A 146-hectare property to be restored for koala habitat and provide for future environmental offsets has been acquired by City of Gold Coast Council
was strategically chosen through the Koala Habitat Acquisition Program
“The Gold Coast has some of the most important koala habitat and populations in South East Queensland and we are committed to protecting and nurturing our koalas,” Mayor Tate said
“City officers will now take steps to begin restoring cleared areas as koala habitat by planting native vegetation and removing any weeds
“Restoring this land is part of our work to support the long-term viability of the east Coomera koala population and secure a Northern Koala Corridor from Coomera and Pimpama through to the hinterland.”
The acquired land connects Gainsborough Parklands
Old Wharf Road Parklands and Pimpama Conservation Area allowing for improved management
The property also secures connectivity along 4km of the Pimpama River and Hotham Creek
allowing the City to restore a buffer to improve regional water quality outcomes
The new parcel of land is another step the City is taking to help protect koalas which includes:
The land is currently used for sugar cane farming
which will be phased out over time in consultation with farmers

$40m sales: Buyers out in force at first auction testViva Hyde
More than $40m worth of real estate was sold over six hours as the first big test of the 2025 auction market returned an impressive 70 per cent clearance rate
Ray White Queensland chief auctioneer Gavin Croft said buyer appetite was as strong as during the peak of the Covid-19 property frenzy
with 600 bids fielded from more than 270 registered bidders vying for 66 homes at the Gold Coast Auction Experience
“We’ve held several of these Gold Coast in-room events and that was the highest registered
It was also the strongest clearance rate since Covid,” Mr Croft said
Mr Croft said first-home buyers brought the auction day buzz
“The energy from buyers was as competitive as it was back in 2020 when the south east
Queensland real estate market just took off
“They played a big role in the bidding and a lot of entry level stock between that $650,000 to
waterfront properties were also hotly contested
“When we moved up into a higher price range
generally the bidding on a lot of waterfront property was very competitive.”

“The buyer lives in the area but they wanted to be on the water,” Mr Paul said
“We had about 104 groups through during the campaign with a huge range of buyers
“We had two groups who flew up from Tasmania
someone from Sydney and even an Australian expat living in Turkey who registered from overseas.”
Ray White Queensland CEO Jason Andrew said the event represented the firing gun for the Queensland real estate calendar
“We had nearly 70 highly sought-after Gold Coast properties go under the hammer and from
the stage was set for a competitive day,” Mr Andrew said
“We had multiple bidders on every property
There are so many buyers looking to get in to beat the interest rate decrease rush and that’s inevitably going to come
“There’s reports of excess stock coming to market but we also have increased buyer interest

Despite being one of Australia’s fastest-growing suburbs for the past few years
this Gold Coast pocket has largely flown under the radar with investors and recent arrivals from southern states – until now
Compared to better-known pockets on the Goldie
Pimpama still has a fairly affordable entry price point
But a surge in demand recently for properties in proximity to the beach has sparked extraordinary growth
Local agent Jason Atkinson from Ray White Pimpama said despite being on the northern fringe of the Gold Coast
the area is in a strategically desirable location
“It provides a central point between Brisbane
the Gold Coast and the Scenic Rim,” Mr Atkinson said
Early construction works began in late 2021 on a local train station that will make commuting either north or south much more convenient
“There’s a massive amount of money being invested into local infrastructure such as the Pimpama Sports Hub
the Home Focus [lifestyle and homemaker centre] and the upcoming train station,” Mr Atkinson said
as well as an ever-expanding range of local amenities
A current listing for a four-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Pimpama
The median house price has surged by 20.4% to $560,000 over the 12 months to January
while the median unit price is up 3.6% to $420,000
Although generously sized family-style detached dwellings are the dominant housing type and most sought-after by buyers
“The market has seen a huge increase in buyer demand over the past year
partly driven by the increase in interstate buyers seeking a change and first-home buyers looking to take advantage of low interest rates and get into the market,” Mr Atkinson said
“This in turn has caused a considerable increase in property prices
Pimpama still represents great value for money compared to other areas in southeast Queensland
with modern and near-new homes in a great location.”
Pimpama was Australia's fourth most-searched enquired about suburb among first-time buyers
The entire Gold Coast region has been in extremely high demand in recent times
Queensland has long been a sea-change destination
but with housing affordability declining in the southern capitals and jobs now able to be done from anywhere in the COVID era
the Sunshine State is growing in popularity
PropTrack senior economist Eleanor Creagh said
"So much so that in the past 12 months
74% of interstate searches into Queensland came from New South Wales and Victoria," Ms Creagh said
"With southerners headed to Queensland in droves
coastal suburbs are all seeing strong relative growth
driven by remote work ability and demand for lifestyle areas that are also close to cities
This modern resort-style property sold for $1.28 million in December
Strength in the upper-end of the market has been particularly strong, with the recent sale of 46 Bunderoo Circuit an example of demand for big homes with every modern convenience

“It was a Pimpama sale record for a non-acreage property,” Mr Atkinson said
The pool area overlooking a nature reserve at 19 Whitsunday Circuit
He also sold 19 Whitsunday Circuit – an oversized five-bedroom home backing onto a nature reserve in the same estate – in November for $1.1 million
“We are now seeing million dollar-plus sales as a regular occurrence in Pimpama,” he said
Expectations of a slow start to the year during the traditionally quiet summer period didn’t eventuate
with Queensland’s southeast continuing its strong run in January
although a scarcity of stock has seen intense competition
Construction has commenced on the new Pimpama train station
Would-be buyers should do their homework to identify the particular neighbourhoods they want to purchase in
“Within Pimpama there are many different estates that offer unique benefits with a range of properties to suit all budgets and needs
I would encourage buyers to ask local agents about the particular estate that each house is situated in and the benefits that estate has to offer.”
Minister for Transport and Main RoadsThe Honourable Mark Bailey
Work has begun today on a major upgrade of the Exit 49 (Pimpama) Interchange to improve safety and bust congestion on the M1
on and off-ramp upgrades and new signalised intersections to replace roundabouts will keep traffic moving safely and efficiently
The $110.768 million project is funded 50:50 between the Australian and Queensland governments
including a developer contribution of $305,000
The project is expected to be complete in 2024
weather and construction conditions permitting

Regional Development and Local Government Minister Catherine King:
"I'm pleased to announce Queensland based company Seymour Whyte is starting work to transform the M1 interchange at Pimpama
"The upgrade will reduce queueing on the M1 and keep traffic moving efficiently and safely through the busy interchange
"This investment will ease pressure on a known bottleneck on the northern end of the Gold Coast and help improve commuter times
who will find themselves getting home sooner and safer once the upgrade is complete."
Quotes attributable to Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey:
"Pimpama is one of the fastest growing regions in the country and today we are kicking off works to help new and old Pimpama residents home safer
“We know the community here has outgrown the dual roundabout interchange which is why signalised intersections will be created on either side
“The changes will minimise the frustrating time spent exiting the M1 in either direction
all while keeping traffic flowing over the M1 thanks to a new overpass
we’ve got you covered with new bike lanes and pathways for safer travel also being built into the upgrade
“This is a big project that will support about 175 good Queensland jobs over the life of the project
and will benefit local suppliers along the way
“The Palaszczuk Labor Government is backing the Gold Coast like never before
as evidenced by our seventh record road and transport budget
“The Gold Coast is growing so our transport infrastructure needs to keep pace
which is why we’re delivering over $5 billion in projects across Logan
“That’s seven times more than the Queensland LNP committed to keep the Gold Coast moving in their last transport budget
better Gold Coast and we’re building it right now.”
Quotes attributable to Gold Coast-based Queensland Government Minister Meaghan Scanlon:
and our city needs the infrastructure and services to accommodate the 800,000 people that’ll call it home by the time the Olympics roll around
“That’s why we’re investing in three new train stations
“This upgrade is something I know local families have been looking forward to
Gold Coast families are seeing a pipeline of projects for our city that’ll rapidly come online
“Major investments in roads and health now means better services
good jobs and protecting our great lifestyle as we grow.”

OPINIONTHERE’S been a particular suburb starting to crop up in property data sets of late that you don’t see too often
or Currumbin (although they do continue to dominate the news for just about everything from stellar house-price growth to where the latest celebrity was spotted sipping their chai latte)
The suburb in question does appear in the news
but it’s usually for all the wrong reasons
30 minutes’ drive northwest of the Gold Coast
a place to which most locals have probably never been (and possibly hope they never will)
was sold by Shane Perry of LJ Hooker Solutions for $572,000
the suburb has made an appearance in Well Home Loans’ Green Shoots Report of suburbs to watch in Queensland in 2022
Pimpama came in a respectable ninth on a list of 20 locations in the report
which identifies areas currently showing the clearest signs that strong price growth is just around the corner
MORE NEWS: What an interest rate rise means for your suburb
Couple trade their home to beat the heated market
It is based on decreasing inventory levels (Pimpama’s has dropped 45.6 per cent) and days on market (down 14 per cent)
and rising median asking prices (up 2 per cent) over the October quarter
Well Home Loans chief executive Scott Spencer said when inventory levels and days on market were falling
it meant buying conditions were becoming harder
suggesting prices in the suburb were likely to rise for months
According to local estate agent Shane Perry of LJ Hooker Solutions
sold for $920,00 through Phillis Real Estate
is that was predominantly made up of investment properties
but owner-occupiers have started moving in and now account for 40 per cent of households
“Years ago spruikers sold land and house packages to a stack of investors from interstate
making claims that their properties would be worth $500,000 and bring them big rental returns
with Covid now giving those who didn’t a golden ticket because prices in the past 12 months have risen incredibly
“Last year I was selling homes for $420,000 to $450,000
Now entry-level homes go for $500,000 to $600,000.”
is on the market for offers of more than $1.2m through LJ Hooker Property Hub
According to REA the median house price in Pimpama is $519,000
up 15.9 per cent from $458,750 at the same time last year
Mr Perry said: “We used to struggle to get anyone to an open home
“There are so many people wanting to move to Queensland
They can’t all afford or find somewhere to live along the Coast
“Because Pimpama is still relatively affordable there are a lot of first-home buyers coming here
These couples eventually have children and then you get downsizers moving in
which is when gentrification comes about.”
The establishment of the Gainsborough Green masterplanned community has also helped to attract buyers to the suburb
which in turn brings infrastructure and retailers such as Bunnings and
Pimpama is also set to gain a rail station as part of the Cross Rail expansion
is also one of the least likely to be affected by a rate rise
should the Reserve Bank decide to raise interest rates sooner than expected
Now I’m not saying that access to a Bunnings sausage sizzle is enough to make someone up sticks and head west
and if the Well Homes report predictions prove correct
it may be worth long-term investors and those wanting to get a foot on the property ladder taking a closer look
but we don't want to lose you.\"}],[\"$\",\"div\",null,{\"className\":\"notfound-page__text-block\",\"children\":\"We recently updated the way we organise our articles

the Coalition’s failure to sway voters has

its plan to allow mortgage interest for first home buyers to be tax-deductible was roundly criticised for its likely inflationary and regressive effects.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIt has also been pointed out

The project, midway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, has been instrumental in transforming the coastal city’s northern growth corridor
the house and land development is now home to more than 5000 residents in homes built among 173ha of conservation area and koala habitat
Mirvac general manager of residential development in Queensland Warwick Bible said the sold-out project had been popular due its green focus
33ha of westlands and more than 13km of walking and cycle trails
early on so new residents could get a sense of what it would become,” Bible said
“Every home is within a five-minute walk of a park or greenspace
“Mirvac has developed a total of seven parks
which is now a destination for residents from across the northern Gold Coast and further afield.”
Bim’bimba Park was created by landscape contractors Naturform in partnership with Form Landscape Architects
It was constructed using predominantly recycled materials
Mirvac invested $13 million in its display village for the project and by mid-2016 had completed more than 400 homes
The final homesite is now due to settle in December
“Gainsborough Greens has appealed to first-home buyers and families
because of its focus on greenspace,” Bible said
buyers have been drawn to the estate’s relative affordability and location—in commuting distance of the Gold Coast and Brisbane.”
Pimpama is now a hive of development activity
The Gold Coast is one of Queensland's fastest-growing regions with its population increasing from 500,000 to almost 600,000 residents in the past decade
the population in the northern suburbs jumped by 31 per cent to more than 74,000 people after the construction of sprawling housing estates
With an additional 350,000 new residents expected by 2041
with the region’s north doing the heavy lifting
posting an 8 per cent increase in operating profit after tax of $596 million as revenue surged 27.5 per cent to $2.3 billion
Continued demand for residential housing translated to strong results for Mirvac’s master-planned communities’ portfolio
with gross margins of 25 per cent well up on the target of between 18 and 22 per cent
The developer settled 2523 residential lots across the recent financial year
Mirvac has also been trailing a new prefabrication model to cut build time by almost 25 per cent and reduce labour hours by 11 per cent for its new townhouse and residential construction portfolio
The developer started putting prefabricated bathroom pods in its apartments years ago and it had taken five years to refine the process and products to the level where they have now become a standard feature
The company is now aiming to combine prefabricated walls
floors and bathrooms at its 300-home Riverlands project in Sydney to maximise the work done in the controlled environment of a factory and reduce on-site construction
Locals are getting their first look at the final design for the new Pimpama train station, marking the next exciting step towards connecting one of Australia’s fastest growing communities to South East Queensland’s heavy rail network
Pimpama is one of three new stations – alongside Hope Island and Merrimac – being delivered on the Gold Coast through Cross River Rail
ADCO Constructions was appointed to design and construct the station
work has been underway to finalise the design of the station in parallel with the construction program
Transport and Main Roads Minister Bart Mellish said it is important that the government gets the new Pimpama station built
“Pimpama is one of the fastest growing suburbs in Australia
which makes it so important that residents can make the most of our rail revolution,” he said
“Building this station means Pimpama locals won’t need to commute to Ormeau or Coomera station to jump on the train
which will make a huge difference for locals
“The new Pimpama station won’t just benefit Gold Coasters when it opens – it is supporting 535 jobs for Queenslanders during construction
“We want to make sure this station meets the needs of Pimpama locals
which is why we’ve made a number of changes to the design after receiving feedback from the community
“Pimpama will be a fully accessible station
and include through-lifts on each platform
“Thanks to all the workers that are helping to get this important project over the line – your work will make a huge difference in the lives of Gold Coasters in the future.”
The new Pimpama station will include lifts on each platform
Significant progress is being made at Pimpama
with 189 piles already installed for the station’s platform foundations and retaining wall
Meanwhile builders are preparing to put in the structural steel frames for the platforms
as well as new overhead electrical portals that will span the station building
Major construction is expected to be completed by late 2024
Following several crucial stages to ensure the station can operate safely and efficiently
including a period of extensive testing and commissioning and integration with existing public transport services
Pimpama station is then expected to open in 2025
early works and site set up activities are underway at Hope Island and Merrimac stations
with major construction to begin at both sites in the coming months
