The Bulls FC Academy confirmed they are a NPLW team on the rise with a 1-0 win Manly United on the weekend
Bulls have slowly come into their own as the season has progressed
The round nine clash against an unbeaten Manly United was a major test for them
and the Academy girls passed with flying colours
Manly have gelled perfectly so far this campaign and are showcasing plenty of resilience in defence to match the quality of their attacking prowess
In the first half the majority of the early forays at goal were produced by a determined Bulls team
who took it to their opposition early on with real gusto
This momentum would lead to the Bulls taking the lead in the 24th minute after Jasmine Meli intercepted a ball in midfield and strode forward to put her team into attack mode
leading to returning star Amber Luchtmeijer making an instant impact by holding off her defender in the box and setting up Petria Phillips for a ruthless finish that thundered into the back of the net
this match would continue in the same vein with Manly unable to secure an equaliser from this point on
ensuring they ultimately fell 1-0 to a confident Bulls outfit
Macarthur Rams continued their slide this season with a 1-0 loss to Illawarra Stingrays on the road
Last season’s championship winning Macarthur Rams have conceded the most goals in the competition so it’s no surprise they find themselves closer to the foot of the ladder than where they’re expected to be
The Stingrays were able to frustrate their opposition throughout the opening 45
and drew plenty of fouls to prove it as Macarthur gave away 11 in the first half
it was a poor giveaway in midfield that allowed the home team in for a well-executed goal half way through the second stanza
Layla Etherington received the ball out wide and delivered a low cross to the back post that was tapped in by Siobhan Edwards

Jamal Fogarty will be the man charged with taking Manly into life after Daly Cherry-Evans
after the Canberra half agreed to a three-year deal at the Sea Eagles
Fogarty told Raiders coach Ricky Stuart on Tuesday he would leave the NRL club at year's end
confirming he would not take up an option with Canberra for 2026
That has paved the way for Fogarty officially put pen to paper with the Sea Eagles
on a deal that AAP understands to be worth close to $2.1 million over three years
Fogarty's exit from Canberra comes after Stuart publicly called out his management last week
unhappy they would not meet to discuss a two-year offer
Canberra will now be left to bring Ethan Sanders into their halves next year
placing him alongside Ethan Strange in one of the NRL's youngest pairings
Cherry-Evans' 337 games as Manly's halfback are the most of any playmaker at any NRL club
making for the biggest transition in the game's history
He and Luke Brooks will partner in the halves for at least the next two seasons
with youngsters Joey Walsh and Onitoni Large viewed as future talents
The Sea Eagles had toyed with the idea of moving superstar fullback Tom Trbojevic to five-eighth if they did not land Fogarty
Trbojevic had said earlier this week he was open to a move to the No.6 jersey
but has previously indicated his preference to remain at No.1
His presence and impact at the back was felt in his return from injury against Penrith last week
where two tries came with him simply being a decoy
hamstring and other injuries have combined to restrict Trbojevic to only 67 of a possible 129 appearances for Manly since the beginning of the 2020 season
But the fullback does want to feature in State of Origin for NSW this year
and has two games left to stake his claim after Manly's Magic Round bye
Trbojevic did not play Origin in 2024 due to a hamstring tear
and suffered a season-ending pectoral tear while playing centre for NSW in 2023
Trbojevic has conceded playing for the Blues meant putting club footy second
but said he was not ready to turn his back on the representative arena
"It's a really hard one," he said this week
but then again you don't want that to take away from Manly
"(But) I don't think I'm willing to give that up just yet
Jamal Fogarty has helped steer Canberra to third position on the NRL ladder through the first eight rounds of this year's season Mark Nolan/Getty ImagesThe fullback revealed a two-word mantra helped him cope with his latest setback
a three-week knee lay-off from which he returned against the Panthers
sometimes," Trbojevic said of his injuries after Manly's 26-10 win
"The quicker you can realise that and move forward (the better)
"You can only really say that you want to be out there playing
"We're very lucky we've got a lot of people in our corner that help in that area

NRL Immortal Mal Meninga believes Jamal Fogarty may have made a mistake in signing a three-year deal with Manly
The Canberra Raiders halfback informed the club he would be leaving at season’s end and heading to Brookvale as a replacement for Daly Cherry Evans
Manly and Fogarty have agreed to terms on a $2 million deal over three years
but Meninga feels the move could be somewhat short-sighted on the player’s behalf
“I’m disappointed for the club but I’m happy for Jamal,” Meninga told SEN 1170 Afternoons
“A three-year contract and the money they’re talking about is exceptional and who would have thought half a dozen years ago that he’s earning $700k a year joining a club as a major play maker
"So good on him he’s worked his butt off
“(But) If I’m managing him or advising him - which I’m not - I would sign a two-year contract and telling him to back himself
and set himself up for the Bears or the PNG side
“I think he would be great for the PNG side
he’s an invaluable position and then you look at the money and the opportunity he would be silly not to have a look at it
but I can assure you if you’re playing league out there you will be walking around like a king
“My advice would be let’s have a look at backing yourself and then see what opportunities arise from the Bears and PNG
While some may criticise Fogarty’s decision to leave the Raiders
Meninga insists there will be no hard feelings
"You can't really criticise him for this,” he said
“I know he loves it down there and his family is settled but rugby league careers only last a certain time
“He wasn’t unloyal to the club he hasn’t broken a contract he’s looking after his post career
I imagine the club will wish him all the best and hopefully Manly get a great player for there years.”

Many Warringah Sea Eagles have suffered a 24-18 defeat to the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in Round 6 at Optus Stadium in Perth.
The game went right down to the wire after a late Daly Cherry-Evans try put Manly back within six points with only a minute left on the clock.
After a scoreless opening 35 minutes, the Sharks ran in two tries in quick succession to lead 8-0 at half time.
Manly looked the more expansive of the two sides for much of the first half, but the Sharks made the most of their limited opportunities, with five-eighth Braydon Trindall laying on two tries for winger Sam Stonestreet.
The first was from a cutout ball on the short side, and the second, scored on the same patch of grass, was from a neat in-goal grubber.
It looked like the Sharks had extended their lead four minutes into the second half when fullback Will Kennedy caught a bomb inside his own 20 metre line, running 80 metres to cross, only for the try to be disallowed due to obstruction.
Two minutes later it was Manly’s turn to have a try denied by the bunker when winger Clayton Faulalo was on the end of a sweeping play to the right, planting the ball down in-touch-in-goal.
Kennedy was rewarded with a try six minutes into the second half, when he beat five Manly defenders, darting his way from right to left and scoring next to the posts to give his team a 14-0 lead.
Manly scored their first try with half an hour remaining when Faulalo collected a Reuben Garrick grubber, with Garrick adding the extra two points to have his team trailing by eight.
The Sea Eagles were in again in the 57th minute when Luke Brooks took an intercept and raced 80 metres to score, with plenty of Sharks giving chase.
Garrick’s conversion had the Sea Eagles trailing 14-12.
The Sharks got out to a six-point lead when Marwene Hiroti found himself on the end of a quick shift to the left, with Nico Hynes’ conversion attempt from the sideline bouncing off the near post.
With the Sharks up 18-12, the match was still in the balance before an error at the back by Lehi Hopoate gave the ‘home side’ some breathing space.
The young fullback, who was busy throughput, was unable to contain a bomb, which led to Cronulla’s fifth and final try, a close-range effort from prop Tom Hazelton.
With 90 seconds remaining Cherry-Evans cashed in after Tommy Talau took an intercept and raced 80 metres to give his team the faintest of hope.
Down by six points and with only a minute on the clock, the Sea Eagles fought to the end but return from Perth empty handed.
Next up is a clash against the Dragons on Thursday at 4Pines Park.
A precious two points and Steve Rogers Trophy on offer
Jamal Fogarty has broken his silence over his move to the Sea Eagles
revealing he’s “gutted” to be leaving the Raiders but couldn’t turn down Manly’s larger offer
The Canberra halfback has played 62 games in the nation’s capital since joining the club in 2022
becoming an integral part of the club’s strong form to start 2025
Fogarty has signed a three-year deal worth $2 million to join the Sea Eagles in 2026
an offer which blew that of the Raiders out of the water
as the Northern Beaches club found their replacement for outgoing captain Daly Cherry-Evans
Fogarty said he would be sad to leave Canberra at the end of the season
“I’m pretty gutted to be leaving,” Fogarty admitted
“I’ve got great relationships with coaches and players here and we (wife Kahlia and their children) love how slow and laid back it is in Canberra
“I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity that Manly have given me for the next three years
“It’s great the deal is all sorted and we can move on with our season
I’m completely focused and committed on the Raiders and the great start to the season we’ve had as a team.”
“I always wanted to stay and the club knew I wanted to stay
“My agent rang the club three times during the pre-season to activate the one-year deal..
unfortunately they (Canberra) knocked it back and wanted to renegotiate
the Raiders just didn’t budge on their offer which was well below my current deal
The club made a business decision and so did I.”
Denan Kemp said Fogarty may suit Manly coach Anthony Seibold’s play style more than that of Cherry-Evans
he's got a long boot and Manly relies so heavily on DCE just to be able to… kick us out of trouble,” Kemp said
granted… I still think without DCE they're probably not a premiership threat… however
The thing with Fogarty is you could make an argument he suits (Anthony) Seibold more than DCE
Seibold is very much…I wouldn't say strict
I wonder if that might help Seibold and Fogarty’s relationship to a degree.”
You will need to take the path less travelled when the beloved Manly to Spit scenic walk undergoes crucial repairs over the next three months
The serene walk sees thousands of visitors every year take in the breath-taking views
but with so many feet some of the walkways and stairs can no longer be repaired and must be replaced at two sections
Stage 1 at Castle Rock and stage 2 at Fisher Bay
The works will start at the Castle Rock boardwalk after Anzac Day and will include a 500m signposted detour to direct walkers up Barrabooka Street and onto Ogilvy Road before rejoining the scenic walk
works will commence on the Fisher Bay section
which requires the reconstruction of the wooden staircase so walkers will need to follow the signposted path between Ellery’s Punt Reserve at the Spit Bridge and Sandy Bay near Clontarf
It’s recommended that if travelling by bus to the Spit Bridge to commence the walk that you alight at Heaton Ave if travelling south and if travelling north you alight at the Spit Bridge and follow the signs.
The Council encourages all track users to plan ahead and visit Council’s website for detour maps and up to date information on the status of each section. Manly Scenic Walkway (to Spit Bridge) | Northern Beaches Council
The Manly to Spit Walk has undergone numerous repairs over the years
but this larger scale replacement of these sections is now essential to ensure the area is safe for everyone and to reduce ongoing costs on repairs
These works are part of Council's ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving the safety and accessibility of local tracks and trails across the Northern Beaches
Works are scheduled to take place from the end of April through to June 2025

The Panthers were defeated 26-10 by Manly Sea Eagles at CommBank Stadium on Saturday
the Panthers surged early in the second half with Blaize Talagi and Izack Tago scoring to bring Penrith back into the contest
However it was not to be for the Panthers as penalties
Manly turned to their right edge for both first-half tries
as Reuben Garrick sliced through for the opener before Tommy Talau touched down in the corner
and added a penalty goal after a string of infringements
Scott Sorensen was contentiously sin-binned late in the first half
after he was deemed to have made high contact on Nathan Brown
The poor half was reflected on the stats sheet with Manly dominating possession (58%) and the penalty count (6-2)
as both Casey McLean and Brad Schneider were temporarily forced off the field
After keeping Manly scoreless through Sorensen’s absence
the Panthers came to life early in the second half
The playmakers reignited the Panthers night when Nathan Cleary kicked a 40/20 and Blaze Talagi scooted over on the shortside
Cleary’s sideline conversion attempt was unsuccessful
where Paul Alamoti’s threw a fantastic offload for Izack Tago to touch down
The Panthers appeared to have levelled up when Luke Sommerton launched for the try line
Manly went down a man when Sio Siua Taukeiaho was sin-binned for high contact
but it was soon 12-on-12 as Alamoti was sent for a professional foul
The Panthers second sin bin of the night proved fatal
as Manly went back-to-back to kill off the game
Haumole Olakau'atu won an aerial contest to score
The Panthers now turn their attention to NRL Magic Round
where they will face Brisbane Broncos on Sunday 4 May

Of all of the crazy results in the mixed-up
shook-up world that is the NRL this season
the sight of the champions going from the penthouse to the outhouse is the most outrageous
“The ladder doesn’t really matter until July or August
but I guess it’s a talking point,” said Panthers coach Ivan Cleary
to a Manly side that snapped a three-game losing streak
Three players - Manly’s Siosiua Taukeiaho and Penrith pair Scott Sorensen and Paul Alamoti - spent time in the sin bin
watched it whittle away during a horror period after the break in which they had only about 20 per cent of the football
and then regrouped to record just their second win in 11 attempts against the Mountain Men
“We’re playing against a team that’s won the last four premierships and playing away from home,” said Manly coach Anthony Seibold
“We sort of had to navigate that little period there and our leaders were great tonight

where Haumole Olakau’atu constantly terrorised Casey McLean
“Really influential,” Seibold said of Trbojevic
“I thought Turbo and Chez [Daly Cherry-Evans] led our team exceptionally well
It was great to have him back on the park.”
In a match where the momentum swung wildly - the pendulum shifted towards the Panthers when Nathan Cleary kicked a contentious 40-20 - the Sea Eagles were better for longer
“We’ve got to put bigger periods of good play together,” Ivan Cleary
“We’ve got to start the game better than we did tonight
so that’s not going to win you too many games
but too many times this year so far that’s happening
you look back and you’ve just got to play better
There is still time for Penrith to make the long
It will need to begin against Brisbane in Magic Round
and the Panthers are officially last on the 2025 NRL ladder...yikes
but they let Manly take back control in the final 20 minutes of the game
who will now get two free points with the bye next week as all the other teams head up to magic round
Nothing ground breaking from Tom Trbojevic on his return tonight
but you can see that the Sea Eagles are far more settles when he’s on the field
The calls on high tackles have gotten a bit out of hand tonight...in this blogger’s humble opinion

Two of the best halfbacks in the competition will collide when Penrith host the Sea Eagles on Saturday night
Panthers halfback Nathan Cleary helped his side snap a five-game losing streak last weekend and the superstar is eager to produce another big performance this week
Penrith will be without hooker Mitch Kenny
however five-eighth Blaize Talagi has shown glimpses of the exciting player he has the potential to develop into and continues to develop his partnership with Cleary
The Sea Eagles will travel to CommBank Stadium desperate to end a three-game skid of their own
with halfback Daly Cherry-Evans eager to steady the ship in his final year with the club
The veteran remains one of the best attacking minds in the competition and will need all his brilliance to orchestrate a victory over the four-time defending premiers
Panthers: A late change sees Brad Schneider replace Luke Sommerton as the run-on hooker
with triple premiership winner Mitch Kenny out suspended
Izack Tago returns to the centres in place of Luke Garner (concussion)
Daine Laurie serves as the replacement player
Sea Eagles: No further moves from coach Anthony Seibold an hour from kick-off
following a flurry of changes on Friday night
That saw Jason Saab (ankle) and Josh Aloiai (shoulder) ruled out
with Tommy Talau moving from the bench to the wing and Ethan Bullemor replacing Aloiai in at prop
Gordon Chan Kum Tong and Caleb Navale are the new faces on the bench

but it’s great to see visitors to the area are also loving our slice of paradise.
Another big crowd was on hand at 4 Pines Park to witness the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles thump the Canberra Raiders 40-12 on Sunday evening
It was a near-perfect way for the club to celebrate its Members Round match with the seven-tries-to-two win soured by a likely season-ending injury to prop Taniela Paseka
The night began with a touching pre-match tribute for 12-year-old Manly fan Beau Hewitt
who passed away during the week after a battle with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkin lymphoma
The brave young fella would have loved what was to follow
It was a huge night for Reuben Garrick who scored four tries and bagged 28 points
just 24 hours after he and his partner celebrated the birth of their first child
The Raiders were highly resilient in the opening 20 minutes
Prop Corey Horsburgh was put in the sin bin for a professional foul when tackling in an offside position at marker with his team camped on their own try line
And boy did the home side make the most of their one-man advantage
running in three tries in the 10 minutes when the Raiders were reduced to 12 men
Garrick bagged his first try in the 22nd minute
barging over from close range before Ethan Bullemor crossed for a double in the space of three minutes
Bullemor’s first came off a Daley Cherry-Evans bomb which fullback Kaeo Weekes failed to handle
this time under pressure from Clayton Faulalo who contested the kick
‘Bully’ was heavily involved in the next try only two minutes later with a strong carry setting up replacement hooker Jake Simpkin who darted over from dummy half
A 10-minute blitz that resulted in four tries and a 24-0 lead
Garrick’s second of the night came after some quick hands on the right edge from Haumole Olakauátu and Lehi Hopoate to have his team up 30-0 at half time
Garrick was over again nine minutes into the second half
collecting a precise Cherry-Evans in-goal kick which bounced kindly
followed up by a ‘rock-the-cradle’ try celebration
and the final points of the night for Manly
came with almost half an hour still to play
Garrick beat his opposite number on the outside after receiving early ball from Cherry-Evans
The Raiders stopped the bleeding with about 25 minutes still to play
before accepting their first loss of the season
who left the field midway through the first half
is expected to have surgery on a ruptured Achilles tendon in the coming days

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles is pleased to confirm Matthew Lodge will be a part of the extended playing squad for the 2025 season
Lodge will initially play NSW Cup with a view to forcing his way into the NRL squad
An ACL rupture and torn biceps limited Lodge to just 12 appearances in his two seasons at the Sea Eagles
but the 29-year-old prop believes his best football is still ahead of him
“I know I’ll get back to where I want to be and I’m backing my ability.” Lodge said
“It wasn’t a case of me wanting to leave this club but the offer elsewhere at the time which I thought I was leaving for
but it is what it is and everything always works out in the end
I feel I was just hitting my straps at the back end of last season
Lodge says family and friendships were at the centre of his decision to return to 4 Pines Park
which at the time I thought was the right thing for us to do
I’ve realised that here is where I want to be
and I’m prepared to make sacrifices in the process
I have made a lot of close friends in my time here at Manly and it feels like home
“I left on good terms and felt like I was only just getting started here after some unlucky injuries
who has four children under the age of eight
will be juggling multiple jobs to supplement his income from football
“I’ll continue to work three days a week on a building site where I’ve been for the past six months
and I’ll also be preparing for my second pro fight in early March,” he said
“My four young boys are all Manly fans having grown up here and playing with Mona Vale Raiders
They were in tears when I told them I might have to leave but they’re very happy now
“We are really settled on the northern beaches
“Now it’s up to me to do the work and fight my way back and to be ready whenever the team needs me.”

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have suffered a 36-16 loss to the New Zealand Warriors in Round 2 of the Telstra Premiership at Go Media Stadium
The Sea Eagles finished the game with 12 men having lost both Tom Trbojevic and captain Daly Cherry-Evans late in the match
Manly looked in great shape early on taking the lead after just four minutes creating space on the right edge with Reuben Garrick and Jason Saab combining
Garrick missed the conversion from almost in front before landing a penalty goal moments later to have Manly up 6-0
Manly bombed a couple of chances through a dropped ball and forward pass before the Warriors hit back when Luke Metcalf put Chanel Harris-Tevita over for the first their first try of the season
The Warriors then scored two tries in the space of five minutes to take an 18-6 lead into the break
Winger Taine Tuaupiki stepped inside a couple of defenders to score after receiving a long pass from Metcalf
before young centre Ali Leiatua scored after a short ball from Metcalf close to the line
Jason Saab put Manly back into the game almost 10 minutes into the second half
scoring in the corner from a Luke Brooks long ball to cut the deficit to eight points
Warriors hooker Wayde Egan then cashed in on a dropped ball from manly prop Taniela Paseka
and scooting over from dummy half two tackles later to put his team up 24-10
It became 24-16 almost on the hour mark when the Sea Eagles scored a spectacular try to Daly Cherry-Evans which took several video reviews to confirm
who tapped the ball back into the field of play
his foot just a blade of grass inside the dead ball line
With 15 minutes to play Jake Trbojevic was sent to the sin bin after his team had conceded 11 set restarts
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck scored to all but seal the win for his Warriors
while the Sea Eagles saw Turbo and DCE to both leave the field
Tom’s exit was precautionary after the star No.1 felt tightness in his left hamstring

There is just the one change to the team that was defeated by the Storm in Round 5
Josh Aloiai has been named in the starting side after sitting out last weekend’s loss to Melbourne
Corey Waddell is unavailable through suspension after being hit with a Grade 2 Careless High Tackle charge against the Storm
Tommy Talau and Lachlan Croker have both been named in the extended squad
Haumole Olakau’atu will play his 100th NRL game on Saturday
The 26-year-old forward is in his seventh season with the Club after making his NRL debut in the 2019 finals series
Manly Sea Eagles have defeated Parramatta Eels 26-12 in Round 4 of the NRL Telstra Premiership before another full house at 4 Pines Park
It was a patient performance from the Sea Eagles with points hard to come by as the rain turned on and off like a tap
Adding another layer of difficulty was the loss of fullback Tom Trbojevic
who suffered a knee injury late in the first half and did not return
Turbo will have scans on Monday to confirm a suspected MCL knee injury
Manly opened the scoring with an exquisite play down the right edge
Turbo and Reuben Garrick combining to put Jason Saab away
Rather than risk passing to his inside support in DCE
Saab beat Eels fullback Isaiah Iongi on the outside
skirting down the western touchline to get the crowd on its feet for the first time
The home side crossed for their second try in the 16th minute after pinning the Eels in their own half
Left edge forward Ben Trbojevic dented the line and offloaded to brother Tom
who popped a basketball style pass for Lehi Hopoate to score the try
Manly were awarded a penalty right in front a few minutes later when the Eels failed to take a drop out in regulation time to put them up 12-0 at half time
Garrick to the wing and Ben Trbojevic to the centres
Another penalty to Manly from in front for offside made it 14-0 with just over half an hour to play
Eels prop Joe Ofahenguae celebrated his 200th NRL appearance by scoring Parramatta’s first try 15 minutes into the second half barging over from close range
although there was some doubt whether he grounded the ball
Manly extended their lead to 20-6 when Cory Waddell ran a neat line off a Luke Brooks pass to score on the left edge
Five minutes later Tolu Koula scored in the same position to put his team ahead by 20 points
The Eels scored a last-minute consolation try through Shaun Lane to confirm their fourth loss of the season
it keeps their perfect record at the fortress intact with three wins from as many games this season
and with another Sunday arvo game next week against the Storm
Tom Trbojevic will not be playing in Sunday’s Round 3 match against Canberra Raiders at 4 Pines Park
The Manly fullback experienced hamstring tightness late in the match against the Warriors last Friday and has been on a modified training program during the week
While Tom was running freely in training today
the club is taking a conservative approach to have him ready for Sunday week’s home game against the Eels
A bit of legwork by officials from the Manly and North Sydney Junior Rugby Leagues has helped continue the legacy of one of NSWRL’s most-valued former staff members – Danielle Kifooti
But a community recruitment program she created in 2022 – Manly Minis – is enjoying a boom year in 2025
“Last year we had somewhere between 50 to 60 participants,” said Donna Smith
“Obviously Daniel Kifooti started the program several years ago and it’s a legacy to her to continue this program as it’s a good one.”
Stars from the Sea Eagles side in The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup – half Jake Arthur (pictured below) and hooker Gordon Chan Kum Tong – were also on hand this week to help put the participants through some skills and encourage them to take up Rugby League
More than 100 children aged between four and seven years have now registered to take part in Manly Minis
which runs every Wednesday during February at the Sydney Academy of Sport and Recreation at North Narrabeen
There are 11 clubs in the Manly-Warringah Junior Rugby League district
“Numbers in Manly aren’t as big as areas like Penrith and Parramatta,” Smith said
“We had a number of clubs last year that didn’t field an Under 6s or Under 7s team at all with soccer and few other sports being very competitive for kids’ time.”
So Smith and her offsider Ruby Watterson from the North Sydney Bears drove around and put flyers up in local shopping centres; sent emails to local pre-schools; with the goal to have more participants than 2024
“We thought if we get 80 that would be great and we had 103 register,” Smith said
“We are still getting emails from people who have heard about the program through friends and want their children to come along.”
football – and there’s a personalised letter to them and parents with a registration link to their local club based on their home address
There are NRL Game Development Officers running the training every Wednesday for the group
Sessions include ball work like passing and catching
“Then they play little games which really get the kids involved and all the parents seem really happy,” Smith said
“The goal is then to get the children to register with their local team
We have a simple QR code in that letter which makes the process easy.”
Watterson has been working closely with Smith and the Manly district as there is no similar program at the Bears
But her involvement may now see a ‘Baby Bears’ program start in 2026

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have been defeated 38-22 by a rookie Panthers outfit in the final round of the Pre-season Challenge at Leichhardt Oval
The Sea Eagles found themselves down 22-4 at half time after the Panthers ran in four tries to one in the first period
Manly were first to score when winger Navren Willett finished off a sweeping backline play to make it 4-0 after seven minutes
with Reuben Garrick's conversion attempt bouncing off the far post
their first try scored by right winger David Fale who finished off a simple three on two short side play
They were in again 15 minutes before half time when busy young half Trent Toelau stepped around Sea Eagles’ replacement lock Caleb Navale to make it 12-4
Toelau was heavily involved in the next scoring play as well
Following an intercept off their own line he put in a neat kick behind the Sea Eagles defensive line for left centre Tom Jenkins to put his side ahead 18-4
It became 22-4 on the stroke of half time when a pinpoint kick from Toelau landed on the chest of Fale for the winger to grab his second
Manly scored first in the second half when Lehi Hopoate
who started on the wing and was shifted to fullback
fed a nice ball for Raymond Tuaimalo Vaega to power his way to the line
The Sea Eagles were in again minutes later when their two props combined from 30 metres out
Sio Siua Taukeiaho provided a neat ball to Ethan Bullemor who celebrated his 25th birthday with a try adjacent to the posts to bring the deficit back to just one converted try
The Panthers hit back 18 minutes into the second half when they scored off another in goal kick
this time for edge forward Harrison Hassett
Panthers prop Preston Riki then barged his way over with about six minutes remaining to put his side up 32-16 and put the game all but out of reach
Vaega showed great strength to carry three Panthers over the line in the dying minutes
before the Panthers iced the 38-22 victory with a try on full time
The Dragons took care of business against Manly 38-6 at Collegians on Saturday afternoon behind a Nathan Lawson hat-trick
but several last tackle plays went awry as the contest remained in search of its first points
but Ben Rumble found the first points of the afternoon for the hosts on the end of a right-side shift in which second-rower-turned-centre Nick Tsougranis showcased a nice pair of hands for the final pass
Raymond Faitala-Mariner went within inches of extending the hosts’ lead only for the ball to be dislodged from his grasp just shy of the grass
The Dragons found a fortuitous try prior to half-time with Manly appearing to have repelled the attack raid with an intercept only to have lost it into the waiting arms of Nathan Lawson who jogged over to score and make it a 10-point game
Willie Talau’s men managed to find another before the half-time siren sounded with Lawson finishing off a textbook shift play to dive over in the left corner off the back of a high tackle penalty
Manly centre Max Hayley left the field in their first set of the second half for a HIA before the Red V found their fourth try of the afternoon
Faitala-Mariner powered his way through an army of defenders to get the ball to the turf with Jonah Glover knocking over the conversion to make it 20-0
The Dragons’ dominance persisted with Lawson finding his third try of the encounter off a deft Lyhkan King-Togia grubber to make the lead an imposing one for the hosts
Antonio Taufa went close to finding Manly’s first an hour in only to be denied with officials observing a forward pass in the lead-up
the Dragons nabbed another try off the back of it with King-Togia slipping into space before finding a supporting Cody Ramsey on the inside to race away and dive over under the sticks and continue the side’s march towards a key win
The buffer ballooned out to 36-0 soon after with Tsougranis diving over in the right corner after the Dragons had again stripped Manly’s edge for numbers

Having won two of their past four matches and lost the other two by a single point
the Dragons loom as a dangerous opponent for a Sea Eagles outfit down a superstar fullback and down on confidence
The Red V are coming off a strong win over the Titans while Manly have lost two on the bounce to Melbourne and Cronulla without Tom Trbojevic
who faces at least another week on the sideline with a knee injury
With their back five combining for 849 metres
the Dragons piled on seven tries to blow the Titans off the park in their best attacking display of the season
The Sea Eagles made the long journey to Perth and came home empty handed so they will enjoy the return to home turf at Brookie where they have won three of four this season
Sea Eagles: No further game day changes after Toafofoa Sipley was elevated to the starting side in place of Josh Aloiai on Wednesday
Dragons: A late switch an hour before kick-off with Dylan Egan to start and Luciano Leilua going to the bench
