Two of three major contracts have been awarded for the $5.75 billion Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project
Jointly funded by the Federal and Queensland governments
the project is crucial to increasing train services and catering for a booming population on the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines
The Martinus Degnan Joint Venture (Martinus Degnan) has won the contract to deliver the Loganlea Station Relocation project
This will see a brand-new Loganlea Station built at a new location directly opposite Logan Hospital and close to Loganlea TAFE and Loganlea State High School
The $173.76 million Loganlea Station Relocation project – jointly funded by the Federal and Queensland governments – will better connect customers with nearby health
The upgraded station has been designed to cater for more passengers and will include improved access to the station with ramps
stairs and lifts from Valencia Street and Armstrong Road
There will also be new pedestrian and active transport connections to local facilities and across the rail line
and a secure storage cage for bicycle and scooter parking
The Queensland Government is continuing to investigate options to improve connections to Loganlea Station
retaining some parking spaces from the existing park‘n’ride
and working with Logan City Council to identify other land opportunities for development
Construction on the new Loganlea Station is expected to start later this year
The current Loganlea station will remain open until the new station is completed
Bielby Hull Joint Venture (Bielby Hull) has been awarded the design and construction contract to deliver the Open Level Crossing Removal at Beenleigh Road
This is the first of five level crossings that will be removed between Kuraby and Beenleigh as part of the wider Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project
the Queensland Government sought public feedback on the initial design for the open level crossing removals
The response showed there is clear support for level crossing removals
which will improve safety and ease traffic congestion
and local road connections was also a priority for the community
the Queensland Government asked proponents to innovate and consider options to incorporate this feedback and deliver the best value for money
The proposed solution at Kuraby will build on the previous refined design to provide a new road over rail bridge and improve local walkability and access across the rail corridor
The Queensland Government will work with Bielby Hull over the next three to six months to further develop the design solution at Bethania
ensuring local access and connections are maintained
and minimising impacts to important local community facilities
The Queensland Government will consult with the community again on the updated designs for the open level crossing removals
Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King
“The Australian Government is proud to be partnering with the Queensland Government to deliver this important upgrade for train users and the Logan community
“The Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail will double the capacity of the Gold Coast rail line and reduce waiting times at stations between Brisbane
“This project will deliver long-lasting benefits for the City of Logan and this contract award is another step toward its completion.”
Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister
“Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail is vital to increasing train services between Beenleigh and the Gold Coast
the network will struggle to cater for a fast-growing population and the capacity to move spectators during the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games
“Awarding these two contracts means work can begin on this critical transport project.”

Project flythrough
The Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail (LGC) Project is taking a major step forward with major contractors shortlisted for three individual packages of work:
the major contractors will put forward their proposals for the individual project packages
The successful companies to deliver the works will be announced later this year
The announcement follows a year of significant progress including refining the reference design
extensive survey and geotechnical investigation works and community engagement
The Government is also working towards important final environmental approvals from the Federal Government
Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail will remove five level crossings
improving journey times and safety for road and rail users
This includes building three road-over-rail overpasses and removing two level crossings
while upgrading intersections and improving the local road network
The project will also deliver modern and accessible stations between Kuraby and Beenleigh
which will provide improved access to the train network for all Logan residents
the 20km section of rail line between Kuraby and Beenleigh (the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project corridor) is the next critical bottleneck to unlock
to provide capacity for more frequent rail services in the future
Increasing the number of tracks from two to four and allowing the free movement of both all-stops and express trains will mean more of our fastest services can run more frequently and more reliably.
This will allow public transport users to arrive at modern and accessible stations and spend less time waiting on the platform for a service to arrive
which means easier connections to the rest of South East Queensland through the existing rail network as well as the new services to be delivered through Cross River Rail and the Direct Sunshine Coast Line
The LGC Rail package will deliver the major rail works between Kuraby and Beenleigh including duplicating the tracks from two to four
local road works and active transport connections
The design and construction of this complex brownfield project will be delivered through an alliance contract
The Loganlea Station project will relocate and upgrade Loganlea train station to better connect customers with nearby health
and community services – particularly Logan Hospital.
The Loganlea Station Project is costed at $173.8 million
The broader Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project is jointly-funded by the Queensland and Australian governments with a 50-50 commitment towards the project cost of $5.75 billion
Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail is one of several large investments in the rail network well underway along with Cross River Rail
the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade (B2N)
the European Train Control System (ETCS) and the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP)
which will build 65 new fully-accessible trains at Torbanlea
to run on the South East Queensland train network.
These projects will play an important role during the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games while delivering improvements for everyday Queenslanders by providing more frequent and reliable services around South East Queensland
Quotes attributable to Minister for Transport
Main Roads and Digital Services Bart Mellish:
“Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail is a critical project that will allow more of our fastest trains to run more often.
“Shortlisting proponents to deliver these works is an important and exciting step towards a major upgrade on our South East Queensland rail network
all of these projects will help to connect our growing communities with more frequent and reliable train services between Brisbane
“The additional tracks will also mean more services can run
modern and accessible train stations and spend less time waiting on the platform for a train to arrive.”
Minister for Trade and Investment and State Member for Woodridge Cameron Dick:
“It is good to see this project is proceeding
“David Crisafulli will cut this project to direct funds towards his unfunded Sunshine Coast rail line to Maroochydore
“I will always fight to stop LNP cuts and ensure our community gets its proper share of infrastructure funding.”
Minister for Health and Ambulance Services and Member for Waterford:
“Our growing community need more train services
station upgrades and active transport connections
and that’s exactly what our government is delivering
“The Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project means less time commuting and more time with family
“I’m thrilled we’ve now reached this significant milestone and look forward to seeing what those who’ve been shortlisted come up with for this game changing project.”
“The Miles Government has a great track record delivering public transport projects for the people of South East Queensland that reduce the amount of time spent commuting
“This is great news for my community and I welcome today’s announcement that will see successful contractors confirmed by the end of the year.”
“The Miles Government’s rail revolution is well underway in South East Queensland and the people of Stretton will benefit from more frequent trains and less time spent commuting
this is a great project that will make a big difference to my community.”
“I’m thrilled that this vital upgrade is progressing
My community and I are pleased as we are one step closer to removing the Kuraby level crossing.”

Seventeen bus stops will be added to Logan’s public transport network as part of the first stage of a $70 million regional revamp
In June the Queensland government announced new and improved bus services for the city
including more services for some of Logan’s fastest growing suburbs – Logan Reserve
Bahrs Scrub and Park Ridge – and the first ever service for Berrinba
Now the government has confirmed these new services will be rolling out in two stages
with the first starting in December this year
The first stage will feature the construction of 17 bus stops
which are said to improve access to public transport for around 47,000 locals
Stage two upgrades will roll out from early 2026 and are expected to impact around 25,500 locals
The current proposal for stage two would see:

Two people remain on the run after crashing a stolen car into the back of a truck
which then erupted in flames and closed the Logan Motorway
Emergency services were called to the motorway near Kingston Road at around 8.15pm on Tuesday 22 October
“Initial investigations indicate an Audi S5 collided with the back of the truck,” police said in a statement
“The truck continued to travel a few hundred metres before the truck ignited and became fully engulfed
“The two occupants of the Audi then left the scene in an unknown direction.”
was taken to Logan Hospital with minor injuries in a stable condition
according to the Queensland Ambulance Service
The truck was reportedly carrying pesticides and lithium-ion batteries
Potentially hazardous smoke from the truck prompted police to establish an exclusion zone
which stretched from Kingston to Loganlea until the following morning
“Diversions are in place eastbound on the Logan Motorway and westbound lanes are now open,” police said at the time
“Motorists and members of the public are advised to avoid the area
and those within the exclusion zone are asked to remain indoors and close their windows until further notice.”
Police have so far tracked the theft of the Audi to two other crashes on Monday
the two occupants of the Audi were travelling in a Ford Fiesta earlier in the day before it crashed into a white Mazda 3 at Eastern Heights
and subsequently crashed into the Audi A3 at Durack
Adam Cordner said the truck driver was lucky he wasn’t more severely injured
“The blaze was significant and quite intense… so it’s very fortunate that the truck driver wasn’t injured,” he said
“And also very fortunate that we have had no reports of other injuries.”
Mr Cordner said he was “hopeful” for arrests in relation to the incident
A young father left fighting for life after an alleged hit-and-run has woken from a month-long coma and spoken about his miraculous survival for the first time
Connor McLeod, 25, was walking to a friend's house in Loganlea south of Brisbane on February 18 when he was hit by an allegedly unregistered trail bike
allegedly glanced back at Mr McLeod lying in the middle of the road before fleeing the scene
Unuia presented himself to police two days later
Mr McLeod spent six weeks in hospital and says he's lucky to be alive following the life-changing crash, Nine News reported
Confronting footage showed Mr McLeod walking across a pedestrian crossing at an intersection before a trail bike smashed into him
Passers-by were seen rushing to help the young father lying in the middle of the road
Mr McLeod spent four weeks in an induced coma following the alleged hit and run and was finally discharged from hospital last Friday
The long list of injuries included two collapsed lungs
a compound arm fracture and a fractured skull
'I was told by the doctors if I didn't go into foetal position like I did I would be paralysed,' he said
His fiancee Anneliese and young daughter Aliyah were what pulled him through
Unuia was charged with six offences including dangerous operation of vehicle causing grievous bodily harm and failing to remain at incident and render assistance
He didn't appear in person when his case was heard for the first time at Beenleigh Local Court on Tuesday

are being asked to give input on the relocation of Loganlea Station
The new station will be located closer to health and education precincts while also allowing for capacity increases on the Gold Coast and Beenleigh lines to meet future demand
The new station will enable better public transport access to Logan Hospital
Connections to bus services and active transport links are also part of the upgrade
The station will be redesigned and carparking at the station is also part of the improvements
The proposed location of the new station is to the east of Loganlea Road
This would place the station adjacent to Loganlea State high School and opposite TAFE Loganlea
Cities and Urban Infrastructure Alan Tudge said the new station is part of wider plans to improve rail connects through South East Queensland
“The road and rail transport corridor between Brisbane and the Gold Coast is one of Australia’s busiest inter-city commuter corridors,” he said
“This project will lead to longer-term planning improvements on the Gold Coast and Beenleigh rail lines and it’s so important we get feedback from local people so we can deliver them the best result.”
Queensland Minister for Transport Mark Bailey said the success of the project depended on community input
“Relocating the station east will improve that all-important access to the hospital
and in the long term set up future upgrades on the Gold Coast and Beenleigh rail lines,” he said
“But it’s vital we work with the families and workers who use it every day to get it right.”

Loganlea TAFE and the adjacent Logan Hospital are improving the co-ordination of their teaching resources
The waiting list for vet and animal science courses at Loganlea is “enormous”
TAFE Queensland’s chief executive Mary Campbell said
“This development here will be really state of the art,” she said
The new veterinary equipment will include an imaging suite for animal x-rays
endoscopy and ultrasound equipment and hydro-baths
The new nursing facilities include a mini hospital ward with 16 beds where students can treat simulated strokes and cardiac arrests as well as treating simulated bleeds and taking observations
Ms Fentiman said the overall plan at Loganlea TAFE was to give students “state of the art training facilities” to build successful careers
She argued jobs of the future would rely on more technical skills
“I think the jobs that will be in demand in the next decade will require a VET education
“So I think we should be making VET training more affordable.”

Ms Fentiman said loans were not offered for as wide a range of courses and for some loans there was a significant gap for students to pay
“Since doubling the subsidy in December to make it $4000 cheaper to study a Diploma of Nursing the Loganlea campus has seen a 16 per cent increase in enrolments,” she said
The Coalition government promised to provide an additional 80,000 apprenticeships in the April budget and a National Careers Institute at a cost of $342.4 million to improve the vocational education sector
