The name of Wyndham’s Williams Landing ward is a source of confusion
according to its sitting councillor Larry Zhao
who raised a notice of motion to rename the ward’s name when council met on February 25
said the name does not accurately reflect the make up of the ward because a majority of residents live outside of the suburb of the same name
“Only around 20 per cent of the residents are actually from the suburb – 80 per cent of the residents live in Point Cook
“Residents have raised [to me] that the name of the ward is confusing.”
The motion asked the council to write to Local Government Minister Nick Staikos requesting that he review the Williams Landing ward name with a view to changing it to a name that is more representative of all of the residents in the ward
Cr Jennie Barrera said it was not an issue exclusive to Williams Landing
as her ward Heathdale covers the bulk of Werribee but is named after an estate
“There are also issues with some of the other wards,” Cr Barrera said
Saying that the issue was not “that big of a deal,” Cr Jasmine Hill said that her ward Featherbrook could cause similar confusion
“Featherbrook is only an estate but covers almost the entirety of Point Cook,” Cr Hill said
“It can be confusing for some of the wards.”
Cr Shannon McGuire said that the use of generic names could be a better alternative than naming wards after estates or suburbs
“It’s a little thing but it matters because it creates disengagement,” he said
The Greening the Pipeline initiative is transforming the Main Outfall Sewer reserve along the Federation Trail in Melbourne's west into a greener
cooler linear parkland and a more enjoyable community space
Wyndham City Council is leading the delivery of the project in partnership with Melbourne Water
Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation
the linear parkland will provide improved active transport links
The project will create a green corridor along the decommissioned sewer pipeline reserve that:

Video: Greening the pipeline - transcript
The Main Outfall Sewer was built in the 1890s to improve the health of Melbourne
it transferred most of Melbourne’s sewage for treatment in Werribee until 1993 when it was decommissioned
VicRoads (now Department of Transport and Planning) built the Federation Trail for cyclists and pedestrians along the Main Outfall Sewer pipeline reserve.
The sewer reserve is 40 metres wide and 27 kilometres long
It runs from the old pumping station in Spotswood (now part of Scienceworks Museum) to the Western Treatment Plant in Werribee
The 27 kilometre Greening the Pipeline project has been divided into nine zones
with most of the transformation occurring inside the City of Wyndham
and some in the Cities of Brimbank and Hobsons Bay
design and delivery for each of the different zones is being undertaken in a staged manner.
was built along 100 metres of the pipeline reserve at Williams Landing in 2016-2017
The park was used as a showcase to demonstrate the potential for creating a green linear parkland along the whole extent of the Federation Trail
and in taking a more holistic approach to water management
This pilot project was originally initiated in 2013 by Greening The West
City West Water (now Greater Western Water) and Melbourne Water
who were granted Victorian Government funding and identified the site
providing a healthy and enjoyable environment for social engagement and recreational activities in an area that was once divisive and under-utilised
As a demonstration pilot site for best-practice integrated water management
the park is also fitted with assets to capture
filter and reuse local stormwater to irrigate grass
more comfortable microclimate and new habitats for native species
Solar lights throughout the park save energy and keep the area active and safe
while a shared-use bicycle and pedestrian path links suburbs from Brooklyn to Werribee
improving liveability and providing physical and mental health benefits
Zone 5 in Truganina was divided into two sections; Zone 5 West
This zone – which runs between Forsyth Road and Skeleton Creek – includes a boulder amphitheatre and event lawn
Extensive revegetation and landscaping has been completed
with the planting of 22,000 trees and 21,500 plants
along with upgrades to the Federation Trail and installation of solar lighting
It also includes the ‘Narrarrang Ngarri’ sculpture by indigenous artist Kait James
which acknowledges the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nations’ care for Country
the 22 megalitre Arndell Park stormwater harvesting system was also completed
The stormwater harvesting and irrigation system will provide a sustainable water source to irrigate the new parkland
green open spaces and provide urban cooling to help address climate change challenges for communities in Melbourne’s west
which traverses the municipalities of Wyndham
has so far involved extensive planting to increase canopy cover along the Federation Trail.
Zone 5 East – between Forsyth Road and Sayers Road – will be delivered next
Designs have been finalised and the construction tender is scheduled to be released and awarded in mid- to late-2025
with construction anticipated to start in late 2025
This zone will include irrigated garden beds
a new play space and community events lawn
the Greening the Pipeline project will be delivered in stages over many years to come
All Greening the Pipeline project partners will continue to advocate for further funding to transform the remaining sections
Community consultation on the concept plans for Zone 4 was undertaken in 2023
This 1.8 kilometre section is expected to include an aqueduct lookout
a shared path connection to the Federation Trail between Heaths Road and Skeleton Creek
The Main Outfall Sewer consists of an open channel lined with brick or concrete
It is an important remnant of the original sewage transfer system that helped Melbourne develop into a modern metropolis; not only solving an urgent sanitation problem
but also allowing expansion into new areas
The sewer was a response to the sanitation crisis caused by Melbourne’s phenomenal growth in the 1880s
when untreated waste was dumped directly into waterways
This caused cholera and typhoid to run rife
The sewer was built by seven contractors employing 1300 workers
and at the time was the largest civil engineering project ever undertaken in Victoria
Its construction is all the more remarkable because despite being conceived during the 1880s boom
it was completed during the catastrophic 1890s depression
The steam-powered Spotswood Pumping Station used to push sewage back up to the surface to start its journey along the Main Outfall Sewer to the Werribee treatment plant. Our sewerage system still operates in a similar way
but the pumping stations are now located at Brooklyn and Hoppers Crossing
and the sewers are covered until they reach the Western Treatment Plant
Ownership of the Main Outfall Sewer reserve was transferred from Melbourne Water to the Crown
and the land then licensed to VicRoads to build a bike path
Melbourne Water retains ownership of the Main Outfall Sewer infrastructure
The reserve land was declared a road (named Federation Trail) by VicRoads
Melbourne Water initiated partnerships with Wyndham City Council
and Greening the West to develop the vision for the Greening the Pipeline initiative
A proof-of-concept park was collaboratively designed with the local community
It delivered a connecting green community space which incorporated recreational opportunities
tree planting and stormwater harvesting for irrigation

When “rhyme time” happens at the small public library in Williams Landing
so the librarians step outside to allow a few more children to squeeze in

Williams Landing’s “library lounge” is one of a handful of pint-sized libraries scattered around the City of Wyndham that provide basic services such as printing and scanning
and a modest collection of books to borrow
But these council-run facilities can’t hope to meet demand in a part of Melbourne that is rapidly expanding with young families
Even Wyndham’s five full-sized library branches are regularly overwhelmed by demand
170 people showed up for a recent Saturday rhyme time session
Wyndham Mayor Mia Shaw says the council has plans for two new libraries at a cost of $30 million each

public libraries were funded through a 50/50 partnership between the state and local councils,” Shaw says
the state’s contribution has declined to just 17 per cent
leaving councils to cover the remaining 83 per cent.”
Having a swim at a public pool is even more difficult than visiting a library in Wyndham: there are just two aquatic centres in a city with more than 300,000 residents
Ease of access to a library or a public pool is a measure of relative advantage in Melbourne
Residents of Melbourne’s established suburbs tend to be well served
but this is not the case on the city’s outskirts
In the worst case, in the City of Melton in the outer west
two libraries and one ageing aquatic centre serve a population of more than 200,000 people
Independent advisory body Infrastructure Victoria says the unequal access to public pools and libraries across greater Melbourne should be addressed urgently
It says state government funding is no longer adequate to build the regional-scale infrastructure the city’s fastest-growing communities need
Melbourne’s seven outer suburban growth area councils need a funding boost, in the range of $300 million to $500 million, for public libraries and aquatic centres, the agency says in its draft 30-year infrastructure strategy, released on Tuesday

“There is one library for every 62,000 residents in Melbourne’s growth areas,” the report states
there is one library for every 30,000 people
growth areas have one aquatic centre for every 82,000 residents
compared to every 58,000 people in established suburbs.”
The report suggests that cash-strapped councils should even consider co-locating pools and libraries with other facilities such as TAFEs
gymnasiums and meeting rooms to save money
Infrastructure Victoria’s finding that residents of Melbourne’s growth area councils are increasingly being short-changed by government is backed by analysis from Public Libraries Victoria showing a 20 per cent decline in total funding for libraries per person in the decade to 2023/24
federal state and local governments spent a combined $39.25 per person on Victorian libraries
This has been compounded by a change in the funding distribution formula in 2018
which stopped factoring in population growth
“Libraries in some of Victoria’s fastest-growing and most disadvantaged communities are now chronically underfunded,” Public Libraries Victoria says in its pre-budget submission to the Allan government
Public Libraries Victoria chief executive Angela Savage says libraries perform a diverse range of social functions today
“One of the things we hear people say time and time again is
“That’s where you go to find out what’s going on in your community
That’s where you go to practise your English conversation
It’s where you go to access reading materials for free
that will assist with citizenship tests and things like that
So it’s a really important resource for all communities
but particularly in those growth communities.”
a second – mostly council-funded – aquatic centre is due to open in 2028
The council also has long-term plans to build four more libraries
City of Melton Mayor Steve Abboushi says the council can’t fund community infrastructure on its own
adding that new public library and aquatic centres should be equally funded by the Australian and Victorian governments
local councils and the Victorian and Australian governments can co-invest in these positive outcomes for our community,” he says
City of Casey Mayor Stefan Koomen says the municipality – the state’s largest with close to 400,000 residents – has three public pools and five library branches
There are plans for three new library branches and one aquatic centre
the level of funding available through current Victorian government grants are far below what is needed to deliver facilities of this scale,” Koomen says

AUSTRALIA — ASX-listed developer Cedar Woods Properties has officially commenced construction on Hudson Hub
its sixth stand-alone office building in Williams Landing
marks a significant milestone for the project
which is set to redefine the suburban office landscape
will feature 74 strata offices and five retail suites
The building incorporates modern amenities tailored to meet the evolving needs of businesses and their employees
The project also emphasises sustainability through high-performance facades
Cedar Woods has appointed Hacer Group as the builder for Hudson Hub
continuing their long-standing relationship
Cedar Woods’ Victorian State Manager
expressed confidence in Hacer Group’s ability to deliver the project to the highest standard
citing their previous successful collaborations
Hudson Hub has already made a substantial impact on the local real estate market
with approximately 65 per cent of the suites sold
The project’s recent retail campaign achieved over $11,000 per square metre for one of its ground-floor retail suites
comparable to rates in Melbourne’s inner-city suburbs
James Bovell commented on the project’s success: “Hudson Hub represents our commitment to creating high-quality office spaces outside the CBD
The strong interest we’ve seen demonstrates that businesses value well-designed suburban locations.”
designated as a major activity and employment centre
offers excellent transport links and access to local amenities
These factors, combined with the area’s growing business clientele, make it an increasingly attractive destination for companies looking to establish a presence outside the CBD
Hudson Hub office suites are currently available for purchase
with project completion scheduled for Q1 2026
The strong pre-sales and market interest indicate a growing trend towards decentralised work locations and a preference for high-quality office spaces in suburban areas
As Melbourne’s western suburbs continue to develop
Hudson Hub stands as a testament to the changing landscape of commercial real estate and the increasing appeal of suburban office spaces

Melbourne-based community group Better Buses has revealed it is planning a protest blockage action at Williams Landing train station on Monday October 14 to draw attention to the lack of reliable
frequent and accessible buses and public transport in the area
Better Buses says community members in the Wyndham area have been forced to escalate the Better Buses campaign with the peak hour train station protest
“We have been actively working with multiple community stakeholders and resident groups to call for better bus coverage across Wyndham and the western suburbs for more than seven years now,” Point Cook Action Group member Senthill Sundaram says
we are still not seeing any leadership from Tim Pallas or any other local MPs when it comes to fixing our broken bus network.”
The community says that they now have no choice but to escalate their tactics by holding the protest during peak hour at one of the west’s busiest train stations
At least 20 community members are expected to attend and will be joined by members of the Sustainable Cities collective
as well as Western Metropolitan representative David Ettershank
“We 100 per cent stand with the community who have planned this action to create awareness and advocate for Better Buses for the West
We know that decisions about the future of mobility and equity in our city are being made now
and we want to be sure that the demands of the west are heard,” Better Buses campaign coordinator at Friends of the Earth Elyse Cunningham says
“The community is very frustrated with the government’s lack of action
This budget cycle is an opportunity for Labor to prove that they care about their constituents in the vibrant and diverse west
and that they truly uphold the values of equity
The group will be gathered by the stairs at the entry to Williams Landing train station
The action is expected to go for one hour until 9AM
The group says its aim is to not completely block people from accessing public transport but to draw attention to the issue
and that it expects the commuters passing by to be supportive of its cause

The Hellenic Club has sold a government-occupied building at 107 Overton Road
in a deal facilitated by real estate agency CBRE
home to Victoria’s Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority (ESTA)
According to CBRE senior director Scott Orchard
the sale achieved a sub-6.4 per cent yield
reflecting the building’s strong market appeal
“With 10-and-a-half years remaining on the original 15-year lease
and overall fundamentals made it highly attractive to Ascot
which had expressed interest during our previous sale campaign in 2018,” Orchard said
Originally developed by Cedar Woods as part of its Williams Landing Town Centre master plan
the 3126-square-metre office building was designed alongside major projects
including Target’s headquarters and the Williams Landing Shopping Centre
Hellenic Club spokesperson Ian Cameron said the building was a valuable asset but was sold due to a strategic shift and a need for equity in an upcoming Canberra development
Ascot Capital director Peter Agostino expressed satisfaction with the acquisition
“We’re delighted to add this high-quality property to our portfolio
which aligns with our investment strategy.”
Market sources revealed Ascot had previously tried to acquire the property in 2018 but missed out when Cedar Woods sold it to the Hellenic Club
Properties in some Melbourne suburbs are being snapped up in as little as two weeks
as elevated buyer demand see homes selling faster nationwide compared to last year
New data from PropTrack revealed that the national median days on market — the number of days a property is listed on realestate.com.au before it is sold — was 42 days for both houses and units in August 2024
houses were selling at a quicker rate compared to the national median at 36 days
while units are being sold at a similar rate of 43 days

Carrum Downs and Tecoma were sold the quickest among all Melbourne suburbs
with their median days on market were 14 days
more than twice as quick as a typical house in the capital
10 Arthur Court, Skye is on the market with a $850k-$900k price guide
The home has four bedrooms and three bathrooms
Homes in Skye are among some of the fastest selling in the city right now
Croydon North and Ringwood East had the shortest days on market in Melbourne
marking the popularity of these areas with buyers
Not only were homes snapped up rapidly in several Melbourne suburbs
but there were many that saw a significant annual decrease in the time taken to change hands as well
Seddon and Williams Landing were among these suburbs where houses sold a respective 25 days
23 days and 22 days faster than a year prior
2/96 McLeod Road, Carrum is in first-home buyers’ reach – with a $660k-$690k price guide
Parkville and Clifton Hill saw some of the largest falls in days on market in Melbourne over the past year
selling around four to five weeks faster compared to August 2023
Homes in many of these suburbs cost less or are comparable to what is typically seen in Melbourne
With housing affordability at a historical low
according to PropTrack’s recent Housing Affordability Report
it is no surprise that more affordable areas are in high demand
it is important to note that overall demand for housing is currently strong
Homes in Williams Landing like 120 Palmers Road, Williams Landing which is on the market right now
are seeing the largest fall in days on market
This is evident when looking at national home prices
which have risen for 20 consecutive months
With interest rates highly likely to fall by early next year
buyer confidence is expected to increase even further
competition for housing is likely to intensify
which will result in faster sales in sought-after suburbs

Police said charges follow an extensive investigation into an image circulating online which depicted a group of men performing the prohibited gesture
Detectives from Geelong Crime Investigation Unit retrieved CCTV footage from the Bell Park venue on Separation Street as part of their inquiries
All seven men have been charged on summons for public display or performance of Nazi symbols or gestures

A protest took place this morning 14th October at Williams Landing station
with local residents demanding significant improvements to the bus network across Melbourne’s rapidly expanding Western suburbs
the demonstration was part of the Better Buses campaign
a grassroots movement calling for the Victorian government to transform the existing bus network into a fast
The campaign seeks to replace the current system of long
convoluted routes with one that offers 10-minute service frequency all day
Melbourne’s Western suburbs are among the fastest-growing areas in Australia
with the City of Wyndham alone surpassing populations of major regional centres
the region suffers from some of the worst public transport infrastructure in the city
leaving residents frustrated by long waits and limited coverage
Some suburbs lack train stations and are only serviced by regional V/Line trains
such as Mount Atkinson (Melton) and Mambourin Estate (Werribee)
reliable transport also contributes to wider issues in these areas
Many new developments are built without essential amenities like supermarkets
making residents entirely dependent on cars for basic needs
This not only drives up their cost of living but also isolates those who do not drive
and those unable to afford vehicle expenses
Protesters emphasised that Melbourne’s Western suburbs
despite their significant population growth
are being left behind compared to other parts of the city
which have better access to public transport services
There are no tram routes in the outer West
the sparse bus network is seen as unreliable and inadequate for the growing population
“Residents in these areas are effectively trapped if they don’t have a car,” said one of the protest organisers
We need a better bus system that gives everyone the freedom to move
The Better Buses campaign is calling for a significant investment in the Western suburbs’ public transport infrastructure
including the introduction of electric buses that would run frequently
Organisers argue that such improvements would not only reduce residents’ reliance on cars but also lower emissions
and provide much-needed relief to the overstretched road network
The protesters have urged the Victorian government to prioritise the Western suburbs in its transport planning and act quickly to address the growing gap between the population and public transport services
“We’re not asking for luxury – just a basic
functioning bus system that works for the people of the West,” said another campaigner
“We need the government to listen and deliver real change before it’s too late.”
The Better Buses campaign continues to gain momentum
with growing support from local communities
and plans for further demonstrations if their demands are not met
Campaigners argue that Melbourne’s West is at a tipping point
residents will continue to face increased isolation and financial strain from car dependency

Australian home buyers face tough conditions
with affordability more important than ever
But does a conservative budget rule out houses
With migration increasing at pace and rental and housing affordability hitting their worst levels in at least 17 years, according to PropTrack data, there's been a push to build a swathe of new homes across Australia to meet the Government's 1.2 million Housing Accord Target
One way to swiftly create supply is by building medium- and high-density apartment developments across the major capital cities
But what are the options for budget-conscious buyers who still yearn for their own backyard
"There are some clear trends whereby purchasers of new house and land are targeting smaller houses
this is likely due to construction price escalations leading to buyers having to rationalise on size to fit their budget," explained PropTrack director of economic research
Affordable houses are a possibility in the current market
but the desirability of their location will depend on how much space you're willing to live with
Stockland Aura's Sunshine Coast community is in hot demand
with coastal home designs at a sub-$700,000 price point
Townhouses are a great solution for those on a budget who want to remain within city limits
but there are developers offering excellent options in outer-ring areas or new masterplanned communities with infrastructure such as childcare
Buyers of new builds can utilise both stamp duty and off-the-plan concessions
the FHOG is $30,000 when buying or building new
where houses priced between $600,001 and $750,000 can receive the first home buyer duty concession
The state also offers an off-the-plan duty concession
Here are some options for townhomes and house and land packages for those with a budget around $700,000
still within city fringes or in desirable regional locations
Metricon's St Leonards Seaside development has house and land options from $739,448 in this pretty coastal peninsula

In fact, the astronauts—who returned to Earth March 18 after an extended nine-month stay at the International Space Station—didn’t physically step off SpaceX Dragon capsule upon touchdown in Florida
they were wheeled off the spacecraft on stretchers
it’s actually standard NASA protocol for all returning space travelers as they typically can’t walk right away upon their return
“A lot of them don't want to be brought out on a stretcher,” former NASA senior scientist John DeWitt told Live Science
Earlier in the astronauts’ ISS stay—which was only meant to last eight days—Williams described the physical effects of living without gravity as she spoke to students at Needham High School in Massachusetts
“I've been up here long enough right now I've been trying to remember what it's like to walk,” she told the students in January, per CBS affiliate WBZ-TV
You can just close your eyes and float where you are right here.”
Williams and Wilmore’s June 2024 mission was extended due to various technical issues with the pair’s Boeing Starliner, leading NASA to send the shuttle back to Earth without its crew
While Williams described the extension as “a little bit of a shock,” the astronaut shared that she was still managing to stay close to her loved ones back home
“I talk to my mom practically every day,” she explained during the student Q&A
“Just check in with her and call her and see how she's doing
So it's just a little bit different relationship than we had potentially planned on for the last couple of months
For more on Suni Williams and Butch Willmore’s space journey
Sunita “Suni” Williams and Barry “Butch” Wilmore launched into space on Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft June 5, 2024, with plans to stay at the International Space Station for eight days. Shortly after their launch, the astronauts reported a “stable and isolated leak” in their propulsion-related plumbing
While the leak remained stable throughout their travel to the ISS
four more leaks emerged and five thrusters—devices used for acceleration—failed
with the understanding that their mission would likely last longer than eight days
NASA came forward with the debacle of the two astronauts stuck in space
the space organization was still trying to determine whether the Starliner would be fit for a return to space
and Boeing maintained at the time it should have been
we will take the actions necessary to configure Starliner for an uncrewed return.”
Meanwhile, former NASA official Scott Hubbard quelled public concern over Wilmore and Williams’ predicament, telling the Associated Press the astronauts—who have each been to space before on prior missions—are only “kind of stuck,” emphasizing that they have “plenty of supplies and work to do.”
After NASA confirmed that Williams and Wilmore would return to Earth on a SpaceX mission in February or March
rather than attempting to fix the Starliner
Wilmore’s wife Deanna Wilmore told WVLT in August of her family’s predicament
“You just sort of have to roll with it and expect the unexpected."
Williams’ husband Michael shared that he didn’t think his wife would be unsettled by spending more time in space
Just before celebrating six months in space
Williams and Wilmore shared insight into their Thanksgiving celebrations aboard the ISS
“We have a bunch of food that we’ve packed away that is Thanksgiving-ish,” Wiliams told NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt from the ISS on Nov
green beans and mushrooms and mashed potatoes.”
Williams also reiterated that she and Wilmore were doing just fine amid their extended stay in space
After the astronauts celebrated six months in space, NASA confirmed they would be staying even longer than previously thought. Although the organization had originally planned for the duo to return in February, delays in the SpaceX mission that would retrieve them led their stay to be extended to March or April, NASA said at the time
In February, President Donald Trump claimed in a Truth Social post that Williams and Wilmore had been “virtually abandoned” in space amid their eight-day-turned-eight-month journey. However, following the headline-making comment, the astronauts pushed back on the president’s claim
“We don't feel abandoned,” Wilmore insisted to CNN’s Anderson Cooper in a Feb
Williams interjected during the interview that the pair were “doing pretty darn good
we have great crew members up here,” she continued
it was a little bit longer stay than we had expected
but both of us have trained to live and work on the International Space Station and I think we've made the most of it.”
Wilmore and Williams also confirmed they’d be returning to Earth when SpaceX launches its Dragon capsule March 12
rendezvous and dock," Wilmore explained
“We'll do a turnover for about a week and we will return on or about the 19th of March.”
Just days before her father was set to return
Wilmore’s daughter Daryn Wilmore spoke out on her father’s time in space—and how she felt about the delays in his return to Earth
“It’s a bit mentally exhausting,” she told the Daily Mail in a March 6 interview
And that's the reason why this has just kept getting delayed
There's just been issue after issue after issue.”
Daryn expressed that her father was “bummed,” but otherwise doing well on the ISS
After their extended nine-month stay in space
Wilmore and Williams safely returned to Earth on March 18
After splashing down off the coast of Florida
alongside fellow NASA crew member Nick Hague and Russian cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov
were wheeled off the space capsule on stretchers—standard protocol for returning space travelers as they typically can’t walk right away upon their return
“A lot of them don't want to be brought out on a stretcher,” former NASA senior scientist John DeWitt told Live Science
As for how the astronauts will spend their first few days back on Earth
Wilmore's daughter Daryn gave some insight
“He's going to spend the next few days going in [for] tests,” she said in a March 18 TikTok video
“Lots of medical stuff because they're still technically part of the experiment of human space flight
And just get re-acclimated to gravity and the routine back here on Earth
because it's been very different than these past 9 months.”
After the astronauts landed back on Earth following eight extra months in space
NASA addressed whether they'd get paid any overtime
"When NASA astronauts are aboard the International Space Station, they receive regular, 40-hour work-week salaries,” NASA told People in a statement
“They do not receive overtime or holiday/weekend pay.”
As for what a regular 40-hour work-week salary looks like for an astronaut
It clocks in at anywhere between $84,365 to $152,258
according to the federal government's GS-11 to GS-14 pay scale
daughter Daryn shared her reaction to finally being reunited with her dad
"I'm making him his favorite dessert, which is pecan pie,” the college student said in a TikTok
“I actually have a list that's all his favorite things and things that we used to do together to hopefully do them these next few days that he's here before I go back to school
or in the coming months that he's back.”

A five-bedroom “luxury” home in Melbourne’s west notched a stellar sale at auction midweek
The stately 55sq m house at 3 Wingfield Parkway, Williams Landing
sold under the hammer on Tuesday for $1.4295m — a whopping $204,500 above its $1.225m reserve
It had originally been listed with a $1.15m-$1.25m price guide
which Ray White Werribee auctioneer Petar Krnjeta described as “crazy”

“It was the third highest result in that pocket,” Mr Krnjeta said
“And it was surprising to see how many people were upsizing in the location
He said the buyers were a local family of four who lived two streets away
“And they only saw it at 1pm that day,” the agent added
Mr Krnjeta said the two-storey property’s size and modern finishes were its biggest attraction
and had all the fixtures and fittings of a modern home: the rooms are oversized
there’s multiple living zones and I think that grabbed people’s attention,” he said
The large backyard has an alfresco area too
Mr Krnjeta added that his vendors had had a change of heart about where to live during the Covid-19 lockdown period
deciding to sell their house after buying a penthouse apartment in Docklands
He said Williams Landing was popular with “blue collar” buyers but was still affordable
with quality homes available for under $1m
The opulent Wingfield Parkway property included an upstairs main bedroom suite with two walk-in wardrobes and an ensuite
a spacious kitchen with a butler’s kitchen and a low-maintenance backyard and alfresco area

Cedar Woods this week kicked off construction of its fifth standalone office at Williams Landing
the Hames Sharley penned project will rise seven storeys with 77 suites between 45-96 square metres
Third level units offer outdoor terraces of 8-52 sqm
Most spaces – 98 per cent – were sold down as of January
Williams Landing is replacing 275 hectares of an ex-Laverton RAAF base
Cedar Woods acquired the land for the project for $10m in 1998
Boston Commons is due for completion in mid-2024; it is also designed with NBN infrastructure
It will be delivered by Hacer Group which has constructed the region’s five other commercial buildings including Target’s headquarters (2 Kendall St) and in Overton Rd
“Williams Landing is fast emerging as one of the leading destinations for suburban offices in Melbourne’s west,” Knight Frank’s Nick Bisset
Boston Commons has received strong interest from both local business owners and investors,” he added
Meanwhile, Cedar Woods has listed the Williams Landing Shopping Centre at 100 Overton Rd – the centrepiece of the estate’s 50ha town centre
which is expected to contain 200,000 sqm of office and retail space
The mall which is on offer covers about 10pc (5.5ha) of that
12 commercial suites and a childcare centre
it returns $4.1m per annum (story continues below)
The offering also includes a 2.39ha Priority Development zoned tract
When the group announced it would list the asset last November
“Williams Landing Shopping Centre represents a premium asset located in the heart of a thriving mixed-use town centre,” Cedar Woods chief operating officer
“[The centre] is well served by key rail and road links [the wider estate has 1.8 kilometres frontage to the main western rail line and this property is 500 metres from Williams Landing station] and is located in a region that has consistently been one of the fastest growing in the country,” he added
Cedar Woods has subdivided 2000 low density housing lots at Williams Landing
It has also completed two of four apartment buildings
Stonebridge Property Group’s Justin Dowers and Kevin Tong have the listing
“Rarely do we see centres 20km from the Melbourne CBD with over two hectares of Priority Development Zone land adjoining,” Mr Dowers said
“When you’re at Williams Landing Shopping Centre
you can see multiple five-to-six level buildings opposite,” according to the executive
“This gives you confidence of what Williams Landing Shopping Centre can be in the future

After four up-and-down years in the league
Patrick Williams truly is a beauty in the eye of the beholder prospect
4 pick as one of the youngest players in the 2020 class
That necessitated some patience with his development
and he has shown flashes of a very valuable player
he's either been hurt or disappeared on the floor
He's one of the best second draft prospects available this summer
The Bulls will have his restricted free agency rights
but will they be willing to pony up if another team wants to throw a huge offer at Williams given their tight cap sheet and refusal to pay into the luxury tax next season
Here's a look at the Williams situation from all angles
MORE: Thunder clear winners in Josh Giddey-Alex Caruso swap
There are two things that a player needs in order to have a high valuation in a salary model — a lot of minutes and good impact on the court
The most publicly respected models are all in unison on his mediocre play
Williams is expecting to be paid like a good starter
but he looks more like one of the first guys off the bench
Williams gave the Bulls about $5 million worth of production last year based on my salary model
If we can assume that he will buck the trend and play a normal amount of minutes
then he'd be worth a little less than $10 million
That $10 million valuation isn't quite fair, though. Even four years into the league, Williams is still only 22 years old. He will likely improve. How much is the question. He was reportedly seeking over $20 million per year last summer on an extension with the team, according to ESPN's Zach Lowe
He would have to more than double his impact on the floor to justify that figure
He would be an extreme outlier for that to happen
Even giving Williams an optimistic improvement of 25 percent better than what he contributed last season and good health
Williams hasn't been a great NBA player thus far
but the PWill optimists have a good case for why he will become one
Williams was drafted largely because of his physical tools
At 6-7 and 215 pounds with a 6-11 wingspan
he has the size and strength to guard the apex wing scorers in the league
He has been pretty good on that end of the floor
although his processing speed lags as a help defender
maybe even getting some All-Defensive team buzz over the course of his new deal in a best-case scenario
then he easily becomes a $20 million player
Williams has started 175 of his 213 games for the Bulls and only cracked 20 or more points 10 times
He's broken past 30 points once — in a meaningless Game 82 of the 2021-22 regular season
he completely disappears on that end of the floor
Williams was drafted with some hope of on-ball creation after playing some point guard in high school
His ballhandling is shaky to put it kindly
He regularly will dribble it off his leg on drives to the rim
He can make the occasional spectacular pass off the dribble or thunderous dunk
but there will be weeks between those highlight plays where he does nothing of consequence
The one area where Williams is really good is as a 3-point shooter
He's hit 41.0 percent of his attempts over his career
but he only took a career-high 3.4 attempts per game last season
He will regularly pass out of open looks or hesitate
A plus defender with size who can hit wide-open 3s is still a very valuable player in the NBA
and it's easy to see why some team is going to talk themselves into giving Williams a lot of money
MORE: The Bulls broke up with their diehard fans long ago
I've watched over 90 percent of Williams' games since he came into the NBA
and I still do not have a good feel of the type of player he will become
There is a massive difference in potential outcomes for him
Williams optimists will point to players like Mikal Bridges
Anunoby and Jaden McDaniels as examples of what he could one day become
Here's how he compares to those players in DARKO:
Darko.appA more medium-end outcome would be wings like Jerami Grant
Darko.appWilliams' low-end comp if his development stalls are players like Saddiq Bey
De'Andre Hunter or Marvin Williams — good fringe starters or first guys off the bench
Darko.appSo should the Bulls gamble potentially $100 million over the next four years on one of these outcomes
then I would try to sign and trade Williams rather than place a risky bet on his development
He seems like a great third contract candidate and a very bad second contract one
He will likely underperform at least the first few years of his new deal
then he will be up for an even bigger deal and have competition as an unrestricted free agent
Rather than sinking more time and energy into a player who has not been developing in their system
I would see if he can thrive in a different environment
If he does end up becoming a great wing in his mid-20s
then the Bulls (or anyone else) can make a good offer down the road
MORE: LeBron influencing JJ Redick hire, Bronny draft pick would be a mistake
Several of the rebuilding teams around the league have significant cap space to spend
and there aren't many young players to spend it on
Tyrese Maxey and Immanuel Quickley are the only better options
and they are locks to re-sign with their own teams
Teams who want younger players will have to pick between Williams
Williams stands out as the one guy with a lot of upside
The Pistons have the most money to spend this summer. They're projected by Spotrac to have $64 million available
Spurs and Hornets also have enough to offer Williams over $20 million annually
In addition to the Thunder and Hornets, the Raptors have been mentioned as a possible landing spot for Williams in restricted free agency, per Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports. Other teams could enter the sweepstakes, but they would have to make moves to clear space or engage the Bulls in a sign-and-trade.
Williams' role hasn't been great with the Bulls. Like Lauri Markkanen before him, he could be one of these players who needs a change of scenery to thrive.
