Brand new upgrades will help to modernise and increase accessibility for the heritage-listed Moss Vale Station in New South Wales.
Two new lifts will be in operation for the first time, each located at the ends of the existing Argyle Street footbridge.
In addition to the lifts, a second stage of work has delivered a new pedestrian ramp and stairs from Argyle Street, resurfacing to Platform Two, installation of Audio Frequency Induction Loop Systems (AFILS) – also known as hearing loops – on both platforms, and enhanced the accessible pedestrian pathway in the station forecourt.
Delivered through Transport for NSW’s Safe Accessible Transport (SAT) program, these upgrades acknowledge the station’s important role in the Moss Vale community.
The work will ensure Moss Vale Station meets Disability Standards for Accessible Transport 2002 (DSAPT) and complies with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA).
The next stage of work will deliver improvements to the Lackey Road entrance, forecourt and Daly’s Way and is expected to be completed in June.
The NSW Government is also upgrading the stabling yard to improve functionality and accessibility for current train storage and operations, and to accommodate the new Regional Rail fleet.
Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Transport and Roads Anna Watson said the opening of new lifts brings the historic station into the 21st century.
“Train stations should be easy to use for all passengers to use, including people with disability, older people, people with prams or luggage, and others who might be experiencing mobility challenges,” Watson said.
“Once complete, the $68 million upgrade to Moss Vale Station and Stabling Yard will improve accessibility for commuters of all ages and abilities.”

Adam Henwood signalled he would be a player to watch at this week’s $150,000 Australian PGA Senior Championship by winning the final lead-up event at Moss Vale today
A round of 5-under-par 66 got the job done for Henwood in the Moss Vale Legends Pro-Am
his sixth win of another productive year on the PGA Legends Tour
The Victorian finished equal 10th in the NSW Senior Open at Thurgoona at the weekend and is primed to be a key contender in the second of the PGA Legends Tour’s “majors”
Tackling the back nine first on the par-71 Moss Vale layout
Henwood was quickly to 3-under through his first six holes
He had made his way to -4 before bogeying the par-4 18th
Another four birdies in the opening six holes
moved the Victorian to 6-under and the comfort of a three-shot lead
Scott Barr (WA) made a charge with a run of six birdies in eight holes to draw within one but then parred his final two holes to settle for the runner-up slot
Henwood said: “I played really well apart from a lost ball and leaking a little bit of oil at the end
You’ve got to drive it good here so I just smashed the driver everywhere and hoped it hit a fairway
I only missed a couple and mostly smoked it into those tiny little gaps
Last week (at the NSW Senior Open) I played okay but I think had eight or nine three-putts for the week and only finished seven or eight back

The award comes off the heels of the hard work and vision that went into the recent re-branding and full-store refurbishment of IGA Fine Food Market + Liquor in 2023
who has been the business owner of the store for the past four years
"The store was previously old and outdated," he said
"So we improved the aesthetics with the aim to improve the look and feel and make it more shoppable for customers."
they've continued to tweak certain sections based on customer feedback - such as consolidating the freezer space to improve shopper flow
and improving the seasonal range for Easter and Christmas time
While the team receives daily acknowledgement from seeing the smiling faces of satisfied shoppers
Mr Graham says this award recognises and reinforces the exceptional service being delivered to the local community
"We were fortunate to win two years in a row
which shows the staff's focus on customer service," he said
He also thinks a big contributor to receiving back-to-back awards in the same category was the emphasis they place on nurturing relationships with local suppliers and providing shoppers with a range of locally-supplied products and gourmet foods
A range of criteria were used in the judging process
"The awards aren't about me as the owner," Mr Graham said
"They're about recognising and rewarding the staff
It was wonderful to see them enjoying the night."
Mr Graham and the IGA Fine Food Market + Liquor Moss Vale team are looking forward to the next step
which is The National Awards of Excellence in July
where they will be up against their state category winners across Australia

Picture by Sally Foy"There's definitely a big culture of kids feeling supported to be their best," he said
and we always talk about being the best possible version of yourself."
Moss Vale High School got some incredible results, including Isaac Guymer, who won First in Course across the state for Human Services Examination
Mr Carlyon said six students achieved ATARs of over 90
and overall the school's band five results had also increased
he noted that the most significant wins often came from the students who don't usually get a mention when ATAR results start to flow through
"It's those kids who might not get seen because they don't get those big ATAR results - but for them
He says Moss Vale High instils a culture that helps students learn what they want from life
"Then we support them in that," Mr Carlyon said
"The fruits are obviously some of these kids who got outstanding results - but the hidden results that you don't always hear about
who didn't get an ATAR but is only the second person in her family to complete the HSC
"I was going to do nursing but found it too stressful
so I have decided to pursue my art career," she said
"I got really good marks in visual arts in my assessments and I got a 71 in my HSC result for Community and Family Studies
who plans to study a Certificate 4 in graphic design at Enmore TAFE in Sydney
"I am hoping to create a business for myself," she said
"I just want to have a future in the art industry."
Molly Knight received a 60.85 ATAR and said opening the results wasn't "the be-all and end-all" because she was already proud of herself
"I've already been accepted to Wollongong University where I'll be studying a bachelor of nursing," Molly said
and I want to do more for the community than just sitting back
"I want to study paramedicine and midwifery so that I can go into the Royal Flying Doctors Service," she said
One of the school's high achievers was Daniel Francis who received band sixes for both Music 1 and Entertainment
"I wasn't too nervous because I had some early offers
but then I couldn't sleep that night and woke up at 5.30am to check," he said
"I got early offers into ANU and UNSW for a bachelor of science
I'll probably go to UNSW because it's a bit closer to home
"I've always loved the problem-solving side of math and science
The plan is just to do a science course and probably major in physics and then see where it takes me," Daniel said
Timothy Andrews described opening his results as pretty exciting
He was also relieved to know and be able to move on finally
"The results were much better than my trial results
so now I'm just ready to move on and turn over a new leaf," he said
Timothy said when he gathered with his peer group for what was probably one of the last times they would spend together on the Moss Vale High School campus, the students all felt very relaxed.
"Studying at Moss Vale is about the teachers
They're just great and so supportive," he said
Timothy hadn't bothered to look at his ATAR results at the time of publication because he already had his 2025 plans in place
"I haven't checked because I already have early acceptance to a film school," he said
"I start at JNC Academy at Ultimo in February to study a film and TV course
I'm hoping to focus on directing and screenwriting."

Ms Parker is also currently standing in as secretary
"I've been on the committee for two years but I've been going to the show since I was walking," she said
Saturday was a standout - thanks in part to the demolition derby and horse events
with the day ending in a fantastic fireworks display
"There were over 6000 people through the gates after lunchtime on Saturday," Ms Parker said
they ran two: a four-cylinder and an open smash-up derby
"We had a few more entrants than we did last year," Ms Parker said
Two brothers stole the derby show with Jamie Clayton winning the four-cylinder and Brock Clayton taking out the open
"We had more horses than we've had in five or six years
so both Friday and Saturday were way busier than usual with horses," Ms Parker said
"Obviously a lot of people are coming back since the lull that COVID caused in competition
Ms Parker said the horse events were in the main ring: "So it's nice and easy for people to sit around with their dagwood dog and watch the horses for the day."

Moss Vale resident and community organisation representative Sam Sevieri said the outcome was a testament to the strength
"We are absolutely delighted with the Independent Planning Commission's decision to refuse this utterly inappropriate development," he said
"What began as a grassroots campaign grew into a focused and well-researched movement
driven by people who refused to accept a development that posed such significant risks to our environment
This decision proves the power of community when united for a just cause."
Wingecarribee Shire Council Mayor Jesse Fitzpatrick reiterated Sam's words saying the decision was a testament to the power of collective advocacy and community engagement
"This decision reflects the power of when the community and council come together
Council has stood firmly alongside our residents throughout this process
advocating for their concerns to be heard at the highest levels," he said
A recommendation was made by the Department of Planning
Housing and Infrastructure on October 11 to approve the facility known as Plasrefine
It identified the proposed site as a State Significant Development due to its recommended use and size
The proposed site at Beaconsfield Road would have the capacity to process up to 120,000 tonnes of plastic waste annually
a message sent to every person who made a submission on the proposoal late on Friday (January 24) said the NSW Independent Planning Commission (Commission) had determined the State Significant Development (SSD) Application for the Moss Vale Plastics Recycling Facility "by way of refusal"
The message continued: "This decision has been made following a comprehensive process including consideration of the formal assessment conducted by the Department of Planning
Housing and Infrastructure and hearing submissions from the community
This process has assisted the Commission to reach an informed decision."
The message from the commission said that "now that the application has been determined
the Commission has no further decision-making or oversight functions on this matter"
It warned that "the applicant or other people who had made a submission on this matter may be able to appeal the commission's decision in the Land and Environment Court of NSW (Court)"
Member for Whitlam Stephen Jones has welcomed the news saying "the rejection of this proposal is a win for our community"
Mr Jones said he was proud to have been a part of the community effort to prevent the project from proceeding
He said he met with residents in the Moss Vale area last year
he urged the IPC to consider the environmental
and safety impacts on Moss Vale residents if the facility were to proceed
He noted that while "a recycling facility is important
I have always maintained that the South-East sector of the Southern Highlands Innovation Park was the wrong location"
Goulburn MP Wendy Tuckerman said the decision brought "immense relief to every person in our community who has fought tirelessly for this outcome over the past four years"
"It is clear that the substantial effort made by the community to highlight the legitimate concerns about the proposal's impacts have been carefully considered by the IPC," she said
"The IPC has detailed their due consideration
acknowledging the community's concerns and determined that it was not a suitable location for such a facility
This outcome demonstrates clearly what the community has been saying the entire time
the company behind the Plasrefine proposal has been contacted for comment

The season runs from March to June and preparations are underway now
"We have strong numbers in our 14s and 16s girls
But the 12s and 18s are a bit light-on,'' Dave said
Trials are held on Sundays from 11am for the 12 girls and 5pm for the 18s at the Moss Vale Stadium
These will continue for the next few weeks before sides are determined

more than 80,100 students across NSW are studying for the HSC
The Moss Vale High School (MVHS) captain said the exams had come around very quickly, but she was ready to push through and think about life after school.
"It's so weird to think it's all coming to an end," she said.
The Year 12 graduate has been offered early entry to study primary school teaching, and has already completed a Certificate Three in childcare.
She has plans to work in childcare while studying at the University of Wollongong (UOW), and continuing her current hospitality position.
The former student said she "fell in love" with teaching children at a young age.
"It's been a massive passion of mine, I grew up in my mother's preschool," she said.
She is not the only student thinking about the future - MVHS graduates Noah and Emmerson Roachix, Isaac Guymer, Mia Gardiner and Beatrix Jones, are ready to get through the HSC, and have all been offered early university entries.
Emmerson has been offered places at the University of NSW (UNSW) and UOW, and is thinking about studying a Masters of Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology, and a Bachelor of Exercise Science at UNSW.
Isaac has been accepted to study pre-medicine, or engineering at different universities across the state.
He said the early entry helped take the pressure off the HSC.
All of the students said their exam timetables were spread out.
"I'm not too stressed about it," Noah said.
Mia said she felt the school prepared her for her exams, particularly for visual arts, having learned about what it entailed in Year 8.
She was "very excited" to complete the exams, she said.
"I'm ready for it to be over," Emmerson said.
