“Our priority is to support the family
first responders and a community grieving an unimaginable tragedy,” he said on Thursday
His government has pledged to bring in "adult crime
A grandmother killed in a horror crash involving a car allegedly stolen by a teenager at gun point has been remembered for her kindness and devotion to her family
Rosemary Franzidis, 69, died after a high-impact collision at an intersection north of Brisbane
A 16-year-old boy has been charged with manslaughter after being accused of stealing an Audi at gun point and crashing into Ms Franzidis' Toyota at Murrumba Downs on Thursday morning
Her family said Ms Franzidis would be sorely missed by her husband of almost 50 years
her three daughters and 'three beautiful grandchildren'
The 69-year-old would be fondly remembered by friends and family in South Africa
who cherished her family more than anything in the world,' a family statement said
she had many church friends who will remember her fondly
Floral tributes have been laid at the crash scene
with bouquets attached to a fence near the Murrumba Downs intersection
Queensland Premier David Crisafulli also paid tribute, vowing to ensure tough laws for youth crime would be in place by Christmas.
Mr Crisafulli had campaigned hard on youth crime before winning the state election on October 26.
His Liberal National Party government on Friday said it had instructed the Department of Justice to begin drafting the Making Queensland Safer Laws to be introduced to parliament later in November.
They include 'adult crime, adult time' laws and removing detention as a last resort for juvenile offenders.
The premier said while the fatal crash investigation was in its early stages, news of what had unfolded would be 'harrowing' for Queenslanders.
'A family is coming to terms with the loss of a loved one and the thoughts and prayers of an entire state are with them - they are owed answers,' he said in a statement.
Opposition Leader and Murrumba MP Steven Miles said his community was hurting over the 'terrible incident', offering his support to the victim's family before taking aim at the premier.
'We've already seen David Crisafulli rush to politicise this tragedy. I won't be doing that but this has affected my local community,' Mr Miles said.
Ms Franzidis was trapped in the Toyota and died at the scene despite paramedics' attempts to resuscitate her.
The Audi also allegedly hit an unmarked police vehicle at the intersection, hospitalising two officers who were later released.
Police said a firearm was found in the Audi.
The 16-year-old was taken to hospital and placed under police guard.
He was later charged with manslaughter, armed robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle as well as two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.
He was due to appear in Brisbane Children's Court on Friday.

More details have been revealed about a 16-year-old boy who has been charged with the manslaughter of a grandmother following a fatal crash north of Brisbane this week
A teenage boy accused of killing a beloved Queensland grandmother while driving an alleged stolen car "has no family" and had been in state protection the last four years
Police will allege the 16-year-old was armed with a gun when he robbed a woman of her Audi in Griffin
on Thursday morning before fleeing with the car
About 15 minutes later it is alleged the boy drove through a red traffic light in Murrumba Downs and collided with a Toyota hatchback driven by Rosemary Franzidis
The 69-year-old grandmother died at the scene.
Police revealed the teen was known to them
with his Youth Advocacy Centre solicitor Alzena Mariani attempting to have journalists removed from the hearing
She argued the teen was "not a frequent flyer"
meaning he had not been in and out of custody
before revealing more details about his background
“He has been in the care of the Department of Child Safety for the past four years
he spoke to his mum yesterday and he instructs that she is not bothered by the situation he finds himself in," Ms Mariani told the court
“He doesn’t have any support in the community
who was on your side and who were you talking to
so I’m not sure what the Department of Child Safety was doing.”
While the solicitor conceded the public do have a right to be informed about the allegations
she argued it was "extraordinarily prejudicial" to have his name released
Ms Mariani added the 16-year-old has not been able to comprehend the extent of what has happened as he was given pain medication and remains in shock after the incident
“He also has significant mental health concerns," she said
The judge agreed to remove media from the first hearing
it was flagged in court journalists were banned by law from naming children accused of crime
and in all probability it is correct that he hasn’t processed what has happened to any extent yet," Magistrate Anne Thacker said
The family of Ms Franzidis have remembered the grandmother as someone who was "much-loved" by friends and relatives all around the world
“Rosemary Franzidis was a much-loved wife
who cherished her family more than anything in the world,” a family statement said

The Gibson family now count themselves among this number
having once lived in Ipswich before heading north to the City of Moreton Bay
They share their home with five kids and Katrina’s mother
paying something close to Strathpine’s median rent of $550 a week for a four-bedroom single-storey brick house
“It is not as busy as the inner city,” Katrina said
“The shops are very local – two minutes away – and [there’s] the main one at Strathpine [Plaza]
Katrina enjoys the Strathpine lifestyle and says the family would like to buy into the suburb
especially because most of their children are now at local schools
so you are not touching your neighbour,” she said

The others are nearby Murrumba Downs – which
is on the north side of the Brisbane-Moreton Bay border – and Doolandella
The research shows a three-bedroom house 20 kilometres from Brisbane’s CBD is still available in Doolandella for $612,500; at Strathpine for $625,000; and at Murrumba Downs for $650,000

Less than a kilometre from the Gibsons’ rental is another single-storey four-bedroom house – this one home to Ghada Tanno
Ghada says she’s not surprised that Strathpine was named as both affordable and liveable
“All the people we know live out here in this area,” she said
“My son wanted to start his new life here so he got a home loan [and told us] ‘I want you to move in with me’.”
The housing supplier he chose offered single-storey house and land packages from $650,000
but Ghada was already familiar with the area
having lived in the nearby suburbs of Bracken Ridge and Griffin since she first came to Australia from Iraq

There are also two train stations: one of them is two minutes down the road
The state government has been encouraging more family groups to live in “gentle density”
Mardiasmo says this isn’t at odds with having affordable homes on the city’s fringe
is the price point for new “gentle density” townhouses
“What we don’t know is what will be the affordability point of those new developments
“If the price of that new stock is the median price of those inner-city suburbs
there is a good chance that people who are first-home owners – people who have a particular budget – may not be able to afford those homes.”
She says homes on the city fringe are a complementary element of the planning mix
“We know that when it comes to affordability
the places that we have identified are places that can balance affordability and liveability,” she said

Fire crews investigating after incident that saw neighbours evacuated and debris scattered over the neighbourhood
Fire investigators will work to establish the cause of an explosion which destroyed a Brisbane townhouse on Wednesday and required surrounding streets to be locked down for several hours
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) received multiple 000 calls just before 1pm regarding an explosion and fire on Nambucca Close in Murrumba Downs

crews upgraded the job as they could see large dark plumes of smoke emerging from the property
They arrived to find the two-storey building on fire and the attached garage collapsed
Police worked to evacuate surrounding residents and made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act
The fire was extinguished shortly after 3pm
with an investigation into the cause ongoing
QFES confirmed surrounding properties had been damaged by the explosion but were not affected by the fire
Natasha Gamble was home with her baby on Wednesday afternoon when she heard the booming explosion from a few streets away
“It sounded like something landed on our roof
I went out to have a look and I saw heaps of thick black smoke down the street,” she told Guardian Australia
“We could see flames coming out from other houses and hear the crackling of the fire.”

Murrumba Downs has broken a price barrier for the northern suburb
the idea of achieving above $1 million in Murrumba Downs for a suburban detached home would have been unthinkable
it smashed through by going under contract for $1.25 million on 23rd June
said the owner gave it every chance to be a record breaker
“All the features were high-end and to high standard — Italian tiles and Miele appliances — things you don’t see in a ‘normal’ house,” Ms Savic said
“It was over a million-dollar build,” she said
Little expense was sparred in fitting out the home
It’s also one of the largest homes on offer in the suburb
“The house itself is 638sq m internally — it’s a huge home,” Ms Savic said
The house had six-bedroom accommodation on offer with a study and five other living spaces for the new owners to share
Finishes throughout the home were of the highest quality
Externally there were manicured gardens and a central inground pool off the patio
Ms Savic said the home’s size and layout might have appealed to two families willing to share the space
“The buyers bought as they’ve got a business they run in Morayfield so it’s nice and close to them,” she said
Ms Savic said more and more buyers are looking for homes of this calibre in the area
but it’s families on their second or third home,” she said
“I think people just want to walk in and not have to do anything these days.”

A would-be car thief was thwarted by a hilarious alarm that shout's 'Surprise motherf*****!' when a robber approaches
Home security footage from a property at Murrumba Downs in south-east Queensland, shows the moment a mystery man sneaks up on two cars parked in a driveway.
The crim fails to open the door of the first car before heading towards the second vehicle.
But he's so startled by the quirky alarm taken from the popular American crime-drama series, Dexter, he runs away in shock.
The words are famously uttered by one of the show's characters, Sergeant James Doakes, who is played by actor Erik King.
It's just the latest tactic desperate residents in crime-ravaged communities on the Sunshine State are being forced to come up with in order to protect their processions.
Large parts of state are wrestling with high rates of thefts and violent crime - particularly among youth offenders.
Last month, three women were killed in a car crash involving a Mercedes-Benz that had been allegedly stolen from a property at Maryborough, 265km north of Brisbane.
The accused driver - a 13-year-old boy - has been charged with three counts of dangerous driving causing death.
Another boy, 13, is accused of helping to steal the vehicle and has also been charged.
A Compare the Market survey in April revealed that 12 per cent of Sunshine State residents will have their car stolen at some point in their lives, with grand theft auto cases up nine per cent in the past year.
The national average is just seven per cent.
Assaults and other violent crimes are also surging and in March the Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk's government reintroduced breach of bail as a standalone offence for young people after it was abolished in 2015.
More than 70 offenders have since been charged with the offence.
