Following a viral video showing tensions in the community
the City of Charles Sturt has thrown its support behind local fishers
Following weeks of rising tensions in the community
voting to keep the lines cast at Freshwater Lake Reserve – also known as Delphin Island – in West Lakes
The decision came off the back of a now-viral video online showing a heated confrontation between residents and thirteen year olds fishing for carp
showing locals hurling abuse at the youngsters
“There was an altercation with residents when some kids went fishing
It’s prompted people to reflect on their own behaviour and forced us to re-evaluate the rules we have in place for managing the lake,” said Asher Dezsery
While some residents pushed for fishing to be prohibited across the lake
the council opted for education over exclusion
they decided to leave current by-laws unchanged
including the rule that fishers must remain at least six metres from private property
they proposed a targeted education campaign aimed at promoting respectful behaviour and protecting the local wildlife that shares the lake
council voted on the matter and decided not to ban fishing,” said Asher
“They chose to let it continue in its current capacity and said they’d work with us to mitigate any further issues.”
We’ll be working with RecFish SA to develop education programs that help fishers understand how to operate mindfully in a shared environment – especially in regard to turtles
Freshwater Lake was originally designed as a recreational space
and many residents bought into the area for the lifestyle
including all the outdoor fun and recreational activities
“It’s really important for their mental health and general wellbeing that they can keep enjoying the South Australian lifestyle they signed up for… the outdoors
kayaking – it’s all part of it,” he explains
“There were two votes on the night,” said Paul
Education programs will include school outreach
with a focus on best practice and environmental stewardship
locals and fishers can enjoy dropping a line in the SA sunshine for years to come
“and we’ll do what we can to keep it that way.”

Adelaide SANFL recruit Ned Atkinson says following in his father’s footsteps played a key role in his decision to join the Club’s SANFL program in 2025
Atkinson’s father Brodie lined up in five AFL games for the Crows in 1999
and was a decorated player in the SANFL in the 1990’s
playing 222 games for Sturt and North Adelaide
The 18-year-old made the move to West Lakes in the off-season
having spent the past four seasons climbing the junior ranks at Sturt
Atkinson said the Crows always held a special place in his heart
“To be able to pull on the same colours as Dad did all those years ago
“Carrying on that legacy he created is something very important to me
that definitely played a big role in the decision
“I’ve been a Crows supporter my whole life
so to be here now in the position to pull on the guernsey
it’s a surreal feeling and I cannot wait to put my head down and get to work.”
Atkinson has already experienced a lot through his football journey
From representing his state and under-18 level
he said those experiences had helped mold him into a player ready to make the jump to League football
“I started my juniors out at Westies after being zoned there
before moving over to Sturt to follow in Dad’s footsteps again,” Atkinson said
“I also did a couple of years of school footy at Sacred Heart
I absolutely loved the footy and culture at Sacred Heart and I took a lot from that program
“I feel like I’ve learned a lot from my journey through juniors
which will put me in great stead as I embark on senior footy.”
Development will be at the forefront of Atkinson’s focus
as he acclimates to the demands of senior footy
He said being able to use the facilities and leaning on the high performance personnel at the Club would help him fast track his development
“It is really exciting (to be within the four walls of an AFL Club)
to be able to use all the facilities and get around the AFL program
I will be able to take lots out of it,” Atkinson said
“Knowing that there is an opportunity to play some league games next year is really motivating for me
“I’ll take every opportunity I can with this
to tap into the knowledge of the senior boys and get the most out of it
I understand just how privileged I am to be part of a program like this and the benefits it will have on my development moving forward.”

Sitting in the iconic C-47 plane at McDonald’s and biting into a Happy Meal brings back a lot of nostalgia for Adelaidians who grew up in the 80s and 90s
For many kids growing up around the western suburbs
the McDonald’s West Lakes plane wasn’t just a fast-food gimmick
Sitting in the iconic decommissioned Douglas C-47 plane
biting into a Happy Meal is a memory that still tugs at the heartstrings of locals who grew up in the 80s and 90s
Before it came to rest in the backyard of a local Maccas
the aircraft had had a long and storied past
it was initially used by the US Air Force during World War II
The plane was affectionately named ‘Irene’
which was painted on its nose in bright yellow embellishment
Irene was the wife’s name of one the plane’s crew chiefs from its early days
It was used as a ‘biscuit bomber’ which meant dropping supplies
and ammunition over Kokoda and Wau in the early 40s
it transitioned into a commercial aircraft
serving as a passenger and cargo plane for various operators
including Guinea Airways and Trans Australia Airlines (T.A.A.)
The aircraft has lived many lives; it was a first responder for evacuation in cyclone Tracy
and even survived a crash landing in a NSW golf course lake
Irene had reached a stage where it would likely be grounded
But a bold vision from then-owner at West Lakes McDonald’s meant that its legacy would live on a whole lot longer
the plane was set to be restored to its predominantly white exterior with red detailing seen in iconic T.A.A
it was updated with a stripped back silver and yellow design with the infamous golden arches logo
The West Lakes franchisee commenced the massive task
completing close to 1000 hours of restoration before even thinking about getting the plane to West Lakes
Then came the laborious task of transporting the aircraft by road and installing it on the McDonald’s property
the McDonald’s Party Plane was ready to open to the public
Kids’ Maccas parties were already a smash hit
so you can imagine the kind of reception West Lakes received when offering up a 20 metre plane as its dining area
the restaurant saw a direct correlation between Irene’s arrival and a massive 60% increase in revenue
with countless South Australians reminiscing about the surreal experience of childhood parties spent in a McDonald’s plane
recounts the days of the iconic Party Plane
“I remember it being there for pretty much my whole childhood
It was pretty unique – a bit of a novelty
The kids absolutely loved it!” he said
“I remember they’d taken out the plane seats and replaced them with square dining tables and booths like your classic McDonalds.”
“The actual restaurant was in a regular building
but they’d put this plane out the back
where you could take your food up to and eat
After quite a while the novelty must have worn off a bit
The plane remained a beloved fixture for almost two decades before being retired from the McDonald’s restaurant
also having a fully decked out DC-3 aeroplane as a part of its restaurant
with the future of the West Lakes McDonald’s Party Plane hanging in the balance
it looked as if the aircraft might be sold as scrap
farmer and pilot Jeff Morgan stumbled upon the historic plane at an auction held at the Edinburgh RAAF Base
with bold plans to give Irene yet another life
Morgan has been gradually restoring the plane back to its former wartime setup
the plane will able to taxi along the ground
showcasing a riveting piece of aeronautical history
its days in the sky look to be over for now

State Secretary of the Shop Distributive and Allied Employees Association (SDA), Josh Peake is concerned about management practices and worker conditions at a West Lakes fast food restaurant.
"We had a worker report to us...concerns over access to drinking water, but also being able to go to the toilet", Peake said to Rory McClaren.
"Should it be found this is correct, and that the employer broke the law, they should be pursued".

“We’ve seen $1.1 billion in high-quality regional retail assets recently change hands
including 50 per cent stakes in Westfield Tea Tree
with a further $1.3 billion in deals currently in play,” he added
Scentre’s latest deal is its second foray into funds management following the group’s June acquisition of a 50 per cent interest in Westfield Tea Tree

Mawson Lakes’ brand-new Aleenta Health Club has come in hot bringing with it a coffee shop that’s totally Insta-worthy
You can find Aleenta’s ‘The Nook’ on the ground floor of the Crowne Plaza at their latest workout spot in Mawson Lakes
Joining its other South Australian locations in Magill
Aleenta has made a name for itself as a boutique yoga
Aleenta opened the doors to its Mawson Lakes location late last year
and The Nook has been the perfect addition to the studio
“We really wanted to have a space where the community and our clients could come in before and after class to sit
we noticed a lot of our clients after classes going across the road to grab a coffee
so we wanted to have it all in the one place where clients can get to know each other and really create that community on site.”
Kylie is a total pilates pro starting Aleenta over ten years ago
“I’ve owned Endota spas for twenty years, but ten years ago when I had young kids at home and didn’t have as much time for myself and movement, I really wanted to create a space to workout that you loved going to
“There are lots of beautiful studios today
There were gyms but that was about it in Adelaide
It was really about creating a space for people to prioritise themself and their movement.”
The new beautiful Mawson Lakes studio is the latest addition to Kylie’s lineup
but they’re no strangers to the area
“We’ve actually been in Mawson Lakes for ten years
Most people don’t realise because we were in a space that was tucked away
We really wanted a space where we could have more street presence and people could find us.”
This move also provided the team with an opportunity to bring in the cafe
you’ll be able to grab all your favourite coffees
“The team are really focused on creating healthy refreshments more than food
has a background in catering and she’s absolutely amazing
“They’ll be using some supplements that we stock and are working to incorporate electrolyte drinks and protein drinks
that we as women need in our diet to support working out and moving.”

It’s the end of an era for one of West Lakes’ most iconic homes
Having stood the test of time for 46 years, 14 Cooba Way – known for its “old-Hollywood-glam” – is set to face the wrecking ball after selling at auction for $1.825m to a foreign developer
Selling agent Heyley Turner of Harris Real Estate said the home attracted plenty of interest from family buyers looking to renovate but
proved too good of a deal for developers to pass up on
“We had 13 registered bidders and it was a really fast
I couldn’t even keep up writing down the bids,” Ms Turner said
“Most of the interest came from developers but there were also a few families looking to buy it to renovate
“It’s a deceased estate and the family would have liked for it to go to another family … but they decided to take it to auction
even though we warned them it could sell to a developer
The property sold to an Indian developer as it has the potential for three new properties to be built on.”

The main bedroom is located in its own wing
the one-owner solid brick home sits on a valuable 990sqm corner allotment that fronts the fairways of the West Lakes Golf Club
It’s been described as a Hollywood-esque time warp with features seventies-style arches
The original kitchen with timber cabinetry
square-tiled mosaic benchtops and arched stove alcove is a stand out
which finds refuge in its own wing and includes an ensuite
external access and a dressing room that wouldn’t look out of place in an original Bond movie
There’s also a teen-pleasing rumpus with room for a snooker table and its very own bar
The main living room also features a bar and chandelier
The home is of enduring double brick construction
Ms Taylor said losing the home to developers would no doubt be felt by the community
“We had a lot of people come through the home
people who always wanted to know what it looked like inside … and they weren’t disappointed as the home feels like old Hollywood glam,” she said
“The ceilings had sparkles in the main living areas and the home also came with two bars
it would have been a really great entertainer … the best and biggest house in the street.”

Simon Rooney saying the West Lakes transaction “demonstrates the resurging investor interest in larger regional shopping centres”
“These centres have already rebased their income back to sustainable levels and are now positioned for growth,” he said
“Ahead of Scentre Group exercising its pre-emptive right
the Westfield West Lakes opportunity garnered strong domestic and offshore investor interest

The South Australian National Football League (SANFL) has successfully concluded negotiations for the handover of its lease at Thebarton Oval
the SANFL has cleared the pathway to establish a new Talent development facility adjacent to Football Park at West Lakes
announced that the project’s design and construction team will now move forward to finalise the drawings with the intention of commencing construction before the year’s end
The proposed development carries an estimated cost of $26 million and aims to foster local talent through robust infrastructure
anticipated for completion by the end of 2025
is set to feature an array of amenities designed to support the development of sport in the region

Lottery officials are urgently seeking the Mawson Lakes resident or visitor who purchased a $1 million winning Monday & Wednesday X Lotto ticket nearly a year ago
as the deadline to claim the prize is fast approaching
The mystery winner may be completely unaware that they've been sitting on the life-changing ticket for almost 12 months
The elusive player held one of the two division one winning entries in Monday & Wednesday X Lotto draw 4325 on Wednesday 27 September 2023
which means officials from The Lott have no way to contact the winner to break the life-changing news and must wait for them to come forward to claim their prize
lottery prizes must be collected within 12 months after the draw date
the unclaimed money is forfeited to the Lotteries Commission of South Australia
which has a prize claim process and associated administration costs
Monday & Wednesday X Lotto changed to a single lottery game called Weekday Windfall across Australia (excluding WA)
The division one winning entry was purchased at BP Mawson Lakes
The Lott spokesperson Khat McIntyre said time was ticking for the mystery player to come forward to claim and to claim their million-dollar prize and urged all players to check their tickets as soon as possible
“Time is running out for this mystery millionaire
In South Australia lottery winners have just one year from the draw date to claim their prize before it is forfeited to the Lotteries Commission of South Australia
which has a prize claim process and associated administration costs,” she said
“It’s likely our mystery winner has been going about their year as normal with no idea they became an overnight millionaire almost a year ago
“Can you imagine if you’ve been unknowingly holding the golden ticket worth $1 million for an entire year
“We’re urging all players who purchased a Monday & Wednesday X Lotto ticket from BP Mawson Lakes to check their tickets as soon as possible
“This is a great reminder to all players to register their tickets to a player card or online account
If this player had registered their ticket
they would have already been united with their million-dollar treasure
car glovebox or anywhere you may have an old ticket
because the winner could be you and you could be planning what to do with your prize
“If you discover you are holding the winning ticket
contact The Lott on 131 868 immediately to begin the process of claiming your prize.”
The winning numbers in Monday & Wednesday X Lotto draw 4325 on Wednesday 27 September 2023 were 15
while the supplementary numbers were 20 and 37
The official home of Australia’s lotteries, The Lott operates and markets Australia’s leading lottery games customers know and love creating everyday winners

one for each polluted management catchment
on the water quality monitoring undertaken by the Environment Agency to determine the baseline length of rivers and estuaries considered polluted by any of the Environment Act target substances from abandoned metal mines in 2022
The purpose of calculating this baseline was to enable measurement of the statutory abandoned metal mines target set out in Part 4 of the Environmental Targets (Water) (England) Regulations 2023
This regulation requires that the combined length of English rivers and estuaries polluted by the target substances from abandoned metal mines is
In the South West Lakes management catchment
the baseline length of polluted rivers for the abandoned metal mines water target is 12km
We will aim to identify the key sources of metal pollution in this management catchment by carrying out detailed monitoring investigations
You can find further background and context on the Environment Act abandoned metal mines water target in the national baseline report which should be read together with this report
The South West Lakes management catchment covers an area of approximately 913km2 and encompasses areas of the Lake District National Park. Go to South West Lakes Management Catchment on the Catchment Data Explorer for an interactive map showing the 3 operational catchments that make up the management catchment
The boundary of the management catchment and all 3 operational catchments are highlighted in Figure 1
There is some evidence of historical metal mining in the South West Lakes catchment in the area around Bootle and Black Coombe
there is little documented information about these mines and further investigation is required
The River Annas was included in this baseline monitoring study due to elevated metal concentrations being detected during routine sampling and the need for further investigation
Figure 1 shows the locations of mineral veins
closed mine waste facilities known to be causing serious environmental harm
and areas of abandoned mine wastes (mining spoil) in the South West Lakes management catchment
This information has been gathered from various sources including:
most of the historic mining activities in the South West Lakes management catchment were concentrated in the Irt-Mite-Esk-Annas operational catchment and Duddon operational catchment
The tables below list the catchments (surface water catchments) polluted by abandoned metal mines in the South West Lakes management catchment
These tables highlight where there are known point sources (mine adits or mine drainage levels) and diffuse sources (mine wastes or spoil heaps) within the catchment
The Environment Agency is continuing to investigate point and diffuse sources within the South West Lakes management catchment by undertaking a series of catchment characterisation studies
This will help us identify which sources need to be tackled to achieve the long-term statutory target
Table 1 summarises which type of pollution sources from abandoned metal mines have been identified within the catchments (surface water bodies) in the Irt-Mite-Esk-Annas operational catchment
Table 2 summarises which type of pollution sources from abandoned metal mines have been identified within the catchments (surface water bodies) in the Duddon operational catchment
The objective of the baseline monitoring was to establish the upstream and downstream extent of surface waters polluted by the target substances from abandoned metal mines
We selected the baseline monitoring sites by first completing a desk study to review previous water quality data
We then made initial site visits to collect samples and to assess the suitability of the site for continued sampling
at least twelve water quality samples were then collected from each monitoring site
Within the South West Lakes management catchment
water quality monitoring was undertaken in 2 out of the 3 operational catchments (Irt-Mite-Esk-Annas and Duddon) which are shown in Figure 1
We did not carry out monitoring in operational catchments where there is either no historical metal mining within the catchment or a combination of current and historical monitoring data shows that waterbodies within these catchments are not polluted by abandoned metal mines
5 monitoring sites were selected across the South West Lakes management catchment to determine the baseline length of rivers polluted by target substances from abandoned metal mines
The locations of these monitoring sites are shown in Figure 1
Water quality data collected between 1 January 2022 and 31 March 2024 have been used to determine and validate the baseline length of rivers and estuaries considered polluted in 2022
The length of rivers polluted by abandoned metal mines fluctuates in response to natural variation in rainfall and river flows
this length will not materially change unless remediation measures like mine water treatment schemes or diffuse interventions are installed to decrease inputs of metals
data collected after 31 December 2022 are considered to be representative of rivers
provided no new remediation measures had been constructed since 2022
No new remediation measures have been constructed in the South West Lakes management catchment since 2022
the target substances measured were cadmium
We did not undertake testing for arsenic in this management catchment since historical monitoring data and knowledge of the local geology across the catchment indicated that no rivers are polluted by arsenic in this management catchment
The baseline water quality data for all monitoring sites are available on the Environment Agency’s public water quality archive
For a river water quality sample to be considered polluted, concentrations of one or more of the target substances must exceed the relevant EQS set by government when assessed as an “annual average”. The EQS are set out in The Water Framework Directive (Standards and Classification) Directions (England and Wales) 2015
The EQS are derived using ecotoxicology data and set at a level that should prevent harmful environmental impacts
When the concentration of a substance in a water sample is higher than the EQS
adverse impacts on the aquatic ecosystem can occur
and the sample is considered to be polluted
we calculated a numeric “pollution level” by dividing the measured concentration of the target substances by the EQS
the monitoring site is considered polluted by that target substance
the greater the likelihood of harm to aquatic life
Our detailed monitoring across a range of flow conditions between January 2022 and March 2024 shows that in the South West Lakes management catchment
the baseline length of polluted rivers for the abandoned metal mines target is 12km
Figure 2 shows the rivers in the South West Lakes management catchment that are polluted by target substances from abandoned metal mines
Table 3 shows the river length (in km) that are polluted by each of the target substances within the South West Lakes management catchment
the most polluted rivers are impacted by more than one target substance
The River Annas is polluted by zinc and cadmium
Crookley Beck and Millergill Beck are also polluted by one or more of the target substances
Kinmont Beck is compliant and not polluted
Figure 3 shows the baseline polluted rivers in this operational catchment
It should be noted that due to close proximity of some of the sampling points to each other
some of the sampling point markers on this map (blue squares) may overlap
Whitecombe Beck is polluted by cadmium at the Beck Side Farm monitoring point
There are a number of historical mines located in the headwaters of Whitecombe Beck however
Figure 4 shows the baseline polluted rivers in this operational catchment

is eyeing off more opportunities for funds management in the malls sector after wrapping up two deals in quick succession
with chief executive Elliott Rusanow running his ruler over a $20 billion group of its prized assets
Scentre will consider opening up that ownership to joint-venture partners
I think there are more opportunities because we are in a unique time in terms of the ownership structure of shopping centres in Australia where there are more motivated sellers than historically,” chief Mr Rusanow said
“The high-yield nature of the Australian market relative to other markets around the world
and the amount of capital that’s sitting on the sidelines has created the opportunity for ourselves to be able to establish opportunities like Tea Tree and West Lakes.”
Scentre paired up with investment house Barrenjoey to create the $310 million Tea Tree Opportunity Trust
which purchased a 50 per cent share in Westfield Tea Tree Plaza
Scentre owns the other 50 per cent of the centre
it stepped up its funds management ambitions
taking control of a $167 million half-stake in Westfield West Lakes
In both cases Scentre will house the new mall interests in unlisted funds for private investors
Mr Rusanow said Scentre Group has an advantage against property syndicators in raising capital to buy shopping centres under this type of arrangement due to the group’s experience in managing malls
The opportunity to release capital through joint ventures also looms large for Mr Rusanow
Scentre has 12 high-profile assets worth $19 billion to $20 billion that it owns fully
Westfield Fountain Gate and Westfield Chatswood
The scope to diversify has been bolstered by Scentre’s strong 2024 first-half performance
with its funds from operations rising by 2 per cent to $568 million
Funds from operations is the property sector’s preferred measurement of earnings that factors out valuation swings
Driving Scentre’s solid earnings is its capacity to lock in rental growth from its tenants
even as consumer spending slows in some areas such as fashion and footwear
Average specialty rent escalations increased by 5.5 per cent during the half-year period
Sales increased by 2.4 per cent to $13.4 billion for the first six months of 2024
while leasing spreads – the difference in rents between old and new agreements – remained positive at 1.1 per cent
despite contracting on the rates achieved last year
“We are outperforming the wider retail spend [landscape] and the reason why that would be is because we’re giving people more reasons to come and spend their time with us
they tend to spend more money with us,” Mr Rusanow said
Scentre’s statutory net profit after tax jumped 170 per cent to $403.9 million
largely due to valuation writedowns being much smaller year-on-year
Scentre recorded $120 million in valuation declines for the first six months of 2024
compared to nearly $400 million during the same period last year
Distributions for the first half were 8.6¢ per security
Scentre reconfirmed guidance that its funds from operations would be in the range of 21.75 to 22.25 cents per security for 2024
representing 3 per cent to 5.4 per cent growth for the year
It also reconfirmed full-year distributions were on track to be 17.2¢ per security
The malls giant also announced a tender offer to buy back up to $US550 million ($816 million) of its 2026 subordinated notes
If the tender offer were to be fully taken up
about $US838 billion of that 2026 debt would remain
Scentre’s results were in line with consensus and showed the strongest retail real estate funds from operations growth in the sub-sector
Jarden analyst Lou Pirenc was also bullish in a client note
saying the first half performance was in line with expectations and the reconfirmation of guidance meant there was “upside risk to our and consensus expectations”

SOUTH WEST LAKES TRUST TROUT FISHERIES REPORT – APRIL 2025
Fishing: Kennick – Fishing improved as the month progressed, with the overall monthly average of 4.6 fish per rod improving to a weekly average of 5.3 by the end of the month.
Fish have been well spread out in the deeper water around the lake, with The Lawns, Clampitts, The Lodge Bank and Oak Tree Point fishing particularly well, with boat anglers also picking up fish in the mid channel.
Siblyback – The early season success at Siblyback continued throughout April, with anglers averaging 4.5 fish per rod, with fish feeding throughout the water column, and being caught on Floating, Intermediate, and Sinking lines, generally fishing with a slow or medium retrieve.
Crylla Bay, West Bank, Stocky Bay and Two Meadows produced the best sport, with fish taking a selection of nymphs (Montana, Damsel, Buzzer), lures (Blobs, Orange Snakes, Tadpoles and Scruffy Tigers), and even some dry patterns (Foam Hawthorn, Hopper and Grey Wulff) when midges were hatching. Nine teams of four took part in this year’s Snowbee Team Bank competition, with 126 fish landed in total.
The Kennick ‘A’ team (John Hern, Darren Penfold, Paul Wicks and Alex Venn) caught 24 fish, weighing in at 35lb 2oz to win the competition, while Andrew Fotheringham caught the best fish of the day – a fine rainbow of 3lb 12oz. Ron Wilday (from Liskeard) enjoyed an excellent day’s sport, catching nine rainbows to 1lb 8oz fishing in Crylla Bay.
Burrator – Weekly averages varied between 0.6 and 2.8 fish per angler, with the best sport to be had at Longstone, Back Bay, Sheepstor and Pig’s Trough. Fish tended to be in mid to deep water, when either a sinking line, or a floater with a long sink-tip and a slow retrieve proved to be the most successful tactic.
A few fish were taken from the surface using a Black Gnat, Bob’s Bits, CDC or Black Hopper, but the majority preferred either a sunk nymph (Pheasant Tail, Montana, Damsel or Hares Ear) or lure pattern (Tadpole, Orange Fab, Orange Zonker).
Stithians – The sport continued to improve as the month progressed and the conditions turned milder, with anglers averaging 3.5 fish per visit.
The fish tended to be nearer the surface, with floating lines and a sink-tip fished with a slow retrieve proved to be the most successful method. Goonlaze, Hollis Bank, Pub Bay and the deeper water by the dam produced the best sport.
Successful fly patterns included Cormorants, Orange and Black Blobs, Orange FAB, Damsel and Montana nymphs, as well as a few fish taking dry Black Gnats, Stithians Mayfly and Black Klinkhammers.
Colliford – Apart from one week, when a very strong easterly wind made the fishing difficult, anglers averaged 2.7 fish per rod, with fish being found in the deep water by the dam, as well as along the East bank, Pines, Menaridan Point and the West Arm.
Generally floating lines fished with a variety of retrieves (fast strips, followed by very slow) worked well. Good hatches of Midges and Olives, as well as the odd Hawthorn and Beetle on the water meant that fish were looking up to feed, and could be caught on dry Hawthorns, Black Gnats, Claret Hoppers, Daddies and Beetles. Sub-surface feeders took Hares Ears, Mini Tadpoles, Damsels, Zulus and Soldier Palmers.
Fernworthy – The fishing was slower to pick up on this high-exposed Dartmoor water, although weekly averages did pick up to 2.4 fish per visit toward the end of the month.
The South bank and water below the Fishing Hut proved to be the most productive, with the browns taking Bibio, Hares Ear, Zulu and Goldhead Damsel, as well as rising to Beetles, Klinkhammers and Hoppers on the stiller, warmer days, when midges were hatching.
Roadford – The good sport at Roadford continued throughout the month, with anglers averaging 3.5 browns per visit.
Floating or intermediate lines with a varied retrieve (Slow, Medium, and jerky fast strip) produced the best sport, with the best locations including South Wortha, Daveys Bank and Gaddacombe. Although the occasional fish would rise to a Green Hopper, most fish were taken on subsurface patterns (Black Tadpole, Mini Scruffy Tiger, Damsel and Olive Buzzer).
