A Belgium Caterpillar dealer has disassembled a massive 193-tonne 994D wheel loader into thousands of pieces
reworked them all and then reassembled the whole machine with new or refreshed parts
the biggest wheel loader in the Caterpillar range
has worked in the Belgian quarry Carrieres d’Antoing
clocking up a respectable 48,000 hours of heavy duty when the need for a bit of rejuvenation was identified
The machine was transported to the Bergerat Monnoyeur workshop in Overijse where eight technicians set about the task rebuilding it
with a width of 5.5 meters and height of 6.5 meters was disassembled
the original steering wheel was replaced by joysticks and it received a new engine
The work took three months and more than 5,000 hours to finish
The cost of a rebuild is significantly lower than buying new
roughly 55 to 70 per cent of the price of a new model and extends the life of the machine for another 15,000-20,000 hours making the rebuild an attractive option in the current economic conditions
