A primary school principal has been charged with possession of child exploitation material and sexually grooming children
Patric Brady, 54, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after police searched his home at Pimpama, on the northern end of the Gold Coast
Brady has been the highly respected principal at nearby Oxenford State School since October 2018
A Queensland Police spokesperson noted there is 'no indication' his alleged offending was related to his employment
It will be alleged Brady was found to be in possession of the material as well as encrypted messaging services used to groom children in the Philippines
He was charged with one count of possessing child exploitation material and three counts of soliciting child abuse material by using a carriage service
Brady also faces one count each of grooming a person to make it easier to engage in sexual activity with a child outside of Australia
and grooming a child to engage in sexual activity outside of Australia
The arrest stemmed from a joint operation by Queensland Police and the AFP-led Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE)
Ongoing investigations into the extent of the alleged offences are led by Queensland Police's Task Force Argos
which specialises in online child exploitation and abuse
Argos detective inspector Glen Donaldson said officers were leaving 'no stone unturned' in efforts to identify alleged offenders
'The issue of Live Online Child Sexual Abuse (LOCSA) of vulnerable children across the world is a significant concern and remains a targeting priority of law enforcement across Australia,' Mr Donaldson said
'Law enforcement continue to share intelligence on a daily basis
working together to identify those who seek to hide on platforms they believe make them anonymous
and our detectives will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to identify and prosecute offenders.'
A spokesperson for the Department of Education said it is aware an 'employee was arrested' and is providing counselling to those who require it
'The department is supporting the police investigation and is providing ongoing support to the affected school community,' the spokesperson said
'Counselling and guidance services are available for anyone requiring support.'
Brady was granted bail at Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday having previously been refused it by police after his arrest, the Courier Mail reports
He is expected to return to face court on September 12

A Gold Coast couple have sold their Oxenford home at 7 Mendooran Court 40 years after building it
A GOLD Coast couple who were among the first to build in Oxenford when it shifted from farmland to housing have sold their home after 40 years
Bruce and Adele Ramsay reluctantly relinquished their family home on Mendooran Court
They bought the 5035sq m block of land in the estate
which was then referred to as Cades County
in the late 1970s after moving from Mt Isa
Mrs Ramsay said they were visiting her parents who lived on the Gold Coast when her husband suggested moving to the area with their children
Bruce and Adele Ramsay were among the first residents in their estate
They bought the land in 1979 and build most of the property themselves
it will be good to get them where (there) is a better education’.”
They couldn’t afford a property on the water so looked further inland for a place to settle down
“Oxenford was out in the bush when we built,” she said
“We bought the land in 1979 so we were building this time forty years ago
I think we were the second house in that area.”
Queensland Government records state Oxenford was primarily farmland before its residential development began in the 1980s
Mrs Ramsay said the area looked completely different then as Movie World and Wet’n’Wild were yet to be built
The area was also part of Albert Shire Council before it merged with the Gold Coast council in 1995
The Ramsays built most of the house themselves
It wasn’t until a decade ago that they started a two-stage renovation to bring it up to a more modern standard
The area has changed a lot since the couple moved in
A renovation 10 years ago has brought the house up to a more modern standard
Mrs Ramsay said they held fond memories of the property
“We had lots of family get-togethers because we had lots of space,” she said
“We just loved living there and we miss it
“It was a decision of the mind more than a decision of the heart
“We felt that we wanted to get into somewhere where we don’t have the maintenance.”
residents held onto their Oxenford houses for an average of 10 years
said it was rare to come across people who had lived in a property so long
“Out of all the properties I’ve ever sold in that part of the world … they’re the longest standing residents,” he said

HAS this Gold Coast mega mansion been built in the wrong suburb
The Oxenford house is on the market at more than $3 million and will smash the suburb record if it sells for its asking price

who moved from up-market Sovereign Islands to the leafy suburb of Oxenford
enlisted a designer and builder who typically work on the Sovereign Islands
Ray White Sovereign Islands agents Rhonda Gunn and Edin Kara are marketing the property and said they were blown away when they first stepped inside
“When I first walked into it I was just stunned,” Ms Gunn said
“The quality just jumps out at you right from the word go

The vendors moved from Sovereign Islands at Paradise Point to Oxenford
Among its standout features is a curved Venetian plaster wall
Mr Kara said the vendors loved the position on Temple Island Circuit so much they decided to make the move west
CoreLogic records reveal they paid $600,000 for the block in 2017 before building their dream home
“They loved the lake and the fact the block faces northeast and is so peaceful and quiet,” Mr Kara said
“They always used to run around the lake and so bought a block of land to build their dream home.”
While a sale of more than $3 million would be a record for the suburb
the agents are confident of finding a buyer
Property records show the highest sale in Oxenford is $1.26 million 2017 for a house on Brittany Drive
Oxenford’s median house price is $527,250 according to REA Group
was the voice of children's stories on Listen With Mother
most comforting sound in the world: "Are you sitting comfortably
Then I'll begin." For a generation of postwar children in homes without television
She always treasured the quote of the little boy who said: "I like stories on the wireless because the pictures are better." There were other presenters of the programme – Julia Lang
Dorothy Smith and Eileen Browne (who sang the nursery rhymes with George Dixon) – but the euphony of Daphne Oxenford's name
flawless vocal delivery made her the main attraction
She commuted to London from Manchester to record the programmes on two or three days each week. Otherwise, she raised two daughters while appearing regularly in the theatre and on television – from the second episode of Coronation Street in 1960

From the 1950s to the 80s she was one of the team of unseen readers on Granada Television's What the Papers Say

Oxenford made her West End debut in Laurier Lister's Tuppence Coloured at the Globe (now the Gielgud) in 1947 with Joyce Grenfell, Elisabeth Welch and Max Adrian
The show ran for a year and was followed by another Lister revue
in which Oxenford and Diana Churchill sang a song about film critics written by Sandy Wilson
She married David Marshall, a chartered accountant, in 1951, and the couple made their home in Altrincham, near Manchester
On radio in the 1970s, she formed a fruitful partnership with Les Dawson, and was prominent in popular television series for more than 30 years, ranging from The Sweeney and Casualty to Doctor Who, To the Manor Born (1979-81) with Penelope Keith and Peter Bowles and Fresh Fields (1984-86), with Julia McKenzie and Anton Rodgers
she made occasional appearances with the Library theatre
where a favourite role was gawky Miss Gossage in The Happiest Days of Your Life

she and Constance Chapman played the two chattering aunts of Edward Fox's tortured

Her last London appearance was as Pauline Collins's mother in Simon Callow's touching production of Sharman Macdonald's Shades at the Albery (now the Noël Coward) in 1992

The “wavelike” style of concrete wall panels and pre-made curved resin fascia panels is the true standout of the house
“The whole idea was to make it look like a piano and it’s got the curves you see in houses on the Hollywood Hills,” said marketing agent Sebastian Ross of Ray White Pacific Pines
“It’s got that 60s and 70s feel but with a very modern twist
“The components had to be made to order and put together on site.”
From the front the wavelike features stand out

“With the glass panels and the huge tree you get the beautiful texture of the glass as well as the wood and greenery from the tree,” he said

Aussie umpire Bruce Oxenford reveals why he has opted for a custom-made shield instead of helmet as umpires get serious about safety
Australian umpire Bruce Oxenford has christened his unique protection shield the "Ox Block" and predicts all umpires will be equipped with one in future
Oxenford broke new ground in umpire safety after he used the protective shield for the first time in an international match during England's record-breaking one-day victory against Sri Lanka at Edgbaston
He revealed the shield is made of a bulletproof polycarbonate plastic that can withstand a sledgehammer blow
and has been in talks with one kit manufacturer about taking his design commercial
The 56-year-old Gold Coaster clad his left forearm in the protective device
looking somewhat like a slimmed down version of a police riot shield
as he stood in the second ODI that England won by 10 wickets last month
Oxenford had previously worn the guard during the matches he stood in at the Indian Premier League in April and before that in a World Twenty20 warm-up match involving Australia and the West Indies
But the Edgbaston ODI was the first time the equipment had been seen in a full international
umpire protection has amounted to no more than a hat or a cap
But there have been increasing concerns regarding the safety of officials
particularly in the case of an umpire standing at the bowler's end
with more and more batsmen in the modern era capable of ferocious hitting
"I was lying in my hotel bed in Delhi earlier this year when I came up with this idea," Oxenford told the Daily Mail
"My fellow umpire John Ward was on duty in India and had just been hit on the head and badly injured
"We'd been talking for a long time about how we're in the firing line and the ball is coming back harder and faster all the time."
Ward was struck in the head in the 48th over of a Ranji Trophy match from a full-blooded drive by a Punjab batsman Barinder Sran
who is now a regular in India's limited-overs teams
who was in India as part of an umpire exchange program between Australia
was hospitalised but cleared of any lasting injury
The injury to Ward incident prompted his Australian official Gerard Abood to become the first official to wear a helmet in a match when he donned the protective headwear in the KFC Big Bash League
Ward returned to officiating in the Big Bash
He then became the first umpire to wear a helmet in an international match during the fourth ODI between Australia and India in Canberra
"There's been talk of helmets but I don't really want to wear one because I think it will restrict my peripheral vision and hearing and also I don't think I'm going to get hit in the face," Oxenford said
"The natural thing is to throw your hands up in front of your face and turn your head away when the ball comes at you but then I thought
'What if there's something like an extended arm guard which would act as a shield?'
I would be able to do everything I need to do and not get in the way of the bowler
"I did a bit of research and looked at polycarbonate
It's extremely strong and you couldn't break it with a sledgehammer
"I had people throw cricket balls at me from close range and it stood up to the test
it's already protecting my chest and upper body and if the ball comes at you it's really just moving it up a little bit and it covers your face
'More people get hit on the body than the head and more deaths have happened in cricket when people have been struck on the body
Oxenford said the improved safety aspect had not stopped fellow umpires and players from making good-natured jokes at his expense
"It's been very good even though a lot of umpires have taken the mickey out of me," he said
"Paul Reiffel called me Batfink and Joe Root said I look like Captain America
but it's also been overwhelmingly positive
"A lot of guys have asked me if it will become commercially available and I've spoken with Gray-Nicolls about it already
I showed them the first prototype and they're working on something similar."
"A lot of guys have told me I should call it the Ox Block
"I wouldn't be surprised if every umpire had one in a few years' time
Personally I just think it's the sensible thing to do
it cost me $120 to make as a one-off so it would be cheaper if they were made in bulk
have clarified that if a batsman's shot is deflected off Oxenford's shield and then caught by a fielder
the Laws of Cricket make it clear that if a ball hits the helmet of a fielder before being held
the batsman is not out and dead ball is called

"I believe that the best way to defend myself is to continue doing journalism and speaking out about the things I believe in," renowned journalist Juliana Oxenford tells CFWIJ in response to the relentless harassment she has faced and her job termination due to her coverage of the 2021 presidential elections in Peru
In the wake of the recent political upheaval in Peru
one of the country's most prominent journalists
has found herself at the center of a storm of controversy and intimidation
known for her critical coverage of both left and right-wing political factions
has been targeted with a barrage of online attacks
I fear for their safety when going out alone," says the journalist to CFWIJ
Oxenford's ordeal began during the 2021 presidential elections when she was accused of supporting the left-wing candidate
Despite her efforts to provide balanced coverage of both candidates
Oxenford was labeled a terrorist and a communist by Fujimori's supporters
The attacks escalated after Castillo's victory
with Oxenford becoming a target for right-wing retaliation
“By providing equal coverage to both candidates
I've been targeted with name-calling and accusations of backing a terrorist group
I acknowledged the potential in both candidates without favoring one
which led to these attacks.” adds Oxenford
Oxenford's television program maintained high ratings
even seeing an increase in viewership in 2023 compared to 2021
in a move that Oxenford believes was politically motivated
The network replaced her with a more compliant journalist
effectively silencing one of the few critical voices in Peruvian media
Oxenford's dismissal
which she addressed in her last televised show
sparked outrage among her supporters and fellow journalists
who see it as an attack on press freedom and democracy
They argue that her removal is part of a broader pattern of political interference in the media
reminiscent of the authoritarian tactics employed during the Fujimori dictatorship in the 1990s
The current political landscape in Peru is complex and fraught with tension
The left-wing government of Pedro Castillo was ousted in a coup in December 2022
who Oxenford describes as a puppet of the right wing
effectively creating a parliamentary dictatorship
and to keep speaking out against corruption and injustice
She acknowledges that her outspokenness will likely continue to make her a target
but she is determined to uphold the principles of journalism and democracy
The saga of Juliana Oxenford serves as a stark reminder of the threats facing journalists worldwide
In an era of increasing political polarization and authoritarianism
the role of the media as a check on power is more critical than ever
those who dare to speak truth to power often do so at great personal risk
the pursuit of truth and justice is a cause worth fighting for
2021 Peruvian Presidential Election Controversy
She contested around 500,000 votes and demanded that half of them be invalidated
prompting electoral officials in Peru to reevaluate the ballots
no substantial evidence of any wrongdoing was presented to support these claims
On December 7, 2022, Pedro Castillo attempted a self-coup to dissolve Congress
citing their obstruction of his proposed policies
the legislative body swiftly responded by impeaching and removing him from office on the same day.
The Coalition For Women In Journalism and Women Press Freedom firmly stands in solidarity with Juliana Oxenford
providing unwavering support during this challenging time
Oxenford's coverage of the 2021 presidential election in Peru has been nothing short of courageous and exemplary
and threats from far-right advocates of presidential hopeful Keiko Fujimori
she maintained her professional dedication to unbiased reporting
This unwavering commitment to journalistic ethics in the face of such adversity is commendable
fears for her personal safety and that of her children
This is a clear indication of the severity of the threats she is facing
It is unacceptable for any journalist to feel threatened while performing her professional duties
The fact that Oxenford's television program maintained high ratings and increased viewership in 2023 is a testament to her quality as a journalist and the public's trust in her reporting
The decision to replace her with a more compliant journalist suggests a dangerous precedent where media freedom is compromised in favor of political interests
We demand that the network apologize to the journalist and call upon authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the threats and unfair dismissal
ensuring that those responsible are held accountable
We perceive this as a blatant assault on the freedom of the media
It is crucial to safeguard journalists and provide them with the essential guarantees to fulfill their professional responsibilities without any obstacles or apprehension of reprisal
The Coalition For Women In Journalism is a global organization of support for women journalists
The CFWIJ pioneered mentorship for mid-career women journalists across several countries around the world and is the first organization to focus on the status of free press for women journalists
We thoroughly document cases of any form of abuse against women in any part of the globe
Our system of individuals and organizations brings together the experience and mentorship necessary to help female career journalists navigate the industry

COULD this property be the great Australian dream
Australia’s love for real estate is practically a sport
and this home combines the two with a cricket pitch in the backyard and a veranda to watch it from
Fit for a test match, the Oxenford home located at 27 California Drive features lawns of synthetic turf
Eric and Julie Warren bought the property in 2009 and put their own mark on it over the years with a putting green and cricket pitch
“I’ve got 13 grandkids and four sons so we have a whole team ready to play,” the owner of Prestige Waterless Turf said
“I usually sit on the veranda and umpire in the shade though
“We put in the turf six year ago and it has stayed like that ever since
“There is not one bit of grass in my yard and the lawn won’t change colour for at least 15 years.”
Mr Warren said the backyard was used as a display for his business
“We had a lot of people wanting putting greens in their backyards and if their properties were big enough
Brambling Property Hendra selling agent Ann-Marie Warhurst said the home was ticking a lot of boxes for families
“There is been a few open homes and the groups are mostly families who are really drawn to the backyard and family-friendly space,” she said
“The families are always impressed with the pitch because its ready to go and you don’t have to maintain it.”
timber raked ceilings and a wraparound veranda the home includes a resort style pool and outdoor kitchen
The 1151sq m property is on the market for offers over $650,000
