Photo: Dave Hunt/AAP PHOTOSCanterbury are set to lose Jacob Preston for at least three weeks as Melbourne forwards Trent Loiero and Stefano Utoikamanu breathe a sigh of relief after the NRL charge sheet came out
Star second-rower Preston will cop three weeks on the sidelines with an early guilty plea for a grade-two crusher tackle on Gold Coast captain Tino Fa'asuamaleaui late in the Bulldogs' 38-18 win at Magic Round
The Bulldogs are already missing suspended forwards Sitili Tupouniua and Josh Curran for their away clash with Canberra on Saturday
The Storm lost 20-18 to the Raiders in golden point in a controversial Sunday night finish to Magic Round
they led 18-12 and fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen kicked a field goal in the 75th minute that would have taken them to 19-12
the Bunker found an elbow to the head of Raiders captain Joseph Topine by Storm lock Loiero in a previous play when Melbourne had the ball
The Raiders then levelled through a scintillating try to fullback Kaeo Weekes
but the Storm were in position for a field goal in golden point when prop Utoikamanu was pinged and sin-binned for stomping on hooker Tom Starling in the play-the-ball
Melbourne prop Stefano Utoikamanu (right) has escaped charge from the fiery loss to Canberra
(HANDOUT/NRL PHOTOS)"The game was in the balance and ..
"I was trying to play the ball and move Tom Starling out of the way
especially when you have been warned from the refs about that sort of stuff."
Raiders skipper Jamal Fogarty then landed the winning penalty after Loiero was ruled to have taken Hudson Young high
While coach Craig Bellamy was scathing post-match of his side's lack of discipline
he also suggested the officiating did his side no favours when asked if the Storm were "hard done by"."You can say that if you like," Bellamy replied
That sentiment could well be enhanced on Monday after both Loiero and Utoikamanu were cleared by the match review committee to play in the home game against Wests Tigers on Sunday
Papenhuyzen spoke to ABC Radio Sport after the match
and his assessment of the Utoikamanu incident proved prophetic

How Jacob Preston went from a delivery driver to one of the NRL's premier second rowers in the competition
and that dream has well and truly come to life
Preston has rapidly made a name for himself in the NRL
preparing to run out in front of more than 60,000 fans at Accor Stadium for Canterbury’s annual Good Friday blockbuster against the Rabbitohs
Back when he was juggling work as a delivery driver with his Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice studies at UNSW
Preston was also rising through the Bulldogs’ junior ranks in the Jersey Flegg competition
“I was playing Jersey Flegg in 2021 and 2022
going to university while also delivering parcels full time,” Preston told NRL.com
“It was good but I just wanted to be playing NRL
I look back on the time with great memories
I met a lot of good people and got to work as a subcontractor under my dad and loved that.”
Balancing university life and footy wasn’t easy
I've just been part-time and slowly chipping away,” he said
Preston has played a pivotal role in the Bulldogs' strong start
stepping up in the absence of Viliame Kikau due to injury
Preston has shown his versatility by shifting to both sides of the field when required
With Kikau and five-eighth Matt Burton set to return for Friday’s clash
Preston has firmly established himself as a reliable and consistent performer — and one many are tipping for higher honours
His form in recent weeks has even sparked conversation around a possible State of Origin debut
“He's an incredible young player and an incredible young man,” Bulldogs teammate Kurt Mann told NRL.com
“He's a very good kid who's got a big future ahead of him
I can definitely see him in an Origin jersey
he's a good kid with a big career ahead of him.”
“There’s a few different [post-university] options,” he said
“I could further my studies with a masters in law or I could go into police law enforcement in forensics so we'll see what happens but hopefully it's a long time off yet.”
his focus remains firmly on continuing the Bulldogs' unbeaten run and making the most of every opportunity that comes his way — both on and off the field

Paul Heckingbottom joined Preston in August
Manager Paul Heckingbottom will not be on the touchline for Preston North End's decisive final Championship game of the season away to Bristol City
Heckingbottom has been handed a two-match touchline ban, a £6,000 fine and a warning about his future conduct following his behaviour during his side's loss at Hull City on Easter Monday
The former Sheffield United boss admitted to acting in an improper manner and using abusive language towards a match official in the 55th minute and after the match
The incident concerned the awarding of the first of two penalties for Hull in a match which Preston lost after leading 1-0
Going into the game at Bristol City on Saturday, North End are 20th in the Championship
but just one point above the relegation zone
The Lancashire club have lost their last four games and could go down if they lose at Ashton Gate and Hull and Luton Town avoid defeat against Portsmouth and West Brom respectively

The Liverpool community is a step closer to having a new purpose-built ambulance station at Prestons following the purchase of a site on Enterprise Circuit
The new Prestons Ambulance Station is being delivered as part of the NSW Government’s $615.5 million NSW Ambulance Infrastructure Program
Health Infrastructure and NSW Ambulance carried out a thorough evaluation of the site to ensure the location best meets the needs of our emergency ambulance operations and paramedic staff
New ambulance stations are located at places which optimise ambulance response performance and meet the needs of local community
NSW Ambulance identified Prestons as a high priority location following a comprehensive service planning process using best practice modelling software to map Triple Zero (000) calls
The next steps for the project include design development and seeking planning approval for the new ambulance station
Construction and operational timeframes will be determined as the project progresses
The NSW Ambulance Infrastructure Program will deliver 30 additional ambulance stations and supporting infrastructure across Sydney
Newcastle and Wollongong over the coming years
boosting frontline emergency ambulance care
Health Infrastructure is working with NSW Ambulance and other Government stakeholders to identify potential sites for new ambulance stations
New stations across south-western Sydney are also planned to service the communities of Raby
There are plenty of things that get us excited about a new venue – whether it’s a particularly tasty sounding dish
handy location or great collaborator… But when a venue combines all of the above
that’s cause for more than a little bit of enthusiasm
Taking over the Bulwer Street space previously home to non-alc bottleshop Tomorrow on Tap (gone but not forgotten), Preston’s Deli caught our eye back in June when we spied some vividly chartreuse posters going up on one of our strolls through Highgate
But when we spotted the work of Sydney-based signage designers Domus Vim on our endless Instagram scrolls
“That’s a little bit of Sydney that’s come to WA!” Preston’s Founder and Director James Dunster tells us when we stop by on a rainy spring afternoon
The hospitality veteran has officially returned west after a stint in Sydney working for hospo heavyweights including Neil Perry and Maurice Terzini
his Perth CV included sleek venues Shadow Wine Bar and Casa
Jimmy Marsden is the other key ingredient to the Preston’s recipe
Jimmy boasts a hands-on trade background (which has proven handy during the venues complete renovation)
A shared dream concocted while exploring the furthest reaches of Perth suburbs in search of the perfect café
and getting to know plenty of hospo operators along the way
“It’s been fun to have Jimmy out here doing all the construction,” adds James
“And now he’s getting behind the machine and swapping a hammer and a nail for a group handle and a grinder!”
James and Jimmy have assembled a team of veritable cool cats: a gun team of creatives excelling in their respective fields
who lovingly handmade the custom furniture in their South Fremantle workshop; Gesture Systems
responsible for the brand identity; menu development by Monika Cook and Lily Rossen (of Rossen and Cook) and the all-important beans roasted by DoubleDouble Coffee
The space also features commissioned pieces by local makers Duzi Objects

We know Preston’s is a sandwich shop – but they’ve remained tight-lipped on what sandwiches they’ll actually be slinging
When it came time to come up with the menu
“What do we like to eat?” As it turns out: muffins
breakfast kind rather (and very good – particularly when paired with the spicy tang of their signature “Preston’s sauce”) than small cake variety – although there’ll be plenty of sweets on offer as well
other sandwich offerings included a spectacularly tall fish finger number
with house-made fish fingers topped with a mountain of shredded lettuce and a caper-studded
piquant house tartare – not to mention an enticingly ooey-gooey mushroom melt
A curried egg and cucumber sandwich on pillowy
fluffy white bread manages to adeptly balance the line between old-school and new-wave
“We’ll do lots of little nostalgic sweet treats: finger buns
potentially whole baked cakes – slice of carrot cake with your coffee
But don’t get too attached – menu items will be tweaked
we might do a little aperitivo – come 4 or 6PM
We have friends in the wine industry that can do little ticketed events… There’s so much fun stuff we can do.”
It’s a kind of mish-mash of Euro influence
Australian nostalgia and American diner culture that rather precisely
satisfyingly taps into the zeitgeist – and neatly fits into its Highgate neighbourhood
“My nonna and nonno came to Australia 70 years ago
and they bought one house and that was in Mount Lawley
My mum was born into that house and grew up there – it’s walking distance from here
When I moved back to Perth it took us five months to find the location
purely because it needed to be around here!”
So dine in and enjoy this ambience and the interior
or being so close to Hyde Park – spring’s coming

Bell Station has been officially named among the world’s most beautiful stations
The station opened in 2022 as part of work to remove 4 dangerous and congested level crossings in Preston
It is now one of six stations recognised by the prestigious Prix Versailles
as part of its World’s Most Beautiful Passenger Stations List
The Bell Station design reflects Preston’s rich history with post-war roof tops
and references to the local art and culture scene
Aspects from each can be seen in the station façade with local roofscapes abstracted into a three-dimensional pattern and the pink and purple coloured glazing
It was also built with a modern waiting room
elevated platforms and seating protected from weather
Bell Station is now in the running for one of three titles
the Prix Versailles as well as the Interior and Exterior awards
which will be announced on Monday 2 December 2024
Four level crossings were removed and 2 new stations were built in Preston
creating more local connections and creating new public open space
which includes new cycling and pedestrian connections
In total we are removing 110 level crossings by 2030
The Canberra Raiders are pleased to announce the signing of Jordyn Preston for the 2025 NRLW season
Preston made her NRLW debut for the St George-Illawarra Dragons in 2024
playing two games after being called into the Dragons squad late due to injuries
She was also named the Illawarra Steelers Player of the Year in 2024 and was part of the Steelers’ Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership-winning team last year
Preston’s signing completes the Raiders Top 24 squad for 2025
with the 22-year-old taking the final place in the squad after Claudia Finau was ruled out for the season following an ACL injury
Raiders NRLW coach Darrin Borthwick is excited to have Preston join the squad for the 2025 NRLW season
“Obviously we lost Claudia Finau with an injury earlier on in the junior representative season and I went to work looking for someone who offered similar attributes to what Claudia was going to add to our team,” Borthwick said
“I was watching a lot of the Steelers in their performances last year and them winning the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership and a few of their players stood out and Jordyn was one of them
Part of her story is that she started on the wing
is now playing back row and I’m quite comfortable she could move in the middle and do a good job
She’s a terrific person as well and someone who I think will fit into what we are building here
I think that level of maturity will be good for our squad
She’ll complement us footy-wise but she’ll also do a really good job with how we carry ourselves as a team as far as attitude and all those things that we look for
I think she’s not only got a lot to add on the field
she’s someone that I feel will offer us quite a bit off the field as well.”
Preston is excited to make the move to Canberra in the coming weeks before pre-season kicks off in early May
I can’t wait to get down there and just get into training,” Preston said
I’ve always been at Steelers so I’ve never been at a different club
I’m excited to learn things from a different perspective.”

A draw at home to Preston, who averted relegation on the final day, would be sufficient providing Blackburn came up short. Liam Manning, his assistant Chris Hogg and a throng of players huddled around Harry Cornick, the striker not in the squad, whose phone carried updates from Bramall Lane, where a Blackburn goal would have changed everything.

This Preston home sold $60k above price guide as buyers chased space and charm
A young Brunswick couple has snapped up a charming Preston home for $1.16m at an auction that saw bidding rocket well past expectations
The three-bedroom house at 38 Spring St had a price guide of $1m-$1.1m
but competitive interest on the day pushed the final sale $60,000 above the top of the quoted range
Ray White Preston director Ian Dempsey said the buyers
had been drawn to the home’s natural light
character detail and location near Preston Market

“They’re from Brunswick — so still inner north — but they were excited to step into something with long-term potential,” Mr Dempsey said
While the property’s period charm played a big role in the result
Mr Dempsey said the couple were also looking for flexibility — and the bonus of a detached backyard studio sealed the deal

The classic weatherboard home features timber trims

while a detached home office adds value in today’s work-from-home era
Three spacious bedrooms offered buyers comfort and potential in one of Preston’s best pockets
Competitive bidding saw the Preston home smash reserve as a Brunswick couple claimed victory
Mr Dempsey said the auction result reflected a shift in buyer behaviour

Osmajic, a Montenegro international, was shown a yellow card by the match referee during the game, but the English Football Association (FA) subsequently charged the 25-year-old after reviewing the incident
Former Liverpool forward Luis Suárez was banned for ten games in 2013 for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic in a game at Anfield
but Osmajic has been banned for eight games and fined £15,000 ($20,000) after admitting the charge
An FA statement said: "Preston North End's Milutin Osmajic has been given an eight-match suspension and £15,000 fine for misconduct during their match against Blackburn Rovers in the EFL Championship on Sunday 22 September
"The forward admitted that he committed an act of violent conduct around the 87th minute by biting an opponent
"An independent Regulatory Commission imposed his sanctions following a hearing
Its written reasons will be published in due course."
The player is now set to be punished by his club for the incident
with director Peter Ridsdale saying that the issue has been dealt with internally
"We've already indicated to the player what we're doing," Ridsdale told Talksport
but you can be assured that that's not something that we condone as a football club and we've taken appropriate action."

AZ — One of the suspects in the Preston Lord case was sentenced to 17 years in prison Friday for multiple crimes
William Owen Hines changed his plea in March in four cases
Prosecutors recommended the maximum sentence Hines could have received under his plea agreement
The judge gave Hines five years in prison for an aggravated assault case unrelated to Lord's death
He also sentenced him to 12 years in prison for manslaughter in Lord's death
Hines will also receive credit for time served in prison
Watch William Hines' sentencing in the player below:
Preston was attacked and beaten while leaving a Queen Creek Halloween party in 2023
seven suspects were arrested and charged in the case
Hines was originally charged with murder and kidnapping.
and he’s the first one to do so," said Hines' attorney Rachel Golubovich
and the possibility of treatment for alcoholism
Golubovich played two calls where Hines seemed to express remorse for his actions
but he seemed like an astounding man; a kind soul senselessly taken from this world," said Hines as he apologized in court
Preston Lord's parents said they weren't displeased with the sentencing
ABC15 has extensively covered the other teen violence cases tied to Hines
but a sentencing memorandum filed by the state alleges new details about the teen's criminal history
and actions the night Preston was killed.
Prosecutors write that Hines' criminal history began in the juvenile justice system in November 2022
Hines is currently 19 years old and charged as an adult in all four of his current cases
Hines was accused of shoplifting and an aggravated assault case. The victim in that assault was Dale Jorgensen
He spoke with ABC15 in the months following Preston's death
coming forward to police around the same time
was wearing brass knuckles during the group attack
Freeman also pleaded guilty in this attack
along with several other teen violence cases.
Just 10 days later, in December 2022, prosecutors say Hines was caught on video during another assault at the Gilbert In-N-Out parking lot.
Video 11 shows Hines run up to the victim as he is already pinned against a car and then proceeds to punch the victim from behind approximately nine (9) times," the court document reads
Hines was accused of stealing a safe and jewelry from a home during a teen party
"The safe contained a large amount of cash along with important documents," wrote prosecutors.
Hines was accused of vehicular aggravated assault
the teen was intoxicated while driving in Gilbert and tried to turn left against a red turn arrow
injuring another driver who ended up with a traumatic brain injury
Court documents say testing showed Hines' alcohol concentration to be .107.
Hines was given probation in the other two cases involved
to be served after he is released from prison
Hines was one of seven suspects arrested in March of 2024. All seven were charged with murder in Preston's case. Hines ultimately pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter.
"Although Hines admitted to striking Preston
the defense and the State likely disagree on the full extent of Hines’ role," wrote prosecutors
there is no question that Hines chose to participate in this blitz-style attack that engulfed Preston before he could escape."
he specifically apologized to Preston's family.
"These events have horrified me since the moment I saw the news," said Hines.
Despite Hines describing his sobriety to the court during his change of plea hearing
prosecutors still express a concern throughout their filing
Court documents show they specifically claim a danger to the community
Photos allegedly taken in the hours after Preston's attack are included in the court documents
Two appear to show Hines holding a vodka bottle while behind the wheel of a car
and another holding a "semi-automatic pistol."
Prosecutors also quote jailhouse phone calls they say were made by Hines during his time in custody
The state alleges the teen may be making and consuming "jail alcohol."
Hines has not remained sober and is not yet committed to overcoming his addictions," wrote prosecutors.
As for the other suspects in Preston's death
Taylor Sherman and Jacob Meisner have settlement conferences set for the end of May

Growing up in the 1990s in the suburb of Westmeadows
an outdoorsy kid who loved skateboarding and graffiti and hanging out by the creek
with online access slowly emerging in that decade via clunky dialup modems
This year, the artist turns 40, but monuments to nostalgia have long figured in his solo art shows, from his 2015 exhibition Bootleg to the Future, a homage to Robert Zemeckis’s 1980s futuristic sci-fi trilogy Back to the Future, which Preston first encountered on VHS cassette, and on to his 2017 show Callum Preston’s Milk Bar
which recreated the local family-run grocery businesses once abundant in the burbs
Now comes Video Land
in which Preston calls again on childhood memories to construct an entire video store
and VHS machines plugged in for returned cassettes borrowers have neglected to rewind
Preston’s latest nostalgia-fest is rendered in eye-popping colours he admits are a little more vivid than the paler
fluorescent-lit libraries that existed before streaming killed the video store
Video Land is part of the Immigration Museum’s biggest exhibition
in which seven Victorian artists express what joy means to them in room-sized installations
and a lot of people think about nostalgia as a longing for the past,” says Preston
I really want to celebrate these things that were so universal to everyone
but they were also so mundane and every day that we didn’t realise the charm in them until they were gone.”
Audiences have bathed in Preston’s nostalgia: adult visitors to the installation can be overheard explaining a video store to their Netflix-addicted children
remarking on how working in such a setup was mum or dad’s first job
“The kids are mind-blown there was so much rigmarole to go and watch a movie,” Preston laughs
Preston recalls his 10-year-old self as thinking the person behind the video counter was “cool” and a “gatekeeper – they were Google
one of the Melbourne-based Video Busters chain
a place he would call in with his older brother after his parents ordered Friday night fish and chips takeaway
or on a Saturday afternoon for longer periods searching
“I would also ask if I could buy the posters on the walls
so they would put my name on the back of the poster
The artist was determined to keep his installation as a VHS rather than DVD universe
likening the tactility of the big cassettes to a vinyl record
The space is one where the audience is encouraged to touch: some visitors have even rearranged the tapes into alphabetical order
He sourced the tapes from Facebook marketplace
Many visitors to Video Land have told Preston they know the films on display
but not necessarily how or whether they can be accessed in today’s streaming world
“because the algorithm tells me what I’m thinking of watching”
He has witnessed conversations sparked between strangers in the installation
when one visitor asks another whether they too remember a particular film
“I love creating a platform where people get transported instantly,” he says
but does he feel melancholy about the passing of technologies
“I’d be fooling myself if I said I didn’t feel some slight tinge of sadness in those things
it was how much you didn’t know about the world
you’re so carefree … I suppose there is a sadness to [nostalgia]
but it’s like a movie—Stand by Me or The Goonies—childhood friendships and adventure was a part of it

you’ve got the opening of your article!” says Matt Preston
We peer out the window of Kin Izakaya in Malvern
where a huge fox has casually wandered over the pedestrian crossing
The media personality bashes a search into his phone that reveals the Preston family crest – a fox atop a tailed chapeau
But this article isn’t about spooky coincidences; it’s about a journalist
radio host and cookbook author – often but not always in a cravat – and his neighbourhood
Master of None.Sofia LevinPreston has lived in the inner south-eastern suburb of Malvern for more than 20 years
The affluent area is home to prestigious schools and heritage architecture
but change is unfurling on and around the retail strip of Glenferrie Road
Sitting in Preston’s favourite coffee shop that morning, Master of None, the bones of a residential development loom on the other side of Malvern Station, while down the road, Essie Wine Bar has just opened a second Station Street venue, Italian restaurant Lulu Dining.

who gave him an ultimatum to cut out either milk or pizza

Preston swears by the coffee and toasties at this cosy cafe
where recycled plywood and timber exude wabi-sabi warmth

Ask Preston to summarise his occupation and he’ll tell you he “eats cake for a living”
It doesn’t give the ABC Radio Melbourne presenter
eight-times best-selling cookbook author and television host enough credit
but it kind of sums everything up,” he says
“I’m an excitable enthusiast and also endlessly hungry.” We settle on “insatiable
Preston at home in Malvern.Eddie JimAdvertisementPre-MasterChef
Preston travelled the world writing for glossy magazines
He reviewed restaurants from the late ’90s
landing on the Good Food Guide radar in 1996 after a rave write-up on Le Petit Bourgeois in Malvern East (now a Chinese restaurant) resulted in reviewers being unable to nab a table before the print deadline
Preston took over Matthew Evans’ weekly Epicure review column
He contributed until MasterChef Australia first aired in 2009
One of the more recent feathers in Preston’s chapeau is memoir-writing
Big Mouth was released last year and is as much an insight into MasterChef as it is Preston’s life prior
from his eyeliner-sporting band and stint in the British Army
It’s also another signpost of how much the man loves cake. Chapter 49 kicks off with a section called “what your choice of cake says about you”, in which Preston and Natalie Paull from Beatrix Bakes have written a sort of baked-goods astrology
It begs the question – what does Preston’s cake choice say about him? He lauds Mietta by Rosemary, which is closed when we meet, and has been visiting Millstone, a little slice of Paris in Malvern

knowing someone else is on their impeccable wavelength.”
“For me, the great joy whenever you travel is to go to the market and see what’s interesting there, and then go to the supermarket and see the snack aisle. That will tell you what people really love in a country,” he says.
After a quick stop at M&M Hot Bread for a takeaway banh mi on the recommendation of fellow former MasterChef judge and chef Gary Mehigan, Preston suddenly halts. “Look!” he says, reaching into a Readings bookshop sale stand. Wedged between a thriller novel and former prime minister John Howard’s musings on balance is his first cookbook, Matt Preston’s 100 Best Recipes. “That’s a bargain!” he announces.
It’s a few minutes before close when we arrive at Little Sister Bakery. The shelves are bare, but I tell Preston to return for the seeded Sofia loaf (which, for the record, is unfortunately not named after me). I don’t know it at the time, but Preston will text me the very next morning, singing the praises of the caramelised onion sourdough, seeded Sofia loaf and shakshuka pocket, which he’ll time for exactly 10.20am so it’s hot from the oven.
As we exit the bakery, two teenagers run up behind us, asking if Preston is “that guy from MasterChef” and can they please take a selfie. I offer to take the picture, but Preston blows my cover as a new judge and pulls me in.
“Let me guess,” he says to the duo, “Yo-Chi, Grill’d and Messina.” They nod enthusiastically at the mention of their regulars. A discussion follows about the latter’s pay-by-weight model (“watch out for the pearls,” advises Preston) and they suggest a frozen yoghurt challenge for the next season of MasterChef Australia.
At Otter’s Promise beer bar, I ask Preston if he ever tires of being recognised. He pours a Belgian lambic beer that he reports tastes like sour milk and burnt rubber tyres – in a good way.
These days, Preston covers topics beyond food on ABC Radio Melbourne on Saturday from 8am to noon. He only added a food slot 18 months ago, not wanting to be “too predictable”.
“I did nothing but talk about food for 14 years,” he says. “That’s why I love radio, because I get to talk about music, or gardening, or poison spitfire caterpillars.”
Preston on grill duties at Wang Wang BBQ.Sofia LevinWe stroll back down Glenferrie Road to Wang Wang BBQ. A north-eastern Chinese restaurant that specialises in Qiqihar (pronounced “Chi-chi-har”) barbecue.
The young waiter obligingly strides from our table to the kitchen under a barrage of questions from two “insatiable excitable enthusiasts”. No one seems to know what makes it specifically Qiqihar, until our investigative Googling reveals that Qiqihar refers simply to grass-fed cattle.
Wang Wang BBQ’s comforting gada soup (tomato, egg and a chicken-stock soup with dough).Bonnie SavageAdvertisementGlowing-hot coals are brought to the table, followed by the dishes. The Qiqihar marinated meat is decent, though thin fat-laced sheets of karubi rib are better, and a gada-dough drop soup better again. The latter affords the salty nostalgia of Maggi seasoning, stippled with spatzle’s gnarlier cousin.
“That’s one of the challenges of tasting stuff for a living; this whole idea that you are always searching for a better flavour,” says Preston.
13.5/20ReviewIf you like Korean barbecue, head to Wang Wang for something a bit differentWe pose for a photo with the staff after our barbecue session and head towards Harvie, a narrow, art deco bar that is technically in Armadale.
Preston makes a beeline for the rooftop. The “mind your head” decal on the spiral staircase is made for his frame – “190 centimetres in bare feet,” he assures me.
The CBD twinkles in the distance, and we’re adequately warmed by heaters, blankets and in Preston’s case, a hot buttered rum and tasting paddle of agave-based spirits from Echuca (mezcal is his favourite drink).
On the way to our final destination, Preston gives me a tour of his local Italian restaurant, Made in Casa. We’re greeted by a woman with a thick Italian accent who tells us the owners are in Italy.
Dough is slapped onto paddles and plunged into the wood-fired oven. Tables are set with china and floral wallpaper surrounds the fireplace. Preston refers lovingly to the interior as “nana’s parlour”. He also swears by the mortadella pizza with buffalo stracciatella and pistachio.
We’ve come full circle to Kin Izakaya on Station Street, near to and owned by Master of None. We snack on chicken nanban, deep-fried and served with a gribiche-like mayonnaise; slippers of torched salmon and the unexpectedly delightful snack of iburi gakko (smoked pickled radish) with cream cheese on crackers. Kin opened in April, but owner Tennyson Andrew says it takes a few years to become a neighbourhood fixture.
“The whole idea of the local restaurant is such a powerful thing,” says Preston. “The owner on the floor doing a really good thing for the locals, supported by the locals … I think that’s what makes Melbourne’s food and wine scene so strong.”
Former Wallabies star James O'Connor and young scrumhalf Kyle Preston have made impressive debuts off the bench to help the Crusaders to a 33-25 season-opening Super Rugby Pacific win over the Hurricanes in Christchurch
Injected into the action in the 57th minute
O'Connor had several nice touches but none better than a lovely short ball to put Will Jordan on the attack at the Crusaders trailed in the final quarter
All Blacks winger Sevu Reece crossed a couple of phases later to put the Crusaders in front for the first time before O'Connor slotted the conversion to make it 29-25
O'Connor turned down a small-money offer to stay at the Queensland Reds before being handed a lifeline by the Crusaders
who are the 34-year-old's fourth Super Rugby club after debuting at the Western Force back in 2008 before also having two seasons at the Melbourne Rebels

An elected Dutton Liberal Government will commit $360,000 to deliver traffic improvements at Ash Road
Prestons to address safety and congestion concerns in Werriwa
Sam Kayal said the intersection at Dalmeny Drive and Ash Road has long been a source of frustration for Prestons residents with unbearable traffic congestion during peak hours
Safety concerns have only increased with the areas’ growing population,” Mr Kayal said
“The poorly designed traffic islands results in cars backing up waiting at the Camden Valley Way lights and being restricted from entering the petrol station.”
“The road lacks the ability to enable a proper flow of traffic on and off the busy Camden Valley Way and in and out of the petrol station
Residents in particular have been left to navigate this bottleneck on a daily basis
enduring delays of up to 10 minutes in some instances.”
“It is time the issues with this roundabout were fixed and for the traffic island to be removed which will significantly ease congestion on local roads and enable a smoother flow of traffic in and around the area.”
The Albanese Labor Government has cancelled
cut and delayed more than $30 billion worth of infrastructure projects over the past three years
and damaged the economy through wasteful spending on the wrong priorities
the Liberals have been working with the people on the ground over the past three years and has a well-planned approach for getting road infrastructure projects back up and running across the country
This commitment is part of the Liberals plan to strengthen our local communities and to get Australia back on track.

This is despite having looked very safe a month ago
but North End’s 1 win in 14 games has been well documented and their slump at this time of the season is all too familiar
Despite the players and staff saying they won’t switch off at this time of the season
Coupled with all the other teams at the lower end of the table picking up points
there is a very strong chance Preston will return to the third tier for the first time in 10 years
The permutations have been looked at time and time again
Ultimately it’s still in Preston’s hands but a win or even a draw seems a very unlikely scenario
Their best chance is hoping results elsewhere go in their favour but that has been written about plenty of times already
I want to focus on the real reason the players need to step up
The players are arguably the least effected when it comes to relegation at a club
Many have contracts for next season and others will be seeking moves elsewhere regardless
The fans suffer and have been doing for sometime due to the dour football on display
But there should also be a consideration for the others employed by Preston North End
If the players can’t perform for themselves here’s who they should do it for; the matchday staff
employees in the community and education trust department of the club
If and when relegation happens cuts obviously have to be made and quite often it’s the people behind the scenes that suffer
You only have to look at Manchester United one of the biggest clubs in the world with astronomical revenue
Limited success and horrendous business decisions have led to them making sweeping redundancies
Preston North End will find themselves in a very tough position if they move down to League One and there will be cuts on and off the pitch
The employees behind the scenes and especially those at the training ground are ones that the players will see every day and I’m sure they appreciate the jobs they do
Think of them when you step out onto the pitch at Ashton Gate
You’re fighting for so much more than just your own career
You’re part of a club and a family with tremendous history
Now’s the time to have a big say on which direction that heads in next
the majority of the North End faithful will and have supported the club no matter what
But last week a young child sat behind me said to his Dad ‘I don’t want to come back next season’
Football is readily available to watch and enjoy in so many formats now
why would the youth of today choose to put themselves through the agony of following a stagnant club like Preston North End
For most of us it’s in our blood and you wouldn’t change it for the world
but it still has to be something enticing for the next generation to want to come and see
The days under Graham Westley were some of the darkest I’ve seen in my time as a fan of this club
We’re a step away from potentially having to witness similar scenes once again
I just hope Paul Heckingbottom and his team have put everything into training this week
rather than going through the usual motions
2009 was the last time Preston reached the play-offs in the Championship
a memorable run of form late in the season culminated with a last minute Sean St
Ledger winner at home to Queens Park Rangers
It meant North End sneaked into sixth place and would face Sheffield United in the semi-final
They would come up short against The Blades and missed out on a chance to play Burnley for a place in the Premier League
Having spent the last 13 seasons in the same league as each other
Burnley would leave Preston behind earning promotion to the top flight
Since then they have been promoted a further four times to the Premier League including this season
For a club that is a similar size to Preston it shows a huge contrast on how fortunes can differ
and that is extremely frustrating for Preston fans
Although The Clarets have become a yo-yo club of late
they are still creating great memories whilst Preston have had very little to shout about for some time
and haven’t had a decent shot at reaching the top flight since 2009
They now face one of the club’s biggest games since those play-offs in 2009 but have to step up and perform now
Too many times we have seen Preston get stage fright when playing a big cup tie
They simply have to get it right this time
‘What if’ is a thought that keeps the fans coming back every week
and we were allowed to dream a little this season with the FA Cup run
Every North End fan wants to see us at the highest level
Preston Ordone’s mom Katelynn Ordone shared a heartbreaking statement following the death of the 2-year-old
who’d become affectionately known on social media as the “Okay Baby.”
Katelynn Ordone is navigating the unimaginable
“I wanted to try to come on here and give y'all an update, because I have been hearing about all the love and the support that y'all have been giving,” she said in the April 30 video shared to Instagram
“and it means so much to us in a time like this.”
Katelynn went on to share that while she had been discharged from the hospital one day earlier
her husband Jaelan Ordone remained checked in
were staying in a nearby Airbnb to be able to visit with him
“I think we all are trying—none of us really understand why or how this could happen,” she continued
“But y'all support has made a big difference in a lot of this.”
I may not be able to reply to every comment
because it's really hard for me to look at it
I'm still seeing some things and hearing how much y'all love him
Katelynn admitted it was difficult to put her thoughts together for the video
“I really wanted everyone to know I truly appreciate the support during this incredibly difficult time.”
“Katelynn has multiple broken bones,” Melanie Matranga said
Jaelan had to have emergency surgery on one of his legs
Preston was removed from the vehicle and brought to the hospital
Melanie and her husband Carson Matranga also took a moment to reflect on the impact Preston had made on the world in his two years
captivating audiences on social media with his reflexive “OK” to his parents before disregarding whatever it was they’d asked him
In one such video
Katelynn asked Preston to be careful jumping into puddles—which he acknowledged with his signature “OK”—before including a montage that showed the toddler leaping and tripping haphazardly into the muddy ground
I know you guys look forward to seeing him every day,” Carson said
he probably has found it and is jumping and dancing in it
For a look back at some of Preston’s sweetest moments with his family
Katelynn Ordone and Jaelan Ordone Welcome Baby Preston
who are parents to daughter Paisley Ordone
"We are so excited to take him home," Katelynn wrote on Facebook at the time
"Thank you everyone for y'all's prayers."
The Ordone family celebrated Easter 2025 with a lot of sweets, a day at church and some time in the pool. Katelyn simply captioned the post
has loved having a little brother by her side
While reflecting on Preston's adventurous nature
Katelynn revealed that it was seemingly passed on from his big sister
"My daughter was just as feral at his age," the mom of 2 quipped on Instagram March 8
"That's why they're 5 years apart but she became a little less feral with age."
Preston Makes a Splash as "Okay Baby"
In an August 2024 TikTok video
"OK," the toddler immediately jumped into the pool
"It's the 'OK' for me every time and he STILL jumps," one user commented
Katelynn agreed that Preston hasn't quite grasped the phrase
"We're still trying to figure out what okay means to him."
Preston loved the pool, but he loved mud even more. For hours, he'd splash in muddy puddles outside their home
As Katelynn and Jaelan's loved one Carson Matranga explained in their April 27 announcement of his unexpected death
he probably has found it and is jumping and dancing in it."
Katelynn would sometimes share "Preston Interviews" on social media
quizzing him on his food and asking questions about himself
I wanna punch the Grinch 'cause he's scary."
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are thrilled to announce a monumental step forward in our Club's history with the signing of Tayla Preston as our inaugural NRLW player for the 2025 and 2026 seasons
returns to familiar territory in the Blue and White
having previously excelled with the Bulldogs Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership squad in 2023
Her outstanding performances during the season earned her the Coaches Award honours and helped lead the squad to a Grand Final appearance in their first year of re-entry to the competition
Hailing from the local area and bred in a family of passionate Canterbury supporters
Tayla’s rugby league journey blossomed after a move to Cronulla in 2016
where she honed her talents playing alongside the likes of Allana Ferguson and Ruan Sims
She was part of the first-ever women’s under-18 side for the Shire and then their inaugural Tarsha Gale Cup squad where it took just 29 seconds for the then-young half to secure her first piece of history in claiming the competition’s first-ever try
Her NRLW career commenced with the Parramatta Eels in 2022 where she played a pivotal role in the team's journey to the NRLW Grand Final
before going on to contribute significantly to the Sharks over the 2023 season as their starting halfback
and a winning mentality to the Bulldogs as we prepare for our inaugural NRLW campaign in 2025,” said Bulldogs NRLW Head Coach Blake Cavallaro
The announcement of the Club’s first-ever NRLW player follows the Bulldogs' successful bid to the competition expansion in 2025 as confirmed earlier this year by the NRL and ARLC
“The Bulldogs have made significant strides in nurturing female talent through our Academy programs
laying the foundation for our entry into the NRLW competition,” added General Manager of Pathways Adam Hartigan
Tayla’s influence in bringing her NRLW and experience as a key playmaker in the game will be instrumental in helping shape the future success of our Club
We look forward to cheering on her successes over the upcoming season and we can’t wait to welcome her back to Belmore in due time
Out of respect to Preston and her current seasonal commitments with the Cronulla Sharks
the Bulldogs will not be making any further comment at this time and before Preston joins the Club for the 2025 NRLW pre-season
Preston’s signing marks a historic moment for the Bulldogs and the NRLW
heralding the dawn of a new legacy as we eagerly anticipate her contributions to our proud Club

Beck, on loan at Blackburn from Liverpool
complained to referee Mathew Donohue that he had been bitten by Osmajic following an incident during the second half of the 0-0 draw
Beck had been sent off for kicking out at a separate Preston player before the alleged incident
Osmajic was shown a yellow card by the referee
but Blackburn manager John Eustace said after the game that Beck has a bite mark from the incident
"Owen's got a big bite mark on the back of his neck and it's a shame the referee didn't see that," Eustace told BBC Radio Lancashire

two playable sculptures by artist Sanné Mestrom
is the newest addition to the Preston Station precinct
The two-part sculpture depicts semi-abstract figures reclining on the ground and reaching up and out
These climbable structures encourage the community to interact with
play on and make memories at Preston Station
The sculptures will be positioned at either end of the station as both a meeting point for passengers and a space of play
The sculptures are 3m high at the tallest point and are made of bronze and curved concrete which is polished to a smooth finish
Artist Sanné Mestrom was born in the Netherlands and before coming to Australia and studying Fine Arts at RMIT
Her work focuses on creating child-friendly cities that incorporate spaces of play into urban design
“I passionately believe that the concept of play is a fundamental aspect of artistic practice and the creative process,” Mestrom says about her artwork
I’ve observed that the realms of designing for play in urban spaces and incorporating play within contemporary art are not always easily reconciled
I'm deeply passionate about this fertile intersection and view playable sculpture as a starting point for exploring innovative ways to reimagine the liveability of urban spaces."
