Google is proposing to land two new subsea cables outside of designated protection zones in Sydney owing to “congestion” within those zones The company, through its “registered licence carrier company Perch Infrastructure”, has applied to the NSW government for permission to land the cables at Maroubra Beach in Sydney’s south. The application was first reported by CommsDay. It is also separately proposing that the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) extend the boundary of the existing southern Sydney cable protection zone Google is building two cables under its Pacific Connect Initiative - Tabua and Honomoana - that will connect “Australia to the United States of America (US) A submission [pdf] to NSW planning authorities notes that there are currently 12 subsea cables that land in the protection zones in Sydney subsea cables typically land in the northern or southern Sydney cable protection zones,” the submission states congestion in these areas has required telecommunication providers to seek alternative sites "Given the increasing congestion in Sydney’s protection zones routing the cable outside of these areas would alleviate pressure The company added that a "route landing at Maroubra offers operational redundancy and address the growing demands for connectivity." The company is proposing to install two cables “from two cable conduits ‘punch out points’ located approximately one kilometre offshore”.  “From the ‘punch out points’ the cables would either be buried below the seabed or laid on the seabed (or a combination of these) out to the NSW three nautical mile (5.56 kilometre) coastal waters limit,” the submission states Error: no decision tree source folder detected six-bathroom property in Maroubra sold for $7,125,000 at auction on Saturday to a local gentleman bidding on behalf of his son and daughter-in-law The stunning home at 45 Fowler Crescent was a few blocks from the beach and came with a swimming pool, marble throughout and top-level ocean views. and $100,000 bids took the price past its $7 million reserve A final $25,000 bid secured the keys for $7,125,000 Ray White Eastern Beaches selling agent Nader Hotait said he received an offer of $6.5 million The vendors declined because they wanted to sell under auction conditions “There’s a lot of sentiment [that] the markets are going to take off again and buyers [are] wanting to get in now,” he said The “very happy” vendors had built the three-year-old home for themselves and have since purchased closer to the beachfront The address last traded for $2.55 million in 2018 The property was one of 1291 scheduled auctions in Sydney last week Domain Group had recorded a preliminary auction clearance rate of 68.9 per cent from 820 reported results Withdrawn auctions are counted as unsold properties when calculating the clearance rate Outback town Broken Hill has ‘potential’ to be Australia’s version of Las Vegas Rentvesting quickly rising as final option for locked-out property buyers in Sydney and Brisbane a two-bedroom apartment sold for $2.42 million to a mother-daughter investor duo The unit at 504/51 Lavender Street was guided at $1.9 million. 2 Baths1 ParkingView listing Six registered for the auction of the flat including two parties who hadn’t previously inspected it; they registered midway through the auction Four bid on the strata property without a gym or pool and a big follow-up bid of $150,000 took the price to $1.95 million Bids ranging from $50,000 to $10,000 drove the price $420,000 past the home’s $2 million reserve “There definitely seems to be a bit more positivity creeping back into the market the last couple of weeks FOMO is starting to re-enter the buyer psyche,” said auctioneer Edward Riley Richardson & Wrench’s Victoria Liu said it was easy to find tenants for properties in Milsons Point because of high demand Liu said the suburb’s proximity to the city railway station and community meant it was a “vibrant The vendor planned to upsize to a home out of the city The unit last traded for $1.97 million in 2018 In Leichhardt, a double-fronted Federation home sold for $4,775,000. Highland Inner West agent Yianni Sclavos said the initial guide of $4.2 million was raised to a range of $4.5 million to $4.7 million after strong interest during the campaign. “It’s [within] walking distance to all the shops, groceries, cafes [and] bus stops nearby as well,” he said. Sclavos said interest rate cuts had not made much difference yet. “I feel like there’s a lot of buyers still out there waiting for more drops before doing anything and taking action.” The buyer owns a business close to the home. The vendor planned to relocate to Concord. The address last traded for $1.53 million in 2013, records show. Ray White Group chief economist Nerida Conisbee said Sydney’s clearance rate of 68.9 per cent was fairly strong. “It’s reflective of the interest rate cut, and that buyers are feeling more confident, but it’s not 70-plus. That tends to be the super strong market,” she said. She said while the clearance rate was similar to this time last year, “the big challenge at the moment, which we didn’t have last year, is the high level of economic uncertainty”. Conisbee’s outlook for the year was still positive, if uncertain.
