Franco’s Deli is the latest authentic Italian eatery to open in Mawson Lakes
and it’s owned and operated by a 16-year-old
Franco’s Deli will be the newest eatery to touch down in Mawson Lakes
bringing with it authentic Italian food and awesome coffee
the leading force behind it is passionate 16-year-old
The Adelaide-born Italian has been working his way through the hospitality industry since he was 13
and immediately realised this was the pathway for him
although I was born in Adelaide and grew up here my whole life,” Carlo says
“I’m only 16 years old and I started in hospitality when I was 13
Back then I wanted to be a tradie when I finished school
“I started out clearing tables and washing dishes in a café and within two years
I had grown from that to being the café manager and able to do all positions within the cafe at only 15
“From there I knew this is what I wanted to do forever
I approached the owner of the café I worked for
who is an Italian chef from Italy with over 10 years of industry experience (even at a Michelin Star restaurant in Italy) and said I wanted to own my own place
“He is my mentor and is mentoring me every step of the way in my journey of opening Franco’s Deli
physically doing the work ourselves – one thing he’s taught me is hard work always pays off,.”
Mawson Lakes seemed like the perfect location for the Deli
“I haven’t seen any good quality
so I knew I had to bring something to Mawson Lakes,” Carlo says
Carlo’s education under the eye of his mentor has brought with it a passion for authentic Italian flavours
youthful environment is what will make Franco’s stand out
“We are bringing an authentic Italian sandwich shop
doing amazing Focaccia sandwiches with the highest quality products,” Carlo says
“We will have the best coffee you’ve tasted and delicious cakes
fun environment and beautiful new fit out.”
there will be all the best Italian favourites
fresh juices and a pantry retail section to take home the ingredients you love
Carlo’s favourite has to be the “Sopressa Focaccia which has Golden Peppers
Spicy Mayo and of course a heap of Sopressa
if you’ve been looking for a new sandwich or coffee spot
and promise to be active on their social media pages to ensure customers are kept in the loop

Relish on Main is the ‘go-to’ gathering spot for delicious food everyone can enjoy
When you’re in unfamiliar territory and want to know where to go for great food and community vibes
People will rarely reward a venue with loyalty for serving a single positive attribute
Only when these elements combine will you find a joint buzzing day after day
It becomes a gathering place where locals congregate for food
We discovered exactly this at Relish on Main Urban Diner in Mawson Lakes
Relish on Main Urban Diner sits on a street corner at the end of a beautiful
with Mawson Lake before it and an urban shopping hub behind it
making it the perfect location to top up your stomach
While its prime lakeside location has made it an easy go-to for the Mawson Lake Parkrun crowd
welcoming team are responsible for securing its role as Parkrun’s official fuelling station
pouring their post-run coffees for the last seven years
Inspired by their healthy reputation via association and propelled by grumbling stomachs due to a late start (hence no breakfast)
we strolled in just after the busy lunch crowd had polished off their plates
Upon expressing our delight at having scored a perfect window seat for two
Café Manager Danni commented that their generous seating meant that a table or two is usually free unless you appear “… on a Saturday morning when this place is heaving with the Parkrun community
It’s just amazing in here when they flow through the doors!”
sharing her insights into their most beloved menu items
including their All-Day Breakfasts that you can order at whatever time you desire “… our Big Brekkie is very popular
because it’s literally a very big breakfast
but it’s also open to variations. You can switch it to a vegetarian or a vegan version
We also incorporate a wide selection of dietary requirements at all times of the day; it doesn’t matter how busy we are”.
For those who’ve struggled with the ‘no menu adjustment’ notifications on other café menus
which present enjoyment hurdles for those with dietary requirements
this ‘no worries’ approach is heaven-sent
some of our more popular meals include our Burgers
Our salads are also at the top of our orders
especially the Avo Chicken’n’Mango salad
Our protein smoothies are the go-to option for our customers who want a super quick and nourishing stomach filler along with our Toasted Sandwiches”
In addition to their regular crowd going about their daily business
Relish on Main also provides nourishment for the students and staff flowing out of nearby Uni SA
including the customers and staff from the local physiotherapy
pilates and allied health clinics.
“Quite a lot of our menu items can be made fresh with a relatively quick turnaround
so we’re a great option for anyone wanting a quick drop-in or takeaway meal
We belong to a friendly community that supports each other
I love that I recognise so many of our customers and can pre-empt their regular orders for them.”“Our local business teams will often pop in to grab a quick coffee or takeaway meal on some days
they’ll book one of our private dining areas so their whole team can sit down for a meal together
Booking the private dining spaces is free of charge
Given that weekday breakfasts are often raced meals
an essential pit stop to bust hunger and score a burst of energy for the morning ahead
the idea of a late afternoon breakfast felt like the perfect blend of novelty and nourishment
we selected a Big Vegan Breaky and a dairy-free version of the Kranky Pig Burritto
we watched the Sunday afternoon cruisers strolling around the lake while seagulls darted above and ducks paddled along the water. It was a sunny day outside
so the alfresco area became a watering hole for the local dogs who had taken their humans out for a walk while the weather was on their side
Both meals received a double thumbs up for fresh flavours
top-notch preparation (extra points for zero-greasiness)
Because we were in a pancake lover’s paradise
we shared a plate of banana pancakes that were so warm and fluffy that I almost wished I was small enough to snuggle in between them and fall asleep again
Danni offered to pack the remainder of our meal into an eco-friendly container to be enjoyed at leisure later in the day
Had I not inhaled a mug full of their dark
but this mug of heavenly comfort was too delish to resist
The first few sips were already rich and smooth
a thick layer of velvety dark deliciousness swirled up
With a menu packed with everyone’s favourites from breakfast through dinner
and their mouth-watering “Desserts by Indulge” menu
Relish on Main is an easy win for small and big groups alike.

But could you possibly imagine completing your education while simultaneously working 40-60 hour weeks managing a cafe
At just sixteen, Adelaide-born Italian Carlo Capone is doing just that. As owner and manager of Franco’s Deli
Carlo is splitting the majority of his time between running his new Italian deli and completing his education online

When he first felt the inspiration to open his own Italian deli
Carlo sought advice from the owner of the café he worked at
an Italian chef with 10 years of experience
who even worked for a Michelin Star restaurant back in Italy
This mentor has guided Carlo through every step of the journey to open Franco’s Deli
putting in countless hours of physical labour
“One thing he’s taught me is hard work always pays off”
By working in Mawson Lakes for three years
Carlo saw an opportunity: “I haven’t seen any good quality
so I knew I had to bring something to Mawson Lakes”

Lottery officials are urgently seeking the Mawson Lakes resident or visitor who purchased a $1 million winning Monday & Wednesday X Lotto ticket nearly a year ago
as the deadline to claim the prize is fast approaching
The mystery winner may be completely unaware that they've been sitting on the life-changing ticket for almost 12 months
The elusive player held one of the two division one winning entries in Monday & Wednesday X Lotto draw 4325 on Wednesday 27 September 2023
which means officials from The Lott have no way to contact the winner to break the life-changing news and must wait for them to come forward to claim their prize
lottery prizes must be collected within 12 months after the draw date
the unclaimed money is forfeited to the Lotteries Commission of South Australia
which has a prize claim process and associated administration costs
Monday & Wednesday X Lotto changed to a single lottery game called Weekday Windfall across Australia (excluding WA)
The division one winning entry was purchased at BP Mawson Lakes
The Lott spokesperson Khat McIntyre said time was ticking for the mystery player to come forward to claim and to claim their million-dollar prize and urged all players to check their tickets as soon as possible
“Time is running out for this mystery millionaire
In South Australia lottery winners have just one year from the draw date to claim their prize before it is forfeited to the Lotteries Commission of South Australia
which has a prize claim process and associated administration costs,” she said
