Here is some of what Trump has been up to over the past 100 days
Americans may be a bit sour about President Donald Trump's first 100 days, but his visits to Mar-a-Lago were momentous nonetheless
The president traveled to his Palm Beach County residence and private clubs nine times
spending all or parts of 31 days of his first hundred days in office here
He plans another four-day sojourn this weekend
with a Federal Aviation Administration alert suggesting he will arrive Thursday and depart Sunday
Florida is Trump's home state and a poll released in late March showed him still retaining a 52% favorable approval rating versus 44% not favorable across the Sunshine State
indicated some slippage in popularity given Trump carried the state in November with 56% of the ballots cast

Scheffler was 32-under through 16 holes until a bogey at the par-4 17th hole
when he came up short of the green on his tee shot and watched in dismay as his chip failed to reach the pin

He got the ball out over a high lip to give himself a chance

and 500 FedEx Cup points for his 14th PGA Tour victory and his first since winning the Tour Championship on Sept

his many millions of dollars and time split between LA and Ibiza
This is why he and his entrepreneur-podcaster wife
are building a luxury eight-storey residential complex metres from the sand at Palm Beach through their company YLB Property Developments
“I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world,” Paul tells Domain
when we came across the site on Jefferson Lane
Named Pescado – Spanish for fish and a nod to Paul’s Ibiza residency and second home – the $50-million development will feature six full-floor apartments, priced from $5.25 million, plus an expansive four-bedroom penthouse on the top two floors, which the couple and their nine-month-old daughter Bobbi plan to call their “forever home”.
“Life on the road can get pretty intense – it’s non-stop,” Paul says. “So, having a home like this to come back to, where we can properly unwind, means everything.
“Pescado will be our sanctuary. It will be our base, and where we can, we’ll be spending a lot of time here going forward.

“That was the whole point of creating this place – to have somewhere that really feels like home.”
The Fishers’ penthouse will look out over the ocean and Paul’s early stomping ground, and capture hinterland views out back – as will, to varying degrees, the three-bedroom, three-bathroom apartments below.
Residents will enjoy access to a resort-style swimming pool, gym, sauna and cold-plunge tub, and barbecue and dining facilities.
“The amenities [are] designed for connection, not chaos,” Paul says. “Spaces where we can spend time with family, share a meal with friends, take a swim, or reset with a workout or cold plunge.
“Wellness and balance were at the heart of every decision.”
The curvaceous facade of the BDA Architecture-designed building is designed to invoke the lines of the coast, Paul says.
The theme will continue inside the luxury pads, where Chloe has spearheaded the interior design vision with the support of BDA.
“Design has always been a huge passion of mine,” she says. “I’ve always taken the lead on the interiors of our homes in LA and Ibiza – layering textures, choosing tones and finding ways to bring warmth and personality into a space.”
Chloe has drawn inspiration from pieces and ideas from their travels.
The building’s “creative spirit” is said to be inspired by Bali’s iconic Potato Head beach club, striking a balance between elegance and everyday comfort.
Earthy, textured walls, travertine and “calm coastal energy” will feature throughout the project, with restrained pops of colour – soft blush pinks or sage greens – in an otherwise neutral palette, giving apartments their own subtle personalities.
Each home will include Gaggenau appliances, an integrated wine fridge and state-of-the-art laundry, among other attractions.
“Everything we’ve selected is tried and tested,” Chloe says. “We’ve either lived with it, stayed somewhere that used it, or had a great experience with it.
“We didn’t want anything just for the sake of it looking good – it has to work, feel good to live with and stand the test of time.”
Chloe says what is “incredibly rare” about the development is that each apartment will be finished to the exacting standard of its penthouse.
“We didn’t want a tiered experience where only the top floor gets the best,” she says.
The couple agree that what matters most when they’re home in Australia is the ability to unwind, spend time with friends and family, and switch off from work, and they believe this new development, and their private sanctuary above the ocean, will facilitate that.
“The penthouse has to tick a lot of boxes for us,” Paul says. “Not just in terms of views and design, but how it feels to live in every day.
“It’s where I disconnect from everything that comes with my career. It’s not about the stage or the spotlight – it’s about being Chloe, Paul and Bobbi Fisher.”

After a renovation lightened up the interiors, a Mediterranean-style townhouse built 25 years ago has sold for a recorded $11.4 million just north of The Breakers resort in Palm Beach
The price paid for 161 Main Street is significantly higher the “semi-detached” residence’s last sale
which was recorded at $4.81 million in August 2020
real estate investor Alexander Hufty Griswold sold the townhouse through a trust in in his name
He was joined on the document by his husband
who also handled the seller’s side of the transaction as a real estate agent with Flagship Co
The buyer was a Florida-registered limited liability company named after the property’s address and managed by real estate attorney Paul A
who declined to comment about the transaction
The buyer’s real estate agent was not identified in the closed sale listing in the multiple listing service
the townhouse has four bedrooms and 4,931 square feet of living space
Each residence has its own garage and private swimming pool
Doorack had the residence priced at $12.45 million when it sold
He first listed it at $15.5 million in January 2024 and ended up reducing the price four times
The residence left the market in June 2024 but was relisted in January
When Griswold bought the property in August 2020
its architecture was “heavy Mediterranean,” as he described it in for a 2024 article in the Palm Beach Daily News
“I wanted to make it more of a beach house
so we peeled back a lot of its ornamentation and formality,” Griswold told the Daily News last year about the renovation
The residence needed “a lot of cosmetic work to bring it (up) to today’s style and make it more livable and casual,” Griswold said in the article
A commercial real estate investor
Griswold has deep family roots in Palm Beach
He serves on the town’s Landmarks Preservation Commission
Among his real estate transactions in Palm Beach
Griswold in March paid about $12 million for the island’s only gas and service station
He bought that property through his company
He and investors have also bought and sold commercial and mixed-use properties on Royal Palm Way
The renovation of the townhouse included adding new wood flooring in some rooms and refinishing the stone floors in others
Crews also gutted the kitchen and replaced mechanical systems
The living room features a beamed ceiling and a gas fireplace with a stone mantelpiece
a bank of French doors accesses the loggia
which faces the new saltwater pool and yard
The townhouse’s layout also includes a formal dining room
A stairway and elevator provide access to the the mid-level rooms and the top floor
where the family room has a balcony and a covered terrace with views of The Breakers’ golf course
The garage on the lowest level accommodates two cars
Doorack was listed on the deed “only for purposes of waiving any constitutional homestead interest he may have” in the property

Two years ago, Toronto Maple Leafs fans learned the hard way to be careful what you ask for
Rather than renew a longstanding, and recently one-sided, playoff rivalry with the Boston Bruins, a gathered crowd outside of Scotiabank Arena infamously chanted "We want Florida!" in unison shortly after the Leafs eliminated the Tampa Bay Lightning from the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs
The Panthers obliged
rallying from a 3-1 series deficit and shocking Boston in overtime of Game 7 when Carter Verhaeghe delivered the winning goal
Florida proceeded to send the Leafs packing in the second round
winning three times in Toronto and clinching the series in five games via Nick Cousins' OT heroics
Miami Dolphins: A way-too-early, 53-man roster projection after 2025 NFL draft
"Nobody in the world thought we were going to be in this position," Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk told reporters following the Panthers' previous triumph in Toronto
"We don't care what anybody's opinion is."
It's safe to assume those feelings have since changed a bit, considering Florida's postseason pedigree. The defending champion Panthers
who advanced beyond the first round for the fourth straight year and has won eight of their last nine series overall
square off with the Leafs in a best-of-seven beginning at 8 p.m
Toronto will have home ice advantage after tallying 108 points during the regular season — 10 more than the Panthers
who won three of the four head-to-head meetings
Both teams survived regional rivalries in Round 1. Florida outscored the Tampa Bay Lightning 19-12 in a five-game romp, and Toronto slammed the door on the Ottawa Senators' comeback bid Thursday with a 4-2 road win to take the series in six
Here are five things to know ahead of the second all-time postseason matchup between the Panthers and the Maple Leafs
It will carry over to Monday's series opener in Toronto
that's not my job," Florida coach Paul Maurice said
"This would be viewed in our room as an injury
It would be viewed no different from Sam Bennett breaking his finger last year in the Tampa series and missing five games
"You're going to have really good players come in and out of your lineup
we've missed (Ekblad) 22 of the past 24 games
He didn't play anyway so we're not used to him being in our lineup anyway
Ekblad returned for Game 3 but had a minus-4 rating in a 5-1 defeat
He tied Game 4 with less than four minutes to play in the third period
and Seth Jones gave the Panthers the lead for good just 11 seconds later
fortifying weaknesses in the net and the right side of defense with the additions of Anthony Stolarz and Oliver Ekman-Larsson
made a career-high 33 starts during the regular season for the Leafs and posted a league-best .926 save percentage
He finished third in the NHL in goals-against average (2.14)
trailing only Vezina Trophy favorite Connor Hellebuyck (2.01) and Los Angeles Kings stalwart Darcy Kuemper (2.02)
The 31-year-old Stolarz has been solid between the pipes during the postseason
stopping 128 of the Senators' 142 shots (.901 save percentage) with a 2.21 GAA
scored twice against Ottawa — including the Game 1 opener at the 7:09 mark
The 33-year-old played more than 19 minutes per game in the first round
partnering Simon Benoit on the Leafs' third pair and occupying secondary roles on both the power play and the penalty kill
The longtime Bruin has tormented Toronto for more than a decade
37 assists) in 59 regular-season games against the Leafs; he's only been more proficient against Buffalo (68 points in 66 games) throughout his 16-year NHL career
He's kicked it up a notch at Toronto's expense in the playoffs
In the last three postseason head-to-head showdowns between the Bruins and the Leafs
16 assists) as Boston prevailed in seven games on each occasion
Acquired by Panthers general manager Bill Zito for a conditional 2027 second-round pick
which elevates to a first-rounder if Florida wins this series
Marchand dished out four helpers in the five games against the Lightning
He and linemates Anton Lundell and Eetu Luostarinen carried a team-best 56.7% expected goals share at five-on-five
according to hockey analytics site MoneyPuck
Panthers' penalty kill 'on point' in opening roundSpecial teams tipped the scales tremendously in the Panthers' favor against their in-state rival
Sergei Bobrovsky and Florida's PK unit stymied the star-studded Tampa Bay power play
getting the kill on 16 of 18 chances — including 15 consecutive kills between Games 1 and 5
The Lightning converted at a 25.9% rate during the regular season
Florida erased Art Ross Trophy winner Nikita Kucherov for the second straight year
limiting the league's leading scorer to just four assists
Jake Guentzel notched a team-high six points but had a minus-3 rating
Brayden Point produced just two goals and Brandon Hagel was held scoreless in his three appearances
missing a game apiece to suspension and injury
You need your PK to be on point," Panthers defenseman Gustav Forsling told reporters after Game 5
The Panthers finished a respectable 4-of-12 (25%) on the power play for the series
Toronto frequently rolls out five forwards on its top power-play unit — Auston Matthews
The Leafs connected six times (35.3%) on the power play against the Senators but surrendered a pair of shorthanded goals
No team in the Stanley Cup Playoffs faces more scrutiny and is under more pressure to win than the Maple Leafs
especially considering this could be the last chance for the so-called 'Core Four' — Matthews
Nylander and Tavares — to get over the hump
Toronto has competed in the playoffs each season since 2016-17 but advanced beyond the first round just twice
The Maple Leafs have not qualified for the Eastern Conference Final since 2001-02
and the franchise is starved to end a 58-year Stanley Cup drought
the Arizona-born superstar who has twice eclipsed the 60-goal mark
is signed through 2027-28 at an average salary cap hit of $13.25 million
who has nine points so far this postseason
is locked up through 2031-32 on a contract with an average annual value of $11.5 million
are due to enter unrestricted free agency on July 1
led the Leafs with 102 points during the regular season but has been criticized in the past for the team's postseason shortcomings; he has 58 points in 63 career Stanley Cup Playoff games
He stands to earn a raise on his current contract ($10.903 million AAV) should he hit the open market
but the former captain had his highest goal return (38) since his debut season in Toronto back in 2018-19
Toronto will get some relief as the NHL's salary cap rises to $92.4 million in the summer
but it has made long-term investments on defense for the likes of Morgan Rielly
22-year-old winger Knies needs a new deal as a restricted free agent following a 29-goal
and only so much patience in Toronto for repeated failures
Another exit at the hands of the Panthers could result in a major shakeup

MIAMI GARDENS — Oscar Piastri’s victory in the Formula One CRYPTO.com Miami Grand Prix was enough to spur the normally super low-key driver into a victory dance and compel his team principal to snap team selfies at the finish line
Most of all, it was a 200-mph boost of confidence for the McLaren Racing team, whose drivers Piastri and Lando Norris crossed the finish line 35-seconds ahead of the rest of the field
hold the first and second positions in the world championship standings and have hoisted five out of the six winner’s trophies on the season
It essentially all started right here in South Florida a year ago
Although teammates for three years now, the Brit Norris claimed his first F1 trophy, beating two-time Miami winner and multiple-time world champion Max Verstappen
in a dramatic day at the Miami International Autodrome last May
He answered with three more trophies in 2024 and closed in on Verstappen to finish second to him in the Drivers Championship - a hefty 63 points off pace

But Norris and Piastri’s work was good enough to help McLaren to the team – or constructor’s - title last year
it has created a new sense of high expectations and can-do for the 2025 season; a spirit that is absolutely working
“I think we got lapped twice that day in Miami two years ago,’’ the Australian Piastri said
managing a slight smile as he recalled that 2023 race
“Clearly last year with Lando’s win that was nice for the whole team in terms of finally having a car capable of winning a race again
But there was always the optimism and the determination
“I think Miami last season was the turning point in winning races because we could be the quickest on track and that’s an incredible place to be,’’ continued Piastri
who now leads the championship points by 16 over his teammate Norris and 32 over Verstappen
The determination and the hard work is still identical
just the joy and the celebrations are a bit more frequent
we’ve got a lot of competition and challenges
Being first now means we have less tunnel time
and that’s something that we’ve enjoyed over our competitors for the last few years
So we’re aware that there’s going to be some challenges with being in front
Lando Norris has five F1 podium finishesIn the six Formula One races this year
including a victory in the Australian season-opener
three runner-up showings and a third place
and Miami) and a third place showing at Japan
Red Bull Racing driver Verstappen owns the only other win (at Japan) this year
Asked if it is harder to contend with a teammate for the championship – as looks to be the case at least early on this season – both Piastri and Norris shook their heads
has had the enviable task of trying to keep the two young talents both competitive every single week
Does it make it that much harder racing wheel to wheel with a teammate
"We know pretty much exactly how one another drives
so from that side you have more information
“There are positives and negatives,’’ he conceded
“It’s always going to be close between us,’’ Piastri said
There will be weekends where Lando is stronger and weekends where I am stronger
We’re very aware of the fact we that we want this success for as long as we’re at McLaren
“But we don’t just want one opportunity at this success
We want it for the next however many years and that’s an important and easy thing to keep in mind for us and the whole team.’’
WEST PALM BEACH — Five Tenet hospitals in Palm Beach County have accused a national hospital-rating organization of orchestrating a “pay-to-play” scheme
favoring hospitals that participate in its surveys and failing those that don't
attorneys for Tenet said Leapfrog Group's grading system relies largely on self-reported and unaudited data and ranks hospitals according to their participation
The hospitals' attorneys said these ratings aren't just wrong
but dangerous — driving patients away from safe facilities and into the waiting rooms of worse ones
"The Leapfrog Group's business model is as simple as it is sinister: prey on public fear
distort the truth and profit from deception," the attorneys wrote in a federal lawsuit filed April 30
a nonprofit which claims to promote health-care transparency and safety
the group's attorneys rejected Tenet's "pay-to-play" characterization and said its patient safety data is credible
"Tenet is attempting to shoot the messenger instead of addressing the serious patient safety problems," wrote attorney Kimberly Blair in January
Blair said Leapfrog "encourages Tenet to make patient safety a priority and improve."
Seven attorneys from across the nation represent Good Samaritan Medical Center
Mary’s Medical Center and West Boca Medical Center
They said the facilities stopped responding to Leapfrog’s 100-page surveys during the COVID-19 pandemic
choosing instead to focus on meeting federal and specialty-specific health standards
The hospitals — which together treated about 470,000 patients last year — said that until 2024
Leapfrog graded them based on available data and never gave them lower than a "C."
when Leapfrog tweaked its methodology to fail nonparticipating hospitals automatically
Leapfrog gave the hospitals “D” and “F” ratings

“The integrity of information guiding patients' health care decisions must be beyond reproach," the attorneys said
has corrupted that trust — weaponizing fear
and misleading the public to serve its own craven financial interests."
Leapfrog's supposed mission of protecting patients is a "sham," the attorneys continued
The lawsuit points to examples where hospitals that earned top Leapfrog grades were simultaneously cited by federal regulators for life-threatening patient care deficiencies
received consecutive "A" grades from Leapfrog while government inspectors documented dangerous lapses in care
including delays blamed for patient deaths
It also cites multiple academic studies and statements from the American Hospital Association warning that Leapfrog’s methodology is unreliable and should not be used to guide patient decisions
the hospitals' attorneys said they asked Leapfrog to stop issuing misleading grades
"Hospital ratings and hospital safety grades are Leapfrog's opinion," Blair wrote in an email to Tenet's attorneys
"Courts nationwide have consistently held that such opinions are protected speech under the First Amendment."
Tenet's attorneys said “there is no First Amendment protection for deceptive practices."

First, kudos to West Palm Beach Mayor Keith James for somehow convincing officials at Palm Beach Atlantic University to revise their campus expansion plans
The mayor was quite accurate in describing a proposed 11-story parking garage as a "monstrosity" that would have potentially brought more traffic into an already congested downtown
Last month, PBAU officials won permission from city commissioners to build a 25-story tower and the massive garage along South Dixie Highway to boost campus enrollment by 2,000 students
contending that the massive garage would be an eyesore and disrupt hope of a pedestrian-friendly downtown
The question we're raising, though: Was it worth the loss of the city's building and planning director? Our answer is a resounding 'no,' but resignations like Rick Greene's are prone to happen when a strong mayor turns petulant
“He (the mayor) wasn’t happy with a presentation that one of my planners made,” Greene told Palm Beach Post reporter Andrew Marra
“He basically gave me the option of letting that employee go or

which prompted planners to approve the project

Greene went to the podium and explained that the staff had tried but failed to get the school to lower the garage height
Greene concluded that staff thought the garage had met city standards
"He was expecting her to say certain things at the city presentation," Greene told the Post
"What she presented wasn't the exact wording that the mayor wanted."
Although all city staff ultimately are answerable to the mayor in West Palm Beach
unwarranted and resulted in the resignation of a longtime city official whose experience in overseeing the city's growth and large-scale development in the planning and zoning process will be sorely missed
credit James with successfully obtaining a concession from the school and maintaining the city's long-term goal in addressing traffic and becoming more pedestrian-friendly
he must renew confidence in that process and fill the void at planning and zoning with someone who will insist on objective analysis for projects coming to the commission
Finding the right person should be an easy task for a strong mayor
Teacher Appreciation Week is here, bringing us an opportunity to reflect on the invaluable contributions educators make to our communities each and every day
These individuals are dedicated professionals
they are working hard to build better lives for themselves and their loved ones
As we recollect the teachers who made a difference in our own lives
we must also remember that true appreciation means respect — respect that shows up in the form of fair salaries
Florida’s elected leaders often say they value educators
the current state of public education tells a different story
a critical teacher and staff shortage means the number of qualified teachers and education support staff is shrinking
leaving students with less one-on-one attention and fewer resources
Students can’t thrive in classrooms where their educators are unsupported — and when we fail to invest in teacher working environments
we compromise the success of student learning environments
What compounds these issues for students is the very real choice educators must make: stay in a state that values their professions
According to the National Education Association’s (NEA) latest teacher pay report
Florida has once again ranked 50th in the nation for average teacher salary
While teacher salaries rose 3.3% in the 2023-24 school year
that increase fails to keep pace with inflation
leaving too many educators straining under the burden of a rising cost of living
inflation-adjusted teacher pay in Florida has dropped nearly 13 percent
The wage gap between teachers and other similarly educated professionals also persists
with Florida teachers earning just $0.78 for every dollar compared to their peers
according to the Economic Policy Institute
the financial strain on educators is reaching a breaking point
Forty percent of pre-K-12 teachers are working more than one job just to stay afloat
A quarter are struggling to afford groceries
and nearly as many face difficulty paying for housing
A teacher’s commitment stretches far beyond the classroom
forcing many to juggle two or three jobs just to be able to provide for their own families
More: Retiring Palm Beach County teacher reflects on cellphones, testing frenzies, tardies and more
or forced to leave the profession altogether
students lose the stable learning environments they deserve
teachers’ working conditions are students’ learning conditions
Every worker in Florida deserves a chance to earn enough to keep a roof over their heads
afford to see the doctor whenever they need
we’re calling on legislators to move beyond empty praise and show educators the respect they’ve earned — through meaningful action
That includes addressing salary compression for veteran teachers
and investing in neighborhood public schools that are the backbone of our communities
It’s time for lawmakers to support our public schools and let teachers teach
let’s honor our educators not just with gifts
Andrew Spar is president of the Florida Education Association
BOCA RATON — Aden Perry was 17 years old when he heroically died trying to save a man from drowning
is doing what she can to prevent anything similar from happening again
every other child that has lost their life in the water
About two years ago, Perry started an initiative to install life rings in waterways to prevent drownings, a move inspired by her son. Through her, the Aden Perry Foundation has since donated close to 500 life rings across South Florida
The latest was installed at Boca Raton's South Inlet park May 1
"I didn't invent the life ring," Perry said
Delray Beach: City's annual Pride Festival will go on, but officials worried about finances
The installation of the life ring buoy station at South Inlet Park comes through a partnership between the Aden Perry Foundation and the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department
At the May 1 unveiling, Ocean Rescue personnel performed a mock rescue in the inlet
It included a jet-ski deployment with a victim and a rescue swimmer on standby
while another guard demonstrated the proper use of the ring buoy station by throwing the life ring to assist the victim
can be easily accessed by people of any age
'We're all in this together': Live Spanish translation the star of this 'High School Musical' production
from the youngest child to grandma or grandpa
can use one of my life rings to save a life," Perry said
We install them at a height where they are easily accessible to a child or an adult
instructions at the buoy stations encourage people to dial 911
And they state that the rescue rings are for emergency use only
"It's important that somebody can grab them and go," Perry said
emphasizing the instructions for people to throw the life rings
rather than jump into the water themselves
"Every second counts in a water emergency."
SunFest: Will annual celebration return to West Palm Beach? First, ‘something’s got to change,’ director says
South Inlet Park's buoy station isn't the only one residents in Palm Beach County will see this summer
Three more of the stations were recently installed at Ocean Inlet Park in Boynton Beach
Phil Foster Park in Riviera Beach and Jupiter Beach Park
The initiative supports National Water Safety Month
observed annually in May to raise awareness about water safety and drowning prevention
Drowning is the primary cause of injury-related deaths in kids between the ages of 1 and 4
but it really means adult supervision at all times in some form," Fox-Levine said
Fox-Levine suggests that parents enroll children older than age 1 in swim lessons
she recommends a four-sided fence surrounding the pool with an automatic locking gate that should always be closed
Fox-Levine also encourages all parents to learn CPR
"You could really just Google 'CPR classes,'" she said
'City knew this was wrong': New 8-story Boynton affordable housing complex rankles neighbors
was walking her dog with her son the night he died
He had jumped into a lake where a driver had just landed
"He had a heart to give back and make a difference
Perry described Aden as the type of kid who always wanted to help others
It's a prestigious honor given by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission for civilian acts of heroism in the United States and Canada
Perry hopes to see her life ring initiative expand far beyond South Florida
"I would like to take this anywhere and everywhere that I possibly can," Perry said
MIAMI GARDENS — Tom Garfinkel, managing partner of the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix
is that both sides came to an understanding long before anyone was under the gun to make a commitment
Miami wanted F1 for the long haul
Oscar Piastri ended up taking the checkered flag in this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix
More: You wish you could navigate South Florida traffic like McLaren's Lando Norris | Habib
Think about it: It isn’t until next year’s Grand Prix that the two sides will hit the midpoint of their first contract
“Securing that long-term extension here kind of tells the world
we’re going to be here for a long time and we’re committed to this endeavor,” Garfinkel said hours before the weekend’s sold-out main event
“I think having the extension allows us to invest more into the property
whether that is potentially the very preliminary discussions right now — whether to have a night race or not.”
Before anyone jumps to conclusions on racing after dark
“There’s no plans to do that right now.” Maybe not
but Garfinkel and his team have done enough homework to know that installing lights would cost in the neighborhood of $15 million to $20 million
Garfinkel was orchestrating the weekend with an aching back
but race fans should be happy to know everything else about the situation has never seemed healthier
whether we’re talking on the track and off
race fans care about two things: The first is knowing there will be a race they can attend
The second is knowing the race will be worth watching
The weekend proved that not only is Item No
Last year everyone showed up expecting Max Verstappen to win
it added an element of surprise to the F1 series that had long been lacking
but you still could make a case for Piastri
Lando Norris or Verstappen at any given time
That includes the Sprint support race in Miami that managed to cram about 81 laps of drama into an 18-lap dash
Piastri took the lead for good in the Grand Prix on Lap 14 of the 57-lap race
but there was plenty of side-by-side battling going on as drivers jockeyed behind him
That included Ferrari teammates Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc
Hamilton did nothing to disguise his unhappiness with the team’s strategy over the radio
instructing those on the other end to “have a tea break.”
Piastri climbed from his car and celebrated by doing The Griddy
the touchdown dance favored by NFL players
Piastri was goaded into it after meeting Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson
Problem was Piastri didn't anticipate he'd win
Square in the middle of the weekend’s action was Kimi Antonelli
the 18-year-old who set the track record in Sprint qualifying
then proved it was no fluke when he bumped Piastri out of the No
3 slot on the starting grid for the Grand Prix
Antonelli was so busy setting firsts this weekend
you had to know he’s not going away anytime soon
Antonelli will be only 34 when Miami’s extension runs its course
That’s still is five years younger than Hamilton
spend no time feeling sorry for Verstappen
Even though he won the first two runnings of the Miami Grant Prix but finished fourth this go-round
he still came away hearing congratulations
He and girlfriend Kelly Piquet welcomed their first child together
flew to South Florida with little time to get reacquainted with the 19-turn circuit
This year’s event included a wrinkle that brought a smile to everyone’s face
More than 125 Miami Gardens students attended a Q&A session with drivers
then were surprised at the unveiling of life-sized Lego models of actual Formula 1 cars
The kids weren’t the only ones acting like kids
F1 drivers hopped in the electrically-powered Lego cars and did a parade lap around the circuit at a blistering 20-odd mph
Hamilton called it the most fun parade lap they’ve ever had despite “some of the dirtiest driving” by rivals
George Russell admitted that Norris was irked at him over a crash in their Legomobiles
All for an F1 series that spent most of the 1990s racing anywhere but in the United States
You could say things changed after Liberty Media bought F1 in 2016
Not only is Netflix’s “Drive to Survive” series creating a new set of fans
but June 27 will see the world premiere of “F1,” starring Brad Pitt and made by filmmakers responsible for “Top Gun: Maverick.”
Pitt’s car for the film was on display all weekend at Hard Rock Stadium
If there was one aspect of this year’s event that left no one smiling
it’s traffic around the stadium moving at about the same pace as Pitt’s car
Traffic was exacerbated by lane closures and construction on the adjacent Florida Turnpike
Yet another aspect of the event that had a distinct “Miami” feel
The Miami Open tennis tournament has been a success
Now it’s up to Stephen Ross’ other property — a certain local NFL team — to match the pace the Miami Grand Prix and F1 have set
“If we can build a great event around it that’s authentically Miami and unique and different than any other event
then hopefully that’s something people say
that’s one on the calendar I want to go to every year,’ ” Garfinkel said

Florida’s Palm Beach has always attracted the glitterati
way before President Donald Trump claimed his patch of this luxe locale
Railway tycoon Henry Flagler put the town on the map in the late 19th century
one of a range of luxury hotels he constructed along the Florida coast for his Gilded Age guests such as the Vanderbilts

between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic
the town of Palm Beach resembles an “inflated” Noosa Heads with less nature but a fancier history
The town’s principal star is the Mediterranean Revival architecture: pink- and ochre-tinged mansions with tile roofs

as does – for better or worse – president Trump who
pale pink mansion was built by wealthy socialite and philanthropist
She bequeathed the estate to the US government
intending it be used as a diplomatic and presidential retreat
the government returned Mar-a-Lago to the Post Foundation
Trump converted the building to the Mar-a-Lago Club
given Trump’s fondness for using the property as his political hub during his first presidency
Mar-a-Lago was dubbed “the second White House”
Mar-a-Lago remains off-limits (hint: for the best views

Despite the town’s glittering aspects and “closed club” reputation
And a stay here doesn’t have to bust your bank

is far from over at Palm Beach on the Gold Coast
BPG Developments has filed plans for a 14-storey tower comprising 68 apartments as well as three integrated double-level townhouses
It is earmarked for a 1760sq m site at 1053-1055 Gold Coast Highway that backs on to the exclusive beachfront Jefferson Lane enclave
Under the latest scheme designed by Plus Architecture
a mix of 42 two-bedroom and 22 three-bedroom apartments would be accommodated across levels 2 to 11 and the tower topped by four three-bedroom penthouses
A trio of double-level three-bedroom townhouses with private outdoor terraces would span the upper ground floor and level 1 fronting the Gold Coast Highway
According to an assessment report by Mewing Planning Consultants
the townhouses would “provide product differentiation and choice”
the dwellings will attract a range of people and demographics to live within the area,” it said
The proposed tower and its material palette have been designed to “reference Queensland’s coastal vernacular”
“The proposal provides a high-quality and contemporary architectural design outcome that responds to the continually developing and diverse tower forms within Palm Beach,” the report said
The upper ground level oriented to Jefferson Lane also incorporates 454sq m of communal open space area
The lower ground level includes an entrance and lobby as well as providing vehicular access to 109 carparking spaces
There has been no shortage of proposals for the southern Gold Coast enclave as it leaves its low to midrise past behind
That includes Christie Leet’s Sherpa Property Group filing upscaled plans for its Palm Beach site in November of last year after a court ruling deemed increased building heights “the natural order of change”
The ruling prompted Sherpa to lodge a new tower scheme five storeys higher than its initial proposal pitched just two months previous
In September, Gold Coast developer Tim Gordon and billionaire pub baron Bruce Mathieson revealed plans for a luxury sequel to their $300-million The Mantaray Marina and Residence project

the Town Council addressed a range of important issues
As concerns grow over gridlock in the town
council members approved new measures aimed at improving traffic flow
During its December meeting at Town Hall, the council reviewed 28 traffic mitigation proposals intended to ease congestion on the island
and revised timelines for capital projects
Other initiatives remain under review or have failed to gain approval
He pointed out that although the Coast Guard oversees the bridges into town, Mayor Danielle Moore successfully lobbied to cut bridge openings from twice to once an hour during morning and afternoon rush hours
However, the number does not reflect bridge openings triggered by barge traffic to and from Palm Beach County’s Bonefish Cove Project
but the meeting and the communications did not stop,” Blouin said
Work on the Bonefish Cove Project is expected to continue until August
while the closure of South Ocean Boulevard tied to Trump's visits to Palm Beach occur regularly
During her state-of-the-town address at the Citizens' Association of Palm Beach's annual meeting in February
Moore acknowledged the difficulties South End residents encounter when traveling to the center of town during South Ocean Boulevard closures
But she emphasized that the town is taking steps to alleviate traffic on the island, citing efforts by council member Lew Crampton and Council President Bobbie Lindsay to create a parking and traffic program for the town
She also highlighted the town’s new Planning
and Building Department software that allows for online applications
"So anything that decreases traffic in Midtown is a good thing."
Other key issues addressed by the council during the winter season included development
The council reviewed a number of major development projects brought forward this season, including a substantial renovation and expansion of the Society of the Four Arts, a redevelopment of Palm Beach Synagogue, and the construction of a subterranean parking garage and Family Entertainment Center at The Breakers
In January, the council approved a long-planned redevelopment project proposed by Palm Beach Synagogue that would expand and renovate the partially landmarked site at 120 N
The vote came after nine hours of discussion and deliberation that included input from design and planning professionals
and dozens of residents and synagogue members who spoke in favor of and in opposition to the project
In February, council members approved a special exception and site plan for the Four Arts to renovate and expand its Esther B
along with some landscaping and signage around the organization's 10-acre Midtown campus
At its April meeting, the council approved an updated plan for parking and traffic management at the Four Arts
council members granted approvals for The Breakers to replace its 12,136-square-foot
two-story Family Entertainment Center with a new 16,675-square-foot
and build a large subterranean parking lot and a small surface level lot for a combined 849 parking spaces
A final council vote on the project is set for May
A scheduled review by the council of plans to replace the Ambassador hotel and an adjacent lakeside building with three five-story ultra-luxe condos were put on hold in April after council members expressed concerns about the condition of the building
The structure was later declared safe by the owner's structural engineer and the town
The council continues to await word on a potential agreement between Paramount Theatre owner Lester Woerner and the town over the proposed redevelopment of the historic property
Attorneys for Woerner's company, WEG Paramount, LLC, and the town remain engaged in discussions to settle their long-running dispute
with each side expected to submit a report detailing developments in the case by June 3
Discussions between the two parties began in February, following Woerner’s request to postpone a contested hearing before Judge Francine Ffolkes
The dispute between Woerner and the town stems from the town council's July 10, 2024, denial of WEG Paramount's special exception request for a 475-member private club on the property at 139 N
A yearlong effort to update the town's Comprehensive Plan ended in February after the council voted unanimously to adopt the document following input from town officials
sets the foundation for decisions town leaders and departments will make going forward
such as the goals of the town’s coastal protection program and how much traffic can fill island roads before town staff must step in
In November, the Town Council voted to approve the draft
The Comprehensive Plan was reviewed by the state for 60 days before it was sent back to town staff in January
The town rolled out its paid parking system on Worth Avenue and South County Road in October
New metered spaces replaced all the spaces — most of them free — on the 100 to 400 blocks of all the streets south of Seaview Avenue to Hammon Avenue
controls what a motorist pays and how long the car can stay in a space without penalty
Run time and parking session limits are available on the town's website
The changes have drawn both praise and criticism
In a statement to the Daily News last fall
the Worth Avenue Association thanked the town for crafting a plan that took town businesses into consideration
though some residents and visitors have complained about the elimination of free parking and the difficulty of using the ParkMobile app
Residents who bought the resident parking permits introduced in November 2023 can park for two hours at any metered space at no additional charge
UndergroundingThe town's undergrounding project is ongoing
$128 million town-wide project will bury all overhead
phone and cable television lines across the town
All of the project's 15 construction zones are either complete or funded for construction
"We're looking at a final completion date of 2027
Water contractThe town continues to explore potential water providers ahead of the Oct
expiration of its current agreement with the city of West Palm Beach
After reviewing six options provided by environmental consultant Kimley-Horn in 2022
the town narrowed its list to two: continuing the current water-supply contract with the city of West Palm Beach and collaborating on a membrane-technology upgrade at its treatment plant; and contracting with the city of Lake Worth Beach — which does utilize membrane technology — to provide water
The current water contract has two possible five-year extension options
and Moore said there is "little doubt" the town will need to exercise at least one of them to allow more time for deliberation

vehicles and technology have been in the spotlight this season for Palm Beach Fire-Rescue
A major renovation and rehabilitation of Palm Beach's North Fire Station at 300 N. County Road was completed
paving the way for crews to fully move in and begin using the facility this spring
The $17 million renovation took nearly three years
and crews operated out of a temporary station throughout the work
we've been able to have everybody under one roof again here at North Fire," said Assistant Fire Chief Joe Sekula
Having the crews and vehicles in permanent quarters has been a relief
noting that there were space constraints for both people and equipment
and the vehicles were more vulnerable to the effects of the outdoors and salty sea air
and upgrades were included in that process
The new firehouse has a Plymovent air-handling system that removes vehicle exhaust from the bays
The bay doors also were improved to open horizontally instead of rising up
like residential garage doors — a process that made it take much longer for trucks to leave the station
because the solid wood doors were so heavy
"The great thing about the station has been that while we have reinforced and redone the station to bring it up to modern standards
we also pride ourselves in that we've been able to preserve the history of the station as well," he said
"We didn't want to totally bring it back and not harness some of that history."
Some of those modern improvements can be seen in the living space
where crews spend a significant amount of time
The changes range from the functional — a state-of-the-art kitchen and dining room — to the more aesthetic: there are places where the original brick walls are exposed
"It's a constant use over and over and over."
A new alert system in the station provides more detail and a more visual
new timer boards tell crews how long it takes them to get out the door
"We measure everything in seconds," Sekula said
Speaking of seconds — Sekula said the department has launched several systems using new-to-the-island technology to help keep response times low amid the issues with traffic in Palm Beach
Fire-Rescue crews are able to control traffic signals so that they change in favor of emergency vehicles
The department at the beginning of the season began using a new system called HAAS Alert
which notifies compatible vehicle infotainment systems and navigation apps — vehicles made by Chrysler
and people who use Apple Maps or Waze — that an emergency vehicle is approaching
"We deployed that as a trial on one unit of our engines
and it's worked so well that we've decided that we're going to add this to all of our units," Sekula said
Both tools allow Fire-Rescue crews to respond quickly
Also new this season: A quick response vehicle that can be used to quickly navigate to medical calls when traffic is backed up
Sekula said it can take a small crew to a call
make contact with a patient and even carry a person on a stretcher back to a waiting emergency vehicle for more treatment or to go to a hospital
That's in addition to a state-of-the-art emergency response vehicle worth $75,000 donated to the town by the Trump Organization this spring
The gift of the EMS Paramedic Responder vehicle was made through the Palm Beach Police & Fire Foundation
Capping off a busy season of training and recertifications
Palm Beach's Fire-Rescue formed its first competition RIT
After their first competition earlier this year
the team is set to compete again in a statewide event at Palm Beach State College
"They did very well for their first outing
and they were very well-respected for what they did
in being in their first competition," he said
The department made great progress this season on its automated external defibrillator
to be able to have that many registered AEDs
It's part of a larger initiative with Fire-Rescue working with the Palm Beach Police & Fire Foundation's Safeguard Palm Beach division to place 500 defibrillators throughout town
Safeguard Palm Beach delivers the defibrillators
and Fire-Rescue staff then train the residents or business owners how to use the devices to treat people who experience sudden cardiac arrest
The town started with places defibrillators in homes
"The goal is to be the safest community around," he said
we want there to be an AED close by that can be used."

Thanks to the influence of Henry Flagler, Palm Beach has over the decades carved for itself a reputation as the place to be during high society's winter season
But one high-profile year-round resident has put the island in the center of the spotlight of local
national and international news for a second time
With his Nov. 5 win, President Donald Trump has brought the eyes of the world back to Palm Beach — with all of the traffic
attention and visitors that recognition includes
Here's a look at the 2024-2025 season in Palm Beach as Trump occupies the White House for a second term
How often has Trump visited Palm Beach this season?Trump lovingly refers to Mar-a-Lago as his Winter White House — and this season
he truly made the 17-acre historic property his home away from the White House in Washington
kicked off a marathon stay by Trump at Mar-a-Lago
4 ahead of Election Day — his polling place is the Morton and Barbara Mandel Recreation Center
where he and First Lady Melania Trump voted on Nov
Trump returned to Palm Beach for 10 weekends
spending all or part of 35 days at Mar-a-Lago
announced that he ordered airstrikes in Somalia and declared new tariffs on items imported from Canada
During his visits, Trump has traveled to both of his Palm Beach County golf courses — primarily Trump International Golf Club. He went to Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter the weekend of April 5-6
which is when that club had its senior championship
Before Trump's inauguration, people close to him and town officials had said they expected the president to visit Mar-a-Lago more frequently than he did during his first term in office
Mar-a-Lago is Trump's primary residence: He and the First Lady filed declaration of domicile forms in Palm Beach County in 2019 to officially mark their move from New York to Florida
Accompanying Trump on several of his visits were billionaire Elon Musk and his son
Musk has played a key role in the early months of Trump's second term as the tech titan led the budget-slashing team of the new Department of Government Efficiency
further complicating an already challenging situation with traffic on the island
when Trump and two other people were injured and another person was killed during an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania
Secret Service directed the indefinite closure of South Ocean Boulevard next to Mar-a-Lago — essentially cutting the island in half by shutting down the road between the Southern Boulevard traffic circle and South County Road
Mar-a-Lago and Florida Department of Transportation announced they reached an agreement to reopen South Ocean Boulevard when Trump is not home
which kicked off a stay of more than two months
Residents returning to Palm Beach for the season from September through November were met with a frustrating traffic quagmire that slowed down nearly everything on the island
"It shouldn't take me an hour to get to Royal Palm Way," one South End resident told the Daily News in January
"I feel disconnected from the rest of town
Police and Fire-Rescue officials have said the implementation of new technology — advanced alerts
new radios and traffic-signal controls — before and during the season helped to keep response times the same or lower than before the road closure
Town officials were inundated with concerns about traffic
and they have worked throughout the season to mitigate the effects of the road closure on a barrier island already trying to deal with the effects of growth
Drivers seem to have adapted to the situation throughout the season
the island could see more traffic into next season
it’ll be an opportunity for us to refresh and remind everyone how to handle traffic in town and to look for even more creative solutions,” he said
Known as ‘Swell’, the 992 square metre offering has two street frontages, making it an ideal as a holiday letting.
The property, 12 Ocean Road, Palm Beach, last changed hands in 2014 and has since been reimagined.
“’Swell’ stands in a dress-circle location directly opposite the beach and consists of a luxury two-level exquisitely designed beachfront home, a privately set wet-edge pool, pool terrace, entertaining space, gym and an architecturally designed fully self-contained one-bedroom residence,” the listing says.
The second dwelling, known as ‘High Swell’, is accessed via Sunrise Road and is an architect-designed fully self contained residence.
‘High Swell’ has its down open plan kitchen, dining and living area, as well as a separate bedroom with en suite and robes and its own large entertaining area with barbecue facilities.
Walls of glass have been used both in the main house and separate residence to make the most of the panoramic ocean and beach views.

He points out that Palm Beach is quickly becoming a standalone name on the Gold Coast

Canadian financier Steven K. Hudson has sold — for a recorded $16.5 million — the luxury townhouse he had owned since September 2023 on Brazilian Avenue in Midtown Palm Beach
Crystal Crosby Lahners bought the four-bedroom townhome at 220 Brazilian Ave. near the Town Hall historic district
Lahners made the purchase as trustee of a revocable trust in her name
The townhouse transaction is the biggest-dollar sale to close for a Palm Beach townhouse during the season that began Oct
the townhome has 5,435 square feet of living space
and shares a wall with an identical unit next door
the duplex stands on a lot measuring about four-tenths of an acre and is the second property west of South County Road
Hudson bought the townhouse for a recorded $14.35 million from a limited liability company controlled by private-equity specialist David Malm
bought it new for $12 million in January 2023
a Toronto-headquartered company that provides “prime credit portfolios” to more than 90 U.S
He has bought and sold other real estate in Palm Beach
He had the house homesteaded as his primary residence in the latest Palm Beach County tax rolls
With ties to the Sarasota area, Lahners was married for 21 years to the late Dr. William J. Lahners, an eye surgeon who died in December 2021, his obituary shows. He was a partner and medical director of Center for Sight, which has five locations in Sarasota and its vicinity, according to company's website
He also was an assistant clinical professor of ophthalmology at the University of South Florida and a principal investigator in several FDA trials
The Center for Sight changed hands in 2019
Crystal Lahners owns no other properties in her name in Palm Beach County
a Sarasota estate she completed last year on Siesta Key for $31.5 million
which is reportedly the most expensive residential property on the market in Sarasota County
The listing agent for the Palm Beach townhouse was Chris Leavitt of Douglas Elliman Real Estate
who put the townhouse on the market in October with an asking price of $16.875 million
The service shows he landed the property under contract about three weeks later
Leavitt declined to discuss the transaction
and his client could not be reached for comment
Agent Ashley Copeland of Brown Harris Stevens handled the buyer's side of the sale
She and Lahners also declined to discuss the sale

Both townhouses in the gated development have private two-car garages
The interiors feature hardwood and shell-stone floors and a custom-outfitted Downsview kitchen with Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances

The upper level also has three guest suites with en-suite bathrooms
Architect Patrick Ryan O'Connell designed the two townhouses, which were built by billionaire real estate investor Richard J. Kurtz
a longtime resident who heads The Kamson Corp.
The company manages about 15,000 multi-family buildings in the Northeast and Florida
Seller Hudson is no stranger to townhouses in Palm Beach. In early 2023, he sold, for $26.66 million, a new oceanfront townhouse in a quadplex at 466 S
He had owned that townhouse for about six months
having bought it for a recorded $25.58 million from its developer
While bird flu has been around for decades, the discovery in 2024 that the deadly pathogen spread from a wild bird to a cow came as a surprise to virus watchers, according to news officials
the virus has ravaged America's dairy herds
The Global Virus Network (GVN) has issued warning to world governments to address the threat of the H5N1 outbreak by improving surveillance
and preparing for potential human-to-human transmission
"Understanding the current landscape of H5N1 infections is critical for effective prevention and response," said Sten H. Vermund, MD, PhD, chief medical officer of the GVN
"The virus' ability to infect both animals and humans
underscores the importance of proactive surveillance and rapid response measures."
the new virus outbreak has affected nearly 1000 dairy cow herds
resulted in more than 70 human cases and one confirmed death in the U.S
and has caused the loss or culling of more than 168 million poultry since 2022
“In the U.S. sporadic human infections with no known contact with infected animals highlight the possibility of viral adaptation for efficient human-to-human transmission,” GVN scientists said in a report
the virus continues to circulate in wild birds
further amplifying the risk to humans and domestic animals.”
In a CBS news interview with Veterinarian Dr
she warned that time to stop the bird flu is 'running out'
She said while it's not clear how the virus was spreading from cow to cow
'milking equipment is a prime suspect' and workers in milking parlors have also fallen sick with flu-like symptoms
Infectious disease physician Dr. Kamran Khan said in the same interview
was among the first to flag the virus in China that became the COVID pandemic
He said 'the bird flu is just as concerning' and explained how fast the virus has spread among dairy cattle
What is H5N1?H5N1 is a specific strain of influenza A virus
The avian flu is a highly contagious respiratory disease that primarily affects birds
including mammals like dairy cows and humans
Symptoms can be mild to severe and in some cases
The symptoms of H5N1 infection may include fever (often high fever, over 100.4 degrees) and malaise, cough, sore throat, and muscle aches.
