With the WA state election just four weeks away
election promises are rolling in thick and fast from both major parties in the Riverton electorate
as the 9 per cent marginal seat proves to be a key battleground
has unveiled a series of promises primarily focused on local infrastructure
aiming to appeal to voters ahead of the upcoming election
Among WA Labor’s biggest commitments in the area is a $20 million pledge for the redevelopment of the Willetton Sports and Community Centre
and upgrades to the netball and bowling clubs
last week Dr Jags announced an $850,000 pledge to upgrade the Vic and Audrey Varischetti Pavilion (Riverton Pavilion)
which would benefit the Riverton Junior Football Club
and the Riverton Rossmoyne Junior Cricket Club
The proposed developments include modern female changerooms to support growing female participation in sports and an expansion of existing clubroom facilities
“Female participation in sport has grown significantly in recent years
and it’s vital that our facilities reflect that,” he said
“This upgrade is about investing in our local community
It’s about creating spaces that reflect the values of inclusion
and community spirit that our local sporting clubs show every day.”
represented by City of Canning Deputy Mayor Amanda Spencer-Teo
is aiming to dislodge Dr Jags from the seat once held by former WA Liberal leader Mike Nahan for 13 years
and are also investing heavily to secure local support
Spencer-Teo has committed $1.2 million to upgrade Riverton Pavilion
with the proposed works also including new female-friendly changerooms
and new playground/exercise equipment at Riverton Reserve
This recent commitment follows last year’s pledge by the WA Liberals to partially fund a new indoor sports facility in Riverton
with $10 million allocated to provide the Rossmoyne Volleyball Club a dedicated space for training and competition
who has served on the Canning Council for five years
believes financial pressures are the biggest concern for residents in the Riverton electorate
“There’s not a day that goes by where parents aren’t discussing the waiting times in our public health system
increase in criminal behaviour and cost of living pressures,” she said
“The cost of living is really hurting local families
and this Government’s only response is free pre-election public transport fares and the token sugar hits like free zoo passes.”
Spencer-Teo has also announced additional commitments
to fund minor modifications and implement the recommendations from Main Roads WA at the Vahland Avenue and High Road intersection
Other WA Liberal promises in the area include $43,000 for the installation of a disability access ramp at the Willetton Community Garden
$110,000 in funding for exercise equipment on the Shelley Beach Foreshore
and $77,000 for equipment and facility upgrades for the Riverton Aquanauts at the Riverton Leisureplex
Dr Jags and WA Labor have also been pumping out funding commitments in several smaller initiatives
promising financial support for minor upgrades and support to local clubs
These include $105,000 for the Rossmoyne Junior Football Club and Rossmoyne Amateur Football Club’s Shelley Reserve clubrooms
$20,000 for the Riverton Calisthenics Club
and $50,000 for the Rossmoyne Bowling Club
$42,000 has been promised to the Riverton Aquanauts and $50,000 to the Canning City Football Club
WA Labor has also made a $60,000 commitment for the Willetton Baseball Club’s facilities
$21,000 for the Herald Avenue Seniors Centre Computer Club
$50,000 for the Lynwood United Football Club
$40,000 for the Willetton Basketball Club and $46,000 for passive lighting along the footpaths at Arlington Park in Willetton
Smaller contributions include $7,000 for the Canning Sea Scouts for new equipment and a boat ramp
Enrolment and changes to voter details for the 2025 WA state election must be completed by 6 pm on February 13

Where brunch was once the domain of eggs on toast and not much else
we’re happy to be able to cast our nets a little wider for our first meal of the day…
brunch is when we’re looking for big flavours to wake us up – not to mention expand our culinary vocabulary beyond the same old familiar flavours
Riverton café Espressoul brings the best of both worlds
blending Australian brunch classics with Taiwanese specialties
Signatures include the Espressoul toasted sandwiches – and we’re particularly enticed by the combination of omelette and the intense umami of pork floss
although the promise of fried chicken and omelette first thing in the morning is also pretty tempting
we can’t go past the lo bah png: a steaming bowl of rice topped with braised pork belly
pickled cucumber and more of that pork floss
the warm soba noodle salad is packed with brussels sprouts
edamame and more before being drizzled with both a seaweed and sesame dressing… It’s so green we can practically feel the halo glowing above us
if you’re still a hollandaise fiend (guilty)
you can still get your hands on Espressoul’s take on an eggs benny
with a zesty hint of yuzu – or why not take a turn towards the Mediterranean with house-made mushroom arancini
Specialty coffee is thanks to local Perth roaster Offshoot’s signature Workhorse blend
with rotating single origin beans for black and filter – but in the spirit of Espressoul’s Taiwanese influence

As the countdown towards the 2025 WA state election begins
with the WA Liberal Party pledging $10 million toward a new indoor sports facility in Riverton if elected
would be provided with a dedicated indoor space for training and competition
the two clubs have been relying on outdoor courts and borrowed gym spaces
often competing with other sports organisations for access to limited indoor venues
said she believes Riverton has struggled for too long with the lack of local sports facilities
I know the distances we’ve had to travel to get our kids to sport
just like so many local families,” she said
“That’s why I’ve been working hard to give these sports a home in Riverton
This $10 million facility will finally give volleyball and netball clubs in our area a place to call their own.”
WA Liberal Leader Libby Mettam believes the new facility would be a welcome investment for the Riverton community
“This project is about giving local kids a place to play and removing barriers for families
they’ll have access to top-quality courts right here in Riverton,” she said
the governing body for the sport in the state
stressed the urgent need for more indoor courts
will provide local netball and volleyball clubs with the space they need to grow and will give families better access to sports facilities close to home,” she said
Narelle Morgan from the Rossmoyne Netball Club also welcomed the recent announcement and hopes to see it come to fruition
“We’ve been managing with outdoor courts and minimal facilities for years
Amanda and the Liberal Party really listened to us and worked with the City of Canning to find a solution
This new facility will give our 350 netball players and their families a proper place to train and play,” she said
will face off against WA Labor’s Dr Jags Krishnan in the upcoming state election
In response to the WA Liberal announcement
Dr Jags said he will have more to say over the next four months regarding WA Labor’s plan for our local sporting community but is pleased with what his party has delivered so far
“I’m proud to have delivered genuine support for our local sporting groups over the past three years
including major upgrades at the Corinthian Park Tennis Club
and the Willetton Basketball Association,” Dr Jags said
“The Liberal Party’s thought bubble hasn’t been properly costed or consulted
Only the Cook Labor Government has the runs on the board to support local sports.”
Dr Jags won the Riverton seat in the last election with a 16.2 per cent swing in his favour on first-preference votes
The seat was previously considered a safe Liberal stronghold
with Mike Nahan holding it from 2008 to 2021
the 2025 WA state election is set to be held on Saturday

The Emmy-award winning Indigenous filmmaker behind "Prey," the 2022 installment in the "Predator" movie series
will speak in Jackson and Riverton this week
Jhane Myers’ talks are part of a multi-day program called Native Voices
which is hosted by Central Wyoming College in partnership with Wyoming Humanities and Native American Jump Start
and she was the lead creative producer for the 2022 movie “Prey,” a prequel in the popular sci-fi “Predator” franchise
“Prey” is set in the northern Great Plains in the early 18th century and features a Comanche heroine named Naru
who is a citizen of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribe based in Montana
Myers said that although the franchise has been historically very male-driven
having Naru at the center of “Prey” helped to shift the demographic of people drawn to the franchise
“Prey” is also the first full-length film to be dubbed in Comanche
Myers said there are still barriers for Indigenous people trying to get into creative fields
but she said more and more are making their mark
“ So many people don't think of Native people as modern day
Myers recently worked on Ralph Lauren’s inaugural Artist in Residence program collaboration with Diné weaver and textile artist Naiomi Glasses
Myers said that she encourages aspiring Native creatives to use their imagination and dream big about where they would like to see more Indigenous representation
“ We have a big opportunity for new filmmakers to come in and make authentic pieces and make authentic contributions to the film industry,” she said
Eastern Shoshone tribal member Ivan Posey is the tribal education coordinator at Central Wyoming College and has been integral to organizing Native Voices’ programming since it started in 2019
He said that the Jackson area is still the ancestral lands of the Shoshone people
objects and all these things that were sacred to us and important to us are still there,” he said
“It’s good that this week celebrates some of the things that tribal people contribute to.”
Native Voices stemmed from conversations between tribal members, the mayor of Jackson and the local Chamber of Commerce about cultural appropriation at an Old West Days Parade in 2018. At the parade
non-Native people donned red face paint and black wigs
Posey said that education is at the heart of Native Voices
especially given the fact that there are still so many misconceptions and myths about contemporary Indigenous peoples
“ It’s important to tell our own stories,” he said
“When I first got to Jackson and we talked about tribal education
I was asked what kind of books people should read about us
So I think we're at the point now where we have the opportunity to tell our own stories.”
Posey helps run the Institute of Tribal Learning at Central Wyoming College and said that there’s a need for more education and storytelling within tribal communities as well
start teaching our younger people about ourselves,” said Posey
“A lot of them may not be exposed to some of our stories and stuff
Central Wyoming College President Brad Tyndall said the Wind River Reservation is the heart of the school’s service area and emphasized that the event is an opportunity to celebrate the many strengths and differences of the communities there
“ People have to get together and understand each other,” he said
“This whole week of Native Voices is very much centered around mature understanding and respect.”
The fifth annual Teton Powwow will wrap up the week on May 3 at the Snow King Sports and Events Center in Jackson
The event brings together hundreds of dancers

using a series of highlight-reel plays to offset a few unforced errors and claim a 1–0 lead
The Silverwolves pieced together three dominant scoring runs that totaled a 16-2 stretch
allowing them to take control of the opening set
A pivotal moment came around the 10-point mark when Herriman middle blocker Malcom Swiss came down on an opponent’s foot and rolled his ankle
The injury visibly shook the Mustangs and disrupted their rhythm
and we had a little bit of trouble to start,” said Herriman coach Austin Linford
we don’t sprint out very often — we tend to find our rhythm as we go along
Linford continued when asked about the conversation before the second set: “The group was asking how Malcom is
and our hitters were able to start hitting really well
Hayden Francis came in when Malcom went down
He hasn’t played a lot of varsity and had a really good match
Herriman bounced back with a commanding response
racking up several key kills — including a well-placed cross-court spike that energized the team
he sparked a 3-0 run to extend the Mustangs’ lead as they pulled away for a 25-18 win
Herriman opened the third frame with a quick burst
Although Riverton fought back to tie it at 18
the Mustangs regained control down the stretch to claim the stanza and go up 2-1 in the match
Matias Hanks is a great setter and puts me in great positions,” Rylan Pettit said of his huge second set
but I’ve been working to fix my screen and get my hand high
Riverton adjusted from a 6-2 to a 5-1 rotation — opting to run their offense through a single setter to create more fluid attacks and sharper angles
The change initially caused problems for Herriman
as the Silverwolves jumped out to a 8–4 lead
turning the frame into a back-and-forth battle
Herriman dug deep and closed on a 5–2 run to seal the match and complete the comeback after the Swiss injury
When asked about the impact of some of his teammates
he brings all the heat and pressure onto the court
It was a hard adjustment to bring the energy ourselves
We had to intentionally be loud every single point and celebrate everything to supplement his energy
And then Matias and I have been playing together for all of our lives
everything I do on the court is easy because I know he can give it to me wherever I am on the court.”
rebounding after a tough loss to Mountain Ridge on Tuesday. The Mustangs are now 4-1 in Region 2 play
which arguably had five of the top 10 teams in the state
They’ll next take on Salem Hills and West Jordan at a neutral site tournament on Saturday before playing through the second half of region play
Riverton Classical Academy community founding group members pose in this undated photo
HEYBURN — A proposed classical education charter school in the Mini-Cassia area has secured a land donation and plans to open in the fall of 2027
The founding group for Riverton Classical Academy
announced a 17.3-acre land donation near the Wayside Cafe just northeast of Heyburn
“It’s a huge step,” Seely told the Times-News on Friday
who made the announcement Thursday at the Burley Public Library
He will be the school leader and principal of Riverton Classical Academy
The charter school has 450 prospective students
The school now has the three key ingredients: a land donation
That means the school’s partner organization
“ACSI now will look at us for moving out of the candidacy phase into the development phase.”
The land donation comes from the Brice family
The family donated a 17.3-acre chunk of that land for the school building
Seely and the other six members of the founding group have been working on starting the school since 2023
is to get the piece of land annexed into Heyburn
There are four tenets of classical education
ACSI CEO Steve Lambert told the Times-News in January
concerned with moral formation and thoughtfully patriotic
The mission is to train the minds and improve the hearts of students
emphasizing virtuous living and civic responsibility
Classical education is traditional and “probably everything but innovative.”
who wrote in Federalist 55 that citizens of virtue and knowledge are necessary to perpetuate the republic
“We strongly believe that the first and most critical purpose of K-12 public education is to shape future citizens that will safeguard this experiment with liberty,” Lambert said

RIVERTON — A Riverton police sergeant was legally justified in shooting and killing a hit-and-run suspect armed with a knife following a Fourth of July fireworks show in Riverton last year
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill announced Friday
About 11:20 p.m. on that day, Ryan Patrick Ludeman, 44
was driving a 2016 Arctic Cat Wildcat side-by-side vehicle when he was involved in a hit-and-run crash near 1300 West and 12800 South
Ludeman was located and pulled over a short time later by police
He denied having anything to drink and refused field sobriety tests
according to the final report released Friday by Gill
Ludeman again refused to do a sobriety test
Estrada told Ludeman he wanted to do the tests to make sure he was good to drive
Estrada then kneels down to talk to Ludeman
who is sitting on the curb with his hands clasped together in front of him
Estrada detects an odor of alcohol on Ludeman's breath and tells him he smells like alcohol
It's then that Estrada decides to take Ludeman into custody and tells him to stand up
Estrada and a second officer bend down to grab ahold of Ludeman to get him to stand up
As he pulls the left hand away from his body
Estrada sees a knife in Ludeman's right hand and hears the clicking sound of the knife being opened
The second officer who was present during the confrontation said Estrada immediately yelled multiple times
"A brief and dynamic struggle ensued during which Sgt
Ludeman three times," the report states
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill goes over police body camera video released Friday showing a confrontation with 23-year-old Ryan Patrick Ludeman in 2024
The sergeant who shot Ludeman was determined on Friday to be legally justified in using deadly force
KSL.com)"It happened really fast," the second officer continued
"It seemed like (Estrada) was trying to back off and went to gun
and then he just dropped right there," the officer said
"Review of body-worn camera recordings indicate that Sgt
Estrada fired his weapon about five seconds after he began asking Mr
Ludeman to put his hands behind his back," according to the report
An autopsy determined Ludeman was shot in the head and twice in the neck
His blood-alcohol level was measured at 0.143% and amphetamines were also found in his system
Estrada declined to be interviewed for the investigation
But in police body camera video reviewed by the district attorney's office
Estrada tells another officer shortly after the shooting
"He pulled the knife on me when I went to (arrest him)."
Ryan Patrick Ludeman (Photo: Legacy.com)Based on the totality of the situation
Gill said Friday it wasn't unreasonable for Estrada to believe his life and the life of his partner were in danger
"They've got their hands on him when that right hand comes up and the blade clicks open
he could have stabbed Estrada right there because he's like less than a foot-and-a-half
In reviewing the officers' body camera videos
Gill said Ludeman is seen reaching into his back pocket and grabbing his knife as he's walking toward the curb to sit down
something the officers apparently didn't see
But Gill also notes that at no time did Ludeman tell the officers that he had a knife in his hand as they were talking to him
"He does not tell anyone that he has the knife
And then he makes the conscious choice to open the knife," the district attorney said
"It is not unreasonable with the totality of that to infer that at that point
that he's flipped that knife open and he's done it with one purpose and one purpose only — because he plans on using it on the officers
but in the totality of all the sequences that we have
that is the conclusion that we're left with."
Correction: An earlier version incorrectly listed Ludeman as 44 instead of 23

Mountain Ridge made a pretty big statement on Tuesday afternoon
Sydney Lambert struck out 12 and the Sentinels took advantage of control issues in the circle for Riverton as they used a five-run fourth inning to pull away for the comfortable 9-2 Region 2 victory
Mountain Ridge improved to 15-1 on the season with the win
and in the process hadn’t defending state champion Riverton just its second loss of the season
Mountain Ridge coach Andre Ashton knows this is the type of win that shows his players they can beat anyone as they seek a first-ever state championship
he knows the focus needs to be completely on Herriman on Thursday
so I think we can kind of get over that hump
I think this is the best pitching we’ve ever had here at the school
really tough game on Thursday with Herriman,” said Ashton
Mountain Ridge and Riverton are tied in the loss column in the Region 2 standings
and it will likely take a perfect record the rest of the way to claim the region title
Riverton beat Mountain Ridge 10-7 in the first meeting between the teams last month
but Ashton said a key error led to a big for Riverton inning in that game
He believed with a cleaner defensive performance his team could get over the hump
“When you play Riverton or you play a team that good
it’s just staying out in front of yourselves
not digging yourself out of a hole a little bit
I don’t think we had any errors,” said Ashton
but it’s something that we think we’re capable of.”
With the way Lambert was pitching on Tuesday
the Sentinels could’ve overcome a couple errors
The 6A leader in strikeouts added a dozen more to her tally
All those strikeouts helped her overcome nine walks
including two in the first inning which eventually led to a 1-0 deficit as Riverton scored on a wild pitch
Riverton only managed a season-low two hits off Lambert on Tuesday as the junior improved to 10-0 this season
“(Sydney’s) why I love coaching high school sports
and she came back so much better for herself and for her teammates,” said Ashton
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning
Riverton answered back in the bottom of the first with an RBI double by Red Brooks tying the game 1-1
Hanna Lino doubled in a run as well for the 2-1 lead
and then Brooklyn Van Resnelaar’s infield single loaded the bases for the No
driving in three straight runs to push the lead to 5-1
Lambert then helped her own cause with a towering fly ball that hit the base of the fence
“If a pitchers out there just a little bit out of the zone
it’s about being picky and being patient up there,” said Ashton
which he credits the experience of his players for recognizing
“That’s the difference with this team than what we’ve had the last couple years
Mountain Ridge tacked on two more insurance runs in the fifth inning
Tatyana Toala and Lambert all finished with two RBIs in the game
Peyton Sanchez her her team-leading 11th home run of the season in the seventh inning
just the second hit of the game off Lambert
(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Chambrey Necaise talks on Friday
about a police pursuit that ended with a crash and shootout on the front lawn of her parent’s house at 12509 South and Redwood Road on Jan
a Riverton couple awoke to chaos unravelling in their front yard — a crash
“The cops were knocking on the door telling them they need to either go outside or get in a basement,” she said
they heard they announced that the shooter was down.”
Salt Lake City police said that “shooter” was Tanner Cottrell
a 27-year-old arson suspect who they say led law enforcement officers from six different agencies on a pursuit that passed through North Salt Lake and Salt Lake City before crashing a stolen Ford F-350 into the couple’s front yard
Police body camera video from the chaos shows their lawn filled with patrol vehicles and officers who shot toward the truck
who also opened fire on authorities during the pursuit
The surprising mayhem shocked the Wagamans
who say they were left to pick up much of the aftermath
Cottrell had crashed into the family’s two trucks
one of which was a work truck that Necaise’s father had recently bought and put thousands of dollars into
He also slammed into the family’s camp trailer
(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) The aftermath of a police pursuit and shootout that ended with a crash at 12509 South and Redwood Road in Riverton is pictured on Friday
A truck and camper belonging to the property owners were totaled
They initially got some help: A towing company her dad was familiar with from work came and pulled the debris that littered a neighbor’s yard back onto the Wagamans’ property
They got $6,000 for both trucks after filing under their own auto insurance policy
because the crash was caused by an apparent uninsured vehicle
But that doesn’t cover the amount Necaise said her dad spent on his work truck alone
They also received no payment from their home owners’ insurance policy and nothing for their camp trailer
because it wasn’t attached to their vehicle during the crash
Officials towed away the stolen F-350 that caused most of the damage
but as for who would remain responsible for removing the rest
Necaise said police told her parents the couple was — and they’re reeling
said the city’s police department wasn’t involved in the pursuit
Riverton City cannot compensate the victims for the injuries caused by the suspect.”
an attorney familiar with insurance coverage
said the family’s best bet was the auto claim they already received payment through
since the stolen truck Cottrell was driving was considered uninsured
That doesn’t necessarily mean the owner of the truck didn’t have auto insurance
If someone makes a claim against another person’s policy
and that policy doesn’t cover stolen vehicles
then it’s considered an uninsured situation
The same happens if a stolen vehicle wasn’t insured at all
leaving those affected to move on to their own insurance policy
If the family needs to file against law enforcement agencies’ insurance
and the primary cause of this damage was the suspect’s carelessness.”
the officers’ use of deadly force also triggered an “officer involved critical incident” investigation
the communications director for the Salt Lake City Police Department
Necaise said her family was under the impression that they have to wait for it to end before potentially filing any claims against the agencies involved
But personal injury claim attorney Brady Rasmussen advised against that
He said if they don’t file within a year of the debacle
and there’s no requirement for them to wait
That doesn’t mean the process will be quick
then they may have some responsibility liability here,” Rasmussen said
“It’s a very complicated law when you’re dealing with governmental agencies.”
There are several factors that could determine potential liability
The Utah Governmental Immunity Act also comes into play
as does another state law about high-speed chases
if the Wagamans hope to seek compensation from agencies
Rasmussen said it would be a good idea to do so with an attorney
as it requires “strict compliance with all of these requirements to sort of maintain your rights to a claim.”
“The advice would be that they need to have some professional help,” he said
Even if someone can’t yet get public records about the investigation’s findings
Rasmussen said they could look at publicly available facts
as well as policies that agencies instruct their employees to follow to see if they meet standards set by the Utah Department of Public Safety
“There is no immunity for what would be deemed sort of unreasonable actions taken that could harm people or property,” he said
He added that attorneys who look into these situations professionally could also better determine if there are possible areas of negligence
there’s not a way to know how likely the family is to receive any payments
“The devil is always in the details,” he said
“Once you kind of look at everything that kind of happened
you kind of start to notice certain things.”
Meanwhile, Necaise has set up a GoFundMe campaign meant to help her parents. She said they were planning to send the two trucks and the trailer to the scrap yard.
“Just sucks cause they have to pay for them to be towed,” she said in a text.

Defending 6A champion Riverton showed why it’s yet again a state title threat on Wednesday against the 4A defending champion Ridgeline
The Silverwolves got ahead early and held off a late Riverhawks’ push to beat Ridgeline 6-4 in a non-region matchup
It wasn’t the Silverwolves’ prettiest win this year
but Wednesday’s win showed resilience that they will need in order to win consecutive 6A titles
Riverton never trailed and dominated early with a quick three-out defensive sequence. The Silverwolves then did exactly what they needed by getting on base and then letting Grace Leary hit a home run and earned three RBIs
The game was quickly getting out of Ridgeline’s hand as Riverton took a 6-1 lead after three innings
and time and time again they show their greatness,” said Riverton head coach Whitley Haimin
“I think (Ridgeline) took full advantage of the strike zone,” Haimin said
I think they took advantage of the strike zone and then we didn’t do our best at controlling the controllables
We’re a really heavy hitting team and when we have kids striking out looking that’s not normal for us.”
Ridgeline then pulled the score even closer in the sixth inning with Anne Wallace recording a RBI single
The Riverhawks defense also kept executing well and got out of the sixth inning with a double-play to keep the score within 6-4
With Ridgeline up to bat in the seventh inning, Riverton swapped in freshman Kaelyn Flynn at pitcher
Flynn more than delivered for the Silverwolves
striking out two Ridgline batters to secure the tight win
“Kaelyn Flynn, our freshman, she came in and closed that out and to be able to come in that last inning and really close it out is absolutely awesome,” Haimin said. “(Peyton Sanchez) did an awesome job throwing those other six innings
(Ridgeline) has have some really awesome players
their speeds are different so to be able to switch it up at that last thing and close it out
I’m proud they were able to to hold on to it and finish it out
I think we could have done a lot of things
The win pushes Riverton to a 14-1 overall record
and the Silverwolves currently sit at the top of Region 2 with a perfect 4-0 record

On the early morning of March 30, 2025 Conner Adonis Russell was taken away from his loving family in a tragic car accident. His young life still had a lot of growing to do. Conner was born on January 23, 2009 to the most amazing remarkable mom any kid could have, Brooke Holmquist Garner. Brooke raised Conner and his younger brother Madden Russell on her own. She was a true single mom! Conner loved his small family very much, his mom especially.
Conner loved Football, Rugby and making friends, especially the girls. Oh man he thought he was the “goat” when it came to girls and he let us all know. Conner had a unique personality like no other. He was the funniest when he wasn’t even trying to be. He had a smirk that helped him get away with far far too much and a charm like no other.
Conner was born in Murray Utah and spent the first week of his life in the NICU, He made a grand entrance with his birth and that probably let way to the character he was today. Conner preferred his cats over the dogs, except for his mom’s little dog Keeley. She chose him. He was her person, They loved to snuggle.
Conner is survived by his mom Brooke Garner, brother, Madden Russell, sister Marki Wolff, his grandma Lora Holmquist whom he named Gygi, and his dad Marshal Lane Russell. Our lives have forever changed and he will be missed every single minute of the day. We can’t thank his Aunt Mikala Spencer Garner, Amy Spencer, Uncle Travis Martin, Patty Spencer (TuhTuh) and many many best friends, coaches, teachers, mentors and loved ones enough for all their love and support during this heartbreaking time.
Conner is preceded in death by his grandpa (Papa Buddy) who was at the accident to greet him and keep him safe. His great-grandparents Conrad Joseph Pugh And Adrianne L. Pugh.
"This was a tragic accident that should have never happened. I’ve talked to him dozens of times about driving under the influence, being home by curfew and making good choices. Please talk to your babies about the dangers of drinking and driving. Please hug your babies tight." -Brooke
A funeral and celebration of Conner's life will take place at 2pm on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at Larkin Mortuary - Riverton, 3688 West 12600 South in Riverton, Utah. I will forever love Conner,he was such an amazing friend to me and I will forever see him in the sky, in music, in outfits i pick, in everything. I am so sorry this happened.
My heart goes out to this family. I send you love and light and a wish for peace during this most challenging of times.
Conner was in my class for several years when he went to Precious People Daycare. He was always the first to help a friend in need, and looked after the younger kids in class especially. He had a huge impact on the type of teacher I became. I will forever remember his joking nature and big heart and the way he somehow managed to fight with Madden as brothers do, but also look out for him. I am so sorry for your loss. I still think about you all and love you all!
I just wanted to express how deeply sorry I am for your loss your son was not only a great teammate but also an incredible person. I have so many memories of playing football with him his passion, kindness and smile always stood out. He will be missed by so many. My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this tough time.
We both went to oquirrh hills together, never really got to know him and I regret it. Losing somebody is hard but with time the pain will ease.
I pray you will always feel him close by and that you see him in every sunrise and every sunset.. For A mother will ache for her child until her last breath. I’m holding you in my prayers friend.
I met Conner at Riverton Skatepark in around 2022, he was a super nice and funny guy, we didn't really talk much until this year when I got to know him alot better, we would talk alot about peircings and stretching them. I was heartbroken to hear that he passed and I cannot believe I won't be able to talk to him again. So much love to his family and everyone that knew him.
I taught Connor in 7th grade. He made me laugh everyday with his shenanigans and charisma! He was always so sweet. When he was in 9th grade he would occasionally see me in the halls and ask for a hug. It made my day. Kids like Connor are the reason I keep teaching. To his friends and family, especially mom, Connor will always be close. I am praying for you all.
In my many interactions with Conner through my job at Jordan District, he was always respectful and accountable for his actions. He truly exuded charisma. His love for his mom and family was apparent in his discussions with me. I had no doubt he would accomplish all the goals he talked of. Such a bright light extinguished far too soon. I am sending prayers of healing to his sweet mom Brooke, and to his family and friends.
i had classes with Conner during middle school, and he was always so funny. he loved making jokes and always put a smile on people’s faces. i would always make sure to have snacks because he would always ask people for some. we will all miss him so much. fly high conner
the day i found out conner had passed It felt so surreal to think about all the times in middle school and the amazing memories we had. You brought so much joy and laughter into everyone’s life. I miss your sense of humor, and the way you always knew how to lift everyone’s spirits. I wish I could tell you one more time how much you meant to me and how deeply you’re missed. Rest easy, my friend. Until we meet again🕊️
I'm so sorry about Conner. I found a scripture on JW.org that I like to share, Acts 24:15, "there is going to be a resurrection," I wish your family the very best for the future.
Conner was a delight in the classroom (STEP) . He always made me smile. He always knew how to cheer someone up. It was an honor to help Conner catch up on his credits so when he started RHS ready to go. I know that Conner will always be watching over his family.
Me and Connor never hung out but we would always talk about school I’m pretty sure he was gonna play rugby again and w always talked about that, he was a sweet and kind and super funny guy, I miss him so much
Nothing we can say will ease your pain, but we are forever sorry for losing someone so special. Be strong, dear friend, and know you have the support and love of so many around you. We will always be there for you. You and your family are in our prayers.
i didn’t know conner well but we always talked and he was such a sweet soul. it breaks my heart to see him go so soon. i send my deepest condolences to his family and friends.
WATCH: ‘This could be last time we see our home’ - couple evacuate after earthquake
The outdoor wooden table was dancing," one local wrote
Fears of a tsunami rocking New Zealand have arisen after a magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck off the country's South Island earlier today
The powerful tremor hit at 2.42pm local time on Tuesday - shortly before 2am in the UK
Seismic monitors detected the earthquake at a depth of 12km
about 160km northwest of the uninhabited Snares Islands
preliminary info: M 6.8 - 159 km WSW of Riverton
New Zealand," the United States Geological Survey said overnight
according to government seismic monitor Geonet - which reported that almost 5,000 people would have felt the tremor
Local media published reports of furniture falling and buildings swaying near the earthquake zone
The outdoor wooden table was dancing," one local wrote on Facebook
New Zealand authorities immediately began assessing the potential tsunami risk for coastal areas
the country's National Emergency Management Agency (Nema) issued warnings for residents of Southland and Fiordland to stay clear of beaches and marine areas
New Zealand," the United States Geological Survey said
"Strong currents and surges can injure and drown people
and anyone in or near the water close to shore," the agency said in an update at 4pm local time
While no official evacuation order was issued
Nema advised people to self-evacuate from coastal areas where the earthquake was felt for longer than a minute or was strong enough to make standing difficult
And one soon did - though it was too small to cause any damage
Coastal sea-level gauge recorded a 10cm tsunami which lasted for 90 minutes after the earthquake in southwest Fiordland
on the South Island's southwestern tip
The earthquake struck near the tectonic plate boundary where the Australian plate scrapes under the Pacific plate in an area known as the Puysegur Trench - though the Bureau of Meteorology has advised there is currently no tsunami threat to Australia following the earthquake
"This area is actually very poorly understood," Seismologist Dr Finn Illsley-Kemp told the NZ Herald
"There's been far less research done here compared to other regions
leaving many unknowns about the exact tectonics - but it's hosted some of our biggest earthquakes."

RIVERTON — Riverton City celebrated the completion of its Green Well project Friday — a nanofiltration well designed to serve as a sustainable water source for the southwest part of the valley
Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs highlighted the financial benefits of the project
noting it will save county taxpayers nearly $100,000 per year
“We’re able to not only increase the amount of water for our residents and provide a great solution for some of the county assets here
but we’re able to grow water supply in a very arid part of the country,” he said
The $3.7 million project was funded through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021
City officials emphasized that residents should not notice any difference in water quality or taste
“What we’re trying to do is produce the same quality water that our residents are already getting or better,” said Riverton City Public Works Director Cary Necaise
Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson called the collaborative project a “big win.”
“I really believe that as we have growing populations in this valley
investments like this are essential,” she said
“In an era where water matters for so many different reasons
to do this the right way is all the more important.”
Congressman Burgess Owens praised the initiative as a reflection of Utah’s forward-thinking approach and innovative spirit
We collaborate like no other state in the union
And let me just say that no other state in the union has
We come up with ideas to make sure that the people we serve are satisfied.”
