Details: engage.vic.gov.au The petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council the need for immediate action to address the critical issue of inadequate public transport services in Tarneit The complete lack of reliable bus services in Tarneit’s new and established developments is causing significant challenges for residents impacting their daily lives and economic stability Many residents in Tarneit North are forced to walk up to 30 minutes to reach Tarneit Station operating from 6.00 am to 9.30 pm Monday to Friday fails to meet the community's needs due to high peak-hour demand There are insufficient parking spaces at Tarneit Station which leads to infringement notices for residents who cannot find legal parking adding a financial strain and discouraging the use of public transport The inadequate public transport services in Tarneit also impacts employment and students and puts constraints on basic shopping due to the lack of bus stops in the community We believe that improvements to public transport services in Tarneit are essential for enhancing the quality of life for Wyndham Tarneit residents and reducing reliance on private vehicles and fostering economic growth. The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council calls on the Government to immediately establish a dedicated bus service in Tarneit North with regular and reliable services to and from Tarneit Station provide more frequent and reliable bus services in peak hours and expand parking facilities at Tarneit Station until a new station is established Club Tarneit took over the airwaves when it hosted Fox FM’s ‘Brekky In The Burbs’ on Friday Brendan Fevola and Nick Cody received a warm welcome with visitors and listeners we have so far partnered with were by our side today we are bringing this community together – it’s really satisfying to be part of.“ This project has been prioritised due to its significant impact on road safety and traffic congestion based on both thorough analysis and community feedback Construction for the Stage One intersection works is expected to commence in mid 2025 with all works expected to be completed by mid 2026 The Tarneit Road and Leakes Road Intersection Upgrade Project is a crucial investment in the future of Wyndham City and connected transportation network for all residents and visitors These works form part of our Connecting Wyndham Strategy – an investment into our future to better keep Wyndham connected This project is projected to be delivered by mid 2026 Wyndham Council may intervene to prevent the demolition of Little Growling Café in Tarneit councillor Josh Gilligan proposed that council explore rezoning the site at 180 Davis Road with the intent of preserving its commercial features He called for a report that would include a valuation of the site its potential acquisition and authorise the CEO to engage in discussions with Frasers Property Australia Cr Gilligan referred to a community petition in 2024 which garnered hundreds of signatures calling for intervention to save the site in Tarneit West “Tarneit West is in desperate need of more options than just housing,” he said councillor Preet Singh said it is important that Tarneit and neighbouring Truganina are “not just a city of houses.” “More shopping and commercial sites are needed in the area,” he said said while he supported the idea in principle Cr Szatkowski said the notice of motion should have been conducted in two parts “It may make it beyond our scope – we might be pushed out of affording it,” he said councillor Jennie Barrera said she would not support intervention action and that it was “not our job.” Councillor Jasmine Hill also objected saying “It is well intended In reply Cr Gilligan addressed the suggestion council should not play an intervening role saying that it is reasonable to do so for broader social purposes who will – we may as well pack up and go home,” he said Tarneit artist Camila Paz wants the local community to come and see themselves The Chilean-born artist recently unveiled a mural at Tarneit’s Penrose Place that captures the ethnic diversity of Wyndham “The inspiration for this mural came from the people I’ve encountered during my time living in Wyndham City Council the piece also is a milestone on a very personal and artistic odyssey “I originally came with a working holiday visa just hoping to explore a new country where I didn’t know anyone,” she said “I believe in constantly seeking opportunities and pushing forward—like a flower growing through the cracks in the pavement.” Living in the area for a year and spending time around Penrose gave the artist plenty of muses and a keen sense of the individual within the crowd “I’ve always been passionate about painting portraits because I believe every person has a unique story and I love the idea of bringing those stories together on a single canvas.” She said her neighbours—or subjects– was the thing she valued most about herself I appreciate how multicultural the community is,” she said I’ve had the chance to meet people from so many different backgrounds “My hope is that the community connects with this mural as much as I did while creating it—because with great care and appreciation for the people who bring this place to life.” As the state government’s response to a petition regarding the inadequacy of bus services in Tarneit’s north is not good enough Community spokesperson Aijaz Moinuddin said that while Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams addressed some of the challenges the community is facing the response “fails to offer clear timelines or specific commitments to address them.” Mr Moinuddin said that northern Tarneit still needs a fully developed and regular bus network buses that run every 10-15 minutes during peak hours and 20-30 minutes off peak he said that Tarneit ideally needs four or five new bus routes that provide direct connections to transit hubs community amenities and fill gaps that Metro and V/Line services do not cover The current FlexiRide service is also failing to accommodate the volume of commuters to the point where residents are losing employment “The government is falling to understand that FlexiRide is a supplementary service that works well for low-density or less populous areas but it is not a substitute for a robust public transport system,” he said Ms Williams cited Victoria’s Bus Plan and The Growth Areas Infrastructure Contribution Program (GAIC) She said the state government would introduce the new Route 154 to combat a lack of connectivity in Tarneit which is designed to provide a direct link between Tarneit Station and Laverton Station via the employment area in Truganina and Laverton North,” Ms Williams said “Route 154 will give locals access to jobs in the employment areas that are currently inaccessible by public transport Residents who commute will have a choice of V/Line and Metro train services.” Ms Williams also referred to the upgrading of the Tarneit Station bus interchange and car park that opened in 2023 as well as the new Tarneit West Station as actions being taken by the state government to improve connectivity in the area Mr Moinuddin said that Route 154 does not adequately cover northern Tarneit and that residents want the state government to directly address the current situation will host the main Australia Day program on Sunday Traditionally held at Wyndham Park in Werribee, this flagship event is moving to Tarneit, following smaller Australia Day celebrations previously held in suburbs such as Point Cook and Hoppers Crossing. This provides Tarneit residents the chance to experience the larger-scale festivities locally. The family-friendly event will include live music, children’s activities, and roving performances. Visitors can enjoy a musical act for kids, 60s-inspired tunes, Bollywood dancing, high-energy beats from Africa, and ukulele performances. There will also be free craft activities for children, face painting, and roving entertainers such as bubble artists, circus performers, stilt walkers, and a brass band. Food trucks will be available on-site, or attendees can bring their own picnics. The program will also include the presentation of awards recognising individuals for their contributions to the community. After years of hosting the main event at Wyndham Park in Werribee and smaller events in other suburbs, this move to Tarneit reflects a shift in making the flagship celebration accessible to more parts of Wyndham. Police have arrested four teenagers following an alleged vehicle theft and dramatic collision in Tarneit on Sunday, 8 December. Tarneit resident José was enjoying a family barbecue when he noticed suspicious activity in the neighbourhood. It is alleged the teens were attempting to break into vehicles in the area before fleeing in a white Mazda CX9, reportedly stolen from a local address earlier that morning at around 2 am. José and his friend got into his ute and pursued the teens. A short time later, the stolen Mazda collided with Josés white Holden Colorado Ute at the intersection of Crilly Street and Polly Parade. The impact caused the Mazda to roll onto its roof. Witnesses at the scene reported seeing the chaos unfold, with residents expressing concern about the rising trend of vehicle-related crimes in the area. In an interview with WyndhamTV, José expressed his frustration: “Enough is enough. I’ve got family, I’ve got kids. It shouldn’t be happening. This is a country where you come to work hard, you don’t come to steal. If you want to steal, you go somewhere else, mate, not this country.” He went on to criticise the current bail system, stating: “They can’t be given bail outs, especially when it’s repetitive offences. You know, fair enough, first time it’s disappointing, but everyone gets a chance. But when it’s happening constantly, same people, then no!” Police arrested four teenagers at the scene. One was taken to hospital for minor injuries, while the others are expected to be interviewed later in the evening. A machete was allegedly found in the stolen vehicle, adding to the gravity of the incident. José and his passenger were uninjured and have been released pending further inquiries. Authorities continue to investigate the incident. This is the latest in a series of incidents that have left Tarneit residents uneasy. Police are urging the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help prevent future crimes. road link from Tarneit to Wyndham Vale and Manor Lakes “We have heard loud and clear that we need more local roads to reduce local congestion,” Lister adds “That’s why we have advocated to help secure this project for Wyndham’s north.” Residents have also long raised concerns about Ballan Road which remains heavily congested during peak periods Much of the road is still single carriageway despite being a key route between Wyndham Vale Intersections such as Armstrong Road and Greens Road often see significant delays with locals calling for duplication and upgraded traffic management for years The upgrades are designed to future-proof the road network in one of Australia’s fastest-growing areas They will also improve access to the Princes Highway and key employment precincts in Truganina and Laverton North The Wyndham Ring Road investment is part of the Albanese Government’s $1 billion Road Blitz which matches the near billion-dollar commitment already made by the Allan Government — now topped up with an additional $200 million While residents have welcomed the announcement Originally promised to begin construction in 2021 major works didn’t start until 2023 and are still ongoing including the West Gate Tunnel — a key route for commuters from Wyndham — have also faced years of delays The tunnel was initially due for completion in 2022 Locals say the pressure is on for governments to deliver the Wyndham Ring Road on time — and ensure it keeps pace with the region’s booming development The announcement comes just days after a federal election was called prompting some to question the timing of the funding announcement in what may become a key battleground area Protestors will be taking over Tarneit train station this afternoon locals frustrated with inadequate public transport options in Melbourne’s west state MPs have been invited to attend and support their constituents with the protest organisers expecting a large crowd to attend Protesters are saying they ‘must take to the streets’ after petitioning their local MPs and receiving no commitments “The West needs better buses to address inadequate public transport options and ensure equitable access for fast growing communities,” protest organiser and local Tarneit resident Rifai Raheem says “We urge the government to action bus reform which was promised and to increase funding and accessible public transport for the Western suburbs.” Residents say they are tired of not having access to buses that they can rely on with commuters often subject to long wait times and poor connectivity with other public transport services “I’m forced to drive to the station and park in the surrounding streets due to the lack of regular buses when coming home and later once buses stop I have safety concerns as an older woman,” Hoppers Crossing resident Delwyn Ogden says “Waiting up to 40 mins for a bus or missing the last bus around 9pm leaving no public transport options to get home.” The lack of adequate services is leaving residents with no choice but to drive more often with forced car dependency becoming a huge issue for many The excessive costs of car ownership has been placing a huge financial burden on families who are already struggling to pay their rent Tarneit local resident Saajidh Zizam says door-to-door travel time increases by at least 35 to 50 minutes when he attempts to use buses to get home after work “Buses rarely run through my neighborhood and this inconsistency makes public transport less viable as an option,” Zizam says this has made me dependent on my wife for drop-offs and pick-ups from the station This arrangement has become increasingly burdensome for her as she works full-time and also manages to pick up our children from childcare.” Momentum for the campaign has grown rapidly as communities become increasingly frustrated with the lack of reliable public transport “This protest is the second in a series of coordinated actions that will be happening across the West in the lead up to the next budget and we hope that local MPs will be turn up to support local residents and urge the Public Transport Minister Gabrielle Williams MP and the treasurer Tim Pallas MP to ensure that a significant contribution to bus reform is funded in the next state budget,” Better Buses campaign coordinator Elyse Cunningham says Australasian Bus & Coach (ABC) is the leading bus and coach publication in the region providing news directly to the local industry ABC has released monthly magazines all about buses and coaches while our website and eNewsletter continue to keep the industry updated each and every day.  Two murals, Threads of Belonging and Whispers of the Land, now adorn the exterior walls of Penrose Promenade Community Centre in First Home GuaranteeNathan Mawby has a first-home buyer friendly $690,000-$720,000 asking price — in the nation’s top postcode for those making a start in the property market Victoria has cemented its spot as Australia’s first-home buyer hotspot with almost 10,000 market entrants here using the Australian Home Guarantee Schemes in the past financial year Craigieburn and Clyde were the strongest in the nation and other areas have also been buoyed as buyers priced out of the market as far back as 2021 revive their home dream amid poor home value growth in some suburbs The 9950 Victorians to use the scheme accounts for a whopping 28 per cent of all people using it in the past financial year significant given the state only accounts for 26 per cent of Australia’s population RELATED: 10 Australian dream The program — under which the federal government guarantees home loans for buyers with deposits as low as 5 per cent — is the only national support scheme to help those actively buying a first home A co-buying scheme promised by the Albanese government ahead of the last election is yet to pass through parliament it helped a third of all Australian first-home buyers in the past financial year with 43,800 places taken up according to Housing Australia’s Home Guarantee Scheme Trends and Insights Report released on Monday In Melbourne and major cities like Geelong the scheme is capped for purchases up to $800,000 while the rest of the state has a $650,000 threshold In addition to the 9950 Victorians to use the First Home Guarantee or the Regional First Home Guarantee a further 150 accessed the Family Home Guarantee which supports single parents to buy a home which includes Hoppers Crossing and Tarneit covers an extensive tranche of Melbourne’s new housing estates – and has long been on first-home buyers’ radar The report shows Victoria is home to five of Australia’s top postcodes for the scheme was the national leader with 617 guarantees issued where 485 people had home loans backed by the federal government PropTrack economist Paul Ryan said a big part of Victoria’s success was relatively higher housing construction compared to other parts of the country it’s helping to keep home prices flat or even record declines in the past year or so — a sign that the nation could build its way out of a housing affordability crisis come with first-home buyer friendly price tags as low as $530,000 Mr Ryan said it was also possibly a sign that Victorian market entrants had been better able to stack the federal offer of a 5 per cent deposit with the state government’s stamp duty concession program and its $10k First Home Owner Grant to build a new property Property Home Base buyers agency founding director Julie DeBondt-Barker said while most first-home buyers were looking to escape the rental trap after values pushed past their reach in 2021 and a few were looking to relocate from Sydney for affordability Ms DeBondt-Barker warned many were increasingly worried about a rise in interest rates which they feared would rapidly increase home values “I have buyers saying they have seen the US is bringing their cash rate down and they are now trying to get in before Christmas,” she said because so many investors have gotten out of Victoria is up for grabs at $599,000-$649,000 in one of the state’s top spots for first-home buyers Housing Australia home ownership chief program officer Jennifer Chew said the strength of the program was also demonstrated by the “number of participants that have transitioned out of the scheme due to equity built up” Figures in the report show 19,000 past users of the scheme that has operated since 2020 no longer need the government to guarantee their loan with many reaching 20 per cent equity stake due to rising home values or paying down their mortgage Real Estate Buyers Agents Association of Australia president Melinda Jennison said the number of first-home buyers who had used the scheme but no longer required a government guarantor as the properties value had risen so much showed how important the scheme was the opportunity cost of trying to save at the same time the market is rapidly rising … it becomes prohibitive,” Ms Jennison said Source: Housing Australia Home Guarantee Scheme Trends and Insights report FY 2023-2024 Sign up to the Herald Sun Weekly Real Estate Update. A suspected break-in at one of  the only Australia Post mailboxes servicing areas of Tarneit North and West has sparked concerns over the security of postal votes in the Wimba and Brinbeal Wards which some have described as a “ballot heist,” raises significant questions about the integrity of the current election with thousands of votes still yet to be cast The suspected crime leaves areas of Tarneit North and West without any postal box outside of business hours severely limiting voters’ ability to submit their ballots This is particularly alarming as this single red street posting box is the primary source for after-hours mail lodgement in the region which is already under-resourced in terms of postal vote collection routes Some voters from Brinbeal and Wimba Wards are expected to be affected by this incident There is an Australia Post shop at Wyndham Village Shopping Centre which is only accessible during business hours and a post box is available for after hours Residents are now calling on the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) to take immediate action to safeguard the integrity of the election and provide alternative avenues for voters to safely and securely cast their votes Concerns have also been raised about whether those affected by the suspected break-in will be fined for missing postal vote deadlines voters may be eligible to request a replacement ballot The lack of postal resources in Tarneit has been a long-standing issue with the VEC previously criticised for underestimating the region’s needs during the 2020 election This latest incident underscores those concerns as hundreds of ballot papers could be compromised by the suspected theft Voters across Tarneit are now seeking guidance from the VEC on how they can safely deposit their votes there are growing calls for the Commission to conduct thorough checks on the return of all ballots in the Wimba and Brinbeal Wards to ensure that no tampered votes are included in the count The VEC has yet to issue a formal response to the suspected break-in but there are mounting pressures for urgent measures to be put in place to protect the election process and maintain public confidence in the outcome
