Morley Stanwood's Matty Kozuch reacts after making the catch against Lakeview on Saturday.
Laney Bongard delivers a pitch against Lakeview on Saturday.
LEROY—Saturday’s semifinal game between Pine River and Morley Stanwood softball teams to open the three-team tournament was expected to be dramatic.
Pine River rallied to tie the game and send it to extra innings and won it on the bottom of the eighth with Kylee Mumby’s walkoff basehit for a 6-5 win. Morley Stanwood scored a run the top of the seven on Laney Bongard’s solo home run. Pine River tied the game the bottom of the seventh 4-4. An RBI groundout by Aivree Christensen gave MS a 5-4 lead the top of the eighth. An error and Mumby’s double gave the Bucks the win. They would win the tournament by beating Lakeview later in the day.
Taylor Schuberg took the pitching loss for MS. She went 7 2/3 innings. Bongard and Grayslin Walch led the Mohawks with two hits apiece.
Bongard went all five innings allowing four hits and three runs over five innings
Sarah Groendyke had four RBIs and two hits
Matty Kozuch and Bongard had multiple hits
“We played a good game,” Mohawk coach Lauren Darling said
We strung a lot of hits together in the second day.”
“We did really well as a team overall,” Schuberg said

The Ellenbrook Line will provide people in Perth’s growing north-eastern suburbs more transport choice
At 21-kilometres long with five new stations
the line is the city’s largest public transport project
connecting people from Ellenbrook to Bayswater and the CBD
The project is part of the METRONET program
Perth’s largest investment in public transport
our local team has supported the Public Transport Authority (PTA) and METRONET on the project across all stages
including the business case and engineering and land use study
We also worked on the detailed engineering design in a joint venture with Jacobs for the MELconnx Alliance (consisting of PTA and Laing O’Rourke)
accessibility and collaboration guided our approach for a purposeful and people-centred design
local communities will benefit from shorter commute times to work and education
less congestion on Perth’s roads and new station-based community spaces
the precincts around each station will shape vibrant communities with access to more housing
To develop the project’s concept design
Western Australia’s State Government and local councils in a series of option development workshops
we co-designed objectives to guide the concept design
reduced congestion and integrated transport
and explored over 100 possible design options
We then collaborated with Coniglio Ainsworth Architects and Place Laboratory on the concept design
we combined the workshop outputs with our outputs from the project’s ‘Infrastructure Australia Business Case in the form of the Engineering and Land Use Planning study’ (ELUP) to create one concept design encompassing all design objectives. Throughout the workshops and ELUP process
we formed a strong relationship with METRONET
allowing our team to help shape the project and develop the best solution for the community
For the detailed design stage, our digital engineering team created data-rich building information models (BIM) to provide timely design updates
Each model was designed to the highest level of BIM development for construction
and in compliance with the ISO19650 BIM framework and PTA’s BIM and asset management standards
This approach provided a detailed and constructible 3D representation and guaranteed design compliance with industry regulations
We created a common data environment (CDE) to share timely design updates with Laing O’Rourke
Each project collaborator could access this single source of truth to track progress
conduct 3D design reviews and communicate changes
Following PTA’s digital delivery strategy
we integrated comprehensive asset information for over 30,000 assets into our BIM models and integrated this information with PTA’s asset management system
This approach facilitated efficient asset tracking during construction
ensuring streamlined operations and effective asset lifecycle management
the precincts around each station will shape vibrant communities
accessibility and collaboration guided our approach for a purposeful

As the founder and creative director of Tiny Disco, an advertising and content agency she runs alongside her husband, Stuart, Morley knows it’s character that drives any story – even your property search.
“I knew I wanted something that had a lot of character,” says Morley.
Morley and her husband were searching for a home for their young family that would grow with them through various life stages, while being close to work and school. They eventually found their dream home in Melbourne’s Windsor, but at first glance Morley almost dismissed it.
“This one came up online and I was like ‘that’s not the one’, but my husband still went to check it out – then he came home and was like ‘I think you need to see it’,” explains Morley.
After being convinced to inspect the house, Morley’s tune quickly changed – she could see the four-bedroom home’s potential. While the interiors of the Edwardian home were dated, the period charm of the building – from the ornate ceiling roses to stained-glass bay windows – was impossible to resist. “It just felt like it was meant to be our house,” she says.
The Morleys have now lived in their home for two and a half years and have drastically changed the look and feel of the property, doing most of the work themselves.
“The house really is the complete polar opposite to what it was when we bought it,” says Morley. “The interiors were dark, there was deep red carpet everywhere, really dark red curtains, the house needed a bit of a revamp.”
One thing saved this reno to ensure it was done in four months
Inside comedian Dave Hughes’ much-loved family home in St Kilda
It wasn't the plan, but this couple built a home from scratch
Morley’s approach was to strip the home back to basics. “The first day we got the keys I got a Stanley knife and just started ripping up all the carpet, my husband freaked out and I was like there’s no way we’re not going to have these original floorboards,” explains Morley, who then restored them.
Saying goodbye to the burgundy walls came next with the only paint colour that had the chops to give this home a fresh start – white. “My mum always taught me once you get in a space and live in it you just want to splash it with white so you can see how the space lives.”
There was one exception to this all-white rule – the kitchen, which Morley painted pink. “Pink is my joy colour. I have a setting on Marketplace for pink or pastel furniture – it’s a problem!” she confesses.
“We couldn’t afford to renovate the kitchen, so one weekend I painted the kitchen pink and installed new handles.”
Morley’s love of pink extends to a pink marble dinner table (which she jokingly refers to as her “third child”), and even Tiny Disco’s brand colour is pink.
A self-proclaimed “DIY girl”, Morley has given new life to the bathrooms with a low-key makeover, in which she painted the tiles and updated the fixtures.
Other previous updates include updating the garden and one of the family’s favourite rooms, “the library” (which also moonlights as a spare room for visiting relatives and work-from-home office space). This room, replete with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, is filled with the family’s book collection – and while it has no Dewey Decimal System in place, books are regularly borrowed from its shelves by friends and loved ones.
“It was my dream to have a library and it’s honestly the thing that I saw and fell in love instantly – this big beautiful, huge room with shelves,” explains Morley. “I want to be an old woman surrounded by my books, and every night the kids run into the room and choose their books to read.”
For Morley, a home isn’t just the walls of a structure; it’s people and memories that live within it. “I’m big on the people and my children, and having their drawings on the walls, conversations around the table and creating this atmosphere of living,” she says.
.css-cpa16r{margin-left:12px;-webkit-transform:rotate(180deg) translateY(1px);-ms-transform:rotate(180deg) translateY(1px);transform:rotate(180deg) translateY(1px);}“I am not a perfect show home person, I really like seeing a little bit of mess or Texta on the table after my kids have done a really beautiful picture, I think that adds to so much to the home.”
And of course, someone in Morley’s profession, she’s big on creating a mood. You can expect the windows open all summer, candles flickering all winter, and the family playlist humming in the background – always.

Morley Stanwood's Aiden Miles fires a throw to firse base against Lakeview.
LEROY – Morley Stanwood’s baseball team scored just enough ruins to take first-place honors on Saturday at the Pine River Invitational.
The Mohawks defeated Pine River in the first game of the three-team round-robin format 9-1 but then lost to Lakeview 4-3. Pine River edged Lakeview 6-4.
Morley Stanwood, 4-8 overall, won the tie breaker for fewer runs allowed, five. Pine River allowed 13 and Lakeview gave up nine.
The Mohawks erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth against Pine River to open the tournament. The Mohawks had nine hits with two apiece for Devin Garbow, Bo Slavens and Cody Mollette. Garbow had a double.
Garbow was the winning pitcher, going all six innings and striking out six batters while allowing only four hits.
In the second game against Lakeview, the Mohawks were held to four hits, as was Lakeview but Morley Stanwood committed five defensive errors compared to none for the Wildcats. Anthony Balsitis had two hits for the Mohawks while Slaven had a hit and two RBIs. Garbow also had an RBI. Quin Garrett and Slavens both had doubles.
“They got out to a lead and we tied it up and had a couple of throwing errors that hurt us
We wound up (ending the game) with a runner on second
The two teams will be seeing a lot of each other this week
They are at Lakeview on Monday for a doubleheader and then host the Wildcats on Wednesday
Jayden Phillips and Ethan Schick did the pitching for the Mohawks
Freiberg allowed three runs on four hits the first three innings
“I think we’re getting better hitting wise,” Phillips said
“We had a few errors at the end that hurt us.”

As the NRL launch its high-tackle crackdown
a pep talk from Adrian Morley and reassuring words from coach Trent Robinson have steeled the Sydney Roosters for Friday’s showdown with South Sydney
Clubs were emailed on Monday with an official warning after a review of last week’s games prompted the NRL to admit four players should have been sin-binned for on-field offences
NRL head of elite competitions Graham Annesley told clubs “several incidents of foul play in round four where on-field action by match officials fell short of the policy that has been in place for several seasons … clubs should expect the required standard to be implemented throughout the remainder of the season.”
Annesley added that “increased incidence of shoulder-to-head contact by defenders” was of particular concern
But as his team prepared for their Allianz Stadium clash with the Rabbitohs
Robinson insisted he wanted his players to retain a “red mist” mentality

As the NRL launch , a pep talk from Adrian Morley and reassuring words from coach Trent Robinson have steeled the Sydney Roosters for Friday’s showdown with South Sydney.
Clubs were emailed on Monday with an official warning after a review of last week’s games prompted the NRL to admit four players should have been sin-binned for on-field offences.
In the email, NRL head of elite competitions Graham Annesley told clubs “several incidents of foul play in round four where on-field action by match officials fell short of the policy that has been in place for several seasons … clubs should expect the required standard to be implemented throughout the remainder of the season.”
Annesley added that “increased incidence of shoulder-to-head contact by defenders” was of particular concern.
But as his team prepared for their Allianz Stadium clash with the Rabbitohs, Robinson insisted he wanted his players to retain a “red mist” mentality.
“We’ve always had players that play on the line and, yeah, you want them to go to that line and not over it,” Robinson said on Thursday.
“Sometimes they do, but that’s what makes them unique. So I understand that and our job is to make sure that ends up in our favour, but that’s why we’re interested in watching.”
To reinforce that message, Robinson invited club legend Morley to address the 2025 squad.
The English import was one of the most feared forwards of his era, starring in the Roosters’ 2002 premiership win, but also regularly finding himself on the sidelines due to suspension.
In six seasons at Bondi Junction, Morley was suspended 11 times. He made 113 appearances for the Tricolours and missed 26 games through suspension.
His NRL career ended prematurely in 2006 when he copped a seven-match ban for kneeing Canterbury hooker Corey Hughes. There were only six rounds left in the season.
“He talked about the red mist, as we’ve just mentioned it before,” Robinson said of Morley’s guest appearance.
“He just talked about his journey over here, his love of the Roosters and what it meant to him ... how it sort of changed his life, and then also the way that he played in the games.”
Robinson said Morley relived the Roosters’ 2002 grand final triumph against the Warriors when he upped the ante with a physical onslaught in the second half and swung the match.
“He was the one that sort of stepped forward first,” Robinson recalled.
In the absence of Victor Radley, who has a cheekbone injury, the player most likely to provide some Morley-style inspiration for the Roosters on Friday night is Spencer Leniu, who has already served one suspension for a high tackle this season and last week engaged in a running battle with Gold Coast back-rower David Fifita.
South Sydney players were hopeful this week that Leniu might concede penalties through a lack of discipline, but Robinson’s attitude is: “Let him play.”
“I’ve had to coach those guys before that are on the edge and find their way,” Robinson said.
“There’s no sitting down in an office and talking to them about how to regulate that. The more games they play, the more they experience there, they’ll know what’s right and wrong.
“But you want them to push it as well. If someone’s talking about him, then he’s had an effect, and I want him to continue to do that.”
Souths superstar Latrell Mitchell, who has been cleared to return after missing the first four games through injury, is another who can struggle to contain the “red mist”.
“Hopefully, it turns into a fog,” Robinson said with a smile.
He added that he had “huge respect” for Mitchell, who helped the Roosters win the 2018 and 2019 grand finals before his move to Redfern.
“I see him as an amazing player,” he said. “I just see him as an incredible player and he’s definitely a fullback. But he’s also an amazing centre.”

Plans were first announced for a major redevelopment of the Morley Galleria shopping centre 2013. Eleven years on, the community is losing patience at the lack of progress.
State MP for Morley, Amber-Jade Sanderson, told Nadia Mitsopoulos on ABC Radio Perth the centre was now "a shadow of its former self".
"It's tired, it is run down, there are a lot of empty shops and it is in dire need of redevelopment. It is nowhere near the standard of other shopping centres," she said.
Ms Sanderson said the shopping centre, which includes a cinema, Myer, Kmart and numerous small retail stores, and is close to the Morley Bus Station and new Morley railway station, was an important hub for the community.
"I live locally with my family and I encourage the community to use the Galleria because it's such an important employment and social centre for Morley, but it's not the amenity that the community deserves," she said.
She said it seemed like the owners had been preparing for work to commence for some time.
"They've also been so close to the redevelopment that they've closed down whole areas of the shopping centre, and it just looks like it's completely dead.
"When I go there on the weekends, the staff ask me in the shops, what is happening here?
"And my view now is if they don't start this redevelopment this year, then they should sell the asset to someone who will."
So far the only progress that has been made towards redevelopment is the relocation of a Water Corporation water compensating basin, from an area close to the cinema which is earmarked for expansion, to a section of car park next to the Morley Bus Station.
But far from providing reassurance to locals that the redevelopment is on-track, Ms Sanderson said the relocated water basin, needed to manage storm water in the catchment, caused dismay when the covering fences finally came down.
While the artist's impression of the development showed the water basin integrated with a new plaza on Russell Street to create an inviting outdoor space, she said the reality was mostly concrete.
"They invested more than $20 million in that movement, and that was a really strong indication of their commitment," Ms Sanderson said.
"But when the boards came down and the community saw what they had actually done, and I will say Water Corp are partly responsible for the aesthetic here, the community were pretty horrified by that basin.
"I met with them and was very direct, and I said this would never have been acceptable in the western suburbs, but for some reason, that was reasonable in Morley.
"The state government has provided money for a bit of beautification to soften it.
"And we need the redevelopment to work around that and make it a much more appealing amenity."
The Galleria is owned by Vicinity Centres, which owns major shopping malls around Australia.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the company said, "Vicinity Centres is working hard to meet its commitments on the revitalisation of Galleria and delivering a contemporary centre that meets the retail, entertainment and leisure needs of the community."
"Our priority is to continue to support our retailers and customers and we look forward to progressing with our planned investment in the future of Galleria."
Ms Sanderson said she had spoken to Vicinity on numerous occasions asking for a clear timeframe for the redevelopment to start.
"There's no question that COVID fundamentally changed the construction market, but this has been on the cards since 2013, six years before the pandemic, and they failed to make any meaningful progress," she said.
"We know that there's a challenged construction environment, but there are a number of ways to manage that.
"The community has run out of patience. The promises seem empty.
"We are calling on them to either show that commitment and start the redevelopment or sell it to someone who will."
Listeners to ABC Radio Perth agreed the centre needed to refreshed.
Shane: "I went to Morley Galleria last year, was shocked to see a "ghost town" like experience. Many empty shops or vinyl wrap covered ones — feel for workers there."
Cam: "I went to the Galleria to meet a friend last month on a Saturday … as soon as I walked in the door, the silence was jarring. Then, when I went to the top floor, everything was boarded up except a cafe, a sports shoe store, and a second-hand bookshop. Incredibly sad as it was such a beautiful, shiny shopping centre when it first opened.
Jenny: "I live in Bayswater and the Galleria is my local. It serves its purpose and in spite of it still looking from the early 1990s I love to visit and support it, but it does deserve some love."

Luke Morley has released his second single
‘Natural High,’ from his forthcoming album
‘Walking On Water,’ alongside a vibrant new music video
This uplifting track encapsulates the sheer joy of being alive strolling down a sunlit street with a catchy tune in your head
the upbeat song is a nice escape into a world where everything feels just right
The single arrives ahead of the highly anticipated album ‘Walking On Water,’ set for release on August 1
which was praised by Rushonrock as their Red Hot Track of the Week
“Walking On Water’s drenched in authenticity.”
Luke shares his inspiration for ‘Natural High,’ saying
“‘Natural High’ is the first song I wrote for the album and it’s extremely simple which is why I knew it had to be a single
The sun was out for the first time in weeks
so I went for a walk along the seafront in Brighton where I live
and everyone had a smile on their face for a change
We are weather obsessed over here and you can actually feel people’s moods shift when it’s warm and the skies are clear
‘Natural High’ is all about feeling that collective buzz we get in the sunshine when just for a moment things don’t seem quite so bad!”
Luke is preparing for a UK tour and is looking forward to performing live
“I took a bit of persuading to tour with the last album as I wasn’t sure whether I’d enjoy the role of lead singer and frontman but once I’d come to terms with doing it my own way
I really enjoyed it so there’s no hesitation with this album; I can’t wait!”

Any hope of a return to the glory days of Morley Galleria have all but disappeared as plans for a multimillion-dollar redevelopment of the shopping centre appear abandoned
Four years since Victoria-based Vicinity Centres announced a deferral of the $350 million expansion
locals and members of parliament are demanding answers

half empty shopping centre.Credit: Facebook
City of Bayswater Mayor Filomena Piffaretti took to social media on Wednesday to lash co-owners Vicinity and Perron Group for their inaction
I have made it a priority to engage with the Galleria owners and encourage swift redevelopment,” she said
“I have respected the confidentiality of those discussions and have tried to work with the owners
I no longer have faith in Vicinity’s promises nor in their ability to actually deliver any redevelopment.”
She went on further to accuse Vicinity of “neglecting” the shopping centre and its long-term tenants and loyal customers
“Vicinity continues to ignore the impact on our community of a run-down
half-empty shopping centre at our doorstep,” she said
with one commenting; “It makes absolutely no sense why Vicinity is letting what was once a bustling
beloved city hub turn into a practically empty building”
“It’s so sad seeing all the local businesses I’ve grown up with in Morley closing up shop or relocating … it’s time for them to pass Galleria on to a company that will actually make it what it deserves to be,” the commenter continued

The push for Vicinity to sell the property is being led by Morley MP Amber-Jade Sanderson after she started a petition titled; “Start it or sell it”
I remember how much our town centre changed when the Morley Galleria first opened,” she said
“It was a fantastic new facility in 1988 [to the final stage built in 1994]
but has not been upgraded to meet the needs of our growing community in 2024.”
A spokesperson for Vicinity Centres said while the retail property group remained committed to the revitalisation it was unable to confirm a start date
“Vicinity Centres is working hard to meet its commitments on the revitalisation of Galleria and delivering a contemporary centre that meets the retail
entertainment and leisure needs of the community,” they said
“Our priority is to continue to support our retailers and customers and we look forward to progressing with our planned investment in the future of Galleria.”

London
What’s the most London-y thing you can think of
it’s not red double-deckers, or Big Ben
And it’s not Perello olives or Lime bikes either
Now, Morley’s is going to be officially inducted into the London hall of fame, as the sign from the original chicken shop will go in display at the new London Museum (FKA the Museum of London) when it reopens at its new site in 2026.
the London Museum has acquired the sign from the first Morley’s that opened in Sydenham in the ‘80s
It will become part of the new museum’s Hanging Out display
celebrating the places London’s communities come together
Founded in 1985 by Sri Lankan-born Kannalingam ‘Indran’ Selvendran – who moved to London from his native Colombo in the 1970s – Morley’s has grown from a single south London shop into a full chain
now with outposts all over the city and elsewhere
including Brighton and Milton Keynes. It has remained a family business
with Selvendran’s son Shan taking over as managing director in 2009.
chief executive of Morley’s said: ‘Ever since our beginnings as a small family-run shop
it was always my father’s dream to make Morley’s a household name
Through his passion for community and flavour
he built a loyal presence in south London - laying the foundation for where we are today
‘Although his unexpected passing meant he wasn't here to see just how far we've grown
Dad’s vision lives on – and it means the world to see our story being recognised by London Museum
Morley’s means so much to so many people – as part of their own lives and heritage
so this moment is also for everyone who has been a part of that journey.’

LondonThe singers were on wonderfully expressive form for this performance of Hugo Wolf’s song cycle – one of music’s great disquisitions on the nature of love
a sequence of brief vignettes (“little things”
they are called in the opening song) that gradually coalesces into one of music’s great disquisitions on the nature of love
who fashion tales and dramas from the collection by reordering and restructuring it
they simply gave us the songs in the published order – still the best approach to the work
which ultimately dispenses with narrative and forges coherence and unity from juxtapositions of music by turns ecstatic
meanwhile between Morley’s bright soprano and Montague Rendall’s silky-smooth baritone served as a reminder that the two singers effectively inhabit different emotional territory
All this gives the Liederbuch its own internal sense of drama
sounded exquisite in Auch kleine Dinge at the start
was tellingly poised between tenderness and mockery in Wie lange schon
and reeled off her catalogue of lovers with gleeful abandon in the final Ich hab’ in Penna einen Liebsten
was all intense introspection and passionate restraint
with its hovering vocal line and shifting but narrow dynamic range
passed from rapt contemplation to near insanity
perhaps of Wolf’s own mental collapse shortly after completing his Liederbuch
So much happens in the piano in this music
and Martineau probed every figuration and emotional shift with great finesse
The only encore – and the evening’s only actual duet – was Bei Männern from Mozart Die Zauberflöte

They needed extra holes but Dylan Knox and Justin Morley have kept alive their hopes of a maiden Pampling Plate victory in an enthralling day of matchplay competition at Caboolture Golf Club
Both Knox and Morley finished outside the top eight Associates who received a first round bye on Tuesday morning so endured a gruelling day before booking their place in the quarter-finals on Wednesday morning
Knox accounted for Jordan Hampson 5&4 in Round 1 as Morley recorded a dominant 7&6 win over Ben Scholl
The afternoon matches would go beyond the 18 regulation holes as Damon Stephenson and James Bonnor pushed their opponents all the way
Knox would ultimately get the better of Stephenson on the second extra hole while Morley was forced to a third extra hole before finally accounting for Bonnor
he needed to birdie both the 19th and 20th holes to get beyond Queensland’s No.1-ranked Associate and into the final eight
I pulled a LAB putter out of the boot of my mate’s car this morning and just put it straight into play
I knew I had to put it close playing against Damon so I’m pretty proud of myself that I held on there.”
Morley’s victory over Bonnor was even more miraculous given he was 3-down with just four holes to play and facing an early exit
“I hadn’t really had anything drop all day so was just hanging in there and playing steady
Made a really good par on 17 to get back to square and then on 18 missed a seven-footer to win it and then went to extra holes
“James was in really close on the 19th but I managed to finally get one to drop from about 25-30 feet which was huge
The extra-time thrillers were just two of four matches that went the distance on Tuesday afternoon
All four featured a standard of golf worthy of a final but it was Jack Wright and Ben Hollis who joined Knox and Morley in the quarter-finals
Wright edged Jordan Rooke 1 up while Hollis won the final hole to complete a 2 up win over Adam Teale
Joining those four in the quarter-finals are the No.1 qualifier from Monday’s strokeplay
Jones advanced with a 5&4 win over Jaime Lansi and Wunderlich completed a 3&2 win over Josh Holbrook
Round 1 and 2 results
6:40am Dylan Knox v Campbell Jones
6:47am Zach Ion v Jack Wright
6:54am Ben Hollis v Reilly Wunderlich
