Upgrading or investigating future upgrades at the sites to improve safety
access and traffic flow were election commitments by the Malinauskas Labor Government
Each of these commitments contains a planning study or traffic investigation component
which will be informed by community feedback
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport will commence engagement activities from today
to allow community members to have their say on the planning studies and traffic investigations informing seven of the above projects
Community engagement for the Mawson Lakes Local Area Plan
including a community survey and face-to-face activities
The Malinauskas Government has also funded and partnered with the City of Playford to deliver our election commitment for a traffic management plan at Blake’s Crossing
The first round of consultation for this project is currently underway
with a survey aimed at understanding local residents’ traffic experiences open until Thursday 1 December
Community and stakeholder engagement is vital to the successful design and delivery of all these projects
which are all in varying stages of procurement and development
For more information about each project, or to access the surveys and register for project updates, please visit www.dit.sa.gov.au/northroadupgrades
We are now inviting community members to provide their valued input into these road infrastructure projects for the north of Adelaide
This input will be vital to designing and delivering the best possible upgrades and outcomes for all road users
This community engagement is an important first step in delivering on these election commitments to improve safety
access and traffic flow at these locations
and will capture the experiences and ideas of those motorists and others in the community who actually use these roads
The planning studies will define the problems at each location
and either shape the designs for upgrades to which we’ve already committed
or identify improvement options to inform future investment decisions
residents in King made it clear they were frustrated about traffic congestion in the local area
and that they wanted to see action being taken to rectify the matter
We committed to making driving in the area safer
quicker and more convenient – and I am so pleased that we are delivering on that commitment

A fire destroys a townhouse and damages two other apartments at Wynn Vale in Adelaide's north-east. (Submitted: Hannah Grant)

Larissa Calanna, 23, her sister and her sister's partner were in the Wynn Vale townhouse when the fire broke out.
Ms Calanna's sister's partner suffered minor burns to his leg and was treated at the scene.
"I woke up to a fire in my sister's room I think it was caused by a candle; literally, we had no time to put it out because it just came up that quickly. We just ran outside," Ms Calanna said.
"I woke up to my sister freaking out, I opened my door, I kind of grabbed a blanket to go put it out, but her partner was just like 'don't worry about it, just get outside', so I grabbed my cat and went downstairs."
Ms Calanna said she was not able to grab any belongings on her way out, but was able alerted her neighbours to the fire.
"We went and knocked on their door and kind of checked all the other houses," she said.
In these situations you literally don't care about the valuables you just think about life and making sure everyone's okay.
"It's just the small sentimental things. I didn't put on shoes, you know, just all those sorts of things. My phone's in there and the keys to my car.
"In these situations you literally don't care about the valuables; you just think about life and making sure everyone's OK."
The fire was contained to the top floor of the Grosvenor Place townhouse and two other adjoining units were damaged by smoke.
Fire investigators confirmed the fire was caused by a lit candle that had been accidentally knocked over in one of the bedrooms.
MFS Commander Eero Haatainene said one firefighter received a minor burn that was described as a "blemish", and was treated on scene and returned to work.
Earlier, nearby resident Terry told 891 ABC Adelaide the fire was "pretty toxic" and there was smoke everywhere.

"It's not pretty that's for sure," he said.
"There's a young girl there, I put a blanket around her and she's sort of struggling a bit and her sister is even worse.
"But between the two of them they're not doing too badly, they're more concerned about their cat which they can't find at the moment."
"It's probably more smoke than sort of flame at this stage," he said.
"They think it probably started in one of the sister's bedrooms from the candle, but the smoke is very, very toxic.
"This unit is going to be pretty messed about, that's for sure."

Link copiedShareShare articleAn elderly woman was crushed to death as she tried to stop a car rolling down the steep driveway of her home after leaving the handbrake off.
The 81-year-old had got out of the car at her Wilkins Court home at Wynn Vale in Adelaide's north-east just after 9:30am.
The car's automatic gears were left in 'drive' instead of 'park'.
The vehicle rolled over the top of the woman and continued across the street, stopping as it lodged on rocks just in front of another house.
Superintendent Bob Fauser says the woman died at the scene and her husband witnessed the accident.
"As I understand it, the husband heard the car alarm activate. He's walked out. He's seen his wife behind the car and then seen her try to prevent the car from rolling down the hill," he said.
"Any loss of life is tragic but for the husband to witness it in this way is a terrible, terrible thing.
"Some people make split-second decisions that actually put their lives at risk and we always need to keep in mind that property can be replaced, but lives can't.
"But let's not lay blame with circumstances like this because who amongst us at some stage or another has not remembered to put that handbrake on?"
The woman's death comes after several other fatal accidents involving cars outside homes since the start of the year.
An aged care worker was killed in a Fairview Park driveway three weeks ago, days after an elderly man died when he drove into a backyard swimming pool.
A man was crushed underneath a car he was working on in his backyard at Sellicks Beach on Wednesday.
Link copiedShareShare articleA man who attacked and stabbed his father-in-law was angry over a child support claim, the Adelaide District Court heard.
Antony Hackett, 40, went to see his wife's stepfather, Bill Ninnes, last August armed with a fishing knife.
The court heard the victim was stabbed in the face and arm and punched repeatedly.
It was told Hackett then fled and went to his home at Wynn Vale, where he told his wife and her friend "I've stabbed Bill, I'm an idiot" and re-enacted the attack.
The court heard Hackett grabbed a bread knife from the kitchen and ran down the street as his wife's friend telephoned for police.
He allegedly tried to car-jack a woman who had her teenage daughter with her in the vehicle.
The court heard police arrived at the scene and it took four officers wrestling with Hackett and using capsicum spray to subdue and arrest him.
Hackett pleaded guilty to an aggravated charge of causing serious harm with intent and a charge of attempted aggravated robbery.
Prosecutor Rasha Dietrich said Hackett's stepchildren had been under the victim's legal care because they were scared of Hackett's violent nature and Hackett and his wife had separated because of violence.
The court was told Mr Ninnes and his wife had applied for child support payments for the children, which triggered Hackett's rage.
"We submit that the motivation behind this attack was due to the dispute over his children who came to remain in the care of Irene and Bill Ninnes since 2011," the prosecution said.
"The children chose to do so, indicating a fear of the accused.
"The Crown submits that the attack in respect to Mr Ninnes was premeditated. The accused took a knife. His motivation was due to a dispute of welfare payments involving his wife's children and he was prepared then to return home, obtain a further knife and set upon strangers whilst armed in an attempt to car-jack them."
The prosecution told the court it had been a brutal and callous attack which left Mr Ninnes seriously disfigured and needing ongoing medical treatment.
"The second lot of offending involving [the attempted car-jacking] would have undoubtedly been terrifying for the two women involved. In relation to these charges both personal and general deterrence are paramount considerations," the court was told.
Mr Ninnes read his victim impact statement to the court, telling Hackett his actions had caused him ongoing pain and stress and he now struggled to sleep.
He asked the court to ensure Hackett could never inflict such violence on anyone else.
"You'll never rehabilitate, it's not in your DNA, however you should never be allowed to do what you did to me to any other human being. Let's hope you are sentenced properly."
Hackett's lawyer Sarah Grimwade said her client had been psychologically disturbed at the time and needed a significant period on parole to allow rehabilitation.
"Mr Hackett's psychological problems had become increasingly worse over that few-month period before the offending. Perhaps most significantly however was his cessation of the medication quite suddenly some days prior," she said.
"On the morning of the offending he consumed large amounts of alcohol and codeine, which only compounded the problem. That resulted in extremely serious, violent behaviour and he doesn't shy away from that. He accepts his behaviour was wrong, he accepts that it went too far.
"His intention when he got out of the vehicle was to talk to him (Mr Ninnes). He accepts that it got completely out of control."
Ms Grimwade argued it would be in the interests of Hackett's family, and his daughters in particular, that he be released into the community as soon as possible to allow the rehabilitation required.
The court heard Hackett's children and his estranged wife's other children now also were in Mr and Mrs Ninnes's care.
Hackett was remanded in custody and will be sentenced later in the month.
