Highfields aged care residents are getting into the spirit of the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers
Seniors who live at Carinity Brownesholme have transformed the aged care community for its spring carnival celebrations
Over the past few months enthusiastic residents attended weekly workshops where they made around 2,000 paper flowers which now decorate the Carinity Brownesholme building
The centrepiece of the display is in the building’s foyer
where a stairway has been transformed to look like a cascading waterfall with platypus and water lilies
“The residents have been so invested in getting the decorations up and the whole place has a buzz about it,” said Carinity Brownesholme Diversional Therapist
“It has been lovely spending time setting it all up with them
Now we are seeing the residents’ own areas getting decorated as they say they are inspired – which was secretly our goal.”
savvy residents created flowers from disused products
This included repurposing clean food place mats and reclaiming colourful wrappers off other products
Family members also knitted and crocheted flowers to donate to Carinity Brownesholme’s spring carnival project
“We are encouraging our residents to be bright and bold and colour our world,” said Residential Manager
our residents are being engaged by enjoying the specially curated secret garden and other spring displays around the site
“The secret garden is particularly lovely as residents seem to discover something new there each time they see the display.”
Residents and their families are being encouraged to decorate their living spaces with flowers
with awards to be presented for best dressed doors

Highfield Resources Ltd has announced that Beijing Energy International Holding Co.
Ltd (Beijing Energy) has received a statement of no objection from the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) regarding its proposed US$50 million investment in Highfield through the purchase of ordinary shares at A$0.50 per share
This investment forms a key component of Highfield’s ‘Cornerstone Placement’ and ‘Southey Vend-In’ transactions

Demand for potash – a key agricultural input – is poised to rise globally, and Highfield Resources Ltd (ASX:HFR) is moving to position itself as a key player in a critical market
rigorous ESG frameworks and robust financial support
the company sees itself as well equipped to supply critical agricultural markets
supporting global food security while delivering strong value to shareholders
playing a crucial role in fertiliser to increase crop yields amid growing populations and diminishing arable land
Global food security depends increasingly on fertiliser inputs
and the European and North American potash markets are key regions for sustainable supply
Highfield’s flagship Muga Project in Spain and the recently acquired Southey Project in Canada are positioned to supply these regions with high-quality potash
meeting rising demand with strategically located assets
The company’s flagship Muga Potash Mine in northern Spain is fully permitted and construction-ready
positioned to deliver around 1 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of Muriate of Potash (MOP)
Set for production over a 30-year lifespan
Muga is in proximity to major European markets
allowing for lower transportation costs and higher mine gate netbacks
Its infrastructure includes nearby access to road networks
a renewable grid power connection and a logistics network that maximises delivery efficiency to Europe’s fertiliser markets
With a projected EBITDA of €340 million per annum and an NPV of €1.82 billion
Muga’s two-phase development requires an estimated pre-production investment of €449 million for Phase 1
with a further €286 million anticipated for Phase 2
Muga benefits from conventional underground mining methods and environmentally friendly practices
minimising surface residue and meeting rigorous ESG standards
Highfield’s acquisition of Yancoal Canada’s Southey Project in Saskatchewan – one of the world’s premier potash-producing regions – was an important step in diversifying the company’s asset portfolio
The Southey Project employs solution mining technology and is well-situated for efficient distribution across North America via existing rail and port networks
This asset provides Highfield with long-term growth optionality and solidifies its footprint in two tier-1 jurisdictions
enabling the company to tap into both the North American and European markets
Highfield’s capital transformation is underpinned by a US$220 million cornerstone placement
structured through equity subscription agreements (ESAs) at A$0.50 per share
Highfield is also engaged in discussions with other strategic investors to raise an additional US$50 million
bolstering its financial position and enabling the acquisition of Yancoal Canada for US$286 million
This robust funding base secures Muga’s development through Phase 1 while supporting Highfield’s broader strategy to establish a diversified
high-margin potash portfolio with assets in prime agricultural markets
Highfield’s projects reflect a commitment to sustainable and responsible mining practices
an Environmental Surveillance Plan (PVA) is in place
and the company is rolling out advanced environmental controls
facilitates ongoing dialogue with local stakeholders
earning recognition under the UN Global Compact initiative as a model for social responsibility
Highfield Resources’ expansion into Canada and substantial funding for the Muga Project sets the stage for its emergence as a top-tier potash producer
strategically positioned to meet demand in Europe and North America
the issues around gender equality are complex
Whilst there are plenty of women who work in travel
the demographic of the industry is not always reflected at the top where men still hold a disproportionate number of roles
Inside Travel Group’s national sales manager Amanda Highfield speaks on where the travel industry still has further to go when it comes to being the best place it can be for women to work
While women make up a significant portion of the travel industry
there is still a notable lack of representation in senior leadership positions and insufficient support for women’s health needs
It would be inspiring to see more women in top roles
creating a more balanced and diverse leadership dynamic within companies
Imagine the impact on talent retention and recruitment if companies were truly committed to equal pay for equal work
offered transparent career advancement pathways for women
and provided mentorship and training programs specifically designed to develop women’s leadership potential
as well as better return-to-work opportunities with flexible arrangements
we’re actively working to create a Diversity and Inclusion Committee to champion equity throughout our organisation
It would be incredible to see this kind of initiative become the industry standard
paving the way for a more inclusive and empowering future for women in travel
We all know the travel industry often involves irregular hours
which can impact a woman’s ability to balance family and career – particularly for those with caregiving responsibilities
it’s no surprise that talent is being lost to higher-paying industries
making attracting new talent to the sector increasingly difficult
The pandemic certainly forced businesses to be more open to flexible work options such as remote work
flexible hours or job-sharing arrangements
there is still much more that companies can do to stay competitive in terms of talent acquisition
so it’s essential to engage with employees
and regularly assess policies and staff benefits to ensure they align with these needs
Inside Travel Group is committed to balancing purpose and profit
prioritising sustainability and social responsibility in all aspects of its operations
This ethos naturally influences every role within the organisation
Our vison is to build a global cultural adventure tour operator which
leads the travel industry towards a more sustainable future and protects travel for future generations
We believe passionately that travel can be a force for good in the world
Each role at Inside Travel Group can have a meaningful impact on sustainability
from operational decisions to customer interactions
By embedding sustainability into daily activities
employees contribute to the company’s broader goals of social and environmental responsibility
consistent actions that collectively drive change
sustainability extends beyond just using eco-friendly printing options and offsetting flights
It’s a core element of our storytelling
It’s about educating and engaging both the trade and our clients
By raising awareness about sustainable travel options
we aim to inspire more people to embrace responsible tourism
and travel choices that support conservation
I don’t view it as a purely transactional sale
When you’re truly passionate about the product and destination
it’s more about sharing unforgettable travel experiences and moments
When you genuinely believe in what you’re offering
it becomes less about the transaction and more about giving customers the chance to create their own memorable moments during their journeys
ask thoughtful questions that give you an insight into the company’s values and overall culture
Since we spend a significant amount of time at work
it’s essential to find a company whose mission and values resonate with your own
Seek out environments where mentorship is prioritised and are dedicated to fostering your professional development alongside the company’s growth
There’s plenty of opportunity for everyone to thrive together – don’t settle for working at a place that doesn’t recognise your value
This interview is part of our Women in Travel series ahead of the 2024 Women in Travel Awards
The awards celebrate women who have achieved astronomic success in their professional arenas
celebrating their invaluable contribution to the industry through leadership
This year the theme is ‘Follow her lead’ and we’ll be championing the power of community and women in the industry working together to create the best experiences possible for Australian travellers

Stocks Down Under gives you an information advantage to better invest and trade in ASX-listed stocks
Stuart Roberts
It was a long time in coming. Highfield Resources (ASX:HFR) started working on its Muga Potash Project in northern Spain in 2012
it has only been in the last 3 years that the project has got fully permitted
Last month Highfield was able to announce that Yankuang
the major Chinese miner behind the setup of Yancoal Australia
together with some other Chinese investors
would put in the last US$220m to get Muga up and running
but Yankuang would also transfer to Highfield a large but as-yet-undeveloped potash project in Canada called Southey
once the necessary foreign investment approvals are received
will be a major new potash company globally
Highfield Resources stock has barely moved on that ‘company-making’ news
We think there’s potentially a unicorn in the making
and potash is the mineral from which we get fertiliser-grade potassium
Potash is a great commodity to be invested in if your focus is the long term
The world’s population continues to grow and living standards are improving across the globe
That means people are eating more and better food
which in turn raises the need for more fertiliser to grow crops
particularly potash fertilisers where you get better crop yields and less depletion of soil fertility
that potash demand routinely goes up 2-3% per year
getting a new potash mine up and running can be hideously expensive and time consuming
Back in 2010 that company tried to buy Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan
BHP decided to develop its own mine instead
14 years later and Jansen Stage 1 in Saskatchewan is only about half way complete
And the two stages will cost about US$10bn in total
Up until recently the world got a lot of its potash from two countries many other countries would rather not do business with
Russia and Belarus combined provided around 40% of global potash exports in 2020
The restriction of that trade after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 highlighted the need for more potash from Tier 1 jurisdictions
where Highfield had its would-be company maker
Muga is located around 50 km southeast of Pamplona
the capital of Spain’s Navarra province famous for its annual ‘running of the bulls’ every July
The Ebro Basin in this part of Spain historically had potash mines and the tenements that Highfield holds cover an old potash mine called Subiza
which was a significant producer from 1977 to 1996
Highfield’s instincts when it started work in Navarra in 2012 was that the higher potash prices of the 2010s
combined with the near-surface nature of the potash resources here
the favourable Spanish labour rates and the proximity to ports would make for an economically compelling project
The most recent Nov 2023 Feasibility Study proves that instinct to be correct
This study envisaged a mine producing 1 million tonnes of potash annually over a 30 year mine life
The NPV of this operation at an 8% discount rate came in at a cool €1.82bn
would require €449m in capital costs for phase 1
in terms of attracting the requisite funding
was that it is a demonstrably high-margin operation
Highfield Resources intends to mine Muga by conventional room-and-pillar underground methods and has proposed a conventional flowsheet involving froth flotation
That has meant that the C1 costs of the mine (that is
without shipping or overhead costs) are only €108 per tonne
compared to a selling price for Muriate of Potash (MoP) of €436 per tonne
The current plan is to start with the 500,000 tonnes in Phase 1 and then spend another €286m to double the capacity to 1 million tonnes a year
The main attraction of investors to Muga is the location – it’s only a couple of hours drive northwest to the Port of Bilbao
making it super-fast to get product to export markets
it is located in a major European market for fertilisers
Which brings us to the current transaction
By last month Highfield Resources had managed to raise most of the debt funding it needed
Yankuang and other investors now close that gap with US$220m in equity funding
Highfield currently trades at around 30 cents per share on ASX
but Yankuang and the other Chinese investors will take their equity at 50 cents per share
The same price will be used for the shares that will be issued when the US$286m value for Southey is transferred
Yankuang ends up as the majority shareholder and a new
the financial strength to grow into a major player such as K+S AG with its €3.5-4bn in annual revenue
built originally off potash mines scattered across Germany’s heartland
Yankuang is a Chinese state-controlled group of companies mostly involved in coal mining
Australian investors will be familiar with the name because of its ASX-listed subsidiary
majority-owned by the Hong Kong-traded Yankuang Energy Group (SEHK: 1171) and also publicly traded in Hong Kong (SEHK: 3668)
such as Zhuanlongwan in Inner Mongolia with its 10 million tonne per annum capacity
has likely peaked as a source of energy globally
so even major producers like Yankuang are thinking about diversifying
Potash is an obvious commodity to move into and the way in which investors have back stocks like Yancoal suggest that they will back the new Highfield Resources as well
Highfield Resources will consider a Hong Kong listing
the Yankuang folks have done their homework on potash
That project could turn out to be another monster
Southey is about 60 km north of the Saskatchewan capital of Regina
in the same neighbourhood as Nutrien (the old PotashCorp) and Jansen
Yankuang was publicly talking about a 2.8 million tonnes per annum potash solution mine at Southey that would cost around C$3bn to build
It will be a few months until the new Highfield Resources is put together because regulators in China as well as Canada
Spain and Australia have to approve it – Canada because of the Southey asset transfer involving a foreign investor
Australia because Highfield is an Australian company that will become majority Chinese-controlled
Possibly investors are worried about these required approvals given recent antagonism between Western countries on the one hand and China on the other over trade as well as other matters
Balanced against this is Yancoal’s track record of being a good corporate citizen in Australia and the advantages to Spain of a new potash mine
Highfield Resources’ fundamentals have substantially improved from just a few years ago
And because the payoff is potentially very large
we believe investors should put Highfield Resources
on their watch lists ahead of the outcome on these approvals and the requisite shareholder votes

The company will also acquire the Saskatchewan-based Southey potash project from a subsidiary of Yankuang Energy
adding global diversification to its portfolio
Highfield Resources (ASX:HFR) announced that it has entered into binding agreements with several companies for a transaction centred on its transformation into a globally diversified potash company
The company said the deal includes agreements with Yankuang Energy Group (OTCQX:YZCHF,HKEX:1171)
including Beijing Energy International Holding and Singapore Taizhong Global Development
Highfield will raise US$220 million in equity capital through Yankuang Energy
the strategic investors and other entities
They will receive new shares at AU$0.50 each
a 64 percent premium above the company’s last closing price
Beijing Energy and Singapore Taizhong have respectively agreed to subscribe for up to US$90 million
US$50 million and US$30 million worth of new shares
Highfield has set up a non-binding letter of intent with another strategic investor that may subscribe for US$20 million worth of new shares
The company is also in talks with additional strategic investors regarding subscriptions for another US$50 million in new shares
Highfield's construction-ready Muga Phase 1 project is expected to be fully funded
and the company believes it is one of the most competitive potash projects globally
It covers about 46 square kilometres in the provinces of Navarra and Aragón in Northern Spain
Highfield will also acquire Yankuang Energy’s subsidiary Yancoal Canada Resources
which wholly owns the Southey potash project
for consideration amounting to US$286 million
This amount will be paid in new shares and will result in Yankuang being Highfield’s majority shareholder
Southey is a greenfield project established in 2011 and located approximately 60 kilometres north of Regina in Saskatchewan
Highfield said it intends for it to be a solution-mining potash project
Highfield is expected to become “a leading pure play potash company with a diversified portfolio of projects in tier-1 jurisdictions underpinned by strong ESG credentials.”
“This is an outstanding outcome which is expected to result in the commencement of Muga construction and puts Highfield on a very strong platform of growth for the future,” said Ignacio Salazar
“We are delighted to have reached agreement with organisations with the reputation
track record and balance sheet strength of Yankuang Energy
and Taizhong," added the Highfield executive
Assuming that all conditions of the transaction are satisfied
Highfield is anticipating completion in early 2025

Highfield Boats and ZeroJet Unveil EJET330: The First Production Battery-Powered
After receiving recognition for the collaboration at the Boat Builder Awards at METS 2023
announces the production release of the Highfield EJET330
This tender/RIB combines Highfield’s durability with ZeroJet’s new electric jet propulsion technology
The EJET330 stands out with its silent operation
This collaboration underscores Highfield’s move to lead eco-friendly marine technology without sacrificing performance
“We have been glad to tackle this challenge with ZeroJet
We are launching the world’s very first electric performance tender
offering a unique planing tender with adequate range and competitive pricing for the technology
The early response from the market has been very positive
I am delighted to see Highfield as a pioneer in the industry.”
The Highfield EJET330 features ZeroJet’s technology developed in New Zealand
integrating the RIB with ZeroJet’s 18kW (25HP) Jet Drive system
The EJET330 is a 3.36-metre RIB with a sturdy aluminium hull
Battery life and recharging times are noteworthy
the battery would last an entire weekend of typical tender use.” Recharging takes around 2.5 hours with a fast charger or 5 hours with the standard charger
“Driving an electric jet boat is the easiest experience you’ll ever have; it’s fast and fun
No loud engine noise means you can have a normal conversation while moving
With the jet and battery below the floor and not taking up valuable space
this makes it the largest small boat on the market with plenty of storage onboard
so it can skim over shallow ecosystems and easily ‘beach’
while no exposed propeller increases safety for swimmers.”
Some of the standout benefits would have to be the zero speed control; being an electric motor means it does not need to “idle.” No more jumping in and out of gear to move the boat around
This boat can literally turn 360 degrees on the spot; it’s nimble and manoeuvrable
providing an intuitive feeling even for inexperienced users
ZeroJet’s jet pump and compact electric motor weigh 50% less than a comparable outboard motor
while the 48V LiFePO4 batteries (10kWh) are housed inside a waterproof battery case under the deck
The EJET330 offers many benefits over traditional combustion engines
but the feature that is the most loved is the fact you don’t need to flush the engine after use
Gone are the days of having to stick a freshwater hose onto the back of the engine
“ZeroJet uses the safest Lithium chemistry
and a DNV-certified Dutch battery from Super B,” Neil explains
“Specialising in building their own electric motors and jet pumps from the ground up
with no gearboxes and a clever closed-loop cooling system
All this adds up to make ZeroJet’s tech the highest performing 48V system in the market
ZeroJet: Leading the Charge in Electric Marine Propulsion
the proud recipient of a DAME Award at the METS boat show in 2023
is expanding its operations into the European market with the establishment of its first offshore office this year
ZeroJet’s technology is revolutionising the electric boat world and is poised to impact other markets
ZeroJet is set to release the highest power-to-weight electric outboard
The company is collaborating with several prominent boat builders who are also adopting their electric systems
To support the increasing demand for its expanding product lines
ZeroJet is currently raising investment to accelerate its growth in the European and US markets

Previous structural and functional brain imaging studies of the sgACC have revealed alterations of Gray Matter (GM) volumes and Blood Oxygenation Level Dependent signals (BOLD) in patients with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Bipolar Disorder (BD), suggesting potential biomarker traits for affective disorders.
Post-hoc analysis revealed smaller subgenual volumes for the left hemisphere in both the medicated (MDDm) and non-medicated (MDDu) group versus healthy controls (p = .001, p = .008) respectively. For the right hemisphere, the (MDDu) and BD group exhibited significantly lower subgenual volumes than healthy controls (p < .001, p = .004) respectively.
To our knowledge, this is the first morphometric MRI study using T1 maps obtained in high-resolution 7 Tesla MRI to compare MDD and BD patients with healthy controls.

Background: The subgenual Anterior Cingulate Cortex (sgACC)
as a part of the Anterior Cingulate Cortex and the limbic system plays a crucial role in mood regulation
Previous structural and functional brain imaging studies of the sgACC have revealed alterations of Gray Matter (GM) volumes and Blood Oxygenation Level Dependent signals (BOLD) in patients with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Bipolar Disorder (BD)
suggesting potential biomarker traits for affective disorders
Method: In this study we investigated the gray matter volume of the sgACC in 3 different patient groups: 40 MDD patients
of which 20 were medicated (MDDm) and 20 were unmedicated (MDDu)
and compared them with 23 healthy volunteers
We examined GM volume alteration using high-resolution 7T Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) which produced quantitative maps of the spin-lattice relaxation time (T1)
T1 maps provide high contrast between gray and white matter
and at 7 Tesla voxels with submillimeter resolution can be acquired in a reasonable scan time
We developed a semi-automatic segmentation protocol based on refined landmarks derived from previous volumetric studies using quantitative T1 maps as raw input data for automatic tissue segmentation of GM
The sgACC ROI was then superimposed on these tissue probability maps and traced manually by two independent raters (F.B.
M.M.) following our semi-automatic segmentation protocol
Interrater reliability was calculated on a subset of 10 brain scans for each hemisphere
showing an Intra-Class Correlation coefficient (ICC) r = 0.96 for left sgACC and r = 0.84 for right sgACC respectively
we have developed a reproducible and reliable semi-automatic segmentation protocol to measure gray matter volume in the sgACC
Based on previous findings from meta-analyses on morphometric studies of the sgACC
we hypothesized that patients with MDD would have lower gray matter sgACC volumes compared to healthy subjects
Results: Post-hoc analysis revealed smaller subgenual volumes for the left hemisphere in both the medicated (MDDm) and non-medicated (MDDu) group versus healthy controls (p = .001
the (MDDu) and BD group exhibited significantly lower subgenual volumes than healthy controls (p < .001
this is the first morphometric MRI study using T1 maps obtained in high-resolution 7 Tesla MRI to compare MDD and BD patients with healthy controls
The aim of this study is to investigate gray matter volume among patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD) (19)
while benefiting from the higher resolution that 7T MRI provides over 1.5T or 3T MRI scanning
We applied our segmentation protocol to a sample of 40 MDD patients
and compared them with 23 healthy volunteers to examine for GM (gray matter) volume alteration
We hypothesized that subjects with MDD would have lower mean volumes in the subgenual ACC region compared to healthy controls
Exclusion criteria for patients were (1) a clinically significant neurological or other medical disorder (e.g
including history of traumatic brain injury)
(2) current or previous addiction or substance abuse
(3) suicidality and (4) general MR imaging exclusion criteria
Comparison of the study groups regarding demographic and clinical characteristics
a vertical extension from the Rostrum was utilized as maximum posterior limit

When there was a significant main effect of diagnosis
Post hoc group comparisons were evaluated against a Bonferroni-adjusted α level of significance set at p <.05 to correct for multiple comparisons
we explored relationships between our volumes and clinical characteristics
non-depressive or overall episode counts were calculated using Pearson’s r or Spearman’s q for non-normally distributed data respectively
Kendall’s τ was used to account for non-equidistant ordinal data
Homogeneity of (co)-variance was tested for all group comparisons using Brown-Forsythe test
Impact of candidate confounding variables on the sgACC volume
Absolute and corrected mean (± SD) sgACC volumes in mm3
The sgACC volumes did not correlate with clinical characteristics such as duration of illness (years since 1st episode)
the duration of the current episode (weeks since onset)
or overall illness episodes in the patient groups except for the sgACC volumes in the right MDDm group
which correlated significantly with disease severity scores such as the BDI-II (r20 = 0.48
The medicated patients were highly heterogeneous with respect to the psychopharmacological treatment within the 3 months prior to the neuroimaging
To test whether the sgACC volume was related to the different treatments
we grouped the medications according to their clinical use
Four homogeneous groups were identified as follows: antidepressant monotherapy (N = 9)
antidepressants combined with sedative medication (i.e.
antidepressants combined with either atypical neuroleuptics or lithium (N = 8) and therapies combining antidepressants with lithium plus atypical neuroleptics (N = 9)
One-way ANOVAs yielded no effect for the type of medication on the sgACC volume (left sgACC: F4
While their sample size of included ROI studies (n=5) was low
we could only find a significant volume reduction in right hemispheric sgACC in BD patients
or generally better illness course through earlier intervention seeking
this assumed neuroprotective effect was only pronounced in our patient samples for right hemispheric sgACC whereas for left hemispheric sgACC the medicated (MDDm) group exhibited even larger volume reductions than the MDDu group relative to healthy controls
The strength of this study lies in hypothesis-driven ROI measurements in line with previously validated clinical protocols and careful controls against experimental bias through blinding the raters to the diagnoses
and study groups were well balanced with respect to the main confounding variables age
we included in the present study only individuals without neurological and cardiovascular comorbidities
There was no evidence that additional clinical or demographic factors contributed to sgACC volume differences in our patients
Sulcal and gyral variability can be especially problematic for automated methods such as voxel-based morphometry (VBM), because they attempt to minimize differences in sulcal and gyral architecture by normalizing images to standard template space while also being prone to registration errors (71)
a ROI-based segmentation approach was chosen
while also benefitting from tissue probability maps (TPM) by means of predefining GM
WM and CSF tissue which reduced rater-dependent error and accounted for inter-individual variation of cortical folding patterns
Segmentation of sgACC GM tissue was performed manually to ensure consistency with known functional subdivisions defined in our segmentation protocol
we have demonstrated left sgACC gray matter reduction in both the medicated and unmedicated MDD patient samples
and right sgACC gray matter reduction in the unmedicated depressed (MDDu) and bipolar (BD) patient samples
Gray matter volume reduction in the sgACC could serve as a potential biomarker in prediction and differential diagnosis of affective disorders, although further validation of these morphological differences is needed. With progress being made in functional connectivity MRI, the sgACC remains a promising target area for Intermittent theta-burst stimulation (iTBS) protocols (26)
which have reported considerable remission outcomes in treatment-resistant depression by indirect stimulation of the sgACC
this investigation was cross-sectional and therefore provides limited information on the possible changes in sgACC volume over the course of illness
future studies also incorporate a longitudinal design with follow-up measurements to be able to further distinguish cause from consequence

As chaplain at the Carinity Brownesholme aged care community in Highfields
Tim Smith supports seniors who may be experiencing a difficult time in their lives
Tim became chaplain at Carinity Brownesholme last year, after serving in a similar role at Carinity Karinya Place aged care in Laidley for two years
He has extensive experience serving as a chaplain in both aged care and hospital settings
but has always gravitated towards supporting older people
“The difference between hospital chaplaincy and aged care chaplaincy is you can build a greater rapport with the aged care residents
“It’s a real pleasure to visit and chat with the residents
and to assure them that they are still valued
Tim’s role entails a variety of pastoral care including devotions
He also spends time with residents’ families
Standing at the front of the room and seeing the residents all singing hymns together
it’s lovely to witness the spiritual side of these people coming together in worship,” Tim said

It is the Brisbane-based company’s fourth major collaboration with Carinity in five years following construction of aged care sites in Townsville
Paynters currently has 70 local sub-contractors working at the Highfields site as part of stage one of a $67 million expansion of the seniors’ community
Is it part of Carinity’s vision for integrated services for seniors through the co-location of retirement villages and residential aged care and access to in-home care
“Carinity is committed to seniors’ communities that offer adaptive living

A well-travelled former chaplain is now overseeing the running of Carinity’s popular seniors’ community in Highfields
Peter Aspin is the new manager of the Carinity Brownesholme retirement village
Prior to coming to Carinity Brownesholme
he was living and working as a chaplain in Alice Springs
“This role entailed varied activities across the local network and community
He is a former auctioneer and minister who pastored at churches in Auckland
“Church leadership is fulfilling but life as an auctioneer was fast paced
Every role presents different challenges,” Peter says
Peter is just the third village manager at Carinity Brownesholme in its 26-year history
Managing Carinity Brownesholme is “both commercial and pastoral” for Peter
and his favourite aspect of his new role is interacting with around 80 retirees who live there
“Our residents are amazing. We have 61 independent living units
and every resident has wonderful stories to tell,” Peter says
“Their stories and the graciousness that comes through a settled and rich life are a constant source of inspiration.”
The retirement village is co-located with a new Carinity aged care community which is scheduled to open mid-year
It is anticipated that more than 90 local staff will work at the new 96-bed aged care community when it opens
“My hope is that Carinity Brownesholme will continue to grow and enrich the lives of all residents
To be a small part of the story is a reward in itself,” Peter says

Home Newsroom Barry dedicated to preserving Brownesholme history
Barry Barwick is the “custodian of the history of Brownesholme”
So much so that he dedicated more than 20 years – and a considerable financial outlay – to restore the original house from the former farm on which Carinity Brownesholme is now set
The land at Highfields on which the seniors’ community sits was once a dairy farm bequeathed to the Baptist Union of Queensland by the late Isobel “Molly” Browne
The home was built by Molly’s grandparents soon after their arrival in Queensland from Ireland in the early-1870s
Before she passed away in 1985, Molly was constantly approached to sell the land, but she was steadfast that the property be used for a retirement village and nursing home
The first part of Molly’s dream became a reality in 1995 when the purpose-built Brownesholme lifestyle retirement village opened
the old home in which she lived for more than 80 years was in a shocking state of near disrepair
and it was in the middle of the property and no one knew what to do with it,” Barry recalls
very bad state of repairs and things were falling down everywhere.”
A member of Toowoomba’s Baptist community and a historian who also owns the original Brazier’s brickworks building
Barry desperately wanted to retain another piece of local history
He and his wife Joan purchased Molly Browne’s house around 25 years ago and commenced their lengthy and painstaking restoration project
‘Why don’t I do something instead of waiting for somebody else to do it’,” Barry says
The Barwicks relocated the 145-year-old dwelling from Highfields to nearby Cabarlah
where Barry has restored the five-bedroom house to its near original state
got two semi-trailers and transported it across
We had to reinforce it all so it could be moved without falling down completely,” Barry says
“Once it was moved all that remained was a chimney standing alone in the middle of a paddock
I worked out how to move this 30-foot chimney.”
Barry’s attention to detail for his restoration project is astounding
Such is his dedication for authenticity he set the house on a block of land “facing the same way and with the same slope” as on the original Highfields property
The retiree also sourced more than 10 unique paint colours to match the original colour schemes throughout Molly Browne’s home
“I tend to have a tenacity about what I do
I’m a bit fanatical and I like to have things just the way they should be,” Barry explains
“It’s such a long-term job to restore one of these old houses if you want to get it back to its original state.”
Carinity Brownesholme Retirement Manager, Peter Aspin
thanked Barry for his unbelievable efforts to preserve historical buildings in the district
“Thanks to the Barwick’s wonderful restoration of the Browne family’s former homestead
this grand old house looks the same today as it did well over a century ago,” Peter says
tenacity and attention to detail that he even relocated old structures such as water tanks and sheds
from the former Browne property to the new site
“For volunteering countless hours and investing many
many dollars of their own money to keep a slice of local history alive
A new Carinity aged care community
“Those affected are receiving treatment and are doing well considering the circumstances,” Highfield Festival organizers said in a statement. “We are in close coordination with the fire brigade, the police, and the rescue and medical services. We will cordon off the ferris wheel accordingly and then continue operations as planned.”
Highfield Festival is one of Germany’s biggest music festivals, with around 30,000 attendees. This year’s lineup featured headliners Rise Against (whose set was delayed due to the Ferris wheel fire), Macklemore, and Peter Fox, with other performers such as Flogging Molly, Less Than Jake, the Kooks, Mando Daio, Marsimoto, Cro, and more.
John Quinn has confirmed Highfield Princess will sidestep a trip to the Breeders’ Cup in favour of a tilt at the Hong Kong Sprint in December
The popular mare won three times at Group One level last season – landing the Prix Maurice de Gheest
the Nunthorpe and the Flying Five Stakes – before rounding off her campaign with a creditable fourth place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Keeneland in November
She was beaten in her first three starts of this season and had to make do with the runner-up spot behind the Breeders’ Cup-bound Live In The Dream when defending her Nunthorpe crown in August
but was last seen adding to her top-level tally in the Prix de l’Abbaye at ParisLongchamp a fortnight ago
Connections considered a possible second tilt at Breeders’ Cup glory
but Highfield Princess will instead be readied for a first assignment in the Far East
we’re going to go to Hong Kong with her,” said Quinn
It’s six furlongs in Hong Kong and the ground can be rattling hard in America – at Santa Anita it can be like the road
We just thought all in all we’d plump for Hong Kong
We just want to keep her in good form and have her in good nick and we’ll give it a twirl.”
