Italian produces brutally long sprint in Bilzen as Merlier and Groenewegen crash at the finish line
getting the better of Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) on the uphill run to the line in Bilzen
Axel Zingle (Cofidis) rounded out the podium in third place on a stage marred by a late crash involving sprinter Olav Kooij (Visma-Lease A Bike) and a fall on the finish line for Tim Merlier (Soudal-QuickStep) and Dylan Groenewegen (Jayco-AlUla)
Milan’s 10th win of the season saw him find the perfect position inside the final kilometre
riding on the wheel of Philipsen’s lead-out man Mathieu van der Poel
who holds the first leader’s jersey of the race
launched the sprint first with Philipsen next in line
Philipsen had the speed to hit the wind and move alongside Milan but wasn’t able to go clear in the final run to the line so Milan held on to win
Further back it was Frenchman Zingle who picked up his 18th podium placing of the season
while further back Groenewegen and Merlier hit the deck hard as they crossed the finish line after a coming together
Milan now leads the race by four seconds from Philipsen
while Axel Heuns (TDT-Unibet) lies in third
The hilly 164km stage 1 at the Renewi Tour took the peloton to the province of Limburg in northeast Belgium
Ascents of the Côte de Hallembaye (three times)
and the Slingerberg (twice) featured as the riders took on two laps of the finishing 60km circuit
which concluded with an uphill run to the finish line
A five-man group consisting of riders from ProTeams made up the break of the day
Jordy Bouts and Axel Huens (TDT-Unibet) joined out in the move by Lars Craps (Flanders-Baloise)
Huens grabbed bonus seconds and the intermediate sprints jersey after proving himself the quickest at the intermediate sprints and the green kilometre sprints
the situation was controlled by the likes of Alpecin-Deceuninck
Soudal-QuickStep and Lidl-Trek in anticipation of a bunch sprint finish
The WorldTour teams kept the break close by
holding the gap at two minutes all day before eventually bringing the quintet back 16km from the finish to set things up for the sprint
Visma’s sprinter Kooij wouldn’t be there
with the Dutchman getting caught in a major crash 15km from the finish
Max Kanter (Astana Qazaqstan) and Nils Eekhoff (DSM-Firmenich PostNL) were also caught in the fall
while Alpecin-Deceuninck had to work hard to bring Philipsen back to the front of the race after he was held up
The final run back to Bilzen saw numerous teams vie for control of the peloton as Ineos Grenadiers
and Bahrain Victorious all leading the way at various points
It was Jayco-AlUla who led the way into the final kilometre
though world champion Van der Poel lurked close behind
The Dutchman duly took it up at the front with 500 metres to go
dragging Milan and Philipsen along with him
It was another perfect lead-out from Van der Poel
getting the jump on Philipsen and holding him off to take the win

Passengers on the train to Bilzen are getting used to it
the automatic announcement has been informing passengers they are arriving at the Austrian ski resort of ‘Fieberbrunn’
who takes the train from Alken to Diepenbeek every day
was able to make a video illustrating the phenomenon
the electronic voice can be heard announcing that the next stops are ‘Diepenbeek
‘It's been happening for several weeks now,’ says Chiara
It sounds like the voice is saying ‘Fieberbroem’
It always triggers a lot of chuckling in our carriage
Fieberbrunn doesn't sound at all like Bilzen.’
So how come the automatically generated announcement is confusing Bilzen with Fieberbrunn
That’s a municipality in the Austrian region of Tyrol that is a popular ski resort
There is no clear connection with Limburg’s Bilzen
‘Every station at home and abroad has a telegraphic code,’ explains Belgian Rail spokesman Bart Crols
because the code of a foreign station was entered instead of the one for Bilzen station
It is not the first time this has happened'
Passengers for Bilzen will have to get off at the ‘Fieberbrunn’ stop for a while
‘The database with the telegraphic codes has been updated
but the data also needs to be updated in each train individually
For practical reasons we do that every time a train comes in for maintenance
So it may take some time before all trains are adapted.’
Club Brugge brushed Belisia Bilzen 6-1 aside in the Croky Cup 1/16th finals
Blauw-Zwart were 3-1 up at the break after a Jutglà brace and Romero goal
and racked up three more in the second half through Nilsson
Nicky Hayen changed his line-up in eight positions compared to Sunday's 2-1 win over Anderlecht
Nordin Jackers was given the nod for the first time this season with Sabbe
Romero and Siquet lined-up as a back four in front of him
Onyedika patrolled the midfield with Vanaken and Nielsen
while Skóraś and Skov Olsen started out wide with Jutglà as centre-forward
Belisia Bilzen ousted second divisionist Lommel from the cup in the previous round and were hoping to stun Club with a first chance after just thirty seconds
but Jackers did well to collecte the dangerous looking cross
Nonetheless it ook Blauw-Zwart fifteen minutes to break the deadlock by Jutglà
which was quickly followed by a seond for the Catalan
then he rolled it in underneath the goalkeeper
Club were in the drivers' seat and saw a good goal by Nielsen chalked off because Sabbe's cross had just crossed the backline
Halfway the first half it was 3-0 after all when Zaid Romero pounced home from close range
Nielsen and Vanaken missed to make it four
before Sam Valcke pulled one back for Belisia when he chested down a good long ball and then smashed it in the far top corner out of reach of Jackers
A header from Spileers and an effort from Jutglà didn't result in a goal so the 3-1 score remained on the bord at half-time
The second half started with a blocked shot by Sabbe
an effort by Nielsen over goal and a goal by Skov Olsen that was disallowed for offside
while Jackers had to parry away a header from Vandecaetsbeek
Davino Verhulst also had to show his prowess on a Skov Olsen shot
Hayen made a triple change: besides Jashari and Nilsson
Bjorn Meijer was also allowed to celebrate his return after months of absence
And those substitutions immediately paid off
A cross from Siquet to Nilsson was first cleared
but immediately afterwards it was a winner
Skóraś released Meijer down the left and his cross was turned in by Nilsson
when Meijer headed Jashari's looping through ball over Verhulst
a free-kick by Siquet rattled the crossbar and Meijer failed to cash in on a fine pass from Jashari
Michał Skóraś had the final say when Meijer found the Poland international in front of goal and he put the ball against the back of the net: 6-1

Thomas Baeken told VRT News that "In this kind of situation it is important that the driver gets out of the car as quickly as possible and gets themself to safety"

‘narrow house’ by brussels-based architect bassam el-okeily is a three-storey building in bilzen, a small city near the eastern border of belgium. the project, which is a collaborative design with architect karla menten
features a dynamic and expressive street facade: a glass-encased layer of space that could be defined as an thin atrium
with two jutting look-out balconies that are skewed in angles and directions
the face of the ‘narrow house’ acts as a public light sculpture by night
sitting on a lot that is just 5.3 meters wide
the dwelling which was built for a couple accommodates a garage and entrance on the ground floor
the second and third level above are completely enclosed in glazing
exposing a white facade with a set of balconies
the lower balcony connects to the the client’s library and reading nook
offering him natural light as well as a sheltered view of the street
which seems to be turned slightly to face the other, juts off the third-level studio
where the woman of the house works as an artist

the rest of the interior draws on clever slicing away of ceiling mass and walls to sufficiently light up the space
the main living space on the ground level is set back further into the lot and features a carved out atrium that allows natural light to wash down the walls from above
small geometric windows and clerestories allow rooms that are not directly linked to the facade to still be bright and well-lit
