after being closed for safety reasons since June 12 The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) had closed the section at the request of the City and County of Honolulu due to construction activity associated with the dismantling of the Ha‘ikū Stairs “Now that the project is tied up in litigation we wanted to restore access to the forest reserve we are asking hikers to avoid ascending long past the time students walked out of their classrooms for the day The 2013-2014 school-level Teachers of the Year were announced Sept 29 by the Newton County School System (NCSS) and the Newton County Chamber of Commerce after being selected by their peers for the designation at the end of last school year They will now participate in the county program with the dinner serving as the Newton County School System’s 2015 Teacher of the Year Nominees – one from each public school – worked on the district Teacher of the Year essay packet over the summer which required answers to questions concerning their educational background Each of the 23 teachers will sit for a 20-minute interview with a panel of volunteer judges representing NCSS local businesses and civic organizations Sept The three teachers with the highest combined scores from the essay and interview will be announced as finalists on Friday A selection committee will observe each of the three finalists in the classroom on Oct The teacher with the highest combined score on the essay interview and observation will become the Teacher of the Year during a special ceremony at Newton High School on Thursday and I thank you for your service,” said Samantha Fuhrey “The fact that you’re here is a testament to your dedication to this school system because we know there are other choices out there All 23 teachers will be recognized at the reception at Newton with two runners-up receiving a crystal vase The county-wide Teacher of the Year will receive a crystal vase a free three-month car rental from Covington Ford and $1,000 and will represent Newton County in the Georgia Teacher of the Year program “Newton County’s Teacher of the Year program would not be possible if it were not for the support of our community,” Heather Fuller After several close calls and years of floating among the courses lying just outside the Top-100 Toowoomba Golf Club at Middle Ridge finally entered the national ranking in January this year I couldn’t fault the place with very good kikuyu fairways and terrific bentgrass greens,” ranking judge Terry Anderson said “The layout is much better than what it was when I last played at Toowoomba about a decade ago including the relatively new par-4 9th hole,” added fellow judge Toby Greenwood While Top-100 ranker Joe Thomas was even more positive “With more improvements planned for the course at Toowoomba I can only see it moving deeper into the Top-100 in 2025 Its conditioning alone has it well-placed among these courses that everyone can play,” he said Toowoomba Golf Club was founded in 1896 making it the second oldest club in Queensland predated only by Townsville Golf Club which opened for play three months earlier The Brisbane Golf Club was established a matter of weeks after Toowoomba hosted its first rounds The club was established by several Scottish families who were early settlers keen to recreate a piece of their golfing heritage in the heart of the Darling Downs The 21 original members laid out a nine-hole course in Harristown the club bounced around the edges of the town to different locations before settling on its current site at Middle Ridge in 1926 Sydney professional Fred Popplewell – the 1925 Australian Open Champion who would win a second national title three years later – returned from playing in The Open Championship at Royal Lytham and St Annes in England to assist with the design of the new course A newspaper report in May 1926 under the small headline “The course has architectural features which experts state is possessed by no other inland links in Australia Its chief charms are the variety which the holes offer and the views of imposing grandeur that can be had from the clubhouse and it various points on the course “The project has been conceived on a grand scale and the club intends to spare no expense in converting the course into one that will make an Australian-wide appeal.” It took 96 years but Toowoomba’s layout is finally gaining its wider appeal Much of that appeal comes on the back of improved presentation in recent years as well as course design changes and the early stages of a tree removal program that has made the layout strategically a better golfing experience It has certainly progressed from the course experienced by the likes of famed players including Bobby Locke Greg Norman and Peter Senior in years gone by Toowoomba’s turning point came just a handful of years ago when the club entered into an agreement to lease some of its land – incorporating the green site and approach on the 9th hole – to Aura Holdings for the construction of a retirement living development the club now has the funding to take their course to the next level Course superintendent Mick Kelly and his team – with advice from Brisbane-based designer Brett Mogg – spent much of the first year of the pandemic building a redesigned 9th hole transforming it into what is now a very good short par-4 that can be played a variety of ways which plays along the southern boundary of the course has been redesigned with a new green complex “There were two old bunkers on the left and an old bunker on the right that was about 40 metres short of the green The putting surface had a lot of disease in it,” Toowoomba General Manager “We took some trees out and reshaped the fairway and green so water would run off the green and around the new bunker and not into it We chose to do the 13th hole (after the 9th hole rebuild) because it was a good example of how we would have to do fairways reshaped greens and greenside bunkers elsewhere across the course.” The new revetted face bunkering here is a departure from Toowoomba’s traditional sand pushed-up-the-face style and Kelly’s team has done a beautiful job on these new sandy hazards With the revetted face bunkering ‘experiment’ success on the 13th came remodelled bunkers on the par-5 10th and the recently opened par-3 3rd hole despite generally being smaller than the older bunkers they have been shaped with a catchment area around them just like you would find on any of the great links courses of Britain and Ireland it shouldn’t come as any real surprise that there are about 11,500 trees scattered across the Toowoomba course there are 8,000 gums dominating the landscape camphor laurels and a variety of other trees filling out the edges of most holes “The original improvement plan was based on bunkers we’re taking into consideration the green surfaces and we’re also talking about which trees might need to come down for reasons of safety as well as the quality of the turf and how the course plays,” Marr says An ongoing tree management program will undoubtedly improve the enjoyment of a round here There are some tight driving holes – the dogleg left 4th and the dogleg right 5th holes being prime examples – where being accurate Get your drive too high here and you risk hitting into the canopy of the gums overhanging the fairway Toowoomba’s new holes were a highlight for me especially the 13th with its width from the tee and the wide which only opened for play at the end of January The downhill tee shot over the lake to the green on the par-3 7th is a short iron for most but it still strikes fear into seasoned golfers Hitting uphill towards the two-tiered green on the short par-5 17th is a real test of nerve and club selection skill with out-of-bounds to be found long of the green The kikuyu fairways really thrive in the Darling Downs climate while the Penncross bentgrass greens would be the envy of many private city clubs with much bigger maintenance budgets I came away from Toowoomba in total agreeance with our Top-100 judge Joe Thomas – higher accolades are on the horizon for this outstanding The line is the root and the architecture the same as the word. The tree, as the rising child. The architecture is the border of living. Living between inside and outside. Each element is a term that, when collocates with others, creates a sentence of space. Mid-ridge Villa has been settled between a slender but prosperous garden in the heart of the farmlands, for a family of three who is always gathering. A twelve-year-old child, the climax of the story, and her rebellious spirit, along with her constant training to become a professional swimmer and her occasional desire for isolation and privacy, has been at the center of her parent's attention and then the architects’. © Ali GorjianAll these borders created the Mid-Ridge. Gaps do not always interpret the distance, sometimes they add flexibility to the mass and create cozy corners of solitude. This feature can be looked at in the gaps that have been appeared in the public zone of the building, consequently dividing the portion and creating more space to accommodate habitants. © Ali GorjianThe juxtaposition of the brick volumes in a hidden zone seeks to honor the authentic quality of natural materials and highlights the relationship between human beings and nature over time Mid-ridge villa is made of ochre brick that complements the palette of the landscape: blue sky You'll now receive updates based on what you follow Personalize your stream and start following your favorite authors If you have done all of this and still can't find the email Wallaby Rd and Middle Ridge Rd in Ourimbah State Forest have been closed indefinitely to the public following ongoing issues in the area Protection supervisor at NSW Forestry Corporation said longstanding problems at the forest included dumping burnt cars and serious environmental impact causing degradation of local waterways “To protect our environment and forest infrastructure we are closing Wallaby Rd and Middle Ridge Rd to the public indefinitely “Barriers will be established to restrict access and help protect the values of Ourimbah State Forest.” The closure means that Wallaby Rd and Middle Ridge Rd will be closed to all types of vehicles and motorbikes Public access to Ourimbah State Forest will continue to be provided along Red Hill Rd or through Jilliby State Conservation Area along Forest Rd It is one of the state forests in the Watagan Mountains which has won numerous tourism awards for adventure tourism including Central Coast Mountain Bike Tours and TreeTop Adventure Park and Central Coast Mountain Bike Club operates biking trails under a Forest Permit arrangement The area has been harvested for timber in regrowth forests for more than 100 years I travel on the new trains daily from Woy Woy to Central and vice versa I love the new trains apart from (the fact) they are absolutely freezing Ettalong Memorial Bowling Club in Springwood St have both submitted revised plans to Central Coast Council for significant improvements… Humpty Dumpty Foundation has sprung into action to help Central Coast Local Health District provide seven breast pumps for its midwifery and Aboriginal health services Click here for Administration Daily SchedulesBell Schedule AttendanceReport a student absent/tardy/early dismissal via ParentVue or call (540) 751-2522 Attendance Information Enroll a Student: Contact Monzella Mallory, Registrar, by email for registration appointments and questions Creating a safe and supportive learning environment to promote behavioral and academic success Visit our Parent Teacher Organization Page to learn more about PTOs support of Blue Ridge students and staff & to find out how you can get involved Principal Brion Bell551 E A StPurcellville, VA 20132(540)751-2520 Click here for Administration Daily SchedulesBell Schedule AttendanceReport a student absent/tardy/early dismissal via ParentVue or call (540) 751-2522 Attendance Information Enroll a Student: Contact Monzella Mallory, Registrar, by email for registration appointments and questions Main Office: (540) 751-2520Main Office Hours: 8:00 a.m Visit our Parent Teacher Organization Page to learn more about PTOs support of Blue Ridge students and staff & to find out how you can get involved School-based staff, check your email for the survey link and submit your responses today! public health safety and welfare; protection of property; and for management activities,” said DLNR in a news release “The City and County of Honolulu has jurisdiction over the stairs and since announcing the structure will be dismantled there has been an uptick in hiker traffic on Middle Ridge.” Due to recent citations of trespassers at the base of the stairs people have resorted to using the Middle Ridge to access the summit driving an “unprecedented increase in traffic to this sensitive watershed.” “DLNR officials are taking these actions to prevent people from getting injured while attempting to access the stairs from the hazardous ridgeline,” said the state agency “Foresters are also concerned about the ecological damage hikers are doing to this sensitive native forest.” The closure includes parts of the Honolulu Watershed Forest Reserve bound by the Kulanaʻahane Trail to the north Kamananui Valley Road and an unofficial trail known as Waolani to the south and the Koolau summit ridgeline to the east Signs about the closure have been posted on impacted trails and hikers caught using them could be cited The Kulanaʻahane Trail and Kamananui Valley Road The project has made a roundabout at the intersection of Myrtle Ridge Drive and Myrtle Ridge Avenue This is where many drive to access the CVS and Walmart NEW: Crews respond to residential fire near Surfside Beach Officials said the goal of the new route is to give drivers an alternative route to Highway 501 and reduce travel congestion in the Conway and Carolina Forest areas Horry County officials said they will have further updates on progress made to the new traffic pattern Investigative stories and local news updates Coverage of the Hawaiʻi State legislature in 2025 Award winning in-depth reports and featured on-going series Get the week’s news delivered straight to your inbox led to the city’s and state’s joint decision to close another access point leading to Haiku Stairs Moanalua Valley Neighborhood Park at the back of Moanalua Valley will close as the city’s contractor continues to dismantle the Haiku Stairs It’s an expansion of the closure that the state instituted last month for the same reason a World War II-era installation that climbs a ridge from Kaneohe to the top of the Koolau mountain range lured hikers for decades to its sweeping vistas over much of the Windward Coast Accessing the stairs has been illegal for much of that time. Honolulu mayors have had different opinions on what to do about them, including former Mayor Kirk Caldwell’s plan to institute managed access. But liability concerns, plus neighbors who complained about noisy and littering hikers, led Mayor Rick Blangiardi in 2021 to decide to remove the stairs Many hikers continued to access the summit legally by going up the other side of the mountain range through Moanalua Valley Neighborhood Park the state Department of Land and Natural Resources closed that summit trail “It has become increasingly clear that dozens of hikers have ignored the partial closure,” DLNR Chair Dawn Chang said in a joint news release by the mayor’s office and the state DLNR The city has jurisdiction over Moanalua Valley Neighborhood Park and the state has jurisdiction over the trails that lead farther into the valley “The popularity of the Middle Ridge ‘social trail’ has created large erosion scars and the route is inherently unsafe and damaging to the native forest Adding in active helicopter operations exacerbates unsafe conditions and law enforcement will arrest or cite anyone who violates the closure,” the news release says Moanalua Valley Neighborhood Park will remain closed for the duration of the stairs’ removal The Friends of Haiku Stairs filed two lawsuits against the stairs’ removal over the past year. A judge decided against them on the first lawsuit, and while the second lawsuit is ongoing, a different judge allowed the city to proceed with removing the stairs in May Unfortunately, being named a finalist for a Pulitzer prize doesn’t make us immune to financial pressures. A map of the True Grit and Middle Ridge North properties: ** Denotes mineral claim ownership expired and claims will be eligible for acquisition at a later date The True Grit property is located in south central Newfoundland and consists of 614 mineral claims covering approximately 153.5 km² (15,350 Ha) The property is accessible by traveling north from the town of Bay d'Espoir on the Bay d'Espoir Highway for 12 km where the highway transects the property A 3-phase powerline runs 350 meters to the south of the property The project lays within the Exploits Sub Zone which is underlain by siliciclastic rocks of the St Joseph's Cove Formation is comprised of siltstone sandstone and conglomerate with minor quartz sericite schists thought to represent altered felsic tuffs Historical till surveys resulted in numerous high gold grain counts (Pickett 1990) which led to the discovery by Teck Resources of the two True Grit mineralized zones The True Grit #1 showing is a 2 m wide zone of quartz-chlorite veining in rusty sericitic and chloritic siltstone with up to 5% disseminated arsenopyrite and minor pyrite The mineralization appears to exploit brittle fractures in the centre of a small antiformal fold within siltstone The average grade of channel sampling within the zone is 7.3 g/t Au over 0.69 m over a strike length of approximately 8 m The highest grade channel sample was 15.6 g/t Au over 1 m from the northern portion of the zone Grab samples up to 30.2 g/t Au were reported (Pickett The showing also lies within a 2.6 km long by 0.8 km wide coincident Au-As-Sb- in-soil anomaly The True Grit #2 showing occurs 1.2 km to the south of the True Grit #1 showing Trenching by Teck Resources in 1990 exposed a 50 m wide by 175 m long zone of gold mineralization grading up to 0.48 g/t Au over 47 m in altered pelites/metaturbidites with 1-3% disseminated pyrite-pyrrhotite-arsenopyrite and 18 g/t Au over 0.5 m and 6.5 g/t Au over 0.5 m A grab sample of the arsenopyrite bearing quartz vein assayed 9.6 g/t Au Cornerstone joint ventured the property to Moydow Mines International who carried out several phases of drilling in 2003/2004 The best intersection was obtained in hole TG4 which returned 0.60 g/t Au over 117 m including a 26 m wide section grading 0.83 g/t Au Intersections ranging from 16 to 46 m wide with grades of 0.45 to 0.75 g/t Au were encountered in holes TG3 was drill tested to depths of between 120 and 35 m vertically Portions of the drilled area have steep isoclinal folding accompanied by arsenopyrite mineralization True Grit #2 also occurs within the same 2.6 km by 0.8 km gold-arsenic-antimony soil geochemical anomaly which hosts True Grit #1 Results of the drilling were interpreted to show that there are broad swathes of 0.5 g/t Au material in essentially stratabound packets with a predominantly east or southerly dip Recommendations by Cornerstone for future work in the area included geochemical and ground/airborne geophysical programs to better define drill targets The mineralization in the True Grit area is known to be associated with coincident gold-arsenic-antimony in soil anomalies and geophysics may help identify any structural features that may host or control mineralization Follow-up work also needs to be done in order to source the highly anomalous concentrations of gold The Middle Ridge North property is located in central Newfoundland and consists of 1,024 mineral claims covering approximately 256 km² (25,600 Ha) The property is accessible by traveling south from the town of Bishop's Falls on the Bay d'Espoir Highway for 75 km where the property can be accessed by a network of forest service roads The property encompasses 40 kilometers of the northernmost end of the Gander River Ultra Mafic Belt (GRUB) offset regional structure which is thought to be very important in the mobilization and concentration of gold mineralization in the area The property is 82 km south of the late 2019 New Found Gold Corp which returned a diamond drill hole with 92.86 g/t Au over 19.0 meters near surface (See New Found Gold Corp and lies within similar geological and structural domains The property straddles a significant structure within the Dunnage Zone called the Gander River Ultra Mafic Belt (GRUB) a regional scale trans-compressional thrust fault marked by a discontinuous belt of ophiolitic rocks (O'Neil and Blackwood 1989) that forms the south easternmost boundary of the Exploits Subzone The GRUB Line is believed to be a potential conduit for deep seated fluid flow and a pathway for the transportation of gold bearing fluids This structure is spatially associated with significant gold deposition across the belt focused in secondary and tertiary structural splays from the GRUB Line which is hosted in the Silurian siliciclastic sediments of the Exploits Subzone trends NE-SW and is mapped by the Newfoundland Geological Survey as being Cambrian to Ordovician submarine mafic to felsic volcanics Local gabbroic sills are known to intrude all units in the area and may prove as an additional target model as some sills are locally associated with gold occurrences in the region (Evans Northwest of the Middle Ridge South property is the Mount Peyton Intrusive Suite a large Siluro-Devonian batholith and potential heat source There are numerous fine to medium grained intrusive gabbroic bodies related to the Mount Peyton Intrusive Suite that intrude adjacent to the Dog Bay Line (the north westernmost extent of the Exploits Subzone) the Company may acquire a 100-per-cent interest in the properties by issuing an aggregate of 7,000,000 common shares A 2.0-per-cent net smelter return royalty (NSR) on license 022031M of which the Company shall have the right to purchase
