Truck Centre Western Australia (TCWA) founder Max Winkless has had his say on the acquisition of his business by Volvo Group Australia
and says the deal is a recognition of the “incredible work” the company has done since its foundation
The acquisition of the company was announced by Volvo Group Australia last week
and will see all eight existing branches and service centres fall under the Volvo banner from July 1
Volvo has said TCWA’s operations will remain the same and existing staff will transition with the business
but Winkless has announced the acquisition will also mark the departure of TCWA CEO Brad Daff after 37 years of service
“Today is the beginning of a new chapter for Truck Centre WA as we announce we have officially joined forces with Volvo Group Australia
with Volvo Group Australia officially acquiring Truck Centre WA effective 1st July 2025,” Winkless says
“With this timing in mind (and with a heavy heart) I would also like to announce there will be changes within our leadership team
with the retirement of Brad Daff after 37 years of service
Brad’s leadership has provided Truck Centre WA with tremendous growth
while navigating tough economic conditions and a pandemic
He’s built a legacy within Truck Centre WA and we would like to thank him for his dedication throughout his tenure
Brad will head off into a well-earnt retirement from 1st of July
“This acquisition marks a change in ownership
we’ll be able to offer better solutions to customers
“This recognises the incredible work our team
suppliers and customers have contributed to build Truck Centre WA to what it is today
People have been at the heart of our success as a business
Winkless is often referred to as the father of Volvo Trucks in Australia and was the first person to import the brand into the country back in 1965
the challenges we’ve overcome together is incredibly humbling,” he continues
Although the time has come for Brad and I to pass on the baton
I know the company will be in great hands with Volvo Group Australia.”

The death of a Kewdale mother-of-two on Monday night is being treated by police as a “horrific domestic incident” witnessed by the woman’s two daughters who begged for her life to be spared

Emmerich Lasakar, 35, died a short time later in hospital of the injuries she sustained. Her partner, Steven Dean, was taken into police custody for questioning shortly after the tragedy.
While police have yet to charge the 37-year-old business-owner
Police Commissioner Col Blanch told ABC’s Nadia Mitsopoulos on Wednesday it was the “likely outcome”
“We’ve got some issues with medical – he was involved in a serious crash
“Let us do the investigation and I’m sure we’ll move to a position where charges will be laid.”

“Domestic violence murders across Australia are
One is too many but we do see them time and time again
It’s tragically sad for the families involved.”
statistics show one woman a week gets killed by their current or former partner in Australia
is under police guard in hospital following the death of his partner and a subsequent car crash
Perth clinical psychologist Donna Stambulich said there was usually a build up to the moment a partner snaps
we’ve been relying on the idea that it’s a crime of passion and that it’s spontaneous
there’s planning involved and there’s always coercive control
Some of the things they have in common are a pre-relationship history of stalking
the romance developing quickly or what we call ‘love bombing’ and there’s usually a trigger that threatens the perpetrator’s control.”
That trigger could be the woman getting new friends or spending more time with family
“They’re losing that grip and then what we see is the escalation
the increase in the intensity of the partner’s control tactics,” Stambulich said
“That is usually when a woman starts to ask for help or starts talking about it
“The biggest times of risk are in the weeks after a person has left the relationship.”

WA home sells for well below market valueJames MacSmith
The home of one of Australia’s most notorious serial killers has sold well below market
The Kewdale home where Claremont murderer Bradley Robert Edwards spent much of his life was sold in October
The run down three-bedroom home was sold for $390,000 in October after 28 days on the market via an expressions of interest campaign with Craig Goodridge of Welsh Real Estate
The Kewdale home Bradley Robert Edwards lived in for much of his adult life
The median price for a three-bedroom home in Kewdale
in southeast Perth is $470,000 according to realestate.com.au
The home sits on a large 794 sqm block near sought-after Tomato Lake
There were concerns the home may become an attraction for unwanted tourists
But it has had a demolition order place on it
due to its dilapidated state including a collapsed ceiling
According to The West Australian
proceeds from the home will go towards paying off some of Edwards’ legal feeds
In December last year Edwards was sentenced to life behind bars with a minimum of 40 years to be served after being found guilty of murdering childcare worker Jane Rimmer
Homes linked to serious crimes can often sell below expectations and below market value
The four-bedroom North Ryde home in which baby faced killer Sef Gonzales murdered his parents and sister in 2001
It had initially been listed with $850,000 hopes
It was sold in 65 days during a second campaign
after it failed to sell after 39 days on the market via its initial campaign earlier in 2005

A state-wide transport and logistics business has acquired the 15 Hodgson Way property for $5.7 million from a private investor
the owner was also offering a possible subdivision of two lots
A lease is also in place for the warehouse until 21 February 2024
bringing an income of $175,048 per annum plus GST and outgoings
Located in Perth’s eastern suburb of Kewdale
the 9,051 square metre site includes a 725 square metre building
and was noted as ‘underdeveloped’
The transport and logistics business is planning to move from its current Welshpool location
The deal was negotiated by Knight Frank‘s Tom Iredell
“The WA industrial market is experiencing sustained levels of historically high tenant demand coupled with limited leasing opportunities leading to growing rents
which is in turn pushing tenants to owner occupation and placing upward pressure on land values,” said Iredell
Iredell said the purchase price equates to a strong rate of $629 per square metre on land value
“This property had the added bonus of being underdeveloped
giving the buyer the opportunity to further develop the site and add value.”
The warehouse is also located in an excellent position
with frontage and exposure to Abernethy Road
and close proximity to Leach and Tonkin Highways
“Perth’s eastern logistics corridor remains the most tightly-held industrial precinct in Western Australia due to its unrivalled major transport route connectivity and proximity to the Perth Airport
Kewdale Freight Terminal and Perth CBD.”
The property was listed for sale by Burgess Rawson.
A medical centre located at 9 Brown Avenue in Naval Base will hit the market this week.
The property is leased to an ASX-listed tenant, Sonic HealthPlus, and consists of a building with 615 square metres of net lettable area on 2,585 square metres of land.
The centre is being sold by Ross Smith Nominees P/L via an Offers to Purchase campaign run by Cory Dell’Olio and Tony Delich of Knight Frank.
The fully-leased property is expected to sell for a price in line with a circa 6% yield, with the passing net rent from the asset being $241,232 per annum.
Dell’Olio said the current lease is in place until 2027, with a further five-year option remaining.
“Medical assets remain one of the most tightly held sectors of the WA market and there is very little opportunity to secure quality medical centres with such strong covenants,” said Dell’Olio.
“We are expecting a strong response to the property hitting the market.”
Delich added that “Businesses such as Alcoa, CSBP, Fremantle Ports, BGC, BP Kwinana Terminal and many others neighbour the centre, providing a huge client base for the medical centre’s ‘Occupational Health Services’, being one of its main sources of income.”
“Services such as drug and alcohol tests, employment medicals, specialised medicals, physiotherapy, injury rehabilitation and much more give the centre a strong patient base, along with the fact that it is the only medical centre within Western Australis’s major industrial precinct of Naval Base and Kwinana.”
The campaign closes on Thursday, 27 July, unless sold prior.

The bus was knocked over after colliding with a fast-moving sedan at the intersection in Kewdale. (Supplied: Night News)
Link copiedShareShare articleA teenager is dead after the car he was in smashed into an airport shuttle bus, which is believed to have occurred after a police pursuit through Perth on Saturday night.
Shortly after 10:00pm a silver sedan crashed into a bus, which is believed to have just dropped off passengers to the Perth Airport, at the intersection of Abernethy Road and Kewdale Road in Kewdale.
The bus was knocked onto its side from the impact.
A 16-year-old passenger of the sedan was killed in the crash.
The 19-year-old sedan driver was injured, as was the 46-year-old driver of the bus. Both were taken to Royal Perth Hospital, where they remained on Sunday morning in a stable condition.
Police are investigating whether the silver sedan was involved in a police pursuit earlier in the night, in the Belmont area.
Internal Affairs and the Major Crash squad will investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash, a statement from WA Police said.
Donnybrook grocery manager Daniel Wiseman, 41, said he felt "sick in the guts" after driving past the crash scene.
"It was just horrible, it just made me feel sick."
Mr Wiseman said the car was at least 60 to 70 metres away from the bus.
He said he was relieved to find out the bus did not have any passengers on board at the time of the crash.
"It was unrecognisable, I spoke to one of my family members this morning and I said I couldn't even tell you what make it was ... it was just a wreck, a crumpled wreck.
"You feel sick in the stomach knowing that someone's probably died there, I mean that's a road that we use a fair bit.
Major crash investigators have asked any witnesses who may have seen either the silver sedan or the shuttle bus on Abernethy Road or Kewdale Road prior to the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Police are investigating if the sedan was involved in an earlier police chase. (ABC News: Tom Wildie)
Freight forwarder specialist Toll Intermodal, part of Toll Group, has opened a new facility in Kewdale located in Perth’s southeast.
According to Paul Ebsworth, Director of Toll Domestic Forwarding Division, the 55,000 square metre site will strengthen operations throughout the country.
“This high-tech, $47 million facility is one of the most advanced of its kind in Australia, and is a key part of the Toll Intermodal network,” he said.
“Toll Intermodal’s Kewdale site is part of comprehensive, national intermodal service offering for our customers from Cairns to Perth.”
To bolster the sites services, Toll also worked with Pacific National Rail, division of transport infrastructure expert Asciano, located next to the Toll site to implement a ‘Cargo Link’ concept, which directly transfers freight between sites without using the road.
According to Ebsworth, the direct interface between the two sites reduces container handling times and enables the faster and more efficient delivery of freight.
“Now that we can access each other’s sites directly, containers can be transferred without needing to be loaded onto trucks and driven via road and unloaded again,” he said, highlighting that since the Kewdale facility started operations in late February, Toll was already seeing the benefits of Cargo Link.
“We have reduced truck journeys between sites by around 400 trips each week. We’re running a more efficient business that also provides a better service to our customers.”
Meanwhile Toll also announced the launched its new website this week, which consolidates more than 70 existing sites into one single website.
