Today, Main Beach continues to embrace contemporary influences with carefully planned multi-residential developments seeking infill sites to increase density while preserving the area’s local character and charm." Bureau Proberts further noted that 15 Cunningham Avenue aims to introduce something fresh to Main Beach’s well-established coastal density "The building’s glass envelope reflects Queensland’s vernacular, offering transparency where maximum exposure is needed, and shelter where refuge is desired. In doing so, it embodies the ‘evolving’ Gold Coast—acknowledging its place and neighborhood context while still establishing a distinctive presence within the skyline of this iconic location." The tower will sit next door to The Monaco which sold out during the pandemic with an average sale price of $4.6 million There have been resales in the building since its 2024 completion north of $8 million GDI will no doubt be looking to handle the build themselves, having brought construction inhouse for Drift Residences after the collapse of GCB Constructions At the time Gallagher said GDI had assembled a top-tier line-up with a proven track record in the industry to deliver the rest of the building "It's a formidable team," Gallagher says Drift Residences, nearing completion, will comprise 46 apartments across 31 levels at 16-18 Hughes Avenue, Main Beach. GDI just set a record at Drift, selling a full-floor apartment for $11,995,000, a record for a non-penthouse sale in Main Beach. Queensland Police have finally revealed the bizarre mystery behind a "torpedo" which washed up on the on the sand of a popular beach in the early hours of Thursday morning. Queensland Police have revealed a "suspicious device" which washed up on to a popular beach is a practice army torpedo that went missing for months after a drill. Officers were made aware of the object, spotted on the sand of Main Beach at The Spit on the Gold Coast, at about 5:45am on Thursday. A 100m exclusion zone was subsequently set up while the police and the Australian Defence Force examined the object. "Please be aware Main Beach and most of Southport spit will be an exclusion zone while authorities investigate and make the item safe," Surf Life Saving Queensland said. After hours of investigation, police confirmed the device was an inert practice torpedo that had been used in a recent army drill off the Queensland coast. Acting Inspector Leon Wort confirmed the device was not live and did not pose any threats to the public. He added the practise torpedo had been boxed and will be returned to the appropriate depot. “It’s been recovered and we’ve got no further concerns for public safety,” he said. “The ADF will… work out what went wrong and why they couldn’t recover it.” A torpedo has washed ashore, prompting Queensland police to lock down a section of Main Beach. Police were made aware of a suspicious object spotted on the sand of Main Beach at The Spit on the Gold Coast at about 5:45am on Thursday. A 100-meter exclusion zone has been set up around the area, with police and emergency services personnel on the scene. Authorities are still working to determine whether the torpedo is live or not. Ocean Grove residents and visitors will soon have even more accessibility options when they visit the town’s main beach. The Victorian government and Barwon Coast Committee of Management announced last week the tender for a new Changing Places facility at Ocean Grove Main Beach has been awarded to Three T Constructions. The project, which is expected to be completed by the midpoint of the year, will provide larger than standard accessible toilets with features such as a tracking hoist and accessible bathroom with room for two or more carers. The facility is being funded by a $220,000 contribution from Barwon Coast and a state government Changing Places funding grant of $180,000. Barwon Coast general manager of operations Paul Gangell said the new facility was a “really important development providing accessible options for high needs individuals”. “This will be the only facility along this section of the coastline that will meet the important needs of these community members,” Mr Gangell said. “So it’s a really important project for us, and probably something we’d like to see happen again elsewhere.” Barwon Coast has been the driver of the project since its inception, applying for and receiving the government grant in 2022. Mr Gangell said projects like this took time, but the Changing Places facility had encountered “challenges” in the post-COVID environment. “We’ve refined the project over that time… and we’re really comfortable now that we’ve got a great, affordable Changing Places facility,” he said. “There has actually been some benefit to delaying the project over the last year to ensure we’ve got a really good design and the right budget to deliver it.” He said the community was keen to see the project completed. “Construction works kick off late February and we’d say the project will be operational by mid this year… we’re looking forward to the community getting access as soon as possible,” Mr Gangell said. “Next month we have our annual Disabled Surfers event at Ocean Grove Main Beach, and they’re just one example of the community needing a facility like this they can access. “It’s one of the few beaches around that has a sealed ramp and a number of options on how people can get down to the beach. “We’re looking at providing wheelchair access, having a beach wheelchair station down there. So these are the things we’re looking at for the coming season.” AAPAAP Western Bulldogs captain Marcus Bontempelli has hit back at Bailey Smith after the Geelong star fired an unprompted shot at his old club ahead… © 2025 Star News Group Pty Ltd. contracts with Hong Kong billionaire developer and racing industry identity Tony Fung Property records show a Hunters Hill-based entity settled the $30 million acquisition in May The triangular-shaped holding at 3464-3468 Main Beach Parade is occupied by an existing 10-storey apartment buildiung known as Pacific Point and a three-level duplex 48-storey hotel with 580 rooms greenlit the following in late 2021 Not a sod has been turned in the intervening three-year period But with Camilleri’s purchase of the Main Beach site redevelopment plans have regained pace during the past six months—the four-storey podium and three basement levels being a little more elongated (north to south) while being narrower in width (east to west)” Its design features a 55m-long facade oriented toward the terminate the contract on the remainder of units for sale in a new apartment project on the Gold Coast Jon Drew of Drew Group has taken the step to give buyers in his $415m ‘Lagoon’ project in Main Beach peace of mind amid growing concerns over contracts being cancelled and prices being hiked for off-the-plan units due to building cost blowouts and delays Rising construction materials and financing costs have made many privately funded housing projects in Queensland unfeasible and left buyers fearing they may end up with a dodgy product or a builder at imminent risk of collapse An artist’s impression of Drew Group’s ‘Lagoon’ residential development in Main Beach Of the 5600 new apartments under construction across the Gold Coast only about 2000 are expected to be completed this year The projects reportedly struggling to get off the ground include SPG Land’s The Paradiso Place which is to include 800 apartments in Surfers Paradise Mega sale for luxury Broadbeach apartment Ski after work recently stopped on the site Many had signed contracts for between $500,000 and $1.7m in 2021 developer Andrews Group invoked the sunset clause for some multimillion-dollar contracts in its newly completed ‘Dune’ project A statement on behalf of Andrews Projects said: “Anyone who did not wish to renew their acquisition had their deposit and interest refunded in full” Mr Drew said he was aware of the concerns among buyers in the market and wanted to do something to give them comfort in knowing it was safe to invest in his project and came to an agreement to abandon the sunset clauses on the remaining 10 per cent of apartments left to sell in the twin-tower development “The idea that cancelling contracts or asking for more money just because you can through a clause in a contract outrages me and goes against the commercial agreement we as developers reach with buyers — that is that just as they have an obligation to turn up and settle the purchase in a down market we have a moral obligation to deliver their unit (as contracted) in an appreciated market,” Mr Drew said An artist’s impression of Draycon’s ‘Boutique’ project in Chevron Island “I never thought I’d be put in a situation where my integrity was questioned before I’ve even delivered I’m going to try and do what I can to give buyers the confidence they deserve in the current market we find ourselves.” said she was hesitant to sign a contract before Mr Drew’s decision to scrap sunset clauses “There were so many risks that were keeping us from being able to take the leap of faith with a developer in this market,” Ms Gillespie said An artist’s impression of the living area in one of the penthouses in Lagoon by Drew Group in Main Beach “When Drew Group met those concerns with a price certainty undertaking in the contract that gave us the confidence to acquire one of the remaining units in the development and we therefore had trust in the builder and developer and their ability to deliver the project.” Hickey Lawyers partner Dan Marino said buyer confidence in off-the-plan purchases had “been shaken” by recent industry challenges including some well publicised builder insolvencies and developer unilateral contract terminations “In the envious position of reaching a 90 per cent sold milestone Drew Group’s decision to implement contractual steps to provide price certainty to the balance of purchasers in its’ Lagoon development backed by its long-standing partnership with Hutchinson Builders has provided significant comfort to buyers,” he said a twin-tower project planned for Main Beach’s Cronin Ave by Drew Group it is legal for pre-sales contracts to be terminated by the developer if a project has not been completed by the ‘sunset’ clause date Recent Queensland government changes to sunset clause laws only affect land purchases Mr Drew said he hoped his approach could possibly influence financiers and developers of future projects “I think there will need to be changes Mr Walsh said only the design work was funded, with any construction work still a long way off and subject to extensive stakeholder and community engagement. “The replacement isn’t currently part of council’s funded capital program, but having a design ready to go means we can make cost projections and grant funding applications to help fund any future replacement,” he said. The design project is jointly funded by Noosa Council and the Australian Government’s Disaster Ready Fund, which aims to increase the resilience and preparedness of communities while reducing the risk of harm caused by disasters. Edward Morris can now walk his daughters down the aisle thanks to the lifeguards and paramedics who brought him back to life on the sand at Noosa Main Beach on 15 February, 2023. The South Australian farmer was 48-years-old when swimming with his family in Noosa, until his holiday turned into horror as he collapsed onto the sand and became unresponsive at around 4pm. Volunteers from Nippers began CPR, before the Noosa lifeguards took over compressions and began shocks from a defibrillator. Brooke Morris watched as her husband received 16 shocks from lifeguards and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics before being taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) in a critical condition. “When he collapsed, the nippers were the first that responded and they said to me on Tuesday that by the time they got to him, he was already changing colour,” Brooke said. “The other lifeguards came running down and because the tide was coming in, the lifeguards built a little barrier with the sand so that the water wouldn’t rush over Ed. They were amazing.” After everything they went through, Brooke said the most horrific part for her was the phone calls she had to make on the first night. “The worst part for me was having to ring my children and say ‘You need to fly up, the hospital is keeping Dad alive until you get here’.” Edward went on to spend a month in hospital at SCUH, where he had a long recovery process that included learning to walk again. “Ed’s a very strong man. He’s very determined,” Brooke said. “I think one of the things we’ve learnt as a family is to make more memories. “He would’ve been a memory, but he’s here to make memories, so however long we’ve got him for, we want to enjoy our time together. “If anyone can take anything from our experience, it would be to know what your partner wants as far as funeral arrangements and make sure your wills are in place. I had those in place, so I never had to worry if I was making the right decisions because I already knew what he wanted.” The couple returned to Noosa Main Beach on Tuesday 10 September for the first time since the incident to thank the first responders who helped save Edward’s life. “It was important for me to thank them for saving Ed’s life. I don’t think people in those roles get thanked and rewarded enough,” Brooke said. “We also wanted to make a new, happy memory of Noosa because my memory was a horrific one of Ed getting shocked on the beach.” Noosa lifeguard supervisor Rowan Simpson said the reunion was a wholesome experience for the lifeguards. “It’s very beautiful to be able to help, and then to also get really nice feedback from that person,” Rowan said. “It made us all tear up when he said he was now able to walk his daughter down the aisle. It set the tone for the rest of the meet and greet.” Rowan arrived on the beach about half way through the incident in 2023 to help with crowd control. “It was overcast and wasn’t a very nice day when it happened. We helped the QAS paramedics take the patient up into their van, and then went back to the tower and did a really good debrief. Having someone else’s life in your hands is always pretty intense,” he said. “The defibrillator is the difference between saving someone’s life so it’s vital that we have that in our emergency kits.” Rowan said there was a defibrillator on the lifeguard tower at Noosa Main Beach for public use. “It’s there for public use after-hours when the lifeguards aren’t available and the Noosa World Surfing Reserve put it in,” he said. 1) 0ms;transition:fill 200ms cubic-bezier(0.4 1) the report said Heran was given the green light for its Ovation tower in May last year following a drawn out line-in-the-sand legal stoush over the refusal of a redesign of the beachfront tower The controversial tower proposal earmarked for a 1261sq m site on the corner of Main Beach Parade and Woodroffe Avenue was knocked back twice during the three-year battle An approval to build a 20-storey tower on the site was initially granted in 2018 a year after the council rejected a 50-storey proposal with 143 apartments and a mixed-use podium reduced setbacks and number of apartments as well as revised external design—was submitted but refused by the council  An appeal by the developer to the Planning and Environment Court was dismissed in 2021 with the second design deemed non-compliant with the City Plan as it would “crowd” the surrounding area It then took the fight to the Supreme Court but the council’s decision to refuse approval again was upheld the developer went back to the "The scarcity of beachfront apartments on the Gold Coast, coupled with Dune's status as the only brand-new absolute beachfront boutique building on the northern coast with whole-floor residences and world-class amenities, speaks volumes about its unique offering,” Mr Kollosche explained. Gallery (5 images)The ultimate in beachfront luxuryPositioned on a prime stretch of beachfront, each apartment in Dune Main Beach stands out for its design and thoughtful approach to living spaces. Unlike many high-rise developments that cater to multiple residences per floor, Dune Main Beach offers an incredible apartment-per-floor, which is incredibly appealing for buyers in this segment. “The decision to offer entire floor apartments at Dune Main Beach was driven by our vision to create exclusive living experiences that maximise privacy and views,” says Sarah Andrews, Sales Manager at Andrews Projects. “Given the prime beachfront location, it made sense to design larger, full-floor residences that provide residents with expansive spaces and uninterrupted ocean vistas.” Residents have access to a range of top-tier amenities designed to elevate their lifestyles and create a feeling of five-star luxury at home. Residents can enjoy the cutting-edge fitness centre outfitted with premium Technogym equipment. Some of these include an infinity pool and sauna overlooking the ocean, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, along with hot and cold plunge pools. Residents also have access to exclusive communal spaces, including a landscaped garden terrace and a private beach club, designed to facilitate casual interactions and foster a sense of relaxed community. The interiors designed by Rothelowman Lawson Royes have been curated to reflect a seamless blend of elegance and functionality, providing solid foundations for residents to add their own personal style. One of the main design intentions was to also blend the building with its natural surrounds as much as possible, which was achieved through the residences’ neutral colour palettes and natural finishes which blend with the sandy dunes found at the building’s doorstep. On the Gold Coast beachfront, Dune Main Beach apartments features thoughtful design. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow natural light to flow through the room while capturing the jaw-dropping ocean views, and the open-plan living spaces connect to the exterior balconies and encourage indoor-outdoor living. High-quality finishes have also been integrated into the design to add the level of luxury afforded to a $8m+ home, including European appliances, travertine stone, and timber joinery. Dune features whole-floor apartments, floor-to-ceiling windows and open-plan living spaces. Dune Main Beach is located in one of the Gold Coast’s most prestigious suburbs, offering residents direct access to the beach while being close to some of the top streets in the area. Dune offers direct access to the beach while being close to some of the top streets on the Gold Coast. Residents are also minutes away from Marina Mirage and the Southport Yacht Club, which boast world-class boating, dining, and entertainment options. The Gold Coast continues to attract buyers from interstate and internationally, drawn by its mix of natural beauty, vibrant culture, and evolving urban landscape. According to Mr Kollosche, who is a key player in the local property market with over $8 billion in settled sales at the top end of the Gold Coast and a career spanning 26 years, the region is undergoing a transformation that makes it even more desirable. “The Gold Coast is renowned for its stunning beaches, vibrant lifestyle, and diverse cultural offerings,” he said. “It continues to evolve with exciting developments in infrastructure, dining, and entertainment, making it an increasingly attractive destination for both residents and visitors. The neighbourhood of Main Beach offers a mix of young couples, families, and retirees. This tight-knit community has just 4,000 permanent residents, according to the 2021 Census, and has high growth potential. With 70% of the properties sold to owner-occupiers, community is at the core of Lagoon. Buyers have been both local and interstate, reflecting the growing appeal of the Gold Coast lifestyle. “The market here has matured over the last five years, and it’s now an established city with long-term residents and strong employment, resulting in a steadily growing population,” said Mr. Drew. Mr. Drew added that construction constraints previously held apartment stock levels at bay, but projects such as Lagoon, which have implemented strong pre-sale strategies, have experienced significant price growth and an uptake in sales. “This sustained growth trajectory solidifies the Gold Coast’s position as one of the country’s best-performing markets in 2024 and beyond,” he concluded.
