for control of the ball
with chances hard to come by and tackles flying in
They were unable to be separated at the break
leaving it all to play for in the second half for a spot in the next round
The game opened up in the second half with only a series of saves from APIA’s Anthony Bouzanis and Olympic’s Matt Lugo keeping the scores at 0-0 at full-time
Olympic finally found the first goal of the match
Linden Farr picked up the ball in the left of the box and passed a low finish into the far corner from a narrow angle
APIA’s task became much harder in chasing the game when they were reduced to 10 men following Michael Kouta’s red card on the stroke of halftime in extra time
Olympic kept out their opponents for the rest of extra time to qualify for the Round of 16.
NWS Spirit FC - 3 (Michael KONESTABO 27’
Zachary CIANCI 62’) Glenorchy Knights FC - 0
NWS Spirit made more history for the club on Wednesday night
going one better than their only previous Final Rounds venture in 2022 by comprehensively downing Glenorchy Knights
Spirit had control over the ball in the first period
and they provided a couple of clinical moments to break the game open
Michael Konestabo turned in a left-sided cross at the far post that Richard Darko had headed on
Jacob Chidiac slipped Darko into the left of the box
and he made no mistake with a powerful strike past Knights’ goalkeeper Chris Marques
Spirit’s quickfire double put them in a commanding position at home as they went into the sheds
The hosts maintained the momentum and scored their third just after the hour mark
a reaction save from Spirit keeper Christopher Marques followed by a scramble to force the ball home at one end
paved the way for Zachary Cianci who profited from a left-sided cross that found him at the back post for a cool finish
Spirit saw out the rest of the game to earn the win and their place in the Round of 16.
It looks like nothing was found at this location

who were instrumental in the team’s success last year

the team is shaping up to be a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming season
While the on-field performance of a football team is undoubtedly crucial
it’s the off-field efforts that truly solidify their success
Heidelberg United recognised that with a recent official dinner for their sponsors
A team is only as strong as its supporters
and this event was a tribute to the companies and individuals who have continuously backed the club
The evening was a celebration of the strong partnership between business and sport
It’s safe to say that Heidelberg United’s secret to success extends beyond their skill on the field
but rather in their ability to cultivate a strong and supportive community off the field as well
