Gisborne-Kyneton United edged out Taylors Lakes by just seven points in a fiercely contested match that went down to the wire
The lead changed multiple times throughout the day as both sides brought their best football in a high pressure
The match was ultimately decided in the final quarter
when experienced ruck Belinda Hateley pushed forward and slotted a crucial goal
giving GKU the breathing room they needed to hold on for the win
dominating the ruck contests and providing first use to a developing midfield group
Korinfsky and Nicholson were relentless through the midfield
linking up beautifully to feed the outside runners Chiara Dickson and Alicia Chadwick and keep the ball moving forward for GKU
Their work around the stoppages helped set the tone in a game where territory was hard-fought
Cowan and Jacobsen-Logan all contributed with two goals each
GKU’s defensive unit held strong under immense pressure from the Taylors Lakes forward line
Mitchell played arguably her best football to date
Lenius and Brancatisano were rock solid in defense
shutting down key opposition attacks and helping to maintain structure when it mattered most
GKU 6.5.41 def Taylor’s Lakes 5.4.34
Round 5 sees GKU take on Sunbury Kangaroos Saturday May 10

The 2025 season is just around the corner so EDFL Media will be previewing each club heading into Round One
we chat to Taylors Lakes coach Steve Burns who provides some insights on their 2025 campaign
"The biggest focus early during pre-season was fitness
which we feel we are on top of at the moment
There has been a significant change in the list
so another focus has been gelling together and getting to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses
which was outstanding and really helped the group come together
We are working really hard to achieve that
but having so many younger players means there is natural growth anyway
"We have recruited strategically and have been lucky to get some players back to the club who are genuine A-grade footballers – and one pointers which is so good for us
Our top-end talent will be a lot better than other years
but as always at Taylors Lakes we will have a competitive second side and also a thirds team."
and Bowey Larizza are some of our younger players at 21-23 years of age who are developing really well and are having outstanding pre-seasons
Jack Gusman is one of our returning players and has really impressed everyone with his talent
"In terms of making the transition from reserves to seniors
and Frank Galtieri are putting their hands up."
"We have a very strong footy club well led by our executive committee that are continually looking to improve the club
"Our women’s team is one initiative that has bought so much to the footy club and we look forward to them having a great year
"The junior program is really starting to come along and has a strong focus on keeping players at the club."
"As a club we are looking to re-establish ourselves as a Division One club
It is back to being the best division in the competition and staying up is the focus first
Player most likely to become a coach one day
Josh Giacomelli when he learns how to speak
Escher Richter and Jaxon Holliday are speed demons
Daniel DeVito (he is my son-in-law-to-be and is very reliable with my daughter as well more importantly!)
Who’s one opposition player you’d love on your side
What match are you most looking forward to in 2025 and why
St Albans due to the connections I have with their players and assistant coach Shaun Thompson
I really like what Todd Clark is doing with Oak Park
which also gives us a lot of confidence coming up the year after them
The Lions are back in Division One after a dominant season in Division Two in which they lost just one game on their way to the flag
EDFL veteran Raaf Rachrache is the only premiership player that has transferred out
with some valuable experience entering the fold in Marc Lock and homegrown pair Danny Younan and Jake Hobbs
It's always hard to place a promoted side but the Lions should be competitive across the board and out of the relegation battle
the 2024 season from Oak Park should give the group a lot of belief to be successful in Division One
but they'll have some stiff competition from improved sides looking to join the four incumbents
Ladder Prediction: Out of the relegation battle
Detectives have charged a Taylors Hill man after two firearms were located in Taylors Lakes on February 27
Officers were first called to reports of a planned affray between multiple groups outside a shopping centre on Melton Highway about 5.20 pm
police disrupted the planned affray and were also made aware of two men allegedly chasing an unknown person through the shopping centre a few minutes earlier
and the gathered groups dispersed without incident
One of the men was cleared to leave the scene
while officers located and seized a firearm from the second man
Investigators searched the second man’s vehicle and located another firearm
The 22-year-old male from Taylors Hill was arrested at the scene and has since been charged

The 2025 season is just around the corner so EDFL Media will be previewing each club heading into Round One. Next, we chat to Taylors Lakes coach Joseph Antonetti who provides some insights on their 2025 campaign.
"The main focus is always on skill. We have done a little bit more running this pre-season compared to last.
"Now it’s about working on the players making better decisions under pressure."
"The two standouts have been Stefania Valerio and Rebecca Foggie. They’ve set the tone from the first night and have been leading from the front.
"Mia Bondar has had a full pre-season unlike last year, and has improved in every area.
"Mia has also helped recruit her good friend and returning Taylors Lakes junior Taylah Egan from Marby who is quick, but also a great competitor.
"Emma Villani is another one who just keeps doing the right things and is looking to build on her first year of senior footy."
"As a team we don't want to change the way we play against different styles of opposition teams.
"Last year we played smarter teams, tougher teams, and teams that just went out and played footy.
"I think if we can combine our natural football ability, and can add more footy smarts and be a bit more physical, then we know we have the talent to compete with the best teams in this division."
For the club it’s Julie Chitsos, the best all rounder ever.
For our team it’s Susan Wulf and Anthony Villani.
Player most likely to become a coach one day?
For footy smarts and communication, Rebecca Foggie.
Easily Rebecca Foggie. I’m constantly trying to dodge footies she’s trying to kick at my head which helps keep me on my toes.
It would be a dead heat between Natalie Collett and Taylah Egan.
I think it’s to not take away a player’s natural instincts by allowing the players to all be their own personalities and individuals, but to adapt that in to a team philosophy. Any person playing any particular sport needs to be given certain freedom to express themselves.
I would say Roxburgh Park. After we beat them last year, they were one of the best finishing teams in the division. They had some quality players and were a physically tough team to play against.
In: Bianca-Lee Byrne (Sunbury Kangaroos), Jessica McKenzie (Caroline Springs), Taylah Egan (Maribyrnong Park).
It was a strong inaugural season for Taylors Lakes' women's side finishing with an even record and just percentage out of finals. Joseph Antonetti will again lead the group and after an offseason with good retention, he will be hoping more good performances are to come.
Firefighters responded to reports of a house fire in Mirror Court
with the blaze believed to be caused by a lightning strike
Firefighters who arrived first on scene commenced an internal attack on the fire which had already broken through the roof line
Due to the partial collapse of the roof a short time later
all firefighting activities were external — the two occupants in the house had reportedly evacuated safely
The fire was deemed under control about 1.50am
with the single storey brick veneer home severely damaged
Taylors Lakes’ strong start to the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association south-west continued on Saturday as it racked up a third straight win
After one of their best wins in a number of seasons against Spotswood in round two
the Lions backed it up against Williamstown on Saturday in a one-dayer
It was a solid performance with the ball for the Lions
before their batters got the job done with ease with the bat
Lions coach Peter Brasher said it was another professional performance by the group
He said speaking at the club after the match
no one could remember the last time the side started the season with three straight wins
“I kind of felt winning yesterday [Saturday] was harder than against Spotswood,” he said
“Against Spotswood there were no expectations
there was the expectation we should win at home against an opposition that is similar to us on paper.”
“We thought we should get it done and were able to do that.”
The Seagulls won the toss and decided to make
George Sakkas and Chalitha Chamoda took two wickets each for the Lions
but they could have restricted them a bit more
“I thought it was 20 more than it should have been and that was the message to the group,” he said
“We had then 2-17 early on and they had a bit of luck
We started off well with Saihaj’s opening spell set it up
“He had 2-7 off six overs at one stage and prevented them from getting off to a flying start
“It wasn’t the best game but we were able to keep in the game
The old Taylors Lakes would have likely dropped their heads.”
hitting the winning runs with more than nine overs remaining
“Chalitha [Chamoda] is thriving and made 41 off 33 balls,” Brasher said
“Steffan [Roberts] and Nilan [Fernando] finished off the work.”
Brasher said they had a couple of players who didn’t get a bat or ball but they would get their chances in the coming weeks
He said the vibe was good across the whole group
The Lions this week travel to face Brighton in another one-dayer
Brasher said the hard work had to continue to keep their good form going
A new community garden in Taylors Lakes has opened with more than 50 raised garden beds of different styles of plans

The garden is a new public facility providing a place for gardening, gathering
It will not be operated with an exclusive rent-a-bed arrangement – instead
More than 40 guests attended the official opening of the garden
Lions club president and project coordinator Phil Clinkaberry shared the origins of the garden which date back to 2022
“We are extremely proud of this achievement – it represents the biggest and most complex project our Lions Club has ever undertaken,” he said
“This project represents hundreds of hours of volunteer work and demonstrates our vision of serving our community with a real sense of purpose.”
Lions Club members raised funds to build the garden
while receiving funding from the Cleanaway Community Benefit fund
the State Government’s Living Local – Suburban grants scheme
After 35 years of serving up the freshest breads and sweets in the area
Taylors Lakes Hot Bread Kitchen will shut up shop next week
the Taylors Lakes Shopping Centre has seen plenty of change
but Petar Jovanovski and his family’s bakery never waivered
Petar said working in bakeries was what his family knew
so when he moved to Australia it was inevitable he would bring the legacy into his generation
and his wife and sister-in-law Lepa and Daniela
opened the bakery together and never looked back
they have kept up with fad trends of multigrain bread
and all the rest to keep the customers happy
“I just want to thank all the customers for coming back all these years,” he said
but I think we grew old with them,” he laughed
With an abundance of grandkids around and an uncountable amount of pastries and breads made
Petar said the time was finally right to settle down and have some rest
after more than three decades of early starts
Petar said he is looking forward to sleep ins and having his morning coffee at 10am instead of 4am
giving locals plenty of time to come in and meet the bread club for a slice and a smile

The race for the Strathmore Community Bank Division Two premiership is down to two as the competition is set for a thrilling finale on Saturday
Taylors Lakes will be hoping to make it a second premiership under Steve Burns
while Westmeadows will be hoping to continue its fairytale run
Taylors Lakes has been the team to beat all season
Unlucky not to feature in the decider 12 months ago
the Lions added some key pieces to ensure there would be no straight sets exit
Add the late inclusion of former VFL-listed player Lockie Rayner and the Lions were favourites entering the season
They showed exactly why and finished on top
Ben Weightman was the biggest name who suffered a season-ending knee injury after kicking 24 goals from four games
A come-from-behind qualifying final win gave the Lions the first spot in the grand final
While the Lions were favourites entering the season
They came down from Division One where they almost avoided relegation after a strong back part of the season
After an off season of disaster heading into 2023
the Tigers were one of the quietest teams in the league heading into this year
Their core group of local talent all re-signed and were keen to build on last season but didn’t add many recruits
and Sunbury Kangaroos showed the Tigers weren’t going to be easy beats
Both Taylors Lakes and Burnside Heights gave them early reality checks though
The Tigers continued to show they were the third best team in the competition
They beat Burnside Heights the second time and drew with Taylors Lakes
the Tigers were looking for their first finals win in 14 years
Against the Northern Saints they overcame a slow start
The slow start and poor goalkicking were again there in the preliminary final against Burnside Heights along with a tricky wind
but the Tigers again came from behind to win through to the grand final
both teams will be keen to end premiership droughts
The Lions last premiership came in 2010 in Division One where Steve Burns was again at the helm
Before this year they hadn’t won a senior final since 2012
The Tigers premiership drought dates back way longer
They hadn’t made a grand final since 2000 and their only premiership was in 1984 with Robert Clark in charge
A new group of players will write their names into the record books
They’ve had the week off and seemed to have all the answers when they’ve needed them
Taylors Lakes has experience on all lines of the ground
Many of the group has been at the club for a number of years
Chris Vulic leads the midfield group and has racked up the possessions all year
Against a Tigers side that struggles with clearances
with five bags of three or more goals for the season
Luke Nappi led the way with 30 goals for the side that was the best scoring side of the competition
Westmeadows has more of a running side that likes to get the ball moving
Dry conditions at a big and open Windy Hill is the dream scenario for the Tigers
The open space will favour their run and carry game
with the Tigers a high disposal efficiency side
Jordan Kosteas is one of the best rebounding defenders in the competition and is also one of the leading possession getters
In attack you’ve got Aaron Evans and Korey Flavel-Wood at the talls' feet
Nathan Sparks is a tackling machine in attack
Ruck Michael Mayne has had a dominant season
but his mids need to ensure they’re reading the ball well
The key to the match in this one will be the start
The Tigers have been poor the last two weeks and managed to get away with it but it’s unlikely to happen a third time with goal kicking another factor
Deer Park and Avondale Heights will both finish their seasons when they face off at Canning Reserve
It's been a very difficult year for the Heights which has seen their coach Paddy Byrne sacked and their time in Premier Division come to an end after they picked up only the one win back in Round 1 against Greenvale
Deer Park have had an up and down first season in Premier Division which has seen them win six games including an upset win over an in-form Airport West last week
When the two sides last met back in Round 7
it was Jamie Madigan’s side who came away with the four points after they defeated Avondale Heights by 48 points thanks to an eight-goal final term to help seal the victory
Danko Bzenic will be one to watch on Saturday for Avondale Heights
The forward has been a shining light for the Heights in a difficult year kicking 26 goals from 17 games in 2024
Aberfeldie will host Greenvale at Clifton Park in a game that has huge finals ramifications and will likely shape the finals
After Greenvale and Airport West both lost last weekend
the Jets held their spot in the top five but are in desperate need of a win if they want to stay there
If Greenvale come out on top they are guaranteed finals footy
however a loss and an Airport West win will see them watching finals footy from the sidelines
will stay in fourth spot with an elimination final ahead
it was Aberfeldie who came away with the victory
For the Jets to win and qualify for finals footy
Josh Porter will need to step up once again
The forward has been in fine form in recent weeks kicking six goals in his last two appearances against Keilor and East Keilor
but was held goalless the last time these two sides met
If the mercurial forward can have another day out it could see his side’s season extend by at least one week
Strathmore will be hoping to make it three wins in a row in the lead up to another finals series when they take on East Keilor at Lebanon Reserve
Saturday’s match doesn’t mean much in terms of finals ramifications with the Mores set to play Pascoe Vale in a qualifying final next week
while East Keilor have failed to back up last year's finals appearance and have slipped to ninth on the ladder
When the two sides last came up against each other back in Round 1
it was Strathmore who picked up their first win since last year's preliminary final
winning by 73 points thanks to four goals each from Amin Naim
With the VFL season now over for many clubs
Strathmore could be boosted by the return of Matthew Foley
If all three superstars take the field for the home side on Saturday
it could be a difficult day for the Cougars
Keilor will be hoping to finish off the home and away season on a positive note when they take on Essendon Doutta Stars at Nipper Jordan Oval
It’s been another almost perfect season for Mick McGuane’s men in their hunt for back-to-back premierships with the Blues picking up 16 wins from their 17 matches and are two games clear on top of the ladder
Douttas have avoided relegation once again but have slipped to eighth on the ladder and haven’t won since upsetting Aberfeldie back in Round 14
When the two sides last met back in Round 9
winning by 147 points thanks to 12 goals in the third term
Chris Kosmas will be one to keep an eye on at Nipper Jordan Oval in Saturday
Kosmas' focus will now be on winning another premiership for the Blues
The midfielder has been in fine form for the Blues this year with 28 goals from just 12 games and another big game on Saturday could be a sign of things to come
Pascoe Vale will host Airport West at Raeburn Reserve in a season-defining games for the Eagles
After a stunning turnaround from a 0-7 start to upsetting the reigning premiers two weeks ago and looking like charging towards a finals berth
the Eagles slipped up last week against Deer Park and have left themselves with a lot to do against Pascoe Vale on Saturday
A win wouldn’t guarantee the men in green and white a finals berth with Brent Taylor’s men needing Greenvale to lose to Aberfeldie on Saturday as well if they want their season to continue
Pascoe Vale are certain to finish in second spot and play Strathmore in a qualifying final
it was the Panthers that handed the Eagles their seventh loss for the year
winning by 64 points thanks to eight goals from Ahmed Saad
It'll take another big effort from the Eagles
The finals start with West Coburg and Hillside kicking off Strathmore Community Bank Division One action at Greenvale Recreation Reserve this Saturday
The Burgers go into the finals series in good form having won their final regular season match by 108 points and four out of their last five by over 60 points
The two sides faced off twice in the season
once in Round 2 where Hillside were victorious in a thrilling match that was decided by just three points
and also in Round 13 where West Coburg got revenge
From these past games it is clear that if both teams are at their best
Hillside will go into the qualifying final having lost their last game of the season to Maribyrnong Park by 50 points
While this doesn’t sound great for their form and confidence
they did a better job against Marby than what West Coburg did the week prior
Josh Covelli will be the one to watch for a number of reasons with the star forward two goals away from triple figures
but he was also the one to break the game open in the first meeting between these two sides
He proved unstoppable in the final quarter and lifted the Sharks to a stirring win
The winner will meet Marby for a spot in the decider
with the loser to face the winner out of the eliminator
St Albans will take on Oak Park in an elimination final at Salesian College Oval on Sunday
St Albans go into this weekend's final with a far superior home and away record as they lost just the four matches across the season and have won four of their last five leading into this week's match
The two sides faced off twice in the home and away season with St Albans coming out on top both times
First in Round 5 by 39 points and more recently last week where the Saints won by 22 points
Josh Carter scored four goals and is someone Oak Park will need to pay close attention to this weekend
Oak Park head into the match as underdogs as they finished fifth on the ladder after the regular season and are yet to defeat a team ranked higher than them
the Oakers have won six of their last seven games and head into the finals in good touch despite a loss to the Saints last week
The Division Two finals kick off this Saturday with Taylors Lakes taking on Burnside Heights at Salesian College Oval for a spot in the grand final
Taylors Lakes finished the season in first place with an almost flawless home and away record which saw them lose just one game
The Lakers' success has been down to their incredible offensive abilities as they are the highest scoring team in the division
The two teams have faced off twice during the season
the first time was in Round 11 where Taylors Lakes were victorious by four points in a thriller
The second time was just last week and was a 15-point win for the Lions
Luke Nappi scored four goals for Taylors Lakes in their most recent meeting and will be one Burnside will look to keep quiet this weekend
Burnside Heights have enjoyed a great season so far as well finishing in second place with just the three losses
two of those losses came against Taylors Lakes and they remain the team they will have to overcome if they are to win the premiership
The replenished tall stocks have been damaging for the Bears this year and will need them to fire again and stretch the Taylors Lakes defenders
Bears leading goal kicker Daniel Hovey was held goalless last week
and will be one Cole Harvey will need to stamp his authority on the game
Westmeadows and Northern Saints will battle it out in an elimination final at Greenvale Recreation Reserve on Sunday for a place in the preliminary final
Westmeadows head into Sunday's final as the higher ranked team having finished third
due to a shaky finish to the season they aren’t as firm favourites as they may have looked a few weeks ago
the Tigers recorded just one win as well as two losses and a draw
Both teams have faced off against each other twice this year with Westmeadows winning the first encounter in Round 4 by 39 points
before the Northern Saints hit back in Round 11 defeating Westmeadows by 24 points
The Northern Saints' last four games of the season were enough for them to secure a finals berth but were not without some shaky moments as well
The Saints won two of their last four while also drawing their last match of the season against Glenroy
Rain played a factor in their last meeting with tough
contested footy playing more in the Saints' favour with Westy damaging when able to run
Section Road will be conducive to that footy but with rain potentially around
we'll have to wait and see how this one plays out
The EDFL is proud to announce the 2024 Strathmore Community Bank Division Two Team Of The Year
The big risers in Burnside Heights dominate the team
led by Coach and Captain of the Team of the Year Cole Harvey and Jordan Hughes
Bears teammates Lachlan Evans and Dion Lawson enjoyed a strong partnership in the midfield and will start in the engine room
with Tyson Iglesias and Nick Gregson at either end of the ground
Rebounding Westmeadows defenders Jordan Kosteas and Jarrod Petersen line up in the back pockets
with Taylors Lakes' Jack Burns moving from the bench of last year's team to half back
He will join Sunbury Kangaroo Mitch Kook who retains his spot from last year's team
with Glenroy's Cody Wight starting at centre half back
Taylors Lakes star Chris Vulic will complete the midfield unit with Hughes
with Aaron Evans (Westmeadows) and Sam Godden (Hadfield) lining up on the wings
Up front is a daunting proposition with back-to-back leading goal kicker and Team of the Year full forward Khoder Taleb (60 goals) starting alongside Northern Saints partner in crime Nick Bruno (57 goals)
Coburg Districts' Jack McNamara joins Gregson as versatile tall forwards with Hadfield's Josh Trembearth and Westmeadows' Korey Flavel-Wood comprising the forward six
Starting on the bench is Lachlan Rayner (Taylors Lakes)
All EDFL Teams of the Year are compiled based solely on the input of each club’s senior coach
The 2024 Strathmore Community Bank Division Two Team of the Year was to recognise the best players of the 2024 home-and-away season
Other factors such as reputation or form in previous seasons were not to be taken into account
The Coach and Captain of the Year are determined based on the feedback provided by the senior coaches
In a quarter of minimal house and unit price movement in Victoria

The 2024 season is just around the corner so EDFL Media will be previewing each club heading into Round One
we chat to Taylors Lakes coach Steve Burns who provides some insights on their 2024 campaign
"A lot of our focus has been on refining the game plan
Fitness again is always a focus for us to improve each preseason which we have done."
"We haven’t heavily recruited but have picked up exactly what we wanted to plug the holes we needed to
The list is very good with numbers and depth looking great."
"Bowey and Torey Larizza have had big preseasons and are ready to improve
and Tomi Ibarra have all been really good as well
and Vinnie Schiavello have been the standouts but Ben Weightman will be our best recruit."
"Our goals are as always – try to make finals
"The club is going great off the field and our senior list will continue to grow and develop."
It was a steep rise back into finals which was only a kick away from a grand final berth
What was your message to the group at the end of the season
Learn from the experience of playing finals
most of our group had not played finals before and while we didn’t win one
we showed some really good signs for this year and beyond
Let the losses hurt and remember them during preseason and during the year
You stressed that a focus last year was to continue building a good culture and obviously a winning culture always helps
but have you identified any key differences within the group from when you took over
they still have a way to go as they are so young but they're a lot fitter and their body shapes are really coming along
Their general training form has improved greatly
Our bond and culture is fantastic and will hopefully continue to get even better
One opposition player you'd love on your side

The Lions enjoyed a significant boost up the ladder and were agonisingly close to a grand final berth in 2023
With their list retention and the recruits they've brought in
on paper it looks as though Taylors Lakes will only improve again
While we share Steve Burns' sentiment that it'll yet again be an open and even competition
his group are well and truly in the premiership conversation – if not the favourites – and they'll have a chance to avenge their preliminary final heartbreak when they take on Sunbury Kangaroos in Round 1
While several teams vie to unseat reigning Horsham District Football Netball League senior premier Harrow-Balmoral
the competition at the other end of the ladder could be decided this weekend
Natimuk United will host Kaniva-Leeor United in a battle of 11th versus 10th on the ladder
with the loser likely to claim this season’s wooden spoon
which came against the Cougars in round one
has struggled for much of the season but achieved two victories last month
thanks largely to a pair of appearances by former AFL star Harley Bennell
Natimuk United is coming off a 9.11 (65) to 5.11 (41) loss to Taylors Lake at the weekend
The Rams were attempting to reverse a one-point loss they suffered at the Lakers’ hands in round two
but Taylors Lake grabbed an early advantage with eight scoring shots to three in the first term
Natimuk United came roaring back with four goals to one in the second term to take an advantage into the long break
but the Rams were unable to find the goals in the second half
Bray Cullinan and Tyson Kidney were top performers for the Lakers
while youngster Kaiden Sudholz and veteran Jono Lovel played best for the Rams
The Cougars battled manfully against the visiting Baggies
but lacked the firepower to keep up with the league’s second-placed side
Kaniva-Leeor United’s Sam Vivian and Swifts’ Ryan Folkes each found plenty of the ball in the midfield
while Baggie full forward Paul Summers added another six goals to his personal tally
Pimpinio handed Rupanyup its third straight loss
beating the Panthers 16.13 (109) to 8.6 (54) at Pimpinio Recreation Reserve
The 55-point result was even more comprehensive than the 35-point defeat the Tigers dealt Rupanyup in round two
and was orchestrated by captain Jason Westley
Rupanyup coach Brayden Ison tried to keep his side in the contest with four goals while Mitch Gleeson battled for the Panthers
The loss saw Rupanyup slip below Pimpinio into sixth place on the ladder
facing a critical game against Kalkee in round 14 after a bye this weekend
Other games on Saturday saw Noradjuha-Quantong easily defeat Edenhope-Apsley 24.16 (160) to 2.7 (19) with seven goals from full forward Judah Hobbs
while Laharum stifled Kalkee 9.10 (64) to 2.2 (14) as midfielder Reuben Launder led the way
This weekend’s games feature Pimpinio against Laharum in a top-five battle at Cameron Oval
Taylors Lake at Edenhope-Apsley and Harrow-Balmoral at home to Noradjuha-Quantong
in addition to the clash between Natimuk United and Kaniva-Leeor United at Natimuk Showgrounds

New Taylors Lakes coach Peter Brasher thought his chance to be a senior coach had passed him
Having been around cricket for a long time
senior assistant coach and dad to some talented cricketing sons
But this Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association season will be his first in charge of a senior program
”It wasn’t something that I planned and I’m thankful they’ve given me the opportunity
“The opportunity though came up and I grabbed it with both hands
Brasher said the club had spoken to him about the role before advertising it as they were hoping to get a playing-coach
they went back to Brasher who was more than happy to put his hand up for it
Brasher has long been involved in the club
he has played a big role in their Craig Shield team
He said seeing the juniors coming through there would be some exciting times ahead
“There’s quite a big group coming through and it might take a few years to get them into the system,” he said
“We’ve set up the last two years a Taylors Lakes Academy as well
We’ve invited some kids and then we’ve opened it up.”
Brasher said from a senior side of things they want to build on what they’ve been doing the past few years
Only the first XI side out of the top four teams failed to make finals after a poor end to the season
“The club’s first XI has won 12 games in the last four years and seven came last season,” Brasher said
“We were in the mix with three or four rounds to go
I think it’s been five years since we have played finals
“We also want to get our three other teams in the finals too.”
Brasher said they would have a different looking line up for the 2023-24 season
He said the majority of their batting line up had returned
headlined by Steffan Roberts and Nilan Fernando
The bowling on the other attack will be very different
“Most of the bowling attack will not be returning,” Brasher said
“What that does is it gives some young bowlers the chance to put their best foot forward and take their games to the next level
“Some have been in the seconds for a couple of years.”
Brasher said plenty of work would be done in the coming weeks having just been appointed
He said they would like to add some more players to their list if they were to come available

The company launched in 2000 with just two brands and today carries 400
the beauty powerhouse will finally open its first physical store
at Southland Shopping Centre in Cheltenham
Customers will get one with every in-store purchase – always
“Over Covid we saw a big shift to digital environments and then following that
people were really happy to get back into shopping in more of a physical environment,” Adore Beauty’s head of brand marketing
“It was much more logical for us then to consider having a physical presence in the market.”

How To Pack When You Want To Look Smart (Without an Iron)
How Often Should You Actually Be Washing Your Clothes
we chat to new Taylors Lakes coach Joseph Antonetti who provides some insights on their 2024 campaign
"We have definitely been focusing on skill
The assistant coach Evan and myself are big believers in getting the basics right and keeping it fun and engaging as well
"Now that we’ve finally had our first practice match
we are working on being more positive and taking the game on
We want the women to back themselves and continually improve."
"Charlie Goodwin was outstanding down back in our first practice match
and in any match simulation we’ve done at training
She is strong in the air and cut off several forward entries
Obviously also Courtney McCormack following on from her huge 2023 is a midfielder who runs all day and is fearless
but was absolutely tenacious all day and has the ability to play anywhere we needed her
Amelia Alexander is another one we’ve brought in that brings class
and goes forward and knows where the goals are
was a standout on-field leader who is good at directing and is just a smart footballer who makes good decisions."
"Being the first women’s team in the club’s history
there’s a big focus from everyone at the club to ensure the environment is good
We want new players to come to the club and enjoy it
It’s about consolidating and making sure this women’s team is around for many years to come
we still feel we have enough quality all over the ground to do something special this year
but with a lot of new teams it’s difficult to gauge at this stage so we won’t put a bar up to measure it by!"
Surely one of our co-skippers and stay at home full forward Sarah McNally
She has a good set shot routine (the five and five rule) and is always relaxed
But it’s probably between Hannah Sullivan and her good mate Jorja Brink
They are great characters who bring a different dynamic that you need in any team
in general we have a really good group of people
But you’ve always got to make exceptions for club legends so I’d have to say Sarah McNally wins that again and a close second for being a good sport is probably Hazel Bursic who has racked up the most nicknames during the preseason by far
So myself and Evan have mysteriously been banned from that responsibility somehow
So I think that goes to his daughter Abbey who has been responsible for a lot of the team bonding stuff away from the club
Her list would be a bit more inspiring than mine and Evan’s favourites
Which side are you looking forward to playing the most and why
We had a great finish to 2023 with the Sunbury Kangaroos
and I met some lovely people there and leave with good memories – so personally I’m looking forward to that one
It will be a day of mixed emotions but it should be a tough match
and will be one of the contenders so it will also be a good test for us as well
It's a new dawn for Taylors Lakes who enter their own women's side for the first time in the club's history and they've managed to build a strong list
On top of a well-sized list with a good blend of experienced and younger players
new coach and former Sunbury Kangaroos coach Joseph Antonetti has managed to bring Team of the Year member Courtney McCormack to the Den to aide in achieving on-field success as early as possible to retain and build their burgeoning program

The operator of a national childcare chain is being investigated for trading while insolvent and is under pressure from creditors as some of its centres permanently close and staff go unpaid
One Melbourne branch of Genius Childcare recently shut its doors permanently
while another has been closed for a week after staff there refused to turn up for work amid claims they had not been paid

The Age spoke to three insiders familiar with the situation at Genius
which had operated seven centres in Melbourne and spruiked another nine it planned to open
They agreed to speak anonymously for fear of jeopardising their employment or concerns over future payouts
One said the chain was now “crumbling” under pressure from angry parents
Parents using the Genius Childcare centre at Taylors Lakes in Melbourne’s north-west said they were unable to go to work after it abruptly closed on Thursday – leaving them with no one to look after their children – when staff refused to work
and staff there transferred to the nearby Mont Albert facility

Some Genius employees say they have been forced to turn to food banks for meals after months of irregular or late payment of their wages
Queensland and the ACT have shut their doors recently
subject to allegations of regulation breaches due to cleanliness
issues with fencing or disputes with landlords claiming rent had not been paid
The shutdowns come as companies controlled by Genius owner Darren Michael Misquitta are pursued through the courts or the corporate insolvency process by creditors – including the Tax Office and Victoria’s State Revenue Office – with claims worth at least $12.8 million
the United Workers Union representing childcare workers at the chain is suing Misquitta and three of his companies in the Federal Circuit Court
alleging employees are owed more than $7 million in unpaid superannuation
was wound up in a court-ordered liquidation in 2023 after it failed to pay nearly $5 million in rent and other charges for an upmarket daycare centre it operated on Collins Street in the city
liquidator Paul Vartelas advised creditors of a company called Horizontal 1 that he believed Misquitta
had breached his statutory obligations by allowing it to accrue debts while already insolvent
“It is my view that the director breached his obligations … by allowing the company to trade while insolvent,” Vartelas wrote in a report to creditors that has also been lodged with corporate regulator the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC)
“My investigations … are currently ongoing.”
who acted in the Collins Street liquidation
notified ASIC in late 2023 that Misquitta had allegedly breached the Corporations Act by failing to hand over company books and records
The regulator was contacted for comment but did not respond before deadline on Tuesday
The Genius head office has not responded to detailed questions from The Age
nor has Misquitta – who is believed to be overseas – responded to attempts to seek comment
One Genius employee said years of hard work by staff were “just crumbling in front of our eyes”
“We’re trying to support the centres in every area that we can
but we’re just not given the tools to succeed,” they said
about 34 families with children enrolled at the Taylors Lakes centre were told via an email – seen by The Age – that they did not have childcare the next day due to “unexpected staffing challenges”
“Please know that this decision was not made lightly
as we prioritise the safety and wellbeing of all children and staff,” it read
Genius did not charge families for Thursday
said “staffing challenges have not yet been resolved”
The Age has been told the centre will remain closed on March 5
Another Genius worker said through tears that the centre
which was running at 40 per cent occupancy
was temporarily closing because staff were about 11 days past their scheduled pay date
Taylors Lakes parent Samantha – who declined to give her last name for privacy reasons – said she had removed two children
Samantha said she believed the operators had no respect for parents or staff
“It’s down to those staff members that were still coming into work and not getting paid,” she said
“It’s disgusting that the company is allowed to get away with it
They are not paying rent or being able to put food on their table or get fuel
The government definitely needs to step in and show us that they are invested
said she did not know day to day whether she would be able to go to work without childcare
accused Genius of flagrantly breaching its duties as an employer
“The latest example of educator walk-outs at Taylors Lakes in Victoria follows earlier examples at Dural in NSW and also in the ACT
where educators have refused to put up with Genius’ nonsense,” she said
Victorian Minister for Children Lizzie Blandthorn said long daycare was a matter for the federal government and the independent regulator
Federal Minister for Early Childhood Education Anne Aly said state and territory regulators were responsible for investigating serious incidents and took immediate action if they had any concerns about child safety

Families at a new housing estate in Melbourne’s west can now enjoy a new park featuring a playground
Messara Park has been delivered by Development Victoria as part of the Taylors Quarter residential estate
Development Victoria engaged Melbourne-based landscaping company Naturform to construct the new park
with works completed in late September 2022
has been designed in consultation with the local community and Brimbank City Council
and will become a fantastic meeting point for residents and visitors to the estate
Sustainability is a big feature of the park with five wind turbines installed that will generate electricity to assist with powering the park’s interactive lighting
Messara Park has been designed to provide stormwater capture and re-use within this new neighbourhood through the provision of both above and below ground water storage
The storage basin has been blended into the landscape
while also offering a space for informal sports
Taylors Quarter was the last major land release in Taylors Lakes and is located close to transport
The Taylors Quarter estate is also in close proximity to the Watergardens Shopping Centre
Watergardens Railway Station and Taylors Creek Reserve

The stabbing of a 16-year-old boy in Caroline Springs has sparked calls for stronger action on early intervention of knife crime
a student from Springside West Secondary College was rushed to hospital after being stabbed during an altercation
accessed the school grounds and sought the teen out before fleeing in a black Honda sedan
A Victoria Police spokesperson said public safety remained a key priority and that efforts would focus on cracking down on knife crime
“We completely understand the concern felt within the community when knife crime occurs in public places,” the spokesperson said
“That’s why we have boosted both vehicle and foot patrols in the Fraser Rise area
with officers from the public order response team and transit safety division providing ongoing support.”
we have a number of proactive operations coming up in the Brimbank and Melton area to target those in the community who think carrying a weapon is acceptable.”
Les Twentyman Foundation general manager of programs Chris Lacey said this was not the right approach to the issue
“You cannot police your way out of this and having police officers knocking on the door of kids who are seen as ‘at risk’ of offending is not a solution,” he said
“If we take the stick approach and throw kids behind bars
that will lead to institutionalisation and career criminals who will only become more dangerous to society
intensive and positive early intervention programs aimed at ensuring that kids do not make the decision to pick a knife or a machete up in the first place.”
The charity runs an early intervention program at Taylors Lakes Secondary College
something that Mr Lacey believes provides youths with crucial access to help
“When a child is starting to rebel and make poor decisions … it is incredibly difficult for parents and teachers and teachers to effectively intervene,” he said
“That’s why providing effective support through schools is so important
with the benefit of a youth worker to build trust and … bring in other support services.”
Mr Lacey said this can come in a variety of forms but that the bottom line is getting to the root cause of the problem before it is too late
“Whether that be in the form of mental health
or simply involving the child in positive activities and mentoring – the youth worker is there to support both the child and the family.”
The organisation was driven by the words of their late founder
‘let’s keep kids out of courtrooms and in classrooms’,” said Mr Lacey

they loved every inch,” Mr Migliorisi said

PropTrack’s latest data showing most Melbourne suburbs are still ahead compared to last year
but while the median price in Taylors Lakes is currently 9.9 per cent up from a year ago
suburbs such as Box Hill and Mulgrave are only up 5.7 per cent and 6.9 per cent respectively for the past 12 months
“People who do well in this sort of market can win on both sides
“We are thinking of moving to the eastern side of Melbourne
So I can potentially buy in a more desirable and (formerly) more expensive suburb.”
Taylors Lakes family Sean Kim and Rebekah Park
The family plan to wait and see what the numbers say about their next suburb
but in the shorter term they were planning to celebrate with dinner out on Saturday night
Mr Kim said he had been half nervous and half excited leading into the auction
we had people lined up outside our house with 35 families (more than 100 people) coming through,” Mr Kim said
“I’d never seen that before and even the agent was quite shocked
which appealed to a wide array of family buyers
Main Road real estate director and co-founder Anthony Orellana said four bidders making offers as high as $100,000 above their peers showed just how far families in the area would go for a fully renovated house
“It’s pretty special what they have done with the home
there’s a lot of thought and love there,” Mr Orellana said
He added that Mr Kim was likely on to something
with quality homes in Taylors Lakes having weathered rising interest rates and the current market correction well so far
A light and bright decor was also part of the home’s charm
With he and his business partner of two years both having grown up in St Albans commission houses
he added it wasn’t just the west’s homes that were doing well
“A lot of buyers are adamant that it’s undervalued,” he said
because people from the west’s homes are holding their worth more than in the east.”
schools and even Overnewton Castle had all added to the appeal

"We feel we have addressed all of these areas on the training track and we need to see how this translates against real opposition."
"We have tried really hard to address the list we were given and feel we have put in place a list capable of being competitive every week
we would – like all clubs – love another one or two talls
We have been lucky to get some returning players who will add greatly our list and depth in Trent Forbes
"Some of our new recruits are Raaf Rachrache
and Sammy Kosmak who should all make us better
most of the guys we have bought in have played at a higher level and present themselves well culturally which we believe is important as well
and Tomi Ibarra have had huge pre seasons and will continue to improve at this level."
we are looking for improvement and growth from the majority of our list
we haven’t set expectations on the group as such
but finals is the obvious goal in what is going to be a very even competition
Any side on any given week could beat each other so being prepared
having depth and availability of better players will all play a big part in where we finish."
"The main goal for this group is to start winning games of football and learning to win close games together
and for the club it is about regaining respect in the competition and continually looking to improve our standing in the EDFL
The committee have worked extremely hard to get the club profitable again and we have added people into the club in sponsorship and some supporters getting back involved in assisting us – we will continue to evolve."
Chevy Clements (St Albans) & Aaron Vendramini (Westmeadows)
Joel Sposato (Hillside Superules) & Jamie Bursic (Western Saints)
Steve Burns is back at the Den with a full pre-season under his belt with a playing group that boasts a lot of familiar and formidable faces in the EDFL community
and Aaron Vendramini are among these recruits as Burns aims to push Taylors Lakes up the ladder in the Strathmore Community Bank Division Two competition following five wins in 2022
Rachrache is coming off a 29-goal season with Roxburgh Park and will provide a strong option ahead of the footy
while Toa adds a versatile big body to the mix
With plenty of recruits and returning players
it will be an interesting watch with Taylors Lakes who'll have an immediate test against Oak Park at Lionheart Reserve

Things could have gone belly up for Taylors Lakes after Sam Tankard departed as coach during the 2019 pre-season
but new coach Charles Cuzzupi quickly re-established some stability
Four victories were enough to avoid relegation by season's end
with the Lions showing plenty of heart in close wins over Hillside and Roxburgh Park
losing all eight contests against last year's finalists by an average margin of 11 goals
Jack Twomey (Therry Penola) & Josh Zakhour (Northern Saints)
Lachie Tanner & Nick English (all Waverley Blues)
James Vistarini & Nick Franzi (all Woodend-Hesket)
Jason Cuschieri & James Todoroski (both Keilor Park) & Evan Giannoukas (East Keilor)
Taylors Lakes may be one of Division 1's big improvers in Season 2020
much in the same way Westmeadows was in 2019
Lakes has added some quality experience in EDFL Team of the Decade sharpshooter Patrick Rose and ex-Brisbane Lion Scott Harding and with coach Charles Cuzzupi now in a far more settled position than he was when he replaced Sam Tankard halfway through the 2019 pre-season
the Lions are primed to climb the ladder in 2020
The new-look forward combo of Rose and Rhys Deacon
with Jake Hobbs and James McGrath playing key support roles
will be sure to give opposition back lines plenty of headaches and if Lakes can get a clear run at it
then the top four should be well within its sights
ON Wednesday night Taylors Lakes’ women travelled to Avondale Heights to form a new-look EDFL Women’s team
Taylors Lakes originally didn’t have enough numbers to fill a side
saw this as an opportunity to grow her side at Canning Reserve
“We thought we’d just help our mates in the EDFL and give their girls the opportunity to keep playing,” Francis told essendondfl.com.au
“We thought it was the best opportunity for them and us to field the team.”
Francis says there are about 15 Avondale Heights players who have combined with the five Taylors Lakes players
One player in particular was Francis’ motivation to get an EDFL Women’s side up and running at Canning Reserve
Rita Ceravolo (pictured) played Auskick at Avondale Heights and has stayed at the club ever since
Francis says she is coming up to her 100th game and wanted to keep her at the club to experience that achievement
As far as the achievement of making finals
Francis says that’d simply a bonus for her side
“There’s a lot of clubs that have been playing for a couple of years that are set up and are really on their way
we’re just going to take it one game at a time and just build on that and hopefully get success in a couple of years’ time
“If anything happens this year and we get into finals then it’s a bonus.”
Francis says that the combined side has given the Avondale Heights women a new experience that will change their role at the club
“It’s given that opportunity for our girls to get motivated and feel part of the club
not just helpers and volunteering,” she said
“They’re actually going to be on the ground and pulling on the big white V.”

A heartbroken ex-girlfriend is 'disgusted' after her first love was mowed down and killed in a hit-and-run by a group she believes to be members of a rival gang
Elijah Agua, 16, was killed after being hit by a car while crossing Chichester Drive at Taylors Lakes, in Melbourne's northwest, just before 7pm on Monday.
Two other boys, aged 15 and 16-years-old, were also struck by the vehicle and taken to the Royal Childrens Hospital in a stable condition with chest injuries.
A homicide investigation has been launched with police believing the teens were deliberately run down in a stolen white Mitsubishi Pajero.
Elijah's ex, Isabelle Emeni, described the death of her first love as 'heartbreaking', saying she's been left 'very angry, it made me feel disgusted'.
In a video posted to TikTok in the early hours of Wednesday, Isabelle said she had 'never cried so much and had such an empty soul'.
She previously posted a compilation video of moments from the former couple's relationship with the title 'Forever your world Habib' ('beloved one' in Arabic).
Despite the pair having gone their separate ways, Isabelle had nothing but kind words to describe her ex.
'He had a good heart, he always showed love, he always showed respect, always showed loyalty to the ones he actually loved,' she told 9News.
She suspects the incident was sparked by conflict between rival gangs in the area and called for a stop to the needless violence.
'It just gets to the point where enough is enough and it needs to stop,' Isabelle said.
Nearby residents came to the teenager's aid where they found Elijah in a 'bad state' while the other two teens were still in the mood for a fight.
Residents saw machetes and other weapons strewn across the scene, reported 9News.
One resident described the 'heart-wrenching' moment when she held Elijah's head straight while another man performed CPR in an attempt to save his life.
An argument is believed to have broken out between two groups of boys just prior to the hit-and-run in a nearby park where a machete was later recovered by police.
Homicide detectives and the Major Collision Investigation Unit are taking the lead on investigations as enquiries begin into the possibility of the crash being deliberate.
Anyone with information or dashcam footage related to the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

IMPROVEMENT is on everyone’s mind at Lionheart Reserve
The Lions dramatically fell away from the Essendon Ford Division 1 pack after going down to West Coburg in the 2014 Preliminary Final
They combined for only 10 wins in the following two seasons
but managed to bounce back with a solid 8-8 campaign last year that included wins over finalists Airport West and Tullamarine
If Taylors Lakes would have been able to reverse their fortunes in winnable games against East Keilor and Westmeadows down the stretch
Coach Sam Tankard is quick to cite their steady improvement in wins over the last three seasons and knows that continuing that trend this year could
“We put ourselves in a position to make finals and unfortunately we got injuries at the wrong time
so it was a bit disappointing,” he told essendondfl.com.au
“We missed out on percentage – but I thought it was a good improvement
“We’ve improved every year and we’re hopefully looking to do the same again this year.”
It’s a new-look forward line and some added depth in the midfield that has been addressed over the summer
Rhys Deacon and Sam Kennedy all looking to add some potency to the Lions’ attack
all capable of kicking 30 or 40 goals each,” Tankard said
but we’d be hoping to pinch that fourth spot
“I think we’re able to beat anyone on our day
“It just seems like that sort of comp this year.”
Taylors Lakes’ three-year finals absence may be the result of refusing to break the bank
and for the time being the Lions don’t plan on pushing the $200,000 limit this year
So Tankard is instead keen to introduce some fresh blood into his senior line-up and increase the overall experience of the group
so you try and work with what you’ve got,” he explained
“We’re playing a lot of kids (and) trying to get more games into them
“Chris Vulic is one (youngster) we’re pretty excited about that will play seniors all year
“We need to get our improvement from some of those guys that have got 20 to 30 senior games into them
“If all of those guys can elevate a little bit
I think that’s what can take us to the finals.”
Good Friday at Hillside is our first opportunity to get a look at Taylors Lakes at the end of the month
