There was a double celebration today in Saudi Arabia with a second consecutive Dakar Rally double podium for Monster Energy Honda HRC as Tosha Schareina and Adrien Van Beveren took second and third place finishes at the 47th edition of the world famous motorsport event
7,453 kilometres came down to one exciting final swan song in Saudi Arabia with stage 12 providing a mass start spectacle in the desert reminiscent of the original Senegalese Lac Rose tradition when competitors battled together to the finish line. Today’s action on stage 12 closed the curtain on what has been an epic two weeks of rally-raid across the Arabian Peninsula
On only his fourth Dakar and having never finished in the top ten before
Tosha Schareina put in a brilliant performance throughout the 13 days of racing to take a fantastic second place finish as he pushed this year’s winner
right to the very end where just 8’50” separated them after 53 hours of competition. After last year’s Dakar when Schareina crashed out on the first stage resulting in a wrist fracture
it was an amazing turnaround for the young Spaniard. With a point to prove
this year’s stage 11 victor remained calm and collected following his masterclass in the huge dunes yesterday where he took a stunning seven minutes out of Sanders
proving that he could soak up the pressure when he needed to. Having watched his idols race in the most famous rally in the world when he was younger
Schareina was able to fulfil his dream of not only competing against them but stepping onto the podium as the highest placed finisher for Monster Energy Honda HRC
Adrien Van Beveren took back-to-back third place podium finishes as the experienced Frenchman also notched up his sixth Dakar Rally career stage victory. Getting into his rhythm in the second week
the 2024 World Rally-Raid Championship runner-up managed to keep Luciano Benavides behind him so that he could celebrate with teammate Tosha Schareina on the podium. On a mission right until the very end during the 54 minute sprint across the dunes
the sand maestro finished the final stage as the top Rally GP rider
just two seconds shy of eventual stage winner
After returning from a tibia plateau fracture after a crash at the 2024 season ending Rallye Du Maroc
the 2020 and 2024 Dakar champion Ricky Brabec was happy with his performance during the Rally during which he added another stage win to the ten he has already achieved so far
Although the American’s original aim was back-to-back Dakar Rally titles
his fifth place finish and stage six win was a sensational performance considering he’d not got back behind the bars of his Honda CRF450 RALLY until November
Brabec crossed the finish line in unison with another rider returning from injury
who last competed in a World Rally-Raid Championship round back in June at the Desafío Ruta 40
his sixth place position overall didn’t reflect on how he’d kept the pace regularly with the front runners and although slightly frustrated with his performance
he’s already looking forward to getting himself back stronger for the upcoming rounds this season
As the culmination of two weeks of rallying across Saudi Arabia’s immense landscapes came to its conclusion
the World Rally-Raid Championship will continue with Abu Dhabi playing host to the Monster Energy Honda HRC riders in just over a month’s time

It was a day of mixed emotions for Monster Energy Honda HRC on stage eight of this year’s Dakar Rally
following success for Adrien Van Beveren and Tosha Schareina who rode well to hold down their overall podium positions
however Dakar Legend and teammate Pablo Quintanilla was unfortunately forced to withdraw
Stage eight held a very long day for the riders as after a 72km road section from Al Duwadimi
they then made their through 484 kilometres against the clock before another 178km on the road leading to the capital city of Saudi Arabia
Second placed Tosha Schareina has brilliantly ridden a solid and steady rally so far as he continues to shave off time to overall leader Daniel Sanders each day. Setting off just behind Sanders and Rally 2 rider Edgar Canet
he would be one to watch at the start of the stage as he knew that not only would he have to get past them
but he’d then need to soak up as much of the pressure of being out front as he fought hard to take as much bonus time as he could
Schareina rose to the task strongly on the mainly dirt track route and hauled in 4’22” of bonuses to finish third
just 2’14” off the leading time set by Luciano Benavides. After nearly 45 hours of racing
the Spaniard continues to defend his runner up place overall and today gained three and a half minutes on Sanders
with eleven minutes now separating them in the overall standings
It was Dakar heartbreak though for Pablo Quintanilla as fresh from his third place finish yesterday he got caught out by an edge on an intersection
unable to get on the brakes in time to avoid it. This threw him off his bike to hit the ground hard leaving him with a concussion and a battered and bruised body
obviously then unable to continue on his 13th attempt at the world’s toughest rally-raid. It was a sad end to his Dakar journey as he’d been consistent throughout the nine days and was seventh in the overall standings when he set off this morning
Adrien Van Beveren struggled with the navigation early on
an error costing him some vital minutes but that was going to pale into insignificance when he came across Quintanilla. The famous Dakar camaraderie shone through as with Luciano Benavides they both stopped for 30 minutes to assist his stricken teammate and although it could have upset his rhythm
the Frenchman was unfazed and got back on the pace quickly. With the stationary time recredited he ended the day just 2’08” off Benavides as he continues to turn around his Dakar Rally charge after some problems during his first week in Saudi Arabia. He continues to cement his final podium position overall with nine minutes in hand over Benavides behind him in fourth
Ricky Brabec powered through the time checks on his Honda CRF450 RALLY to head the stage standings for most of the day as he followed the tracks made by the riders ahead. Although he faded slightly later on he was only 4’21” off the quickest time of day so keeps his current position of fifth overall just eight seconds behind Benavides
Skyler Howes scraped in under the five minute mark as the Monster Energy Honda HRC freight train swept up positions two through to five on today’s stage. The American rider luckily had no lasting effects from his crash yesterday and although he had a small off this morning
it was a much brighter stage for him with an enjoyable ride through the dunes towards the finish line
With a brief overnight stop in the capital city of Riyadh
tomorrow’s stage nine will see the riders on a slightly shorter 357km against the clock where the organisers have made sure most of it will be on fast tracks meaning this will be a day to really push and gain precious time overall as the monstrous dunes of the Empty Quarter looms on the horizon

On the longest day of the Desafío Ruta rally it was Adrien Van Beveren that took the spoils on a nail-biting stage two as he also took the lead in the overall standings.
As the action got going again after the refuelling stop, Van Beveren had one thing in his sights and that was to rack up his fourteenth World Rally-Raid Championship stage win and he sailed to the finish of the 423 km special with just 27 seconds seconds separating him and second placed Skyler Howes.
The American rider had struggled the past two days with the super slippery conditions, but today put in a stellar ride in the closing kilometres, the desert terrain propelling him from sixth to second quickest and also made time up in the overall standings to sit in fifth.
Also enjoying the changes in terrain, Pablo Quintanilla had plenty of positives to take from his performance on the second stage running most of the day in third, but a late speeding penalty dropped him to eighth.
With Ricky Brabec and Tosha Schareina having the tricky task of opening the stage due to their 1-2 finish yesterday, they also kept in touching distance of Van Beveren. A fourth place for Schareina leaves him just 10 seconds behind the Frenchman and Brabec is a further two minutes back as the Honda riders keep a firm grip on the overall podium.
With the Monster Energy Honda Team now based at the next bivouac at the Circuito San Juan Villicum, they will rest up before tomorrow’s stage three. At the halfway point of the rally they’ll head out on a northern loop from San Juan where a total 478km of riding will feature a mixture of gravel, chott and sand.
A brilliant day of rallying from Monster Energy Honda Team’s Tosha Schareina saw him equal the all-time record of ten World Rally-Raid Championship stage wins in a season as Honda also rounded out 2024 with the FIM Manufacturers’ title.
However, the Spaniard had shown his resilience and jumped to the top of the timesheets midway through the stage today from his fifth place starting position. A see-saw battle with fellow countryman Lorenzo Santolino went right to the line with Schareina taking the stage win by just over a minute to place him second on the rally, just 11 minutes behind the overall victor, Daniel Sanders.
Having great pace and flow on his Honda CRF450 RALLY, it was a better day for Adrien Van Beveren who took the stage podium in third, just 1’39” back from his teammate.
With Sanders not taking part in the World Rally-Raid Championship, Schareina added the Rallye Du Maroc victory to his Rally-Raid Portugal one earlier this year as Adrien Van Beveren made it a Monster Energy Honda Team one-two in the official W2RC overall standings.
The Frenchman took the runner up spot in the FIM riders’ championship while in his first full season in Monster Energy Honda Team colours, Schareina clinched the final spot on the podium in what has been a remarkable season for him following his win in Portugal and his second place in Argentina.
Honda are FIM Manufacturer Champions for a third consecutive year with the team winning three rounds of the 2024 World Rally-Raid Championship including the biggest motorsport event of them all, the Dakar Rally.
The Monster Energy Honda Team will now rest up before preparing for the 2025 season that kicks off with the Dakar Rally on 3rd January in Saudi Arabia.

Frenchman Adrien Van Beveren is the latest reinforcement to the Monster Energy Honda Team
José Ignacio Cornejo and Pablo Quintanilla
It’s official – Adrien Van Beveren is the latest addition to the Monster Energy Honda Team
does not hide his enthusiasm with the arrival of the Frenchman – who joins the North American Ricky Brabec and the Chileans José Ignacio Cornejo and Pablo Quintanilla: “We are very pleased with this announcement and we have already completed together the first tests with the Honda 450 CRF RALLY
There is great harmony in the team and I am sure Adrien will help us to achieve our competitive goals”, he explained
Adrien Van Beveren had a successful motocross career before joining the raid rally racing
he disputed the leadership in several editions
Adrien does not hide his ambition: “I am really happy and excited with this opportunity
I feel proud to become a Honda Racing rider
since HRC is the worldwide competition factory reference
I am sure it will be an incredible experience
To seat a red bike brings me good memories
since I had a Honda when I was 8 years old
it’s great to have Monster Energy onboard – I’ve been riding with them for more than 10 years”.
Monster Energy Honda Team’s Adrien Van Beveren put in a commanding performance across two days of rallying in Saudi Arabia’s Empty Quarter with victory on an enormous stage six
It was a stage that would turn things on its head in this vast area of desert that with 650,000 km2 of dunes is larger than France but giving staggering endless vistas for a spectacular place for the riders to attack. No stranger to sand
Van Beveren used his extensive Le Touquet experience to carve out a narrow lead over teammate Ricky Brabec
getting as far as bivouac F after 513 km of rallying when the clock stopped at 4pm yesterday
On a stage that demanded so much from the riders physically
no phones and a night on the sand in a tent also added to their depleted energy levels
with just 112km across the dunes remaining for Van Beveren
Brabec and José Ignacio Cornejo at 7am today
the Frenchman cemented his position at the top of the timesheets as he clawed back a huge amount of time in the overall standings. Going into the 48h Chrono he had a deficit of nearly twenty minutes and this has now reduced to just over nine as he now starts the second week as one of the favourites for victory
With lower average speeds across the epic dunes
the riders had one goal and that was to get to the end of this 626km stage back at Shubaytah without making any mistakes. It was one thing to keep track of the road book and not fall off
but soft sand would also affect fuel consumption too so conserving it would also add an extra element to the already onerous stage. Pablo Quintanilla fell victim to the latter as he was just ten kilometres short of the first refuelling point when his Honda CRF450 RALLY ground to a halt. Despite managing to get some fuel he finished in twelfth
nearly two hours behind Van Beveren and has now fallen down to eleventh in the overall standings. His shot at a podium has diminished but the Chilean remains optimistic to add to his stage victory tally at this edition
A fan of the whole 48 Hour Chrono experience
it was a solid third place finish for a sleep deprived Ricky Brabec
as it now sees him in the overall lead with just a 51 second gap to Hero Motorsports Team Rally’s Ross Branch as he continues to do battle with the Honda riders at the top of the standings
José Ignacio Cornejo found his flow on the dunes catching up to stage-opener Joan Barreda early on and with roles reversed he drew upon his impressive navigation skills to complete the rest of the stage setting the tracks for the following riders. Although his ninth place finish has dropped him down to fourth overall the Chilean will benefit from a better start position for stage seven in two day’s time
The rider with the most spectacular moustache in the bivouac
just 39 km into yesterday’s proceedings he had to retire from the rally with a mechanical problem
Once riders got to the finish a skeleton crew from the Monster Energy Honda Team were there to receive them before packing up their bikes to drive them to the next stage bivouac at Riyadh over 853 km away
The riders were spared such a long road trip and went to the Saudi Arabian capital by plane where they will reconvene with other team members before a much needed rest day tomorrow
RallyGP Results - Stage 6 Pos
The first stage of the Andalucía Rally brought a lot of direction changes along the 319 kilometres around Seville province
Monster Energy Honda Team rider Adrien Van Beveren was the man of the day with a stage win
No doubt – Frenchman Adrien Van Beveren is the man of the day
This came after official results from the first stage after the prologue (technically special stage 1B)
Very meticulous with the road-book and his navigation
Van Beveren got back into the Gran Dos Hermanas Racecourse bivouac as the stage winner and overall leader
Once again the rain was not enough to minimize the dust during the second day of the Andalucía Rally
This stage was raced on fast gravel roads between fields and some off piste tracks
with a total of 319 kilometres plus 145 of liaison
David Castera from ASO was clear yesterday at the general briefing when he announced a lot of direction changes and in consequence many less visible pistes
This was in fact the major challenge of this journey
so success was the combination of being able to go fast and not to miss any note and way point from the road-book
Today 2020 Dakar winner Ricky Brabec (USA) was the first to leave the bivouac
He was followed by Adrien Van Beveren and Chilean José Ignacio Cornejo
Van Beveren was with a shadow of a doubt the happiest of the trio after long hours of action
rolling always in the top standings and showing here a great performance while navigating the terrain
Tomorrow’s special stage 2 will leave Seville province in the direction of Malaga
with 335 kilometres to race and 313 km of liaison
Fast tracks are expected blessed by a desirable forecast of rain that can minimize the dust columns
Frenchman Adrien Van Beveren is the winner of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge
Frenchman Adrien Van Beveren is the winner of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge
This was the second victory of this rider for the Monster Energy Honda Team
since Adrien also won last year the Andalucia Rally
Chilean José Ignacio Cornejo was fourth overall just two seconds away from the podium and American Ricky Brabec finished in 7th place
Van Beveren gets into second position in the World Rally Raid Championship ranking with 42 points – just four behind the present leader
The fifth and last stage from the rally made the connection between Qasr Al Sarab and Abu Dhabi with a Special Stage of 206 kilometers long added by a liaison of 164 km
José Ignacio Cornejo was today the best rider of the team with a second place (2:12 minutes gap)
while Van Beveren was 5th (3:22 minutes gap) and Ricky Brabec was 6th (4:35 minutes gap)
In the Manufacturers ranking from the World Rally Raid Championship – where the brand is the defending World Champion – Honda is now in second place with 75 points
nine points from the leader and still with many points to conquer in the three races that complete this year’s calendar
Now the championship will be on stand-by until the end of April
The third race of this year’s calendar is a first run – the Mexico Sonora Rally (22-28 April)
Monster Energy Honda Team will keep the focus on the intense preparation for this next race
always thinking ahead of a major goal: the Dakar Rally
