manhunt for an armed man on the run in Sydney’s north-west after he targeted and attacked a number of women walking alone After a number of reports of robberies and assaults in the Northmead and North Rocks area early on Wednesday police are still searching for who they describe as a young man with his face covered at the time of the crime sprees as officials are warning the public not to approach him and call police immediately.  Superintendent Barry Vincent from NSW Police said the spree of attacks began when a white Mitsubishi Outlander SUV was reported stolen from a business on Windsor Road in North Rocks at around 5am on Wednesday.  Officers then received another call that a 47-year-old woman walking alone on Mons Road in Northmead had been approached from behind by a man.  but her personal items including a bag were taken from her.  believed to be the same one reported stolen from North Rocks earlier.  Officers received another call while responding to this incident from a 19-year-old woman who was approached from behind by a man of similar description while walking along Junia Avenue in Toongabbie The woman was allegedly threatened with a knife before her bag was stolen.  police were alerted a short time later to another incident where the attacker allegedly threatened a 27-year-old woman with a hammer in North Parramatta She gave up her purse and mobile phone to him.  Vincent said men known to the woman tracked her stolen phone to the nearby North Rocks Road and confronted the offender who smashed their car window with a hammer and assaulted them before again fleeing the scene.  Officers have since recovered the stolen vehicle but are still looking for the man An extensive search has involved a helicopter specialist officers and the dog unit.  Christ King Primary School in North Rocks was forced into lockdown on Wednesday at about 11am after police asked staff to keep students inside as a precaution.  Police are also investigating if this same man is responsible for break-ins at multiple homes across the area two days earlier.  Vincent said while none of the women were seriously injured the nature of the alleged offending was of “deep concern” to officers “I would describe this as particularly cowardly just targeting women walking alone in the early hours from behind,” he said Anyone with information or footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. by Brianna Boecker Δdocument.getElementById( "ak_js_1" ).setAttribute( "value", ( new Date() ).getTime() ); Linda Reynolds has labelled her party’s election loss a A major police manhunt is under way in Sydney’s west after a masked man armed with a knife and hammer robbed multiple people – appearing to target women. On Wednesday morning police were called by multiple members of the public about a man trespassing on properties around Northmead. About 5.10am, a 37-year-old man was inside a petrol station on Windsor Road when police allege the wanted man stole his Mitsubishi Outlander SUV. Ten minutes later a 47-year-old woman was walking on Mons Road when the man stopped the SUV near her. Sensing something was wrong, the woman attempted to run away as the man approached her. The woman tripped over and the man was able to flee with her handbag. Shortly after, the man drove to Junia Avenue, Toongabbie, where he attempted to steal a bag from a 19-year-old woman. The pair struggled over the bag before the man pulled out a knife and again fled the scene. In yet another incident that police believe was committed by the same man, a 27-year-old woman was walking on North Rocks Road in North Parramatta when the man allegedly hit her in the shoulder with a hammer. She handed over her purse and phone and the man ran away. The woman’s relatives were able to track the man’s location using her phone, but before they could confront the alleged attacker, he approached the family’s car and smashed the windscreen with the hammer. He then got into a physical altercation with one of the woman’s family members – a 27-year-old man – before the alleged attacker ran away. CCTV captured a man matching the description provided by police.Credit: Nine News The SUV was found nearby and has been taken for forensic examination. Police are calling on the public to identify the man, who is described as being of medium build and in his mid-20s, wearing a black beanie, balaclava, a black Nike hoodie and black gloves. Do not approach the man, but call triple zero straight away. Police appealed for help in finding the man and released CCTV vision showing the man’s face on Thursday afternoon. The footage shows him moving down a corridor, opening a door apparently using his sleeve so as not to leave fingerprints on the handle, and jogging across a driveway and a road. NSW Police Superintendent Barry Vincent said it was too early to determine the motivation of the alleged attacker, but believed the man was opportunistic in selecting women walking alone in the early hours of the morning. He warned women to stick to major roads when walking alone and said the victims who handed over their property to the man did the right thing. “Property can be replaced, your safety is of the utmost,” Vincent said. History lovers will need to check out 64 Windsor Road at Northmead Buyers have a chance to own a slice of history with a western Sydney home built by convicts over a 170 years ago on the market Regarded as the oldest and most iconic home in Northmead, 64 Windsor Road is on 778sqm and features five bedrooms a country-style kitchen and a cedarwood studio The heritage-listed property was built from local sandstone by convicts in 1850 as the manager’s house for the Darling Grain Mill The Darling Mill was one of the earliest commercial operations in the area according to City of Parramatta records The main bedroom looks like something out of a fairytale and has original exposed roof beams John Raine was granted land on Darling Mills Creek in 1825 and the steam flour mill was completed on the site in 1826 who served as the leader of the NSW colony between 1825 and 1831 The iconic property is being sold by owners Ross and Marlene Ross said the cottage was built with some unusual architectural quirks “At the time people didn’t like to have sandstone on display so the house has rendered sandstone similar to what is found at Old Government House in Parramatta,” he said “The old rural gothic style is also very interesting as it makes the house appear to be two storeys when it actually is just an attic that was accessed above each bedroom.” With convict carvings still visible on the walls the cottage has been extended over time with the kitchen situated in a now enclosed veranda Inside combines elements of rural Gothic and Victorian architecture with updated interiors a formal living room and four bedrooms with fireplaces including the main that looks to be something out of a castle The thick walls also means the house is kept cool in summer and warm in winter Outside has a wraparound veranda with a cottage garden fruit trees and an established herb garden as well as a cedarwood studio and multiple sheds The owners have also opened the rear of the property to enable parking for up to five cars comfortably The kitchen is located in what was once an outdoor veranda Manor Real Estate’s Rinat Talat has set a $1.2m guide on the iconic property via a private treaty campaign He said interest has been strong from a mix of families and history lovers who all want to ensure the historic components of the house remain in tact Mr Talot there is scope to add value through the construction of a granny flat or main road exposure for a business “You are limited to not being able to touch the facade “Any internal renovations do require a DA from council.” The workshops and roving entertainment City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Pierre Esber said the outdoor cinema event was a great opportunity for the community to enjoy free activities during the school holidays and experience the improved park “Our community played a significant role in shaping the improvements for our much-loved park and we’re proud to deliver this significant recreational space with more shade and picnic areas that our community need,” he added “We know how important open spaces are to our local schools these upgrades will provide plenty of opportunities for outdoor fun throughout the year.” These upgrades now complete Stage 1 of the Arthur Phillip Master Plan with Council confirming they are currently pursuing additional funding to deliver the following stages the contributed $1.15 million to the park upgrade through its Public Spaces Legacy Program Funding Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said he is plead the State Government has been able to support additional growth in the area by delivering critical infrastructure and high-quality open space to support more homes “Arthur Phillip Park has been transformed into a beautiful space which
