the Panthers will become the 10th senior affiliated club in the league and will see the Ballarat Football Netball League reduced to 10 clubs
The RDFNL confirmed this afternoon that the club had been accepted into the competition by a vast majority of its voting members
"Following the SGM (special general meeting)
the RDFNL clubs voted on the acceptance or non acceptance of MSFNC
the RDFNL required a majority vote (over 50 per cent) for the acceptance to occur," the statement said
"The RDFNL is pleased to announce that all votes are in and there was a majority 79 per cent vote for the acceptance of Melton South Football Netball Club joining the RDFNL for the 2025 season
"An important part of this vote was the vote of the senior men's clubs and there was a 60 per cent majority across the senior men's clubs as well who will be directly competing against MSFNC."
Melton South president Matthew Collins said the result was a huge relief to the club
revealing there was a strong possibility the club wouldn't have been able to field a reserves team next season had it had stayed in Ballarat
I honestly think the club could have died without this
there are some real grave fears that we wouldn't have fielded a two's side next season if we had have stayed
it's a great result for our club," he said
The club will join the RDFNL in season 2025
Picture by Kate Healy"Just the fact that we now expect we'll be competitive than what we have been against Ballarat sides
Right now we don't have the numbers and talent to be able to compete at that level
we were worried we weren't going to be able to survive
it will enable us to retain some players and come back again."
The positive vote in favour of the club joining the RDFNL ends the club's 27-year association with the BFNL
The club still has two netball teams in action during the finals which will play over the coming weeks in a bid to win one
The RDFNL is now working through the process of admitting the club into the league
"The RDFNL has today written to AFL Victoria and the Ballarat Football Netball League to inform them both of the RDFNL's position," the league said
"The Transfer of Leagues procedure will now be followed as per AFL Victoria rules
We thank the Ballarat Football Netball League for their communication and understanding and the RDFNL has a great deal of respect for our neighbouring league."

other seaside towns and even some of the state’s regional centres — including the Wonthaggi-Inverloch region — have had hundreds of residents pass
This four-bedroom house at 31 Muskwood Drive, Mickleham – in Victoria’s top births region – is for sale with a $620,000-$680,000 asking range
buying a home in area close to kindergartens and schools can be an important factor
KPMG urban economist Terry Rawnsley said locations with significant housing developments
Regions where deaths outpace births often have a concentration of aged care homes; fewer younger buyers due to limited development; or younger generations who have moved for economic reasons
“Then there are coastal locations such as Rosebud
and Portarlington where people retired to 20 years ago and now have a higher proportion of elderly residents,” Mr Rawnsley said
KPMG urban economist Terry Rawnsley says that Victoria’s birth hotspots are clustered in Melbourne’s northern and western growth corridors
43 Goodia St, Wollert, will be auctioned on December 14 with a $510,000-$560,000 price range
Wollert logged 581 babies born to residents in 2023
making it another of Victoria’s top birth regions
Bombay Real Estate associate director Jatin Mehta said Victoria’s top births’ region
attracted a lot of first-home buyers thanks to the affordability of larger houses
having several schools and a multicultural community
“Mickleham is a place where people settle down
stay for a few years and then upgrade to a bigger home,” Mr Mehta said
He has seen couples expecting a baby bid higher than their set budget at auctions as their delivery date looms
including one family who went $40,000 above their limit
2 Poppy Place, Aintree is on the market with $640,000-$700,000 price hopes
Aintree is in an area that recorded Victoria’s second-highest number of births in 2023
Many families head to Melbourne’s outer suburbs when they have a second child and need a home with more space
whose patch includes the birth hotspot Pakenham
said $500,000-$750,000 could usually secure a three-bedroom house in the area
Local homeowners are active on social media
petitioning for infrastructure including a cinema and department stores in their suburb
which would make it even more family friendly
he has observed pregnant vendors hoping to sell before their baby arrives
while expecting buyers want to be settled in their future school zone
“Even if it’s $5000 above what they want to pay
some buyers will spend that if it means they are in a home by their timeline,” he said
With a $750,000-$820,000 price tag, 87A Potton Ave, Rosebud, is in the Victorian region that recorded the highest number of deaths among residents in 2023
Ray White Wollert director Mike Assaad is no stranger to soon-to-be and new parents experiencing heightened emotions at auctions
While he still sees buyers starting a family go above their desired price range
nowadays this happens less due to the rising cost of living and higher interest rates
Belle Property Dromana principal Grant McConnell said plenty of retirees headed to Rosebud and surrounds for the coastal lifestyle an hour from Victoria’s capital
Buyers who have sold their former family home in suburban Melbourne were often able to offer Peninsula sellers a cash settlement
“The majority of our sales are unconditional sales,” Mr McConnell said
He added that some homeowners preferred to deal with buyers who could pay immediately
even for a price $5000 to $10,000 below their asking range
rather than those who made offers subject to finance
This three-bedroom house at 4-5 Orli Court, Wheelers Hill, is for sale with a $1.5m-$1.6m asking range

“To have a house in eight years is a massive achievement
Priced at $660,000-$710,000, 50 Cumberland Drive, Pakenham, is currently for sale
Pakenham had the eleventh-highest number of births in Victoria last year
Mr Vellien and Ms Naidoo were renting in the Cranbourne North area and spent months saving to buy a home
said that he put the money earned from his role as goalkeeper towards their savings
And while he and his wife sometimes worry about finances and wondered if they would achieve their goal of buying a house
their strong Catholic faith helped them stay hopeful
such as when they were told they would have to pay $4000 in conveyancer’s fees but the sum ended up being $2000
there were 286,998 births registered in Australia in 2023
Mr Vellien said Pakenham’s affordable property prices
parks and 61km distance to Melbourne’s CBD attracted them to the area
it’s close to their work and tertiary studies in the city’s southeast
“We wanted a good work-life balance and that means you can’t have a massive mortgage,” Mr Vellien said
Mr Vellien and Ms Naidoo faced some competition for the unit they bought and then moved into less than a fortnight ago
“We came in pretty strong because we really loved the house,” Mr Vellien said
Annual analysis of property sales data from Victoria’s Valuer General shows that an estimated 163,105 homes were sold in the state during 2023
They like that their new home is not a townhouse and that it has a decent-sized backyard and a garage
The pair purchased the two-bedroom abode through Mr Staindl
who had the listing for what was formerly his grandmother’s home

the three suburbs investors should be watching that are benefiting from rail network expansion
Melbourne’s property market has underperformed compared to other Australian cities
Continued high levels of international immigration, however, are fuelling speculation that increased population pressures could put upward pressure on prices in the Victorian capital
API Magazine columnist and property data specialist Kent Lardner said analysis of a range of factors vital to a successful real estate investment had revealed the top three suburbs for property investors to target
he has also singled out the worst three investment suburb prospects
And with Melbourne’s rail network expanding
many investors are speculating on what that might mean for the property market along those routes
The top three suburbs on the train line for investor potential are also revealed
these are the top three suburbs in Melbourne for property investors
These suburbs exhibit a combination of strong rental yields
making them attractive options for investors
Altona Meadows

with an average rental yield of 3.25 per cent
The suburb’s rental market shows a relatively low vacancy rate of 0.71 per cent
with rental affordability at 29.24 per cent
reflecting a balanced market for potential home buyers and investors
Chirnside Park
Chirnside Park offers a median house price of $890,000
the suburb presents a solid investment opportunity
The suburb benefits from a zero percent vacancy rate
Rental affordability is favourable at 27.8 per cent

Wandin North
It offers the highest rental yield among the three suburbs at 3.66 per cent
which is a decrease from 3.60 months a year ago
indicating an improving market for sellers
The suburb’s vacancy rate is 1.60 per cent
making it an appealing choice for investors seeking a strong rental return and moderate entry costs
these suburbs provide a compelling mix of investment potential
positioning them as the top choices for property investors in Melbourne
The advent of new rail stations in Melbourne has markedly enhanced the appeal of several suburbs
with three suburbs emerging as the prime investment locations
These suburbs are not only benefitting from improved connectivity but also demonstrating strong market fundamentals
the development of new rail stations is positively impacting these suburbs
driving demand and enhancing their attractiveness for property investors
Burwood
stands out with a median listing price of $1,596,000
This suburb offers a moderate rental yield of 2.25 per cent
a slight increase from 2.53 months a year ago

These factors contribute to lower attractiveness

making it less attractive for renters due to the higher cost burden
The vacancy rate in St Albans is 1.17 per cent
the increasing inventory levels signal potential challenges for property owners in maintaining occupancy and rental income
Sunshine North
Sunshine North features a median house price of $777,920 and a rental yield of 3.37 per cent
The suburb struggles with an inventory level of 6.00 months
with rental affordability at 33.6 per cent
indicating a significant financial burden on renters
but the high inventory levels could lead to longer vacancy periods and increased competition among landlords
these suburbs face considerable market pressures due to high inventory levels and rental affordability challenges
These factors contribute to a less favourable investment environment
highlighting the need for careful consideration and strategic planning by potential investors
When it comes to investing in houses priced under $1 million across six Australian capital cities
and the data that crunched multiple variables in thousands of suburbs
have unearthed the top three prospective investor hotspots in each city

You might notice a splash of vibrancy if you walk or drive past the corner of Station Road and Brooklyn Road in Melton South
thanks to a mural freshly painted by Candela Alconada
Melbourne based artist who has been painting professionally for the last six years
which she said she designed to represent the “diversity of the society” of Melton
while bringing “happy vibes” to what used to be a grey wall
but when I have the chance to do it in public where it changes the space
it gives what I’m doing more of a purpose,” she said
“I believe that there’s a change through art
seeing people look at the walls and kids making up stories about what it’s about… an old man told me he wants to bring his grandkids to see it
The mural is the third instalment of a wider project with Melton council called The Stories That Connect Us that began in 2021
Ms Alconada said her first two pieces for the project were garden bed painting workshops
“I’m really grateful for the opportunity from the council
and throughout the whole project I’ve been getting a lot of nice feedback
I’ve felt really supported by the whole community,” she said
A time-warp hit Melton South Primary School on Friday
with pupils parading through the school to launch the celebration of its 100th anniversary
To commemorate the milestone pupils held a picnic and paraded in costumes from any decade between 1923 and today
The launch picnic is the first of a range of activities the school is undertaking throughout their 100th year
The school has built a centenary garden with brick pavers members of the public can sponsor to personalise
and has redesigned a classroom to appear as if it is from the year 1923
Centenary committee member Emma Shadwick said the room “sets the scene” to show pupils how much teaching and learning have changed over the years
Tours of the redesigned room are being offered in conjunction with the Melton Heritage Festival
the school also intends to host an open gala event with details to be confirmed
Ms Shadwick said it has been an honour to help organise the school’s celebrations
“It has been a dream of mine to work at this school and to be able to participate in celebrating something so momentous is fantastic,” she said
“Especially because this school means so much to our community.”

Steadfield Melton South has homes priced at half Melbourne’s median
A Melbourne development is selling houses for less than half the city’s $750,000 median house price
Steadfield Melton South has homes available for as little as $370,000
which is also $50,000 below the affordable western suburb’s own median house price
according to latest realestate.com.au figures
With 48 houses on blocks ranging from about 150sq m to 300sq m
the Sphere Group project’s prices top out at $469,500

“The whole development is targeted at first-home buyers and first-home investors
and given the current situation with COVID-19 and owner-occupier incentives
most are first-home buyers,” Mr Bevacqua said
they had also received strong interest from downsizers in the region
The development will feature modern home designs at affordable prices
Low-maintenance garden and living spaces have appealed to first-home buyers
To be built as an in-fill project on surplus land previously owned by a neighbouring retirement community
the new homes are walking distance from shops
The houses are also bringing a modern aesthetic to the suburb
Floating timber floors and good natural light will add to the homes’ charms
Caesarstone benchtops feature in the homes’ kitchens
A mix of render and lightweight cement frontages will replace the typical brick facade
the double-storey floorplans range between 150-185sq m and include three bedrooms
an open-plan living area and a single garage as standard
Larger residences have a second living area upstairs and a double garage
landscaping and European appliances are all included
construction to start shortly after and residents to move in from about April
Bathrooms have been designed with a light and bright aesthetic
Three-bedroom houses cost between $370,000 and $469,500
Melton South has received a shock boost with a third VFL player moving to the club full time for this year’s Ballarat Football League season
Having already secured Port Melbourne duo Ryan Pendlebury and Shannen Lange
the Panthers have signed forward Dylan Conway
who has also been playing for Port Melbourne
has had Melton South as his home club the last two years
In that time he has played eight senior games for the Panthers
Panthers coach Heath Pritchard said Conway was originally going to continue his VFL career
He said they were thrilled to have him full time at the club
“He is a proven player in this league,” he said
“I got a call from him saying things had changed
He’s just had a baby and runs his own business and struggling to get to training three times a week
“He’s good friends with Shannen and Ryan and wanted to play with them again.”
who was a runner at Port Melbourne before taking on the Panthers coaching role
said that Conway’s stat of 37 goals in his time for the Panthers
doesn’t show his true impact in his time at the club
He said one of their areas of concern last season had been in the forward line and they hoped that Conway would help with that
will play some games after spending last year in the NAB League
Michael Callus has returned to the club and also expected to be part of a new look forward line
who has been training with the side throughout the pre-season
who finished equal fourth in the VFL best and fairest the Liston Medal
retired from VFL after deciding his opportunity to play at a higher level was over
he had been aligned with the Panthers already
Pritchard said he would play in the midfield at the Panthers
Pendlebury will play a key role in defence alongside Daniel Leggett and Sam Hurst
Daniel Walker has also joined the Panthers from cross town rival Melton and is expected to add a bit
Pritchard said the club’s decision 12 months ago to become a home club for several VFL players had already paid off
There’s still another three players on VFL lists who are aligned to the Panthers
having only lost Paul Bower and Lachie Watkins
but we think we have more than covered him,” he said
“Lachie didn’t play a lot of footy for us last year
Pritchard said they were hoping to be more competitive this year
He said they wanted to start bringing more enjoyment to the club and the fans
The Panthers finished bottom for a second straight season
“We realise that we are coming from a long way back,” he said
“We’re not going to be making big statements
“We want to be competitive and then you can start winning games of football
but it doesn’t matter until you start playing footy.”

Melton South is starting to come together in the Ballarat Netball League
The Panthers have three wins from their first four matches with a new line up and a number of exciting players out on the court
For coach Anna Edmonds she said they were learning as they go along
“It has been amazing three wins and one loss against Sunbury which is a strong side and on top of the table,” she said
“Melton was a good hit out in the first round
They are a rival club and it was good to see everyone out there on court
There were things to work on and for some of the girls it was the first time playing against a Ballarat team and seeing the different style of play
We’re a newly formed team and we’re working out our strengths and weaknesses.”
“Against East Point we had to fight and players were able to shine.”
Edmonds said she was excited about the squad that she had managed to put together
Alyssa Dreaneen is a real pocket rocket in the mid court with Edmonds saying that she just takes a hit and gets back up
Narena Baker has come back from injury and has started well as Kiara Boyd has been an awesome defender
Tahnysha Salanoa has returned to the club from a few years away
“It’s awesome to have her back,” Edmonds said
“To have her back and have her experience in netball and leadership in attack
“We’re still working out things like connections and the types of passes that she likes
Edmonds said McCormack was benefiting from playing in the Victorian Netball League championship division with the Western Warriors alongside Kim Borger and Julia Woolley
Edmonds said they will likely use the rolling sub a bit more as they look to form those combinations
the Panthers and Edmonds are keen to build on throughout the season
especially some wins against a couple of Ballarat sides,” she said
“We’ve got the team to make finals and we want to push for finals and see how it goes
We don’t know what is going to happen with other clubs and anything can happen
“We want to be there come August and September.”
Edmonds said they had a really strong squad across all their grades
Edmonds said it was nice to have a week off before facing Bacchus Marsh this week
Bacchus Marsh suffered a 61-21 loss to Sebastopol

Heath Pritchard will coach Melton South for the rest of the Ballarat Football League season
The winless Panthers sacked co-coach Ash Manning earlier this week
with fellow co-coach Brendan Fevola stepping down into an assistant coaching role
Acting Panthers president Matthew Collins said it had been a hard decision to part ways with Manning
“We thought we were heading in different directions
We didn’t see eye to eye on a number of things
Manning told the Ballarat Courier he felt harshly done by
He was in his first year as senior coach at the club
having previously played in the club’s only premiership
I’ve been working my absolute backside off,” he told The Courier
but in my opinion I’ve worked my backside off to try and make the club better
“I think the club had to go backwards in some respects before it could go forward
we had to get a lot of things right that the club had wrong.”
Collins said timing constraints were behind the decision by Fevola to step down to an assistant role
The gun full forward has played just one game this year due to an achilles injury
Collins said he would miss the next few weeks as he continued to struggle with that injury
he didn’t have The Footy Show commitments,” he said
“It was taking up a lot of time along with his radio show and it makes it hard for him to get to the ground.”
The club didn’t waste anytime in appointing a new coach with Heath Pritchard named coach for the rest of the season
Pritchard took training on Tuesday night and Collins said they were impressed with first impressions
“We are hopeful that we can turn things around
We’re not going into it expecting things to turn around in one week
“We are confident that Heath can do the job.”
Pritchard said he knows he has a challenge ahead of him for the rest of the season as he tries to help the side rise up the ladder
The new coach played his junior football at the Panthers and was on the committee for a number of years
“It’s disappointing for Ash to leave in the manner he has,” Pritchard said
“I’ll try and push the club together and build on what Ash has been doing with the club and hopefully we’ll get a few wins
“To be fair to Ash he could have had a few wins on the board
Pritchard brings vast football experience into the role
He’s been a runner at VFL side Port Melbourne for the last six years
is president and coaches one of the junior sides at Eynesbury Eagles Football Club and is also on the AFL Goldfields commission
He said he would take a recess from the commission
but would continue in his roles at the Eagles
Pritchard said he would bring a lot of what he learnt at Port Melbourne into the role
“I’ve been lucky to have worked with Gary Ayres for six years,” he said
“He encouraged me to take on this coaching role
“To have someone like him prepared to help me in any away he can is helpful.”
Former Panthers coach Matthew Sutton will be an assistant coach for the rest of the season
Melton South’s players are hitting the track hard in their bid to climb up the Ballarat Football League ladder
After a season that included one win and finishing last
the Panthers know there is a lot of work ahead of them
Coach Heath Pritchard is in his first pre-season at the club
having taken over as coach midway through last season
He says the pre-season is going well and numbers on the track are pleasing
with the training intensity coming as something of a shock to the players
“We’ve had the likes of 40 to 50 on the track,” Pritchard said
The feedback is that it’s harder than in the past
we were up to our eyeballs at three-quarter time before falling away
Clubs will have to work hard for four quarters to beat Melton South.”
Pritchard said the Panthers would be selective on the recruitment front
only adding players who filled certain needs
The first of those recruits is former Carlton big man Paul Bower
joins the Panthers having played a key role for Deer Park in helping it win a sixth straight Western Region Football League division 1 premiership
Pritchard said the club was thrilled to get Bower
who would add some extra height into the squad – something it missed last season
“We were determined to bring some height into the side and he’s in a good age bracket
He’s pretty fit and can run through the midfield as well
Bower is the only definite signing for the Panthers
Having commuted from Queensland to play this year
he’s chosen to stay and play in Queensland next year
and another former AFL player in Farren Ray have also moved on
Connor Charge and Dylan Clarke have moved to Melton Centrals
Marc Dransman will coach the Melton South reserves
Travis Chapman will again assist Pritchard
while Dale Houghton will be a playing assistant coach
MELTON SOUTH residents now have a new way of getting around their locality after bus operator Transit Systems launched its Bridj-powered on-demand Flexiride Melton South app and service there
booked a trip with the Flexiride Melton South app – from Melton Station to Melton Bus Interchange
experiencing the convenience of leaving the car behind and getting from A to B and beyond
Bridj-sourced Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) Technology underlies the Flexiride Melton South app
Situated approximately 37km north-west of the Melbourne CBD
according to 2016 Census data Melton South had a population of 11,517
Kelsian Group – which owns Transit Systems – CEO Clint Feuerherdt says the technology encourages customers to leave their car at home
providing an integrated and personal service to get to a train station
“We are pleased to deliver on-demand services to Melton South customers
who can enjoy the benefits of booking public transport to suit their personal schedule
“We recognise that a barrier to catching public transport is getting from home to the station or interchange
“We are all increasingly accustomed to using services on-demand
with in-home movie streaming and food delivery – so we take that demand-responsive concept and apply it to public transport to complete the journey,” he said
Below (L-R): Cr Goran Kesic – Mayor; Cr Bob Turner; Minister for Public Transport Ben Carroll; and Steve McGhie MP
Transit Systems uses leading technology to provide efficient and reliable services
ensuring that customers can book and travel conveniently
the Bridj technology captures customer travel preferences
including where and when they want to travel,” Feuerherdt explained
it matches customers moving in the same direction and adapts the bus routes in real-time
The outcome is more direct and tailored journeys
relative to those that could be delivered using traditional fixed route services
especially over such a large and growing area like Melton South,” he said
The Flexiride Melton South app provides users with real-time information
so customers know exactly when their service is arriving
with customers able to pay using a Victoria-use myki card
accessing the convenience of an on-demand service at the cost of a standard public transport fare
Bridj Technology CEO John Langford-Ely says he was proud to be supplying the technology that powers the Flexiride Melton South service
we want to build software that helps take cars off the road
By making bus services more appealing to more people
we envision a more sustainable and decongested future where dynamic shuttle and bus transport is everyone’s first choice,” Langford-Ely said
we have developed and deployed innovative solutions alongside the Transit Systems team across Australia and Singapore
I am excited to now be supporting their expansion in Melton South
which we believe will provide local residents with an excellent level of service.”
Minister Carroll says the new on-demand bus service would connect locals directly to railway stations
“The introduction of the Flexiride Melton South will provide better
more flexible bus services with direct access to key destinations in Melton South,” the Minister stated
“There are four new buses ready to connect customers to key destination hubs such as Cobblebank Station
Melton Bus Interchange and schools in Melton South
“The app will prioritise connections with trains at both Cobblebank and Melton Stations to ensure customers have smooth
easy access to ongoing public transport options,” he said
A number of hubs within the education precinct will also mean students can safely travel to their destination and cater their travel to class timetables, Transit Systems confirms.
The extension of Flexiride follows trials in Rowville, and through Lilydale, Mooroolbark, and Croydon, it adds.
Flexiride is an initiative of the Victorian Bus Plan, improving the State’s bus network to better meet demand, improve accessibility and performance, and deliver value for money, the operator explains.
Feuerherdt adds that they were proud to be working with the Victorian Department of Transport to deliver a more optimised network for Melton South customers.
“We commend Minister Carroll on the initiative and look forward to seeing the local community enjoy the benefits of more convenient and connected public transport,” he said.
Services will operate from 6.00am to 9:30pm on weekdays, 7.00am to 9:30pm on Saturdays and 8.00am to 9:30pm on Sundays and public holidays, Transit Systems states.
Flexiride services do not have a fixed route; customers will be able to book a seat via the Flexiride Melton South app or phone, be directed to their closest bus stop – either a physical or ‘virtual stop’ – and be picked up and transported to dedicated hubs, it explains.
Bookings can be made up to seven days in advance and can be cancelled up to five minutes before the scheduled pick-up time, it confirms.
Transit Systems is part of Kelsian Group Limited, Australia’s largest integrated land and marine, tourism and public transport service provider with established international operations in London and Singapore, it explains.
With around 9000 employees, it is one of Australia’s most experienced and diverse multi-modal transport businesses operating around 4000 buses, 120 ferries and 24 light-rail vehicles, carrying in excess of 207 million customers with where they need to be and want to go.

Last week's one-goal win over North Ballarat was backed up by a comprehensive performance against Bacchus Marsh
The Devils never let up in a blistering four-quarter performance

But it was the midcourt turnovers that really made the different with Darley conceding just 29 shots at goal for the entire match

The final match played on Saturday evening saw a 23-23 draw between East Point and Sebastopol

Construction is under way on the newest school helping cater for Melton South’s booming population growth
St Lawrence of Brindisi – a new Catholic primary school opening in the Weir Views estate at the start of next year – will be led by Bill Hill
a principal with an extensive track record across schools in Australia and the United Kingdom
Mr Hill identified building strong community partnerships as one of his most important jobs
reflecting his belief that active involvement of the community has a great impact on the culture and educational outcomes of a school
“St Lawrence will be a place of welcome and nurture; a school where every face has a place and is valued,” he said
“Wellbeing will be a critical component in life of the school
when they are listened to and respected as unique individuals shaped as God intended
they are far more likely to enjoy school and experience success.”
The opportunity to develop a school culture from ground up was a key attraction for Mr Hill taking on the role
He said he will be looking for engaging and passionate teachers who will build nurturing relationships with children and their families
Mr Hill recently visited the site where construction has begun on the school’s $6 million first stage
featuring nine learning areas including a multi-purpose space for specialist visual arts or STEM learning and before and after school care
Works are due for completion by mid-December
will be part of the Parish of St Anthony of Padua and will work closely with sister school St Anthony’s Primary School

Matthew Collins may have become the first player to play 400 games for the Melton South Football Club on Saturday but he
was more excited to see the new-look senior side
who is already the club’s games record holder
stepped out for the Panthers in their reserves win against Melton and then watched on as the Panthers seniors
“I don’t know how I feel about playing 400 games,” Collins
“I’m more excited for the upcoming season for the club
“There was a lot of excitement when the club won the 1994 senior premiership
It was exciting around the finals as we knew something special could happen
but I’ve never seen a build-up to a season like this before.”
The first of Collins’ 400 games came in 1994
but he wasn’t able to break into the premiership side
He said most of his games had come in the reserves
He also led the league reserves goalkicking and won several club reserves best and fairest awards
His involvement at the Panthers started well before 1994
“It feels like I’ve been here forever,” he said
I’m not sure how many games I’ve played overall
Collins said this year will be his last season pulling on the jumper – but he also said that when he broke the club’s games record of 370
“We were battling for numbers a bit the last couple of years so I kept playing,” Collins said
“I never really thought about playing 400 games and I wasn’t going to play on this year.”
Collins finished last season with 399 games under his belt
“Everyone said you can’t give it away just one game from 400
I decided if I was going to play one game I needed to do a pre season as I would have struggled to get a kick
“[But] I wasn’t going to do a pre season for just one match.”
He has one main wish for the reserves this season
“I would like to finish up at the club on a winning note
The last four seasons we haven’t had a good win-loss record
“I’d like to win some more games this year.”

A man has been flown to hospital with serious injuries after the allegedly stolen car he was driving smashed into a tree during a police pursuit in Melton South
Police were at the scene on Exford Road investigating the crash on Monday afternoon
It is believed police tried to stop the black BMW about 11.45am on Monday
"Police activated their lights and sirens and initiated a pursuit before the car crashed into a tree," police said in a statement
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said the male driver had been airlifted to The Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition
Earlier this month, the state's senior traffic officer flagged "substantial changes" to Victoria Police's pursuit policy.
But road policing Assistant Commissioner Doug Fryer said the changes would remain secret.

But in an internal video obtained by radio station 3AW, Mr Fryer told police they could pursue for minor traffic and property offences if they could cause a serious risk to the public.
This included, he said in the video, armed offenders and criminals fleeing from aggravated burglaries and those who drive at police and ram police cars.

Former Essendon defender Tayte Pears is the latest player to join the new-look Melton South Football outfit.
Pears is the fourth former AFL player to join the Panthers during the off season, with co-coach Brendan Fevola the biggest name to join the Ballarat Football League side.
Co-coach Sean Triplett said there was excitement about what Pears could do at the club. He said Pears fielded a number of offers from other clubs before deciding on the Panthers.
Pears played 70 games for Essendon. He was one of 34 past and present Bombers players suspended last season by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
With the suspension finished, Pears decided not to return to the Bombers and instead focus on a career as a firefighter. He’s hoping to be placed at a station this year.
“I’ve had a relationship with Tayte for a while, as has Brendan,” Triplett said. “His best mate is Nick Kommer [who has also joined the Panthers]. He just wants to get back to enjoying football.
“He was stiff the last few years, with injuries, not to play more games. He just wants to get back to a relaxed environment after eight years in the AFL system.”
Triplett said Pears’ AFL experience would be a big help for the young playing group. He said that despite Pears playing most of his AFL career as a defender, they saw his best spot at the other end of the ground.
“We’ll probably look for him to play forward or in the midfield,” he said. “I’ve seen him play forward when I was a scout for Greater Western Sydney. He’s a personal trainer so he’s fit enough to play in the middle.”
The signing follows the news that Mitch Banner has committed to the club full time. He originally planned to play VFL football with Williamstown, but work commitments have prevented that.
Triplett said Banner, who played all his junior football at Melton South before being drafted, was excited about returning to the club.
The Panthers, who didn’t win a game last season, are hoping the new faces will transform them. Pears, Kommer, Banner and Fevola will be joined by Mark Lynch, brothers Adam and Mozzie Houli and former Panther Ben Peters.
The Panthers have gone to appeal to try and bring back Matt Notman, who is under contract at Melton.
The Panthers will start their season on April 8 against Melton.

He captained Broadford and was also an assistant coach before moving into the head coaching position
His other football experience includes an Outer East premiership with Yarra Junction and time with Werribee in the VFL and Mernda in the Northern league

Excitement is buzzing at Melton South after the Ballarat Football League club announced they had signed former AFL star Brendan Fevola as playing coach for next season.
The signing of Fevola, who played in a Western Region Football League premiership with Deer Park this season, is a major boost for the side which didn’t win a senior match this year.
Fevola, had been linked with the club the last two years, but only now has the timing been right.
The 35-year-old said the chance to coach a developing young side and help them build from the bottom up was the reason he took on the role.
Fevola will share the coaching duties with Sean Triplett.
“Sean is good mates with [club president] Brendan [Morrissey],” Fevola told Star Weekly.
“Last year we thought about coming across, but I wanted to play with one of my best mates who was groomsman for my wedding.
“They have won a combined seven games between the seniors and reserves in the last three years.
“We spoke with the skipper and the playing group are pretty excited. But they aren’t as excited as us and looking at their website we know they haven’t won anything [in the Ballarat FL].
Fevola said they wanted to come to a club where they could develop a list and build the team from the bottom up.
Both Deer Park and Yarrawonga, where Fevola played for four years and coached in 2015, were already successful clubs before he joined them.
“We wouldn’t have done this if they weren’t near the bottom,” he said.
“I don’t think there are many players over the age of 24. I love coaching and hopefully we can develop the young players.
“It’s something that I really wanted to do, develop a side from the bottom up.”
Since the announcement on Wednesday night, Fevola said they had been inundated with players wanting to join the club.
He said they would look at adding five or six experienced players to the squad. He said another key forward and some in and under midfielders were at the top of the list.
“We’ll bring in some top end recruits and we’ve already signed some,” he said.
“Last season we didn’t have the line up that could finish off games. We have identified a lack of experience and experienced guys will come in help with the right habits.
“Kids learn stuff off players who are of a more mature age and have been through the system before.
“We need some grunt players in the middle. I think we’ve already got some good outside mids.
“And we need another forward to help me out, I’m old and fat.”
Fevola and Triplett said they would also help out with the junior side of things and try and make sure the club came together as a whole.
“I’m still a kid myself and we’re on the same wave length,” Fevola said.”
Panthers’ president Brendan Morrissey said the reaction to the signing of Fevola had been massive and a much needed boost for the club.
He said Fevola and Triplett were aware of how big a job they had ahead of them.
“We just thought we need a playing coach,” he said.
“We’ve got a young group with local home grown talent. We thought we needed someone to be a leader for the 19-20-years-olds.
“Brendan’s interested in helping the kids and building the club and to teach the kids and hopefully bring success to the town.
“We targeted Brendan and went after him… We nearly had him last time.”
Fevola is the second ex-AFL player to be appointed to a head coaching role in the BFL for next season.
His former Carlton teammate Heath Scotland has been appointed Darley’s coach.
