Transport for NSW Maritime is leading a Masterplan for this important maritime asset
Transport for NSW Maritime is leading an exciting Masterplan process for Ulladulla Harbour
Working in partnership with Shoalhaven Council
we're creating a shared a vision for this important maritime asset
The Masterplan process is expected to take approximately 12-18 months to complete and will establish a roadmap for the harbour's future development
Ulladulla Harbour is a minor port administered by Transport for NSW Maritime as the Crown Lands Manager
the coastal area around Ulladulla was home to Aboriginal peoples including the Dhurga
The name "Ulladulla" likely derives from Aboriginal words meaning "safe harbour," though some local legends suggest it evolved as a compromise between these terms and "holey dollar," an early NSW currency
European presence began in 1827 when Thomas Florance surveyed the coastline and Reverend Thomas Kendall received the first land grant
Kendall established "Kendall Dale" north of present-day Milton
raising cattle and harvesting timber until his tragic drowning in 1832
later became one of Australia's celebrated poets with support from the Ulladulla community
Early settlers established "The Settlement" (now Milton) and began using "The Boat Harbour" (Ulladulla) for shipping
initially securing vessels with just a chain
The challenging terrain made land transportation difficult
emphasizing the harbour's importance for the region's development
Ulladulla flourished as a timber port in the 1840s
David and James Warden established shipbuilding operations inside the harbour around 1840
Local industries expanded to include dairying
Ulladulla's population reached approximately 300
A wooden jetty built in 1859 secured service from the Illawarra Steam Navigation Company and was replaced by a government stone pier seven years later
A lighthouse constructed on the harbour breakwater in 1873 was relocated to Warden Head in 1889
Ulladulla Harbour is administered by Transport for NSW Maritime and serves as home port to the South Coast's largest commercial fishing fleet
Monthly markets create a vibrant community space that honours its history
The vision is to transform the harbour into a thriving hub that balances commercial needs with recreational appeal
strengthening its connection to the town while serving both industry and the public.
A Masterplan is a document that describes what an area could be
facilities and amenities that would make an area more vital
It takes account of heritage and land ownership and aims to make the subject area better: for communities
for tourists and for the working aspects of the Harbour
The Masterplan will be created by consultants retained by Transport for NSW Maritime and they will be briefed on all the aspects required by Maritime
so that everyone will own the Plan when it’s complete which we’re expecting in around 12 months
The Masterplan is only a document—a wish list—and will act as a future guide to development in the Harbour
All elements of the Masterplan will be subject to feasibility studies and funding availability
Some elements will be delivered by Transport for NSW
some will be delivered and or funded by Council
but the Masterplan represents a coordinated approach the future for the Harbour
We are at the very early pre-planning phase of the Masterplan
You can respond to our survey and have your say on what you’d like to see as part of the Masterplan
Community feedback is so important to a Masterplan created by and for the various communities that use the Harbour
To take the survey, click here
Please submit your response by 31 May 2025
This won’t be your last chance to provide input into this project
but we want to hear from as many people as possible
so we can write the initial brief to the consultants that incorporates as many of your ideas as we’re able
Your survey responses will help to inform a consultant brief written by Transport for NSW Maritime and Shoalhaven Council
This brief will then be put out to public tender and the submissions will be considered to choose a successful entity to create the Masterplan
a draft of which will be published for public comment in April/May next year
Once we’ve assembled and evaluated the public submissions
our goal is to publish the final Masterplan to the public by mid-2026
Please contact us if you’d like more information on this project

The Ulladulla Leisure Centre will remain open on Sundays between April and September following a decision by Council at Tuesday night’s meeting.
The proposal to close the heated pool on Sundays was in response to a resolution of Council in January 2024 to take action to improve financial sustainability
The operating hours of more than 20 facilities and services in the Shoalhaven were reduced as part of the ongoing work to address Council’s financial position.
Councillors took into consideration a petition signed by more than 706 residents
and the cost to keep the centre open.
The closure of Ulladulla Leisure Centre (excluding 24-7 access gym) on Sundays was due to begin after the Easter school holidays. The centre will now remain open on Sundays from 8am - 12pm. Opening hours can be found on the Swim Sport Fitness website.

Transport for NSW is planning to repair a section of one lane of the Southern Boat Ramp
For more background on this project, please visit Shoalhaven Council’s website on the work.
Transport for NSW is pleased to advise that repair works at the boat ramp have been completed. Both the Eastern and Western ramps are now fully open and operational.
The repairs have addressed the structural issues previously identified on ramp and included improvements to the pontoon facilities.
We thank the community for their patience during these essential repairs.
On Wednesday 18 December 2024, both sides of the boat ramp will be closed from 3pm until 5pm. This is to facilitate final work on the ramp. During this time, you will need to use the Northern Boat Ramp. We apologise for any inconvenience.
A contractor has evaluated the feasibility of completing the work on the Eastern boat lane before Christmas 2024. Once the Minor Works Review of Environmental Factors has been determined (expected around 6 December) the contract will be executed, and work is expected to begin in the week beginning 9 December. We expect the work will take 2 weeks, weather permitting.
A partial collapse of the eastern ramp was identified during a Council inspection. This collapse was located towards the end of the ramp and impacted approximately ¾ of the ramp width with a drop-off of up to 0.5m. Due to the severity and location of this hazard, the eastern boat ramp was closed to prevent further damage to public property and protect the safety of ramp users. This side of the ramp remains closed.
The western ramp was also inspected and presented with a 0.4m wide by 2m long section that had dropped a maximum of 0.1m. The damaged section is located on the outer edge of the ramp. Due to the location and nature of this defect, it was assessed as appropriate to keep this ramp open with existing ramp hazard signage in place.

the Nationals have been unable to claw back the rural NSW electorate from a party defector
an independent who quit the Nationals in late 2022 over the party's opposition to an Indigenous voice to parliament
The Nationals otherwise stayed the course in Saturday's federal election despite the Liberal Party's disastrous result
Mr Gee held 56 per cent of the vote on a two-candidate preferred basis on Monday morning
"It was a real David and Goliath battle in many ways," Mr Gee told AAP on Monday

(Dominic Giannini/AAP PHOTOS)"We were heavily outspent ..
and we were heavily outgunned in terms of advertising and personnel on the ground
it was the community connection which really helped me to get through right across the region."
Mr Gee was particularly popular among voters in villages that were ravaged by floods in late 2022
having established an inquiry into the insurance industry and actively helped in recovery efforts
Some voters said they felt sidelined by the National Party
Sam Farraway was hoping to win Calare back for the Nationals
(Stephanie Gardiner/AAP PHOTOS)But across Australia
country communities largely remained loyal to the Nationals
The party managed to hold onto electorates that were in some doubt
which is so far retained by Labor on a knife-edge
Rural voters cast their ballots influenced by local issues and traditional loyalties
Charles Sturt University political scientist Dominic O'Sullivan said
"In voters' minds the Nationals have something of a monopoly on that parochialism," Professor O'Sullivan told AAP
David Littleproud said the NSW rural seat of Calare was key to a coalition election victory

Labor did a better job than the coalition of recognising the importance of free trade
migrant workers and rural healthcare during the election campaign
"There's probably more chance of being able to see a doctor or a nurse in the regions than there might have been under the policies that the coalition was proposing."
The National Farmers' Federation has implored the government to fix country roads

(Julian Smith/AAP PHOTOS)Mr McWilliams did not detail in court the reason why prosecutors dropped the murder charge
Justice Jane Dixon confirmed Mr Crupi was not in custody on any other matters so she allowed him to the leave the dock for the rest of the brief hearing
Mr Crupi hugged his lawyers outside the courtroom but declined to comment
He was first charged in 2018 with Mr Acquaro's murder and was committed to stand trial in the Victorian Supreme Court the following year
But the case was repeatedly delayed due to a legal fight over confidential material
Victoria Police sought to withhold more than 600 pages of documents from Mr Crupi's lawyers
arguing it could identify a police informant known as Informer Z
A Supreme Court judge ruled against the police in 2018
saying the documents could substantially assist Mr Crupi in his defence
always denied shooting Joseph Acquaro dead
(James Ross/AAP PHOTOS)The police commissioner then appealed the decision to the High Court
with three justices overturning the judge's original ruling in September 2024
The case was sent back to the Supreme Court but no new trial date was listed
always denied the allegation he shot dead Mr Acquaro
Police had alleged Mr Crupi carried out the murder following a dispute over payment for tiling work he carried out at Mr Acquaro's gelato store
But Mr Crupi claimed Mr Acquaro was an informer and it was reasonably possible he was killed by someone who had learnt of his discussions with police
Mr Acquaro had represented prominent gangland figures during his time as a lawyer and he had strong ties with Melbourne's Calabrian community
it was revealed he had shared information about at least one of his clients to police although he was never formally registered as an informer
and this year's event promises to once again deliver something special

after spending a week on the sidelines because of his court-imposed curfew
It was his first match since being sentenced last month for assaulting a man on December 30 last year
Balta was also targeted during a win over Gold Coast - his only other appearance this season after serving a four-match suspension related to the assault - three days before he was sentenced
"Every supporter group can do what they want
but what we can do is put our arms around him and support him," Yze said after Sunday's match
"We've just got to make sure that doesn't tip over the edge and create any anxiety and pressure for him
"We've got to support him as best we can throughout the week and he knows how much we love him
every supporter group can do what they want

"He was trying his best to get our ball movement going from our back half
Yze also backed Tim Taranto despite the experienced midfielder gifting Hawthorn a goal by shoving James Sicily over and giving away a 50-metre penalty
Sicily had thrown Maurice Rioli to the ground after catching the Tiger holding the ball
Most players on the ground became involved in the ensuing melee
"Sicily's a fiery character and he got into one of our younger players

he might have overstepped it but I'd rather him do that than not go in there at all."

Stringer started as a sub for the first time and kicked three goals as the Giants went down by 14 points at the SCG
Kingsley said he had started Stringer on the bench in a bid to help the former Essendon spearhead increase his fitness
Stringer had been kept goalless in last round's defeat to the Western Bulldogs after playing with sickness
He had been dogged by illness in the pre-season
missing two simulation matches before a hamstring strain forced him out of the first two home-and-away rounds
"Ever since he got quite crook a week and a half before the opening round
(his preparation) has just been a bit patchy," Kingsley said
"He got crook again last week and played crook (against the Bulldogs) and so I made an error of judgment there
"We need to get some work into him to get him near his best
"If that means he misses a week and we use that extra week to train him and get some work into him
Stringer replaced Toby Bedford after the star tagger was caught high by Sydney defender Lewis Melican
Melican will face scrutiny after Bedford was forced out of the game with blurred vision
Kingsley said Bedford did not suffer a concussion
which was obviously quite disappointing for us," Kingsley said
"He'd started on (Isaac) Heeney and didn't start particularly well
but he'd shifted to (Chad) Warner after probably five minutes of that quarter and was doing a really good job
"I don't think Warner had touched the ball and maybe had one for the remainder of the quarter - no doubt it was certainly a little bit crippling for us

Ulladulla Public and High schools are set for a significant infrastructure upgrade.
Plans have been unveiled for significant upgrades on the way for Ulladulla Public School and Ulladulla High School as the Minns Labor Government gets on with the job of rebuilding public education after a decade of neglect by the Liberals and Nationals left schools in growing regional areas over capacity.
The upgrades are a Labor election commitment, ensuring Ulladulla families have access to a world-class public education in modern, fit-for-purpose facilities.
The upgrade to Ulladulla Public School will include 11 new permanent classrooms in a new two-storey building, upgraded student amenities and improved accessibility. The upgrade will make way for the removal of demountables which currently house half of the school’s classrooms.
The Ulladulla High School upgrade will include 11 new permanent classrooms replacing those currently in demountables, plus refurbishment of existing classrooms to ensure all students are learning in world-class facilities.
The Ulladulla schools are part of a suite of public schools across the South Coast that will benefit from works now in the pipeline, with major upgrades also slated for Milton Public School and Vincentia High School.
Vincentia High School will receive a new two-storey building with 15 permanent classrooms, including three support classrooms, replacing 15 long-term demountables.
A Review of Environmental Factors (REF) has been undertaken for each project and detailed plans are now on exhibition for community feedback via the NSW Planning Portal for:
Plans for Milton Public School, expected to go on exhibition from next month, include a brand new building with 15 new permanent classrooms to replace those currently in demountables.
These upgrades form part of the Minns Labor Government’s record $8.9 billion investment in public education infrastructure, which includes $1.4 billion for new and upgraded school across regional NSW.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car said:
“These upgrades are part of the Minns Labor Government’s work to rebuild public education in NSW, ensuring every child no matter where they live has access to a world-class public school with high quality, fit-for-purpose classrooms.
“For too long under the former Liberal and Nationals government, communities like Ulladulla were neglected, with a growing number of students left in ageing demountables that should never have been a long-term fix.
“We know how important these major improvements are for regional communities, and we’re getting on with the job of delivering them.”
“This is a huge win for our community. These projects will give our students and teachers the resources they need to thrive.
“Improving educational outcomes for regional students is critical — and this investment shows our commitment to making that a reality.
“I made these upgrades a priority during my 2023 election campaign because I believe every child, no matter where they live, deserves access to quality public education. It’s the backbone of opportunity and the key to our region’s future.”
Director, Educational Leadership for the South Coast, Gregory McDonald said:
“This is a really exciting time for the South Coast, and it’s tremendous to see the plans for these upgrades underway.
“New permanent classrooms and refurbished facilities will make a significant impact on the teaching and learning experience of students and staff across these three excellent schools. We are all looking forward to seeing this project develop.”

But with his ankle injury continuing to drag on and no end in sight

Eagles coach Andrew McQualter is optimistic about Yeo's return this campaign
(Steven Markham/AAP PHOTOS)West Coast coach Andrew McQualter is still optimistic Yeo will be able to return for the latter part of this season
but no definitive timeline has been set just yet
"Yeo is going to have some surgery just to remove some hardware from his ankle," McQualter said after Saturday night's 16.12 (108) to 11.10 (76) loss to Melbourne
"He'll have a couple of weeks off legs and then build and we're really confident Yeo is going to play a fair chunk of football towards the end of the season
"He'll have a few weeks to let the wound heal
"He was obviously having challenges to progress his rehab prior to this
"So I think at least he's got an answer now of what needs to happen for the next steps."
Both Harley Reid and Tim Kelly are struggling for form without Yeo there
and the Eagles sit in last spot with an 0-8 record
Their clearance numbers against Melbourne were simply alarming
with the Demons winning that stat a whopping 49-26 on the back of Max Gawn's dominance in the ruck
West Coast are hot favourites to win the wooden spoon
but they'll be hoping to ease the pressure with victory over fellow strugglers Richmond at the MCG next Sunday
"I've absolutely got an optimism," McQualter said of his future hopes for West Coast
"I've got no doubt our game's improved in the last three weeks
We just haven't been able to put it all together yet
"But I think I've been really open about it
"But we're in a rush to get better really quickly
and I'm confident our players are heavily invested."

Co-captain Oscar Allen is set for another game in defence for the Eagles
(Steven Markham/AAP PHOTOS)It means co-captain Oscar Allen is almost certain to play in defence again for a third-straight game
"I thought he was pretty good against the Demons
really good behind the ball," McQualter said of the key forward
and had to play a bigger role when Gov went off
it looks pretty likely that Oscar will stay back."
When I woke up, my world had completely changed.
It's the kind of town where you know everyone around.
I would layer on clothes, get a takeaway hot chocolate with my best friend, and come home to my grandma's delicious food.
In the weeks leading up to February 24, 2022, everyone was talking about the military situation in my country.
But no one I knew seemed too worried. I wasn't either.
It was five in the morning when I woke up to the sound of thunder outside.
I heard my dad tell my mum, "Stop fussing and start packing up".
A booming noise came through the window and I realised it wasn't thunder.
Bombs were going off. I never knew how close.
We stayed at home for about a month before the unsafe conditions forced me, my mother, sister and aunt to leave.
The rules meant my father had to stay. He looks after my grandmother, who has diabetes.
I said my goodbyes, thinking we would be back in a few weeks and things would return to normal.
We spent the first 24 hours on a train crossing Ukraine.
The landscape was now a country visibly at war.
Next, a bus to the border with Poland. We spent six hours waiting in line, battling fear and exhaustion.
We then went to Warsaw, where there were hotels, host families and many people organising visas. We all did a lot of waiting, hoping and worrying about those left behind and the journey ahead.
My mum chose Australia because her sister had migrated here years ago.
Here we have peace and safety but everything has its difficulties.
English is my third language so starting a new life, making friends, studying and working has been stressful.
There's also the constant ache for those not here — my father, grandmother, best friend and my dog, Elsa.
There are a lot of things I still miss about my small town in Ukraine.
But every day spent in Ulladulla, with lovely teachers and friends who support me, feels a little more like home.

Ken Wharfe says Harry's allegation of a "stitch-up" is "really offensive" (AP PHOTO)Harry now needs to show some "humility" if he wants to begin talks with his UK family
Harry has called for the Home Secretary to review the body that authorises protection for senior royals after he lost a Court of Appeal challenge last week over his security arrangements while in the UK
He told the BBC he "can't see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK"
But Wharfe says Harry "has really played the wrong card"
"I don't see how he can expect to get full protection when he arrived back in the UK
when he is no longer a member working the royal family
when he knows that the actual security package comes at the expense of the British taxpayer," he told the PA news agency
The police have seen it - so where's the problem?"
Harry failed in his appeal against the dismissal of his High Court claim against the Home Office
over the decision of the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures that he should receive a different degree of protection when in the UK
He told the BBC he can only come to the UK safely if he is invited
and King Charles could help resolve the situation by "stepping aside and allowing the experts to do what is necessary"
that this is a good old-fashioned establishment stitch-up
Harry says the decision "is knowingly putting me and my family in harm's way"
Wharfe said: "With regards to the stitch-up
I think what he should be doing now is actually showing some humility
"If a reconciliation is part of what he wants
then this is hardly the way to go about reconciling the differences that exist within your family."

The Storm looked set for a Magic Round victory in regulation time
their fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen appeared to have sealed the win with a 75th-minute field goal in his 100th NRL game

a lift in the personal performance of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese
and a woeful campaign by Opposition Leader Peter Dutton have seen Labor re-elected for a second term
that the distress and dysfunction evident in the United States in the first 100 days of the Trump administration made voters reluctant to risk a version of that under the Trumpesque Dutton in Australia
His luck was compounded by the Liberal team's shocking underperformance
ineffective advertising and an overall lack of focus blighted their campaign from the outset
Labor national secretary Paul Erickson and key party figures combined to ensure the government got the jump on the Coalition before the election was imminent
This included getting Albanese onto the hustings early in the new year
making policy announcements that demonstrated a commitment to build Australia's future
Albanese himself shook off the torpor evident since the failed Voice referendum campaign and presented a more energetic and congenial face to Australians than the awkward and floundering Dutton
The Coalition's election postmortem is likely to hinge on the mystery of why
given the scores of interest rate rises since the previous election and misery experienced by so many Australians as a result
it did not simply hammer the cost of living as its return ticket to power
It should also dwell on the lesson that a leader and policies that please local oligarchs and right-wing media echo chambers make winning the centre ground needed for election victory in Australia hard
That one-third of Australians gave an independent or minor party candidate their first preference vote should be the focus of serious contemplation by the major parties
The crossbench will remain sizeable in the 150-member House of Representatives
though without the balance of power eagerly sought by the teal and orange independents
The Senate will continue to be a challenge for the government to get its bills through
One clear message is that voters aren't impressed by the leaders the major parties are offering
he remained in net negative approval territory
Albanese and Dutton had -10 per cent and -27 per cent net approval ratings
Both leaders were a drag on their party's vote
but emphatic two party-preferred vote signals Australians want it in office but expect more than tinkering around the edges
The Albanese government will be expected to come up with structural solutions that meet contemporary Australians' real needs in this second term
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese greets Labor supporters after his thumping election win
Picture Getty ImagesWith his re-election as prime minister
Albanese can be confident and secure in his governing style
giving talented frontbenchers more scope to develop the deeper policy solutions Australians seek
That increased security will also enable him to drop the petty persecution of rivals that gives voters an insight into the lesser side of the sunny personality he publicly presents
Whether he does either of those things will remain to be seen
Labor MPs will also have to play their role properly in this term of government
Slavish quiescence to an all-powerful prime minister produces paltry results
Caucus needs to get elbows up with the re-elected Albanese and make sure he doesn't clock off between elections like he appeared to at times last time around

Clarkson figured prominently in the pre-match ceremony
back in brown-and-gold for the day after being estranged from the club since his 2021 exit
The 57-year-old joined retired greats Luke Hodge and Jordan Lewis
to present the spoils of last decade's three-peat when the Hawks' 13 premiership cups were paraded for the crowd

(Morgan Hancock/AAP PHOTOS)Hawks coach Sam Mitchell
who took the reins from Clarkson in a messy handover
admitted it had been daunting to have so many greats around the club during the build-up
"He's a four-time premiership coach of the club and hasn't been around for a while
so it's great that he was able to go out and spend some time with the guys that he coached from Hawthorn," Mitchell said
"Then on the other side he's coaching an opposition team
so there's always going to be some complexities around that side of things."
Sunday's scrappy win won't be remembered as fondly as any of those grand final triumphs
but was another box ticked on the path to a possible 14th flag
The Hawks are 6-2 ahead of a clash with Melbourne in round nine
while Richmond (2-6) will look to bounce back against winless West Coast
Hawthorn's superior class and dominance at the contest meant they proved far too strong for the Tigers
pulling away after halftime to post their biggest win of the season to date
tempers flared in the second term when James Sicily caught Maurice Rioli holding the ball and threw the Tiger to the ground
Tim Taranto flew the flag for Rioli - gifting Sicily a 50-metre penalty and goal by shoving him over - while most players were involved in the ensuing melee
Sicily's goal helped Hawthorn to a 34-point lead before Richmond kicked their first major through Seth Campbell after more than 52 minutes of action
Gunston reached his milestone in the third quarter
snapping his second goal for the day as the margin grew to 49 by the final change
It blew out when Hawthorn finished full of running
kicking five goals to two in the last quarter
Noah Balta rose above recent off-field controversies to take this mark for the Tigers

five) were Richmond's busiest on a tough day
The Tigers were beaten 117-84 in contested possession and kicked their lowest score of the season
but it was just our polish (that let us down)," Richmond coach Adem Yze said
Tigers defender Noah Balta returned to the sound of boos from Hawthorn fans after a week on the sidelines because of his court-imposed curfew
It was Balta's first match since being sentenced last month for assaulting another man on December 30 last year
and he limped off in the final few minutes after appearing to roll his right ankle

This is the biggest moment in that 70-year history," Incat chairman and founder Bob Clifford said
which will sail under the name China Zorrilla - a Uruguayan actress - was "one of the most significant export achievements in Australian history"
it will feature the largest retail shopping space on any ferry
It carries a 40-megawatt energy storage system and will charge via ports on each side of the River Pate

Photo: James Gourley/AAP PHOTOSTest halfback Tate McDermott believes the appointment of his Queensland coach Les Kiss to the Wallabies' top job will help keep players in Australia
All articles from our websiteThe digital version of Today's PaperBreaking news alerts direct to your inboxAll articles from the other regional websites in your areaContinueKiss was this week announced as the successor to current Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt
set to take over in mid-2026 following next year's Super Rugby Pacific season after he sees out the remainder of his contract with the Reds
McDermott said the appointment of the popular Kiss would be an attraction for players to remain in Australia rather than take their career off-shore
Playmaker Noah Lolesio recently admitted the uncertainty over the next Wallabies coach had been part of his decision to play in Japan
"The boys absolutely love playing under him (Kiss) and I think it's a great move from Rugby Australia so I'm really excited to see how it all pans out," McDermott said from Suva ahead of the Reds' clash with Fijian Drua
Is Reds coach Les Kiss is a bit of a "larrikin"
know and understand who's going to be in that role so 100 per cent I think it provides great clarity and
I think it's also an attraction because of how good Les is as a coach."
With New Zealander Schmidt vastly improving the Wallabies' stocks since taking over from Eddie Jones last year
McDermott felt the transition between coaches would be seamless
Kiss previously worked alongside Schmidt in the Ireland national side set-up
He said the pair were quite similar as coaches
although described his Queensland mentor as more of a "larrikin"
"They're actually pretty similar in the way they see the game
they've both got really good minds in and around how to attack teams
both great communicators to the players," McDermott said
"I'd say Joe's probably a little bit more serious
but I think the way that they see the game and the way they approach training
the way they approach games are I think very similar
"I think the transition will be seamless there and they've obviously worked with each other in the past and I'm sure they'll be communicating throughout the whole process
"It's great news to have a little bit of familiarity for the playing squad and also just Rugby Australia in general."
The Reds are currently fourth on the Super Rugby ladder while the Drua sit last but McDermott dismissed the disparity
predicting a tough encounter on Saturday in Suva where his team have lost their last two matches
Les Kiss (R) will take over from current Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt next year
(Dan Himbrechts/AAP PHOTOS)"You only have to look at our past results here
"The Fijian sides are unpredictable and incredibly strong in front of home fans and we're expecting exactly the same
and they're going to be dangerous so we're going to make sure we do the fundamentals well
but we're very wary of the threat that the Fijians pose and we need to respect that and try and nullify it as best as we can."

this time to claw out-of-sorts Penrith from the bottom of the ladder
A 2-6 start had thrust their 2025 campaign into freefall
but before a hostile Brisbane crowd at Magic Round
the Panthers resembled their four-time premiership-winning selves more closely than at any point this year
This was vintage Penrith: Uncompromisingly physical
defensively tight and steered to victory by superstar halfback Cleary
Nathan Cleary was at his tough and brilliant best
(Dave Hunt/AAP PHOTOS)Cleary put up the kick for Izack Tago to score the Panthers' first try and then nailed the 40/20 that put them in position for Luron Patea to burst past four defenders and nab their second
The superstar halfback then stepped inside on a shift to the left and danced past opposite man Adam Reynolds for the Panthers' third try
bringing back memories of the four-pointer that won the Panthers the 2023 grand final
The result was beyond doubt after a second-half double from winger Tom Jenkins
who was on the job as a disability support worker a matter of weeks ago
the Panthers did not have a single play-the-ball and were defending their line for most of that time
But Reynolds could not inspire the Broncos to points other than an equalising penalty goal in this period as the Panthers reprised their premiership-winning goal-line defence
The passage of defensive play ultimately laid the platform for victory; the Panthers scored on their first chance thereafter and never looked back
Brisbane skipper Reynolds sprayed two kicks out on the full
with Jenkins scoring directly after the second of those
Tom Jenkins scores one his two tries as his rapid NRL rise continues
(Dave Hunt/AAP PHOTOS)It was the latest example of the veteran playmaker wilting before the Penrith behemoth
to whom he lost the 2021 and 2023 grand finals
Reynolds did however move past Hazem El Masri to outright second on the all-time points-scoring leaderboard with his penalty goal
But his Broncos have now lost nine of their last 10 outings against the Panthers
with the only victory in that time coming by one point
A corked quadriceps muscle meant Broncos forward Xavier Willison could not finish the game
