a major player in this year’s MX2 championship After a positive start to the championship with a second at round one and a controversial round win that is currently under appeal at round two Kingsford was determined to nail down a round victory by logging two good motos and without the off-track drama Conditions were perfect with a well-presented track and temperatures in the low 20’s That was the backdrop as things got underway on Sunday and after qualifying in sixth place and admitting “I rode like an idiot,” Kingsford took to the start line of moto one fired up and ready to go He charged to the lead on exit of the first turn with championship rival Brodie Connolly hot on his wheels Connolly then turned up the heat and found a way past Kingsford on the opening lap less than two seconds separated the pair as they streaked away from the rest of the pack Lapped traffic then became part of the equation as they navigated their way through the rear of the field Connolly managed to piece together a solid lap and finish 1.7 seconds ahead of Kingsford but knew a challenge had been thrown his way the MX2 locked themselves into the start shoot and were ready to do it all again was in his shadow as the opening lap unfolded Connolly was just inside the top ten on the opening lap and desperate to move forward Kingsford got to work and started to move away from the pack and by the time Connolly found his way to second place the Monster Energy Yamalube Yamaha rider was already 18 seconds up the track With the race just passed the halfway mark and seemingly well under control but even more is eaten away as he gets back into his rhythm Connolly has narrowed it down to four seconds then some lapped traffic saw that gap get even tighter. But the pressure valve was released when Connolly made a mistake and collided with a lapped rider allowing Kingsford to race off for the win and round victory “I’m a bit dirty on myself for that crash in the middle of the race,” Kingsford said but I just had some rear brake on a bit late as I hit one of those braking bumps along that straight and it spat me over the bars I made that race harder than it needed to be “But pumped to get the win and keep fighting in the championship Even just riding well and being as competitive as I was gives me some confidence and the plan is to keep this momentum going now all the way until the end of the year,” Kingsford ends Jayce Cosford put together his best round of the year so far and continues his upward trend in riding and results Cosford charged to a fourth place for the round at Gillman with 6-3 results He again showed his sprint speed is improving this time qualifying in P4 and a renewed focus on putting a full day together with no mistakes Moto one saw Cosford in the midst of a fight for third in the early laps Cosford went into salvage mode as his arms tightened With a huge gap back to the rider in seventh Cosford backed down the intensity to allow his arms to relax and he held a strong sixth place all the way to the finish  Cosford held onto second place until lap seven when Connolly was able to force his way past saw off attacks from Byron Dennis and Noah Ferguson to cross the finish line in third marking his best race and round result of the season so far which was frustrating as I wanted to stay in the fight longer “I felt better in race two and was more relaxed on the bike so I tried to hook in behind him and let him tow me away from the rest of the field.  “I was able to keep my pace all the way to the end of the moto and finish it strong The next step is to get a round podium and keep moving closer to the front of the field.” Round four of the ProMX moves to Traralgon on May 25 It’s the first time the circuit has held a national round in many years and a huge turnout is expected for the series return The DPH Motosport Yamaha rider has had a breakout round in the unforgiving Brisbane conditions. at Appin after a post-race decision reversal handed him victory in a controversial second moto at round two of the 2024 ProMX Championship Kingsford and reigning MX2 champion Brodie Connolly continued their close rivalry throughout the day Connolly grabbed the early lead and stretched out a comfortable margin Kingsford had to charge forward from behind and despite clawing the gap down to three seconds late in the race Kingsford’s teammate Jayce Cosford got the jump out of the gate with Kingsford close behind officials deemed one of Connolly’s passes to be illegal and issued a two-position in-race penalty With Kingsford aware of the situation via his pit board he slotted in behind Connolly and followed him to the finish knowing second on the track could be enough for the win Initially, however, the penalty was overturned after the race, handing Connolly both the moto and the round. But the stewards reviewed the decision again post-race and on Monday morning confirmed the original penalty would stand, officially giving Kingsford the Moto Two and round win. “I don’t have any idea on what happened on the track and why there was even a penalty for Brodie,” Kingsford said. “I didn’t see what the issue was and only knew because my pit board said he had a penalty, but I do know that it’s not the way I want to win races. “But it’s a good reward for the team as everyone has worked super hard this year to make things better and we are on the right track. “I want to give my all in every race and at every round, and so far, we are off to a good start. The plan now is to keep it rolling.” Jayce Cosford didn’t finish where he wanted on paper, but the Appin round marked a step forward in multiple areas. Known for struggling in qualifying, Cosford delivered a personal best with third. He also avoided a first-moto crash for once and led early laps in the second before a run-in with Kingsford saw him go down. He recovered well for fifth in moto two and took eighth overall. “I’m not where I want or need to be, but things are headed in the right direction,” said Cosford. “My raw pace has picked up a little. I tried to stay out of the chaos in race one and then rode a pretty good race two. “I’m still looking for the best balance of speed, fitness and race craft, but I feel we have made some inroads so thanks to Beaton’s Pro Formula and the team for their guidance.” The MX2 battle will fire up again in two weeks’ time when the series heads to Gillman, South Australia. Once regarded as a necessary reliever airport for the Kingsford Smith (SYD) facility that is located fairly close to downtown and to handle mainly budget airlines when it opens in 2026 it is now being touted as potentially the busiest airport in the country by 2060 Full service and alliance member airlines are already demonstrating their interest in operating there But WSI still has a few hoops to jump through as the opening date nears including finalising the surface transport connections that have got caught up in a cost overrun for an entire Metro system Probably the biggest issue it has got to get to grips with is whether it is still only to be a reliever for SYD or whether it has the ability and the support to knock SYD airport off its perch And that raises the question of who will ultimately operate and finance it It would be unusual in Australia if that responsibility remained with the government Our Analysis Reports are only available to CAPA Members CAPA Membership provides voice comes over the intercom welcoming us through the electric gate it left CityMag under some serious driving pressure We follow the long winding track to the Homestead and accidentally miss two Kingsford staff waving for our attention As they chase us by foot up to the car park – huffing and puffing – they tell us they were supposed to valet park our car I guess we were too distracted by the $395,000 car behind and the other Mercedes and Porsche SUVs in the car park with my partner wearing a fluorescent Jimi Hendrix top (which he unwillingly changed shortly after) heeled boots and jewellery that glistens in the light It only took one quick conversation with Brendan Proctor to settle our out-of-place nerves and make us feel at home how this works is that you need to make guests have a second home how you guys doing?’ Then you’ve remembered something about them This culture is important to the Kingsford The Barossa brand you’ve got to feel like that’s a family because that resonates over to your guests,” Brandan says “It’s like you’re coming into a family home – but it’s a luxury family home but that’s what separates you because then they go away and they come back and they see that same stuff that’s why you want longstanding employees how you been?’ I think that’s the difference.” Brandan takes us on a tour of the entire Homestead relaying facts about the history of the different rooms – we stayed in the Matilda King suite – how McLeod’s Daughters was filmed here and how Kerry Packer himself once owned the place from 1999 to 2008 and left a spot for his helicopter to land when he visited “The homestead was built and well completed in 1856 but it was used as a working farm all the way up until Kerry Packer bought it in ’99,” Brendan says When the space was purchased by the Ahrens family in 2008 they rebranded and reopened as Kingsford Homestead and deemed themselves as a boutique luxury accommodation they extended the space and introduced the lodge new suits and wine vaults in a function room with the “longest table within a resort in Australia” “But the wine vault was built for space and events It’s unique…so the wine is a big thing so that’s understandable.” This 2020 renovation also introduced Kegelbahn – a nine-pin bowling alley that is a “throwback to the German history” they had dreams to farm and be successful [after spending] six months on a boat,” Brandan says “The problem is Kegel was outlawed in the UK The reason it was outlawed was it stemmed from the military “So military were finding these generals and soldiers [and they say] ‘we get addicted playing Kegel’ There are probably some discipline things going on “So they get together and go ‘what can we do about this If you ban something really fun and make it illegal people are definitely going to stop doing it Brendan then explains that when they came over to Australia they were in a free colony” and rebelliously began playing Kegal again served curated seasonal now available to guests thanks to Kingsford The Barossa’s recent two-year multi-million-dollar redevelopment The Valley View suites provide a refreshing heritage-laced rooms in the original homestead Upon entering this generously appointed cocoon of calm our eyes swam over the soothing palette of gentle coral pink hues blended with neutral tones such as nature-based birch The open-plan bedroom flowed into the lavish lounge suite and through the vast glass doors towards an ocean of undulating green hills.  Martin escorted us through the features of our suite within which everything functioned at the push of a button including the television that descended into a credenza allowing us a full view of the landscape from our king-size bed.   As impressive as the TV was it never re-appeared thanks to the ever-changing scenery before us Willy-Wag-Tails darted about our ankles while Cockatiels swirled and squawked above and wild Hares scurried between the bushes A herd of placid cows grazed upon the distant hills as Mother Nature captivated us with her performance of winter moods in the skies above a man who cannot be defined by function and seemed to be in all the places simultaneously tending to gardens and guests alike with boundless energy and a huge sense of fun Trundling us into his “mule,” an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) he took us on a tour of the 225-acre property sharing the fascinating history of the homestead and the local Indigenous people’s custodianship of the land along the way one space that resonated with me was the old shearing shed While one half has been beautifully restored for lovers of divinely character-infused events original state for lovers of Australia’s unique sheep shearing history rickety gates and the oil from the sheep wool still gracing the walls I was immediately transported into Australian Impressionist Tom Roberts’ “Shearing the Rams” Once the location of Nine Network’s award-winning drama series McLeod’s Daughters Kingsford The Barossa has seen many fans worldwide make the pilgrimage to pay tribute to the characters and tales they once loved so much after hearing so much about the memories and moments Brenno has shared with McLeod’s Daughters fans it’s now on my list of shows to binge we returned to the homestead and ducked into The Vault where a supreme collection of wine is stored and wine tastings are held before heading to the in-house bowling alley to enjoy a fun and fast game of Berlin’s beloved Kegelbahnen (9 pin bowling) while sipping on a zesty Watermelon Margarita.  With ample time for relaxation and solitude incorporated into our itinerary we kicked back in our suite while awaiting our much-anticipated “History of Kingsford” 7-course degustation in Orleana Restaurant a culinary haven for fine-dining foodies who view seasonal local produce as integral to their experience and appreciation of a destination This themed indulgence is Head Chef Joel Cugley’s celebration of Kingsford The Barossa’s delicious history particularly from the Barossa and the produce garden we’d only just explored on the property Maître d’ and Sommelier David D’Cruze’s deep love and knowledge of wine guided us through each course His tips and insights expanded our appreciation of each superb dish beyond measure.  David’s food and wine matching expertise doesn’t anchor you to a menu or a label and imbues you with a knowledge that forever shifts your appreciation of wine with his creative flair expressive manner and sincere devotion to his craft It is fair to say that every Kingford The Barossa team member we met during our stay made us feel as if we were the only guests they were looking after.  They were genuinely invested in our enjoyment and interested in what would bring us comfort and joy in that moment.  the sooner we realised we were surrounded by an elite hospitality team with a collective portfolio of working in hospitality benchmark-setters such as The Ritz (London) With our final bite of a deconstructed Trevaillie Orchard Apple crumble happy and devoted to diving into our private Wrapped up in our Kingsford The Barossa dressing gowns we tip-toed into the frosty night and slid into the soul-soothing warm water.   With the Milky Way as our ceiling and a symphony of bleating sheep as our soundtrack we soaked up every blissful moment of this extraordinary experience.  we awoke feeling rested and eager to head back into Orleana Restaurant for a hearty breakfast to prepare us for another day of hedonistic torpor commencing with a moment I’ll never forget exclusive-access-only location in the bush I soaked in a vintage clawfoot bath surrounded by bushland and Louis Roederer Collection 245 Champagne kept me chilled as birds tweeted greetings from the canopy From the bath to the billabong: Once dry and clothed Joel accompanied us to an extravagant picnic alongside a billabong and a bottle of Kaesler Barbera Vintage 201 awaited us Joel guided us through his lavish charcuterie of cheeses and other delicacies before leaving us to prepare lunch for his Orleana Restaurant guests (some of whom arrived in a chartered helicopter – we raised a glass of “cheers” to them as they hovered nearby).  Just when we thought the moment couldn’t be more perfect Brenno stepped forward and recited a breathtaking heartfelt rendition of “My Country” (the full version) while the smoke from the eucalyptus leaves and Redwood gum in the pit encircled him:“I love a sunburnt country He then left us with a walkie-talkie and instructions to relax and take all the time we wanted He’d be there to pick us up whenever we desired nibbling and chatting.  Given we were camped by a billabong it goes without saying that “Waltzing Maltilda” was sung with wine-laced confidence we returned to our suite and prepared for another night of culinary splendour with a sensational A La Carte meal of Wagyu and Barramundi partnered with Kingfish Sashimi and Scotch Eggs as sides and Silken Chocolate Mousse for dessert dreaming the dreams of the people with not a care in the world.   Utter bliss.  We will be back Now it’s time to spoil yourself with The building features a range of amenities, including study areas, a rooftop terrace, and communal spaces that encourage social interaction and a sense of community. Future buildings in the precinct will continue to build on this foundation, with a focus on creating spaces that are not only functional but also welcoming and inclusive. Scape, Australia’s largest owner and operator of purpose-built-student-accommodation (PBSA), has launched the first of five buildings, collectively called KEKI, as the first step in its ambition to create ongoing sustainable value to Sydney’s first University precinct, stretching from Kensington to Kingsford in Sydney’s south. Located at 9 Bunnerong Road, Scape Kingsford is part of a broader vision to transform the Kensington to Kingsford corridor in a new development that seeks to enrich the Kingsford to Kensington area, fostering a strong sense of community among students and residents alike. This project, with a total investment of approximately $1 billion, reflects Scape’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with the local community to create places and spaces that benefit everyone. When complete, the precinct will provide homes for over 1,600 students across five buildings, all within walking distance to UNSW and NIDA. While student accommodation will be a centrepiece of the precinct, Scape’s overall vision is to contribute to the neighbourhood’s vibrancy by integrating public art, expanding green spaces, and supporting local businesses with 3,900 square meters of retail and commercial leasing opportunities. Architecture & Design had a chat with Jacob Laird, Senior Associate at PTW to discuss this memorable project. pairing of the Grange with a meat pie (unlike any other meat pie you’ll ever taste) a homage to Max Schubert’s love of this classic Australian meal Wine lovers worldwide have a lot to be thankful to Max for beyond the Grange He was also the mastermind behind Penfolds’ Bin wines It was while Max was perfecting his first experimental Grange in 1951 that he generated the generic storage identification ‘Bin 1’ This efficient storage system soon became a distinctive Penfold’s labelling tradition when Max created a Shiraz using grapes from their Barossa Valley Kalimna vineyard double-dipping on its Bin 28 storage name by using it as its label name thus making it the inaugural wine marketed under the Bin category Fast-forward 12 years and leapfrog over a few hundred bins to reach Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon This sublime Cabernet Sauvignon has entered its 60th year as the first commercial release of a single Cabernet-based wine it has consistently set the benchmark for Australian Cabernet Sauvignon while also showcasing Penfolds’ House Style of multi-vineyard richly flavoured fruit-sourced wines that retain their full-bodied consummate Cabernet qualities and reliably impressive cellaring potential With Penfold’s Grange dominating industry headlines for well over 70 years their 180th birthday is a reminder of the enormous success they’d garnered over 100 years before Penfolds’ former Chief winemaker Max Schubert AM’s bold attempt to realise his goal of creating the Grange a wine that could be cellared for at least twenty years and still be considered a superlative sip upon its first gasp of oxygen.  It was in 1844 that established winemakers Dr Christopher and Mary Penfold sailed into South Australia with their four-year-old daughter Georgina and sufficient grapevine cuttings of French grenache to establish a vineyard on their 500-acre property in the district of Magill along with the required buildings and crops to establish a livelihood this entrepreneurial couple set about making a living Dr Chris pursued his medical ambitions while Mary and her assistants planted the Grenache cuttings developing their range over the years with other acclimatised varieties grown within and for the local soils and climate Mary developed Penfolds’ vineyards to the point where she was exporting wines and winning international prizes while remaining at the forefront of winemaking innovation She ensured the quality and longevity of the wines and Penfolds’ winery through her diligent succession planning which has resulted in an ongoing custodianship steeped in loyalty and pride This legacy continues with today’s winemaking team which has over 200 years of experience as Penfolds winemakers between them Headed up by Chief Winemaker Peter Gago AC since 2002 they’ve kept the spirit of blending tradition with innovation alive honouring the past while remaining at the Vanguard of the Australian wine industry While you can step into magnificently This year alone, we’ve already seen both Bestech, Kansept and even Best Made capitalize on this idea Tim Kingsford often played with sword-shaped sticks But it wasn’t medieval knights and dragons that filled his imagination and piqued his creativity; it was Japanese samurai — especially those portrayed in anime the exaggerated flow of cartoon samurai swords deeply inspired the look of the KwaiKing — hence its curved blade and handle the knife is modeled after the kwaiken (or kaiken) a small knife often carried by Samurai and women alike in feudal Japan While the styling is undeniably steeped in historical samurai influence another important tenet of classic Japanese design and philosophy also inspired the knife’s construction The knife’s titanium handle scales’ styling is highly minimalist angular facets that keep the look clean while adding a bit of grip While it does have hardware at the pivot and tail its only other blemish — if you can even call it that — is the knife’s button lock reliable compression lock — similar to the one once patented by Spyderco It’s one of the most robust mechanisms in EDC The handle flows beautifully into the knife’s 3.54-inch M390 super steel blade it has a gentle curve that offers a long cutting belly with tons of utility which helps maintain the knife’s minimalist styling while when paired with its ceramic ball-bearing pivot the slender knife measures 8.07 inches and weighs 3.7 ounces making it an excellent everyday carry option The entry price to back the project (and get a knife in the process) is $308 AUD (about $196 USD) You can also get the complete trio for $866 AUD ($550 USD) After placing in all of his first four starts of the season Waikato Stud’s sensational sprinter I Wish I Win returned to the top of the again through the final 200m with I Wish I Win edging ahead this time to beat a gallant Bella Nipotina by a neck I Wish I Win is trained by his part-owner Peter Moody along with Katherine Coleman who joined him in a training partnership at the beginning of this season The Kingsford-Smith Cup was Coleman’s third Group One victory “I haven’t been on course for the other Group One wins so this is thrilled for Luke as well – he worked very hard to get back on this horse “Everything has been super with this horse since the Doomben 10,000 Huge credit to the team that’s been up here in Brisbane looking after him The horses have been staying at Desleigh Forster’s stable and she’s been a big help as well.” The Kingsford-Smith Cup is likely to bring the curtain down on I Wish I Win’s season “I’d say he’d have a little break now and then we’ll prep him for the spring,” Coleman said “Another shot at The Everest is the plan.” Nolen was delighted to regain the mount on I Wish I Win who he has ridden to four wins and four placings from nine previous mounts He missed the ride in this year’s TJ Smith Stakes due to injury and was replaced by James McDonald who then retained the mount for
